  • These results highlight the roles of the antioxidant defense system of the host plant in the tolerance to phytoplasma invasion.Temperature is one of the most important environmental factors driving the genome-to-phenome relationship. Metabolic rates and related biological processes are predicted to increase with temperature due to the biophysical laws of chemical reactions. However, selection can also act on these processes across scales of biological organization, from individual enzymes to whole organisms. Although some studies have examined thermal responses across multiple scales, there is no general consensus on how these responses vary depending on the level of organization, or whether rates actually follow predicted theoretical patterns such as Arrhenius-like exponential responses or thermal performance curves (TPCs) that show peak responses. Here, we performed a meta-analysis on studies of ectotherms where biological rates were measured across the same set of temperatures, but at multiple levels of biological organization enzyme activities, mitochondrial respiration, and/or whole-animal metabolic rates. Our final dataset conshenius predictions were more common (29%). This result suggests a classic assumption about thermal responses in biological rates is rarely observed in empirical datasets, although our results should be interpreted cautiously due to the lack of complete thermal profiles. We advocate for authors to explicitly address organizational disagreement in their interpretations and to measure thermal responses across a wider, more incremental range of temperatures. These results further emphasize the complexity of connecting the genome to the phenome when environmental plasticity is incorporated the impact of the environment on the phenotype can depend on the scale of organization considered.The shape of remiges (primary and secondary feathers) is constrained and stereotyped by the demands of flight, but members of the subfamily of New World ground doves (Peristerinae) possess many atypical remex shapes with which they produce sonations of alarm. Within the genus Columbina specifically, the seventh primary feathers (P7) have elongated barbs that create a protrusion on the trailing vane which varies in size and shape between species. These feathers are hypothesized have been coopted to produce communicative sounds (i.e. sonations) during flight, but the mechanism of this sound production is unknown. We tested the sound-producing capabilities of spread wing specimens from three species of ground doves (C. inca, C. passerina, and C. talpacoti) in a wind tunnel. High speed video and audio analyses indicated that all wings of adult birds produced buzzing sounds in the orientation and flow velocity of mid-upstroke. These buzzing sounds were produced as the protrusion of elongated barbs fluttered and collided with adjacent P6 feathers at a fundamental frequency of 200 and 400 Hz. Objective This systematic review aimed to determine how product placement strategies, availability, and positioning, in physical retail food stores located in high-income countries, influence dietary-related behaviors. Data sources From a search of 9 databases, 38 articles, 17 observational studies, and 22 intervention studies met the study inclusion criteria. Data extraction Two reviewers independently extracted data relating to study design, study population, exposures, outcomes, and key results. Each study was also assessed for risk of bias in relation to the research question. Data analysis Meta-analysis was not possible owing to heterogeneous study designs and outcomes. As recommended by Cochrane, results were synthesized in effect direction plots using a vote-counting technique which recorded the direction of effect and significance level according to the expected relationship for health improvement. Conclusions The majority of studies showed that greater availability and more prominent positioning of healthy foods, or reduced availability and less prominent positioning of unhealthy foods, related to better dietary-related behaviors. A large number of results, however, were nonsignificant, which likely reflects the methodological difficulties inherent in this research field. Adequately powered intervention studies that test both the independent and additive effects of availability and positioning strategies are needed. Its purpose is to help improve the understanding of burn injury worldwide. The purpose of this study was to identify early findings from this database. Methods The GBR was accessed 05 January 2020. Cases from centers in low income (LIC) and low-middle income countries (LMIC) were combined into a Low Resource (LR) group, and cases in High Income (HIC) and Upper Middle Income (UMIC) countries were combined into a High Resource group (HR). Statistical analysis was performed with SAS 9.4. Data are expressed as mean ± SEM. Logistic Regression was used to identify risk factors for death. Revised Baux Score (RBS) was calculated as described by Osler (2010). Odds ratios are expressed as mean (95% confidence interval). The LA50 was calculated from the regression of death and total burn size (TBSA) for different age groups. Results At the time of analysis, there were 4,307 cases in the GBR treated at 28 facilities in 17 countries (5 HIC, 5 UMIC, 4 LMIC, and 3 LIC).

These differences remained significant after adjusting for age, calcium levels, insurance, and comorbidities. Conclusions African-Americans face substantial delays in access to parathyroidectomy after diagnosis with hyperparathyroidism that could impair quality of life and increase health care costs. We must improve systems of diagnosis and referral to ensure timely treatment of hyperparathyroidism.Background New insights into molecular pathogenesis of hepatocellular adenomas (HCA) have allowed sub-classification based on distinct genetic alterations and a fresh look at characterizations of natural history. Clinically, this is important in understanding risk factors for two feared complications malignant transformation and hemorrhage. Methods PubMed literature search for hepatocellular adenoma over all years, excluding case reports and articles focusing on multiple adenomas or adenomatosis. Results The β-catenin exon 3 mutated HCA accounts for about 10% of all HCAs and is associated with the highest risk of malignant transformation. The HF1α subtype accounts for 30-40% of all HCAs and has the lowest risk of malignant transformation. Gender has also emerged as an increasingly important risk factor and males with HCA are at considerably higher risk of malignant transformation, regardless of tumor size. The increasing use of gadoxetic-enhanced MRI has allowed for improved differentiation of HCAs from focal nodular hyperplasia, as well as the identification of specific radiologic features of some subtypes, particularly the inflammatory and HF1α HCAs. Conclusions Classification of HCA by subtype has important implications for patient counseling and treatment given variable risks of malignant transformation and hemorrhage. Males and those with β-catenin exon 3 mutated HCAs are two groups who should always be counselled to undergo surgical resection. Results After 12 weeks, 10 patients (25%) had a complete response, 12 patients (30%) had a partial response, and 18 patients (45%) had no response. No significant association was found between any individual biomarker and response to DPCP or OS. The BRAF mutation rate was 25% (10/40). Early real-world experience of vedolizumab and ustekinumab in pediatric IBD shows promising results, including clinical response rates comparable to what is seen in adults, but there are limited data using them as first-line therapies. Biologic therapies have improved outcomes in pediatric IBD, including achieving mucosal healing as well as improved growth and pubertal development. Therapeutic drug monitoring improves likelihood of response to anti-TNFα therapies, but further studies for vedolizumab and ustekinumab are necessary.Optimization of donor-recipient matching is a common concept in liver transplantation. In emergency transplant for acute liver failure, outcome is influenced by timing, patient clinical condition, and graft quality. Clinically, this is important in understanding risk factors for two feared complications malignant transformation and hemorrhage. Methods PubMed literature search for hepatocellular adenoma over all years, excluding case reports and articles focusing on multiple adenomas or adenomatosis. Results The β-catenin exon 3 mutated HCA accounts for about 10% of all HCAs and is associated with the highest risk of malignant transformation. The HF1α subtype accounts for 30-40% of all HCAs and has the lowest risk of malignant transformation. Gender has also emerged as an increasingly important risk factor and males with HCA are at considerably higher risk of malignant transformation, regardless of tumor size. The increasing use of gadoxetic-enhanced MRI has allowed for improved differentiation of HCAs from focal nodular hyperplasia, as well as the identification of specific radiologic features of some subtypes, particularly the inflammatory and HF1α HCAs. Conclusions Classification of HCA by subtype has important implications for patient counseling and treatment given variable risks of malignant transformation and hemorrhage. Males and those with β-catenin exon 3 mutated HCAs are two groups who should always be counselled to undergo surgical resection.   • OBJECTIVE Subdural hematoma (SDH), a form of traumatic brain injury, is a common disease that requires extensive patient management and resource utilization; however, there remains a paucity of national studies examining the likelihood of readmission in this patient population. The aim of this study is to investigate differences in 30- and 90-day readmissions for treatment of traumatic SDH using a nationwide readmission database. METHODS The Nationwide Readmission Database years 2013 - 2015 was queried. Patients with a diagnosis of traumatic SDH and a primary procedure code for incision of cerebral meninges for drainage were identified using the International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification coding system. Patients were grouped by no readmission (Non-R), readmission within 30 days (30-R), and readmission within 31 to 90 days (90-R). RESULTS A total of 14,355 patients were identified, with 3,106 (21.6%) patients encountering a readmission (30-R n = 2,193 [15.3%]; 90-R n = 913 [6.3%]; Non-R n = 11,249). The most prevalent 30- and 90- day diagnoses seen among the readmitted cohorts were postoperative infection (30-R 10.5%, 90-R 13.0%) and epilepsy (30-R 3.7%, 90-R 1.1%). On multivariate logistic regression analysis, Medicare, Medicaid, hypertension, diabetes, renal failure, congestive heart failure and coagulopathy were independently associated with 30-day readmission; Medicare and rheumatoid arthritis/collagen vascular disease were independently associated with 90-day readmission. CONCLUSION In this study, we determine the relationship between readmission rates and complications associated with surgical intervention for traumatic subdural hematoma. BACKGROUND The growing interest in minimally invasive approaches to the thoracic and lumbar spine is mostly secondary to the high surgical morbidity and complication rates associated with conventional open approaches. OBJECTIVE To report the largest series of patients with thoracic and lumbar vertebral osteomyelitis who underwent multilevel corpectomies using the minimally invasive lateral (MIL) retropleural and retroperitoneal approaches. RESULTS Multilevel corpectomies were successfully accomplished in all 14 patients using the MIL approaches (11 patients with 2-level corpectomy, 2 patients with 3-level corpectomy, and 1 patient with extension of a 3-level corpectomy to 6 levels). Correction of kyphotic deformity was achieved postoperatively in all 14 patients and remained stable with no proximal junctional kyphosis for a median of 10 months of follow-up on 10 patients; 4 patients were lost to follow-up after discharge from hospital. Posterior instrumentation was performed in 12 patients to further support the spinal alignment. CONCLUSION The MIL retropleural and retroperitoneal approaches described in this manuscript are feasible and safe in achieving multilevel corpectomies, anterior column reconstruction, and spinal deformity correction is patients with thoracic, lumbar, and thoracolumbar vertebral osteomyelitis. While most cases are associated with trauma and injuries to draining veins, traumatic aSDH from injury to arteries or spontaneous aSDH due to a ruptured intracranial aneurysm can occur. For some patients without a clear clinical history, it can be difficult to distinguish between these etiologies purely based on radiography. The objective of this research was to describe a case series in which imaging was suggestive of the presence of distal cortical intracranial aneurysm associated with aSDH, but operative management demonstrated no evidence of aneurysm. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 2 patients known to have aSDH with suspicion for associated aneurysm between May 2019 and September 2019 at our institution. Data collected included demographic, clinical and operative course, including age, gender, past medical history, presenting symptoms, and pre and post operative imaging. RESULTS In 2 patients presenting with aSDH with pre operative radiographic imaging suggesting distal middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysms, surgical exploration revealed no aneurysm. In both cases, non-iatrogenic active arterial bleeding from an injured cortical MCA branch was identified. CONCLUSION While there are prior reports of arterial aSDH, this is the first to describe the radiographic 'ghost aneurysm' sign. It is important for clinicians to be aware of this potential misleading radiographic sign, which indicates active extravasation into a spherical cast of clot. Custom-made porous hydroxyapatite prostheses have long been used for cranial reconstruction in patients with traumatic brain injury. We present a large consecutive series of two groups of patients undergoing cranioplasty with hydroxyapatite custom bone and compare the adverse events between the two groups. MATERIALS AND METHODS We examined a series of consecutive patients who underwent cranioplasty using custom-made porous hydroxyapatite implants following tumor resection and traumatic brain injury from March 2013 to May 2018 at a single center. The implants were designed and produced according to the surgeon's specifications and based on the patient's CT scan data which were obtained through a standardized protocol. Adverse events were recorded. RESULTS Information on thirty-eight patients with tumor and thirty-nine patients with traumatic brain injury were collected and analyzed. A significant difference in the timing of surgery was found between the two groups (single-stage surgery was performed in 84% of tumor patients versus 8% in traumatic brain injury group; P less then .0001). The rate of adverse events did not significantly differ between the two groups (P = 0.4309) and it was not related to the timing of surgery. CONCLUSIONS Custom-made hydroxyapatite cranioplasty is a solution for cranial reconstruction in patients with cranial tumors. The low incidence of adverse events in a consecutive series of patients with either trauma or tumors demonstrates that these prostheses represent a safe solution independently from the characteristics of cases.

  • The skin temperature (Tm) of the orofacial area influences orofacial functions and is related to the blood flow (BF). Marked increases in BF mediated by parasympathetic vasodilation may be important for orofacial Tm regulation. Therefore, we examined the relationship between parasympathetic reflex vasodilation and orofacial Tm in anesthetized rats. Electrical stimulation of the central cut end of the lingual nerve (LN) elicited significant increases in BF and Tm in the lower lip. These increases were significantly reduced by hexamethonium, but not atropine. VIP agonist increased both BF and Tm in the lower lip. The activation of the superior cervical sympathetic trunk (CST) decreased BF and Tm in the lower lip; however, these decreases were significantly inhibited by LN stimulation. Our results suggest that parasympathetic vasodilation plays an important role in the maintaining the hemodynamics and Tm in the orofacial area, and that VIP may be involved in this response.BACKGROUND Although immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) is one of the foremost primary glomerular disease, treatment of IgAN is still in infancy. Non-invasive biomarkers are urgently needed for IgAN diagnosis. We investigate the difference in expression profiles of exosomal long non-coding-RNAs (lncRNAs) in plasma from IgAN patients compared with their healthy first-degree relatives, which may reveal novel non-invasive IgAN biomarkers. METHODS We isolated exosomes from the plasma of both IgAN patients and their healthy first-degree relatives. High-throughput RNA sequencing and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to validate lncRNA expression profiles. Pathway enrichment analysis was used to predict their nearest protein-coding genes. RESULTS lncRNA-G21551 was significantly down-regulated in IgAN patients. Interestingly, the nearest protein-coding gene of lncRNA-G21551 was found to be encoding the low affinity receptor of the Fc segment of immunoglobulin G (FCGR3B). CONCLUSIONS Exosomal lncRNA-G21551, with FCGR3B as the nearest protein-coding gene, was down-regulated in IgAN patients, indicating its potential to serve as a non-invasive biomarker for IgAN.BACKGROUND Mycobacterial species other than Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium leprae are generally free-living organisms and Mycobacterium simiae is one of the slowest growing Non-tuberculous mycobacteria. This is the first case report of Mycobacterium simiae infection in Sri Lanka and only very few cases with extrapulmonary manifestation reported in the literature. CASE PRESENTATION A 24-year-old, previously healthy Sri Lankan male presented with generalized lymphadenopathy with discharging sinuses, evening pyrexia, weight loss, poor appetite and splenomegaly. Lymph node biopsies showed sheets of macrophages packed with organisms in the absence of granulomata. Ziehl Neelsen, Wade Fite and Giemsa stains revealed numerous red coloured acid-fast bacilli within foamy histiocytes. Slit skin smear for leprosy was negative and tuberculosis, fungal and bacterial cultures of the lymph node and bone marrow did not reveal any growth. Later he developed watery diarrhea and colonoscopy revealed multiple small idered to be restricted to certain geographic areas such as mainly Iran, Cuba, Israel and Arizona and this is the first case report from Sri lanka. Using the Multi-Process Action Control model as our guiding framework, we will examine how implicit and explicit psychological processes along with regulatory practices impact PA change during this major life transition. Additionally, we will use a real-time data capture method called Ecological Momentary Assessment to further investigate how environmental and contextual factors, and momentary psychosocial influences effect PA patterns across this dynamic life stage. METHODS The ADAPT study is a 4-year project comprised of two interrelated studies. Study I is a large prospective cohort study that will invite all grade 11 students across one large school board (a total of seven secondary schools) to participate by completing an online questionnaire. Using a cluster randomization approach, a subset of students from each school will be invited to participate in Study II, whereby participants will wear an accelerometer and complete Ecological Momentary Assessments 5 times a day over a 7-day study period. For both studies, following baseline assessments, there will be three annual follow-up assessments approximately 12 months apart. DISCUSSION The current study represents one of the largest longitudinal cohort studies examining PA and its determinants and associated consequences among adolescents transitioning out of high school into emerging adulthood. Electrical stimulation of the central cut end of the lingual nerve (LN) elicited significant increases in BF and Tm in the lower lip. These increases were significantly reduced by hexamethonium, but not atropine. VIP agonist increased both BF and Tm in the lower lip. The activation of the superior cervical sympathetic trunk (CST) decreased BF and Tm in the lower lip; however, these decreases were significantly inhibited by LN stimulation. Non-invasive biomarkers are urgently needed for IgAN diagnosis. We investigate the difference in expression profiles of exosomal long non-coding-RNAs (lncRNAs) in plasma from IgAN patients compared with their healthy first-degree relatives, which may reveal novel non-invasive IgAN biomarkers. METHODS We isolated exosomes from the plasma of both IgAN patients and their healthy first-degree relatives. High-throughput RNA sequencing and real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to validate lncRNA expression profiles. Pathway enrichment analysis was used to predict their nearest protein-coding genes. RESULTS lncRNA-G21551 was significantly down-regulated in IgAN patients. Interestingly, the nearest protein-coding gene of lncRNA-G21551 was found to be encoding the low affinity receptor of the Fc segment of immunoglobulin G (FCGR3B). CONCLUSIONS Exosomal lncRNA-G21551, with FCGR3B as the nearest protein-coding gene, was down-regulated in IgAN patients, indicating its potential to serve as a non-invasive biomarker for IgAN.BACKGROUND Mycobacterial species other than Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium leprae are generally free-living organisms and Mycobacterium simiae is one of the slowest growing Non-tuberculous mycobacteria. Additionally, we will use a real-time data capture method called Ecological Momentary Assessment to further investigate how environmental and contextual factors, and momentary psychosocial influences effect PA patterns across this dynamic life stage. METHODS The ADAPT study is a 4-year project comprised of two interrelated studies. Study I is a large prospective cohort study that will invite all grade 11 students across one large school board (a total of seven secondary schools) to participate by completing an online questionnaire. Using a cluster randomization approach, a subset of students from each school will be invited to participate in Study II, whereby participants will wear an accelerometer and complete Ecological Momentary Assessments 5 times a day over a 7-day study period. For both studies, following baseline assessments, there will be three annual follow-up assessments approximately 12 months apart. DISCUSSION The current study represents one of the largest longitudinal cohort studies examining PA and its determinants and associated consequences among adolescents transitioning out of high school into emerging adulthood.   • PURPOSE Return to work (RTW) is important for employees who have survived cancer, yet it is challenging for employers. Small enterprises ( less then  100 employees) might have limited resources to facilitate RTW of cancer survivors. The purpose of this article is to examine how such employers engage in the support of RTW and to uncover their needs. METHODS Eleven owners and one HR manager representing 12 small enterprises (various sectors) were interviewed regarding their experience with RTW of employees surviving cancer. We conducted a thematic analysis with aspects of Grounded Theory. RESULTS The characteristics of being a small enterprise (i.e. informal practical arrangements, working as a family, working with limited resources and people) related to four concerns experienced by these employers (concerns about the employer's enterprise; the employee's cancer and recovery; RTW and work adjustments; and about communication). In line with these concerns, employers need information on rights and obligations, RTW arrangements and communication skills during RTW guidance. CONCLUSIONS In small enterprises, employers have generally close relationships with their employees, which means that support is gladly provided when employees are diagnosed with cancer. They do however have limited financial means to facilitate RTW and workplace adjustments. They therefore perceive long-term sickness and RTW as a major financial risk for the company.Smokers report weight and appetite control as motivators to smoking continuance. These concerns are particularly salient for smokers who use cigarettes to suppress appetite and manage weight. Dieting may influence weight, shape, and appetite-related smoking motivation; however, this has not yet been examined. This study tested associations between five diet types and smoking motivation to control weight, shape, and appetite among adult daily cigarette smokers (N = 550). A multivariate analysis was used to test the incremental association between diet types and Smoking-Related Weight and Eating Episodes Test (SWEET) subscales, adjusting for age, body mass index, sex, and cigarette dependence. Smokers who diet (n = 83, 15.1%) reported higher scores on all SWEET subscales compared to smokers not on a diet. Low-calorie dieting was associated with greater smoking motivation to cope with body dissatisfaction, and low-sugar dieting was associated with greater motivation for smoking to prevent withdrawal-related appetite increases. The open cloud-based platform will offer precise clinical assistance for phenotyping (diagnosis), treatment allocation (prediction), and patient endpoints (prognosis), based on the use of imaging biomarkers, tumour growth simulation, advanced visualisation of confidence scores, and machine-learning approaches. The decision support prototype will be constructed and validated on two paediatric cancers neuroblastoma and diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. External validation will be performed on data recruited from independent collaborative centres.   • Together, our findings demonstrate that epigenetic silencing of SIX3 is controlled by a sophisticated and highly ordered oncogenic signaling pathway and therefore provide new insights into initiation and progression of glioblastoma.Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has evolved over several thousands of years, which has been shown to be efficacious in the treatment of ischemic heart disease. Three classical TCM prescriptions, namely Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction, Zhishi Xiebai Guizhi Decoction, and Gualou Xiebai Banxia Decoction, have been extensively used in the treatment of coronary heart disease (CHD). Based on molecular network modeling, we performed a comparative pharmacogenomic analysis to systematically determine the drug-targeting spectrum of the three prescriptions at molecular level. Wide-area target molecules of CHD were covered, which was a common feature of the three decoctions, demonstrating their therapeutic functions. Meanwhile, collective signaling involved metabolic/pro-metabolic pathways, driving and transferring pathways, neuropsychiatric pathways, and exocrine or endocrine pathways. These organized pharmacological disturbance was mainly focused on almost all stages of CHD intervention, such as anti-atherosclerosis, lipid metabolism, inflammation, vascular wall function, foam cells formation, platelets aggregation, thrombosis, arrhythmia, and ischemia-reperfusion injury. In addition, heterogeneity analysis of the global pharmacological molecular spectrum revealed that signaling crosstalk, cascade convergence, and key targets were tendentious among the three decoctions. After all, it is unadvisable to rank the findings on targeting advantages of the three decoctions. Finally, we summarize knowledge gaps in the field and highlight active clinical trials in th low volume intermediate-risk prostate cancer.Older patients with severe physical trauma are at high risk of developing neuropsychiatric syndromes with global impairment of cognition, attention, and consciousness. We employed a thoracic trauma (TxT) mouse model and thoroughly analyzed age-dependent spatial and temporal posttraumatic alterations in the central nervous system. Up to 5 days after trauma, we observed a transient 50% decrease in the number of excitatory synapses specifically in hippocampal pyramidal neurons accompanied by alterations in attention and motor activity and disruption of contextual memory consolidation. In parallel, hippocampal corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) expression was highly upregulated, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels were significantly reduced. In vitro experiments revealed that CRH application induced neuronal autophagy with rapid lysosomal degradation of BDNF via the NF-κB pathway. The subsequent synaptic loss was rescued by BDNF as well as by specific NF-κB and CRH receptor 1 (CRHR1) antagonists. In vivo, the chronic application of a CRHR1 antagonist after TxT resulted in reversal of the observed histological, molecular, and behavioral alterations. Heterogeneity was found in analyses for three SNPs (rs6551665, rs1947274, and rs2345039). In adults, results were not significant (n = 6532 cases/15,874 controls) rs6551665 A allele (Z score = 2.005; p = 0.0450); rs1947274 A allele (Z score = 2.179; p = 0.0293); rs1947275 T allele (Z score = -0.822; p = 0.4109); and rs2345039 C allele (Z score = -1.544; p = 0.1226). Heterogeneity was found just for rs6551665. In addition, funnel plots did not suggest publication biases. Consistent with ADGRL3's role in early neurodevelopment, our findings suggest that the gene is predominantly associated with childhood ADHD.

The results of our meta-analysis suggest an effect of ADGRL3 variants on ADHD susceptibility in children (n = 8724/14,644 cases/controls and 1893 families) rs6551665 A allele (Z score = -2.701; p = 0.0069); rs1947274 A allele (Z score = -2.033; p = 0.0421); rs1947275 T allele (Z score = 2.339; p = 0.0978); and rs2345039 C allele (Z score = 3.806; p = 0.0026). Heterogeneity was found in analyses for three SNPs (rs6551665, rs1947274, and rs2345039). In adults, results were not significant (n = 6532 cases/15,874 controls) rs6551665 A allele (Z score = 2.005; p = 0.0450); rs1947274 A allele (Z score = 2.179; p = 0.0293); rs1947275 T allele (Z score = -0.822; p = 0.4109); and rs2345039 C allele (Z score = -1.544; p = 0.1226). Heterogeneity was found just for rs6551665. In addition, funnel plots did not suggest publication biases. Consistent with ADGRL3's role in early neurodevelopment, our findings suggest that the gene is predominantly associated with childhood ADHD.

RESULTS A total of 795 ALS patients underwent spirometry at diagnosis during the study period. Four hundred and sixteen (52.3%) performed both FVC and SVC, whereas the others performed FVC only. FVC and SVC values were highly correlated (r = 0.92, p  less then  0.001) in the overall population and slightly less correlated in patients with bulbar onset (r = 0.86, p  less then  0.001). Both FVC and SVC proved to have a prognostic role with comparable hazard ratios (HRs) (HR 1.83, 95% CI 1.48-2.27 and 1.88, 95% CI 1.51-2.33, respectively).   • The results show that the film electrode cast by LDH alone or dye alone produces weak photocurrent. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of the LB film electrode is enhanced due to the different dyes' molecular structures and/or aggregations on the surface of LDH with various morphological patterns. The combined NF-LDH/dye composite LB film photoelectrode can generate a photocurrent that is 2-5 times stronger than the raw material, and the stable use efficiency is more than 92%. Present obtained composite LB films demonstrated a uniform morphology and good photoelectric conversion ability. This work provides a useful reference for the field of LDH semiconductor optoelectronic devices and solar cells.Recently, organic crystals with mechanical flexibility have been emerging as a hot research topic due to their great potentials in flexible optoelectronics. Three different emissive organic polymorphs Cry-G, Cry-Y, and Cry-O with elastic, plastic, and brittle natures, respectively, were obtained by fine-tuning crystallization conditions of a diaryl β-diketone compound. Cry-G was found to transduce light and amplify the self-waveguided emission efficiently along the crystal body in the elastically **** state, demonstrating its multifunctional applications in flexible optical devices. The contents of this review are categorized by the type of chemical bond cleavage in the decarbonylative process. The main challenges and opportunities of the decarbonylative process are also examined with the goal of expanding the application range of decarbonylation reactions.In order to study the performance of interatomic potentials and their reliability at higher pressures, the phase diagrams of two different embedded-atom-type potential models (EAMs) and a modified embedded-atom model (MEAM) of lithium are compared. Her trachea was easily intubated with a videolaryngoscope despite a small mouth and micrognathia. Pressure-controlled ventilation with limited peak inspiratory pressure was performed for prevention of pneumothorax. Skin damage and joint luxation were prevented by using a low rebounding mattress, terpolymer-based barrier film, and careful patient positioning. Blood transfusion was effectively performed on the basis of point-of-care viscoelastic hemostatic assay monitoring. She had an uneventful postoperative course without any complications. Conclusions We safely managed a patient with musculocontractural Ehlers-Danlos syndrome undergoing scoliosis surgery.Although consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs) has increasingly been linked with obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and all-cause mortality, evidence remains conflicted and dose-response meta-analyses of the associations are lacking. We conducted an updated meta-analysis to synthesize the knowledge about their associations and to explore their dose-response relations. We comprehensively searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Open Grey up to September 2019 for prospective cohort studies investigating the associations in adults. Summary relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated for the dose-response association. Restricted cubic splines were used to evaluate linear/non-linear relations. We included 39 articles in the meta-analysis. For each 250-mL/d increase in SSB and ASB intake, the risk increased by 12% (RR = 1.12, 95% CI 1.05-1.19, I2 = 67.7%) and 21% (RR = 1.21, 95% CI 1.09-1.35, I2 = 47.2%) for obesity, on only cohort but not intervention studies.We report the characterization of the gene UMAG_00031 from Ustilago maydis, previously identified as upregulated at alkaline pH. This gene is located on chromosome 1 and contains an ORF of 1539 bp that encodes a putative protein of 512 amino acids with an MW of 54.8 kDa. The protein is predicted to contain seven transmembrane domains (TMDs) and a signal peptide suggesting that is located in the cell membrane. Null ΔUMAG_00031 mutants were constructed, and their phenotype was analyzed. The mutant displayed a pleiotropic phenotype suggesting its participation in processes of alkaline pH adaptation independent of the Pal/Rim pathway.   • Graphene aerogel is a promising electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding material because of its light weight, excellent electrical conductivity, uniform three-dimensional (3D) microporous structure, and good mechanical strength. The graphene aerogel with high EMI shielding performance is attracting considerable critical attention. In this study, a novel procedure to fabricate high EMI shielding graphene aerogel was presented, inspired by the irreversible deformation of hydrogels under mechanical pressure. The procedure involved a mechanical compression step on graphene hydrogels for the purpose of altering microstructures followed by freeze-drying and thermal annealing at 900 °C to generate the final products. Because of the flow of internal liquid caused by mechanical compression, the microstructures of hydrogels changed from a cellular configuration to a layered configuration. After a high degree of compression, GAs can be endowed with homogeneous layered structure and high density, which plays a leading role in electromagnetic wave dissipation. Consequently, the aerogels with excellent electrical conductivity (181.8 S/m) and EMI shielding properties (43.29 dB) could be obtained. Besides, the compression process enabled us to form complex hydrogel shapes via different molds. This method enhances the formability of graphene aerogels and provides a robust way to control the microstructure.Tough adhesive hydrogels that can tightly bond to wet tissue/polymer/ceramic/metal surfaces have great potentials in various fields. However, conventional adhesive hydrogels usually show short-term and nonreversible adhesion ability, as the water component in a hydrogel readily transforms to vapor or ice in response to fluctuation of environment temperature, hindering their applications in extreme conditions such as in freezing Arctic and roasting Africa. For the first time, urushiol (UH), a natural catechol derivative with a long alkyl side chain, is used as a starting material to copolymerize with acrylamide for fabricating adhesive hydrogels, which contain hydrophobic/hydrophilic moieties, antifreezing agent, and adhesive catechol groups. The antifreezer/moisturizer glycerol/water binary solvent dispersed in the hydrogel endows it with antifreezing/antiheating property. The hydrophobic association and π-π interaction from UH moieties of the copolymer greatly improve its mechanical strength (tensile stress ∼0.12 MPa with strain of ∼1100%, toughness ∼72 kJ/m3, compression stress ∼6.72 MPa at strain of 90%). The hydrogel can strongly adhere to various dry/wet biological/polymeric/ceramic/metallic substrates at temperatures ranging from -45 to 50 °C. Under ambient conditions, its adhesion force to porcine skin, glass, and tinplate may reach up to 160, 425, and 275 N/m, respectively. Even stored at -45 or 50 °C for 30 d, the hydrogel still maintains good flexibility and robust adhesion force. It also shows repeatable underwater adhesion to biological tissue, glass, ceramic, plastic, and rubber. This novel antifreezing/antiheating adhesive hydrogel may be applied in extremely cold or hot environments and in underwater conditions.The development of science and technology is accompanied by a complex composition of multiple pollutants. Conventional passive separation processes are not sufficient for current industrial applications. The advent of active or responsive separation methods has become highly essential for future applications. In this work, we demonstrate the preparation of a smart electrically responsive membrane, a poly(vinylidene difluoride) (PVDF)-graphene composite membrane. The high graphene content induces the self-assembly of PVDF with a high β-phase content, which displays a unique self-piezoelectric property. Additionally, the membrane exhibits excellent electrical conductivity and unique capacitive properties, and the resultant nanochannels in the membrane can be reversibly adjusted by external voltage applications, resulting in the tailored gas selectivity of a single membrane. The constructed free-standing BP@NC composite anode offers three-dimensional (3D) mixed-conducting network for Li+/e- transports. The substrate of NC film has a certain flexibility up to 10.2% elongation that can restrain the volume change of BP and electrode during operation. In addition, molecular dynamic (MD) simulation and density function theory (DFT) show the greatly enhanced Li+ diffusion in BP@NC composite where the Li ions receive less repulsive force at the interface of BP interlayer and nanocellulose. Benefiting from above multifunction of nanocellulose, the BP@NC composite exhibits high capacities of 1020.1 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 after 230 cycles and 994.4 mAh g-1 at 0.2 A g-1 after 400 cycles, corresponding to high capacity retentions of 87.1% and 84.9%, respectively. Our results provide a low-cost and effective strategy to develop advanced electrodes for next-generation rechargeable batteries.The growing enthusiasm to mimic the luminous properties of fluorescent proteins (FPs) has expanded to include the potential biomedical applications of FP analogues. We developed a series of non-fluorescent oligopeptides (Fc-(X)n; where X = F, Y, W, and H; n = 1-3) that can aggregate into fluorescent nanoparticles with rainbow colors, termed the peptidyl rainbow kit (PRK). The PRK encompasses the full visible color spectrum, and its photoluminescent properties may have originated from aggregation-induced emission (AIE). Intermolecular forces restricted the intramolecular motions of the oligopeptide residues, providing a barrier to non-radiative conformational relaxation pathways and leading to AIE fluorescence. The PRK oligopeptides are pH sensitive, biocompatible, and photostable under physiological conditions, making the PRK a promising fluorescence candidate for biomedical applications.
