  • Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is a treatment modality that involves the introduction of stool from a healthy pre-screened donor into the gastrointestinal tract of a patient. It exerts its therapeutic effects by remodeling the gut microbiota and treating microbial dysbiosis-imbalance. FMT is not regulated in Jordan, and regulatory effort for FMT therapy in Jordan, an Islamic conservative country, might be faced with unique cultural, social, religious, and ethical challenges. We aimed to assess knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of ethical and social issues of FMT use among Jordanian healthcare professionals.

    An observational, cross-sectional study design was used to assess knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of ethical and social issues of FMT among 300 Jordanian healthcare professionals.

    Periventricular nodular heterotopia (PNH) is a malformation of cortical development characterized by nodules of abnormally migrated neurons. The cause of posteriorly placed PNH is not well characterised and we present a case that provides insights into the cause of posterior PNH.

    We report a fetus with extensive posterior PNH in association with biallelic variants in LAMC3. LAMC3 mutations have previously been shown to cause polymicrogyria and pachygyria in the occipital cortex, but not PNH. The occipital location of PNH in our case and the proposed function of LAMC3 in cortical development suggest that the identified LAMC3 variants may be causal of PNH in this fetus.

    Malaria is one of the most prevalent and deadliest illnesses in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite recent gains made towards its control, many African countries still have endemic malaria transmission. This study aimed to assess malaria burden at household level in Kongo central province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the impact of community participatory Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Action programme.

    Mixed method research was conducted in two semi-rural towns, Mbanza-Ngungu (a WASH action site) and Kasangulu (a WASH control site) in DRC between 1 January 2017 through March 2018, involving 625 households (3,712 household members). Baseline and post-intervention malaria surveys were conducted with the use of World Bank/WHO Malaria Indicator Questionnaire. An action research consisting of a six-month study was carried out which comprised two interventions a community participatory WASH action programme aiming at eliminating mosquito breeding areas in the residential environment and a community anral hospitals showed high malaria incidence rate, 67.4%. Low household income (ORa = 2.37; 95%CI 1.05-3.12; p < 0.05), proximity to high risk area for malaria (ORa = 5.13; 95%CI 2-29-8.07; p < 0.001), poor WASH (ORa = 4.10; 95%CI 2.11-7.08; p < 0.001) were predictors of household malaria.

    This research showed high prevalence of positive malaria RDT among the responders and high household malaria incidence, which were reduced by a 6-month WASH intervention.   • The treatment of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemias (ALL) has seen remarkable advances recently. However, relapse occurs in approximately 20% of cases which necessitates identifying additional high risk parameters for treatment intensification. The aim of this study is to assess the prognostic significance of CD45 antigen expression in pediatric ALL.

    We studied 363 pediatric patients with B cell precursor-ALL (BCP-ALL) (n=313) and T-ALL (n=50). The ratio of median fluorescence intensity of CD45 expressed in leukemic blasts and normal lymphocytes was calculated. The 75th percentile was taken as cut-off to categorise patients into CD45 high and CD45 low groups.

    The 75th percentile was 0.141 in BCP-ALL and 0.548 in T-ALL. In BCP-ALL, there was a statistically significant association of age (≥10years) (p=0.027) and National Cancer Institute high risk group (p=0.001) with high CD45 expression but not in T-ALL. Worse event-free survival (EFS) was seen with high CD45 expression in BCP-ALL (42.17% versus 60.83%, p=0.0053). In T-ALL, there was no association between CD45 expression and EFS (CD45 high 40.40% versus low 67.35%, p=0.414). The overall survival (OS) was 70% versus 60% (p=0.38) in BCP-ALL and the OS was 82% versus 68% (p=0.16) in T-ALL for CD45 low versus CD45 high groups, respectively.

    Self-selected speed on a 60 m distance increased when walking on sand with respect to solid ground (Median 1.02 m/s), with the highest speed on wet sand (Median 1.15 m/s). A stabilizing strategy on the uneven surface provided by sand was highlighted by i) increased stance and double support durations with respect to speed on wet sand, and ii) increased short-term variability of stride, corresponding to continual adjustments of the lower limbs due to shifting surface provided by sand.

  • These findings demonstrate that patients with nPHPT are more likely to receive bilateral neck explorations and require remedial surgery compared with hPHPT patients. Following surgery, improvements in bone mineral density (BMD) and renal stones are generally observed in those with nPHPT.     Chronic lung allograft dysfunction (CLAD), a complication affecting the survival of lung transplanted patients, includes two clinical phenotypes bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) and restrictive allograft syndrome (RAS). Everolimus is used in CLAD because of its antiproliferative mechanism. In lung transplant patients treated with everolimus, the clinical course of renal and lung function has not yet been assessed systematically in CLAD, BOS and RAS patients for more than 6 months.

    We retrospectively evaluated the 12-month follow-up of renal and lung function of lung-transplanted patients switched to everolimus and evaluated the reduction in immunosuppressant dosage (ISD) and mortality. A two-tailed response to density variation with values falling away on both sides from a peak or climbing from a base was observed for all three populations tested, with the most rapid larval development and the highest values of survival, pupation, and emergence observed at a density of five larvae/container. Although differences in larval development time, survival, pupation and emergence were observed among the different populations under the conditions of our study, our findings indicate that density-dependent effects on the development of different gypsy moth subspecies and populations follow the same trends.

This article reports on the three waves, the current situation and some of the possible factors associated. It outlines the need to reassess the overall situation, re-strategize the approach in order to contain the spread. The first COVID-19 wave lasted from 25 January to 16 February 2020, the second wave occurred between the 27 February 2020 and the 30 June 2020. Results of histological examination of sciatic nerve and multiplex immunoassays of serum showed the absence of immunogenicity and biosafety of plasmid рBud-coVEGF165-coFGF2. This article reports on the three waves, the current situation and some of the possible factors associated. It outlines the need to reassess the overall situation, re-strategize the approach in order to contain the spread. The first COVID-19 wave lasted from 25 January to 16 February 2020, the second wave occurred between the 27 February 2020 and the 30 June 2020. These hot springs harbored more specialists than non-geothermal ecosystems, which are well-adapted to the extreme conditions, as shown by extremely high nearest-taxon index (NTI) and narrower niche width. Habitat differentiation led to the differences in microbial diversity, species-interactions, and community assembly between water and sediment communities. The sediment community showed stronger phylogenetic clustering and was primarily governed by heterogeneous selection, while undominated stochastic processes and dispersal limitation were the major assembly processes in the water community. Temperature and ferrous iron were the major factors mediating the balance of stochastic and deterministic assembly processes in sediment communities, as evidenced by how divergences in temperature and ferrous iron increased the proportion of determinism. Microbial interactions in sediments contributed to deterministic community assembly, as indicated by more complex associations and greater responsiveness to environmental change than water community. These findings uncover the ecological processes underlying microbial communities in hot springs, and provide potential insight into understanding the mechanism to maintain microbial diversity in extreme biospheres.

As metal-organic frameworks and aerogels possess porous structures, carbon materials derived from them can effectively reduce the volume expansion of selenide, resulting in improving cycling stability and enhancing Na+ storage. In this work, CoSe/C@C composites with a hierarchical structure were successfully prepared by freeze-drying and in situ selenization as anode materials. The CoSe/C@C composites exhibited superior cycling stability (a capacity of 332.3 mA h g-1) and capacity retention (63.1% compared to the second cycle) at 200 mA g-1, after 500 cycles. As metal-organic frameworks and aerogels possess porous structures, carbon materials derived from them can effectively reduce the volume expansion of selenide, resulting in improving cycling stability and enhancing Na+ storage. In this work, CoSe/C@C composites with a hierarchical structure were successfully prepared by freeze-drying and in situ selenization as anode materials. The CoSe/C@C composites exhibited superior cycling stability (a capacity of 332.3 mA h g-1) and capacity retention (63.1% compared to the second cycle) at 200 mA g-1, after 500 cycles. We show that the identification of two polytypes by means of X-ray diffraction is not always unambiguous. Our physical property measurements on a phase-pure sample of 3R-NbS2, on a phase-pure sample of 2H-NbS2, and a mixed phase sample confirm earlier reports that 2H-NbS2 is a bulk superconductor and that 3R-NbS2 is not a superconductor above T = 1.75 K. Our results clearly show that specific heat measurements, as true bulk measurements, are crucial for the identification of superconducting materials in this and related systems.   • To develop and test the first causal model of thriving at work in Chinese nurses.

    Nurses' ability to thrive at their work is critical to retain qualified nurses and meet the needs of a constantly changing health environment. However, this is a poorly researched area.

    Thriving at work refers to the feeling of vitality and learning at work, which are evidenced to be solidly associated with nurses' development. Only a few factors have been explored regarding the effects of thriving at work.

    A cross-sectional study was undertaken using stratified random sampling. This involved 565 nurses from five general hospitals in Dali city, Yunnan Province, People's Republic of China. Data were collected from April to September 2019 using seven instruments. The model was constructed and tested using the Analysis of Moment Structure program and reported using the STROBE checklist.

    All model variables provided direct and indirect effects to the outcome. The final model fitted the empirical data with acceptable indiceeliminate violence against Chinese nurses.ACSS1/2 converts acetate into acetyl-coenzyme A, which contributes to histone acetylation in the mitochondria and cytoplasm. Zygotic genome activation (ZGA) is critical for embryo development involving drastic histone modification. An efficient crRNAs-Cas13a targeting strategy was employed to investigate the ACSS1/2 function during ZGA. The results showed that nuclear accumulation of ACSS1 and ACSS2 occurs during ZGA. Knockdown of ACSS1/2 did not affect blastocyst formation when using a normal medium. On culturing embryos in a medium with acetate and no pyruvate (-P + Ace), knockdown of ACSS1 did not affect histone acetylation levels but significantly reduced ATP levels, whereas knockdown of ACSS2 significantly reduced histone acetylation levels in porcine embryos. Inhibition of fatty acid beta-oxidation by etomoxir significantly reduced ATP levels, which could be restored by acetate. The histone acetylation levels in the ACSS1 and ACSS2 knockdown groups both decreased considerably after etomoxir treatment. Moreover, acetate showed dose-dependent effects on SIRT1 and SIRT3 levels when under metabolic stress. The C-terminus of ACSS1 regulated the nuclear translocation.     Resveratrol is considered an anti-inflammatory polyphenolic stilbene involved in the modulation of inflammation.

    Periodontitis was induced in mouse molars using a 5-day ligature model followed by the left second molar extraction and 50µM resveratrol treatment for 1 and 2weeks. We then examined specimens treated for 1week histologically and with immunostaining. Microfocus-computed tomography (micro-CT) was used to examine the bone volume formation.

    After 1week of treatment, proinflammatory cytokine levels (TNF-alpha and IL6), cells exhibiting neutrophil and macrophage marker (MPO), cell proliferation marker (Ki67), and preosteoblastic marker (RUNX2) reactivity decreased in the resveratrol-treated specimens compared to the control group. In contrast, we observed a higher number of CD31-, F4/80-, and osteocalcin- (OCN-) positive cells in the resveratrol-treated specimens. After 2weeks, micro-CT confirmed an increased bone mass in the region of the extraction socket in the resveratrol-treated group.

Yet, little is known about how the sociological aspects of ageing - stigma, finances and family dynamics - impact access to ART. Qualitative interviews with 23 persons aged 50-plus living near Cape Town highlight the barriers and facilitators to the acceptability, affordability and availability of ART access among OPLWH. Key age-related barriers included perceived shame of sexuality and disclosing HIV status to others, perceived disrespect by clinical staff, affording transportation to clinics and pre-existing co-morbidities. Key age-related facilitators included family moral and financial support, particularly from children and grandchildren, and access to social grants. Importantly, many barriers and facilitators had feedback loops, for example social grants reduced transportation barriers to clinics when ageing and poor health limited mobility. As the population living with HIV ages, it is critical to assess the ways ageing, as a social process, impacts ART access and to address these to improve older persons' HIV care.

    Glucocorticoid treatment is used in children with Graves' disease (GD) only in cases of exophthalmos. The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of glucocorticoid pulse therapy on thyroid function and thyroid antibodies in children with GD.

    Twenty children who were treated by intravenous methylprednisolone pulse therapy (MPT) followed by oral prednisolone administration and antithyroid drugs were included in the pulse group. Twenty children who were treated with antithyroid drugs alone were included in the control group. Serum concentrations of free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4), thyrotropin (TSH), thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb), thyroglobulin antibodies (TGAb), and thyrotropin receptor antibodies (TRAb) were recorded at baseline and 10 days, 30 days, and 60 days after treatment.

    Significant differences in FT3, FT4, TSH, TPOAb, TGAb, and TRAb levels were found in the pulse group and the control group from baseline to follow-up time points (all p < 0.05).     Alexithymia, a personality trait characterized by difficulties interpreting one's own emotional states, is commonly elevated in autistic adults, and a growing body of literature suggests that this trait underlies a number of cognitive and emotional differences previously attributed to autism, such as difficulties in facial emotion recognition and reduced empathy. Although questionnaires such as the twenty-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) are frequently used to measure alexithymia in the autistic population, few studies have attempted to determine the psychometric properties of these questionnaires in autistic adults, including whether differential item functioning (I-DIF) exists between autistic and general population adults.

    We conducted an in-depth psychometric analysis of the TAS-20 in a large sample of 743 verbal autistic adults recruited from the Simons Foundation SPARK participant pool and 721 general population controls enrolled in a large international psychological study (the Human Penguingly female, later-diagnosed, and well-educated; clinical and control groups drawn from different studies with variable measures; and an inability to test several other important psychometric characteristics of the TAS-8, including sensitivity to change and I-DIF across multiple administrations.

    We developed a silver-containing hydroxyapatite (Ag-HA) coating to prevent periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is the main PJI-causing bacteria. Previously, we had reported the combined effect of Ag-HA coating and vancomycin (VCM) on MRSA biofilm formation 24h after MRSA inoculation. In this study, we investigated the time-dependent efficacy of Ag-HA coating and VCM on MRSA biofilm formation on Ti discs in vitro by three-dimensional confocal laser scanning microscopic analysis.

    For the Ti VCM and HA VCM groups, the total biofilm volumes per area at 96h after MRSA inoculation were significantly larger than those at 48h after MRSA inoculation, respectively (p < 0.001). Alexithymia, a personality trait characterized by difficulties interpreting one's own emotional states, is commonly elevated in autistic adults, and a growing body of literature suggests that this trait underlies a number of cognitive and emotional differences previously attributed to autism, such as difficulties in facial emotion recognition and reduced empathy. Although questionnaires such as the twenty-item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) are frequently used to measure alexithymia in the autistic population, few studies have attempted to determine the psychometric properties of these questionnaires in autistic adults, including whether differential item functioning (I-DIF) exists between autistic and general population adults. We conducted an in-depth psychometric analysis of the TAS-20 in a large sample of 743 verbal autistic adults recruited from the Simons Foundation SPARK participant pool and 721 general population controls enrolled in a large international psychological study (the Human Penguingly female, later-diagnosed, and well-educated; clinical and control groups drawn from different studies with variable measures; and an inability to test several other important psychometric characteristics of the TAS-8, including sensitivity to change and I-DIF across multiple administrations. B102205113), we developed the reciprocal-space linear interpolation method that can take into account the effects of substrate screening for arbitrarily lattice-mismatched interfaces at the GW level of approximation. In this work, we apply this method to examine the substrate effect on excitonic excitation and recombination of 2D materials by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation. We predict the nonrigid shift of 1s and 2s excitonic peaks due to substrate screening, in excellent agreements with experiments. We then reveal its underlying physical mechanism through 2D hydrogen model and the linear relation between quasiparticle gaps and exciton binding energies when varying the substrate screening. At the end, we calculate the exciton radiative lifetime of monolayer hexagonal boron nitride with various substrates at zero and room temperature, as well as the one of WS2where we obtain good agreement with experimental lifetime. The developed tooth models were then implanted in the ICRP pediatric and adult mesh-type reference computational phantoms (MRCPs) and used to calculate tooth enamel doses, by Monte Carlo simulations with Geant4, for external photon exposures in several idealized irradiation geometries. The calculated dose values were then compared to investigate the dependency of the enamel dose on the age and gender of the phantom and the sites of the teeth. The results of the present study generally show that if the photon energy is low (i.e. 3 MeV, moderate differences were observed (i.e. up to a factor of two), due to the existence of dose build-up in the head of the phantom for high energy photons. The calculated dose values were also compared with those of the previous studies where voxel and mathematical models were used to calculate the enamel doses. The results again showed significant differences at low energies, e.g. up to ~3500 times at 0.015 MeV, which are mainly due to the differences in the level of tooth-modeling detailedness.

A number of methods such as intra-operative cholangiography, use of indocyanine green (ICG) with infrared imaging, and the critical view of safety (CVS) have been suggested to ensure safer Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC).To these, we add posterior infundibular dissection as the initial operative maneuver during LC. Here, we report specific technical details of this approach developed over 30 years with no bile duct injuries and update our experience in 1402 LC.

    In this manuscript, we present a detailed and illustrated description of a posterior infundibular dissection as the initial approach to laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). This technique developed after thirty years of experience with LC and have used it routinely over the past ten years with no bile duct injury.

    Between January of 2010 and December 2019, 1402 Laparoscopic cholecystectomies were performed using the posterior infundibular approach. Operations performed opic cholecystectomy.     Evaluation of orbital proptosis and sutural synostosis pattern along the coronal ring in craniofaciosynostosis patients with or without fibroblastic growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) mutation.

    High-resolution computer tomography was used to assess, in children with or without FGFR2 mutation, the early synostotic involvement of the "major" and "minor" sutures/synchondroses of the coronal arch along with the following orbital parameters interorbital angle, bone orbital cavity volume, globe volume, ventral globe volume, ventral globe index.

    Infants with FGFR2 mutation showed an increased number of closed minor sutures/synchondroses along the posterior coronal branch while both groups showed a comparable synostotic involvement of the minor sutures of the anterior coronal branch. FGFR2 infants with posterior coronal branch synostotic involvement showed a higher degree of proptosis due to both reduced bony cavity volume and increased globe volume (p<0.05).

    The aim of this study is to conduct a retrospective review of data obtained in all consecutive patients who had undergone cerebral decompression using the 3-pillar expansive craniotomy (3PEC) in our hospital between 2016 and 2020.

    We developed a novel craniotomy technique using expansion cranioplasty in patients with traumatic brain injury or stroke, which could relieve intracranial hypertension, maintain cerebral protection, and avoid subsequent cranial repair. Sixteen patients aged 2-18 years old underwent the 3PEC. Two patients, who presented very severe neurological conditions at the admission, died. All surviving patients showed good neurological outcome. None of the survived patients presented with bone flap resorption or sinking flap syndrome.
