Different plant architectures provide natural beauty. Weeping ornamental plants are aesthetically appealing to people. The regulatory mechanism controlling the weeping trait is poorly understood in crape myrtle. To investigate the weeping trait mechanism, transcriptional profiling of different organs in weeping and upright crape myrtle was performed based on phenotype. Phenotypic and histological analyses demonstrated that endodermal cells were absent, and that new shoot phenotypes could be rescued by the GA3 treatment of weeping plants. The transcriptional analysis and coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) of differentially expressed genes indicated that GA synthesis and signal transduction pathways play a role in weeping traits. When the expression level of a negative element of GA signaling, LfiGRAS1, was reduced by virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS), new branches grew in infected plants in a negatively geotropic manner. An integrated analysis implied that GA had a strong influence on weeping crape myrtle by interacting with other factors. This study helps to elucidate the mechanism governing the weeping trait and can improve the efficiency of breeding in Lagerstroemia. © The Author(s) 2020.Red bayberry (Morella rubra) is an evergreen fruit tree found in southern China whose whole-genome sequence has recently been published. We updated the linkage map of the species by adding 118 SSR markers and the female-specific marker MrFT2_BD-SEX. The integrated map included eight linkage groups and spanned 491 cM. Eleven sex-associated markers were identified, six of which were located in linkage group 8, in agreement with the previously reported location of the sex-determining region. The MrFT2_BD-SEX marker was genotyped in 203 cultivated accessions. Among the females of the accessions, we found two female-specific alleles, designated W-b (151 bp) and W-d (129 bp). We previously found that 'Dongkui', a female cultivar, could produce viable pollen (we refer to such plants 'Dongkui-male') and serve as the paternal parent in crosses. The genotypes of the MrFT2_BD-SEX marker were W-b/Z in 'Biqi' and W-d/Z in 'Dongkui-male'. The progeny of a cross between these parents produced a 31 female (W-) to male (ZZ) ratio and the expected 1111 ratio of W-b/W-d W-b/Z W-d/Z Z/Z. In addition, the flowering and fruiting phenotypes of all the F1 progeny fit their genotypes. Our results confirm the existence of ZW sex determination and show that the female phenotype is controlled by a single dominant locus (W) in a small genomic region (59 kb and less than 3.3 cM). Furthermore, we have produced a homozygous "super female" (WW) that should produce all-female offspring in the F2 generation, providing a foundation for commercial use and presenting great potential for use in modern breeding programs. © The Author(s) 2020.Plants release large amounts of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in response to attackers. Several VOCs can serve as volatile signals to elicit defense responses in undamaged tissues and neighboring plants, but many questions about the ecological functions of VOCs remain unanswered. Tea plants are impacted by two harmful invaders, the piercing herbivore Empoasca (Matsumurasca) onukii Matsuda and the pathogen Colletotrichum fructicola. To determine the VOC signals in tea, we confirmed CsOPR3 as a marker gene and set up a rapid screening method based on a 1.51 kb CsOPR3 promoter fused with a β-glucuronidase (GUS) reporter construct (OPR3pGUS) in Arabidopsis. Using this screening system, a terpenoid volatile (E)-nerolidol was identified as a potent signal that elicits plant defenses. The early responses triggered by (E)-nerolidol included the activation of a mitogen-activated protein kinase and WRKY, an H2O2 burst, and the induction of jasmonic acid and abscisic acid signaling. The induced plants accumulated high levels of defense-related chemicals, which possessed broad-spectrum anti-herbivore or anti-pathogen properties, and ultimately triggered resistance against Empoasca onukii and Colletotrichum fructicola in tea. Virtual sections through the fruit revealed that the H2O distribution followed a net pattern in the outer mesocarp and a radial pattern in the inner mesocarp. These patterns align with the disposition of the vascular bundles. D2O uptake through the skin paralleled the acropetal gradient in cell osmotic potential gradient (from less negative to more negative). Cells in the vicinity of a vascular bundle were of more negative osmotic potential than cells more distant from a vascular bundle. OCT revealed net H2O uptake was the result of some cells loosing volume and other cells increasing volume. H2O and D2O partitioning following uptake is non-uniform and related to the spatial heterogeneity in the osmotic potential of mesocarp cells. © The Author(s) 2020.

Purpose Clinical research suggests that transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) at bilateral supraorbital foramen and inferior orbital rim and nose intersections may facilitate rehabilitation after stroke. However, the underlying neurobiological mechanisms of tDCS remain poorly understood, impeding its clinical application. Here, we investigated the effect of tDCS applied after stroke on neural cells.Materials and methods Middle cerebral arterial occlusion (MCAO) reperfusion was induced in rats. Animals with comparable infarcts were randomly divided into MCAO group and MCAO + tDCS group. Recovery of neurological function was assessed behaviorally by modified neurological severity score (mNSS). Ischemic tissue damage verified histologically by TTC and HE staining. Immunohistochemical staining, real-time qPCR, and western blot were applied to determine the changes of neural cells in ischemic brains.Results The results reveal that tDCS treated by multilead brain reflex instrument can promote the recovery of neurological function, remarkably reduce cerebral infarct volume, promote brain tissue rehabilitation, and can effectively inhibit astrocytosis and enhance neuronal survival and synaptic function in ischemic brains.Conculsions Our study suggests that tDCS treated by multilead brain reflex instrument could be prospectively developed into a clinical treatment modality.Objectives Emerging evidence suggests that gut microbiota dysbiosis plays a critical role in chronic kidney disease (CKD). This study reports on the results of a randomized controlled trial to determine how using specific cues to action combined with the provision of a free eye exam might positively influence the rate of diabetic retinopathy screening among individuals with diabetes.Methods Individuals were eligible to participate in this campaign if they had a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes or were prescribed a diabetes drug, were members of the health insurance plan during the intervention period and had no evidence of receiving a retinal eye exam prior to the campaign period. The six-week campaign period started on September 19, 2017 and ended on October 31, 2017. A total of 1,454 individuals with type 2 diabetes were randomly assigned to a control group or to one of The combination of two or more nanoparticles found to be effective strategy to synthesize nanocomposites for better drug delivery and treatment. In the present study, we have combined cobalt (Co), nickel (Ni), niobium (Nb), and iron oxide (Fe2O4) and prepared niobium substituted cobalt-nickel nano-ferrite nanocomposites (Co0.5Ni0.5NbxFe2-xO4 (x ≤ 0.1) by using hydrothermal approach. We have characterized the structure and morphology of nanocomposites by using XRD, EDX, TEM and SEM methodologies. We have examined the impact of nanocomposites (Co0.5Ni0.5NbxFe2-xO4 (x ≤ 0.1) on cancerous cells (human colorectal carcinoma cells, HCT-116) by using MTT assay. We have also checked the impact of nanocomposites on normal and non-cancerous cells (human embryonic kidney cells, HEK-293) to confirm the specificity of their actions. Post- 48 h treatment of Co0.5Ni0.5NbxFe2-xO4 (x ≤ 0.1) led to dose-dependent inhibition of cancer cells growth and proliferation. However, no cytotoxic effect was observed on the normal cells (HEK-293). In addition, DAPI stained nuclear DNA staining analysis demonstrates that the Co0.5Ni0.5NbxFe2-xO4 (x ≤ 0.1) treatment also caused nuclear DNA disintegration which is the marker for programmed cell death. Sarma.The aim of the research was to evaluate real-time PCR (qPCR) as an alternate method for quantitative detection of Brucella abortus strain 544 (S544) in the spleen of **** for potency testing of live B. abortus strain 19 (S19) vaccine. IS711 and eryC gene-based qPCR were optimized for calculating copy number. The copy number was further correlated with live Brucella count in the spleen by standard plate count (SPC) method. The **** were immunized with S19 and challenged with S544 on 30th Day post-immunization. The spleen of **** was collected at 15th, 21st, and 30th days post challenge (DPC) for estimation of S19 and S544 load via SPC as well as qPCR. The noteworthy difference was observed between immunized and unimmunized group by both methods at all time points. The maximum correlation between SPC and qPCR method was observed at 15th DPC in both immunized and unimmunized group. Repeated experiments at 15th DPC gave the parallel significant difference between immunized and unimmunized group by both methods. Thus novel, risk-free qPCR method can be used for the indirect culture-free potency evaluation of S19 vaccine in order to preclude the cultivation of zoonotic Brucella organisms from spleen samples.

RESULTS Stride length (- 15%) and gait velocity (- 19%) were reduced, while stride (+ 7%) and stance time (+ 2%) were increased in patients with HD. However, parameters reflecting gait variability were substantially altered in HD patients (+ 17% stride length CV up to + 41% stride time CV with largest effect size) and showed strong correlations to TMS and TFC (0.416 ≤ rSp ≤ 0.690). Objective gait variability parameters correlated with disease stage based upon TFC. CONCLUSIONS Sensor-based gait variability parameters were identified as clinically most relevant digital biomarker for gait impairment in HD. Altered gait variability represents characteristic irregularity of gait in HD and reflects disease severity.PURPOSE With an aging population, cost containment and improved outcomes will be crucial for a sustainable healthcare ecosystem. Current data demonstrate great variation in payments for procedures and diagnostic workup of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). To help determine the best financial value in BPH care, we sought to analyze the major drivers of total payments in BPH. MATERIALS AND METHODS Commercial and Medicare claims from the Truven Health Analytics Markestscan® database for the Austin, Texas Metropolitan Service Area from 2012 to 2014 were queried for encounters with diagnosis and procedural codes related to BPH. Linear regression was utilized to assess factors related to BPH-related payments. Payments were then compared between surgical patients and patients managed with medication alone. RESULTS Major drivers of total payments in BPH care were operative, namely transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) [$2778, 95% CI ($2385-$3171), p less then 0.001) and photoselective vaporization (PVP) ($3315, 95% CI ($2781-$3849) p less then 0.001). Most office procedures were also associated with significantly higher payments, including cystoscopy [$708, 95% CI ($417-$999), p less then 0.001], uroflometry [$446, 95% CI ($225-668), p less then 0.001], urinalysis [$167, 95% CI ($32-$302), p = 0.02], postvoid residual (PVR) [$245, 95% CI ($83-$407), p less then 0.001], and urodynamics [$1251, 95% CI ($405-2097), p less then 0.001]. Patients who had surgery had lower payments for their medications compared to patients who had no surgery [$120 (IQR $0, $550) vs. $532 (IQR $231, $1852), respectively, p less then 0.001]. CONCLUSION Surgery and office-based procedures are associated with increased payments for BPH treatment. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate factors that influence the (inappropriate) use of sedating medication and physical restraints for patients with dementia in acute care hospitals. RESULTS Stride length (- 15%) and gait velocity (- 19%) were reduced, while stride (+ 7%) and stance time (+ 2%) were increased in patients with HD. However, parameters reflecting gait variability were substantially altered in HD patients (+ 17% stride length CV up to + 41% stride time CV with largest effect size) and showed strong correlations to TMS and TFC (0.416 ≤ rSp ≤ 0.690). Objective gait variability parameters correlated with disease stage based upon TFC. CONCLUSIONS Sensor-based gait variability parameters were identified as clinically most relevant digital biomarker for gait impairment in HD. To help determine the best financial value in BPH care, we sought to analyze the major drivers of total payments in BPH. MATERIALS AND METHODS Commercial and Medicare claims from the Truven Health Analytics Markestscan® database for the Austin, Texas Metropolitan Service Area from 2012 to 2014 were queried for encounters with diagnosis and procedural codes related to BPH. Linear regression was utilized to assess factors related to BPH-related payments. Payments were then compared between surgical patients and patients managed with medication alone. RESULTS Major drivers of total payments in BPH care were operative, namely transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) [$2778, 95% CI ($2385-$3171), p less then 0.001) and photoselective vaporization (PVP) ($3315, 95% CI ($2781-$3849) p less then 0.001). Most office procedures were also associated with significantly higher payments, including cystoscopy [$708, 95% CI ($417-$999), p less then 0.001], uroflometry [$446, 95% CI ($225-668), p less then 0.001], urinalysis [$167, 95% CI ($32-$302), p = 0.02], postvoid residual (PVR) [$245, 95% CI ($83-$407), p less then 0.001], and urodynamics [$1251, 95% CI ($405-2097), p less then 0.001]. Patients who had surgery had lower payments for their medications compared to patients who had no surgery [$120 (IQR $0, $550) vs. $532 (IQR $231, $1852), respectively, p less then 0.001]. CONCLUSION Surgery and office-based procedures are associated with increased payments for BPH treatment. Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT)-ineligible patients undergoing direct thrombectomy tended to have poorer functional outcome as compared with IVT-eligible patients undergoing bridging therapy. To report our experience and management strategies during 10years for 137 childhood craniopharyngiomas treated at a single institution.
Medical records of children with craniopharyngioma treated at Children's Cancer Hospital Egypt (CCHE-57357) from July 2007 to December 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Beta-catenin as an immunohistochemical marker was assessed also in available specimens.
Our registry included 137 patients. Headache (n = 122), visual failure (n = 118), and hypothyroidism(n = 78) were the most common findings on presentation. Three management protocols were identified; 65 patients were primarily followed up after surgery, 71 patients had radiotherapy after surgery, and one patient underwent surgery for Ommaya insertion with intracystic interferon injection. Overall, gross total resection/near total resection was achieved in 48 cases (35.04%), subtotal resection was achieved in 58 patients (42.33%), 29 (21.16%) had biopsy and Ommaya reservoir, and two patients with calcified lesions hay of life and the best tumor control rates. Beta-catenin mutations more than 5% are associated with statistically trending aggressive clinical behavior. The CCHE-57357 algorithm of individualized management protocol was presented.
To describe a case series of children with thalamic tumors treated at our institution in a 5-year period.
A retrospective and observational study was performed. The records of 15 patients between 2013 and 2018 were analyzed.
From 2013 to 2018, 15 patients were treated at our institution. The male to female index was 1.5, and the median age was 8.9 (IQR 4.75-13). Seven (46%) tumors were left-sided, seven (46%) were right-sided, and one (6%) was bilateral. All patients were symptomatic at the time of treatment. Motor deficit was the most common form of presentation (73%). Gross-total resection was performed in two (13.3%) patients, subtotal resection was performed in two other patients (13.3%), and for the rest of the patients (73.3%), the chosen surgical approach was a stereotactic-guided biopsy. The average of procedures was 3.4, mostly related to the treatment for hydrocephalus. Twelve patients (80%) received treatment for hydrocephalus. Nine patients (75%) were treated with ventriculoperitoneal shunts, and four patients (33%) underwent endoscopic third ventriculostomy.

Ethnopharmacological relevance Homalium zeylanicum (Gardner) Benth. is a medicinal plant traditionally used in controlling diabetes which thus far has been assessed by the authors only to a very limited extent. Purpose To fill the research gap in the literature review, we investigated the antihyperglycemic effects of hydro alcohol fraction of bark of H. zeylanicum (HAHZB) by modulating oxidative stress and inflammation in high-fat diet fed-streptozotocin (HFD/STZ)-induced type-2 diabetic rats. Materials and methods To understand the antioxidant capacity of HAHZB, oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) and cell-based antioxidant protection in erythrocytes (CAP-e) were performed. GC-MS/MS analysis was performed to assess the bioactive components in HAHZB. HFD/STZ-induced diabetic rats were treated orally with HAHZB (300 and 400 mg/kg) for 28 days. After the end of the experiment, marker profiling and histopathological observation of blood and pancreas were examined. The study also highlights interaction betwal markers (Tg 291.26 ± 0.57 pg/mL, BUN 23.79 ± 0.14 mg/dL, and Cr 1.34 ± 0.04 mg/dL) in diabetic rats. Oxidative stress markers of pancreas (MDA 3.65 ± 0.17 nM TBARS /mg protein, *** 3.14 ± 0.28 U/mg protein, CAT 7.88 ± 0.23 U/mg protein, GSH 12.63 ± 0.28 µM/g of tissue) were restored to normal as evidenced by histological architecture of pancreatic islet cells. The increased level of pro-inflammatory cytokines and oxidative DNA damage were significantly restored (TNF-α 54.48 ± 3.19 pg/mL, CRP 440.22 ± 7.86 ng/mL, and 8-OHdG 63.65 ± 1.84 ng/mL) by HAHZB in diabetic rats. In recent years, the medicinal value of S. miltiorrhiza stems and leaves total phenolic acids extract (JF) similar to roots and rhizomes has received increasing attention. Results Overall, 205 IVF cycles that were converted to IUI in 128 patients were analyzed. Mean age was 34.1 ± 4.6 years, mean antral follicle count was 11 ± 5.3 and mean AMH was 1.8 ± 2.9 ng/L. The main causes of infertility were unexplained (41 %) (84/205) and diminished ovarian reserve (35 %) (72/205). Of all the cycles converted to IUI, 53 (26 %) had one mature follicle on trigger day, 56 (27 %) had 2, 56 (27 %) had 3, and 40 (20 %) had 4. The live birth rate (LBR) was 7.3 % (15/205), and the miscarriage rate was 28.6 % (6/21). There were 3 twin pregnancies, but no higher order pregnancies; the MP rate was 14.3 % (3/21). There was no significant difference in the MP rate between patients with 1-2 mature follicles and patients with 3-4 mature follicles (18.2 % vs 10 %, p = 0.99, respectively). Ethnopharmacological relevance Homalium zeylanicum (Gardner) Benth. is a medicinal plant traditionally used in controlling diabetes which thus far has been assessed by the authors only to a very limited extent. Purpose To fill the research gap in the literature review, we investigated the antihyperglycemic effects of hydro alcohol fraction of bark of H. zeylanicum (HAHZB) by modulating oxidative stress and inflammation in high-fat diet fed-streptozotocin (HFD/STZ)-induced type-2 diabetic rats. Materials and methods To understand the antioxidant capacity of HAHZB, oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) and cell-based antioxidant protection in erythrocytes (CAP-e) were performed. GC-MS/MS analysis was performed to assess the bioactive components in HAHZB. HFD/STZ-induced diabetic rats were treated orally with HAHZB (300 and 400 mg/kg) for 28 days. After the end of the experiment, marker profiling and histopathological observation of blood and pancreas were examined. The study also highlights interaction betwal markers (Tg 291.26 ± 0.57 pg/mL, BUN 23.79 ± 0.14 mg/dL, and Cr 1.34 ± 0.04 mg/dL) in diabetic rats. Oxidative stress markers of pancreas (MDA 3.65 ± 0.17 nM TBARS /mg protein, SOD 3.14 ± 0.28 U/mg protein, CAT 7.88 ± 0.23 U/mg protein, GSH 12.63 ± 0.28 µM/g of tissue) were restored to normal as evidenced by histological architecture of pancreatic islet cells. The increased level of pro-inflammatory cytokines and oxidative DNA damage were significantly restored (TNF-α 54.48 ± 3.19 pg/mL, CRP 440.22 ± 7.86 ng/mL, and 8-OHdG 63.65 ± 1.84 ng/mL) by HAHZB in diabetic rats. The increases in blood pressure and cardio-cerebrovascular event morbidity were attenuated in months when central heating was fully provided. The mean of three OBPs, mean of the last two OBPs, and alternative average OBP were calculated. RESULTS The difference between the first and average OBPs changed along with the calendar month, and it was highest in December (5.3/2.1 mmHg) and lowest in July (3.8/2.0 mmHg). The subjects older than 80 years of age displayed the largest discrepancy in the blood pressure control rate according to the first OBP or average OBP (12.1%). During the 3.9-year follow-up, 1055 deaths occurred. The alternative average SBP was associated with both all-cause [hazard ratio 1.07, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.04-1.11] and cardiovascular (hazard ratio 1.17, 95% CI 1.11-1.23) mortalities. The uncontrolled alternative average OBP remained significantly associated with an increasing risk of all-cause (hazard ratio 1.24, 95% CI 1.09-1.40) and cardiovascular (hazard ratio 1.53, 95% CI 1.25-1.86) mortality, but not the average of the last two or mean of three readings. CONCLUSION We observed an obvious discrepancy in the OBP level and OBP control rate according to different AOBP estimations. METHOD Here, we investigated whether the digital pulse propagation index (DPPI), based on the digital pressure pulse wave, DPPI is associated with cardiovascular events, heart failure, and mortality in a large population-based cohort. Between 2001 and 2003, DPPI was measured with a PortaPres noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring device (FinaPres Medical Systems, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) in participants of the Prevention of Renal and Vascular End-stage Disease study, a community-based cohort. We assessed the main determinants of the DPPI and investigated associations of DPPI with cardiovascular events and mortality. RESULTS The study included 5474 individuals. Mean age was 52.3 ± 11.8 years and 50.5% was male. Median baseline DPPI was 5.81 m/s (interquartile range 5.47-6.20). Higher age, mean arterial blood pressure, body height, heart rate, current smoking, and lower HDL cholesterol levels and waist circumference were independent determinants of the DPPI (r = 0.43). After adjustment for heart rate, highlogDPPI was associated with all-cause mortality [hazard ratio 1.67, 95% confidence interval (1.55-1.81) per SD; P less then 0.001], cardiovascular mortality [hazard ratio 1.95 (1.72-2.22); P less then 0.001], and incident heart failure with reduced ejection fraction [hazard ratio 1.81 (1.60-2.06); P less then 0.001]. These associations remained independent upon further adjustment for confounders. Optimal cutoff values for DPPI ranged between 6.1 and 6.3 m/s for all endpoints. After multivariable adjustment, DPPI was no longer associated with coronary artery disease events or cerebrovascular events. RESULTS In all men, multiple logistic regression showed that current cigarette smoking was significantly associated with daytime [prevalence 18.7%, odds ratio (OR) 1.69, 95% confidence interval 1.27-2.25, P = 0.0003] but not night-time (prevalence 27.1%, P = 0.32) ambulatory masked hypertension and associated with evening (prevalence 14.6%, OR 1.81, confidence interval 1.33-2.47, P = 0.0002) but not morning (prevalence 17.6%, P = 0.29) home masked hypertension. The associations were more pronounced for heavy smoking (≥20 cigarettes/day) relative to never smoking for both masked daytime ambulatory (OR 1.97, P = 0.001) and evening home hypertension (OR 2.40, P less then 0.0001) or in patients over 55 years of age (P for interaction in relation to daytime ambulatory masked hypertension = 0.005). In men with clinic normotension (n = 742), the associations were also significant (P less then 0.01), particularly in those with a normal to high-normal clinic BP (n = 619, P less then 0.04). CONCLUSION Cigarette smoking was associated with increased odds of masked daytime ambulatory and evening home hypertension, especially in heavy smoking or older men.

Double-yolk egg% was higher in hybrids than in purebreds. The eggshell colour varied among brown eggshell ER, RM, and HB. The ER showed the lowest shape index. With aging, the yolk to albumen ratio linearly increased in all groups, eggshell% changed in ER, HW, RM (cubic) and in HB (linear). The purebreds showed meat spots% higher than blood spots; HW showed the lowest total inclusion%. In conclusion, according to an egg scoring evaluation (egg weight = medium-large size, yolk to albumen ratio = 0.5, total inclusions = none), HW showed a higher quality than HB and RM, and ER was intermediate. The RM hens showed the highest% of defective eggs, especially for overcrowding at nest, HB showed the lowest. To address this problem, this paper proposes a genetic mutation particle swarm optimization variational mode decomposition (GMPSO-VMD) algorithm and applies it to rolling bearing vibration signal fault feature extraction. Firstly, the minimum envelope entropy is used as the objective function of the GMPSO to find the optimal parameter combination of the VMD algorithm. Then, the optimized VMD algorithm is used to decompose the vibration signal of the rolling bearing and several intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) are obtained. The envelope spectrum analysis of GMPSO-VMD decomposed rolling bearing fault signal IMF1 was carried out. Moreover, the feature frequency of the four fault states of the rolling bearing are extracted accurately. Finally, the GMPSO-VMD algorithm is utilized to analyze the simulation signal and rolling bearing fault vibration signal. Double-yolk egg% was higher in hybrids than in purebreds. The eggshell colour varied among brown eggshell ER, RM, and HB. The ER showed the lowest shape index. With aging, the yolk to albumen ratio linearly increased in all groups, eggshell% changed in ER, HW, RM (cubic) and in HB (linear). The purebreds showed meat spots% higher than blood spots; HW showed the lowest total inclusion%. In conclusion, according to an egg scoring evaluation (egg weight = medium-large size, yolk to albumen ratio = 0.5, total inclusions = none), HW showed a higher quality than HB and RM, and ER was intermediate. The RM hens showed the highest% of defective eggs, especially for overcrowding at nest, HB showed the lowest. Under outdoor conditions the laying behaviour of the purebred hens and the nest management are important factors for the saleable egg rate.The vibration signal of an early rolling bearing is nonstationary and nonlinear, and the fault signal is weak and difficult to extract. To address this problem, this paper proposes a genetic mutation particle swarm optimization variational mode decomposition (GMPSO-VMD) algorithm and applies it to rolling bearing vibration signal fault feature extraction. Firstly, the minimum envelope entropy is used as the objective function of the GMPSO to find the optimal parameter combination of the VMD algorithm. Then, the optimized VMD algorithm is used to decompose the vibration signal of the rolling bearing and several intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) are obtained. The envelope spectrum analysis of GMPSO-VMD decomposed rolling bearing fault signal IMF1 was carried out. Moreover, the feature frequency of the four fault states of the rolling bearing are extracted accurately. Finally, the GMPSO-VMD algorithm is utilized to analyze the simulation signal and rolling bearing fault vibration signal. Further validation of screening tools and developing the training of health care professionals, specific to detecting delirium, is required. Predictors of HL were also evaluated, with the goal of identifying risk factors that might help staff anticipate patient communication challenges. A sample of 162 newly admitted patients, age 70 and older, participated in a hearing/communication assessment that included audiometry and an informal self-report measure about hearing difficulty. Chart review was conducted to assess whether patients with confirmed hearing/communication deficits had been identified as such during the admission or nursing assessments. Results revealed a high prevalence of HL (72.8%) and relatively low sensitivity of routine admission procedures in identifying this communication deficit (14.4% to 43.2%). Age and male gender were found to be predictors of HL. The invisibility of HL poses a challenge to nurses in recognizing when older adult patients are at risk for communication breakdowns. Communication breakdowns associated with HL can potentially impact patients' adherence to treatment plans. The Pearson correlation coefficient, independent t test, and analysis of variance were used to determine relationships among variables. Results showed a significant correlation between burden of care and total score of family functioning. Therefore, it is necessary to take measures to reduce burden of care for caregivers through education and support programs and to improve their family functioning and quality of life. Once the questionnaire was complete, organizational priorities were identified and the AHRQ Toolkit was used to develop next steps. Of the five subsets included in the Toolkit, the organization identified three as priorities (a) development of a health literacy team; (b) improving spoken communication with patients and caregivers; and (c) improving written information given via letters and home instructions. Organizations, nurses, and quality care leaders may find these results useful as they seek to assess organizational literacy and develop improvement plans. For dually eligible persons, the expansion of MLTSS has been made possible through the creation of the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services by the Affordable Care Act to improve communication and coordination between state and federal programs. MLTSS invest heavily into home and community-based services and care coordination to increase the efficiency of their organizations and improve person-centered care. Nurses who engage with this vulnerable population are in a prime position to further innovate this model to improve person and family outcomes. In this paper, we build on established methods to generate new tools for nucleic acid structure determinations. We report on the use of (i) native intrinsic potassium single-wavelength anomalous dispersion methods (K-SAD), (ii) use of anomalous scattering elements integral to the crystallization buffer (extrinsic cobalt and intrinsic potassium ions), (iii) extrinsic bromine and intrinsic phosphorus SAD to solve complex nucleic acid structures. Using the reported methods we solved the structures of (i) Pseudorabies virus (PRV) RNA G-quadruplex and ligand complex, (ii) PRV DNA G-quadruplex, and (iii) an i-motif of human telomeric sequence.

The influence of dietary vitamin D3 (VD3) levels on growth, bone performance, and duodenal type IIb sodium-dependent phosphate cotransporter (NaPi-IIb) genes in broiler chicken were studied. One-day-old male Ross308 broilers (n = 432) were allocated into 6 treatment groups with each group consisting of 6 cage pens. Each treatment group received diet containing different amounts of VD3 (80, 200, 500, 1,250, 3,125, or 7,813 IU per kg of diet) from a day-old to 31 D of age. Dietary available phosphorus and calcium were kept the same across all treatments in each phase. At 14 D, influence of VD3 on BW gain was found in the birds that received VD3 of 3,125 IU/kg and 200 IU/kg (P less then 0.05). Toe ash and tibia ash linearly increased (P less then 0.05) at 14 D with increase in dietary VD3. There was no significant influence of dietary VD3 on tibia breaking strength. In both phases, relative expression of duodenal NaPi-IIb linearly increased (P less then 0.01) with increase in dietary VD3. At 14 D, highest expression of 3.2 folds was observed in birds treated with VD3 at 7,813 IU/kg of feed. At 31 D, birds that received VD3 levels of 3,125 and 7,813 IU/kg of feed showed 2.9 folds higher in NaPi-IIb expression compared with those fed lowest level of VD3 at 80 IU/kg of feed. When dietary calcium and phosphorus were maintained at the standard requirement, increase in dietary VD3 did not improve growth performance. For optimum growth and bone characteristics, dietary inclusion of VD3 at 500 IU/kg was adequate for both starter and grower broiler diets. Vitamin D3 enhanced the expression of NaPi-IIb at higher doses and thus improving the tibia ash content in high VD3 treatment groups. This study reported for the first time an increased in the expression of duodenal NaPi-IIb in 31-day-old broilers in response to high dietary VD3 levels. Many requirements are necessary to meet the European Union rules to export poultry, including the amount of physiological water and water-protein ratio (WPR) in carcasses. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify if strain, nutrition, and age affect the amount of collagen and fat and the WPR in cuts and verify whether the latter meets the international export standards. A total of 3,240 male chicks were housed in a completely randomized design in a 3 × 3 × 5 factorial arrangement, which included 3 nutritional densities (regular, medium, and high), 3 strains (021 Embrapa and 2 commercial strains identified as A and B), and 5 ages. Twelve broilers from each treatment (totaling 540 birds) were slaughtered at 28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 D of age to determine collagen and fat levels and WPR (through the calculation of moisture and protein percentage) in broiler breasts and legs using the near-infrared spectroscopy method. The use of feeds with different nutritional densities presented in this study has no effect on the WPR in the breast and legs of broilers slaughtered between 28 and 56 D of age. However, nutritional density influences liveweight and percentage of fat in the breast and legs. Collagen percentage in the legs decreases with increasing nutritional density. The 021 Embrapa strain cuts present a lower WPR than those of other commercial strains. However, the values found for all strains studied are within the limits of the Europe Union and Brazilian legislations. The liveweight, breast weight, leg weight, and leg fat increases linearly with age. Quite the opposite, water protein ratio, breast fat level, and breast collagen level decrease linearly with age. Leg WPR and leg collagen level are not affected by age. Despite the differences found for strains, nutritional densities and age readers should be aware that these factors may interact with each other depending on the response variable studied. Yeast culture (YC) positively affects the performance of laying hens. The purpose of the present study was to explore the underlying mechanism for the YC-mediated performance improvement. Sixty 67-week-old Hy-Line Brown laying hens were randomly allocated into 2 experimental groups with 5 replicates of 6 birds each. In conclusion, dietary YC supplementation improved the performance of aged laying hens, potentially through the upregulation of intestinal digestive enzyme activities and intestinal health-related gene expression. There is no information regarding the influence of heat stress (HS) on host metabolic profile. In this study, we investigated the effects of different environmental temperatures on oxidative status, hormone levels, HS indicators, and plasma metabolites in broilers. A total of 1,680 yellow-feather broilers (28 D old) were randomly allotted to 4 groups with 6 replicates. The broilers (29-57 D old) were maintained in thermostatic rooms (20°C, 25°C, 28°C, and 30°C) for 28 consecutive days. The results showed that the plasma cortisol and adrenocorticotropic hormone levels and creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase activities gradually increased when the temperature increased from 20°C to 30°C. However, the insulin-like growth factor-І level decreased gradually. Furthermore, heat shock protein 70 expression significantly increased in the liver and breast muscle (P less then 0.01). The influence of dietary vitamin D3 (VD3) levels on growth, bone performance, and duodenal type IIb sodium-dependent phosphate cotransporter (NaPi-IIb) genes in broiler chicken were studied. One-day-old male Ross308 broilers (n = 432) were allocated into 6 treatment groups with each group consisting of 6 cage pens. Each treatment group received diet containing different amounts of VD3 (80, 200, 500, 1,250, 3,125, or 7,813 IU per kg of diet) from a day-old to 31 D of age. Dietary available phosphorus and calcium were kept the same across all treatments in each phase. At 14 D, influence of VD3 on BW gain was found in the birds that received VD3 of 3,125 IU/kg and 200 IU/kg (P less then 0.05). Toe ash and tibia ash linearly increased (P less then 0.05) at 14 D with increase in dietary VD3. There was no significant influence of dietary VD3 on tibia breaking strength. In both phases, relative expression of duodenal NaPi-IIb linearly increased (P less then 0.01) with increase in dietary VD3. At 14 D, highest expression of 3.2 folds was observed in birds treated with VD3 at 7,813 IU/kg of feed. At 31 D, birds that received VD3 levels of 3,125 and 7,813 IU/kg of feed showed 2.9 folds higher in NaPi-IIb expression compared with those fed lowest level of VD3 at 80 IU/kg of feed. When dietary calcium and phosphorus were maintained at the standard requirement, increase in dietary VD3 did not improve growth performance. For optimum growth and bone characteristics, dietary inclusion of VD3 at 500 IU/kg was adequate for both starter and grower broiler diets. Vitamin D3 enhanced the expression of NaPi-IIb at higher doses and thus improving the tibia ash content in high VD3 treatment groups. This study reported for the first time an increased in the expression of duodenal NaPi-IIb in 31-day-old broilers in response to high dietary VD3 levels. Many requirements are necessary to meet the European Union rules to export poultry, including the amount of physiological water and water-protein ratio (WPR) in carcasses. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify if strain, nutrition, and age affect the amount of collagen and fat and the WPR in cuts and verify whether the latter meets the international export standards. A total of 3,240 male chicks were housed in a completely randomized design in a 3 × 3 × 5 factorial arrangement, which included 3 nutritional densities (regular, medium, and high), 3 strains (021 Embrapa and 2 commercial strains identified as A and B), and 5 ages. Twelve broilers from each treatment (totaling 540 birds) were slaughtered at 28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 D of age to determine collagen and fat levels and WPR (through the calculation of moisture and protein percentage) in broiler breasts and legs using the near-infrared spectroscopy method. The use of feeds with different nutritional densities presented in this study has no effect on the WPR in the breast and legs of broilers slaughtered between 28 and 56 D of age. However, nutritional density influences liveweight and percentage of fat in the breast and legs. Collagen percentage in the legs decreases with increasing nutritional density. The 021 Embrapa strain cuts present a lower WPR than those of other commercial strains. However, the values found for all strains studied are within the limits of the Europe Union and Brazilian legislations. The liveweight, breast weight, leg weight, and leg fat increases linearly with age. Quite the opposite, water protein ratio, breast fat level, and breast collagen level decrease linearly with age. Leg WPR and leg collagen level are not affected by age. Despite the differences found for strains, nutritional densities and age readers should be aware that these factors may interact with each other depending on the response variable studied. Yeast culture (YC) positively affects the performance of laying hens. The purpose of the present study was to explore the underlying mechanism for the YC-mediated performance improvement. Sixty 67-week-old Hy-Line Brown laying hens were randomly allocated into 2 experimental groups with 5 replicates of 6 birds each. In this study, we investigated the effects of different environmental temperatures on oxidative status, hormone levels, HS indicators, and plasma metabolites in broilers. A total of 1,680 yellow-feather broilers (28 D old) were randomly allotted to 4 groups with 6 replicates. The broilers (29-57 D old) were maintained in thermostatic rooms (20°C, 25°C, 28°C, and 30°C) for 28 consecutive days. The results showed that the plasma cortisol and adrenocorticotropic hormone levels and creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase activities gradually increased when the temperature increased from 20°C to 30°C. However, the insulin-like growth factor-І level decreased gradually. Furthermore, heat shock protein 70 expression significantly increased in the liver and breast muscle (P less then 0.01).
