  • The purpose was to compare time-based vs anti-Xa-based anticoagulation strategies in patients on ECMO. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis using multiple electronic databases and included studies from inception to July 19, 2019. The proportion of bleeding, thrombosis, and mortality were evaluated.Twenty-six studies (2,086 patients) were included. Bleeding occurred in 34.2% (95%CI 25.1;43.9) of the patients with anti-Xa-based versus 41.6% (95%CI 24.9;59.4) of the patients with time-based anticoagulation strategies. Thrombosis occurred in 32.6% (95%CI 19.1;47.7) of the patients with anti-Xa-based versus 38.4% (95%CI 22.2;56.1) of the patients with time-based anticoagulation strategies. And mortality rate was 35.4% (95%CI 28.9;42.1) of the patients with anti-Xa-based versus 42.9% (95%CI 36.9;48.9) of the patients with time-based anticoagulation strategies. Among the seven studies providing results from both anticoagulation strategies, significantly fewer bleeding events occurred in the anti-Xa-based anticoagulation strategy (adjusted OR 0.49 (95%CI 0.32;0.74), p  less then  0.001) and a significantly lower mortality rate (adjusted OR 0.61 (95%CI 0.40;0.95), p = 0.03). There was no significant difference in thrombotic events (adjusted OR 0.91 (95%CI 0.56;1.49), p = 0.71). Agrin (AGRN) is a proteoglycan involving in a large number of human cancers. However, how AGRN regulates the progression of rectal cancer remains largely unknown. We aimed to determine the biological role of AGRN and its mechanism in rectal cancer. AGRN expression in rectal cancer tissues was detected based on TCGA. The survival curve was plotted using the Kaplan-Meier method. qRT-PCR and western blot were utilized to examine the expression level of AGRN in cells. Cell proliferation, clonogenic ability, invasion, and migration of rectal cancer cells were analyzed by CCK-8, colony formation and transwell experiments. GSEA was employed for the analysis of the potential pathways-related with AGRN in rectal cancer. The activity of WNT pathway was determined by western blot. AGRN expression was dramatically increased in rectal cancer, and its up-regulation was associated with poorer prognosis of rectal cancer patients. AGRN inhibition suppressed rectal cancer cell growth, invasion, and migration, whereas AGRN overexpression facilitated these behaviors of rectal cancer cells in vitro. Mechanistically, WNT signaling pathway was enriched in high AGRN-expressing patients with rectal cancer. AGRN elevated the activity of WNT pathway through increasing Cyclin D1, C-Myc, p-GSK-3β, and p-β-catenin expression. Our present study indicated that AGRN might function as an oncogenic indicator in rectal cancer via activating the WNT pathway, which would help develop optimized therapeutic therapies for rectal cancer.The neurocognitive impairments associated with mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) often resolve within 1-2 weeks; however, a subset of people exhibit persistent cognitive dysfunction for weeks to months after injury. Early life stress (ELS) includes maltreatment such as neglect, and interferes with the normal construction of cortical and hippocampal circuits. We hypothesized that a history of ELS contributes to persistent learning and memory dysfunction following a TBI. To explore this interaction, we modeled ELS by separating Sprague Dawley pups from their nursing mothers from post-natal days 2-14 for 3 h daily. At 2 months of age, male rats received sham surgery or mild to moderate parasagittal fluid-percussion brain injury. We found that the combination of ELS with TBI in adulthood impaired hippocampal-dependent learning, as assessed with contextual fear conditioning, the water maze task, and spatial working memory. Cortical atrophy was significantly exacerbated in TBI animals exposed to ELS compared with normal-reared TBI animals. Changes in corticosterone in response to restraint stress were prolonged in TBI animals that received ELS compared with TBI animals that were normally reared or sham animals that received ELS. Our findings indicate that ELS is a risk factor for worsened outcome after TBI, and results in persistent learning and memory deficits, worsened cortical pathology, and an exacerbation of the hormonal stress response.Background The burden of cancer in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction is apparently growing. Methods and Results We assessed cancer, cardiovascular, and total mortality in phase 3 heart failure RCTs involving ≥90% individuals with left ventricular ejection fraction less then 45%, who were not acutely decompensated and did not represent specific patient subsets. The pooled odds ratios (ORs) of each type of death for the control and treatment arms were calculated using a random-effects model. Moreover, cancer mortality was not influenced by treatment (OR, 1.08; 95% CI, 0.92-1.28), unlike cardiovascular (OR, 0.88; 95% CI, 0.79-0.98) and all-cause (OR, 0.91; 95% CI, 0.84-0.99) mortality. Meta-regression did not reveal significant sources of heterogeneity. Possible reasons for excluding patients with malignancy overlapped among RCTs with and without published cancer mortality, and malignancy was an exclusion criterion only for 4 (8.7%) of the RCTs not reporting cancer mortality. Conclusions Cancer is a major, yet overlooked cause of noncardiovascular death in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, which has become more prominent with cardiovascular mortality decline.

  • Previous studies on changes in health policies theorize such changes either as crises responses, or as the outcome of longer-term stakeholder conflicts. In this paper, we propose that parliaments function as overlooked, intermediate actors that contribute to translating the interests of stakeholders into policy changes. We study the role of parliament connecting policy makers and stakeholders in the context of drug regulation. Based on three high-profile cases of drug withdrawals between 1991 and 2005 in the United Kingdom (triazolam, rofecoxib, and co-proxamol), we distinguish partisan-political, individual-idiosyncratic, and collective-institutional pathways of parliamentary action on drug withdrawals. Distinguishing direct and indirect actions, we argue that indirect courses of action, including advocacy and educational work, can be just as effective as regular legislative endeavours, under certain conditions.
    To compare rates of pediatric hospital utilization across seven European countries.

    Secondary data from WHO's European Hospital Morbidity Database from 2009 to 2012. Cross- country comparison of rates of admissions and bed days per 100 person-years by clinical service. We tabulated counts of admissions and bed days by principal diagnosis and age group for Ireland, Austria, Hungary, Belgium, Spain, Germany, and France. ICD 9 or ICD 10 or ISHMT diagnosis codes were allocated to clinical services. Normal newborn admissions were excluded from the analysis. Simple linear regression models, weighted by pediatric population size, were constructed to estimate the relationships between health care utilization and factors that may influence variation in care.

    Hospital admission across the seven countries ranged from 9.41 (Spain) to 19.59 (Germany) admissions per 100 person-years. Bed days ranged from a low of 52.50 (Spain) to 135.44 (Germany) per 100 person-years. General pediatrics and neonatology led in clinica associated with health care utilization. Out-of-pocket payment was inversely associated with health care utilization CONCLUSIONS A wide range of utilization of pediatric inpatient care was observed across seven European countries that have universal coverage. Variation in the provision of effective, supply-sensitive, and preference-sensitive care may explain some of the variations. Growth inhibited phenotypes were facilitated in hfq- conditions. Phage lysates were prepared from cells harboring phagemids as a lethal-agent delivery tool. Targeting the rpsM gene by phagemid-derived M13 phage infection of E. coli containing a carbapenem-producing F-plasmid and multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae containing an F-plasmid resulted in the death of over 99.99% of infected bacteria. This study provides a possible strategy for treating bacterial infection and can be applied to any F-pilus producing bacterial species.To meet its high energy demands, the brain mostly utilizes glucose. Positron emission tomography and magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies have identified glucose metabolism abnormalities in aging, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other NDDs in vivo. Despite glucose hypometabolism, brain cells can utilize ketones efficiently, thereby providing a rationale for the development of therapeutic ketogenic interventions in AD and other NDDs. This review compares available ketogenic interventions and discusses the potential of the potent oral Ketone Ester for future therapeutic use in AD and other NDDs characterized by inefficient glucose utilization.

  • Finally, the choice of surgical method, whether open surgery or minimally invasive procedures, is critical in determining how many colleagues are exposed to the risk of infection from COVID-19 patients, sometimes for hours. Here, robot-assisted surgery can comply with the pandemic's requirement to "keep your distance" in a unique way, since the surgeon can operate at virtually any distance from the surgical site, at least with regard to aerosol formation and exposure.We describe herein the case of a 3-week-old baby with persistent nonbilious vomiting, due to a hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (HPS) associated with a congenital pyloric mucosal diaphragm. So far, an association between the two conditions has not been described. The diagnosis of a pyloric mucosal diaphragm was delayed because of its cooccurrence with HPS.Ectopic cerebellar tissue has only been described in isolated case reports, with only two reported cases in adult patients. We report the case of a 63-year-old woman with progressive, medically refractory headaches. A scan showed an intraosseous lesion of the midline occipital bone. Surgical resection of the soft tissue lesion was undertaken. Her headaches ceased postoperatively. Histopathological analysis revealed cerebellar cortical tissue with a surrounding meningothelial cell layer, characteristic of cerebellar ectopia. This is the second reported case of an intraosseous location of this lesion, and only the third case described in an adult patient. This was a prospective observational study in San Bernardino, Riverside and Stanislaus counties. Patients were included if they were > 15 years of age with complaints of traumatic or burn-related pain. Patients were excluded if they received opiates up to six hours prior to or concurrently with ketamine administration. The dose administered was 0.3 mg/kg intravenously over five minutes with a maximum dose of 30 mg. Finally, the group was asked to dig into social media for a current event that grabbed their attention in relation to this subject and write a short paragraph beyond the details. This scenario was repeated weekly using different student groups. The students' opinion was collected before the conduction of the course and the end of the semester. Results The post-course questionnaire showed good improvement in the students' ability to communicate effectively, conduct independent work, participate in active discussion, and solve problems. Overall, the students' satisfaction was significantly elevated. Conclusions We have promoted a method to engage undergraduate students in linking biochemistry theories with real-life situations instead of just memorizing them. The new method improves the students' perception of biochemistry courses. The management of this complication included the unique application of negative pressure wound vacuum therapy via retroperitoneal drains. This assisted the closure of the duodenal fistula, prevented surgical reintervention, helped control intra-abdominal sepsis, and simplified local wound care. Application of closed incision negative pressure therapy to the retroperitoneal space via surgical drains is a technically easy and well-tolerated modality that accelerates duodenal fistula closure.

So far, an association between the two conditions has not been described. The diagnosis of a pyloric mucosal diaphragm was delayed because of its cooccurrence with HPS.Ectopic cerebellar tissue has only been described in isolated case reports, with only two reported cases in adult patients. We report the case of a 63-year-old woman with progressive, medically refractory headaches. A scan showed an intraosseous lesion of the midline occipital bone. Surgical resection of the soft tissue lesion was undertaken. Her headaches ceased postoperatively. Histopathological analysis revealed cerebellar cortical tissue with a surrounding meningothelial cell layer, characteristic of cerebellar ectopia. This is the second reported case of an intraosseous location of this lesion, and only the third case described in an adult patient.   • Despite mounting evidence for the role of inflammation in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), in vivo preclinical investigations of inflammation-induced negative affect using whole brain imaging modalities are scarce, precluding a valid model within which to evaluate pharmacological interventions. Here we used an E. coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-based model of inflammation-induced depressive signs in rats to explore brain changes using multimodal neuroimaging methods. During the acute phase of the LPS response (2 h post injection), prior to the emergence of a task-quantifiable depressive phenotype, striatal glutamine levels and splenial, retrosplenial, and peri-callosal hippocampal cortex volumes were greater than at baseline. LPS-induced depressive behaviors observed at 24 h, however, occurred concurrently with lower than control levels of striatal glutamine and a reversibility of volume expansion (i.e., shrinkage of splenial, retrosplenial, and peri-callosal hippocampal cortex to baseline volumes). In both striatum and hippocampus at 24 h, mRNA expression in LPS relative to control animals demonstrated alterations in enzymes and transporters regulating glutamine homeostasis. Herein, we report high-performance antibiotics (as bioprobes) conjugated graphene micropattern field-effect transistors (ABX-GMFETs) to facilitate on-site Gram-typing and help in the detection of the presence or absence of Gram-negative and -positive bacteria in the samples. The ABX-GMFET platform, which consists of recognition probes and GM transistors conjugated with novel interfacing chemical compounds, was integrated into the microfluidics to minimize the required human intervention and facilitate automation. The mechanism of binding of ABX-GMFET was based on a charge or chemical moiety interaction between the bioprobes and target bacteria. Subsequently, ABX-GMFETs exhibited unprecedented high sensitivity with a limit of detection (LOD) of 100 CFU/mL (1-9 CFU/mL), real-time target specificity.
    The aim of the study was to determine whether corticospinal excitability and inhibition of the tibialis anterior during single-leg standing differs among individuals with chronic ankle instability (CAI), lateral ankle sprain copers, and healthy controls.

    Twenty-three participants with CAI, 23 lateral ankle sprain copers, and 24 healthy control participants volunteered. Active motor threshold (AMT), normalized motor-evoked potential (MEP), and cortical silent period (CSP) were evaluated by transcranial magnetic stimulation while participants performed a single-leg standing task.

    Despite mounting evidence for the role of inflammation in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), in vivo preclinical investigations of inflammation-induced negative affect using whole brain imaging modalities are scarce, precluding a valid model within which to evaluate pharmacological interventions. Here we used an E. coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-based model of inflammation-induced depressive signs in rats to explore brain changes using multimodal neuroimaging methods. During the acute phase of the LPS response (2 h post injection), prior to the emergence of a task-quantifiable depressive phenotype, striatal glutamine levels and splenial, retrosplenial, and peri-callosal hippocampal cortex volumes were greater than at baseline. LPS-induced depressive behaviors observed at 24 h, however, occurred concurrently with lower than control levels of striatal glutamine and a reversibility of volume expansion (i.e., shrinkage of splenial, retrosplenial, and peri-callosal hippocampal cortex to baseline volumes). In both striatum and hippocampus at 24 h, mRNA expression in LPS relative to control animals demonstrated alterations in enzymes and transporters regulating glutamine homeostasis. The ABX-GMFET platform, which consists of recognition probes and GM transistors conjugated with novel interfacing chemical compounds, was integrated into the microfluidics to minimize the required human intervention and facilitate automation. The mechanism of binding of ABX-GMFET was based on a charge or chemical moiety interaction between the bioprobes and target bacteria. Subsequently, ABX-GMFETs exhibited unprecedented high sensitivity with a limit of detection (LOD) of 100 CFU/mL (1-9 CFU/mL), real-time target specificity. The aim of the study was to determine whether corticospinal excitability and inhibition of the tibialis anterior during single-leg standing differs among individuals with chronic ankle instability (CAI), lateral ankle sprain copers, and healthy controls. To improve its lipid production from xylose, we applied response surface methodology (RSM) with a face-centered central composite design (CCF). We evaluated the effects of agitation rate, initial cell biomass (OD600), carbon/nitrogen ratio (C/N ratio) and pH on lipid production. P. laurentii UFV-1 recorded the highest lipid content, 63.5% (w/w) of the cell dry mass, under the following conditions C/N ratio = 1001, pH value = 7.0, initial OD600 = 0.8 and agitation = 300 rpm. Under these optimized conditions, biomass, lipid titer and volumetric lipid productivity were 9.31 g/L, 5.90 g/L and 0.082 g/L.h, respectively. A further interaction between the head orientation of the faces and their gender revealed that front-facing females, relative to front-facing males, were attributed higher social-warmth scores, or communal traits (e.g., valence, warmth). These results carry implications for the representation of people in space particularly in marketing and political contexts. Animal models are widely used to understand MDD etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment, but the efficacy of this research for patients has barely been systematically evaluated. Such evaluation is important given the resource consumption and ethical concerns incurred by animal use. We used the citation tracking facilities within Web of Science and Scopus to locate citations of original research papers on rats related to MDD published prior to 2013-to allow adequate time for citations-identified in PubMed and Scopus by relevant search terms. Resulting citations were thematically coded in eight categories, and descriptive statistics were calculated. 178 publications describing relevant rat studies were identified. They were cited 8,712 times. More than half (4,633) of their citations were by other animal studies. 794 (less than 10%) were by human medical papers. Citation analysis indicates that rat model research has contributed very little to the contemporary clinical understanding of MDD. This suggests a misuse of limited funding hence supporting a change in allocation of research and development funds targeting this disorder to maximise benefits for patients.The quasi-experimental study reported in this paper investigated whether contracting students' speaking in the foreign language (FL) classroom could effectively mitigate their FL classroom anxiety. A group of PWAD (N = 10) was recruited from the Memory Clinic of Don Gnocchi Foundation to take part in the ACE-t. A historical control group that followed a usual care program (N = 10) was used for comparison. We considered both feasibility output (adherence and acceptability) and efficacy outcome measures (neuropsychological and neurobehavioral scales). We observed a good adherence to and acceptability of the ACE-t. The following significant intervention-related changes were also observed in ACE-t with respect to usual care improvement in general cognition, as assessed with the Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive, amelioration in language, and in executive functions, and reduction in Neuropsychiatric Inventory Scale score. In conclusion, ACE-t could be considered as a suitable intervention for the rehabilitation of PWAD, with positive effects on the cognitive and the behavioral status. We collected data from 1019 children and young people in France aged 9-17 in the context of the EU Kids online survey. Sampling was performed building a random-probability nationally representative sample of households with children using the Internet. Participants completed a questionnaire online by computer-assisted self-interviewing (CASI). Structural equation model reveals that (1) cybervictimization is related to lower well-being, such as anxiety and low self-esteem, as well as lower social competence, such as impulsivity and deviant behaviors, and that (2) all dimensions of (non)well-being and social (in)competence are related to each other.

Such evaluation is important given the resource consumption and ethical concerns incurred by animal use. We used the citation tracking facilities within Web of Science and Scopus to locate citations of original research papers on rats related to MDD published prior to 2013-to allow adequate time for citations-identified in PubMed and Scopus by relevant search terms. Resulting citations were thematically coded in eight categories, and descriptive statistics were calculated. 178 publications describing relevant rat studies were identified. They were cited 8,712 times. More than half (4,633) of their citations were by other animal studies. 794 (less than 10%) were by human medical papers. Citation analysis indicates that rat model research has contributed very little to the contemporary clinical understanding of MDD. The main aim of this quasi-experimental study was to test the feasibility and the likely efficacy of a novel multi-dimensional visual art intervention for people with Alzheimer's disease (PWAD), named Art, Colors, and Emotions treatment (ACE-t). A group of PWAD (N = 10) was recruited from the Memory Clinic of Don Gnocchi Foundation to take part in the ACE-t. A historical control group that followed a usual care program (N = 10) was used for comparison. We considered both feasibility output (adherence and acceptability) and efficacy outcome measures (neuropsychological and neurobehavioral scales). We observed a good adherence to and acceptability of the ACE-t. The following significant intervention-related changes were also observed in ACE-t with respect to usual care improvement in general cognition, as assessed with the Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive, amelioration in language, and in executive functions, and reduction in Neuropsychiatric Inventory Scale score. In conclusion, ACE-t could be considered as a suitable intervention for the rehabilitation of PWAD, with positive effects on the cognitive and the behavioral status. We collected data from 1019 children and young people in France aged 9-17 in the context of the EU Kids online survey. Sampling was performed building a random-probability nationally representative sample of households with children using the Internet. Participants completed a questionnaire online by computer-assisted self-interviewing (CASI). Structural equation model reveals that (1) cybervictimization is related to lower well-being, such as anxiety and low self-esteem, as well as lower social competence, such as impulsivity and deviant behaviors, and that (2) all dimensions of (non)well-being and social (in)competence are related to each other.

The obtained results showed that the maternal level of stress, anxiety and postnatal depressive symptoms are significantly correlated with the maternal-infant bond in Polish mothers. In addition, regression analysis shows that postpartum depressive symptoms and maternal stress are significantly associated with the maternal-infant bonding process in the early postpartum period.   • Rehabilitation requires repetitive and coordinated movements for effective treatment, which are contingent on patient compliance and motivation. However, the monotony, intensity, and expense of most therapy routines do not promote engagement. Gesture-controlled rehabilitation has the potential to quantify performance and provide engaging, cost-effective treatment, leading to better compliance and mobility. We present the design and testing of a gesture-controlled rehabilitation robot (GC-Rebot) to assess its potential for monitoring user performance and providing entertainment while conducting physical therapy. Healthy participants (n = 11) completed a maze with GC-Rebot for six trials. User performance was evaluated through quantitative metrics of movement quality and quantity, and participants rated the system usability with a validated survey. For participants with self-reported video-game experience (n = 10), wrist active range of motion across trials (mean ± standard deviation) was 41.6 ± 13° and 76.8 ± 16° for pitch and roll, respectively. In the course of conducting a single trial with a time duration of 68.3 ± 19 s, these participants performed 27 ± 8 full wrist motion repetitions (i.e., flexion/extension), with a dose-rate of 24.2 ± 5 reps/min. These participants also rated system usability as excellent (score 86.3 ± 12). Gesture-controlled therapy using the GC-Rebot demonstrated the potential to be an evidence-based rehabilitation tool based on excellent user ratings and the ability to monitor at-home compliance and performance.Background and Objectives Fenofibrate, a PPAR-α agonist, has been demonstrated to reduce the progression of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and the need for laser treatment in a FIELD (Fenofibrate Intervention and Event Lowering in Diabetes) study. Results With a follow-up period of 6.8 ± 1.5 years and 5.4 ± 2.6 years for 2500 fenofibrate users and 29,753 non-users, respectively, the Cox proportional hazard regression analysis revealed that the hazard ratio (HR) of new onset retinopathy was 0.57 (95% CI 0.57-0.62, p less then 0.001). After adjusting for hypertension; the Charlson comorbidity index (CCI); and medications such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE-I), angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB), anticoagulants, gemfibrozil, statins, and hypoglycemic agents, the adjusted HR was 0.75 (95% CI 0.68-0.82, p less then 0.001). The need for laser treatment has an HR and adjusted HR of 0.59 (95% CI 0.49-0.71, p less then 0.001) and 0.67 (95% CI 0.56-0.81, p less then 0.001), respectively. Conclusion Our study showed that the long-term and regular use of fenofibrate may decrease the risk of incident retinopathy and the need for laser treatment in type 2 diabetic patients. The protein adsorption equilibrium and kinetics showed significant dependence on silica pore size. For instance, LYS adsorption uptake on MCF-6.4 support (pore diameter 6.4 nm) was about 0.29 g/g. The equilibrium loading amount of LYS on MCF-14.5 material (pore size 14.5 nm) increased to 0.55 g/g. However, when the pore diameter was larger than 14.5 nm, the LYS adsorption value systematically decreased with increasing pore size (e.g., for MCF-30.1 was only 0.27 g/g). The electrostatic attractive interactions between the positively charged lysozyme (at pH = 7.4) and the negatively charged silica played a significant role in the immobilization process. The differences in protein adsorption and surface morphology for the biocomposites of various pore sizes were found. The thermal behavior of the studied bio/systems was conducted by TG/DSC/FTIR/MS coupled method. However, the existing techniques and methodologies for DTP still face challenges, such as a lack of appropriate degradation indicators, insufficient accuracy, and poor capability to track the data fluctuation. In this paper, a hybrid model is proposed for the degradation tendency prediction of a PSU, which combines the integrated degradation index (IDI) construction and convolutional neural network-long short-term memory (CNN-LSTM). Firstly, the health model of a PSU is constructed with Gaussian process regression (GPR) and the condition parameters of active power, working head, and guide vane opening. Subsequently, for comprehensively quantifying the degradation level of PSU, an IDI is developed using entropy weight (EW) theory. Finally, combining the local feature extraction of the CNN with the time series representation of LSTM, the CNN-LSTM model is constructed to realize DTP. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed model, the monitoring data collected from a PSU in China is taken as case studies.

It was found that the thermal degradation of lysozyme/silica composites was a double-stage process in the temperature range 165-420-830 °C.DNA, the fundamental genetic polymer of all living organisms on Earth, can be chemically modified to embrace novel functions that do not exist in nature. The key chemical and structural parameters for genetic information storage, heredity, and evolution have been elucidated, and many xenobiotic nucleic acids (XNAs) with non-canonical structures are developed as alternative genetic materials in vitro. However, it is still particularly challenging to replace DNAs with XNAs in living cells. This review outlines some recent studies in which the storage and propagation of genetic information are achieved in vivo by expanding genetic systems with XNAs.Accurate degradation tendency prediction (DTP) is vital for the secure operation of a pumped storage unit (PSU). However, the existing techniques and methodologies for DTP still face challenges, such as a lack of appropriate degradation indicators, insufficient accuracy, and poor capability to track the data fluctuation. In this paper, a hybrid model is proposed for the degradation tendency prediction of a PSU, which combines the integrated degradation index (IDI) construction and convolutional neural network-long short-term memory (CNN-LSTM). Firstly, the health model of a PSU is constructed with Gaussian process regression (GPR) and the condition parameters of active power, working head, and guide vane opening. Subsequently, for comprehensively quantifying the degradation level of PSU, an IDI is developed using entropy weight (EW) theory. Finally, combining the local feature extraction of the CNN with the time series representation of LSTM, the CNN-LSTM model is constructed to realize DTP. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed model, the monitoring data collected from a PSU in China is taken as case studies.
