To further validate the reproducibility of performance, we used the model of MHRWR to verify related lncRNAs of colon cancer, colorectal cancer and lung adenocarcinoma in the case studies. The codes of MHRWR is available on https//github.com/yangyq505/MHRWR.Interpretation of high level cognitive behavior of human brain requires comprehensive understanding of spike transfer process at neuronal level. Synapses play major role in spike transfer process from one neuron to another. An expanded leaky integrate and fire model of a neuron in multiple input and single output configuration with threshold variability for spike transfer process is proposed in this paper. Asynchronous generation of post synaptic potential is considered. Multiple types of excitatory and inhibitory post-synaptic potentials are also included in the model. An analytical expression of membrane potential including threshold variability and activity dependant noise process has been developed. The model captures several important features of a spiking neuron through a set of well defined parameters. Simulation results are provided to explain various aspects of the proposed model. A functionally scaled version of the model has also been compared with limited experimental data, available from the Allen Institute of Brain Science.Postural sway is a product of the neuromuscular system that is commonly used in contemporary labs and clinics for the assessment of postural stability. In this study, we analyzed the transient responses of the neuromuscular system during the rise-on-toes (ROT) movement in eighteen 11 yrs old girls. Their center of pressure (COP) trajectories were recorded with standard force-platform during the transition from quiet stance to standing on toes. To assess the robustness of children's postural stability, we compared the ROT trajectories while the movement was performed with and without vision. Our results confirmed that the dynamic characteristics of the COP step response were significantly modified by visual feedback. In particular, the ROT test performed with eyes closed (EC) was characterized by a four-fold increase of COP chaotic oscillations at the target (tiptoe) position. This resulted in a substantial increase in the movement's index of difficulty (ID) thus to achieve adequate accuracy of the target-oriented movement the COP velocity was decreased accordingly. This inherent strategy of the brain controller allowed for precise positioning of the COP within the reduced size of the target. In conclusion, the dynamics of the ROT movement is always precisely adjusted to the stability of the upright posture, and thus, the dynamic characteristics of the COP step response are also sensitive measures of postural stability and the ROT can be recommended as a useful test for this assessment in the general population.Optimizing rendering performance is critical for a wide variety of virtual reality (VR) applications. Foveated rendering is emerging as an indispensable technique for reconciling interactive frame rates with ever-higher head-mounted display resolutions. Here, we present a simple yet effective technique for further reducing the cost of foveated rendering by leveraging ocular dominance - the tendency of the human visual system to prefer scene perception from one eye over the other. Our new approach, eye-dominance-guided foveated rendering (EFR), renders the scene at a lower foveation level (with higher detail) for the dominant eye than the non-dominant eye. Compared with traditional foveated rendering, EFR can be expected to provide superior rendering performance while preserving the same level of perceived visual quality. In this work, we tackle the problem of person search, which is a challenging task consisted of pedestrian detection and person re-identification (re-ID). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/tak-715.html Instead of sharing representations in a single joint model, we find that separating detector and re-ID feature extraction yields better performance. In order to extract more representative features for each identity, we segment out the foreground person from the original image patch. We propose a simple yet effective re-ID method, which models foreground person and original image patches individually, and obtains enriched representations from two separate CNN streams. We also propose a Confidence Weighted Stream Attention method which further re-adjusts the relative importance of the two streams by incorporating the detection confidence. Furthermore, we simplify the whole pipeline by incorporating semantic segmentation into the re-ID network, which is trained by bounding boxes as weakly-annotated masks and identification labels simultaneously. From the experiments on two standard person search benchmarks i.e. CUHK-SYSU and PRW, we achieve mAP of 83.3% and 32.8% respectively, surpassing the state of the art by a large margin. The extensive ablation study and model inspection further justifies our motivation.Region-based methods have become the state-of-art solution for monocular 6-DOF object pose tracking in recent years. However, two main challenges still remain the robustness to heterogeneous configurations (both foreground and background), and the robustness to partial occlusions. In this paper, we propose a novel region-based monocular 3D object pose tracking method to tackle these problems. Firstly, we design a new strategy to define local regions, which is simple yet efficient in constructing discriminative local color histograms. Contrary to previous methods which define multiple circular regions around the object contour, we propose to define multiple overlapped, fan-shaped regions according to polar coordinates. This local region partitioning strategy produces **** less number of local regions that need to be maintained and updated, while still being temporally consistent. Secondly, we propose to detect occluded pixels using edge distance and color cues. The proposed occlusion detection strategy is seamlessly integrated into the region-based pose optimization pipeline via a pixel-wise weight function, which significantly alleviates the interferences caused by partial occlusions. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed two new strategies with a careful ablation study. Furthermore, we compare the performance of our method with the most recent state-of-art region-based methods in a recently released large dataset, in which the proposed method achieves competitive results with a higher average tracking success rate. Evaluations on two real-world datasets also show that our method is capable of handling realistic tracking scenarios.

At the core of the proposed model are different variants of Growth Transform dynamical systems that produce stable and interpretable population dynamics, irrespective of the network size and the type of neuronal connectivity (inhibitory or excitatory). In this paper, we present several examples where the proposed model has been configured to produce different types of single-neuron dynamics as well as population dynamics. In one such example, the network is shown to adapt such that it encodes the steady-state solution using a reduced number of spikes upon convergence to the optimal solution. In this paper, we use this network to construct a spiking associative memory that uses fewer spikes compared to conventional architectures, while maintaining high recall accuracy at high memory loads.A growing body of work underlines striking similarities between biological neural networks and recurrent, binary neural networks. A relatively smaller body of work, however, addresses the similarities between learning dynamics employed in deep artificial neural networks and synaptic plasticity in spiking neural networks. The challenge preventing this is largely caused by the discrepancy between the dynamical properties of synaptic plasticity and the requirements for gradient backpropagation. Learning algorithms that approximate gradient backpropagation using local error functions can overcome this challenge. Here, we introduce Deep Continuous Local Learning (DECOLLE), a spiking neural network equipped with local error functions for online learning with no memory overhead for computing gradients. DECOLLE is capable of learning deep spatio temporal representations from spikes relying solely on local information, making it compatible with neurobiology and neuromorphic hardware. Synaptic plasticity rules are derived systematically from user-defined cost functions and neural dynamics by leveraging existing autodifferentiation methods of machine learning frameworks. We benchmark our approach on the event-based neuromorphic dataset N-MNIST and DvsGesture, on which DECOLLE performs comparably to the state-of-the-art. DECOLLE networks provide continuously learning machines that are relevant to biology and supportive of event-based, low-power computer vision architectures matching the accuracies of conventional computers on tasks where temporal precision and speed are essential.Introduction Tinnitus is a complex symptom requiring a thorough multidisciplinary assessment to construct an individual's tinnitus profile. The Antwerp University Hospital hosts a tertiary tinnitus clinic providing intensive, multidisciplinary tinnitus care in the form of combinational psychological treatment with either Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT)/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or TRT/eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS), and physical therapy treatment (in cases of somatic influence of the neck or the temporomandibular area). Several factors may contribute to therapy effect of which the role of gender has recently gained more interest. As such, the current manuscript explores gender differences in the outcome of different tinnitus treatments. Methods Data on treatment outcome of four distinct tinnitus treatments (1. HD-tDCS; 2. orofacial physical therapy; 3. combination TRT + CBT; and 4. combination TRT + EMDbaseline levels (p = 0.0138). Conclusion Our data suggest that male and female tinnitus patients seem to react differently to different therapy options. We strongly encourage further prospective studies to discern the relevance of gender in therapy outcome.Auditory processing disorder (APD) is a specific deficit in the processing of auditory information along the central auditory nervous system. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/i-bet-762.html It is characterized mainly by deficits in speech in noise recognition. APD children may also present with deficits in processing of auditory rhythm. Rhythmic neural entrainment is commonly present in perception of both speech and music, while auditory rhythmic priming of speech in noise has been known to enhance recognition in typical children. Here, we test the hypothesis that the effect of rhythmic priming is compromised in APD children, and further assessed for correlations with verbal and non-verbal auditory processing and cognition. Forty APD children and 33 neurotypical ones were assessed through (a) WRRC, a test measuring the effects of rhythmic priming on speech in noise recognition, (b) a battery of auditory processing tests, commonly used in APD diagnosis, and (c) two cognitive tests, assessing working memory and auditory attention respectively. Findings revealed that (a) the effect of rhythmic priming on speech in noise recognition is absent in APD children, (b) it is linked to non-verbal auditory processing, and (c) it is only weakly dependent on cognition. We discuss these findings in light of Dynamic Attention Theory, neural entrainment and neural oscillations and suggest that these functions may be compromised in APD children. Further research is needed (a) to explore the nature of the mechanics of rhythmic priming on speech in noise perception and why the effect is absent in APD children, (b) which other mechanisms related to both rhythm and language are also affected in this population, and (c) whether music/rhythm training can restore deficits in rhythm effects.Deep neural networks (DNNs) have revolutionized the field of artificial intelligence and have achieved unprecedented success in cognitive tasks such as image and speech recognition. Training of large DNNs, however, is computationally intensive and this has motivated the search for novel computing architectures targeting this application. A computational memory unit with nanoscale resistive memory devices organized in crossbar arrays could store the synaptic weights in their conductance states and perform the expensive weighted summations in place in a non-von Neumann manner. However, updating the conductance states in a reliable manner during the weight update process is a fundamental challenge that limits the training accuracy of such an implementation. Here, we propose a mixed-precision architecture that combines a computational memory unit performing the weighted summations and imprecise conductance updates with a digital processing unit that accumulates the weight updates in high precision. A combined hardware/software training experiment of a multilayer perceptron based on the proposed architecture using a phase-change memory (PCM) array achieves 97.

Lotus seed starch (LS) was enzymatically hydrolyzed by pullulanase, β-amylase and α-amylase to obtain three types of starch nanoparticles (SNPs) P-SNPs, β-SNPs and α-SNPs, respectively. The structure and physicochemical properties of lotus seed starch nanoparticles (LS-SNPs) were systematically studied by Laser particle size analysis, Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectrometry, Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The results showed that compared to LS (10,466.7 ± 230.9 nm), the D [3,2] of P-SNPs were (334.7 ± 16.2), which indicated that LS was decomposed into LS-SNPs with low degree of polymerization. P-SNPs showed the highest efficiency, with 81.74% of samples reaching the nanoscale. The particle size order was LS > β-SNPs (α-SNPs) > P-SNPs. XRD results showed P-SNPs had the highest crystallinity 65.07%. During preparation of LS-SNPs, crystal region was destroyed, and double helix structure became stronger, but no new functional groups were introduced. P-SNPs had the smallest amorphous area and also showed a minimal molecular weight and the broadest molecular weight distribution. P-SNPs had the smallest particle size and the highest crystallinity, so P-SNPs were the best of all LS-SNPs. In a previous article, we reported on the physico-chemical properties of cellulose-based scaffolds derived from sugar-cane bagasse and their preliminary in vitro assessment. In view of skin tissue regeneration, we here present our findings of an extensive in vitro testing of these scaffolds using key cells involved in the wound healing cascade namely fibroblasts, keratinocytes, endothelial cells and macrophages either singly or in various combinations to mimic in vivo conditions. Inflammation was quantified using TNF-α. In vivo biocompatibility as well as wound healing potential of the scaffolds was demonstrated using Wistar rats. Finally, we discuss the effect of curcumin-loaded scaffolds on inflammation and angiogenesis in vitro and in vivo. Nanosilica extracted from sugar-cane bagasse ash was also loaded in the scaffolds and its effect on biological response was assessed. In this work, polyvinylpyrrolidone nanofibers were electrospun incorporated with lecithin, zero-charge natural segment, as non-biofouling nanofiltration membrane with tunable porous structures. Optimum conditions were studied to obtain nano-pore size capable of nano-scaled objects reduction using needle and needleless electrospinning apparatuses. Fiber diameters were in proportional relationship with PVP concentrations to range from 1.2 um to 34 nm at 10 to 5% wt/v PVP respectively. Microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) was added and PVP fibers were photo-crosslinked to enhance the mechanical strength. Mechanical properties of electrospun fibers were enforced up to 279% in the presence of microcrystalline cellulose while increased by 125% when exposed to photo-crosslinking for 8 h by UV-light radiation. UV-crosslinking significantly improved the hydrophobicity of the final mat to report contact angle bigger than 90° at 16 h. Protein adhesion test was conducted to indicate the capability of the electrospun membrane to bypass the blood-plasma products. Zero protein adhesion was recorded by adding only 2% wt/v of lecithin. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/n6022.html V.Sesbania gum (SG) was subjected to chemical modification via the first acidolysis followed by cross-linking under maintaining the basic framework of SG particles so that its performances could be well tailored. The modification of SG was preferred for food processing and drug sustained-release agent uses. The experimental results indicated that the size distribution of SG particles was slightly narrowed by the acidolysis, while the size distribution was apparently broadened by cross-linking. More interestingly, the acidolysis evidently enhanced the intensity of hydrolysate at diffraction angle of 14.5°. The cross-linking was able to improve the freeze-thaw stability, acid and alkali resistance of SG, while the acidolysis only improved the acid resistance. As a traditional role, the cross-linking could lead to the reduction in the swelling capacity of SG. The acidolysis and cross-linking raised the thermal stability of SG. The flattened peak of hydroxyl groups confirmed that the cross-linking groups were successfully introduced into the molecular chains of SG according to FTIR. The addition of SG, PHSG, CLSG and CLPHSG as additives could effectively influence the pasting behavior of potato starch. V.A variety of beneficial pharmacological activities have been reported for Se-enriched Grifola frondosa polysaccharides. However, little has been reported on its absorption, and its intestinal uptake and transport profiles remain unknown. Based on our previous research, the aim of this study was to investigate its absorption from two aspects - the polysaccharides and selenium of Se-enriched Grifola frondosa polysaccharides (Se-GFP-22) across Caco-2 cells in vitro. The Caco-2 cells monolayer culture model was successfully constructed to study the transport and uptake of Se-GFP-22. The results revealed that the uptake and transport of Se-GFP-22 were time- and concentration- dependent. Transport studies illustrated that Se-GFP-22 could penetrate Caco-2 cells, mainly mediated through the same routes as endocytosis and selenium in the organic selenium (Se-GFP-22) was more easily absorbed than that in the inorganic selenium control group (sodium selenite). The uptake of Se-GFP-22 may be a macropinocytosis pathway, which was an accumulation from cytoplasm to nucleus process. Se-GFP-22 was a moderately absorbed biological macromolecule testified by the apparent permeability coefficients (Papp) value and transport rates. This work illustrates the characteristics on uptake and transport of Se-GFP-22 and all these results may help to explore the mechanism of polysaccharide absorption in vitro. V.In this study, Huperzia serrata polysaccharide (HSP) fraction was isolated using response surface methodology (RSM) and Box-Behnken design (BBD). The extraction time, temperature and ratio of water to raw material were employed effects. And properties of four polysaccharide (60%-HSP, 70%-HSP, 80%-HSP and 90%-HSP) were evaluated. The results indicated that the optimal extraction conditions were the following 3.07 h, 49.46 °C and a liquid material ratio of 20.731. The four HSP presented irregular aggregation of shape. And all HSP exhibited antioxidant and anticancer activities.

Cullin-RING E3 ligases are involved in the ubiquitination of substrates that regulate important biological processes and are a potential therapeutic target in many types of cancer. MLN4924, a small molecule of NEDD8-activating enzyme inhibitor, inactivates CRL by blocking cullin neddylation and has been reported to elicit anti-tumor effect. In this study, In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of MLN4924 on angiogenesis in human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs) and four types of cancer cells. Our results showed that MLN4924 inhibits cell viability and induced apoptosis in HUVECs in a dose-dependent manner. MLN4924 inhibits proliferation and interferes with the cell cycle checkpoint regulators, p21, p27, and phospho-histone H3. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment increased the level of UBC12 in HUVECs, indicating that neddylation pathway is involved in VEGF-activated angiogenesis. MLN4924 decreased VEGF-activated cell proliferation via neddylation inhibition. MLN4924 inhibited VEGF-activated cell migration, capillary tube formation and VEGF-mediated Erk1/2 activation in HUVECs. We also examined antitumor effect of MLN4924 using xenograft SCID mouse models of four different types of cancer cells. The in vivo results showed MLN4924 inhibited tumor growth in all four types of cancers with decreasing CD31 expression in xenograft tumor. In conclusion, MLN4924 inhibited viability, migration, and VEGF-promoted angiogenic activity in HUVECs; consistently, MLN4924 inhibited tumor growth in four types of cancers with suppression of angiogenesis. These findings provide evidence to develop therapeutic strategy for cancer treatment through anti-angiogenesis through neddylation inhibition. It is necessary to elucidate the mechanisms of anthracycline resistance to develop new chemosensitizers for breast cancer. In this study, we explored the effects of ligustrazine (TMP) on reverting anthracycline resistance of breast cancer cells, as well as its related mechanisms. Clinical significance of fibrinogen gamma chain (FGG) expression was also analyzed in breast cancer tissues. We provided evidence that breast tumor cell derived FGG participated in anthracycline chemoresistance of breast cancer. Further, TMP reverted epirubicin resistance by inhibiting JAK2/STAT3 signaling and decreasing FGG expression. Meanwhile, the elimination of cancer stem cell was observed in TMP treated chemoresistant breast cancer cells. Clinical analysis demonstrated that patients with FGG expressing breast cancer showed a dramatically low response to anthracycline-based chemotherapy and poor survival. Our data collectively indicated that FGG was an independent detrimental factor for anthracycline based chemotherapy for breast cancer patients. TMP was a novel chemosensitizer for FGG-induced anthracycline chemoresistance in breast cancer treatment. In this study, we showed that CPEΔN may accelerate lung cancer invasion via an E-cadherin-dependent mechanism. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/cct251545.html In vitro experiments and in vivo bioluminescence imaging assay revealed CPEΔN promoted the mobility and invasion of human lung cancer cells by suppressing endogenous expression of E-cadherin, a critical regulator for epithelial tissue homeostasis. Further mechanistic analyses revealed that CPEΔN directly interacted with and stabilized the Snail/HDAC1/HDAC3 complex within the promoter region of the E-cadherin-encoding CDH1 gene. CPEΔN overexpression led to a reduction of histone H3K9 acetylation and an increase of H3K9 and H3K27 trimethylation in the CHD1 gene promoter and ultimately inhibited E-cadherin transcription. In addition, correlations among CPEΔN, E-cadherin expression and tumor progression in 195 cases of lung adenocarcinoma patients were analyzed. Higher nuclear expression of CPEΔN was detected in patients with advanced stage of lung adenocarcinoma. Nuclear expression of CPEΔN was negatively correlated with the cell membrane expression of E-cadherin. Collectively, our findings illustrated that CPEΔN was involved in the transcriptional regulation of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition-related gene CDH1 and provide novel insights into CPEΔN-associated lung cancer metastasis. Therefore, it is hypothesized that the abrogation of the G2/M checkpoint with Wee1 inhibitor might preferentially sensitize TP53-defective ovarian cancer cells. Given the extremely high molecular diversity in ovarian cancer, one approach to improving the clinical efficacy is to identify drug combinations that either broaden the applicable spectrum or circumvent resistance. Here, through a high-throughput unbiased proteomic profiling (RPPA), we found the complementary activated mTOR pathway contributes greatly to Wee1 inhibitor resistance. A combination of Wee1 and mTOR inhibits synergistically inhibiting tumor growth in ovarian cancer cell lines and patient-derived xenograft that closely mimic the heterogeneity of patient tumors. Mechanistically, dual Wee1/mTOR inhibition induced massive DNA replication stress, leading to fork stalling and DNA damage. Moreover, we found that the addition of nucleotide metabolic substrate dNTPs alleviated replication stress, restored the cell cycle and reduced apoptosis to some extent, supporting dNTPs depletion is necessary for the synergy between Wee1 and mTOR inhibits. These results suggest that our study opening up a wider therapeutic window of Wee1 inhibitor for the treatment in epithelial ovarian cancers. Upregulation of KRAS signaling is often seen in cancers that harbor high KRAS mutation rate, such as pancreatic cancer and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Less than 2% of breast cancers have KRAS mutation, however, the alteration of the effector signaling such as PI3K/AKT and MAPK pathways are well known. Mutated KRAS is known to function as immune suppressor in other cancers, but the role of KRAS signaling on tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in breast cancer is not known. We hypothesize that the enrichment of KRAS signaling is associated with reduced patient survival as well as TIME in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Patient cohorts from Molecular Taxonomy of Breast Cancer International Consortium (METABRIC; n = 1903) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA; n = 982) were used. Higher expression of KRAS in breast cancer cell-lines (MCF7, BT474, and MDA-MB231) compared to MCF10A, which is a model of benign mammary cells was found.

Methods Two-hundred and forty-five patients from a phase 3 trial involving TPF induction chemotherapy in stage III/IVA OSCC patients (NCT01542931) were enrolled in this study between 2008 and 2010. The clinical and pathological data were collected and analyzed. The cutoff value for LNR was calculated on the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models, and Kaplan-Meier method were used for survival analysis. Results According to the ROC curve, the cutoff value for LNR was 7.6%. With a median follow-up period of 80 months, the OSCC patients with high-risk LNR (> 7.6%), or positive extranodal extension (ENE) had significantly worse clinical outcomes than patients with low-risk LNR (≤7.6%) or negative ENE. Multivariate analysis on pathological covariates showed that only high-risk LNR was an independent negative predictive factor for survival (P less then .05). The cutoff value of LNR of 7.6% was also verified with the similar results using an open TCGA database, high-risk LNR indicating worse overall survival (P less then .001) and disease-free survival (P less then .001). Conclusion Oral squamous cell carcinoma patients with high-risk LNR have a worse clinical outcome than patients with low-risk LNR. High-risk LNR is an independent negative predictive factor for clinical outcome in patients with locally advanced OSCC.The two-stage process of propensity score analysis (PSA) includes a design stage where propensity scores (PSs) are estimated and implemented to approximate a randomized experiment and an analysis stage where treatment effects are estimated conditional on the design. This article considers how uncertainty associated with the design stage impacts estimation of causal effects in the analysis stage. Such design uncertainty can derive from the fact that the PS itself is an estimated quantity, but also from other features of the design stage tied to choice of PS implementation. This article offers a procedure for obtaining the posterior distribution of causal effects after marginalizing over a distribution of design-stage outputs, lending a degree of formality to Bayesian methods for PSA that have gained attention in recent literature. Formulation of a probability distribution for the design-stage output depends on how the PS is implemented in the design stage, and propagation of uncertainty into causal estimates depends on how the treatment effect is estimated in the analysis stage. We explore these differences within a sample of commonly used PS implementations (quantile stratification, nearest-neighbor matching, caliper matching, inverse probability of treatment weighting, and doubly robust estimation) and investigate in a simulation study the impact of statistician choice in PS model and implementation on the degree of between- and within-design variability in the estimated treatment effect. However, it remains challenging in the construction of conductive and intact Pe-QD films to maximize their functionality. Herein, a ligand-assisted surface matrix strategy to engineer the surface and packing states of Pe-QD solids is demonstrated by a mild thermal annealing treatment after ligand exchange processing (referred to as "LE-TA") triggered by guanidinium thiocyanate. The "LE-TA" method induces the formation of surface matrix on CsPbI3 QDs, which is dominated by the cationic guanidinium (GA+ ) rather than the SCN- , maintaining the intact cubic structure and facilitating interparticle electrical interaction of QD solids. Consequently, the GA-matrix-confined CsPbI3 QDs exhibit remarkably enhanced charge mobility and carrier diffusion length compared to control ones, leading to a champion power conversion efficiency of 15.21% when assembled in PVs, which is one of the highest among all Pe-QD solar cells. Additionally, the "LE-TA" method shows similar effects when applied to other Pe-QD PV systems like CsPbBr3 and FAPbI3 (FA = formamidinium), indicating its versatility in regulating the surfaces of various Pe-QDs. This work may afford new guidelines to construct electrically conductive and structurally intact Pe-QD solids for efficient optoelectronic devices. The first racemic total synthesis of the isoquinoline-benzylisoquinoline alkaloid muraricine is reported herein. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with flat solid substrates has been dominantly used in detecting whole viruses for its straightforwardness and simplicity in assay protocols, but it often suffers from limited sensitivity, poor quantification range, and a time-consuming assay procedure. Here, a lipid-nanopillar-array-based immunosorbent assay (LNAIA) is developed with a nanopillar-supported lipid bilayer substrate with fluorophore-modified antibodies for rapid, sensitive, and quantitative detection of viruses. 3D nanopillar array structures and fluid antibodies with fluorophores facilitate faster and efficient target binding and rapid fluorophore localization for quick, reliable analysis on binding events with a conventional fluorescence microscopy setup. LNAIA enables quantification of H1N1 virus that targets down to 150 virus particles with 5-orders-of-magnitude dynamic range within 25 min, which cannot be achieved with conventional ELISA platforms.

CONCLUSIONS The equity of MCH resources by population size is superior by geographic area and the disproportionate distribution of the number of medical equipment (≥ CNY 10,000) and midwives between different regions was the main source of inequity. Policy-makers need to consider the geographical accessibility of health resources among different regions to ensure people in different regions could get access to available health services. More than 40% of regions in Hunan were found to be inefficient, with using more health resources than needed to produce the current amount of health services. Further investigations on factors affecting the efficiency of MCH resources allocation is still needed to guide regional health plans-making and resource allocation.BACKGROUND The National Health Service diabetes prevention programme in England, (NHS DPP) aims to identify people at high risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and offer them a face-to-face, group-based, behaviour change intervention for at least 9 months. The NHS DPP was rolled out in phases. We aimed to elicit stakeholders' perceptions and experiences of the factors influencing implementation of, and participation in, the programme during the development phase. METHODS Individual, semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with 50 purposively sampled stakeholders service users (n = 20); programme commissioners (n = 7); referrers (n = 8); and intervention deliverers (n = 15). Topic guides were structured using a pragmatic, theory-informed approach. Analysis employed the framework method. RESULTS We identified factors that influenced participation Risk communication at referral - stakeholders identified point of referral as a window of opportunity to offer brief advice, to provide an understanding of T2D rind Fidelity - stakeholders described procedures involved in monitoring service users' satisfaction, outcome data collection and quality assurance assessments. CONCLUSIONS The NHS DPP offers an evidence-informed behavioural intervention for T2D prevention. Better risk communication specification could ensure consistency at the referral stage and improve participation in the NHS DPP intervention. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/bx471.html Cultural adaptations and outreach strategies could ensure the NHS DPP contributes to reducing health inequalities.BACKGROUND The International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) has been widely used to describe the diagnosis information of patients. Automatic ICD-10 coding is important because manually assigning codes is expensive, time consuming and error prone. Although numerous approaches have been developed to explore automatic coding, few of them have been applied in practice. Our aim is to construct a practical, automatic ICD-10 coding machine to improve coding efficiency and quality in daily work. METHODS In this study, we propose the use of regular expressions (regexps) to establish a correspondence between diagnosis codes and diagnosis descriptions in outpatient settings and at admission and discharge. The description models of the regexps were embedded in our upgraded coding system, which queries a diagnosis description and assigns a unique diagnosis code. Like most studies, the precision (P), recall (R), F-measure (F) and overall accuracy (A) were used to evaluate the system performance. Our study had two stages. The datasets were obtained from the diagnosis information on the homepage of the discharge medical record. The testing sets were from October 1, 2017 to April 30, 2018 and from July 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019. RESULTS The values of P were 89.27 and 88.38% in the first testing phase and the second testing phase, respectively, which demonstrate high precision. The automatic ICD-10 coding system completed more than 160,000 codes in 16 months, which reduced the workload of the coders. In addition, a comparison between the amount of time needed for manual coding and automatic coding indicated the effectiveness of the system-the time needed for automatic coding takes nearly 100 times less than manual coding. CONCLUSIONS Our automatic coding system is well suited for the coding task. Further studies are warranted to perfect the description models of the regexps and to develop synthetic approaches to improve system performance.BACKGROUND Good quality midwifery care saves the lives of women and babies. Continuity of midwife carer (CMC), a key component of good quality midwifery care, results in better clinical outcomes, higher care satisfaction and enhanced caregiver experience. However, CMC uptake has tended to be small scale or transient. We used realist evaluation in one Scottish health board to explore implementation of CMC as part of the Scottish Government 2017 maternity plan. METHODS Participatory research, quality improvement and iterative data collection methods were used to collect data from a range of sources including facilitated team meetings, local and national meetings, quality improvement and service evaluation surveys, audits, interviews and published literature. Data analysis developed context-mechanism-outcome configurations to explore and inform three initial programme theories, which were refined into an overarching theory of what works for whom and in what context. RESULTS Trusting relationships across all orgaional boundaries develops the context for successful implementation of CMC. These relationships then become the context that enables CMC to grow and flourish. Trusting relationships, working to full skill set and across women's care journey trigger changes in midwifery practice. Implementing and sustaining CMC within NHS organisational settings requires significant reconfiguration of services at all levels, which requires effective leadership and cannot rely solely on ground-up change. Before 2002, there had been a long-term stalemate between private water companies and District Health Authorities across England. Between 2002 and 2005 the team in the Office of the Chief Dental Officer used leadership and advocacy skills to overcome political barriers, introducing the Water Act 2003 and a Statutory Instrument in 2005 providing indemnity for water companies. This legislation was key in removing obstacles towards the expansion water fluoridation across England.

This legislation was key in removing obstacles towards the expansion water fluoridation across England.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 16 Views 0 önizleme -
Water recycling and reuse is of important value in water-using sectors like petrochemical industry. The aim of this research was to optimise the pre-treatment of petrochemical wastewater to undergo a further membrane treatment, with the final objective of water recycling within the same industry. Laboratory coagulation-flocculation tests prior to biological treatment were performed using Actiflo® Veolia commercial technology and an optimal coagulant dose of 30 mg/L ferric chloride was obtained. A bench-scale Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) system with two sequential reactors with working volumes of 5 L was filled with Z-carriers at 35% of their working volume. Organic loading rate (OLR) was varied from 0.2 to 3.25 kg/(m3 d) and the hydraulic retention time (HRT) ranged from 23.4 h to 4.5 h. High soluble chemical oxygen demand (sCOD) removals were obtained in stationary states (80-90%) and the calculated maximum sCOD that the system could degrade was 4.96 ± 0.01 kg/(m3 d) at 23 ± 2 °C. Changes in feed composition did not decrease sCOD removals showing that MBBR is a robust technology and the coagulation-flocculation step could be by-passed. Further removal of total suspended solids (TSS) and turbidity from the MBBR effluent would be required before a reverse osmosis (RO) step could be performed. A biofilm-forming genus, Haliscomenobacter spp., and an oil degrading genus Flavobacterium spp. were found in all the attached biomass samples. Acinetobacter spp. was the major bacterial genera found in suspended biomass. Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes were the major phyla detected in the carrier samples while Proteobacteria the main one detected in the suspended biomass. The lack of fungal annotated sequences in databases led to a major proportion of fungal sequences being categorized as unclassified Fungi. The results obtained indicate that MBBR is an appropriate technology for hydrocarbon-degrading microorganism growth and, thus, for petrochemical wastewater pre-treatment for water regeneration. V.The foreseen rise on maritime transportation of Hazardous and Noxious Substances (HNS) increases the likelihood of accidents, leading to a higher risk of chemical spillage that can have severe ecological impacts. Considering the lack of information on HNS spills, the response to these events is less well established than those involving oil. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/oltipraz.html Moreover, a paramount knowledge of the physicochemical and ecotoxicological properties of the substance involved is required for an effective environmental risk assessment and response to an HNS spill. In the present work, a new online interface, in which a dynamic HNS database feeds a chemical numerical dispersion model, was developed with the aim to improve predictions regarding the behaviour and environmental risk of HNS spills on marine ecosystems. Potential impacts to pelagic organisms were characterized by coupling model outputs with toxicity risk ratios. Furthermore, a simple population model was developed, foreseeing impacts at the ecological level. The integration of the developed tools establishes an innovative framework, which aims to improve predictions related to HNS plumes' behaviour and potential hazards to the marine environment and associated ecosystem services. Further, this new approach fosters an improved preparedness and response to coastal pollution incidents, enhancing effective decision making and management by competent authorities. V.Although in the last decades significant advances have been made to improve antifouling formulations, the main current options continue to be highly toxic to marine environment, leading to an urgent need for new safer alternatives. For anti-adherence studies, barnacles and mussels are commonly the first choice for experimental purposes. However, the use of these organisms involves a series of laborious and time-consuming stages. In the present work, a new approach for testing antifouling formulations was developed under known formulations and novel proposed options. Due to their high resilience, ability of surviving in hostile environments and high abundance in different ecosystems, medusa polyps present themselves as prospect candidates for antifouling protocols. Thus, a complete protocol to test antifouling formulations using polyps is presented, while the antifouling properties of two invasive seaweeds, Asparagopsis armata and Sargassum muticum, were evaluated within this new test model framework. The use of medusa polyps as model to test antifouling substances revealed to be a reliable alternative to the conventional organisms, presenting several advantages since the protocol is less laborious, less time-consuming and reproductive. The results also show that the seaweeds A. armata and S. muticum produce compounds with anti-adherence properties being therefore potential candidates for the development of new greener antifouling formulations. In the face of global climate change there is an increasing demand for biofuel, which exerts pressure on production and thus management of biofuel plantations. The intensification of whole-tree harvest from biofuel plantations increases export of nutrients. Returning ash from biofuel combustion to the forest plantations can amend the soil nutrient status and thus facilitate sustainable forest management. However, ash affects the forest floor decomposer food web, potentially changing organic matter turnover, carbon sequestration and nitrogen availability. Our aim was to examine the response of decomposer organisms, food web structure and nitrogen mineralization function after ash application. In a coniferous forest plantation amended with 0, 3, 4.5 or 6 t ash ha-1, we sampled in several depths of the forest floor for key organisms of the decomposer food web (fungal biomass, 0-12 cm; bacteria, protozoa, nematodes and enchytraeids, 0-3 cm and 3-6 cm; microarthropods and earthworms, 0-5 cm), 2, 14 and 26 months after ash application. We used structural equation modelling (SEM) to detangle the direct and indirect effects of ash application on organisms in the decomposer food web and on nitrogen availability. We found that ash increased the abundance of bacteria and protozoa, as well as the inorganic nitrogen pool at 0-3 cm depth, whereas the effect of ash was negligible at 3-6 cm depth. Earthworm abundance increased, whereas enchytraeid abundance decreased 2 years after ash application. The structural equation modelling showed that ash application stimulated the bacterial feeding pathway and increased nitrogen mineralization. Contrary, ash had a negative effect on fungal biomass at the first sampling, however, this effect subdued over time. Our results suggest that as the soil decomposer food web is resilient to ash application, this is a viable option for sustainable management of biofuel plantations.

Results from a 2 studies (a field study of 110 corporate employees as well as an experimental study with 107 undergraduate students) support these ideas Individuals with higher levels of PPGO have decreased self-efficacy and performance when observing higher performing coworkers, and individuals with lower levels of PPGO have increased self-efficacy and performance when observing higher performing coworkers. Therefore, observers face the task of not only segmenting a continuous event stream into discrete units, but also processing these units on an appropriate level of aggregation. In 3 experiments, we show that for events observed in an incomplete, piecemeal manner, the temporal extension of event gaps influences the level of hierarchy at which an observer processes the presented event (Experiments 1a and 1b) and that the level of hierarchy is also transferred to an anticipated subsequent event (Experiment 2). Participants viewed film clips showing everyday activities with short or long temporal gaps between the successive shots presenting different aspects of the same activity. The participants' levels of processing were captured via the cued recall of their descriptions of what they had seen in the film clip or via the formulations they used when describing what they expected to happen next. Our findings suggest an extended model of event cognition Viewers aim to represent events continuously and therefore extrapolate in the case of gaps by shifting to higher levels of description. Hair discrimination is a social injustice characterized by unfairly regulating and insulting people based on the appearance of their hair. A sampling of 90 African American community members narrated memories of hair discrimination using the guided hair autobiography method. While the hair narratives revealed texture, length, and style were the most common entry points into discriminatory behaviors, color, hair augmentation, density, and product choice were also tools of "othering" within a Eurocentric aesthetic value system. The narratives suggested that men and women experience interpersonal rejections early in their development in both emotionally intimate (at home with family) and public settings (at school with teachers and classmates). Sadness was the most frequently reported emotional response to these rejections. These findings extend the current literature on the psychological significance of hair within Black lives and pleads for policies of hair protection at work, hair-based professional development for teachers in schools, hair-influenced educational curriculum for students, community-based programming in hair care settings, and family interventions during hair combing interactions. However, some experience psychological growth. Given that natural hazards will increase in the near future due to global warming, it would be helpful to examine predictors of growth across different kinds of natural hazards. The present study examined positive psychological factors that may serve as buffers against the negative effects of exposure to a natural hazard, specifically following the Louisiana flooding of August 2016. Volunteer participants (N = 120) self-reported perceived presence and search for meaning in life, social support, resilience, and posttraumatic growth (PTG). After controlling for amount of property damaged, posttraumatic stress symptoms, gender, religion, and ethnicity or race, presence and search for meaning, social support, and resilience explained significant additional variance in PTG scores. This research adds to the growing understanding of how individuals respond to natural hazards. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved).Theories that describe how people assign prices and make choices are typically based on the idea that both of these responses are derived from a common static, deterministic function used to assign utilities to options. However, preference reversals-where prices assigned to gambles conflict with preference orders elicited through binary choices-indicate that the response processes underlying these different methods of evaluation are more intricate. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/wz-811.html We address this issue by formulating a new computational model that assumes an initial bias or anchor that depends on type of price task (buying, selling, or certainty equivalents) and a stochastic evaluation accumulation process that depends on gamble attributes. To test this new model, we investigated choices and prices for a wide range of gambles and price tasks, including pricing under time pressure. In line with model predictions, we found that price distributions possessed stark skew that depended on the type of price and the attributes of gambles being considered. Prices were also sensitive to time pressure, indicating a dynamic evaluation process underlying price generation. The model out-performed prospect theory in predicting prices and additionally predicted the response times associated with these prices, which no prior model has accomplished. Finally, we show that the model successfully predicts out-of-sample choices and that its parameters allow us to fit choice response times as well. This price accumulation model therefore provides a superior account of the distributional and dynamic properties of price, leveraging process-level mechanisms to provide a more complete account of the valuation processes common across multiple methods of eliciting preference. Desert truffles have high nutritional value and grow wild in the Mediterranean basin and Western Asia. Although, many studies were performed to evaluate truffles nutritious values and phytochemical composition, studies are limited to evaluate their anticancer and/ or immunomodulatory effects. Our study was conducted to evaluate the anticancer and immunomodulatory effects of Terfezia boudieri (desert truffle). Different solvent extracts were prepared from the truffle and MTT assay was used to measure their anticancer activity against cancer cell lines (T47D, MCF-7, MDA-MB231, HCT-116, and Hela). Total phenolic content in each extract was determined by using Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and qualitative phytochemical screening was performed using standard methods. The degree of apoptosis induction (using caspase 3 assay) and vascular endothelial growth factor expression were detected using standard kits. Also, ELISA was used to measure levels of IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-4, and IL-10 secreted by splenocytes after treatment witost potent extracts to stimulate lymphocytes proliferation while all other extracts showed moderate stimulation. Aqueous/methanol extract was the most active extract to stimulate phagocytosis. Ethyl acetate extract was the most active extract to stimulate pinocytosis. The use of T. boudieri provides variable health benefits. N-hexane, ethyl acetate, and aqueous/methanol extracts exhibited anticancer activities and are potent stimulators of innate and acquired immunity. Further testing is needed to identify the biologically active compounds and detect them quantitatively using GC-MS analysis. Methods We conducted a retrospective cohort study collecting a total of 14,373 singletons born after frozen embryo transfer at the Center for Reproductive Medicine Affiliated to Shandong University from September 2013 to September 2018. The women were divided into two groups according to the regimens for endometrium preparation either natural cycles (n = 10,211) or programming cycles (n = 4,162). The primary outcomes were the incidence of obstetric complications consisting of pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes mellitus, placenta previa, placental abruption, and postpartum hemorrhage. The perinatal outcomes included average birthweight, low birthweight (LBW), very LBW, macrosomia, large for gestational age, and small for gestational age. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to adjust for potential confounders. Results The incidences of pre-eclampsia (8.6 vs. 3.8%) and postpartum hemorrhage (0.7 vs. 0.2%) in the programming FET cycles were significantly higher than those in the natural FET cycles. The logistic regression analysis showed that, compared to the natural FET cycles, the programming FET cycles were associated with an elevated risk of pre-eclampsia (aOR, 2.55; 95% CI, 2.06-3.16) and postpartum hemorrhage (aOR, 2.94; 95% CI, 1.44-5.99). Conclusion The women with singleton delivery after frozen-thawed embryo transfer in the programming cycles had an elevated risk of pre-eclampsia and postpartum hemorrhage, which was speculated to be associated with the absence of the corpus luteum. Skin microbiome and skin physiological functions are known to change according to lifestyle and community; however, such changes in case of movement- and cleaning-restricted bedridden older patients have not yet been revealed. To address this issue, we analyzed skin microbiome and skin physiological functions, including pH, hydration, sebum level, and transepidermal water loss (TEWL), of bedridden older patients, compared with those of ambulatory older and young individuals. For this analysis, we enrolled 19 healthy young and 18 ambulatory older individuals from the community and 31 bedridden older patients from a single, long-term care hospital in Japan. The area of interest was set to the sacral (lower ****) skin, where pressure injuries (PIs) and subsequent infection frequently occurs in bedridden older patients. We observed a higher number of gut-related bacteria, fewer commensals, higher skin pH, and lower TEWL on the sacral skin of bedridden older patients than on that of young or ambulatory older individuals. In addition, we observed that 4 of the 31 bedridden older patients developed PIs during the research period; a higher abundance of pathogenic skin bacteria were also observed inside the PI wounds. These findings imply distinct skin microbiome and skin physiological functions in bedridden older patients in comparison with healthy individuals and may suggest the need for more stringent cleaning of the skin of bedridden older patients in light of the closeness of skin and wound microbiome. The spatial structures of most lncRNAs can be altered by distinct in vivo and in vitro cellular environments, as well as by DNA structural variations, such as single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and variants (SNVs). In the present study, we extended candidate SNPs that had linkage disequilibria with those significantly associated with lung diseases in genome-wide association studies in order to investigate potential disease mechanisms originating from SNP structural changes of host lncRNAs. Following accurate alignments, we recognized 115 ternary-relationship pairs among 41 SNPs, 10 lncRNA transcripts, and 1 type of lung disease (adenocarcinoma of the lung). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/pmx-53.html Then, we evaluated the structural heterogeneity induced by SNP alleles by developing a local-RNA-structure alignment algorithm and employing randomized strategies to determine the significance of structural variation. We identified four ternary-relationship pairs that were significantly associated with SNP-induced lncRNA allosteric effects.

The area of interest was set to the sacral (lower back) skin, where pressure injuries (PIs) and subsequent infection frequently occurs in bedridden older patients. We identified four ternary-relationship pairs that were significantly associated with SNP-induced lncRNA allosteric effects.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 29 Views 0 önizleme
