However, the data with respect to the role of USF2 in tumor development are conflicting suggesting that it acts either as tumor promoter or suppressor. Here we show that absence of USF2 promotes proliferation and migration. Thereby, we reveal a previously unknown function of USF2 in mitochondrial homeostasis. Mechanistically, we demonstrate that deficiency of USF2 promotes survival by inducing mitophagy in a ROS-sensitive manner by activating both ERK1/2 and AKT. The interfering effects were successfully suppressed by applying the copper chelators bathocuproinedisulfonic acid or tetrathiomolybdate. We conclude that there is a hitherto unknown interrelationship between copper and selenium status, and that copper negatively affects selenoprotein expression and activity most probably via limiting UGA recoding. Fibrosis is a common complication in Crohn's disease (CD) leading to stricture formation in 35-40% of patients, who require surgical interventions in the absence of therapeutic options. Here we assess NOX4 expression in CD patients with inflammatory or stricturing disease and examine whether loss of NOX4 is beneficial in acute and fibrotic intestinal disease. NOX4 was upregulated in inflamed mucosal tissue of CD and ulcerative colitis (UC) patients, in CD ileal strictures, and in **** with intestinal inflammation. Nox4 deficiency in **** promoted pathogen colonization and exacerbated tissue injury in acute bacterial and chemical colitis. In contrast, in two chronic injury models aberrant tissue remodeling and fibrosis-related gene expression did not differ substantially between Nox4-/- **** and wildtype ****, suggesting that Nox4 is dispensable in TGF-β1-driven intestinal fibrogenesis. While animal models do not recapitulate all the hallmarks of CD fibrosis, the tissue-protective role of Nox4 warrants a cautious approach to pharmacological inhibitors.
    To evaluate the efficacy of drugs for patients with central mid-temporal (rolandic) discharges detected by electroencephalogram (EEG).

    This retrospective study enrolled 430 patients with rolandic discharges, who were treated at the Neuroelectrophysiology Center of the Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from February 2015 to February 2018. Patients were divided into three groups according to medication levetiracetam (LEV), oxcarbazepine (OXC) and sodium valproate (VPA). All patients were followed up for at least 2 years, and the seizure frequency, EEG results and side effects of drugs were recorded.

    Rolandic epilepsy (RE) occurred in 398/430 patients. Rolandic discharges were also found in those with febrile seizures, tic disorders, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Thirty-one patients experienced only one seizure and no relapse, while 367 patients experienced more than two seizures (including 364 receiving drug treatment). The failure rate of LEV as initial therapy was significantly higher than those of OXC and VPA. The overall efficacy of OXC was higher than that of LEV. However, none of the three medications could control rolandic discharges. Moreover, the side effects of the three drugs were mild.

  • A wheat germ polysaccharide (WGP-1) was isolated from wheat germ through hot-water (pH = 7.3) extraction and further fractionated by anion-exchange column using DEAE-52 cellulose column and purified by gel-permeation chromatography using Sephacryl S-500 column. WGP-1 was mainly consisted with rhamnose, arabinose, xylose, mannose, galactose and glucose, and linked with 1→, 1 → 2, 1 → 4, 1 → 3 and 1 → 6 glucosidic bands. The present study was designed to evaluate the antioxidant activities of WGP-1 in oleic acid (OA)-induced HepG2 cell model with its related mechanisms. Results showed that WGP-1 remarkably elevated the expression of superoxide dismutase (***), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), and decreased the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in OA-treated cell. WGP-1 was found to promote the expression of PI3K, the phosphorylation of AKT and the translocation of Nrf2, further increased the expression of HO-1 in OA-induced cells. Two ephemerellid mitogenomes shared similar gene organization with 37 typical genes as well as a putative control region. Compared with other reported mitogenomes of mayflies, the unique gene order (I'-CR-Q-M) was found in these two mitogenomes. Although the observed rearrangement pattern is novel within ephemeropteran mitogenomes, it could be explained presumably by the mechanisms of tandem duplication-random loss and recombination. The phylogenetic analyses using both Bayesian inference (BI) and maximum likelihood (ML) methods based on four nucleotide datasets placed three ephemerellid species together. Furthermore, the phylogenetic relationships of the three genera were recovered as ((Ephemerella + Cincticostella) + Torleya).

    Medication errors (MEs) can prolong hospital stay and are a cause of morbidity and mortality. Studies evaluating MEs and its determinants in Indian neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) are limited. Therefore, this study was done to assess the prevalence, characteristics, determinants, and outcomes of MEs in an Indian NICU setting.

    A prospective observational study was conducted over a 1-year period (January-December 2016) among neonates receiving medications in NICU. Systematic random sampling was done, and data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire after obtaining informed consent from the mother. An ME self-reporting system was also established. Data were analyzed using Chi-squared test and Student's t-test. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the determinants of MEs.

    Among 269 babies included in the study, 57% (n = 154) were male babies with mean (standard deviation [SD]) birth weight of 2.59 kg (0.701). About 79% (n = 213/269) of the neonates were appropriate for gestation with occurrence of MEs.

    Upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) is a frequent cause for emergency endoscopy and, in a proportion, requires the application of endotherapy. We aim to evaluate the proportion of variceal and nonvariceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (NVUGIB), the endoscopic findings that were detected, as well as the temporal trends of endoscopic findings over a period of 13 years.

    This is a retrospective study of patients who underwent an esophagogastroduodenoscopy with an indication of UGIB or presented with hematemesis, melena, or both, as well as those who had hematochezia, from January 2004 to December 2016 (13 years).

    A total of 2075 patients were included with a mean age of 56.8 years (range 18-113) and males constituted 67.9%, while 65.9% had at least one comorbidity. Symptoms on presentation included hematemesis (52.5%), melena (31.2%), both hematemesis & melena (15.1%), and hematochezia (1.2%). The majority of UGIB were from a NVUGIB source (80.5%) and a variceal source was found in 13.1%, while no endoscopic findings were found in 6.4% of cases. The most common endoscopic diagnosis was gastroduodenal erosions (23.8%), duodenal ulcers (23.5%), reflux esophagitis (16.0%), esophageal varices (12.1%), and gastric ulcers (10.8%). There was no change in the endoscopic findings over the time period of the study. A third of duodenal ulcers (33.3%) as well as 21.9% of gastric ulcers were actively bleeding at the time of endoscopy, while 3.3% of duodenal ulcers had an adherent clot.

    The role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) remains to be elucidated. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of EBV in the blood and intestinal mucosa of patients with IBD and evaluate the association between EBV positivity and IBD.

    Patients with IBD, hospitalized between January 2015 and April 2018, were enrolled. The EBV-DNA load in blood samples from each subject was analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. EBV-encoded small-RNA 1 (EBER-1) was detected by in-situ hybridization in intestinal mucosa tissue sections of patients with IBD.

Studies evaluating MEs and its determinants in Indian neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) are limited. Therefore, this study was done to assess the prevalence, characteristics, determinants, and outcomes of MEs in an Indian NICU setting. A prospective observational study was conducted over a 1-year period (January-December 2016) among neonates receiving medications in NICU. Systematic random sampling was done, and data were collected using a semi-structured questionnaire after obtaining informed consent from the mother. An ME self-reporting system was also established. Data were analyzed using Chi-squared test and Student's t-test. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the determinants of MEs. Among 269 babies included in the study, 57% (n = 154) were male babies with mean (standard deviation [SD]) birth weight of 2.59 kg (0.701). About 79% (n = 213/269) of the neonates were appropriate for gestation with occurrence of MEs. The positive effects of midazolam as a premedication in pediatric patients are well documented.   • Pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidines represent an important class of heterocyclic compounds well-known for their anticancer activity exerted by the inhibition of eukaryotic protein kinases. Recently, pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidines have become increasingly attractive for their potential antimicrobial properties. Here, we explored the activity of a library of in-house pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidines, targeting human protein kinases, against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and their interaction with ampicillin and kanamycin, representing important classes of clinically used antibiotics. Our results represent a first step towards the potential application of dual active pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine kinase inhibitors in the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections in cancer patients.The present work describes synthesis, characterization, and use of a new dansyl-labelled Ag@SiO2 nanocomposite as an element of a new plasmonic platform to enhance the fluorescence intensity. Keeping in mind that typical surface plasmon resonance (SPR) characteristics of silver nanoparticles coincide well enough with the absorption of dansyl molecules, we used them to build the core of the nanocomposite. Moreover, we utilized 10 nm amino-functionalized silica shell as a separator between silver nanoparticles and the dansyl dye to prevent the dye-to-metal energy transfer. The dansyl group was incorporated into Ag@SiO2 core-shell nanostructures by the reaction of aminopropyltrimethoxysilane with dansyl chloride and we characterized the new dansyl-labelled Ag@SiO2 nanocomposite using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Additionally, water wettability measurements (WWM) were carried out to assess the hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity of the studied surface. We found that the nanocomposite deposited on a semitransparent silver mirror strongly increased the fluorescence intensity of dansyl dye (about 87-fold) compared with the control sample on the glass, proving that the system is a perfect candidate for a sensitive plasmonic platform.GATA transcription factors are found in animals, plants, and fungi. To date, GATA factors in nematodes have been studied almost exclusively in the model system C. elegans and its close relatives. In this study, we use newly available sequences to identify GATA factors across the nematode phylum. We find that most species have fewer than six GATA factors, but some species have 10 or more. Comparisons of gene and protein structure suggest that there were at most two GATA factors at the base of the phylum, which expanded by duplication and modification to result in a core set of four factors. The high degree of structural similarity with the corresponding orthologues in C. elegans suggests that the nematode GATA factors share similar functions in development.Ducks are a natural reservoir of influenza A viruses (IAVs) and can act as a reassortment vessel. Wetlands, such as Hakaluki and Tanguar haor in Bangladesh, have unique ecosystems including domestic duck (Anas platyrhynchos domesticus) rearing, especially household and free-range ducks. A cross-sectional study was, therefore, conducted to explore avian influenza status and its distribution and risk factors in the wetland areas. During the three consecutive winters of 2015-2017, specifically in December of these years, we collected a total of 947 samples including blood, oropharyngeal and cloacal swabs from domestic ducks (free-range duck (n = 312 samples) and household ducks (n = 635 samples) in wetlands. We screened serum samples using a nucleoprotein competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (c-ELISA) to estimate seroprevalence of IAV antibodies and swab samples by real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) to detect IA viral M gene. Cognitive decline is one of the hallmarks of aging and can vary from mild cognitive impairment to dementia to Alzheimer's disease. In addition to some lifestyle interventions, there is room for the use of nutraceuticals/functional foods as pharma-nutritional tools to lessen the burden of cognitive decline before it worsens. We previously reported the promising molecular actions of milk fat globule membranes and krill oil concentrates in a rat model of aging. In this study, we concentrated on the activities on cognition, using an array of validated tests. We also performed lipidomic analyses of plasma, erythrocytes, and different brain areas. We report lower emotional memory (contextual fear conditioning) in aged rats supplemented with concentrates of polar lipids from buttermilk or krill oil at doses that approximate human consumption. No other behavioral parameter was significantly influenced by the supplements, calling for further research to confirm or not the purported salubrious activities of polar lipids, namely those rich in ω3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, on cognitive decline. Quitting smoking is challenging in part because environmental smoking cues can trigger the desire to smoke. Neurobiological responses to smoking cues are often observed in reward-related brain regions such as the caudate and nucleus accumbens (NAc). While reward plays a well-established role in the formation of cue reactivity, whether general reward responsiveness contributes to individual differences in cue-reactivity among chronic smokers is unclear; establishing such link could provide insight into the mechanisms maintaining cue reactivity. The current study explored this relationship by assessing smoking cue reactivity during functional magnetic imaging followed by an out-of-scanner probabilistic reward task (PRT) in 24 nicotine-dependent smokers (14 women). In addition, owing to sex differences in cue reactivity and reward function, this same relationship was examined as a function of sex. Following recent smoking, greater reward responsiveness on the PRT was associated with enhanced left caudate reactivity to smoking cues. No relationship was found in any other striatal subregion. The positive relationship between reward responsiveness and caudate smoking cue reactivity was significant only in male smokers, fitting with the idea that males and females respond to the reinforcing elements of smoking cues differently. These findings are clinically relevant as they show that, following recent smoking, nicotine-dependent individuals who are more cue reactive are also more likely to be responsive to non-drug rewards, which may be useful for making individualized treatment decisions that involve behavioral reward contingencies. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Kratom is a coffee-like plant containing compounds that cause opioid and stimulant effects. The most prevalent bioactive alkaloid of kratom is mitragynine (MG). Opioid effects of MG are apparent (e.g. antinociception and nanomolar affinity for μ, κ and δ opioid receptors), but effects encompassing interactions with additional systems, such as adrenergic and dopaminergic, remain undefined. Given that enhanced adrenergic transmission is a mechanism common to most first-line neuropathic pain medications, we tested the hypothesis that MG reduces chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain through a mechanism involving α-adrenoceptor activation. METHODS Rats were injected once with oxaliplatin (6 mg/kg IP) to induce allodynia and then treated with MG (0, 1, 5, 10 mg/kg IP) for 5-7 days. To investigate receptor mechanisms, a fixed dose of MG (5 mg/kg IP) was injected with yohimbine (5 mg/kg IP, α2-adrenoceptor antagonist), prazosin (5 mg/kg IP, α1-adrenoceptor antagonist), or naltrexone (5 mg/kg IP, opioid antagonist). KEY RESULTS MG (5, 10 mg/kg) dose-dependently reduced mechanical sensitivity in oxaliplatin-injected rats. Anti-allodynic effects of MG were completely inhibited by yohimbine, and significantly reduced by prazosin and naltrexone. MG produced modest hyperlocomotion but only at a dose (30 mg/kg) higher than those required to reduce allodynia. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATION The finding that MG reduced neuropathic pain through a mechanism requiring active α-adrenoceptors indicates that the pharmacological profile of MG includes activation of adrenergic, as well as opioid, systems. GAMs have the potential to increase statistical power and allow for better elucidation of more nuanced and non-linear associations between alcohol consumption and important health outcomes.
    ARA levels were decreased in the brain and liver in the heterozygous group, especially during the growth-maturity period, whereas DHA levels were decreased in the liver only in the old age period, suggesting that there are differences in the synthesis of and demand for ARA and DHA during life. For newborns, and humans with minor alleles with low desaturase activity, direct ARA intake is particularly important during the growth-maturity period, but they may need to be supplemented with DHA in the old age period. Further research is needed to determine the optimal intake and duration of these fatty acids. Cognitive decline is one of the hallmarks of aging and can vary from mild cognitive impairment to dementia to Alzheimer's disease. In addition to some lifestyle interventions, there is room for the use of nutraceuticals/functional foods as pharma-nutritional tools to lessen the burden of cognitive decline before it worsens. We previously reported the promising molecular actions of milk fat globule membranes and krill oil concentrates in a rat model of aging. In this study, we concentrated on the activities on cognition, using an array of validated tests. We also performed lipidomic analyses of plasma, erythrocytes, and different brain areas. We report lower emotional memory (contextual fear conditioning) in aged rats supplemented with concentrates of polar lipids from buttermilk or krill oil at doses that approximate human consumption. No other behavioral parameter was significantly influenced by the supplements, calling for further research to confirm or not the purported salubrious activities of polar lipids, namely those rich in ω3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, on cognitive decline. Quitting smoking is challenging in part because environmental smoking cues can trigger the desire to smoke. Neurobiological responses to smoking cues are often observed in reward-related brain regions such as the caudate and nucleus accumbens (NAc). While reward plays a well-established role in the formation of cue reactivity, whether general reward responsiveness contributes to individual differences in cue-reactivity among chronic smokers is unclear; establishing such link could provide insight into the mechanisms maintaining cue reactivity. The current study explored this relationship by assessing smoking cue reactivity during functional magnetic imaging followed by an out-of-scanner probabilistic reward task (PRT) in 24 nicotine-dependent smokers (14 women). In addition, owing to sex differences in cue reactivity and reward function, this same relationship was examined as a function of sex. Following recent smoking, greater reward responsiveness on the PRT was associated with enhanced left caudate reactivity to smoking cues. No relationship was found in any other striatal subregion. The positive relationship between reward responsiveness and caudate smoking cue reactivity was significant only in male smokers, fitting with the idea that males and females respond to the reinforcing elements of smoking cues differently. These findings are clinically relevant as they show that, following recent smoking, nicotine-dependent individuals who are more cue reactive are also more likely to be responsive to non-drug rewards, which may be useful for making individualized treatment decisions that involve behavioral reward contingencies. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Kratom is a coffee-like plant containing compounds that cause opioid and stimulant effects. The most prevalent bioactive alkaloid of kratom is mitragynine (MG). Opioid effects of MG are apparent (e.g. antinociception and nanomolar affinity for μ, κ and δ opioid receptors), but effects encompassing interactions with additional systems, such as adrenergic and dopaminergic, remain undefined. Given that enhanced adrenergic transmission is a mechanism common to most first-line neuropathic pain medications, we tested the hypothesis that MG reduces chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain through a mechanism involving α-adrenoceptor activation. METHODS Rats were injected once with oxaliplatin (6 mg/kg IP) to induce allodynia and then treated with MG (0, 1, 5, 10 mg/kg IP) for 5-7 days. To investigate receptor mechanisms, a fixed dose of MG (5 mg/kg IP) was injected with yohimbine (5 mg/kg IP, α2-adrenoceptor antagonist), prazosin (5 mg/kg IP, α1-adrenoceptor antagonist), or naltrexone (5 mg/kg IP, opioid antagonist). KEY RESULTS MG (5, 10 mg/kg) dose-dependently reduced mechanical sensitivity in oxaliplatin-injected rats. Anti-allodynic effects of MG were completely inhibited by yohimbine, and significantly reduced by prazosin and naltrexone. MG produced modest hyperlocomotion but only at a dose (30 mg/kg) higher than those required to reduce allodynia. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATION The finding that MG reduced neuropathic pain through a mechanism requiring active α-adrenoceptors indicates that the pharmacological profile of MG includes activation of adrenergic, as well as opioid, systems. We demonstrate how this analytic strategy can guide the development of a regression model that retains maximal information about alcohol consumption. We illustrate these approaches using data from the Russia ARCH (Alcohol Research Collaboration on HIV/AIDS) study to analyze the association between alcohol consumption and biomarker of systemic inflammation, interleukin-6 (IL-6). We provide SAS and R code to implement these methods.   • The current systematic review (SR) was undertaken to summarise the published literature reporting the clinical and economic value of automation for chemotherapy preparation management to include compounding workflow software and robotic compounding systems.

    Literature searches were conducted in MEDLINE, Embase and the Cochrane Library on 16 November 2017 to identify publications investigating chemotherapy compounding workflow software solutions used in a hospital pharmacy for the preparation of chemotherapy.

    5175 publications were screened by title and abstract and 18 of 72 full publications screened were included. Grey literature searching identified an additional seven publications. The SR identified 25 publications relating to commercial technologies for compounding (Robotic compounding systems APOTECAchemo (n=12), CytoCare (n=5) and RIVA (n=1); Workflow software Cato (n=6) and Diana (n=1)). The studies demonstrate that compounding technologies improved accuracy in dose preparations and reduced dose ion of chemotherapy compounding automation solutions may reduce compounding errors and reduce costs; however, this is highly variable depending on the form of automation. In addition, the available evidence is heterogeneous, sparse and inconsistently reported. A key finding from the current SR is a 'call to action' to encourage pharmacists to publish data following implementation of chemotherapy compounding technologies in their hospital, which would allow for evidence-based recommendations on the benefits of chemotherapy compounding technologies.

The aim of this systematic review was to examine the available evidence regarding the characteristics of enquirers and enquiries to PMHS, in order to develop recommendations for service improvement.

    Searches were conducted using Medline, Embase, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Scopus, and Web of Science, on 4 June 2019. Forward and backward citation searches were conducted, and grey literature was searched. Studies were included if they reported any characteristics of enquirers who use PMHS, and/or enquiries received. Study quality was assessed using the Axis tool. A narrative synthesis was conducted, and where appropriate, weighted means (WMs) were calculated. Where possible, outcomes were compared with Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) data for England, to establish whether the profile of helpline users may difffunction of this service. However, our study findings may be limited by a high risk of bias within included studies. Further research could provide a more detailed profile of helpline users (eg, ethnicity, average number of medicines consumed), and we encourage helpline providers to use their enquiry data to conduct local projects to improve hospital services (eg, reducing errors).

    This phase Ib study evaluated the safety, clinical activity, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics (PD) of emactuzumab (anti-colony stimulating factor 1 receptor monoclonal antibody (mAb)) in combination with selicrelumab (agonistic cluster of differentiation 40 mAb) in patients with advanced solid tumors.

    Immunotherapies have revolutionized the treatment of various cancers, but little is known about their symptomatic toxicity. Assessing these symptoms is best accomplished by asking the patients themselves. However, such reports are subjective and may face challenges as bonafide scientific data. Demonstrating the validity of symptom assessment tools, mainly through the reduction of measurement errors, has the potential to improve patient care if these tools are widely adopted. To that end, we present herein the psychometric properties of the Immunotherapy for Early-Phase Trials module of the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI-Immunotherapy EPT) in patients receiving various immunotherapies in early phase trials at a major cancer center.

    One hundred forty-five patients completed the inventory at baseline, with 85 of them also doing so after 9 weeks of treatment. The mean (±SD) age of the patients was 57.0±12.9 years. Also, 56% of the patients were women, 79% identified as white, and 49% had at least some college education.

    The internal consistency reliability of the MDASI-Immunotherapy EPT was excellent, as the Cronbach's alphas for all of its subscales were at least 0.88 (range 0.88-0.95). Known-group validity based on Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status groupings was excellent at 9 weeks after the start of an immunotherapy trial for the MDASI-Immunotherapy EPT severity (effect size, 0.96) and interference (effect size, 0.82) subscales. We found substantial changes in the symptom items difficulty remembering (effect size, -0.85), fever and/or chills (effect size, -0.63), disturbed sleep (effect size, -0.52), diarrhea (effect size, -0.42), and swelling of hands, legs, or feet (effect size, -0.39).

We review recent advances in the fundamental conduction mechanisms, experimental techniques and exemplar applications for the bioelectronics of self-assembling peptides and proteins. Diverse charge transfer processes, such as tunnelling, hopping and coupled transfer, are found in naturally occurring biological systems with peptides and proteins as the predominant building blocks to enable conduction in biology. Both theory and experiments allow detailed investigation of bioelectronic properties in order to design functionalized peptide- and protein-based biomaterials, e.g. to create biocompatible aqueous electrodes. We also highlight the design of bioelectronics devices based on peptides/proteins including field-effect transistors, piezoelectric energy harvesters and optoelectronics.
    To improve therapy outcome of Yttrium-90 selective internal radiation therapy (
    Y SIRT), patient-specific post-therapeutic dosimetry is required. For this purpose, various dosimetric approaches based on different available imaging data have been reported. The aim of this work was to compare post-therapeutic 3D absorbed dose images using Technetium-99m (
    Tc) MAA SPECT/CT, Yttrium-90 (
    Y) bremsstrahlung (BRS) SPECT/CT, and
    Y PET/CT.

    Ten SIRTs of nine patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were investigated. The
    Tc SPECT/CT data, obtained from
    Tc-MAA-based treatment simulation prior to
    Y SIRT, were scaled with the administered
    Y therapy activity. 3D absorbed dose images were generated by dose kernel convolution with scaled
    Tc/
    Y SPECT/CT,
    Y BRS SPECT/CT, and
    Y PET/CT data of each patient. Absorbed dose estimates in tumor and healthy liver tissue obtained using the two SPECT/CT methods were compared against
    Y PET/CT.

    The percentage deviation of tumor absorbed dose estimates from
    Y PET/CT values was on average -2±18% for scaled
    Tc/
    Y SPECT/CT, whereas estimates from
    Y BRS SPECT/CT differed on average by -50±13%. For healthy liver absorbed dose estimates, all three imaging methods revealed comparable values.

    The quantification capabilities of the imaging data influence
    Y SIRT tumor dosimetry, while healthy liver absorbed dose values were comparable for all investigated imaging data. When no

In the present study, we explored the causal involvement of one of the nodes of this fronto-parietal network (the right Supplementary Motor Area, SMA) in the interaction between executive control and conscious perception. Participants performed a dual task in which they responded to a Stroop task while detecting the presence/absence of a near-threshold Gabor stimulus. Concurrently, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) was applied over the right SMA or a control site (vertex; Experiment 1). As a further control, the right Frontal Eye Field (FEF) was stimulated in Experiment 2. Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) tractography was used to isolate the three branches of the superior longitudinal fasciculus (SLF I, II and III), and the frontal aslant tract (FAT), and to explore if TMS effects were related to their micro- and macrostructural characteristics. Results demonstrated reduced perceptual sensitivity on incongruent as compared to congruent Stroop trials. A causal role of the right SMA on the modulation of perceptual sensitivity by executive control was only demonstrated when the microstructure of the right SLF III or the left FAT were taken into account. The volume of the right SLF III was also related to the modulation of response criterion by executive control when the right FEF was stimulated. These results add evidence in favor of shared neural correlates for attention and conscious perception in fronto-parietal regions and highlight the role of white matter in TMS effects.

Ten SIRTs of nine patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) were investigated. The Tc SPECT/CT data, obtained from Tc-MAA-based treatment simulation prior to Y SIRT, were scaled with the administered Y therapy activity. 3D absorbed dose images were generated by dose kernel convolution with scaled Tc/ Y SPECT/CT, Y BRS SPECT/CT, and Y PET/CT data of each patient. These results add evidence in favor of shared neural correlates for attention and conscious perception in fronto-parietal regions and highlight the role of white matter in TMS effects.

    Chromophobe carcinoma of the kidney is a rare pathological entity generally smaller and asymptomatic than other renal cell carcinomas and with a lower risk of metastatic disease. We describe a case of a giant renal chromophobe carcinoma successfully treated by laparoscopy.

CT abdominal scan revealed an enhancing well-defined heterogeneous large mass measuring 17 × 15 cm and originating from the upper pole of the right kidney, with necrotic and solid areas within the lesion. Considering the young age of the patient and the absence of local invasiveness, despite the large size of the lesion, we decided to perform a laparoscopic transperitoneal right nephrectomy. The morphological and immunophenotypic characteristics (CK7+, CD10+, CD117+) confirmed the diagnosis of chromophobe renal cell carcinoma.

    Metastatic breast cancer (mBC) is a heterogenous disease with increasing availability of targeted therapies as well as emerging genomic markers of therapeutic resistance, necessitating timely and accurate molecular characterization of disease. As a minimally invasive test, analysis of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) is well positioned for real-time genomic profiling to guide treatment decisions. Here, we report the results of a prospective testing program established to assess the feasibility of ctDNA analysis to guide clinical management of ****patients.

    Two hundred thirty-four ****patients (median age 54 years) were enrolled between June 2015 and October 2018 at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia. Median follow-up was 15 months (range 1-46). All patient samples at the time of enrolment were analysed in real time for the presence of somatic mutations. Longitudinal plasma testing during the course of patient management was also undertaken in a subset of patients (n = 67, 28.6%), accordcluding 11q13.3 encompassing CCND1. Increasing ctDNA levels were associated with inferior overall survival, whether assessed by ddPCR, targeted sequencing, or LC-WGS. Overall, the ctDNA results changed clinical management in 40 patients including the direct recruitment of 20 patients to clinical trials. Limitations of the study were that it was conducted at a single site and that 31.3% of participants were lost to follow-up.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of pre-emptive dosage reduction of LMWH on anti-Xa levels. MVPA remained low during baseline sessions for all participants and immediately increased with the introduction of activity schedule teaching.     Consistent practice, an agreed clinical practice based on evidence, has been considered as a base for effective provision of quality and safety of care. As a result, patients have an equal quality of care regardless of the organisation or worker. However, despite the international guidelines, pressure ulcer prevention practices vary in long-term older people care.

    To develop, implement and evaluate the impact of renewed, consistent practice for pressure ulcer prevention, in long-term older people care.

    A quasi-experimental intervention study.

    Two long-term older people care facilities chosen with convenience sampling were randomly allocated to intervention or comparison group. Registered and practical nurses, in total 141/112, participated in the study. The renewed consistent practice based on international guidelines for pressure ulcer prevention was developed and implemented using the Operational Model for Evidence-Based Practices (OMEBP). Frequencies and agreement of PU prevention practices in line with international guidelines in the care facilities were measured using the PUPreP instrument.

    In the intervention facility, improvement in line with international guidelines was seen in the frequency of PU prevention practices in risk assessment, nutrition, pressure-relieving devices and documentation. Furthermore, improvement was seen in the intervention facility in all six areas of agreement on practices.

    Trichosporiosis is an opportunistic infection that includes superficial infections, white piedra, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, and invasive trichosporonosis. The effect of antifungal agents against these infections is largely weakened by drug resistance and biofilms-related virulence. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new therapeutic approach developed not only to combat cancerous lesions but also to treat infectious diseases such as fungal infections. However, there are few studies on the antimicrobial mechanism of 5-aminolevulinic acid PDT (ALA-PDT) in treating Trichosporon. In this work, we explored the possibility of combining ALA-PDT with an antifungal agent to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of Trichosporon asahii (T. asahii) in a clinical setting and in vitro.

    The biofilms of T. asahii were constructed by a 96-well plate-based method in vitro. The planktonic and adherent T. asahii were exposed to different concentrations of photosensitizers and different light doses.     Depressive and anxiety disorders are highly comorbid, which has been theorized to be due to an underlying internalizing vulnerability. We aimed to identify groups of participants with differing vulnerabilities by examining the course of internalizing psychopathology up to age 45.

    We used data from 24158 participants (aged 45+) in 23 population-based cross-sectional World Mental Health Surveys. Internalizing disorders were assessed with the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI). We applied latent class growth analysis (LCGA) and investigated the characteristics of identified classes using logistic or linear regression.

    The best-fitting LCGA solution identified eight classes a healthy class (81.9%), three childhood-onset classes with mild (3.7%), moderate (2.0%), or severe (1.1%) internalizing comorbidity, two puberty-onset classes with mild (4.0%) or moderate (1.4%) comorbidity, and two adult-onset classes with mild comorbidity (2.7% and 3.2%). The childhood-onset severe class had particula were concentrated in the 1% of participants with childhood onset and severe comorbidity. Early identification of this group may offer opportunities for preventive interventions.
