Our findings regarding the significant emotional challenges of this work are of particular importance given the increasing coverage of immigration detention in the media and the increased interest in volunteer opportunities to support this population.

This study aimed to examine the relationship between perceived social support and self-care ability among Chinese enterostomy patients and to explore whether perceived stress mediated this relationship.

    A sample of 410 enterostomy patients aged 59.68 ± 12.95years old were recruited in the study. Participants completed a set of questionnaires including demographics, perceived stress scale, perceived social support scale, and ostomy self-care ability scale.

    A total of 392 valid questionnaires were finally used in the data analyses among 410 questionnaires; the effective response rate was 95.6%. Results demonstrated that the scores of perceived social support were positively correlated with scores of self-care ability scores and negatively with perceived stress scores. And the effect of perceived social support on self-care ability was partially mediated by perceived stress (51.53%).

    Fatigue is a physical and emotional state associated with certain aspects of nursing practice. The current study aimed to investigate the indirect effect of dispositional mindfulness on fatigue via emotional suppression in oncology female nurses.

    In a cross-sectional study, 137 female oncology nurses were recruited from several hospitals to complete baseline questionnaires. Emotional suppression, dispositional mindfulness and fatigue were assessed with the Weinberger Adjustment Inventory (WAI), Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) and the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI) respectively. A Mediation model was tested using structural equation modelling.

    Dispositional mindfulness was negatively associated with emotional suppression (β=-0.69, p=0.000). In addition, emotional suppression was positively associated with fatigue (β=0.32, p=0.014). The mediation path was significant with emotional suppression fully mediating the relationship between dispositional mindfulness and fatigue (b=-0.20 [CI -0.01, -0.25].

    These results support the proposed model, and the assumption that emotional suppression may help facilitate the onset of fatigue or maintain it in female oncology nurses. The findings have implications for the use of brief mindfulness interventions aimed at the effective regulation of emotion in oncology nurses to aid in well-being and optimal nursing practice.

    This study was undertaken to determine the effects of individualized education with support intervention on breast cancer patients' anxiety and depression while undergoing radiation therapy (RT). Moreover, the intervention was assessed for its feasibility in the context of Pakistan.

    A quasi-experimental design was used to conduct this study in RT department of a public hospital in Karachi. A total of 61 breast cancer patients receiving radiation as adjuvant therapy participated in the study. The experimental group (n=31) received individualized education with support in the form of face-to-face sessions and information booklet prior to the commencement of RT. Using an established framework that draws insight from Buddhist psychology, the structure of the self is conceptualized in terms of selflessness and self-centeredness. Specifically, selflessness is construed as a multidimensional concept characterized by interdependence, outsider phenomenology, and impermanence. The three dimensions of the self were assessed at age 26 with inventories of self-transcendence, perspective-taking, and materialism, respectively (N = 814). Teachers and coaches can promote this process by designing a learning environment that invites performers to consider and utilize novel movement solutions. In this article, we present a rationale for using movement sonification to promote creative movement. Movement sonification consists of mapping a movement parameter into sound, with a sound being triggered or changing according to how movement unfolds. We argue that movement sonification can facilitate the emergence of creative movement via enhancing perception of currently performed movements and invite performers to utilize novel affordances, and emphasizing information for regulating subsequent creative actions. We exemplify this concept in a creative dance intervention for children during physical education classes. In conclusion, we contend that learning to explore original dance sequences using movement sonification may provide a meaningful link between creative movement and creative cognition. Children may use their minds and bodies as tools for creative thinking and exploration, such as shaping letters with their bodies.

The results indicated that (1) job insecurity had a significantly predictive effect on nurses' presenteeism behavior; (2) nurses' presenteeism partially mediated the relationship between job insecurity and emotional exhaustion; and (3) supervisor support moderated the relationship between nurses' presenteeism behavior and emotional exhaustion; i.e., the higher the level of supervisor support, the weaker the positive relationship between nurses' presenteeism behavior and emotional exhaustion. The findings provide theoretical guidance and an empirical basis for prevention and intervention strategies concerning nurses' presenteeism behavior.The discrimination migrants perceive during their adaptation process is one of the main sources of stress and it affects their well-being, health and integration severely. The present study analyses how the sense of community (SOC) can have a protective effect against the perception of discrimination and its negative consequences by verifying the following theoretical model discrimination predicts three indicators of psychosocial well-being (psychological distress, satisfaction with life and feelings of social exclusion). Furthermore, the theoretical model proposed also considers the hypothesis that SOC has a moderating role on the effect of perceived discrimination regarding the three variables mentioned above. 1714 migrants from Eastern Europe, Africa and Latin America who live in Málaga, Spain, participated in the study. Data were collected using random-route sampling and survey methodology. After carrying out multiple regression analyses, using the PROCESS tool in SPSS 20, the theoretical model was verified SOC reduces the negative effects of perceived discrimination for the variables psychological distress, satisfaction with life and social exclusion feelings. The process of exploring the movement solutions an environment offers (i.e., affordances) and exploiting novel, functional, and creative movements may translate to and improve how individuals explore and generate novel ideas. Opening perception to the variety of affordances ("conventional" and novel) an environment offers drives creative movement. Teachers and coaches can promote this process by designing a learning environment that invites performers to consider and utilize novel movement solutions. In this article, we present a rationale for using movement sonification to promote creative movement. Movement sonification consists of mapping a movement parameter into sound, with a sound being triggered or changing according to how movement unfolds. We argue that movement sonification can facilitate the emergence of creative movement via enhancing perception of currently performed movements and invite performers to utilize novel affordances, and emphasizing information for regulating subsequent creative actions. We exemplify this concept in a creative dance intervention for children during physical education classes. In conclusion, we contend that learning to explore original dance sequences using movement sonification may provide a meaningful link between creative movement and creative cognition. Children may use their minds and bodies as tools for creative thinking and exploration, such as shaping letters with their bodies.

    Rule-based data quality assessment in health care facilities was explored through compilation, implementation, and evaluation of 63,397 data quality rules in a single-center case study to assess the ability of rules-based data quality assessment to identify data errors of importance to physicians and system owners.

    We applied a design science framework to design, demonstrate, test, and evaluate a scalable framework with which data quality rules can be managed and used in health care facilities for data quality assessment and monitoring.

    We identified 63,397 rules partitioned into 28 logic templates. A total of 819,683 discrepancies were identified by 4.5% of the rules. Nine out of 11 participating clinical and operational leaders indicated that the rules identified data quality problems and articulated next steps that they wanted to take based on the reported information.

    The combined rule template and knowledge table approach makes governance and maintenance of otherwise large rule sets manageable. Ie implementation site were important enough to prompt action requests from clinical and operational leaders.

     MEDLINE/PubMed Service was searched for the terms "intraoperative MRI," "pediatric," "brain," "tumor," "glioma," and "surgery." The review produced 126 potential publications; 11 fulfilled the inclusion criteria, including 584 patients treated with iMRI-guided resections. Studies reporting about patients <18 years, setup of iMRI, surgical workflow, and extent of resection of iMRI-guided glioma resections were included.

     IMRI-guided surgery is mainly used for pediatric low-grade gliomas. The mean rate of GTR in low- and high-grade gliomas was 78.5% (207/254; 95% confidence interval [CI] 64.6-89.7,
     < 0.001). The mean rate of GTR in iMRI-assisted low-grade glioma surgery was 74.3% (35/47; 95% CI 61.1-85.5,

     The atlantoaxial joint represents the most mobile joint complex within the spine, secured by ligaments and capsules. Integrity of the atlantoaxial joint is crucial with respect to the mobility of the head and the upper spine. Atlantoaxial rotatory dislocation is the most common type of injury within this joint in children and is characterized by a typical position of the head (**** robin position). Nevertheless, this type of injury is frequently overlooked. The purpose of the current study was threefold. First, the characteristics of the patients with atlantoaxial dislocation were identified. Next, we checked if the time to treatment did influence the type of treatment. Finally, we checked if the age of the child at the time of treatment influenced the type of treatment.

     Forty-four children, who were treated consecutively due to atlantoaxial dislocation at a single spine center between September 1993 and October 2018, are analyzed retrospectively regarding age, sex, symptoms, etiology, time to diagnosisisposed to more invasive treatment strategies.
     Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) placement is one of the most frequent neurosurgical procedures. The position of the proximal catheter is important for shunt survival. Shunt placement is done either without image guidance ("freehand") according to anatomical landmarks or by use of various image-guided techniques. Studies evaluating ultrasound-guided (US-G) VPS placement are sparse. We evaluate the accuracy and feasibility of US-G VPS placement, and compare it to freehand VPS placement.

     We prospectively collected data of consecutive patients undergoing US-G VPS placement. Thereafter, the US cohort was compared with a cohort of patients in whom VPS was inserted using the freehand technique (freehand cohort). Primary outcome was accuracy of catheter positioning, and secondary outcomes were postoperative improvement in Evans' index (EI), rates of shunt dysfunction and revision surgery, perioperative complications, as well as operation, and anesthesia times.

    Trabeculectomy was performed on 40 (80 eyes) of 70 New Zealand white rabbits. Take trabecular tissue for backup. Thirty (30 eyes) corneal defect models were made, trabecular tissue was filled in the corneal defect, and the oblique cross stitch was used to suture the corneal laceration and debridement. Anterior segment image and optical coherence tomography (OCT) were performed at the time 1d, 1wk, 1 and 3mo after the model was made. After the observation, the cornea was taken and stained with trypanosome blue-alizarin red and the pathological tissue was examined.

    Observation 1wk after surgery, the area of corneal defect was edema, but the corneal curvature was basically normal, and the anterior chamber existed under slit lamp. After 3mo of observation, most corneal defects were repaired in the form of corneal leucoma and corneal macula (73.3%), the filled trabecular tissue gradually became transparent, fused tightly with the corneal tissue, and the corneal curvature was relatively smooth. But in one case, the trabecular planter was partially detached, no serious complications such as corneal laceration occurred after the stitches were removed.

    Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is characterized by high prevalence, morbidity, and mortality. Diffuse axonal injury (DAI) is a specific type of TBI leading to prolonged consciousness impairment and disability. Patients who received no radiotherapy had a higher mortality rate than those who received radiotherapy (5-year survival rate 71.2% vs 83.8%), with multivariable-adjusted HRs of 1.65 (95% CI 1.57-1.72) for 3-year mortality, 1.53 (1.47-1.58) for 5-year mortality and 1.43 (1.39-1.48) for 10-year mortality. The association held even for patients ≥90 years. This association was observed in all strata by reasons for radiotherapy omission, receipt of endocrine therapy or chemotherapy, calendar period and other clinical characteristics, with 40% to 65% increased 5-year mortality for patients without radiotherapy. This positive association persisted when analyses were restricted to patients with T1N0 and estrogen-receptor-positive disease who had received endocrine therapy (5-year mortality HR 1.47 [1.39-1.57]) and in propensity score weighted analyses. Our study shows, in routine practice, elderly patients who received no post-BCS radiotherapy had higher total mortality than those who received radiotherapy.     The purpose of the study was to identify latent classes of trajectory of change in body mass index (BMI) between the initial and thirteenth session of outpatient treatment for adult anorexia nervosa and identify the association with outcome.

    Participants (n = 120) were randomised to one of three outpatient therapies.

    Four latent classes were identified; two classes (higher, rapid and higher, moderate) had BMI > 17 kg/m
    at initial assessment, and both gained significantly more weight over the 13 sessions compared to the other two classes. The third and fourth classes (middle, stable and low, stable) had an initial BMI of 16.44 and 15.31, respectively, and neither gained weight over the first 13 sessions. Compared to the other three classes, the higher, rapid class (N = 19, 16%) showed a significantly greater BMI increase over the first 13 sessions of therapy and a significantly higher rate of remission at end of treatment and 12-month follow-up (18-22 months post-randomisation).

  • Some of the key questions of interest during the COVID-19 pandemic (and all outbreaks) include where did the disease start, how is it spreading, who is at risk, and how to control the spread. There are a large number of complex factors driving the spread of pandemics, and, as a result, multiple modeling techniques play an increasingly important role in shaping public policy and decision making. As different countries and regions go through phases of the pandemic, the questions and data availability also changes. Especially of interest is aligning model development and data collection to support response efforts at each stage of the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has been unprecedented in terms of real-time collection and dissemination of a number of diverse datasets, ranging from disease outcomes, to mobility, behaviors, and socio-economic factors. The data sets have been critical from the perspective of disease modeling and analytics to support policymakers in real-time. In this overview article, we survey the data landscape around COVID-19, with a focus on how such datasets have aided modeling and response through different stages so far in the pandemic. We also discuss some of the current challenges and the needs that will arise as we plan our way out of the pandemic.Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is transmitted by aerosol and can cause serious bacterial infection in the lung that can be fatal if left untreated. Mtb is now the leading cause of death worldwide by an infectious agent. Using this protocol, we discovered that alveolar macrophages respond to Mtb infection in vivo by up-regulating a cell protective transcriptional response that is regulated by the transcription factor Nrf2 and is detrimental to early control of the bacteria.Significance Cerebral blood flow is an important biomarker of brain health and function as it regulates the delivery of oxygen and substrates to tissue and the removal of metabolic waste products. Moreover, blood flow changes in specific areas of the brain are correlated with neuronal activity in those areas. Diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) is a promising noninvasive optical technique for monitoring cerebral blood flow and for measuring cortex functional activation tasks. However, the current state-of-the-art DCS adoption is hindered by a trade-off between sensitivity to the cortex and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Aim We aim to develop a scalable method that increases the sensitivity of DCS instruments. Approach We report on a multispeckle DCS (****) approach that is based on a 1024-pixel single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) camera. Our approach is scalable to > 100,000 independent speckle measurements since large-pixel-count SPAD cameras are becoming available, owing to the investments in LiDAR technology for automotive and augmented reality applications. Furthermore, we found that the addition of all available SS data, including all recorded channels and both hemoglobin species, improved the method performance despite the additional degrees-of-freedom of the models. When SS data were not available, we found that principal component filtering using a separate baseline scan was the best alternative.   • As a new emerging infectious disease pandemic, there is an urgent need to understand the dynamics of COVID-19 in each country to inform planning of emergency measures to contain its spread. It is essential that appropriate disease control activities are planned and implemented in a timely manner. Thailand was one of the first countries outside China to be affected with subsequent importation and domestic spread in most provinces in the country.

    A key ingredient to guide planning and implementation of public health measures is a metric of transmissibility which represents the infectiousness of a disease. Ongoing policies can utilize this information to plan appropriately with updated estimates of disease transmissibility. Therefore we present descriptive analyses and preliminary statistical estimation of reproduction numbers over time and space to facilitate disease control activities in Thailand.

    The estimated basic reproduction number for COVID-19 during the study ranged from 2.23-5.90, with a mean of to improve the estimation of transmissibility metrics for emergency preparedness as more epidemiological and clinical information about this new infection becomes available. However, the results can be used to guide interventions directly and to help parameterize models to predict the impact of these interventions.
    Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus2 has caused a global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). High-density lipoproteins (HDLs), particles chiefly known for their reverse cholesterol transport function, also display pleiotropic properties, including anti-inflammatory or antioxidant functions. HDLs and low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) can neutralize lipopolysaccharides and increase bacterial clearance. HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) and LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) decrease during bacterial sepsis, and an association has been reported between low lipoprotein levels and poor patient outcomes. The goal of this study was to characterize the lipoprotein profiles of severe ICU patients hospitalized for COVID-19 pneumonia and to assess their changes during bacterial ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) superinfection.

    A prospective study was conducted in a university hospital ICU. All consecutive patients admitted for COVID-19 pneumonia were included. Lipoprotein levels were assessed at admission and daL-C concentrations upon ICU admission are low in severe COVID-19 pneumonia patients but are not associated with poor outcomes. However, low lipoprotein concentrations in the case of bacterial superinfection during ICU hospitalization are associated with mortality, which reinforces the potential role of these particles during bacterial sepsis.

    Twenty-eight percent (28.69%) of subjects reported one or more COVID-19 symptoms, and 21.4% of subjects reported one or more co-morbidities. Knowledge scores were slightly higher in males (8.75± 1.58) than females (8.66± 1.70). Knowledge was significantly correlated with age (p < .005), an education level (p < .001), attitude (p < .001), and urban location (p < .001). Knowledge scores showed an inverse corrlocation. Fear of COVID-19 was more prevalent in female and elderly subjects. A positive attitude was reported for the majority of subjects, reflecting the belief that COVID-19 was controllable and containable.Electro-mechanical brakes (EMBs) are the future of braking systems, particularly in commercial vehicles. Subsequently, the hidden Markov models (HMMs) of driver decelerate and brake intentions were built and recognized based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). Given the time-consuming behavior of the proposed EMB to eliminate brake clearance due to the leverage effect of the arm and motor performance limitation, a clamping force control strategy factoring in the driver intentions was developed to improve the response performance without changing the structure or size of the EMB. Furthermore, simulation analyses were performed using MATLAB/Simulink. The results confirmed that under the action of a step and 5 Hz triangular sawtooth signals, the clamping force output from the EMB corresponds well with the target signal.
    As a new emerging infectious disease pandemic, there is an urgent need to understand the dynamics of COVID-19 in each country to inform planning of emergency measures to contain its spread. It is essential that appropriate disease control activities are planned and implemented in a timely manner. Thailand was one of the first countries outside China to be affected with subsequent importation and domestic spread in most provinces in the country. A key ingredient to guide planning and implementation of public health measures is a metric of transmissibility which represents the infectiousness of a disease. Ongoing policies can utilize this information to plan appropriately with updated estimates of disease transmissibility. Therefore we present descriptive analyses and preliminary statistical estimation of reproduction numbers over time and space to facilitate disease control activities in Thailand. The estimated basic reproduction number for COVID-19 during the study ranged from 2.23-5.90, with a mean of to improve the estimation of transmissibility metrics for emergency preparedness as more epidemiological and clinical information about this new infection becomes available.     Recent epidemiological studies have suggested that sexual dimorphism influences treatment response and prognostic outcome in glioblastoma (GBM). To this end, we sought to (i) identify distinct sex-specific radiomic phenotypes-from tumor subcompartments (peritumoral edema, enhancing tumor, and necrotic core) using pretreatment MRI scans-that are prognostic of overall survival (OS) in GBMs, and (ii) investigate radiogenomic associations of the MRI-based phenotypes with corresponding transcriptomic data, to identify the signaling pathways that drive sex-specific tumor biology and treatment response in GBM.

    In a retrospective setting, 313 GBM patients (male = 196, female = 117) were curated from multiple institutions for radiomic analysis, where 130 were used for training and independently validated on a cohort of 183 patients. For the radiogenomic analysis, 147 GBM patients (male = 94, female = 53) were used, with 125 patients in training and 22 cases for independent validation.

    Cox regression models of radiomic features from gadolinium T1-weighted MRI allowed for developing more precise prognostic models, when trained separately on male and female cohorts. Our radiogenomic analysis revealed higher expression of Laws energy features that capture spots and ripple-like patterns (representative of increased heterogeneity) from the enhancing tumor region, as well as aggressive biological processes of cell adhesion and angiogenesis to be more enriched in the "high-risk" group of poor OS in the male population. In contrast, higher expressions of Laws energy features (which detect levels and edges) from the necrotic core with significant involvement of immune related signaling pathways was observed in the "low-risk" group of the female population.
