    The 20 patients were categorized as "good response" [12 patients achieving partial response (PR)] and "poor response" [8 patients with progressive disease (PD)] groups. Altogether 23 significantly different expressed proteins were identified, which had relative ratios higher than 1.2 or lower than -0.83, with 7 proteins having an area under the curve (AUC) above 0.8. To further validate the DIA results, we used the parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) method to examine 16 candidate serum biomarkers in the study cohort of 20 patients and another cohort of 22 advanced lung adenocarcinoma patients (16 PR and 6 PD). Quantitative validation using PRM correlated well with the DIA results, and 10 promising proteins exhibited a similar up- or downregulation. It is worth noting that glutathione peroxidase 3 (GPX3) exhibits significant upregulation in the poor response group compared with the good response group, which was validated by both DIA and PRM methods.

    Our study confirmed that combined DIA MS and PRM approaches were effective in identifying serum predictive biomarkers for advanced lung adenocarcinoma patients. Further studies are needed to explore the potential biological mechanism underlying these biomarkers.

    Micropapillary/solid (MP/S) growth patterns of lung adenocarcinoma are vital for making clinical decisions regarding surgical intervention. This study aimed to predict the presence of a MP/S component in lung adenocarcinoma using radiomics analysis.

    Between January 2011 and December 2013, patients undergoing curative invasive lung adenocarcinoma resection were included. Using the "PyRadiomics" package, we extracted 90 radiomics features from the preoperative computed tomography (CT) images.   • The importance of supplementary motor area (SMA) for motor function and compensation for primary motor area (M1) has received increased attention.

    We used diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to evaluate structure and function of corticospinal projection originating from SMA. Fibers of corticospinal projection originating from M1 (CST) and SMA (ACST) were analyzed. ACST originating from mesial SMA area formed separate white matter bundles leaving the anterior part of M1 area, which then entered the posterior limb of the internal capsule. Projection and overlap of both CST and ACST were detected on medulla.

    Fibers of contralesional ACST were more than that of ipsilesional ACST in patients with SMA tumors (p<0.05). In patients with SMA tumor, all patients experienced temporary akinesia postoperatively. Seven hundred forty-one fibers of ipsilateral ACST and no fibers of ipsilateral CST were detected in the patient with M1 glioma, while most of contralateral limb movement was preserved. MEP could be evoked by stimulating SMA area as well as M1 area. ACST originated from SMA area and projected to the medial medulla.

This systematic review examines robotic proctectomy or proctocolectomy with IPAA. A limited meta-analysis was performed on data comparing the robotic approach to laparoscopy.

It also partially synergized with vancomycin against S. epidermidis, which enhanced its antimicrobial effects and reduced its toxicity to mammalian cells. Taken together, EP is a potential antibiotic for treating refractory infections caused by S. epidermidis.Here we report on the heritability and Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICCs) of brain volumes in 1,103 young healthy adults with mean age 29.2 years. Among them are 153 monozygotic (MZ) twin pairs and 86 dizygotic (DZ) twin pairs, 133 non-twin siblings of MZ twins, 76 non-twin siblings of DZ twins, 335 siblings, and 81 unrelated individuals. ICCs were calculated between pairs of the following genetic groups (1) MZ twins; (2) DZ twins; (3) MZ twins-their singleton siblings; (4) DZ twins-their singleton siblings; (5) siblings (SB); and (6) unrelated individuals (NR). We studied 4 brain groups global, lobar, subcortical, and cortical brain regions. For each of 4 brain groups we found the same order of ICCs ranging from the highest values for MZ twins, statistically significantly smaller for the DZ twins and 3 sibling groups, and practically zero for NR. The DZ twins and 3 sibling groups were not different. No hemispheric difference was found in any genetic group. Among brain groups, the highest heritability was for the global regions, followed by lobar and subcortical groups.

  • Establishing accurate symptomatology associated with novel diseases such as COVID-19 is a crucial component of early identification and screening. This case report identifies an adult patient with a history of clotting dysfunction presenting with rare cutaneous manifestations of COVID-19, known as 'COVID-19 toes'', previously described predominantly in children. Additionally, this patient presented with possible COVID-associated muscle spasticity of the lower limbs, as well as a prolonged and atypical timeline of COVID-19 infection. The rare occurrence of 'COVID-19 toes'' in this adult patient suggests that her medical history could have predisposed her to this symptom. This supports the coagulopathic hypothesis of this manifestation of COVID-19 and provides possible screening questions for patients with a similar history who might be exposed to the virus. He subsequently developed global cerebral atrophy and was found to meet diagnostic criteria for haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). This patient's presentation was consistent with existing literature showing that autoimmune encephalitis may develop after an initial viral meningoencephalitis. However, concurrent anti-NMDAR and anti-AMPAR1 positive autoimmune encephalitis has not been reported in literature to date, and this case report represents one instance of its presentation.     Establishing accurate symptomatology associated with novel diseases such as COVID-19 is a crucial component of early identification and screening. This case report identifies an adult patient with a history of clotting dysfunction presenting with rare cutaneous manifestations of COVID-19, known as 'COVID-19 toes'', previously described predominantly in children. Additionally, this patient presented with possible COVID-associated muscle spasticity of the lower limbs, as well as a prolonged and atypical timeline of COVID-19 infection. The rare occurrence of 'COVID-19 toes'' in this adult patient suggests that her medical history could have predisposed her to this symptom. This supports the coagulopathic hypothesis of this manifestation of COVID-19 and provides possible screening questions for patients with a similar history who might be exposed to the virus.   • The current investigation assessed the impacts of sub-lethal concentrations of silicon dioxide nanoparticles (SiO2NPs) on hepato-renal functions, histopathological characteristics, and gene transcription in gills and liver of Nile tilapia juveniles. A unique composite end-point of heart failure (HF) related and sudden cardiac death (SCD) or SCD-equivalent events was also explored. During a median follow-up of 53 months (25th-75th 13-84 months), a total of 13 HF- and 7 SCD-related first events were collected. Compared to controls, HCM patients showed an impaired functional capacity with most of them showing peak oxygen uptake (pVO2) values of less then 80% of the predicted, clearly discrepant with functional New York Heart Association class assessment. The composite end-point occurred more frequently in patients with the worst CPETs' profiles. At the univariate analysis, pVO2% was the variable with the strongest association with adverse events at follow-up (C-index = 0.72, p = 0.025) and a cut-off value equal to 60% was the most accurate in identifying those patients at the highest risk. Stroke **** were treated for 4 weeks with either vehicle, the α5-selective negative allosteric modulator, L655,708, or the ρ1/2 antagonists, (R)-4-ACPBPA and (S)-4-ACPBPA respectively from 3 days post-stroke. Infarct size and expression levels of GAT3 and reactive astrogliosis were determined using histochemistry and immunohistochemistry respectively, and motor function was assessed using both the grid-walking and cylinder tasks. After stroke, significant increases in ρ1 and ρ2 mRNAs were observed on day 3, with ρ2 showing a further increase on day 7. (R)- and (S)-4-ACPBPA are both potent antagonists at ρ2 and only weak inhibitors of α5β2γ2 receptors. Treatment with either L655,708, (S)-4-ACPBPA (ρ1/2 antagonist; 5 mM only), or (R)-4-ACPBPA (ρ2 antagonist; 2.5 and 5 mM) from 3 days after stroke resulted in a significant improvement in motor recovery on the grid-walking task, with L655,708 and (R)-4-ACPBPA also showing an improvement in the cylinder task.   • A preoperative educational and informative interview was used in six studies, one study used empathic interview, one used motivational interview and one used hand massage. The meta-analysis, including four studies using nursing interviews, had a sample of n=419 in the intervention group and n=445 in the control group. The mean difference in preoperative state anxiety measured with the STAI was in favour of the nursing intervention.

In Experiment 1, nouns of graspable objects were used as stimuli. Participants had to decide if each noun referred to a natural or artifact, by performing either a precision or a power reach-to-grasp movement. Response grasp could be compatible or incompatible with the grasp typically used to manipulate the objects to which the nouns referred. The results revealed faster reaction times (RTs) in compatible than in incompatible trials. In Experiment 2, the nouns were combined with adjectives expressing either disadvantageous information about object graspability (e.g., sharp) or information about object color (e.g., reddish). No difference in RTs between compatible and incompatible conditions was found when disadvantageous adjectives were used. Conversely, a compatibility effect occurred when color adjectives were combined with nouns referring to natural objects. Finally, in Experiment 3 the nouns were combined with adjectives expressing tactile or shape proprieties of the objects (e.g., long or smooth). Results revealed faster RTs in compatible than in incompatible condition for both noun categories. Taken together, our findings suggest that adjectives can shape the sensorimotor activation elicited by nouns of graspable objects, highlighting that language simulation goes beyond the single-word level.Ecological soil quality standards for lead (Pb) that account for soil Pb bioavailability have not yet been derived. We derived such standards based on specific studies of the long-term bioavailability and toxicity of Pb to soil organisms and a compilation of field data on the bioaccumulation of Pb in earthworms. Toxicity thresholds of Pb to plants, invertebrates, or microorganisms vary over more than 2 orders of magnitude, and the lowest values overlap with the range in natural Pb background concentrations in soil. Soils freshly spiked with Pb2+ salts exhibit higher Pb bioavailability and lower toxic thresholds than long-term aged and leached equivalents. Comparative toxicity tests on leaching and aging effects suggest using a soil Pb threshold that is 4.0 higher, to correct thresholds of freshly spiked soils. Toxicity to plants and earthworms, and microbial N-transformation and bioaccumulation of Pb in earthworms increase with decreasing effective cation exchange capacity (eCEC) of the soil, and models were derived to normalize data for variation of the eCEC among soils. Suggested ecological quality standards for soil expressed as total soil Pb concentration are lower for Pb toxicity to wildlife via secondary poisoning compared with direct Pb toxicity to soil organisms. Standards for both types of receptors vary by factors of approximately 4 depending on soil eCEC.     A preoperative educational and informative interview was used in six studies, one study used empathic interview, one used motivational interview and one used hand massage. In Experiment 1, nouns of graspable objects were used as stimuli. Participants had to decide if each noun referred to a natural or artifact, by performing either a precision or a power reach-to-grasp movement. Response grasp could be compatible or incompatible with the grasp typically used to manipulate the objects to which the nouns referred. The results revealed faster reaction times (RTs) in compatible than in incompatible trials. In Experiment 2, the nouns were combined with adjectives expressing either disadvantageous information about object graspability (e.g., sharp) or information about object color (e.g., reddish). No difference in RTs between compatible and incompatible conditions was found when disadvantageous adjectives were used. We derived such standards based on specific studies of the long-term bioavailability and toxicity of Pb to soil organisms and a compilation of field data on the bioaccumulation of Pb in earthworms. Toxicity thresholds of Pb to plants, invertebrates, or microorganisms vary over more than 2 orders of magnitude, and the lowest values overlap with the range in natural Pb background concentrations in soil. Soils freshly spiked with Pb2+ salts exhibit higher Pb bioavailability and lower toxic thresholds than long-term aged and leached equivalents. Comparative toxicity tests on leaching and aging effects suggest using a soil Pb threshold that is 4.0 higher, to correct thresholds of freshly spiked soils. Toxicity to plants and earthworms, and microbial N-transformation and bioaccumulation of Pb in earthworms increase with decreasing effective cation exchange capacity (eCEC) of the soil, and models were derived to normalize data for variation of the eCEC among soils. Due to the switchable surface charge, the membrane had high emulsion separation efficiency and flux recovery ratio (approximately 100%). Besides, the dye (reactive black 5, RB-5) adsorption capacity reached 140 mg/m2 in water, and approximately 90% RB-5 could be released in pH 9.0. The anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate, SDBS) was also reversely interpreted and released by the membrane via manipulating the ambient pH. Thus, a great need exists for new targeted therapeutic approaches to more effectively treat SHH MB in children. Imipramine blue (IB), a novel molecule with anti-tumor properties, inhibits the NADPH oxidase (NOX) family of enzymes, which are critical for SHH MB survival and treatment resistance. In this study, IB was encapsulated within a liposome to form a liposomal nanoparticle, Liposome-IB (Lipo-IB). This complex has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and be preferentially taken up by tumor cells within the brain. We demonstrated in vitro that Lipo-IB treatment caused a dose-dependent decrease in SHH MB cell viability and migration. Short-term administration of single agent Lipo-IB treatment of SHH MB in vivo significantly inhibited tumor growth, reduced the tumor volume, including a complete tumor response, and improved survival compared to control treated ****, without any observable toxicity. We conclude that Lipo-IB is a potential novel nanoparticle-based therapeutic for the treatment of SHH MB that warrants further preclinical safety and efficacy testing for development towards clinical investigation.Tepals constitute the most abundant bio-residues of saffron (Crocus sativus L.). This study aimed to deepen the phytochemical composition of dried saffron tepals and to investigate whether this was influenced by the extraction technique. In particular, the conventional maceration was compared with the Ultrasound Assisted Extraction (UAE), using different solvents (water and three methanol concentrations, i.e., 20%, 50%, and 80%). Compared to the spice, the dried saffron tepals showed a lower content of total phenolics (average value 1127.94 ± 32.34 mg GAE 100 g-1 DW) and anthocyanins (up to 413.30 ± 137.16 mg G3G 100 g-1 DW), but a higher antioxidant activity, which was measured through the FRAP, ABTS, and DPPH assays. The HPLC-DAD analysis detected some phenolic compounds (i.e., ferulic acid, isoquercitrin, and quercitrin) not previously found in fresh saffron tepals. Vitamin C, already discovered in the spice, was interestingly detected also in dried tepals. Regarding the extraction technique, in most cases, UAE with safer solvents (i.e., water or low percentage of methanol) showed results of phenolic compounds and vitamin C similar to maceration, allowing an improvement in extractions by halving the time. The anti-cancer activity was examined on HCT-116 (human colorectal carcinoma) and HeLa (cervical cancer cells) using MTT (3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay and post-48 h treatment of MSNPs caused a dose-dependent inhibition of HCT-116 and HeLa cell proliferation and growth. In this study, IB was encapsulated within a liposome to form a liposomal nanoparticle, Liposome-IB (Lipo-IB). This complex has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and be preferentially taken up by tumor cells within the brain. We demonstrated in vitro that Lipo-IB treatment caused a dose-dependent decrease in SHH MB cell viability and migration. Short-term administration of single agent Lipo-IB treatment of SHH MB in vivo significantly inhibited tumor growth, reduced the tumor volume, including a complete tumor response, and improved survival compared to control treated mice, without any observable toxicity. Compared to the spice, the dried saffron tepals showed a lower content of total phenolics (average value 1127.94 ± 32.34 mg GAE 100 g-1 DW) and anthocyanins (up to 413.30 ± 137.16 mg G3G 100 g-1 DW), but a higher antioxidant activity, which was measured through the FRAP, ABTS, and DPPH assays. The HPLC-DAD analysis detected some phenolic compounds (i.e., ferulic acid, isoquercitrin, and quercitrin) not previously found in fresh saffron tepals. Vitamin C, already discovered in the spice, was interestingly detected also in dried tepals. Regarding the extraction technique, in most cases, UAE with safer solvents (i.e., water or low percentage of methanol) showed results of phenolic compounds and vitamin C similar to maceration, allowing an improvement in extractions by halving the time.   • These findings will bring deep scientific knowledge to the design of new porous crystals and functions.In the field of biomaterials for healthcare applications, Advanced Healthcare Materials (AHM) has become one of the leading journals. Since 2011, AHM keeps bringing the latest research results in biomaterial science aimed at promoting human health. Nowadays, bibliometrics, of which methodological approaches can quantitively and qualitatively analyze the research performance of journals or subject fields, has attracted considerable attention among the scientific community. A general bibliometric overview of the research performance of AHM is presented. With the aid of Web of Science Core Collection database and VOSviewer software, the annual publication, the most prolific and influential authors/countries from AHM is identified. In addition, the most cited documents and keyword cooccurrence network analysis allow to recognize the major research topics in AHM. At last, the summary of current research trends based on AHM bibliometric analysis, several considerations for the clinical translation of biomaterials, and prospects to advance the field are also proposed. This editorial presents major research trends in the field of engineered materials for healthcare applications.Wild mushrooms are a vital source of income and nutrition for many poor communities and of value to recreational foragers. Literature relating to the edibility of mushroom species continues to expand, driven by an increasing demand for wild mushrooms, a wider interest in foraging, and the study of traditional foods. Although numerous case reports have been published on edible mushrooms, doubt and confusion persist regarding which species are safe and suitable to consume. Case reports often differ, and the evidence supporting the stated properties of mushrooms can be incomplete or ambiguous. The need for greater clarity on edible species is further underlined by increases in mushroom-related poisonings. We propose a system for categorizing mushroom species and assigning a final edibility status. Using this system, we reviewed 2,786 mushroom species from 99 countries, accessing 9,783 case reports, from over 1,100 sources. We identified 2,189 edible species, of which 2,006 can be consumed safely, and a further 183 species which required some form of pretreatment prior to safe consumption or were associated with allergic reactions by some. We identified 471 species of uncertain edibility because of missing or incomplete evidence of consumption, and 76 unconfirmed species because of unresolved, differing opinions on edibility and toxicity.     The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between erythropoietin rs1617640 polymorphism and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) in Slovenian subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The second aim was to find whether erythropoietin expression in fibrovascular membranes varies among individuals carrying different genotypes of the rs1617640.

    This was a retrospective cross-sectional study based on 797 unrelated Slovenian (Caucasian) participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study group consisted of 217 cases with PDR and 580 controls without clinical signs of diabetic retinopathy. Each subject was genotyped for rs1617640 polymorphism. Fibrovascular membranes from 27 subjects who underwent vitreoretinal surgery were analysed with immunohistochemistry. We searched for expression of erythropoietin, its cognate receptor and for a pan-endothelial marker CD-34.

    Our results show that subjects carrying a minor GG genotype had significantly higher risk for PDR in both unadjusted (p = 0.02) and adjusted (p = 0.04) recessive genetic models. Subjects with the GG genotype had a 1.6-fold increased risk of developing PDR compared to subjects carrying the major T allele. In fibrovascular membranes from subjects with PDR, the mean number of cells expressing EPO was significantly higher in G allele carriers compared to the homozygotes for the common T allele.

    We aimed to evaluate long-term changes in patient-reported bowel function from presentation of anal canal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) successfully treated with the modified Nigro protocol using a patient-reported outcome measure for bowel function.

    This is a retrospective study of prospectively collected patient-reported outcomes for bowel function. We included patients that were successfully treated with the modified Nigro protocol for anal SCC and had completed the Colorectal Functional Outcomes (COREFO) questionnaire at presentation, following the modified Nigro treatment (post-Nigro), and at subsequent surveillance visits (medium and long term). We compared the differences in mean domain and total COREFO scores using a paired t test for each paired time point.

    Twenty-seven patients met inclusion criteria. Time from completion of the modified Nigro was post-Nigro at 3-6months, medium-length follow-up at 8-12months and long-term follow-up at 12-18months. This was a retrospective cross-sectional study based on 797 unrelated Slovenian (Caucasian) participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study group consisted of 217 cases with PDR and 580 controls without clinical signs of diabetic retinopathy. Each subject was genotyped for rs1617640 polymorphism. Fibrovascular membranes from 27 subjects who underwent vitreoretinal surgery were analysed with immunohistochemistry. We searched for expression of erythropoietin, its cognate receptor and for a pan-endothelial marker CD-34. Our results show that subjects carrying a minor GG genotype had significantly higher risk for PDR in both unadjusted (p = 0.02) and adjusted (p = 0.04) recessive genetic models. Subjects with the GG genotype had a 1.6-fold increased risk of developing PDR compared to subjects carrying the major T allele. In fibrovascular membranes from subjects with PDR, the mean number of cells expressing EPO was significantly higher in G allele carriers compared to the homozygotes for the common T allele.   • Background Granulomatous and Lymphocytic Interstitial Lung Diseases (GLILD) is a severe non-infectious complication of Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID), often associated with extrapulmonary involvement. Due to a poorly understood pathogenesis, GLILD diagnosis and management criteria still lack consensus. Accordingly, it is a relevant cause of long-term loss of respiratory function and is closely associated with a markedly reduced survival. The aim of this study was to describe clinical, immunological, laboratory and functional features of GLILD, whose combination in a predictive model might allow a timely diagnosis. Methods In a multicenter retrospective cross-sectional study we enrolled 73 CVID patients with radiologic features of interstitial lung disease (ILD) associated to CVID (CVID-ILD) and 125 CVID patients without ILD (controls). Of the 73 CVID-ILD patients, 47 received a definite GLILD diagnosis while 26 received a clinical-radiologic diagnosis of CVID related ILD defined as uILD. Results In Godified when pooling together GLILD and uILD patients (0.92, 95% CI 0.87-0.97).   • We recently demonstrated a significant shortening of age-adapted telomere length (TL) in lymphocytes of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB)-exposed individuals. Here, we analyzed TL in individuals of the same PCB-exposed cohort during a 6-year follow-up period, investigating the change in TL between the first and second measurement as a function of time, concentration of PCBs and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. The age-adjusted TL of lymphocytes within the cohort of PCB-exposed individuals recovered from a first assessment in 2011 to a second assessment in 2017. Remarkably, if the concentration of lower chlorinated PCBs (LC PCBs) in 2011 was high (≥ 0.055 µg/L), the TL of CMV seropositive individuals remained significantly shortened both compared to age-adjusted controls as well as intra individually. This was confirmed by analysis of covariance as well as by multivariate linear mixed effects models. Since telomeres are responsive to various stress response pathways, including viral infection, we conclude that PCBs could contribute to immune senescence-like phenotypes associated with CMV infections and exacerbate negative aspects associated with the aging of the immune system.

    We conducted a retrospective study involving women who delivered live singletons between 2012 and 2019 in a tertiary hospital. The risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes after laser vaporization of the cervix were assessed using a multivariate regression model. The primary outcome was the adjusted odds ratio for preterm births. We also evaluated the course of labor progression, duration of labor, risk of emergency cesarean deliveries, and the risk of cervical laceration as secondary outcomes.

    As the prevalence of obesity has been rising during the past decades worldwide and especially in Greece, surgeons have faced significant challenges concerning the treatment of morbidly obese women with gynecologic cancer. Panniculectomy is a safe procedure that offers better visualization of pelvic anatomy and prevention of major complications in these women.

    Aim of this study is to describe a single-center experience of surgical treatment of morbidly obese women with gynecologic cancer and concurrent panniculectomy. We, also, review the literature for articles that report concurrent gynecologic surgery and panniculectomy, to summarize the complications that were encountered.

    From 2015 to 2018, 38 obese women were treated with concurrent panniculectomy at the time of gynecologic surgery for cancer in a single institution. Median age was 55.62years old, median BMI 43.79kg/m
    , median blood loss 243.75ml and median operative time approximately 200min. Twenty-nine patients had endometrial cancer, one patient had concurrent endometrial cancer and fallopian tube cancer, six patients had borderline ovarian cancer, and two had adult granulosa ovarian tumour. Intraoperative and postoperative complications were documented. Five patients suffered from wound infection and were treated with antibiotics and one patient died after wound infection, wound dehiscence, and renal failure.

However, the increasing average age of women who are pregnant, especially in Western European countries, has contributed to a significant increase in arrhythmias in pregnant women in recent years. Previous or existing heart diseases can increase the occurrence of arrhythmias. In most cases pregnancy is safe and without consequences for the child and/or mother. Further cardiological work-up (including ECG and echocardiography, and possibly cardiac MRI) should always be performed. The indication for treatment should be made in close cooperation between obstetricians and cardiologists considering symptoms, hemodynamics and prognosis. In the absence of larger studies on efficacy and side effects of antiarrhythmic drugs, these should be administered very cautiously, under strict indication and whenever possible by avoiding the first trimester. Cardiologists with special expertise in arrhythmias should always be consulted, especially in the case of complex and relevant rhythm disturbances.
    Resistance to neoadjuvant chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil, doxorubicin, and cyclophosphamide (FAC) in some patients with locally advanced breast cancer remains one of the main obstacles to first-line treatment. We investigated clinical and pathological responses to FAC neoadjuvant chemotherapy in Mexican women with breast cancer and their possible association with SNPs present in ABC transporters as predictors of chemoresistance.

    A total of 102 patients undergoing FAC neoadjuvant chemotherapy were included in the study. SNP analysis was performed by RT-PCR from genomic DNA. Two SNPs were analyzed ABCB1 rs1045642 (3435 C > T) and ABCG2 rs2231142 (421 G > T).

We, also, review the literature for articles that report concurrent gynecologic surgery and panniculectomy, to summarize the complications that were encountered. From 2015 to 2018, 38 obese women were treated with concurrent panniculectomy at the time of gynecologic surgery for cancer in a single institution. Median age was 55.62years old, median BMI 43.79kg/m , median blood loss 243.75ml and median operative time approximately 200min. Twenty-nine patients had endometrial cancer, one patient had concurrent endometrial cancer and fallopian tube cancer, six patients had borderline ovarian cancer, and two had adult granulosa ovarian tumour. Intraoperative and postoperative complications were documented. Five patients suffered from wound infection and were treated with antibiotics and one patient died after wound infection, wound dehiscence, and renal failure. However, the increasing average age of women who are pregnant, especially in Western European countries, has contributed to a significant increase in arrhythmias in pregnant women in recent years. Previous or existing heart diseases can increase the occurrence of arrhythmias. In most cases pregnancy is safe and without consequences for the child and/or mother. Further cardiological work-up (including ECG and echocardiography, and possibly cardiac MRI) should always be performed. The indication for treatment should be made in close cooperation between obstetricians and cardiologists considering symptoms, hemodynamics and prognosis. We investigated clinical and pathological responses to FAC neoadjuvant chemotherapy in Mexican women with breast cancer and their possible association with SNPs present in ABC transporters as predictors of chemoresistance. A total of 102 patients undergoing FAC neoadjuvant chemotherapy were included in the study. SNP analysis was performed by RT-PCR from genomic DNA. Two SNPs were analyzed ABCB1 rs1045642 (3435 C > T) and ABCG2 rs2231142 (421 G > T). In clinical response evaluation, significant associations were found between the ABCB1 C3435T genotype and breast cancer chemoresistant and chemosensitive patients (p < 0.05). In the early clinical response, patients with genotype C/C or C/T were more likely to be chemosensitive to neoadjuvant therapy than patients with genotype T/T (OR = 4.055; p = 0.0064).
