Urban Aedes mosquitoes are vectors of many viruses affecting human health such as dengue, chikungunya and Zika viruses. Insecticide resistance and environmental toxicity risks hamper the effectiveness of chemical control against these mosquito vectors. Alternative control methods, such as the use of mosquito-specific entomopathogenic viruses should be explored. Numerous studies have focused on evaluating the potential of different densoviruses species as biological control agents. However, knowledge on the extent of inter- and intra-specific variations in the susceptibility of Aedes mosquitoes to infection by different densoviruses remains insufficient. In this study, we compared infection and mortality rates induced by the Aedes albopictus densovirus 2 in different strains of Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The two Aedes species were different in terms of susceptibility to viral infection. Under laboratory conditions, Aedes albopictus densovirus 2 appeared more virulent for the different strains of Aedes aegypti tested than for those of Aedes albopictus. In addition, we also found significant intra-specific variation in infection and mortality rates. Crucially, the subregion showing the highest reward-related asymmetry (RRA) overlapped with the region showing the highest functional connectivity asymmetry (FCA). Furthermore, the two types of asymmetries were found to be significantly correlated across individuals. In both species, the right lateral OFC was more connected to the default mode network compared to the left lateral OFC. Since chronic cough has common neurobiological mechanisms and pathophysiology with chronic pain, both clinical disorders might be interrelated. Hence, we examined the association between chronic cough and chronic pain in adult subjects in the Rotterdam Study, a large prospective population-based cohort study.
Using a standardised questionnaire, chronic pain was defined as pain lasting up to 6 months and grouped into a frequency of weekly/monthly or daily pain. Chronic cough was described as daily coughing for at least 3 months duration. The longitudinal and cross-sectional associations were investigated bi-directionally.
Of 7141 subjects in the study, 54% (n=3888) reported chronic pain at baseline. The co-prevalence of daily chronic pain and chronic cough was 4.4%. Chronic cough was more prevalent in subjects with daily and weekly/monthly chronic pain compared with those without chronic pain (13.8% and 10.3%
8.2%, p<0.001). After adjustment for potential confounders, prevalent chronic pain was significantly associated with incident chronic cough (OR 1.47, 95% CI 1.08-1.99). The association remained significant in subjects with daily chronic pain (OR 1.49, 95% CI 1.06-2.11) with a similar effect estimate, albeit non-significant, in those with weekly/monthly chronic pain (OR 1.43, 95% CI 0.98-2.10). After adjustment for covariables, subjects with chronic cough had a significant risk of developing chronic pain (OR 1.63, 95% CI 1.02-2.62) compared with those without chronic cough.

Urate transporters, which are located in the kidneys, significantly affect the level of uric acid in the body. We looked at genetic variants of genes encoding the major reabsorption proteins GLUT9 (SLC2A9) and URAT1 (SLC22A12) and their association with hyperuricemia and gout. In a cohort of 250 individuals with primary hyperuricemia and gout, we used direct sequencing to examine the SLC22A12 and SLC2A9 genes. Identified variants were evaluated in relation to clinical data, biochemical parameters, metabolic syndrome criteria, and our previous analysis of the major secretory urate transporter ABCG2. We detected seven nonsynonymous variants of SLC2A9. There were no nonsynonymous variants of SLC22A12. Eleven variants of SLC2A9 and two variants of SLC22A12 were significantly more common in our cohort than in the European population (p = 0), while variants p.V282I and c.1002+78A>G had a low frequency in our cohort (p = 0). Since the association between variants and the level of uric acid was not demonstrated, the influence of variants on the development of hyperuricemia and gout should be evaluated with caution. However, consistent with the findings of other studies, our data suggest that p.V282I and c.1002+78A>G (SLC2A9) reduce the risk of gout, while p.N82N (SLC22A12) increases the risk.As regards ovarian cancer, the use of minimally invasive surgery has steadily increased over the years. The main objective of this meta-analysis was to compare the three and five-year mortality of patients operated by minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for ovarian cancer to those operated by conventional open surgery (OPS), as well as their respective perioperative outcomes. PubMed, Cochrane library and CinicalTrials.gov were systematically searched, using the terms laparoscopy, laparoscopic or minimally invasive in combination with ovarian cancer or ovarian carcinoma. We finally included 19 observational studies with a total of 7213 patients. We found no statistically significant difference for five-year (relative risk (RR) = 0.89, 95% CI 0.53-1.49, p = 0.62)) and three-year mortality (RR = 0.95, 95% CI 0.80-1.12, p = 0.52) between the patients undergoing MIS and those operated by OPS. When five and three-year recurrences were analyzed, no statistically significant differences were also observed. Analysis in early and advanced stages subgroups showed no significant difference for survival outcomes, suggesting oncological safety of MIS in all stages. Whether the surgery was primary or interval debulking surgery in advanced ovarian cancer, did not influence the comparative results on mortality or recurrence. Although the available studies are retrospective, and mostly carry a high risk for bias and confounding, an overwhelming consistency of the evidence suggests the likely effectiveness of MIS in selected cases of ovarian cancer, even in advanced stages. This study was carried out in a sample of 1160 adults and produced a 10-item instrument with good reliability and validity indices. It is an effective tool useful in research and in clinical practice. Calculation tables are provided for the general Spanish population and by sex to evaluate adaptability to change. The two-dimensional structure proposed in the original model was confirmed. This instrument will enable the needs for adaptation to the new reality associated with COVID-19 to be detected and also other situations in which the subject becomes immersed which demand adaptation strategies in the new situation lived in.

Using control and pinealectomized rats, we investigated the daily expression profile of Actb, Hprt-1, B2m, and Rpl37a, genes that are commonly used as reference genes for reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), in epididymal (EP), retroperitoneal (RP), and subcutaneous (SC) adipose tissues. In control rats, Actb expression presented a daily oscillation in all adipose tissues investigated, Hprt-1 showed 24-h fluctuations in only RP and SC depots, B2m was stable over 24 h for EP and RP but oscillated over 24 h in SC adipose tissue, and Rpl37a presented a daily oscillation in only RP fat. In the absence of melatonin, the rhythmicity of Actb in all adipose depots was abolished, the daily rhythmicity of Hprt-1 and B2m was disrupted in SC fat, the peak expression of Rpl37a and Hprt-1 was delayed, and the amplitude of Rpl37a was reduced in RP adipose tissue. Collectively, our results demonstrate that the expression of putative reference genes displays a daily rhythm influenced by melatonin levels in a manner specific to the adipose depot. Techniques from expanded grounded theory-guided data analysis allowed for a constant comparative approach to contextualise data and identify emergent themes.
Three themes emerged (1) attitudes and barriers towards CVMs; (2) gender-specific purchasing influences and behaviours; and (3) CVM improvement and promotion. Women and men described varied concerns surrounding CVM purchasing, illuminating reasons for hesitancy. Focussing on CVM quality and improving product offerings were suggested by participants to increase use.

In control rats, Actb expression presented a daily oscillation in all adipose tissues investigated, Hprt-1 showed 24-h fluctuations in only RP and SC depots, B2m was stable over 24 h for EP and RP but oscillated over 24 h in SC adipose tissue, and Rpl37a presented a daily oscillation in only RP fat. In the absence of melatonin, the rhythmicity of Actb in all adipose depots was abolished, the daily rhythmicity of Hprt-1 and B2m was disrupted in SC fat, the peak expression of Rpl37a and Hprt-1 was delayed, and the amplitude of Rpl37a was reduced in RP adipose tissue. Functional outcome of macular hole (MH) surgery can be better assessed with multifocal electroretinogram (mfERG) and microperimetry (MP). It might provide better assessment than the Snellen visual acuity alone.

A prospective study was done in patients with unilateral,idiopathic full thickness MH. Standard surgery with vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane peeling and gas tamponade was done. Snellen and logMAR visual acuity, mfERG, microperimetry and optical coherence tomography were done pre and postoperatively.
Twenty six patients with unilateral macular hole and twenty five age matched controls were included. The mean age of patients was 59.92±9.39 years (range 40 to 74 years). All the holes were closed after surgery (two required second surgery). The mean visual acuity improved from 0.77±0.34 logMAR to 0.43±0.36 (p =0.03). The mfERG amplitudes differed ring wise, but the average amplitude changed from 26.31±8.82 to 20.52±7.11 (p =0.03). The mean retinal sensitivity changed from 12.98±2.59 to 13.42±2.53 (p =0.11). There was significant correlation between visual acuity and mfERG amplitudes and retinal sensitivity. Regression equations to predict visual outcome could be derived.

The vast majority of studies on genetic susceptibility to age-dependent diseases are carried out using the case-control study design. However, its use involves a number of difficulties, most of which arise when establishing the control group of relatively healthy individuals. In this work, survival functions were analyzed for carriers of alternative polymorphic variants of 18 genes that had been tested for association with MI using the case-control approach in our previous study, and the magnitude of the shift in the age of the disease onset depending on individual variations of the genome was estimated. The following risk variants were associated with the age of MI rs2430561*A of IFNG (HR = 1.3, P = 0.043), rs1799889*5 of PAI-1 (HR = 1.3, P = 0.039), rs1800896*GG of IL10 (HR = 1.5, P = 0.0048), rs1800471*C of TGFB1 (HR = 1.5, P = 0.043), and rs11614913*TT of MIR196A2 (HR = 1.5, P = 0.035). In carriers of these variants, the disease developed 3-6 years earlier than in carriers of alternative variants. The results of this study were compared with data on the associations with MI previously obtained on the same sample using the case-control approach. It turned out that the estimates based on the two methods mostly disagreed. However, the age-dependent approach relies on fewer assumptions that can be additionally verified. To implement this approach, it is necessary to clarify the role of Cys residues in the functioning of the native protein and the possible consequences of their modification. Both SAFBs are expressed at high levels in the brain. However, the distributions of SAFB1 and SAFB2 have yet to be characterized in detail and it is unclear whether both proteins interact with ERα in the brain. In this study, we investigated the expression and distribution of both SAFBs and their interaction with ERα in adult male rat brain. Immunohistochemical staining showed that SAFB1 and SAFB2 have a similar distribution pattern and are widely expressed throughout the brain. Double-fluorescence immunohistochemical and immunocytochemical analyses in primary cultures showed that the two SAFB proteins are localized in nuclei of neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes. Of note, SAFB2 was also found in cytoplasmic regions in these cell lineages. Both SAFB proteins were also expressed in ERα-positive cells in the medial preoptic area (MPOA) and arcuate and ventromedial hypothalamic nuclei. Co-immunoprecipitation experiments revealed that both SAFB proteins from the MPOA reciprocally interact with endogenous ERα. These results indicate that, in addition to a role in basal cellular function in the brain, the SAFB proteins may serve as ERα corepressors in hormone-sensitive regions.OBJECTIVES The current results show that lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and erectile dysfunction (ED) are co-prevalent conditions. The objective of this study was to determine which LUTS among seven items on the International Prostate Symptom Scores (IPSS) were related to ED in the general population. METHODS The Korean Internet Sexuality Survey was performed in 2006 and 2016. We sent emails and surveyed the panelists registered at an Internet survey agency. The inclusion criteria were sexually active men aged between 20 and 69. The IIEF-5 and total IPSS scores showed significant negative relationships (r = - 0.251, p less then 0.001). Among the seven IPSS items, IPSS 5 (weak stream, r = - 0.243, p less then 0.001) was most strongly correlated with the IIEF-5 scores. On multivariate analysis, IPSS 3 (intermittency, OR 0.160, 95% CI 1.010-1.333, p = 0.035) and IPSS 7 (nocturia, OR 1.238, 95% CI 1.077-1.423, p = 0.003) were significantly related to 'any degree of ED'. 'More than mild ED' was significantly related to IPSS 5 (weak stream, OR 1.267, 95% CI 1.058-1.518, p = 0.010). CONCLUSIONS Every LUTS listed in the IPSS items was negatively correlated with erectile function. METHODS Patients referred for HoLEP completed the International Prostatic Symptom Score (IPSS) the day before, at discharge, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, and 52 weeks after HoLEP. Total IPSS was stratified into mild (score 0-7), moderate (8-19), and severe (20-35) LUTS. Storage symptoms were sub-stratified into storage "negative" and "positive". IPSS changes served as the main postoperative outcome. Mixed linear models identified risk factors affecting postoperative recovery of LUTS. RESULTS Between December 2010 and 2012, 144 consecutive HoLEP patients were prospectively included in the study. Preoperatively 57.6% of the cohort reported severe storage symptoms (mean total IPSS 22.6 ± 5.0). Total IPSS decreased significantly immediately after surgery (p less then 0.001). Patients with severe LUTS, storage-positive sub-score, and high maximum urinary flow rate were affected by a rebound of mainly storage symptoms 6-8 weeks after HoLEP and prolonged recovery from LUTS. Of these, about 7.4% presented persisting urge complaints. Finally, 12 weeks following HoLEP, the vast majority of patients were symptom-free. Limitations of this study include missing urodynamic workup and a comparative patient cohort. CONCLUSION Immediately after HoLEP, patients experience a significant decrease of LUTS. Continuous symptom recovery seems to be hampered in patients with severe and storage-positive baseline symptoms. (De-novo) storage symptoms slightly affect postoperative recovery. Both SAFBs are expressed at high levels in the brain. However, the distributions of SAFB1 and SAFB2 have yet to be characterized in detail and it is unclear whether both proteins interact with ERα in the brain. In this study, we investigated the expression and distribution of both SAFBs and their interaction with ERα in adult male rat brain. Immunohistochemical staining showed that SAFB1 and SAFB2 have a similar distribution pattern and are widely expressed throughout the brain. Double-fluorescence immunohistochemical and immunocytochemical analyses in primary cultures showed that the two SAFB proteins are localized in nuclei of neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes. Of note, SAFB2 was also found in cytoplasmic regions in these cell lineages. Both SAFB proteins were also expressed in ERα-positive cells in the medial preoptic area (MPOA) and arcuate and ventromedial hypothalamic nuclei. Co-immunoprecipitation experiments revealed that both SAFB proteins from the MPOA reciprocally interact with endogenous ERα. These results indicate that, in addition to a role in basal cellular function in the brain, the SAFB proteins may serve as ERα corepressors in hormone-sensitive regions.OBJECTIVES The current results show that lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and erectile dysfunction (ED) are co-prevalent conditions. The objective of this study was to determine which LUTS among seven items on the International Prostate Symptom Scores (IPSS) were related to ED in the general population. METHODS The Korean Internet Sexuality Survey was performed in 2006 and 2016. We sent emails and surveyed the panelists registered at an Internet survey agency. The inclusion criteria were sexually active men aged between 20 and 69. The IIEF-5 and total IPSS scores showed significant negative relationships (r = - 0.251, p less then 0.001). Among the seven IPSS items, IPSS 5 (weak stream, r = - 0.243, p less then 0.001) was most strongly correlated with the IIEF-5 scores. On multivariate analysis, IPSS 3 (intermittency, OR 0.160, 95% CI 1.010-1.333, p = 0.035) and IPSS 7 (nocturia, OR 1.238, 95% CI 1.077-1.423, p = 0.003) were significantly related to 'any degree of ED'. 'More than mild ED' was significantly related to IPSS 5 (weak stream, OR 1.267, 95% CI 1.058-1.518, p = 0.010). CONCLUSIONS Every LUTS listed in the IPSS items was negatively correlated with erectile function. Among the seven IPSS items, IPSS 5 (weak stream) was the most related to 'more than mild ED'.PURPOSE To prospectively investigate early and consecutive changes of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), specifically storage symptoms after holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). METHODS Patients referred for HoLEP completed the International Prostatic Symptom Score (IPSS) the day before, at discharge, and 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, and 52 weeks after HoLEP. Total IPSS was stratified into mild (score 0-7), moderate (8-19), and severe (20-35) LUTS. Storage symptoms were sub-stratified into storage "negative" and "positive". IPSS changes served as the main postoperative outcome. Mixed linear models identified risk factors affecting postoperative recovery of LUTS. RESULTS Between December 2010 and 2012, 144 consecutive HoLEP patients were prospectively included in the study. Preoperatively 57.6% of the cohort reported severe storage symptoms (mean total IPSS 22.6 ± 5.0). Total IPSS decreased significantly immediately after surgery (p less then 0.001). Patients with severe LUTS, storage-positive sub-score, and high maximum urinary flow rate were affected by a rebound of mainly storage symptoms 6-8 weeks after HoLEP and prolonged recovery from LUTS. Of these, about 7.4% presented persisting urge complaints. Finally, 12 weeks following HoLEP, the vast majority of patients were symptom-free. Limitations of this study include missing urodynamic workup and a comparative patient cohort. CONCLUSION Immediately after HoLEP, patients experience a significant decrease of LUTS. Continuous symptom recovery seems to be hampered in patients with severe and storage-positive baseline symptoms. (De-novo) storage symptoms slightly affect postoperative recovery. The aim of optimization is to achieve the saving of maintenance time and reduce the negative environmental impact of winter maintenance by effectively deploying equipment and devices.Several anti-inflammatory agents based on pyrazole and imidazopyrazole scaffolds and a large library of substituted catechol PDE4D inhibitors were reported by us in the recent past. To obtain new molecules potentially able to act on different targets involved in inflammation onset we designed and synthesized a series of hybrid compounds by linking pyrazole and imidazo-pyrazole scaffolds to differently decorated catechol moieties through an acylhydrazone chain. Some compounds showed antioxidant activity, inhibiting reactive oxygen species (ROS) elevation in neutrophils, and a good inhibition of phosphodiesterases type 4D and, particularly, type 4B, the isoform most involved in inflammation. In addition, most compounds inhibited ROS production also in platelets, confirming their ability to exert an antiinflammatory response by two independent mechanism. Structure-activity relationship (SAR) analyses evidenced that both heterocyclic scaffolds (pyrazole and imidazopyrazole) and the substituted catechol moiety were determinant for the pharmacodynamic properties, even if hybrid molecules bearing to the pyrazole series were more active than the imidazopyrazole ones. In addition, the pivotal role of the catechol substituents has been analyzed. In conclusion the hybridization approach gave a new serie of multitarget antiinflammatory compounds, characterized by a strong antioxidant activity in different biological targets.The global refugee crisis is at its most critical state in history; Syria alone has produced 12 million internally displaced persons, with another 5 million refugees seeking protection across the globe. Faced with the heavy burden of mental distress carried by a massive refugee influx, many host nations lack the service capacity to respond adequately. While mobile mental health (mMHealth) applications and platforms have the potential to augment screenings and interventions for vulnerable populations, an insufficient gender and cultural adaptation of technology may drastically hamper its uptake in Arab refugees. Reporting only papers originating from Middle Eastern and/or Arab nations or refugee host nations, this systematic review evaluates the available literature published between 2000 and 2019 on the usage acceptability of mMHealth in Syrian refugees and other vulnerable Arab populations. We conducted a systematic review in PubMed, PsychInfo, Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) using Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to identify studies that addressed mMHealth implementation in these populations; of a total of 607 articles identified, only 10 (1.6%) available, unique articles met our search criteria. These studies discussed the feasibility and efficacy of mMHealth applications and the barriers to their uptake. The few existing studies show positive impacts of mMHealth on the access to services and on treatment outcomes but also reveal a paucity of literature on mMHealth for vulnerable Arab populations. These findings indicate a critical need for research on the barriers to mMHealth uptake, to bolster service capacity in the Arab Region and in the refugee diaspora of other, non-Arab host countries.Modifications found in the Anticodon Stem Loop (ASL) of tRNAs play important roles in regulating translational speed and accuracy. SPG has high mortality and morbidity rates, though consensus guidelines for management have yet to be produced. We herein present the case of a 28-year-old woman with meningococcal septicaemia complicated with extensive bilateral upper and lower limb SPG. We discuss the various management options of SPG. Thereafter in 1952, an innovative approach was introduced to the treatment of serious, complex wounds through the use of sub-atmospheric or negative pressure known as "negative pressure wound therapy" (NPWT). Later, the "vacuum-assisted closure", or VAC therapy system founded by Dr. Louis Argenta in 1990 revolutionized the advanced wound care market, and still remains the most clinically proven alternative for the treatment of complex, hard-to-heal wounds. These therapies utilize a foam dressing that is conformed to the wound bed. When sealed and placed under negative (vacuum) pressure, the system creates a unique wound-healing environment that has been shling promotion and skin function restoration without any obvious side effects. In this review, we have hypothesized a novel modality, focusing on the treatment of wound complications secondary to comorbidity by a combination of negative pressure therapy followed by a positive pressure infusion with growth factor concentrates.Leech therapy, which can lead to complications such as anemia and bleeding, has been used to treat many diseases since ancient times. Furthermore, some substances in leech saliva are known to have anticoagulant effects. Acute mesenteric ischemia, which develops due to mesenteric vascular obstruction, can be treated medically or surgically. Non-occlusive mesenteric ischemia (NOMI) occurs as a result of decreased blood flow in mesenteric vessels due to hypovolemia, hypotension, etc. In this report, we mentioned a 57-year-old male patient who was admitted to the emergency department with syncope and weakness. In his medical history, the patient was stated to have used leech therapy to treat diabetic wounds on his feet, and prolonged and unstoppable bleeding was seen after leech bites. On his physical examination, there was tenderness in all quadrants of the abdomen. Abdominal computed tomography without contrast agent showed hepatic portal venous gas and pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PSI). The patient underwent laparotomy owing to the development of acute abdomen during the follow-up. Necrosis was seen in the terminal ileum and entire colon. Low flow in mesenteric vascular vessels of these necrotic segments was indicated with intraoperative Doppler ultrasonography. All necrotic segments were resected and open end-ileostomy was performed. The patient was discharged on the 17th day of follow-up. In conclusion, excessive bleeding caused by leech therapy can cause NOMI.Ovarian tumors occurring secondarily to metastatic colorectal carcinoma remain a rare occurrence. Since ovarian tumors remain predominantly asymptomatic in the initial stages, they are often diagnosed incidentally. The vague, non-specific symptoms elicited by a secondary ovarian carcinoma, coupled with a histopathology remarkably similar to that evoked by primary ovarian tumors, render its ascertainment a diagnostic challenge. We hereby delineate an interesting case of a metachronous ovarian adenocarcinoma in a 19-year-old patient with a prior medical history significant for colorectal carcinoma treated with hemicolectomy. Subsequent diagnostic workup divulged a mass in her left adnexal region, which was ultimately diagnosed as a metastatic colon adenocarcinoma to the ovary. Unfortunately, the patient succumbed to the aggressive malignancy and did not survive. We therefore aim to accentuate the diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas fomented by ovarian adenocarcinomas that arise secondarily to primary colorectal cancers.Introduction Laparoscopic colonic resection is increasingly becoming popular worldwide and aims to provide curative resection in addition to the inherent benefits of laparoscopic surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term outcomes of laparoscopic right hemicolectomy in a Pakistani cohort of patients. Methods and procedures We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of all patients who presented to our hospital with the diagnosis of right-sided colon carcinoma from January 2010 to December 2018 and underwent laparoscopic right or extended right hemicolectomy. Demographics, operative findings, histopathology report, and follow-up of patients were recorded and the analysis was performed on Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 20 (IBM Corp, Armonk, NY). Results Seventy-five patients were included, 56 (74.7%) of whom were males and 19 (25.3%) were females. The median age was 52 years (range 25-82 years). The median hospital stay was five days (Range 3-13 days). The median blood loss was 70 milliliters and the mean operative time was 195.5±77.6 minutes. Laparoscopic extended right hemicolectomy was performed in 23 (16.67%) patients and standard right hemicolectomy in 52 (83.33%) patients. Most (72%) of the patients had a pathological T3 tumor, and the majority (61.3%) of the patients had no nodal involvement (pN0). The mean number of lymph nodes removed was 20+8. The median numbers of involved lymph nodes were 1.14+2.19. All the patients had R0 resection. Postoperatively, two patients had pelvic collection, and there was no 30-day mortality. Local recurrence occurred in four patients and distant metastases were observed in nine patients. The median follow-up in our study was 40.5±18.35 months. On his physical examination, there was tenderness in all quadrants of the abdomen. Abdominal computed tomography without contrast agent showed hepatic portal venous gas and pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PSI). The patient underwent laparotomy owing to the development of acute abdomen during the follow-up. Necrosis was seen in the terminal ileum and entire colon. Low flow in mesenteric vascular vessels of these necrotic segments was indicated with intraoperative Doppler ultrasonography. All necrotic segments were resected and open end-ileostomy was performed. The patient was discharged on the 17th day of follow-up. The nationwide claims database in Korea was utilized. Patients underwent CA for AF were identified using combinations of diagnostic codes, claims history, and procedure codes. Comorbidities and complications were also identified, and their temporal trends were evaluated.

Research in Poland has specifically highlighted the importance of good governance, economic vitality, personal and social capital (as in education and social participation), a meaning system, certain external contingencies, channels of mobility and ritualism.While psychotherapy is related to both science and art, it is primarily a craft activity requiring the development of skilful practice, epitomized by the discipline of the analytic attitude. In terms of the forms of knowledge outlined by Aristotle, this places psychotherapy in the realm of 'technê' (arts and craft) rather than epistêmê (science). In particular, the technê of psychotherapy is concerned with the development of phronesis (practical wisdom) in both patient and analyst and its ultimate aim is concerned with the promotion of eudaimonia, a state of well-being considered by Aristotle to be definitive of 'the good life'. In cases where patients have no adequate superficial veins for creating an arteriovenous fistula, we have adopted a one-stage operative technique to create a brachio-brachial arteriovenous fistula with superficialization of not only the brachial vein but also the brachial artery using a short skin incision. This technique of a brachio-brachial arteriovenous fistula with superficialization of the brachial artery has several advantages over traditional approaches, including a minimally invasive procedure and early use for vascular access. To our knowledge, the presently described technique and the related data have not been previously reported in the English literature. We herein report the steps of this technique and the midterm follow-up outcomes.

This study examined the relationship between religiosity, spirituality, and death anxiety among Filipino older adults. A convenience sample of 125 Filipino older adults were recruited in the study. Data were collected using the Spirituality Scale, Revised Death Anxiety Scale, and Dimensions of Religiosity Scale. Results of the study revealed that spirituality (r=-0.168, p = 0.061) and religiosity (r=-0.044, p = 0.623) had an inverse relationship with death anxiety. However, even with the inverse relationship, spirituality and religiosity were not significantly correlated with death anxiety, although participants were well aware of the importance of these concepts on their lives. It is suggested that assessing spirituality and religiosity of this age group can inform nurses to engage in quality nursing practice, by affirming the vulnerability, and preserving the personhood of older persons as they near their end-of-life.

In cases where patients have no adequate superficial veins for creating an arteriovenous fistula, we have adopted a one-stage operative technique to create a brachio-brachial arteriovenous fistula with superficialization of not only the brachial vein but also the brachial artery using a short skin incision. This technique of a brachio-brachial arteriovenous fistula with superficialization of the brachial artery has several advantages over traditional approaches, including a minimally invasive procedure and early use for vascular access. To our knowledge, the presently described technique and the related data have not been previously reported in the English literature. We herein report the steps of this technique and the midterm follow-up outcomes. This study examined the relationship between religiosity, spirituality, and death anxiety among Filipino older adults. A convenience sample of 125 Filipino older adults were recruited in the study. Data were collected using the Spirituality Scale, Revised Death Anxiety Scale, and Dimensions of Religiosity Scale. Results of the study revealed that spirituality (r=-0.168, p = 0.061) and religiosity (r=-0.044, p = 0.623) had an inverse relationship with death anxiety. However, even with the inverse relationship, spirituality and religiosity were not significantly correlated with death anxiety, although participants were well aware of the importance of these concepts on their lives. This study investigates the effects of economic and sociocultural heterogeneity on trust and cooperation in common-pool resources using a laboratory experiment. The experiment comprises two Investment Games and a Common-Pool Resource Game, with a sample of 344 subjects from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. By measuring the effects of economic and sociocultural heterogeneity separately as well as combined, this study disentangles the effects of specific heterogeneity types on cooperation in common-pool resources; something that has not been done before. Higher levels of trusting behaviour are found to have a positive effect on cooperation on the micro- and macro-level over time. While theory suggests negative effects of both forms of heterogeneity on cooperation through decreased levels of trust, the results show a surprising positive effect of economic heterogeneity on cooperation, but a negative effect if economic and sociocultural heterogeneity are combined. This study concludes that economic inequality can promote cooperation in CPRs, unless this inequality is lined up with sociocultural differences.
Identifying the factors contributing to maternal satisfaction is a proxy measure to improve the quality of care. It evaluates the health service provision by understanding maternal perceptions and expectations and promoting adherence to health services. This study aimed to identify the sociodemographic, obstetric, and medical factors contributing to labor satisfaction among postpartum women and examine the association between labor and postnatal satisfaction.
A cross-sectional study using systematic random sampling in a ratio of 15 based on the delivery list in a labor room in a tertiary hospital was applied. Information was obtained from medical records for sociodemographic characteristics and obstetric and medical histories. Face-to-face interviews were performed to obtain responses for Malay versions of the Women's Views of Birth Labour Satisfaction Questionnaire and the Women's Views of Birth Postnatal Satisfaction Questionnaire. Simple and general linear regression analyses were performed.
A total of 110 participants responded, accounting for a response rate of 100%. High-risk color codes, the period of gestation, household income, and were significantly associated with maternal satisfaction during labor. The association between labor and postnatal satisfaction was significant.

We employed Next Gen DNA sequencing of six dogs with multicentric B-cell lymphoma undergoing CHOP chemotherapy to identify genetic variations potentially impacting response. Paired samples from non-neoplastic tissue (blood mononuclear cells) and lymphoma were collected at the time of diagnosis. Cases with progression free survival above the median of 231 days were grouped as 'good' responders and cases below the median were categorized as 'poor' responders. The average number of variants found was 17,138 per case. The variants were filtered to examine those with predicted moderate or high impacts. Many of the genes with variants had human orthologs with links to cancer, but the majority of variants were not previously reported in canine or human lymphoma. Colorectal carcinogenesis is mechanistically linked to inflammation and is highly associated with diet and lifestyle factors that may affect chronic inflammation. We previously developed dietary (DIS) and lifestyle (LIS) inflammation scores, comprising inflammation biomarker-weighted components, to characterize the collective contributions of 19 food groups and four lifestyle exposures to systemic inflammation. Both scores were more strongly directly associated with circulating inflammation biomarkers in three validation populations, including a subset of the study population described below, than were the previously reported dietary inflammatory index and empirical dietary inflammatory pattern.
We calculated the DIS and LIS in three pooled case-control studies of incident, sporadic colorectal adenoma (
= 765 cases and 1,986 controls) with extensive dietary and lifestyle data, and investigated their associations with adenoma using multivariable unconditional logistic regression.

We hypothesize that environmental exposures vary with socioeconomic status (SES) and urban/rural locations, and areas with minority populations coincide with high economic disadvantage and pollution.
To model joint exposure to pollution and SES, we develop a latent class mixture model (LCMM) with three latent variables (SES Advantage, SES Disadvantage, and Air Pollution) and compare the LCMM fit with K-means clustering. We ran an ANOVA to test for high exposure levels in non-Hispanic black populations. The analysis is at the census tract level for the state of North Carolina.
The LCMM was a better and more nuanced fit to the data than K-means clustering. Our LCMM had two sublevels (low, high) within each latent class. The worst levels of exposure (high SES disadvantage, low SES advantage, high pollution) are found in 22% of census tracts, while the best levels (low SES disadvantage, high SES advantage, low pollution) are found in 5.7%. Overall, 34.1% of the census tracts exhibit high disadvantage, 66.3% have low advantage, and 59.2% have high mixtures of toxic pollutants. Areas with higher SES disadvantage had significantly higher non-Hispanic black population density (NHBPD;
< 0.001), and NHBPD was higher in areas with higher pollution (
< 0.001).

Fecal samples were daily taken to check the pattern of oocyst shedding from the 26th to 31st day. The body weight of birds was measured at 21st and 31st days. Along with the in vivo experiment, an in vitro sporulation inhibition test was carried out. The in vitro results showed that CINN decreased sporulation rate at 1 and 0.5 mg/ml. In vivo, it was found that CINN did not prevent the oocyst shedding. Furthermore, the histopathological findings revealed that CINN and salinomycin had no effect on infection establishment. However, our findings showed that CINN (200 mg/kg of diet) could enhance the body weight and improve antioxidant status. The aim of this registry-based observational study was to explore characteristics and clinical outcomes of recipients of kidney transplants included in the French nationwide Registry of Solid Organ Transplant Recipients with Covid-19. Covid-19 was diagnosed in symptomatic patients who had a positive PCR assay for SARS-CoV-2 or having typical lung lesions on imaging. Clinical and laboratory characteristics, management of immunosuppression, treatment for Covid-19, and clinical outcomes (hospitalization, admission to intensive care unit, mechanical ventilation, or death) were recorded. Risk factors for severe disease or death were determined. Of the 279 patients, 243 were admitted to hospital and 36 were managed at home. The median age of hospitalized patients was 61.6 years; most had comorbidities (hypertension, 90.1%; overweight, 63.8%; diabetes, 41.3%; cardiovascular disease, 36.2%). Fever, cough, dyspnea, and diarrhea were the most common symptoms on admission. Laboratory findings revealed mild inflammation frequently accompanied by lymphopenia. Immunosuppressive drugs were generally withdrawn (calcineurin inhibitors 28.7%; antimetabolites 70.8%). Treatment was mainly based on hydroxychloroquine (24.7%), antiviral drugs (7.8%), and tocilizumab (5.3%). Severe Covid-19 occurred in 106 patients (46%). Forty-three hospitalized patients died (30-day mortality 22.8%). Multivariable analysis identified overweight, fever, and dyspnea as independent risk factors for severe disease, whereas age over 60 years, cardiovascular disease, and dyspnea were independently associated with mortality. Thus, Covid-19 in recipients of kidney transplants portends a high mortality rate. Yet, little is known about the role of TRIP6 in cervical cancer. In the current study, we aimed to explore the expression, biological function, and regulatory mechanism of TRIP6 in cervical cancer. Here we showed that TRIP6 expression was markedly upregulated in cervical cancer tissues and cell lines. The knockdown of TRIP6 suppressed the proliferation, colony formation, and invasive potential of cervical cancer cells, whereas TRIP6 overexpression exhibited the opposite effect. Moreover, TRIP6 contributes to the activation of Yes-associated protein (YAP) by downregulating the level of YAP phosphorylation. Notably, TRIP6-mediated tumor promotion effect was partially reversed by YAP inhibition. In addition, TRIP6 knockdown retarded the in vivo tumor growth of cervical cancer of mouse xenograft models associated with downregulation of YAP activation in tumor tissues.
