There was greater affinity to the wild grapes in Central European cultivars than in Balkan cultivars. Fine arrangement of the structure among cultivated grapevines showed differentiation among Central European and Balkan cultivars. These sensing devices have shown very high sensitivity to redox gases like nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone and ammonia (NH3), which monitoring is indispensable for implementing environmental guidelines. As an antenna system, we propose a dual-padlock configuration with a suitable pulse-matched response, featuring two unbalanced outputs. The proposed antenna system was successfully validated, both by simulations and measurements.A molecular robot is a microorganism-imitating micro robot that is designed from the molecular level and constructed by bottom-up approaches. As with conventional robots, molecular robots consist of three essential robotics elements control of intelligent systems, sensors, and actuators, all integrated into a single micro compartment. Due to recent developments in microfluidic technologies, DNA nanotechnologies, synthetic biology, and molecular engineering, these individual parts have been developed, with the final picture beginning to come together. In this review, we describe recent developments of these sensors, actuators, and intelligence systems that can be applied to liposome-based molecular robots. First, we explain liposome generation for the compartments of molecular robots. Next, we discuss the emergence of robotics functions by using and functionalizing liposomal membranes. Then, we discuss actuators and intelligence via the encapsulation of chemicals into liposomes. Finally, the future vision and the challenges of molecular robots are described.

The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic value of liver surface nodularity (LSN) and sarcopenia from preoperative computed tomography (CT) in patients with resectable metabolic syndrome (MS)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Patients with MS undergoing hepatectomy for HCC between 2006 and 2018 at a single center were retrospectively analyzed. LSN and sarcopenia were assessed on preoperative CT scans, and their association with severe (Clavien-Dindo grade 3-5) postoperative complications was analyzed on multivariate analysis. The influence of LSN and sarcopenia on overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) was assessed.
Overall, 110 patients (92 men [84%], mean 67.7 ± 7.7years of age) were analyzed. Severe postoperative complications occurred in 34/110 (31%) patients. Patients with severe complications had a significantly higher LSN score (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve 0.68 ± 0.05, optimal cut-off > 2.50) and were more frequently sarcopenic (47% va derived from routine preoperative CT seems to help predict severe postoperative complications and stratification of RFS in patients with MS and resectable HCC.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of diode laser irradiation on Enterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) and its lipoteichoic acid (LTA). Ninety-six freshly extracted single-rooted teeth were divided into six groups, n = 8 per group. Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 as laser group (810 nm PILOT™ Diode Laser, 400 μm fiber diameter, continuous mode, 30 s time) with powers at 1.0 W, 1.5 W, 2.0 W, and 2.5 W respectively. Group 5 or positive control group (3 ml of 1% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) irrigation) and group 6 or negative control group (3 ml of normal saline (0.9% NaCl) irrigation). Root canal samples were collected before and after receiving laser irradiation and irrigation solution. Cultivable bacteria were determined by counting the colony (CFU/ml). Evaluation of temperature on the external root surface of teeth was done with K type thermocouple using laser at different powers. Enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) was performed to measure the LTA levels and the correlations between E. faecalis count, LTA levels, and rise in temperature were observed using Pearson's correlation test. E. faecalis LTA was subjected to laser irradiation and its structural damage was examined by thin layer chromatography (TLC). To examine the utility of the novel motor-cognitive dual-task test [Stepping Trail Making Test (S-TMT)], as a predictor of cognitive decline, and compare its predictive performance with single motor or cognitive tests.
This 2-year population-based prospective study included 626 adultsaged ≥70 years from Takashimadaira, Itabashi, Tokyo. The S-TMT measured the time taken to step on 16 numbers in order. Gait speed and TMT-A were assessed with standardized methods as single motor and cognitive tasks, respectively. A decline in the Mini-Mental State Examination score by ≥ 3 points over 2years was defined as a significant cognitive decline.
Over 2years, 97 (15.5%) experienced cognitive decline. After adjusting for confounders, binary logistic regression models showed no significant associations between gait speed, TMT-A time tertiles, and risk of cognitive decline, but participants in the longest tertile of S-TMT time were more likely to develop cognitive decline than those of the shortest tertile (odds ratio 2.14; 95% confidence interval 1.17-3.90). Only the addition of the S-TMT time to the covariates model significantly improved the reclassification indices for predicting cognitive decline (net reclassification improvement 0.31, P < 0.01; integrated discrimination improvement 0.01, P = 0.02).

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) deletion mutations lead to electron transport chain-deficient cells and age-induced cell loss in multiple tissues and mammalian species. Accurate quantitation of somatic mtDNA deletion mutations could serve as an index of age-induced cell loss. Quantitation of mtDNA deletion molecules is confounded by their low abundance in tissue homogenates, the diversity of deletion breakpoints, stochastic accumulation in single cells, and mosaic distribution between cells.

Antiferromagnetic materials can be the suitable functional elements for designing of future spin based electronic devices, circumventing the use of conventional ferromagnetic materials and spin-orbit coupled systems. In the present work first time we put forward the underlying physical mechanism, to the best of our knowledge, to generate polarized spin current through a magnetic material having zero net magnetization. Our proposal is substantiated by considering a 2D geometry which is composed of several concentric 1D rings where neighboring rings are mutually connected with each other. The misalignment of up and down spin bands, which is the primary requirement to have finite spin polarization, is described analytically and then several aspects of spin polarization are studied numerically. Finally, we discuss experimental realization of the proposed magnetic quantum system. Our analysis can be utilized to any other complicated magnetic geometries, and may open up a new platform for future spintronic applications.Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent cause of dementia linked to the accumulation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques-fibrils that impair cognitive functions. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) are emerging as promising tools for the crusade against AD owning to appropriate biocompatibility and facile functionalization that can lead to theranostic agents. Herein, the fabrication of a multimodal (magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fluorescence imaging, and drug carrier) magnetic nanoemulsion (MNE) is reported as an AD theranostic candidate. Initially zinc ferrite MNPs of high saturation magnetization (129 emu g-1) were synthesized through a modified microwave-assisted polyol process. Memantine (a registered AD drug) was labeled with fluorescein (Mem-Flu) and encapsulated with the MNPs in sodium dodecyl sulfate micelles to form the MNE. Small hydrodynamic size (107), high encapsulation (77.5%) and loading efficiencies (86.1%) and sufficient transverse relaxivity (48.7 mM-1 s-1) were achieved through the design while sustained release of Mem-Flu was unveiled by in zero-order, first-order, Higuchi and Korsmeyer-Peppas pharmacokinetic models. Moreover, the MNE acquired fluorescence imaging ability of Aβ1-42 peptide monomers and/or plaques-fibrils via the fluorescein labeling of Memantine. The role of As species is further studied in the presence of Te as n-type dopant in GaAs NWs and Sb as an additional group V element to form GaAsSb NWs. Using As4 enhances the growth of NWs in the axial direction over a wide range of growth parameters and diminishes the tendency of Te and Sb to reduce the NW aspect ratio. By extending the axial growth parameter window, As4 allows growth of GaAsSb NWs with up to 47% in Sb composition. On the other hand, As2 favors sidewall growth which enhances the growth in the radial direction. Thus, the selection of As species is critical for tuning not only the NW dimensions, but also the incorporation mechanisms of dopants and ternary elements. Moreover, the commonly observed dependence of twinning on Te and Sb remains unaffected by the As species. Therefore, this work validates a promising path toward mass production and will make a significant contribution to the future field of wafer-scale CNT electronics.To investigate patient exposure in operating rooms and establish Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs), fifteen different procedures and nearly 4500 surgeries performed between January 2017 and December 2019 at over 150 different private (79% of data) and public (21% of data) French clinics were recorded. Collected information include the used C-arm equipment, exposure parameters (kVp, mAs, Fluoroscopy Time - FT and Air Kerma-Area Product - PKA) and patient Body Mass Index (BMI) whenever available. Multi-centric DRLs were derived as the 75th percentile of the median exposure data collected in more than 10 different hospitals. For the less frequent procedures, DRLs were determined as the 75th percentile of pooled exposure data with a minimum of 4 centres and 100 patients. Patient exposure proved to be significantly different among the centres. Highest DRLs were found for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Endoprosthesis (18 min, 81 Gy cm2), Iliac Angioplasty (6 min, 24 Gy cm2) and Flutter Ablation surgeries (17 min, 14 Gy cm2).

In this review, we summarize the current knowledge on the effects of polyphenols on autophagy, highlighting the conceptual benefits or drawbacks and subtle cell-specific effects of polyphenols for envisioning future therapies employing polyphenols as chemoadjuvants.Little is known about the epidemiological characteristics of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Japan. This is a retrospective observational study of COVID-19 patients; study was conducted from February 1 to May 31, 2020. We used publicly collected data on cases of COVID-19 confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. We described the patient characteristics. The Cox proportional-hazards model was applied to evaluate the association between factors (sex, onset month, age group, city of residence) and mortality, and hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals were estimated. During the study period, 5.7% (1782/31,152) of individuals who underwent PCR testing for COVID-19 showed positive results. Among 244 patients with information on symptoms, the most common symptom was fever (76.6%), followed by cough (44.3%). Of the 1782 patients, 86 patients died. Compared with those aged 0-59 years, higher mortality was observed among those aged 60-69 years (HR 12.02 [3.37-42.93]), 70-79 years (HR 44.62 [15.16-131.30]), 80-89 years (HR 68.38 [22.93-203.89]), and ≥90 years (HR 144.71 [42.55-492.15]). In conclusion, in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, the most common symptom was fever, and older adults had higher mortality among COVID-19 patients.International volunteer tourism is an emerging and sustainable trend of the global tourism industry. In this study, we attempted to provide a clear comprehension of volunteer tourists' mental health increase and pro-social intention formation. A survey method and quantitative approach were used. Our result from the structural analysis showed that hedonic and utilitarian performances, mental health, and volunteer tourism engagement had significant associations and that these relationships contributed to improving pro-social intention. In addition, results from the metric invariance assessment revealed that the volunteer tourism engagement and pro-social intention relation was under the significant influence of problem awareness and ascribed responsibility. Mental health and engagement acted as significant mediators. The comparative importance of volunteer tourism engagement was uncovered. Overall, our results provided a sufficient understanding of volunteer tourists' pro-social decision-making process and behaviors.A large body of literature has shown that the burden of healthcare can push individuals and households into the burden of medical care and income loss. This makes it difficult for rural or low-income households to obtain and use safe and affordable formal credit services. In 2003, China's government implemented a new rural public health insurance, which was called the New Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme (NRCMS). This study provides evidence of the impact of NRCMS on household credit availability using the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) for 2010. The tobit regression approach and mediator model are used. The results show that, as a public health insurance system sustained by the participation of government investment, the NRCMS provides good "collateral" and significantly enhances rural households' formal credit availability level. Furthermore, this positive effect is mainly reflected in the economic effect of NRCMS. Our results are robust to alternative statistical methods. Two-hundred-sixty-seven Polish athletes participated in the diagnostic survey during the Karkonosze Winter Ultramarathon. The Polish version of the Motivation of Marathoner Scale was used. The motivations of ultra-runners were investigated among the following groups of respondents people in a relationship/marriage; singles; people with children vs. childless people; people who run alone and with a partner; people who parted with a partner because of lack of support for running. Research results can be useful for sport managers-e.g., findings show the relative importance of modern sport for singles in the second half of life. Research has also shown how people in relationships and people with children can be realized through demanding long-distance running. We also found that running ultramarathons can pose a threat to a relationship.Pentaminomycins C-E (1-3) were isolated from the culture of the Streptomyces sp. In addition, results from the metric invariance assessment revealed that the volunteer tourism engagement and pro-social intention relation was under the significant influence of problem awareness and ascribed responsibility. Mental health and engagement acted as significant mediators. The comparative importance of volunteer tourism engagement was uncovered. The results show that, as a public health insurance system sustained by the participation of government investment, the NRCMS provides good "collateral" and significantly enhances rural households' formal credit availability level. Furthermore, this positive effect is mainly reflected in the economic effect of NRCMS. Our results are robust to alternative statistical methods. This is a retrospective observational study of COVID-19 patients; study was conducted from February 1 to May 31, 2020. We used publicly collected data on cases of COVID-19 confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. We described the patient characteristics. The Cox proportional-hazards model was applied to evaluate the association between factors (sex, onset month, age group, city of residence) and mortality, and hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals were estimated. During the study period, 5.7% (1782/31,152) of individuals who underwent PCR testing for COVID-19 showed positive results. Among 244 patients with information on symptoms, the most common symptom was fever (76.6%), followed by cough (44.3%). Of the 1782 patients, 86 patients died. Compared with those aged 0-59 years, higher mortality was observed among those aged 60-69 years (HR 12.02 [3.37-42.93]), 70-79 years (HR 44.62 [15.16-131.30]), 80-89 years (HR 68.38 [22.93-203.89]), and ≥90 years (HR 144.71 [42.55-492.15]). In conclusion, in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, the most common symptom was fever, and older adults had higher mortality among COVID-19 patients.International volunteer tourism is an emerging and sustainable trend of the global tourism industry. In this study, we attempted to provide a clear comprehension of volunteer tourists' mental health increase and pro-social intention formation. A survey method and quantitative approach were used. Our result from the structural analysis showed that hedonic and utilitarian performances, mental health, and volunteer tourism engagement had significant associations and that these relationships contributed to improving pro-social intention. In addition, results from the metric invariance assessment revealed that the volunteer tourism engagement and pro-social intention relation was under the significant influence of problem awareness and ascribed responsibility. Mental health and engagement acted as significant mediators. The comparative importance of volunteer tourism engagement was uncovered. Overall, our results provided a sufficient understanding of volunteer tourists' pro-social decision-making process and behaviors.A large body of literature has shown that the burden of healthcare can push individuals and households into the burden of medical care and income loss. This makes it difficult for rural or low-income households to obtain and use safe and affordable formal credit services. In 2003, China's government implemented a new rural public health insurance, which was called the New Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme (NRCMS). This study provides evidence of the impact of NRCMS on household credit availability using the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) for 2010. The tobit regression approach and mediator model are used. The results show that, as a public health insurance system sustained by the participation of government investment, the NRCMS provides good "collateral" and significantly enhances rural households' formal credit availability level. Furthermore, this positive effect is mainly reflected in the economic effect of NRCMS. Our results are robust to alternative statistical methods. Our findings suggest that expanding access, fulfilling the NRCMS mortgage function, and providing more financial services for rural households would have big benefits with regard to easing credit constraints for rural residents.The aim of this study was to investigate how family life and marital status influence the motivations of ultramarathoners. Poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP-1) was inhibited by small interfering RNA (siRNA). Superoxide anion production and DNA damage were analyzed by dihydroethidium (DHE) staining and comet assay. The inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), PARP-1, poly(ADP-ribose) (PAR), and nuclear factor-kappa B p65 (NF-κB p65) expressions were analyzed by RT-PCR or western blotting analysis. NF-κB p65 nuclear translocation was assessed by immunofluorescence. This intratumoral metabolic heterogeneity and the derived metabolic interactions play an instrumental role in cancer progression. Understanding how this heterogeneity occurs may provide promising therapeutic strategies. Here, we review the diverse metabolic profiles of several important cell subpopulations in tumors and their impact on tumor progression and discuss the consequent metabolic interactions as well as the related therapeutic concerns.The amygdala is a key component of the neural circuits mediating the processing and response to emotionally salient stimuli. Amygdala lesions dysregulate social interactions, responses to fearful stimuli, and autonomic functions. In rodents, the basolateral and central nuclei of the amygdala have divergent roles in behavioral control. However, few studies have selectively examined these nuclei in the primate brain. Moreover, the majority of non-human primate studies have employed lesions, which only allow for unidirectional manipulation of amygdala activity. Thus, the effects of amygdala disinhibition on behavior in the primate are unknown. To address this gap, we pharmacologically inhibited by muscimol or disinhibited by bicuculline methiodide the basolateral complex of the amygdala (BLA; lateral, basal, and accessory basal) in nine awake, behaving male rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta). We examined the effects of amygdala manipulation on (1) behavioral responses to taxidermy snakes and social stimuli, (2) food competition and social interaction in dyads, (3) autonomic arousal as measured by cardiovascular response, and (4) prepulse inhibition of the acoustic startle (PPI) response. All modalities were impacted by pharmacological inhibition and/or disinhibition. Amygdala inhibition decreased fear responses to snake stimuli, increased examination of social stimuli, reduced competitive reward-seeking in dominant animals, decreased heart rate, and increased PPI response. Amygdala disinhibition restored fearful response after habituation to snakes, reduced competitive reward-seeking behavior in dominant animals, and lowered heart rate. Indeed, tumor-associated cells types, including tumor cells, cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and immune cells, reprogram their metabolism in many different ways due to diverse genetic backgrounds and complex environmental stimuli. This intratumoral metabolic heterogeneity and the derived metabolic interactions play an instrumental role in cancer progression. Understanding how this heterogeneity occurs may provide promising therapeutic strategies. Here, we review the diverse metabolic profiles of several important cell subpopulations in tumors and their impact on tumor progression and discuss the consequent metabolic interactions as well as the related therapeutic concerns.The amygdala is a key component of the neural circuits mediating the processing and response to emotionally salient stimuli. Amygdala lesions dysregulate social interactions, responses to fearful stimuli, and autonomic functions. In rodents, the basolateral and central nuclei of the amygdala have divergent roles in behavioral control. However, few studies have selectively examined these nuclei in the primate brain. Moreover, the majority of non-human primate studies have employed lesions, which only allow for unidirectional manipulation of amygdala activity. Thus, the effects of amygdala disinhibition on behavior in the primate are unknown. To address this gap, we pharmacologically inhibited by muscimol or disinhibited by bicuculline methiodide the basolateral complex of the amygdala (BLA; lateral, basal, and accessory basal) in nine awake, behaving male rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta). We examined the effects of amygdala manipulation on (1) behavioral responses to taxidermy snakes and social stimuli, (2) food competition and social interaction in dyads, (3) autonomic arousal as measured by cardiovascular response, and (4) prepulse inhibition of the acoustic startle (PPI) response. All modalities were impacted by pharmacological inhibition and/or disinhibition. Amygdala inhibition decreased fear responses to snake stimuli, increased examination of social stimuli, reduced competitive reward-seeking in dominant animals, decreased heart rate, and increased PPI response. Amygdala disinhibition restored fearful response after habituation to snakes, reduced competitive reward-seeking behavior in dominant animals, and lowered heart rate. A Tepary bean lectin fraction (TBLF) has been studied because it exhibits differential cytotoxic and anticancer effects on colon cancer. The present work focuses on the evaluation of the apoptotic mechanism of action on colon cancer cells. Initially, lethal concentrations (LC50) were obtained for the three studied cell lines (HT-29, RKO and SW-480). HT-29 showed the highest LC50, 10 and 100 times higher than that of RKO and SW-480 cells, respectively. We propose lines of improvement, particularly in view of public dissemination, and offer suggestions for further refinement or new protocols. We emphasize the high risks of putting the cart before the horse, i.e., proposing protocols that rely upon indicators and sampling methods that need to be refined, as this could lead to under-evaluation (or less likely over-evaluation) of current welfare problems. Because welfare is a subjective experience, the true representation of an individual's actual welfare status has to be evaluated by using objective assessment tools (that are validated and have a scientific basis) used by well-trained observers.The exposome provides a conceptual model for identifying and characterizing lifetime environmental exposures and resultant health effects. In this study, we applied key exposome concepts to look specifically at the neurodevelopmental pesticide exposome, which focuses on exposures to pesticides that have the potential to cause an adverse neurodevelopmental impact. Using household dust samples from a children's agricultural cohort located in the Yakima Valley of Washington state, we identified 87 individual pesticides using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. A total of 47 of these have evidence of neurotoxicity included in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (re)registration materials. We used a mixed effects model to model trends in pesticide exposure. Over the two study years (2005 and 2011), we demonstrate a significant decrease in the neurodevelopmental pesticide exposome across the cohort, but particularly among farmworker households. Additional analysis with a non-parametric binomial analysis that weighted the levels of potentially neurotoxic pesticides detected in household dust by their reference doses revealed that the decrease in potentially neurotoxic pesticides was largely a result of decreases in some of the most potent neurotoxicants. PG is primarily produced from wild strains of Chryseobacterium proteolyticum and the low enzyme production yield restricts large-scale industrial applications. In this context, by evaluating different cleavage site insertions between the pro-region and mature domain of PG as well as different linkers flanking the cleavage site, an E. coli expression and purification protocol has been developed to produce active recombinant PG. To simplify the production workflow, we developed a sequential dual expression system. More than 15 mg of pure and active PG was obtained from 1 L of shaking-flask bacteria culture by one-step nickel affinity chromatography purification. The enzymatic characteristics of the recombinant PG protein were similar to those of native PG. For the deamidation effect of recombinant PG, the deamidation degree (DD) of gliadin reached up to 67% and the solubility increased 84-fold. Thus, this study provides a practical approach to mass producing active PG proteins and investigates its potential applications on food proteins.
The accurate preoperative identification of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) is challenging due to the rarity of tumor and variable cytologic appearance. The Asian experience with diagnosing ****by fine-needle aspiration (FNA) was scarcely reported.
Cases of ****with available FNA slides were enrolled from 13 hospitals representing 8 Asia-Pacific countries. Clinicopathological information, including sample preparation technique, staining method, original cytologic diagnosis and review diagnosis were collected.
Of a total of 145 ****cases retrospectively recruited, 99 (68.3%) were initially interpreted as ****suspicious for MTC (S-MTC). The distribution of original FNA diagnostic categories was not associated with the staining method or sample preparation technique. The staining methods used were Papanicolaou, hematoxylin-eosin and Romanowsky stains. Liquid-based cytology (LBC) was used only in three countries. After reviewing all cases, the diagnostic rate of ****S-****increased to 91.7% (133/145). Cason of constitutive cytomorphologic features is needed for each cytopreparatory method, which may result in a lower threshold to initiate further workup for MTC.

Higher educational attainment attenuated the negative impact of WMH burden on memory (β=-0.03; 99% CI -0.071, -0.002) and language decline (β=-0.024; 99% CI- 0.044, -0.004), as well as the impact of cortical thinning on level of language performance for Whites, but not for Blacks or Hispanics.

This report describes the opportunities and challenges of investigating RT together with MTAs in preclinical testing for immunotherapy, brain tumors, and sarcomas in pediatric oncology. We discuss the need for improving the collaboration between radiation oncologists, biologists, and physicists to improve the reliability, reproducibility, and translational potential of RT-based preclinical research. Current translational clinical trials using RT and MTAs for immunotherapy, brain tumors, and sarcomas are described. The technologic advances in experimental RT, availability of novel experimental tumor models, advances in immunology and tumor biology, and the discovery of novel MTAs together hold considerable promise for good quality preclinical and clinical multimodality research to improve the current rates of survival and toxicity in children afflicted with cancer.

The ABA model is an experimental paradigm in which rodents under a restricted feeding schedule and with free access to an activity wheel show signs that parallel those of anorexia nervosa in humans.
