With ethics approval, four dogs (26 1.8 kg) were anesthetized and ventilated. Body-surface electrodes were placed and impedance data continuously acquired. WM devices (0-35% oversized) were introduced and placed into the LAA. During the study, the WM was either fully or partial deployed. At each deployment level, 10,mL of conductivity contrast was injected through the WM delivery sheath. At twenty-two deployment conditions, Doppler-flow TEE measurements were made, and compared to the DI-based value.
In all cases, CPB values correctly predicted the TEE-based assessment of PDL (100% sensitivity/specificity). The TEE leak size also corresponded to CPB values with a correlation of r=0.914 (p<0.001).
Using DI signals, the leak flow from the WM LAAO can be measured and yields comparative results to TEE for detection of PDL. The DI method requires no other imaging modality or ionizing radiation and iodine contrast agent injection.

In the present study, a photoplethysmographic(PPG) waveform analysis for assessing differences in autonomic reactivity to mental stress between patients with Major Depressive Disorder(MDD) and healthy control(HC) subjects is presented.
PPG recordings of 40MDD and 40HC subjects were acquired at basal conditions, during the execution of cognitive tasks, and at the post-task relaxation period. PPG pulses are decomposed into three waves (a main wave and two reflected waves) using a pulse decomposition analysis. Pulse waveform characteristics such as the time delay between the position of the main wave and reflected waves, the percentage of amplitude loss in the reflected waves, and the heart rate(HR) are calculated among others. The intra-subject difference of a feature value between two conditions is used as an index of autonomic reactivity.

Three human emotional states extracted from Twitter were analyzed using the nonlinear dynamics approach. The greatest positive Lyapunov exponent (LE) and 0-1 test methods were applied to a time series set consisting of over 25,000 data points reflecting the hourly recorded data of over 1.3 million tweets. The results suggest that the examined emotional time series data represent a nonlinear dynamical system with deterministic chaos properties. Therefore, by utilizing traditional linear methods of social media data analysis, one may not be able to fully understand and forecast critical transition trends over time or beyond a limited duration. It was concluded that the nonlinear dynamics approach is useful to determine a feasible forecasting horizon and to assess the prediction accuracy of social media data in general.Synchronization of autonomic arousal levels within dyads and larger teams has been associated with several types of social-behavioral outcome. To investigate the intracochlear position of the latest Cochlear Nucleus 532 electrode array compared with the straight Nucleus 522 and the precurved 512 arrays and determine the effect of the electrode-modiolus distance on electrically evoked compound action potential, C-levels, electrically evoked stapedius reflex thresholds (ESRTs), and impedances.
Postoperative high-resolution cone beam computational tomography images of 30 patients with Cochlear Nucleus 532, 522, and 512 implants were evaluated using the Comet (Cochlea Measurement Tool) program to determine the distance between the 22 individual electrode contacts and the medial wall. ESRTs were documented intraoperatively and electrophysiological as well as psychophysical parameters were measured at multiple time points including the first fitting after the initial activation.
The electrode-modiolus distance in perimodiolar arrays is uniformly small across the array, whereas in a straight electrode carrier it varies significantly along the length st that the correlations between electrode-modiolus distance and electrophysiological and psychophysical parameters are not sufficiently strong to adjust CI-fitting based on imaging data.
The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) without general anesthesia (GA) for infants being evaluated for sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) using the bundle and scan technique.

All infants who underwent MRI using the bundle and scan technique as part of the diagnostic workup for unilateral or bilateral SNHL between June 2016 to April 2019 were included.
The primary outcome was the proportion of clinically useful images produced.
We reviewed 21 bundle and scan MRI examinations in infants being evaluated for SNHL. Patients had a median age of 10 (range 6-25) weeks at the time of MRI. Motion artifact was noted in 38% (8/21) of cases. Eighty-six percent (18/21) of the magnetic resonance images produced using the bundle and scan technique were of diagnostic quality and/or sufficient for surgical planning for cochlear implantation. Repeat imaging with GA was required for three cases (14%) as the initial images were not clinically useful. All patients requiring GA had unilateral SNHL. All patients with bilateral SNHL successfully underwent MRI without GA using the bundle and scan technique.
The results of our study demonstrate that it is feasible to perform MRI using the bundle and scan technique in the majority of young infants being evaluated for SNHL. This has the potential to help determine cochlear implant candidacy earlier, reduce exposure to GA, and reduce healthcare costs.

A new active transcutaneous bone conduction hearing implant system that uses piezoelectric technology has been developed an active osseointegrated steady-state implant system (OSI). This was the first clinical investigation undertaken to demonstrate clinical performance, safety, and benefit of the new implant system.

Fifty-one adult subjects with mixed and conductive hearing loss (MHL/CHL, n = 37) and single-sided sensorineural deafness (SSD, n = 14) were included.
Audiological evaluations included audiometric thresholds, speech recognition in noise, and quiet. Hearing and health-related patient-reported outcomes (PROs; health utilities index [HUI], abbreviated profile of hearing aid benefit [APHAB], and speech, spatial of qualities of hearing scale [SSQ]), daily use, surgical and safety parameters were collected.
Intra- and postoperative complications were few. One implant was removed before activation due to post-surgical infection. Compared with the preoperative softband tests, a significant improvement in speech recognition-in-noise was observed in the MHL/CHL group (-7.3 dB, p ≤ 0.0001) and the SSD group (-8.1 dB, p = 0.0008). In quiet, word recognition improved in the MHL/CHL group, most markedly at lower intensity input of 50 dB SPL (26.7%, p ≤ 0.0001). The results of all PROs showed a significant improvement with the new device compared with preoperative softband in the MHL/CHL group. In the SSD group significant improvements were observed in the APHAB and SSQ questionnaires.

Existing studies have demonstrated that imaging parameters may affect radiomic features. However, the influence of feature calculating parameters has been overlooked. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of feature calculating parameters (gray-level range and bin size) on the reproducibility of CT radiomic features.
Thirty-six CT scans from an anthropomorphic thoracic phantom were acquired with different imaging parameters including effective dose, pitch, slice thicknesses and reconstruction kernels. The influence of feature calculating parameters was investigated in terms of three gray-level ranges and eleven gray-level bin sizes. Feature reproducibility was assessed by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) with the cutoff value of 0.8 and the coefficient of variation (CV) with the cutoff value of 20%. The agreements of reproducible features in different ranges and bin sizes were analyzed by Kendall's W test and Kappa test. The proportions of reproducible features, in terms of may have a greater influence than imaging parameters on the reproducibility of CT radiomic features, which should be given special attention in clinical applications.
Late-onset depression (LOD) is often difficult to recognize when there is an absence of a family history of depression and less severe psychopathology. Increasing evidence has shown that the development and course of LOD symptomatology are associated with cerebrovascular comorbidities and cerebral microvascular lesions. This study was designed to evaluate the associations of LOD with macrovascular and microvascular changes in the brain by using a multi-imaging method, including computed tomography angiography (CTA), CT perfusion (CTP), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), to explore the course and pathomechanism of LOD.
A total of 116 participants were divided into two groups. Participants older than 60 years who met the diagnostic criteria of depression [International Classification of Diseases (ICD), 10th Edition] were enrolled in the LOD group, and the remainder were age- and sex-matched into the control group. The cognitive/mood status of all participants was evaluated by an experienced neuropsycholo001); (III) and there was a significant difference in high WMH loads in deep white matter (DWM) between the two groups (P<0.05).

MRI acceleration using deep learning (DL) convolutional neural networks (CNNs) is a novel technique with great promise. Increasing the number of convolutional layers may allow for more accurate image reconstruction. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of feature calculating parameters (gray-level range and bin size) on the reproducibility of CT radiomic features. Thirty-six CT scans from an anthropomorphic thoracic phantom were acquired with different imaging parameters including effective dose, pitch, slice thicknesses and reconstruction kernels. The influence of feature calculating parameters was investigated in terms of three gray-level ranges and eleven gray-level bin sizes. Feature reproducibility was assessed by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) with the cutoff value of 0.8 and the coefficient of variation (CV) with the cutoff value of 20%. The agreements of reproducible features in different ranges and bin sizes were analyzed by Kendall's W test and Kappa test. The proportions of reproducible features, in terms of may have a greater influence than imaging parameters on the reproducibility of CT radiomic features, which should be given special attention in clinical applications. Late-onset depression (LOD) is often difficult to recognize when there is an absence of a family history of depression and less severe psychopathology. Increasing evidence has shown that the development and course of LOD symptomatology are associated with cerebrovascular comorbidities and cerebral microvascular lesions. This study was designed to evaluate the associations of LOD with macrovascular and microvascular changes in the brain by using a multi-imaging method, including computed tomography angiography (CTA), CT perfusion (CTP), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), to explore the course and pathomechanism of LOD. A total of 116 participants were divided into two groups. Participants older than 60 years who met the diagnostic criteria of depression [International Classification of Diseases (ICD), 10th Edition] were enrolled in the LOD group, and the remainder were age- and sex-matched into the control group. HS occurs in animals when heat gain from environment and metabolism surpasses heat loss by radiation, convection, evaporation and conduction. At the end of the experimental periods, SMSGs were excised and fixed for histological and ultrastructural examinations. Results SMSGs of the AFB1 group presented atrophied serous acini with numerous cytoplasmic vacuolations; their granular convoluted tubules, striated ducts and excretory ducts presented signs of degeneration in their cell lining with the presence of abundant cytoplasmic vacuolations. In addition, dilated blood vessels engorged with red blood cells were frequently seen. Ultrastructural findings of the AFB1 group showed some acinar cells with degenerated mitochondria presenting loss of cristae and vacuolations as well as irregular, shrunken nuclei with condensed chromatin. Dilated rough endoplasmic reticulum were observed in granular convoluted tubules and striated ducts. The glands of animals that received rosemary extract almost regained their normal architecture. We will conduct a scoping review of the distribution of serotypes and antimicrobial resistance of Streptococcus pneumoniae in children aged under 5 years in China since the introduction of PCV13. We will obtain data from PubMed, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang Med Online. We will also review epidemiological data from WHO and the China Antimicrobial Surveillance Network (CHINET). Our analysis will include the condition of interest, the intervention, and the geographical region. All types of studies will be eligible for inclusion in the study database if they meet the inclusion criteria. This scoping review is intended to outline how S. pneumoniae serotypes are distributed, and it will map their antimicrobial resistance in children aged under 5 years in China. The results of this study will provide useful information on the impact of PCV13 in China.Background HD systems are routinely used in laparoscopic surgery, 4K ultra HD monitors are mainly available within specialized, high-volume laparoscopic centers. Methods We performed a retrospective comparative analysis of intraoperative parameters and post-operative outcomes in a cohort of patients operated on for elective laparoscopic procedures for colo-rectal cancer during two different time frames 2017 procedures performed using the Visera Elite full HD technology (® Olympus America, Medical) and the 2018 procedures performed the Visera 4K Ultra HD System (® Olympus America, Medical). Results There was a statistically significant reduction in operative time in patients operated on with the 4K ultra HD technology compared to HD technology (p less then 0.05). Intraoperative blood loss was significantly reduced in patients operated in 2018 (p less then 0.05). There were no statistically significant differences in complication rate and postoperative outcomes between the two groups.

Literacy promotion is a pediatric standard of care in which clinicians provide guidance on shared reading. Latino parents are more likely to hear advice to read with children but are less likely to do so. We sought to understand literacy promotion from the perspective of Latino parents and to identify facilitators and barriers.
We purposively sampled Latino parents who participated in Reach Out and Read (ROR) for a qualitative, semistructured interview study. We identified themes using immersion/crystallization and achieved thematic saturation after 21 interviews.
Two thirds of participants had less than high school education; half of whom had not completed eighth grade. The mean child age was 16.4 months. Primary facilitators of engagement were advice from a pediatrician during a clinical encounter and receipt of the ROR book. Barriers identified included 1) parents' perceptions that their children were not developmentally ready and that their children's behavior (eg, activity) indicated they were not d work collaboratively with other stakeholders to address poverty-related stressors.
Prior work demonstrating that burnout is associated with decreased performance in medical trainees has relied on self-report and/or single-site studies. We explored the relationship between burnout status and Milestones-based scores in pediatric residents nationally.
In April to June 2016, we confidentially surveyed residents using the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Separately, programs submitted resident Milestones scores in June 2016. We examined the relationship between burnout and performance as assessed by Milestones scores for each domain of competence. We performed multivariate analysis to determine which components of burnout (depersonalization [DP], emotional exhaustion, and lack of personal accomplishment [PA]) were most impactful.
About 1494 of 2368 (63%) residents at 32 programs completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory and had Milestones scores submitted. Residents who scored positive for burnout scored lower in all Milestones domains. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that this association was onlye burnout improve PGY1 performance.
Pediatric health care institutions are increasingly implementing food insecurity (FI) screens, but there is limited information about participant interest in referral and engagement with resources provided.
In this descriptive cross-sectional study, we recruited participants from a consecutive sample of adult caregivers arriving with pediatric patients in the emergency department at an urban, freestanding children's hospital. Caregivers completed a validated, 2-question screen for FI. All participants received a list of food access resources. Direct referral to a partnered community food resource agency was offered to those who screened positive for FI; that agency completed a phone call to the participant for resource provision within 2 weeks.
Among the 1818 participants recruited, 20.6% (375) screened positive for FI, consistent with the area's reported child FI rate. Of those who screened positive, 54.9% (206) opted to receive a direct-referral via phone call to a food resource agency, and 35.9% (74)rest after contact.
Transforaminal percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (TPELD) has become an alternative and minimally invasive surgical technique for soft lumbar disc herniation. However, the learning curve has been relatively long and difficult. In the present study, we have summarized the characteristics of the learning curve of TPELD, including the number of cases required to achieve technical proficiency, and discussed the strategies to improve the learning curve.
The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and KoreaMed databases were searched for reports describing the learning curve for TPELD. Clinical studies involving human patients and evaluating the learning curve of TPELD with quantitative data were included. A strict quality assessment was completed, and descriptive statistics were calculated.
Of the 6884 screened titles and abstracts, 10 full-text reports, including 958 cases, were included in the analysis. All were cohort studies, which were grouped into early and late groups according to surgeon experience with TPELD. The most commonly used cutoff to differentiate between these groups was 20 (mean, 24.70 ± 18.99 cases; range, 10-72 cases). The most widely used measure was the operative time. Although most studies had reported better results in the operative time or pain scores in the late group, only 1 study had proposed a bona fide learning curve.
We found insufficient evidence to support a cutoff point of 20 or other numbers of cases for determining when the learning curve has reached a plateau. Therefore, these numbers should be interpreted with great care, and high-quality prospective studies evaluating the actual learning curve are required.

We examined the relationship between burnout and performance as assessed by Milestones scores for each domain of competence. We performed multivariate analysis to determine which components of burnout (depersonalization [DP], emotional exhaustion, and lack of personal accomplishment [PA]) were most impactful. About 1494 of 2368 (63%) residents at 32 programs completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory and had Milestones scores submitted. Residents who scored positive for burnout scored lower in all Milestones domains. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that this association was onlye burnout improve PGY1 performance. Pediatric health care institutions are increasingly implementing food insecurity (FI) screens, but there is limited information about participant interest in referral and engagement with resources provided. In this descriptive cross-sectional study, we recruited participants from a consecutive sample of adult caregivers arriving with pediatric patients in the emergency department at an urban, freestanding children's hospital. Caregivers completed a validated, 2-question screen for FI. All participants received a list of food access resources. Direct referral to a partnered community food resource agency was offered to those who screened positive for FI; that agency completed a phone call to the participant for resource provision within 2 weeks. Among the 1818 participants recruited, 20.6% (375) screened positive for FI, consistent with the area's reported child FI rate. Of those who screened positive, 54.9% (206) opted to receive a direct-referral via phone call to a food resource agency, and 35.9% (74)rest after contact. Transforaminal percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (TPELD) has become an alternative and minimally invasive surgical technique for soft lumbar disc herniation. However, the learning curve has been relatively long and difficult. In the present study, we have summarized the characteristics of the learning curve of TPELD, including the number of cases required to achieve technical proficiency, and discussed the strategies to improve the learning curve. The PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and KoreaMed databases were searched for reports describing the learning curve for TPELD. Clinical studies involving human patients and evaluating the learning curve of TPELD with quantitative data were included. A strict quality assessment was completed, and descriptive statistics were calculated. Of the 6884 screened titles and abstracts, 10 full-text reports, including 958 cases, were included in the analysis. All were cohort studies, which were grouped into early and late groups according to surgeon experience with TPELD. The most commonly used cutoff to differentiate between these groups was 20 (mean, 24.70 ± 18.99 cases; range, 10-72 cases). The most widely used measure was the operative time. Although most studies had reported better results in the operative time or pain scores in the late group, only 1 study had proposed a bona fide learning curve. We found insufficient evidence to support a cutoff point of 20 or other numbers of cases for determining when the learning curve has reached a plateau. Therefore, these numbers should be interpreted with great care, and high-quality prospective studies evaluating the actual learning curve are required. The eminent scientist Albert von Kölliker named a tubular-shaped piece of tissue found in the brains of all mammals studied to date, the tuberculum olfactorium - or what is commonly known as the olfactory tubercle (OT). The positive relationship is not a result of lumping together diverse taxa; it holds within all subgroups of organisms we examined as well. Correcting for differences in body mass weakens but does not reverse the positive relationship, so this is not an artifact of size scaling either. Instead, this positive relationship represents a slow-fast gradient in the "pace of life" that overrides the expected gleaner-exploiter trade-off. Other trade-offs must therefore shape ecological processes, and investigating them may provide deeper insights into coexistence, competitive dynamics, and biodiversity patterns in nature. Haloperidol, butyrophenone derivative, is a typical antipsychotic drug used in the treatment of schizophrenia, manic phase of bipolar disorder, and acute psychomotor agitations. According to the recent guidelines for therapeutic drug monitoring, it is strongly recommended to measure plasma level during the therapy with haloperidol. The objective of this study was to develop and validate a simple liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry-based method to quantitate haloperidol in human plasma. After one-step extraction procedure using OSTROTM plate, gradient elution on Acquity UPLC BEH C18 (50 × 2.1 mm, 1.7 μm) column over 3.2 min was performed. The detection was conducted on a triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometer by multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode in positive ionization mode with transitions at m/z 376.29 → 165.14 and m/z 380.28 → 169.17 for haloperidol and haloperidol-d4 (used as an internal standard), respectively. The method was fully validated to cover wide concentration range of 0.05-80 ng/mL in human plasma and meets the criteria for the selectivity, linearity and lower limit of detection, precision and accuracy, matrix effect, extraction recovery, carryover, dilution integrity and stability. The extraction recovery was nearly 100%, and no significant matrix effects were observed. When offspring did differ from their mother, they were likely to exhibit a loss of the genetic variation that was present in their mother. Finally, we found that mitochondrial variation did not vary significantly over plant development, indicating that substantial vegetative sorting did not occur. Our study is one of the first to quantitatively investigate inheritance patterns and heteroplasmy in plants using controlled crosses, and we look forward to future studies making use of whole genome information to study the complex evolutionary dynamics of plant organellar genomes.
Recent evolutionary psychological theory proposes that loneliness is an adaptive mechanism, designed to trigger maintenance and repair of social ties. No population representative analyses have probed loneliness effects on sociality. The present study addressed this gap.
Data were from the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 waves of the Health and Retirement Study, nationally representative of U.S. adults over age 50. Recently developed cross lagged models with fixed effects were used to test prospective within-person associations of loneliness with specific dimensions of sociality, taking into account reverse causality as well as all time invariant confounders with stable effects. Both gender-combined and -specific analyses were conducted.
Loneliness did not consistently predict overall sociality sparse linkages were found only among women. The same null pattern held with family ties. Non-family ties, in contrast, were associated with prior loneliness, but in a gender-specific way. Loneliness positively predicted women's social interactions with friends, but seemed linked to withdrawal from these relationships among men. There were indications that lonely men instead used religious attendance as a social outlet.
Loneliness seems to induce domain- and gender-specific sociality responses. Findings suggest implications for evolutionary models of sociality as well as for psychosocial and physical health. Pending replication in independent samples, inferences remain tentative.

More than half of young adults at risk for alcohol-related harm report symptoms of insomnia. Insomnia symptoms, in turn, have been associated with alcohol-related problems. Yet one of the first-line treatments for insomnia (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia or CBT-I) has not been tested among individuals who are actively drinking. This study tested (1) the feasibility and short-term efficacy of CBT-I among binge-drinking young adults with insomnia and (2) improvement in insomnia as a predictor of improvement in alcohol use outcomes.
Young adults (ages 18-30 years, 75% female, 73% college students) who met criteria for Insomnia Disorder and reported 1+ binge drinking episode (4/5+ drinks for women/men) in the past month were randomly assigned to 5 weekly sessions of CBT-I (n = 28) or single-session sleep hygiene (SH, n = 28). All participants wore wrist actigraphy and completed daily sleep surveys for 7+ days at baseline, posttreatment, and 1-month follow-up.
Of those randomized, 43 (77%) completed posttreatment (19 CBT-I, 24 SH) and 48 (86%) completed 1-month follow-up (23 CBT-I, 25 SH). CBT-I participants reported greater posttreatment decreases in insomnia severity than those in SH (56% vs. 32% reduction in symptoms). CBT-I did not have a direct effect on alcohol use outcomes; however, mediation models indicated that CBT-I influenced change in alcohol-related consequences indirectly through its influence on posttreatment insomnia severity.
CBT-I is a viable intervention among individuals who are actively drinking. Research examining improvement in insomnia as a mechanism for improvement in alcohol-related consequences is warranted.

Insomnia symptoms, in turn, have been associated with alcohol-related problems. Yet one of the first-line treatments for insomnia (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia or CBT-I) has not been tested among individuals who are actively drinking. This study tested (1) the feasibility and short-term efficacy of CBT-I among binge-drinking young adults with insomnia and (2) improvement in insomnia as a predictor of improvement in alcohol use outcomes. Young adults (ages 18-30 years, 75% female, 73% college students) who met criteria for Insomnia Disorder and reported 1+ binge drinking episode (4/5+ drinks for women/men) in the past month were randomly assigned to 5 weekly sessions of CBT-I (n = 28) or single-session sleep hygiene (SH, n = 28). All participants wore wrist actigraphy and completed daily sleep surveys for 7+ days at baseline, posttreatment, and 1-month follow-up. Of those randomized, 43 (77%) completed posttreatment (19 CBT-I, 24 SH) and 48 (86%) completed 1-month follow-up (23 CBT-I, 25 SH). CBT-I participants reported greater posttreatment decreases in insomnia severity than those in SH (56% vs. 32% reduction in symptoms). CBT-I did not have a direct effect on alcohol use outcomes; however, mediation models indicated that CBT-I influenced change in alcohol-related consequences indirectly through its influence on posttreatment insomnia severity. CBT-I is a viable intervention among individuals who are actively drinking. Research examining improvement in insomnia as a mechanism for improvement in alcohol-related consequences is warranted. The objective of this study was to determine risk factors for epilepsy and drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE) development in children with cerebral palsy.
Two hundred twenty-nine patients presenting to the pediatric neurology clinic and diagnosed as having cerebral palsy between November 2016 and November 2019 were included in the study. Medical histories and clinical, laboratory, and radiological findings were examined retrospectively from patient records in the hospital data system.
Girls represented 103 patients (45%) and boys 126 (55%). The patients' mean age was 8.39 ± 4.54 years. Epileptic seizures were present in 120 (52.4%) patients and drug-resistant seizures in 64 (27.9%). The risk of epilepsy was significantly higher in patients with motor or speech impairment, with hearing impairment, or undergoing first seizure in the neonatal period. We also observed a higher risk of epilepsy in patients with psychiatric comorbidity, particularly autism spectrum disorder. The risk of epilepsy was also higher inrebral palsy, and with additional psychiatric comorbidity. The rate of DRE development was very low in patients with normal EEG findings or with only background rhythm abnormalities on first EEGs during neonatal seizures. This may be regarded as a good prognostic factor for nondevelopment of DRE.

Primary caregivers completed standardized measures regarding participants' behavior, psychological status, adaptive functioning, and social skills, including their involvement with intervention services.
The cohort comprised 45 patients, aged 2-30 years. Intellectual functioning ranged from average intellect to profound intellectual disability, with a decrease in cognitive and adaptive functioning with age. Only 6 children were able to complete the entire neuropsychological battery and showed a range of cognitive profiles. Five of 6 participants scored within the average range on Affect Recognition and 5/6 on Motor Free Visual Perception tests. Twenty-one (58%) participants had deficits in sociaobal impairment while others have a discordant neuropsychological profile. Behavioral, psychological, social problems, and ASD are common. Social deficits should be reviewed to identify those who warrant ASD assessment. Deafblindness is a condition of combined vision and hearing loss that is extremely rare in children and young adults, as well as being a highly heterogeneous condition, with over 70 specific etiologies. Due to these features, sporadic clinical experiences have not been collated, which has hampered medical progress. Genetics plays a major role in the pathogenesis of deafblindness in children and young adults, with more than 50 hereditary syndromes and disorders associated with the condition, including CHARGE, Usher, Down, Stickler, and Dandy-Walker syndromes, which are the most common. Clinical diagnosis of deafblindness is often difficult, and a significant proportion of patients are undiagnosed. No curative therapy is currently available for the majority of patients with hereditary deafblindness; however, experimental studies using animal models have shown promising results by targeting specific genes that cause vision or hearing loss. In Japan, the Rare Disease Data Registry of Japan (RADDAR-J) has been established as a national registry of rare and intractable diseases. Diseases of deafblindness have been elected as a disease category in RADDAR-J. Currently, clinical and genomic data are being collected and analyzed using this system, with the aim of generating an overview of deafblindness to improve medical practice.
Nasal irrigation is an important step of functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) postoperative care. This study was performed to compare the effects of diluted baby shampoo (BS) and normal saline solution (NSS) irrigation on patients' quality of life (QoL) and surgical outcomes after FESS.
This study included 77 patients who underwent FESS to treat chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps. ****-Mackay score, ****-Kennedy endoscopic score (LKES), synechia score and QoL (using the Sinonasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22)) were evaluated.
LKES was significantly better in the BS group (p=0.001), especially in terms of nasal discharge and crust formation (p=0.024 and p=0.030, respectively) at 1 month postoperatively. However, no significant difference was found at 3, 6 or 12 months postoperatively (p=0.833, p=0.263, and p=0.346, respectively). The reduction of SNOT-22 score (between preoperative assessment and 1 month postoperatively) was significantly better in the BS than in the NSS group (p=0.025). However, no statistically significant differences were found between groups at 3, 6, or 12 months postoperatively (p=0.312, p=0.280, and p=0.285, respectively). In the evaluation of SNOT-22 subdomains, changes in psychological, rhinological and extranasal rhinological subdomains were significantly better in the BS group at 1 month postoperatively (p=0.019, p=0.010 and p=0.002, respectively).

Current interventions of dysphagia are not generalizable, and treatments are commonly used in combination. We conducted a questionnaire survey on nurses and speech therapists regarding dysphagia rehabilitation to understand the current situation in Japan.
The questionnaire was sent to 616 certified nurses in dysphasia nursing and 254 certified speech-language-hearing therapists for dysphagia. Based on "Summaries of training methods in 2014" by JSDR, 24 local indirect exercises, 11 general indirect exercises, and 13 direct exercises were selected. The Likert scale "How do you feel about each method" was used as follows A; Frequency, B; Ease, C; Adherence, D; Effectiveness (1-5))?".
Two hundred fifty (40%) nurses and 145 (57%) speech-language-hearing therapists (ST) responded to the questionnaire. The direct exercise was associated with a significantly high score in every question. In indirect exercises, "Cervical range of motion exercise," "Orofacial myofunctional exercise," "Lip closure exercise." "Ice massage of pharynx" and "Huffing" were used relatively frequently. "Balloon dilatation therapy" and "Tube exercise" was associated with a relatively high discrepancy for two questions. Frequency" and the sum of "Ease," "Adherence," and "Effectiveness." was significantly correlated for local indirect exercises (r2=0.928, P < 0.01), general indirect exercises (r2=0.987, P < 0.01), and direct exercises (r2=0.996, P < 0.01) (Fig. 5).

Since his cervical skin was very thin and hard and his general condition was poor, we employed modified Kano's method for glottic closure. Case 2 A 87-year old Japanese male had a past history of glottic cancer treated by radiotherapy and vertical partial laryngectomy. He was repeatedly hospitalized for severe aspiration pneumonia. At the age of 87, he had second primary oropharyngeal cancer. Kano's method was simultaneously performed at the time of resection of oropharyngeal cancer.

Increasing numbers of young people living with HIV (YPLWH) have unaddressed mental health challenges. Such challenges are associated with poor antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence and high mortality. Few evidence-based mental health interventions exist to improve HIV outcomes among YPLWH.
This pilot group treatment trial individually randomized YPLWH from two clinical sites in Tanzania, evaluated acceptability, feasibility, and preliminary effectiveness of a mental health intervention, Sauti ya Vijana (SYV; The Voice of Youth), was compared to the local standard-of-care (SOC) for improving ART adherence and virologic suppression. Enrolled YPLWH were 12-24 years of age and responded to mental health and stigma questionnaires, self-reported adherence, objective adherence measures (ART concentration in hair), and HIV RNA at baseline and 6-months (post-intervention). Feasibility and acceptability were evaluated, and potential effectiveness was assessed by comparing outcomes between arms using mixed effects towards improvement in ART adherence and virologic outcomes among YPLWH, supporting efforts to scale the intervention into a fully-powered effectiveness trial.

) in intrauterine resuscitation, the obstetric scientists' understanding of O
therapy is full of contradictions. We tested the hypothesis that higher maternal arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PO
) is associated with higher umbilical cord venous PO
(UvPO
).
This is a planned secondary analysis of a randomised controlled trial (RCT), 443 normal women were 11 randomly allocated to receive 2 L/min O
or room air from the onset of second stage to delivery. We reported that maternal 2 L/min O
exposure cannot affect the umbilical cord arterial pH or the fetal heart rate (FHR) pattern. In 217 non-random samples, we found 2 L/min O
exposure increased the maternal arterial PO
to the median 150 mmHg (hemoglobin would be saturated). The primary outcome for this analysis was UvPO
in these non-random samples.
There were no significant differences between the O
group (N = 107) and the control group (N = 110) in the UvPO
(median 30.2, interquartile 25.4-35.2 versus median 28.3, interquartile 23.4-35.3, mmHg, P = 0.379). There were also no significant differences between room air and different percentiles of O
exposure duration (< 25th, ≧ 25th < 50th, ≧ 50th < 75th, ≧ 75th percentile) in the UvPO
.

Non-photosynthetic plastids of plants are known to be involved in a range of metabolic and biosynthetic reactions, even if they have been difficult to study due to their small size and lack of color. The morphology of root plastids is heterogeneous and also the plastid size, density and subcellular distribution varies depending on the cell type and developmental stage, and therefore the functional features have remained obscure. Although the root plastid proteome is likely to reveal specific functional features, Arabidopsis thaliana root plastid proteome has not been studied to date.
In the present study, we separated Arabidopsis root protein fraction enriched with plastids and mitochondria by 2D-PAGE and identified 84 plastid-targeted and 77 mitochondrion-targeted proteins using LC-MS/MS. The most prevalent root plastid protein categories represented amino acid biosynthesis, carbohydrate metabolism and lipid biosynthesis pathways, while the enzymes involved in starch and sucrose metabolism were not detec role in a long-term storage of carbohydrates. The proteomic map provides a tool for further studies to compare changes in the proteome, e.g. in response to environmental cues, and emphasizes the role of root plastids in nitrogen and sulfur metabolism as well as in amino acid and fatty acid biosynthesis. The results enable taking a first step towards an integrated view of root plastid/mitochondrial proteome and metabolic functions in Arabidopsis thaliana roots.

A cross-sectional study including 233 participants (age 75-79) from three municipalities of Western Norway was conducted. Data were collected through preventive home visits performed by six nurses, using a questionnaire including self-rated health assessment and questions and tests related to demographics (e.g. education and housing), lifestyle (e.g. social activities, alcohol and smoking), health conditions (e.g. sensory impairment, pain and limited by disease) and medical diagnoses. Descriptive and inferential statistics including linear block-wise regression model were applied.
