  • Histopathological information about spontaneous lesions in aged Hannover Wistar rats is limited. In this study, we describe spontaneous lesions found in 39 male RccHanWIST rats used as a control in a carcinogenicity study. Neoplastic lesions were frequently seen in the endocrine system, such as pituitary adenomas in the pars distalis. This strain exhibited a high incidence of thymoma (10.3%), compared to other strains. We encountered an oligodendroglioma, a pituitary adenoma of the pars intermedia, and a prostate adenocarcinoma, which are comparatively rare in rats. While the variety and incidence of non-neoplastic lesions were similar to those in other strains, several interesting lesions occurred with relatively high incidence, including "harderianization" of the extraorbital lacrimal gland, common bile duct ectasia, and hyperplasia of pulmonary endocrine cells in the lung. Here, we report the morphological features of the neonatal mouse intestine, focusing on crypt fission. Postnatal day (PND) 7 and 14 **** showed fewer crypts and less mature epithelial morphology compared to PND 21 and 28. Crypt fission occurred in three stages 1) flattening of the crypt base into a skirt shape, 2) penetration of myofibroblasts into the crypt base center, and 3) complete separation of a single crypt into two daughter crypts. The ratio of crypt fission to total number of crypts was the highest at PND 14 and 7 in the jejunum and colon, respectively. Crypt fission, a key phenomenon for balance or imbalance in epithelial cell hierarchy, including stem and differentiated cells, is related to tissue injury repair and tumorigenesis. The other form was composed of short spindle cells positive for S-100 and was producing various amounts of eosinophilic osteoid and trabecula-like matrices positive for osteocalcin, indicating osteosarcomatous differentiation. In addition, invasive growth in the hepatic parenchyma and cell atypia were observed. This lesion was observed only in one animal in a low dose group and was an incidental finding. Histopathologically, the well-demarcated nodule comprised abundant collagen containing spindle cells arranged in intermediate to long streams and formed broad interlacing fascicles. The spindle cells had an indistinct cell border with round to elongated hyperchromatic nuclei or nuclei with finely stippled chromatin and indistinct nucleoli. Furthermore, these cells were weakly positive for S100 and positive for α-smooth muscle actin, calponin, and vimentin. Based on the histological features, the proliferating spindle cells resembled phenotypes of smooth muscles or myofibroblasts. However, the proliferating cells lacked well-differentiated smooth muscle cells, cigar-shaped nuclei, and well-developed reticulin fibers outlining individual cells. Fine granular materials in the bladder lumen were positive for Von Kossa staining but negative for periodic acid-Schiff or Gram staining, indicating no apparent bacterial infection in the urinary bladder. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that the urinary calculi were magnesium ammonium phosphate crystals (struvite). On the basis of the results, the lesion was diagnosed as urothelial hyperplasia with calculi (papillomatosis). Having knowledge of the distribution of microorganisms according to patient characteristics can help clinicians make informed choices regarding empirical antibiotics. The aim of this study was to determine the microbial distribution among individuals with PVO according to their demographic and clinical characteristics. Methods We reviewed the medical records of patients admitted to our hospital with culture-confirmed PVO between January 2005 and December 2017 and collected data on demographics, underlying diseases, and radiographic and microbiological results. Statistical analysis was performed to identify associations between specific bacteria and specific patient characteristics. Results A total of 586 patients were included in the study. The prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus infections was higher in young patients than in old patients, while gram-negative bacterial infections and Enterococcus were more prevalent in older patients. Gram-negative bacterial infections were more common in women than in men (32.1% vs 16.4%; P less then .05), in patients with cirrhosis than in those without (32.7% vs 21.1%; P less then .05), and in patients with a solid tumor than in those without (31.0% vs 20.7%; P less then .05). Methicillin-resistant S. aureus infections were more prevalent in patients with chronic renal disease than in those without (34.4% vs 14.7%; P less then .05). Conclusions The microbial etiology of PVO varies according to patient characteristics. Patient characteristics should thus be considered when choosing empirical antibiotics in patients with culture-negative PVO.Background In phase 3 MODIFY I/II trials, bezlotoxumab significantly reduced recurrence of Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile infection (rCDI) over 12 weeks. Choice of CDI antibacterial treatment may affect CDI-related outcomes; therefore, this prespecified analysis assessed if the magnitude of bezlotoxumab-induced rCDI reduction was influenced by the antibiotic administered. Methods In MODIFY I/II (NCT01241552/NCT01513239), participants received a single infusion of bezlotoxumab (10 mg/kg) or placebo during anti-CDI treatment. Using pooled data from MODIFY I/II, initial clinical cure (ICC) and rCDI were assessed in metronidazole-, vancomycin-, and fidaxomicin-treated subgroups. Results Of 1554 participants in MODIFY I/II, 753 (48.5%) received metronidazole, 745 (47.9%) vancomycin, and 56 (3.6%) fidaxomicin. Fewer participants receiving metronidazole had a prior CDI episode in the previous 6 months (12.9%) or ≥1 risk factor for rCDI (66.0%) vs participants receiving vancomycin (41.2% and 83.6%, respectively) and fidaxomicin (55.4% and 89.3%, respectively). ICC rates were similar in the bezlotoxumab (metronidazole, 81.0%; vancomycin, 78.5%; fidaxomicin, 86.7%) and placebo groups (metronidazole, 81.3%; vancomycin, 79.6%; fidaxomicin, 76.9%). In placebo-treated participants, the rCDI was lower in the metronidazole subgroup vs the vancomycin and fidaxomicin subgroups (metronidazole, 28.0%; vancomycin, 38.4%; fidaxomicin, 35.0%). This narrative review article aims to summarize key arguments for and against the use of oral antibiotics to complete treatment of uncomplicated SAB and evaluates the available evidence for specific oral regimens. We conclude that evidence suggests that oral step-down therapy can be an alternative for select patients who meet the criteria for uncomplicated SAB and will comply with medical treatment and outpatient follow-up. Targeted Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is a new opportunity to expand the existing pathogenic variants (PVs) spectrum associated to FH. Our aim was to report a diagnostic NGS-based approach to detect variants associated to FH. METHODS We report two patients a 48-year-old Asian woman, without known history of hypercholesterolemia and a 46-year-old Caucasian man, with childhood hypercholesterolemia. RESULTS An effective NGS-based pipeline, FH-Devyser kit/Amplicon Suite, beginning from sequencing to data analysis, did not identify known PVs in the LDLR, APOB, APOE, LDLRAP1, STAP1 and PCSK9 genes, but revealed two novel LDLR variants (c.1564A>T, p.Ile522Phe and c.1688C>T, p.Pro563Leu). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS This study showed that an effective NGS-based pipeline led to a definitive diagnosis in two FH families, allowing to plan their therapeutic treatment. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The results of the study showed wide differences between the two applied bioassays. The FET test was generally more sensitive in detecting even low effects in all the water samples, but the strongest statistically results were observed with the D. magna Acute Immobilisation test. The results of this research confirm the effectiveness of EBMs in investigating and monitoring water chemical pollution, and stress the need for performing further studies, e.g. chemical analyses and other bioassays, to improve the knowledge of the health status of the Tiber River basin. Social cognition was evaluated with the awareness of social interference test. Intelligence Quotient (IQ) was calculated with Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. TASIT (Awareness of Social Inference Test) performance was analyzed via MANOVA, including IQ as covariate. RESULTS Group and IQ showed significant effect (p less then 0.001; p = 0.037). The only TASIT variables where IQ showed no effect were paradoxical sarcasm; sincerity; lie. In sincerity, CS group shows a better performance than both 22q11DS groups (p less then 0.05). In paradoxical sarcasm and lie, CS group performed better than each clinical group (p less then 0.05). Regarding lie, DEL group was worst also respect to SCZ group (p = 0.029). Targeted Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is a new opportunity to expand the existing pathogenic variants (PVs) spectrum associated to FH. Our aim was to report a diagnostic NGS-based approach to detect variants associated to FH. METHODS We report two patients a 48-year-old Asian woman, without known history of hypercholesterolemia and a 46-year-old Caucasian man, with childhood hypercholesterolemia. RESULTS An effective NGS-based pipeline, FH-Devyser kit/Amplicon Suite, beginning from sequencing to data analysis, did not identify known PVs in the LDLR, APOB, APOE, LDLRAP1, STAP1 and PCSK9 genes, but revealed two novel LDLR variants (c.1564A>T, p.Ile522Phe and c.1688C>T, p.Pro563Leu). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS This study showed that an effective NGS-based pipeline led to a definitive diagnosis in two FH families, allowing to plan their therapeutic treatment. The analysis of the device parameters in the initial state and the vent-evacuation state after e-beam irradiation can clarify the effect of the interplay between the e-beam-induced EHPs and ambient adsorbates on the carrier behavior, which depends on the thickness of the MoS2layer.   • Angiotensin-II (Ang-II) receptor plays a role in allergic airway inflammation; however, the underlying mechanism and role of macrophages need better understanding. In the present study, angiotensin-II infusion (1 μg/kg/min) in ovalbumin-induced airway inflammation **** model significantly decreased immune cell infiltration, goblet cell hyperplasia, and eosinophil numbers in lungs. Ang-II infusion increased M1 and decreased M2 macrophage population in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and respective macrophage markers in lung macrophages. Similarly, in vitro Ang-II treatment in murine bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) induced M1 and reduced M2 macrophage phenotype with enhanced bactericidal activity. Mechanistically, Ang-II inhibits Let-7c and miR-99a expression in BMDMs and in vivo as well. Lentiviral overexpression of Let-7c and miR-99a miRNAs in BMDMs abrogated Ang-II-induced M1 phenotype activation and promoted M2 phenotype, which is governed by targeting TNFα by miR-99a. In lung macrophages, ovalbumin-inhis results in increased TNFα levels that lead to M1 polarization and allergic airway inflammation inhibition.Apigenin, a flavonoid found in many plants, has various biological properties. We aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative activity of apigenin against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced acute liver injury in **** and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced oxidative stress in HepG2 cells and possible mechanism. In vivo, apigenin significantly reduced alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity in serum of **** challenged by CCl4 and markedly alleviated the lipid peroxidation as indicated by the increased level of superoxide dismutase (***), reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidases (GSH-Px) and catalase (CAT), and the decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver tissue. Apigenin also ameliorated inflammation by downregulating tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and upregulating IL-10. In this study, we show that CERTIS effectively labeled the paraspeckle lncRNA NEAT1 without disturbing its physiological properties and could monitor the endogenous expression variation of NEAT1. Methods We analyzed data from the National Survey of American Life to calculate the prevalence of two types of discrimination (everyday discrimination, major discriminatory events) and multimorbidity (physical, psychiatric, mixed, any). Using multivariable logistic regression, we examined the associations between discrimination and multimorbidity, adjusting for age, sex, years of education, income-to-poverty ratio, and ethnicity. The everyday discrimination scale was discretized into five categories (none, low, medium, high, very high), but was also treated as a continuous variable. The major discriminatory events were analyzed in separate adjusted models, and as a count of events. Results When compared with those who did not experience any discrimination, people who experienced everyday discrimination were significantly more likely to report all types of multimorbidity in a dose-response fashion at a conventional level of statistical significance. Most major discriminatory events were associated with greater odds of reporting all types of multimorbidity, as were the counts of major discriminatory events, in a dose-response fashion. Conclusions We found strong evidence to suggest that discrimination was associated with greater odds of reporting multimorbidity. Future studies can expand on these findings using longitudinal data to capture the relations between discrimination and health over time, or by testing preventive interventions that allay the damaging health effects of discrimination.
    Angiotensin-II (Ang-II) receptor plays a role in allergic airway inflammation; however, the underlying mechanism and role of macrophages need better understanding. In the present study, angiotensin-II infusion (1 μg/kg/min) in ovalbumin-induced airway inflammation mice model significantly decreased immune cell infiltration, goblet cell hyperplasia, and eosinophil numbers in lungs. Ang-II infusion increased M1 and decreased M2 macrophage population in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and respective macrophage markers in lung macrophages. Similarly, in vitro Ang-II treatment in murine bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) induced M1 and reduced M2 macrophage phenotype with enhanced bactericidal activity. Mechanistically, Ang-II inhibits Let-7c and miR-99a expression in BMDMs and in vivo as well. Lentiviral overexpression of Let-7c and miR-99a miRNAs in BMDMs abrogated Ang-II-induced M1 phenotype activation and promoted M2 phenotype, which is governed by targeting TNFα by miR-99a. We aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative activity of apigenin against carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced acute liver injury in mice and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced oxidative stress in HepG2 cells and possible mechanism. In vivo, apigenin significantly reduced alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activity in serum of mice challenged by CCl4 and markedly alleviated the lipid peroxidation as indicated by the increased level of superoxide dismutase (SOD), reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidases (GSH-Px) and catalase (CAT), and the decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver tissue. Apigenin also ameliorated inflammation by downregulating tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and upregulating IL-10. Consistently, the elevated ALT and AST level; the impaired balance between SOD, GSH activity, and excessive ROS; and the increased gene expression of TNF-α and IL-6 resulting from H2O2-induced oxidative stress were restored by apigenin. RESULTS We identified 442 meta-analyses. In comparing paired meta-analyses that included studies with no events in both arms versus those not, 8 (1.80%) resulted in different directions on OR; 41 (9.28%) altered conclusions on statistical significance. Substantial changes occurred on p-value (55.66% increased, 44.12% decreased) and the width of 95% CI (50.68% inflated, 49.32% declined) when excluding studies with no events. Simulation study confirmed these findings CONCLUSIONS Studies with no events in both arms are not necessarily non-informative. Excluding such studies may alter conclusions. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING We searched PubMed to identity systematic reviews published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and Core Clinical Journals indexed in 2015, and randomly sampled systematic reviews assessing drug effects at a 11 ratio of Cochrane and non-Cochrane reviews. Teams of two investigators independently conducted study screening and collected data, using pre-specified, standardized questionnaires. In addition to general information, we collected details about the planning and analyses of safety outcomes. RESULTS We included 120 systematic reviews, including 60 Cochrane and 60 non-Cochrane ones. Most reviews searched PubMed/MEDLINE (n=117, 97.5%), EMBASE (n=105, 87.5%) and Cochrane CENTRAL (n=110, 91.7%), and conducted independent and duplicate study selection (n=98, 81.7%), risk of bias assessment (n=105, 87.5%), and data collection (n=105, 87.5%). On the overall quality of evidence with the GRADE approach. BACKGROUND & AIMS The benefits of prophylactic clipping to prevent bleeding after polypectomy are unclear. We conducted an updated meta-analysis of randomized trials to assess the efficacy of clipping in preventing bleeding after polypectomy, overall and according to polyp size and location. METHODS We searched the Medline/PubMed, EMBASE, and Scopus databases randomized trials that compared effects of clipping vs not clipping to prevent bleeding after polypectomy. We performed a random-effects meta-analysis to generate pooled relative risks (RRs) with 95% CIs. Multilevel random-effects meta-regression analysis was used to combine data on bleeding after polypectomy and estimate associations between rates of bleeding and polyp characteristics. RESULTS We analyzed data from 9 trials, comprising 7197 colorectal lesions (22.5% 20 mm or larger, 49.2% with proximal location). Clipping, compared with no clipping, did not significantly reduce the overall risk of post-polypectomy bleeding (2.2% with clipping vs 3.3% with no clipping; RR, 0.69; 95% CI, 0.45-1.08; P=.072). Clipping significantly reduced risk of bleeding after removal of polyps that were 20 mm or larger (4.3% had bleeding after clipping vs 7.6% had bleeding with no clipping; RR, 0.51; 95% CI, 0.33-0.78; P=.020) or that were in a proximal location (3.0% had bleeding after clipping vs 6.2% had bleeding with no clipping; RR, 0.53; 95% CI, 0.35-0.81; P less then .001). In multilevel meta-regression analysis that adjusted for polyp size and location, prophylactic clipping was significantly associated with reduced risk of bleeding after removal of large proximal polyps (RR, 0.37; 95% CI, 0.22-0.61; P=.021) but not small proximal lesions (RR, 0.88; 95% CI, 0.48-1.62; P=0.581). BACKGROUND & AIMS Intestinal microfold (M) cells are a unique subset of intestinal epithelial cells in the Peyer's patches that regulate mucosal immunity, serving as portals for sampling and uptake of luminal antigens. The inability to efficiently develop human M cells in cell culture has impeded studies of the intestinal immune system. We aimed to identify signaling pathways required for differentiation of human M cells and establish a robust culture system using human ileum enteroids. METHODS We analyzed transcriptome data from mouse Peyer's Patches to identify cell populations in close proximity to M cells. We used the human enteroid system to determine which cytokines were required to induce M cell differentiation. We performed transcriptome, immunofluorescence, scanning electron microscope, and transcytosis experiments to validate the development of phenotypic and functional human M cells. RESULTS A combination of retinoic acid and lymphotoxin induced differentiation of glycoprotein 2-positive human M cells, which lack apical microvilli structure. Upregulated expression of innate immune-related genes within M cells correlated with a lack of viral antigens after rotavirus infection. Human M cells, developed in the enteroid system, internalized and transported enteric viruses, such as rotavirus and reovirus, across the intestinal epithelium barrier in the enteroids. CONCLUSIONS We identified signaling pathways required for differentiation of intestinal M cells, and used this information to create a robust culture method to develop human M cells with capacity for internalization and transport of viruses. Studies of this model might increase our understanding of antigen presentation and the systemic entry of enteric pathogens in the human intestine.

Methods We conducted a cross- sectional analysis using data from the 1999-2000, 7th exam cycle of the Kuakini Honolulu-Asia Aging Study. Participants were 718 Japanese-American men between 79 and 97 years old, who had overnight polysomnography. Obstructive Apnea-Hypopnea Index (OAHI) was the measure of the number of obstructive apneas and hypopneas with >4% oxygen desaturation. Additionally, the Central Apnea Index (CAI) was the measure of the number of central apneas. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was categorized as none (OAHI less then 5), mild (OAHI 5-14), moderate (OAHI 15-29) and severe (OAHI ≥30). CSA was defined by CAI of 5 or more. Cheyne-Stokes Breathing (CSB) was defined as a minimum consecutive 5-minute period of a crescendo-decrescendo respiratory pattern associated with CSA. Results AF prevalence was 5.5% (39 of 709). The prevalence proportions of severe OSA, CSA, and CSB were 20.2% (143 of 709), 6.4% (43 of 673) and 3.2% (22 of 673), respectively. In multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models, CSA and CSB were significantly associated with AF prevalence odds ratio (OR) 5.15, 95% confidential interval (CI), 2.21-12.52 and OR 6.26, 95% CI, 2.05-19.14, respectively. However, OSA was not significantly associated with AF prevalence. Conclusion AF prevalence is associated with CSA and CSB but not OSA in older Japanese-American men. Materials and methods Fifty-three patients with primary IO and non-homozygous genotype for the HFE p.Cys282Tyr were selected. Subsequent bidirectional DNA sequencing of BMP6 exons was performed. Results Two novel variants were found. One at homozygous state p.Gln158Ter (c.472C>T) was pathogenic, the other one at heterozygous state p.Val394Met (c.1180G>A) was of uncertain significance (VUS); the third variant at heterozygous state p.Arg257His (c.770G>A) has already been described and associated with IO. No BMP6 pathogenic variants that would explain iron overload phenotypes were detected in 94% of the studied patients. Objective The current study was conducted to determine what perceptions forensic interviewers hold about **** interviews as a learning exercise for developing skills for child interviewing, and whether there are negative perceptions that could potentially have an impact on the helpfulness of the exercise. Participants Written reflections were obtained from 35 US forensic interviewing professionals who were enrolled in an online child interviewer training program. Methods Common themes were extracted from the reflections to establish forensic interviewers' perceptions of aspects of the **** interview. Extraction of themes assisted in the determination of whether perceptions impacted the manner and degree to which interviewers engaged in the **** interview process. Results Results suggest that regardless of potential anxiety, learners experience multiple benefits from the **** interview. Methods We conducted a cross- sectional analysis using data from the 1999-2000, 7th exam cycle of the Kuakini Honolulu-Asia Aging Study. Participants were 718 Japanese-American men between 79 and 97 years old, who had overnight polysomnography. Obstructive Apnea-Hypopnea Index (OAHI) was the measure of the number of obstructive apneas and hypopneas with >4% oxygen desaturation. Additionally, the Central Apnea Index (CAI) was the measure of the number of central apneas. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was categorized as none (OAHI less then 5), mild (OAHI 5-14), moderate (OAHI 15-29) and severe (OAHI ≥30). CSA was defined by CAI of 5 or more. Cheyne-Stokes Breathing (CSB) was defined as a minimum consecutive 5-minute period of a crescendo-decrescendo respiratory pattern associated with CSA. Results AF prevalence was 5.5% (39 of 709). The prevalence proportions of severe OSA, CSA, and CSB were 20.2% (143 of 709), 6.4% (43 of 673) and 3.2% (22 of 673), respectively. In multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models, CSA and CSB were significantly associated with AF prevalence odds ratio (OR) 5.15, 95% confidential interval (CI), 2.21-12.52 and OR 6.26, 95% CI, 2.05-19.14, respectively. However, OSA was not significantly associated with AF prevalence. Conclusion AF prevalence is associated with CSA and CSB but not OSA in older Japanese-American men. The aim of the present study was to assess the characteristics of Australian alcohol advertisements that breach the Alcohol Advertising Review Board's (AARB) Code, with a particular focus on provisions relating to youth exposure. Methods The sample comprised 628 unique ads that were the subject of complaints to the AARB in its first five years of operation. Participants Written reflections were obtained from 35 US forensic interviewing professionals who were enrolled in an online child interviewer training program. Methods Common themes were extracted from the reflections to establish forensic interviewers' perceptions of aspects of the mock interview. Extraction of themes assisted in the determination of whether perceptions impacted the manner and degree to which interviewers engaged in the mock interview process. Results LncRNA SNHG12 promoted the proliferation, migration, and invasion of trophoblast cells. The expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and MMP-9, β-catenin, and vimentin were positively correlated with SNHG12, and expression of E-cadherin was negatively correlated with SNHG12. SNHG12 also promoted the transition of trophoblast cells from G0/G1 to S phase. The aim of this review is to summarize the current concept of biomarker-guided management and provide an outlook of promising ongoing investigations. Expert opinion 'Antibiotic stewardship' is complex and needs more than just the measurement of one single biomarker. However, when integrated into the context of a thorough clinical examination, standard blood parameters and a well done risk stratification by clinical scores such as the SOFA-score, biomarkers have great potential to improve the diagnostic and prognostic assessment of patients.Objective Disulfiram is commonly used for alcohol abuse; however, recent studies have revealed its potential as an anti-cancer treatment. This study investigated the effects of disulfiram on gastric cancer and its underlying mechanisms of action. Methods The gastric cancer cell lines MKN-45 and SGC-7901 were used for all experiments. Cell proliferation was investigated using cell counting kit-8, cell migration and invasion were examined using Transwell assays, the proliferation and metastasis related proteins PCNA and MMP-2, respectively, were detected by ELISA. To explore the underlying molecular mechanisms, we also examined levels of proteins involved in the Wnt and NF-κB pathways by ELISA. Results Disulfiram significantly inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of gastric cancer cells and decreased PCNA and MMP-2 levels. Additionally, disulfiram-treated MKN-45 and SGC-7901 cells showed reduced expression of Wnt, β-catenin, and NF-κB. Methods We performed a retrospective, single-center study between 2004 and 2018 on 234 patients with suspicious liver lesions who underwent CEUS and CT examinations. All patients underwent native B-mode, color Doppler and CEUS after providing informed consent. Every CEUS examination was performed and interpreted by a single experienced radiologist (European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology level 3). Results CEUS was performed on all included patients without occurrence of any adverse effects. CEUS showed a sensitivity of 94%, a specificity of 70%, a positive predictive value of 93% and a negative predictive value of 72% for analyzing HCC compared with CT as the diagnostic gold standard.
