  • Latinos, the largest minority group in the U.S., experience tobacco-related disparities, including limited access to cessation resources. Evidence supports the efficacy of mobile interventions for smoking cessation, which may be greater among Latinos, the highest users of text messaging.

    To describe the methodology of a randomized clinical trial to evaluate the impact of Decídetexto, a culturally appropriate mobile smoking cessation intervention versus standard care on smoking abstinence (cotinine-verified 7-day point prevalence abstinence) at Month 6 among Latino smokers.

    Latino smokers (N=618) will be randomized to one of two conditions 1) Decídetexto or 2) standard of care. Decídetexto is a mobile smoking cessation intervention (available in English and Spanish) that incorporates three integrated components 1) a tablet-based software that collects smoking-related information to develop an individualized quit plan, 2) a 24-week text messaging counseling program with interactive capabilities, and 3) pharmacotherapy support. Decídetexto follows the Social Cognitive Theory as theoretical framework. Standard of care consists of printed smoking cessation materials along with referral to telephone quitline. Participants in both groups are given access to free pharmacotherapy (nicotine patches or gum) by calling study phone number. Intersections are dangerous locations for pedestrians with mixed traffic. This paper aims to predict potential traffic conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles at signalized intersections. Using detection and tracking techniques in computer vision, pedestrians' and vehicles' features are extracted from video data. An LSTM (Long Short-term Memory) neural network is proposed to predict the pedestrian-vehicle conflicts 2 s ahead. The established model reaches an accuracy of 88.5 % at one signalized intersection. It is further tested at a new intersection, reaching the accuracy of 84.9 %, while the new data merely takes up 30 % of the training data set. This indicates that the proposed model is promising to be implemented at different locations. Moreover, the proposed model can also be applied to develop collision warning systems under the Connected Vehicles' environment.
    Cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) has been advocated as an alternative to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with the added potential to reduce the risk of adjacent level disc degeneration and segmental instability. However, the long-term adverse events of arthroplasty have yet to be fully reported.

Despite the abundance of published guidelines, uncertainty remains with regard to the timing of cholecystectomy in moderate and severe acute pancreatitis (MAP/SAP), and no definitive consensus has been declared. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the published guidelines and subsequent evidence quoted in order to determine the optimal timing for cholecystectomy in this high-risk patient cohort.

    A systematic review of published literature was performed using PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) and AMSTAR (Assessing the methodological quality of systematic reviews) guidelines, and included a search of three online electronic databases.

    Eleven guidelines were included. Only 4 (36%) of guidelines specified an actual time frame for surgical intervention. Delaying surgery for a minimum of 6 erformed, and whilst based on low quality evidence, delaying surgery (for 6 weeks) is associated with a reduction in morbidity and mortality rates and should be advocated in MAP/SAP until level 1 evidence becomes available.
    Malformations in the craniocervical junction (CCJ) are rare in the pediatric population but often need surgical treatment. We present a pediatric case series of patients treated with a 2-stage surgical approach with a halo vest and occipitocervical fusion and review complications and outcomes.

    A retrospective analysis of a single-center case series was performed. Pediatric patients affected by congenital craniocervical junction anomalies and treated with a 2-stage approach were included. A halo vest was implanted in the first surgery, and ambulatory progressive reduction was performed. When a favorable anatomic situation was observed, arthrodesis was performed. Safety analysis was undertaken by analyzing the incidence of complications in both procedures. Effectivity analysis was carried out analyzing radiologic and clinical outcome (Goel grade and modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association score). Student t test was used for statistical analysis.

    Sixteen cases were included. Mean age of patients was 9.38 years. Safety analysis showed 2 halo loosenings, 1 pin infection, 2 wound infections, 1 cerebrospinal fluid leak, and 2 delayed broken rods. No major complications were observed. Radiologic analysis showed an improvement in the tip of the odontoid process to the McRae line distance (from-3.26 mm to-6.16 mm), atlantodental interval (from 3.05 mm to 1.88 mm), clival-canal angle (from 134.61° to 144.38°), and cervical kyphosis (from 6.39° to 1.54°). Clinical analysis also showed improvement in mean Goel grade (from 1.75 to 1.44) and modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association score (from 15.12 to 16.41).

    The study population consisted of 164 patients with anterior circulation stroke who underwent pretreatment brain computed tomography angiography and digital subtraction angiography before undergoing thrombectomy. TM was defined as a thrombus shift to a more distal arterial segment observed on digital subtraction angiography than that on computed tomography angiography. Successful and complete recanalization was defined as cerebral infarction perfusion scale scores of 2b-3 and 3, respectively.   • To investigate the factors associated with cesarean section (CS) in Bhutan.

    This was a cross-sectional study, using the retrospective data from the birth registers maintained in comprehensive emergency obstetric care centers for the year 2018. The data were entered in excel 2013 and analyzed using STATA 13. Multiple logistic regression was used to understand the factors associated with CS in Bhutan.

    The rate of CS in Bhutan was 18.7%. The indications for CS were previous CS, fetal distress, prolonged labor, and failed induction. The factors associated with CS were maternal age over 25years, male child, women with smaller number of living children, multiple pregnancy, and gestation over 40weeks. In addition, mothers delivering in Samtse Hospital and Central Regional Referral Hospital had higher odds of CS.

    In Bhutan, CS was commonly performed for mothers with previous CS, fetal distress, and prolonged labor. Increasing maternal age, multiple pregnancy, and postdated pregnancy and those with one child, or none, were more likely to undergo CS.     To investigate the factors associated with cesarean section (CS) in Bhutan. This was a cross-sectional study, using the retrospective data from the birth registers maintained in comprehensive emergency obstetric care centers for the year 2018. The data were entered in excel 2013 and analyzed using STATA 13. Multiple logistic regression was used to understand the factors associated with CS in Bhutan. The rate of CS in Bhutan was 18.7%. The indications for CS were previous CS, fetal distress, prolonged labor, and failed induction. The factors associated with CS were maternal age over 25years, male child, women with smaller number of living children, multiple pregnancy, and gestation over 40weeks. In addition, mothers delivering in Samtse Hospital and Central Regional Referral Hospital had higher odds of CS. In Bhutan, CS was commonly performed for mothers with previous CS, fetal distress, and prolonged labor.   • Phakic intraocular lenses (pIOLs) are a common solution for the surgical correction of high myopia and myopia in thin corneas. Global trends result in increasing rates of patients with high myopia which will result in increased rates of pIOL implantation. Three types of lenses can be distinguished anterior chamber angle-supported, anterior chamber iris-fixated, and posterior chamber phakic IOLs. The efficacy of phakic intraocular lenses is generally very good, but pIOLs have undergone many changes over the years to improve the safety profile and decrease pIOL-related complications such as endothelial cell loss, corneal decompensation and cataract formation. This article describes the efficacy and safety profiles of the most recent pIOLs, as well as suggests gaps of knowledge that are deserve additional research to optimize the results of pIOLs.Contact lens-assisted corneal cross-linking (CACXL) was introduced by Jacob et al. in 2012 for treating thin keratoconic corneas using riboflavin soaked soft contact lens to artificially increase the functional corneal thickness. It gives about 70% stiffening as compared to standard Dresden protocol CXL in less ideal porcine eye studies. Murine eye models that closely mimic thin corneas and show greater cross-linking effect as compared to porcine eyes may be a better model for evaluation of CACXL, however further studies are needed. Care should be taken in selecting the right kind of contact lens. Proper technique should be followed, especially by confirming thinnest functional pachymetry to be above 400 microns intra-operatively before application of UV-A. However, CXL as a standalone procedure does not suffice in rehabilitating the functional vision especially in patients who are unwilling or intolerant towards contact lenses. The concept of "CXL plus" was proposed which incorporates adjunctive use of refractive procedures with CXL in order to overcome the optical inefficiency due to corneal irregularity, decrease the irregular astigmatism, correct the residual refractive error and improve functional visual outcome in keratoconus. Several refractive procedures such as conductive keratoplasty (CK), photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), transepithelial phototherapeutic keratectomy (t-PTK), intrastromal corneal ring segments (ICRS) implantation, phakic intraocular lens (PIOL) implantation and multiple other techniques have been combined with CXL to optimize and enhance the CXL outcome. Current literature suggests that refractive surgery and simultaneous CXL is generally safe and delivers comparable results in terms of visual and refractive outcomes than refractive surgery alone. Several studies have shown that continuous light affects larval development and increases the prevalence of skeletal deformities. Melatonin is a crucial pineal neurohormone that displays daily secretion patterns, stimulates cell proliferation and embryonic development in Atlantic salmon and zebrafish, and improves osseointegration in **** and humans.     We compared the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 IgG/IgM in multiple sclerosis (MS), low-risk, and high-risk populations and explored possible clinical correlates.

    In this cross-sectional study, we recruited MS patients, low-risk (university staff from non-clinical departments), and high-risk individuals (healthcare staff from COVID-19 wards) from 11 May to 15 June 2020. We used lateral flow immunoassay to detect SARS-CoV-2 IgG and IgM. We used t-test, Fisher's exact test, chi square test, or McNemar's test, as appropriate, to evaluate between-group differences.

    We recruited 310 MS patients (42.3 ± 12.4 years; females 67.1%), 862 low-risk individuals (42.9 ± 13.3 years; females 47.8%), and 235 high-risk individuals (39.4 ± 10.9 years; females 54.5%). The prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 IgG/IgM in MS patients (n = 9, 2.9%) was significantly lower than in the high-risk population (n = 25, 10.6%) (
    < 0.001), and similar to the low-risk population (n = 11, 1.3%) (
    = 0.057); these results were also confirmed after random matching by age and sex (111). No significant differences were found in demographic, clinical, treatment, and laboratory features. We show that the spectral tuning range can be adjusted by varying the incidence angle or the lattice period. Melatonin is a crucial pineal neurohormone that displays daily secretion patterns, stimulates cell proliferation and embryonic development in Atlantic salmon and zebrafish, and improves osseointegration in mice and humans. We used lateral flow immunoassay to detect SARS-CoV-2 IgG and IgM. We used t-test, Fisher's exact test, chi square test, or McNemar's test, as appropriate, to evaluate between-group differences. We recruited 310 MS patients (42.3 ± 12.4 years; females 67.1%), 862 low-risk individuals (42.9 ± 13.3 years; females 47.8%), and 235 high-risk individuals (39.4 ± 10.9 years; females 54.5%). Therefore, the appropriateness of this type of treatment is controversial. Brace treatment is one alternative method of treatment for IIS patients. However, long-term studies have not yet verified its effectiveness. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of brace treatment in patients with IIS until skeletal maturity or spinal fusion.

    The medical records of all IIS patients with the referral age of 0-3 years who received brace treatment from June 1986 to November 2013 were reviewed. Those patients with pre-brace Cobb angle > 20° were included and followed up to skeletal maturity or the time of spinal fusion. The Cobb angle was recorded at the time of diagnosis before the initiation of bracing, weaning time, brace discontinuation, and final follow-up. In addition, the maximum in-brace curve correction was measured.

Over the last decade, novel approaches have been used to understand the genomic landscape and the complexity of the molecular biology of pediatric B-ALL, mainly next generation sequencing, offering important insights into new B-ALL subtypes, altered pathways, and therapeutic targets that may lead to improved risk stratification and treatments. Here, we will highlight the up-to-date knowledge of the novel B-ALL subtypes in childhood, with particular emphasis on altered signaling pathways. In addition, we will discuss the targeted therapies that showed promising results for the treatment of the different B-ALL subtypes.Several infectious agents are ascertained causes of cancer, but the burden of cancer mortality attributable to carcinogenic infections in Italy is still unknown. To tackle this issue, we calculated the rate and regional distribution of cancer deaths due to infections sustained by seven pathogens ranked as group 1 carcinogenic agents in humans by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Population attributable fractions related to these agents were applied to annual statistics of cancer deaths coded according to the 10th International Classification of Diseases. The estimated burden of cancer mortality attributable to carcinogenic infections in Italy during the period 2011-2015 was 8.7% of all cancer deaths registered yearly, on average. Approximately 60% of deaths occurred in men, and almost the whole burden was due to four infectious agents (Helicobacter pylori, hepatitis C virus, high-risk human papillomavirus, and hepatitis B virus). However, although cytogenetics and clinical presentations (plasmablastic cytology; extramedullary disease) are major prognostic factors, until recently, all patients received the same treatment whatever their initial risk. No strong evidence allows us to use a personalized treatment according to one cytogenetic abnormality in newly diagnosed myeloma. Retrospective studies showed a benefit of a double autologous transplant in high-risk cytogenetics according to the International Myeloma Working Group definition (t(4;14), t(14;16) or del(17p)). Moreover, this definition has to be updated since other independent abnormalities, namely gain 1q, del(1p32), and trisomies 5 or 21, as well as TP53 mutations, are also prognostic. Another very strong predictive tool is the response to treatment assessed by the evaluation of minimal residual disease (MRD). We are convinced that the time has come to use it to adapt the strategy to a dynamic risk. Nevertheless, we also have to take into account the clinical outcome for one patient, especially adverse events affecting his or her quality of life and his or her preferences for continuous/fixed duration treatment.B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) is a hematologic malignancy that arises from the clonal expansion of transformed B-cell precursors and predominately affects childhood. Even though significant progresses have been made in the treatment of B-ALL, pediatric patients' outcome has to be furtherly increased and alternative targeted treatment strategies are required for younger patients. Over the last decade, novel approaches have been used to understand the genomic landscape and the complexity of the molecular biology of pediatric B-ALL, mainly next generation sequencing, offering important insights into new B-ALL subtypes, altered pathways, and therapeutic targets that may lead to improved risk stratification and treatments. Here, we will highlight the up-to-date knowledge of the novel B-ALL subtypes in childhood, with particular emphasis on altered signaling pathways. In addition, we will discuss the targeted therapies that showed promising results for the treatment of the different B-ALL subtypes.Several infectious agents are ascertained causes of cancer, but the burden of cancer mortality attributable to carcinogenic infections in Italy is still unknown. To tackle this issue, we calculated the rate and regional distribution of cancer deaths due to infections sustained by seven pathogens ranked as group 1 carcinogenic agents in humans by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Population attributable fractions related to these agents were applied to annual statistics of cancer deaths coded according to the 10th International Classification of Diseases. The estimated burden of cancer mortality attributable to carcinogenic infections in Italy during the period 2011-2015 was 8.7% of all cancer deaths registered yearly, on average. Approximately 60% of deaths occurred in men, and almost the whole burden was due to four infectious agents (Helicobacter pylori, hepatitis C virus, high-risk human papillomavirus, and hepatitis B virus). The analysis of regional distribution showed a higher number of infection-related cancer deaths in the northern regions, where the estimates reached 30 (Liguria) and 28 (Friuli Venezia Giulia) deaths per 100,000 inhabitants in 2015. At least fourteen genes so far have been related to ARCI; however, despite genetic heterogeneity, phenotypes associated with mutation of different ARCI genes may overlap, thereby making difficult their clinical and molecular classification. In addition, molecular tests for diagnosis of such an extremely rare heterogeneous inherited disease are not easily available in clinical settings. In the attempt of identifying the genetic cause of the disease in four Italian patients with ARCI, we performed next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis targeting 4811 genes that have been previously linked to human genetic diseases; we focused our analysis on the 13 known ARCI genes comprised in the panel. Nine different variants including three novel small nucleotide changes and two novel large deletions have been identified and validated in the ABCA12, ALOX12B, CYP4F22, and SULT2B1 genes.

  • Six fluorinated PR2(biaryl) phosphines, L n , with R = Ph, Cy and biaryl = C6H4-C6F5, C6F4-C6H5, C6F4-C6F5, have been prepared. Their [AuCl(L n )] complexes and H congeners with PhJohnPhos or CyJohnPhos have been studied in order to examine the interactions that bring the distal aryl close to the Au-Cl bond region. X-ray, DFT structure optimization, QTAIM, and NCI methods allow for some understanding of the forces involved. The "no bond" noncovalent distal-aryl/Au-Cl weak interactions are produced at forced short distances achieved under intramolecular structural ligand pressure. Enhanced vdW distal-aryl/Au interactions at "no bond" distances shorter than the sum of Au and C vdW radii and weaker distal-aryl/Cl interactions at "no bond" distances beyond the sum of Cl and C vdW radii counterbalance the unfavorable structural distortion of the free ligand, providing some extra stability of the molecule on the order of 2-10 kcal mol-1. The F substituents in the distal aryl induce shorter aryl distances to the Au-Cl zone, pointing overall to stronger π-aryl polarization as being mainly responsible for the NCIs with gold.   • Staphylococcus aureus is a major foodborne pathogen and commensal of the skin and mucous membranes of animals and humans. Its virulence relies on the production of a variety of toxins resistant to denaturing conditions. Increasing reports of S. aureus food poisoning and contamination of foods of animal origin elsewhere necessitates the investigation of these foods in Cameroon, to implement safety measures. This cross-sectional study evaluated S. aureus contamination in milk and beef in the Northwest and Southwest Regions of Cameroon, where *** milk is usually not pasteurized before consumption, and beef is the main source of protein. The distribution of antibiotic-resistant isolates and those with enterotoxin-producing potential was also investigated to provide data of public health and food safety benefit. S. aureus was isolated from 39 raw milk and 250 beef samples by standard methods. Confirmation of isolates was by PCR to detect the nuc gene. S. aureus was investigated for classical staphylococcal enterotoxin (SE) genes (sea, seb, sec, sed, and see) by PCR. Their susceptibility to 9 antibiotics was tested by the disk diffusion method. The chi-square test was used to compare the contamination of samples, antibiotic resistance, and the distribution of SE genes. S. aureus was isolated from 11.1% of samples. Contamination was higher in milk (48%) than in beef (5.2%) (P less then 0.001). The sea was the most frequently (90%) harboured gene. A large proportion of isolates (88%) harboured more than one virulence gene. Isolates were generally resistant to erythromycin (82%), vancomycin (80%), tetracycline (76%), and oxacillin (74%). Multidrug resistance (MDR) was common (92%). It is of interest due to a possible prognostic effect in tumors and its role as a target for the antibody-drug conjugate indatuximab ravtansine. Here, we analyzed 17,747 prostate cancers by immunohistochemistry. Membranous and cytoplasmic CD138 staining was separately recorded. In normal prostate glands, CD138 staining was limited to basal cells. In cancers, membranous CD138 positivity was seen in 19.6% and cytoplasmic CD138 staining in 11.2% of 12,851 interpretable cases. A comparison with clinico-pathological features showed that cytoplasmic CD138 staining was more linked to unfavorable tumor features than membranous staining. Cytoplasmic CD138 immunostaining was associated with high tumor stage (p less then 0.0001), high Gleason grade (p less then 0.0001), nodal metastases (p less then 0.0001), positive surgical margin (p less then 0.0001), and biochemical recurrence (p less then 0.0001). This also holds true for both V-ets avian erythroblastosis virus E26 oncogene homolog (ERG) fusion positive and ERG fusion negative tumors although the cytoplasmic CD138 expression was markedly more frequent in ERG positive than in ERG negative tumors (p less then 0.0001). Comparison with 11 previously analyzed chromosomal deletions identified a conspicuous association between cytoplasmic CD138 expression and 8p deletions (p less then 0.0001) suggesting a possible functional interaction of CD138 with one or several 8p genes. Multivariate analysis revealed the cytoplasmic CD138 expression as an independent prognostic parameter in all cancers and in the ERG positive subgroup. In summary, our study indicates the cytoplasmic CD138 expression as a strong and independent predictor of poor prognosis in prostate cancer. Immunohistochemical measurement of CD138 protein may thus-perhaps in combination with other parameters-become clinically useful in the future.Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare but clinically aggressive endocrine malignancy. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) were found to play key roles in tumorigenesis. In the current study, we aimed to investigate the functions and mechanisms of a novel circRNA, circ-CCAC1, in ACC cells. circ-CCAC1 expression levels in ACC tissue specimens and cell lines were evaluated by RT-qPCR. Kaplan-Meier analysis was applied to explore the relationship between circ-CCAC1 and patients' prognosis. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), colony formation, acridine orange/ethidium bromide (AO/EB) double fluorescence staining, and Transwell assays were performed to evaluate the functions of circ-CCAC1 in ACC cells. Bioinformatics analysis and a dual-luciferase reporter assay were utilized to explore the mechanisms of circ-CCAC1. As a result, circ-CCAC1 was overexpressed in ACC tissue samples and cell lines and correlated with poor prognosis. Gain- and loss-of-function tests demonstrated that circ-CCAC1 acted as an oncogene in ACC. What is more, circ-CCAC1 enhanced C22orf46 expression by sponging miR-514a-5p in ACC cells. A rescue assay illustrated that circ-CCAC1 facilitated ACC progression through miR-514a-5p/C22orf46 signaling. To sum up, we identified a novel circRNA, circ-CCAC1, which may be used as a potential therapeutic target for ACC.
    Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most frequent infections in kidney transplant patients (KTPs). This infection is mainly caused by uropathogenic
    (UPEC). Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) was also increasingly identified in UPEC. This study proposed to investigate the frequency of quinolone-resistance plasmid genes and the O-antigen serogroup among UPEC isolated from KTPs and non-KTP with UTI.

    Totally, 114 UPEC isolates from 49 KTPs and 65 non-KTPs patients diagnosed with an UPEC-associated UTI were obtained from June 2019 to December 2019 at three laboratory centers in Isfahan, Iran. The isolates were confirmed through phenotypic and genotypic methods. Moreover, the antimicrobial susceptibility test to nalidixic acid, ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, and ofloxacin was performed using a disk diffusion method. The presence of the

Contamination was higher in milk (48%) than in beef (5.2%) (P less then 0.001). The sea was the most frequently (90%) harboured gene.     Cubitus varus is a complex three-dimensional deformity. Various osteotomies have been introduced to correct this complex deformity. The objective of the present study was to evaluate clinical and functional outcomes of adult cubitus varus deformity treated with translation step-cut osteotomy.

    Seventeen consecutive patients with a mean age of 25 years (range, 19-50 years) who underwent translation step-cut osteotomy were enrolled in this study. Their average follow-up period was 28.2 months. Radiographic measurements preoperatively, 3-month postoperatively, and at the last follow-up were compared. Functional outcomes were assessed using Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH), Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS), and Oppenheim criteria.

This study assessed the prevalence and factors associated with SR-STIs among sexually active men (SAM) in SSA.

    Analysis was done based on the current Demographic and Health Survey of 27 countries in SSA conducted between 2010 and 2018. A total of 130,916 SAM were included in the analysis. The outcome variable was SR-STI. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed with a statistical significance set at p < 0.05.

    On the average, the prevalence of STIs among SAM in SSA was 3.8%, which ranged from 13.5% in Liberia to 0.4% in Niger.Sexually-active men aged 25-34 (AOR = 1.77, CI1.6-1.95) were more likely to report STIs, compared to those aged 45 or more years. Respondents who were working (AOR = 1.24, CI 1.12-1.38) and those who had their first sex at ages below 20 (AOR = 1.20, CI1untry variations. Current findings suggest that STIs intervention priorities must be given across countries with high prevalence. Several socio-demographic factors predicted SR-STIs.     We reported a case of posttraumatic patella osteomyelitis that successive infected with methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) after multiple surgeries. We successfully treated osteomyelitis by one-staged surgery, but the patient present knee stiffness after treatment. Thus Ilizarov external fixation system was further used to gradually adjust the mobility by exerting mechanical stress to the joint. After adjusting the frame under a scheduled plan, the patient successfully restored satisfactory knee function.

    Adequate debridement is the key to control infections of posttraumatic osteomyelitis. Control the infection of posttraumatic patella osteomyelitis by one-staged surgery is achievable and could shorten the knee immobilization period. This procedure could be of major interest for patients in low-income countries where total knee arthroplasty is not available for the population. This study aims at assessing the immediate benefits on pain, gait, and stairs kinematics after a genicular nerve blockade in patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis in Cameroun.

    A prospective study was carried out on 26 subjects in Cameroun. A genicular nerve blockade was performed on 14 women with painful knee osteoarthritis grade 2-4. Lower limb joint angles were recorded with inertial sensors before and 1h after injection. Patient-reported outcomes of pain and perceived difficulty were collected, as well as 10 m and 6 min walking tests. A reliability analysis of inertial sensors was performed on a sample of 12 healthy subjects by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient and the standard error of measurement.

    Pain and perceived difficulty decreased significantly (p< 0.001). Cadence increased significantly in stairs climbing (upstairs + 7.7 steps/min; downstairs + 7.6 steps/min). There was an improvement for hip sagittal range of motion during gait (+ 9.3°) and pelvis transverse range of motion in walking upstairs (- 3.3°). Angular speed range of the knee in the sagittal plane and of the hip in the frontal plane increased significantly in stairs descent (+ 53.7°/s, + 94.5°/s).

    This study quantified improvement of gait and stair climbing immediately after a genicular nerve blockade in patients suffering from knee OA in Cameroon. This is the first study objectifying this effect, through wearable sensors.

AAV-mediated transgene expression in vivo from the hybrid promoter was marginally lower than that observed for AAV vectors encoding the strong CAG promoter, but greatly reduced in the heart, making this promoter/enhancer combination attractive for non-cardiac applications, particularly respiratory tract or liver directed therapies. Replacement of the murine leukemia virus intron present in the original vector construct with a modified SV40 intron reduced the promoter/enhancer/intron cassette size to 719 bp, leaving an additional ~4 kb of coding capacity when packaged within an AAV vector. We have investigated whether HHT patients, systematically screened for HHT-related organ involvement and treated if needed, have a similar survival as persons without HHT. We included all individuals screened for HHT between 2004 and 2016 with a genetically or clinically confirmed diagnosis (HHT group) or excluded diagnosis (non-HHT control group). The social security number was used to confirm status as dead or alive in December 2019. We included 717 HHT patients and 471 controls. There was no difference in survival between the HHT and the non-HHT control group. Untreated AVMs, especially in the lungs-pulmonary AVMs (PAVMs)-can result in morbidity with a decreased life expectancy. We have investigated whether HHT patients, systematically screened for HHT-related organ involvement and treated if needed, have a similar survival as persons without HHT. We included all individuals screened for HHT between 2004 and 2016 with a genetically or clinically confirmed diagnosis (HHT group) or excluded diagnosis (non-HHT control group). The social security number was used to confirm status as dead or alive in December 2019. We included 717 HHT patients and 471 controls. There was no difference in survival between the HHT and the non-HHT control group. The HHT group had a life expectancy of 75.9 years (95% confidence interval (CI) 73.3-78.6), comparable to the control group (79.3 years, 95% CI 74.8-84.0, Mantel-Cox test p = 0.29). In conclusion, the life expectancy of HHT patients systematically screened for HHT-related organ involvement and treated if needed in an HHT center of excellence was similar compared to their controls, justifying systematic screening and treatment in HHT patients.Targeting of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) has emerged as a powerful tool for therapeutic intervention because the overexpression of this enzyme is synonymous with inflammation, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. Herein, a new series of 1,2,4-triazole Schiff bases scaffold with aryl and heteroaryl systems 9a-12d were designed, synthesized, structurally elucidated, and biologically evaluated as a potent COX-2 blocker. The rationale beyond the current study is to increase the molecule bulkiness allowing a selective binding to the unique hydrophobic pocket of COX-2. Among the triazole-thiazole hybrids, the one with the para-methoxy moiety linked to a phenyl ring 12d showed the highest In vitro selectivity by COX-2 inhibition assay (IC50 of 0.04 μM) and in situ anti-inflammatory activity when evaluated using the protein denaturation assay (IC50 of 0.88 μM) in comparison with commercially available selective COX-2 inhibitor, Celecoxib (IC50 of 0.05 μM). Towards the COX-2 selectivity, ligand-based three dimensional quantitative structures activity relationship (3D-QSAR) employing atomic-based and field-based approaches were performed and resulted in the necessity of triazole and thiazole/oxazole scaffolds for COX-2 blocking. Furthermore, the molecular modeling study indicated a high selectivity and promising affinity of our prepared compounds to COX-2, especially the hydrophobic pocket and the mouth of the active site holding hydrogen-bonding, hydrophobic, and electrostatic interactions. In Silico absorption, delivery, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) predictions showed that all the pharmacokinetic and physicochemical features are within the appropriate range for human use.Dynamic knee valgus (DKV) as an incorrect movement pattern is recognized as a risk factor for lower limb injuries. Therefore, it is important to find the reasons behind this movement to select effective preventive procedures. There is a limited number of publications focusing on specific tasks, separating the double-leg from the single-leg tasks. Test patterns commonly used for DKV assessment, such as single-leg squat (SLS) or single leg landings (SLL), may show different results. The current review presents the modifiable factors of knee valgus in squat and landing single-leg tests in healthy people, as well as exercise training options. The authors used the available literature from PubMed, Scopus, PEDro and clinicaltrials.gov databases, and reviewed physiotherapy journals and books. For the purpose of the review, studies were searched for using 2D or 3D motion analysis methods only in the SLL and SLS tasks among healthy active people. Strengthening and activating gluteal muscles, improving trunk lateral flexion strength, increasing ROM dorsiflexion ankle and midfoot mobility should be taken into account when planning training programs aimed at reducing DKV occurring in SLS.

The growth performance, intestinal development, and transcription of AA transporters were determined. In experiment 2, 24 broiler chickens were subjected to the same treatments as in experiment 1. Birds were fed a commercial starter diet from day 0 to 21 after hatching and then allotted to 7 dietary treatments in a randomized complete block design with the BW as a blocking factor. Four semipurified diets were prepared to contain corn or SBM as the sole source of P with or without the addition of phytase at 1,000 phytase units/kg of diet. Two mixed diets were also prepared to contain corn and SBM with or without the addition of phytase at 1,000 phytase units/kg diet. A P-free diet (PFD) was formulated to determine the basal ileal endogenous loss of P. There were 16 replicate cages of the PFD and 8 replicate cages of the 6 experimental diets, with 8 birds per replicate cage for a total of 512 birds. Diets were fed for 3 d. The ileal digesta of birds were collected from the distal two-thirds of the ileum on day 24 after hatching. The SID of P in corn and SBM were 52.2 and 65.4%, respectively (SEM = 1.37). The addition of phytase improved (P less then 0.05) both the AID and SID of P in the corn, SBM, and mixed diets. The determined AID or SID in the corn and SBM with or without phytase was used to predict the AID or SID in the mixed diets. There were no differences between the predicted and determined digestibility values in the mixed diets for either AID or SID of P and thus additive. Phytase supplementation of the mixed diet did not influence the additivity of AID or SID. Experimental diets were formulated to 3,150 kcal/kg with 5 levels of digestible lysine (dLys)-80, 90, 100, 110, and 120% of recommended AA level giving g dLys/Mcal values of 2.53, 2.85, 3.17, 3.48, and 3.80, respectively. All other AA were formulated to a fixed ratio to dLys. A total of 4,050 chicks were utilized in each trial (9 replicate pens for each AA level and each line; 45 chicks/pen) conducted twice one in hot environmental temperature (HT) (24 h mean ∼85.3 °F; 80.9% RH) and another in cool environmental temperature (CT) (24 h mean ∼71.6 °F; 61.7% RH). Results showed that FI was not impacted by dietary AA levels in HT for both lines. Higher FI (P less then 0.05) was observed in CT for lower dietary AA levels ( less then 100% AA level) for both lines, with overall higher FI occurring in Line B.
