Crude and adjusted mixed-effects Cox proportional hazards model were performed to estimate HRs for each explanatory variable.

    The incidence rate of abandonment of breastfeeding was 8.9 per 1000 person-days in the whole sample. Multivariate analysis indicated the three most significant protective determinants of exclusive breastfeeding were (a) sessions of prenatal breastfeeding education with an HR of 0.7 (95% CI 0.5 to 0.9) per each extra session, (b) self-perception of milk production, with an HR of 0.4 (95% CI 0.3 to 0.6) per each increase in the perceived quantity of milk production and (c) receiving early skin-to-skin contact with an HR of 0.1 (95% CI <0.1 to 0.3) compared with those not receiving such contact, immediately after birth.

The identification of parental perceptions of factors that may hinder the diagnosis could help clinicians manage these children in a more expeditious manner. While there is growing recognition regarding possible airborne transmission, particularly in the setting of aerosol-generating procedures and treatments, whether nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs for SARS-CoV-2 generate aerosols remains unclear.

  • Progression of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) constitutes a major unresolved clinical challenge, and effective targeted therapies are lacking. Because microtubule dynamics play pivotal roles in breast cancer metastasis, we performed RNA sequencing on 245 samples from TNBC patients to characterize the landscape of microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs). Here, our transcriptome analyses revealed that low expression of one MAP, tektin4, indicated poor patient outcomes. Tektin4 loss led to a marked increase in TNBC migration, invasion, and metastasis and a decrease in microtubule stability. Mechanistically, we identified a novel microtubule-associated complex containing tektin4 and histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6). Tektin4 loss increased the interaction between HDAC6 and α-tubulin, thus decreasing microtubule stability through HDAC6-mediated tubulin deacetylation. Significantly, we found that tektin4 loss sensitized TNBC cells, xenograft models, and patient-derived organoid models to the HDAC6-selective inhibitor ACY1215. This study presents a novel software for the 3D spatial documentation of bone surface modifications at the anatomical level. Combined with spatial statistics, the present analysis has been able to conclude that despite variable degrees of competition during carcass consumption, lions generate bilateral patterning consisting of substantial damage of proximal ends of stylopodials and zeugopodials, moderate damage of the distal ends of femora and marginal damage of distal ends of humeri and zeugopodials. Of special interest is, specifically, the patterning of tooth marks on shafts according to element, since these are crucial to determine not only the type of carnivore involved in any given bone assemblage, but also the interaction with other agents (namely, hominins, in the past). Lions leave few tooth marks on mid-shaft sections, mostly concentrated on certain sections and orientations of stylopodials and, to a lesser extent, of the proximal tibia. Redundant occurrence of tooth marks on certain bone sections renders them as crucial to attest lion agency in carcass initial consumption. Indirectly, this can also be used to determine whether hominins ever acquired carcasses at lion kills.Infectious diseases caused by nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are increasingly becoming a major global problem. Additionally, Mycobacteroides abscessus subsp. abscessus (MAB) infections are refractory to macrolides. This study was conducted to investigate the epidemiology of rapidly growing mycobacteria (RGM) species isolated from clinical specimens in Japan and assess differences in the regional distribution of lower respiratory specimens (LRS)- and non-lower respiratory specimens (NLRS)-derived species. 532 strains (427 LRS, 92 NLRS and 15 unknown specimens) were isolated in nine areas of Japan. We collected 418 specimens from Bio Medical Laboratories (BML), Inc., and 114 specimens from 45 hospitals in Japan. Their epidemiological differences were examined according to the specimen type, region, and climate. Fifteen species were identified. The proportion of M. abscessus group (MAG) strains was significantly lower in NLRS than in LRS (35.9% vs. 68.4%). The proportion of MAG strains was higher in northern Japan than in other regions (83.7% vs. 60.5%). Variations in strain abundance among RGM species was evident in regions with a mean annual temperature below 15 °C. We conclude that the proportions of MAG strains differed between NLRS and LRS in Japan. In addition, the mean annual temperature likely influenced the distribution of RGM species.The sex difference in cancer occurrence is a consistent finding in cancer epidemiology. Although sexual dimorphism is attributed to hormonal or behavioral differences, evidence for the function of lncRNA is lacking in sex-specific cancers. We show here that LINC00263 is one of the most dysregulated lncRNAs in lung adenocarcinomas and is upregulated in lung adenocarcinoma, colorectal cancer, and renal carcinoma, especially in male patients compared to females. LINC00263 functions as an oncogene by promoting translocation of p65 into the nucleus to activate the NF-κB-signaling pathway through interaction with IKKα in the cytoplasm. The expression of LINC00263 is strongly correlated with ESR1, and it is decreased after treatment with estrogen. Ligand-activated ER could inhibit the function of LINC00263 by inhibiting NF-κB from cytoplasmic translocation into the nucleus. The inhibitory effect of estrogen on LINC00263 indicates its differential expression in male and female patients. Our findings indicate that LINC00263 is linked to male sex and estrogen as an oncogene, and these findings might help in the exploration of the mechanisms of differential gene regulation in sex-specific cancers.
    Alternative models of genetic counseling are needed to meet the rising demand for genomic sequencing. Digital tools have been proposed as a method to augment traditional counseling and reduce burden on professionals; however, their role in delivery of genetic counseling is not established. This study explored the role of the Genomics ADvISER, a digital decision aid, in delivery of genomic counseling.

    We performed secondary analysis of 52 pretest genetic counseling sessions that were conducted over the course of a randomized controlled trial evaluating the effectiveness of the Genomics ADvISER. As part of the trial, participants were randomized to receive standard counseling or use the tool and then speak with a counselor. A qualitative interpretive description approach using thematic analysis and constant comparison was used for analysis.

    In the delivery of genomic counseling, the Genomics ADvISER contributed to enhancing counseling by (1) promoting informed dialogue, (2) facilitating preference-sensitive deliberation, and (3) deepening personalization of decisions, all of which represent fundamental principles of patient-centered care providing clear high-quality information, respecting patients' values, preferences, and expressed needs, and providing emotional support.

  • Introduction Cancer immunotherapies with monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against immune checkpoints (i.e. CTLA-4 and PD-1/PD-L1) have revolutionized antineoplastic treatments. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) approved for cancer immunotherapy are mAbs anti-CTLA-4 (ipilimumab), anti-PD-1 (nivolumab, pembrolizumab, and cemiplimab), and anti-PD-L1 (atezolizumab, avelumab, and durvalumab). Treatment with ICIs can be associated with immune-related adverse events (irAEs), including an increased risk of developing myocarditis. These findings are compatible with the observation that, CTLA-4, PD-1, and PD-L1 pathways play a central role in the modulation of autoimmunity.Areas covered In this paper, we start from examining the pathogenesis of cardiovascular adverse events from ICIs, and then we focus on risk factors and strategies to prevent and manage this cardiotoxicity.Expert opinion There is a growing need for a multidisciplinary approach of ICI-associated cardiotoxicity, involving oncologists, cardiologists, and immunologists. The Appraisal tool for Cross-Sectional Studies (AXIS) was used to assess the included studies' methodological quality. The included studies' results were mapped based on stratification by age groups (children, preadolescents, and adolescents), population (clinical vs. non-clinical) and disordered eating outcomes. Nine studies were included, supporting the association between EI and body image dissatisfaction, ED risk and bulimic symptomatology, but not with anorexic symptoms. Research on children and clinical populations was scant. Further studies are needed to deepen the role of EI in the genesis and maintenance of EDs.The present case report provides data on the phenotypic and genotypic properties of S. canis isolated from nine dairy cows with subclinical mastitis (SCC greater than 200,000 cells/mL in the quarter milk sample, no clinical signs) and from a cat living in the barn and reports the eradication of the pathogen from the herd with an automatic milking system. Udder health management and hygiene instructions comprised the removal of the carnivores from the barn, strict monitoring of milking hygiene and techniques to avoid new infections via the milking robot, with simultaneous therapy for all infected cows. Phenotypic and genotypic properties of all isolates were identical. MLST revealed a unique sequence type (ST55) and a farmyard cat was identified as the most likely source of the S. canis infection in cows.   • To investigate the association between maternal sleep duration (an important health indicator) and neonate birth weight.

    The study included 2536 mother-neonate pairs of a Spanish birth cohort (2004-2006, INMA project). The exposures were questionnaire-based measures of sleep duration before and during pregnancy. The primary outcome was neonate birth weight score (g) standardized to 40weeks of gestation.

    In women sleeping for <7h/day before pregnancy, each additional hour of sleep increased birth weight score by 44.7g (P=0.049) in the minimally adjusted model, although findings were not statistically significant after considering other potential confounders (P>0.05). However, increasing sleep duration for the group of mothers who slept for more than 9h/day decreased birth weight score by 39.2g per additional hour (P=0.001). Findings were similar after adjusting for several sociodemographic confounders and maternal depression-anxiety clinical history as an intermediate factor. Similar but attenuated associations were observed with sleep duration in the second trimester of pregnancy.

In this study, we assessed sequential morphological and morphometric changes in the foetal brain during this period using high-resolution T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans from 21 samples preserved at Kyoto University. The insula became apparent and deeply impressed as brain growth progressed. A thick, densely packed cellular ventricular/subventricular zone and ganglionic eminence became apparent at high f the cerebrum, which may reflect the growth and C-shape formation of the cerebrum, may be a candidate for subdividing the early foetal period. Future precise analyses must establish a staging system for the brain during the early foetal period. This study provides insights into brain structure, allowing for a correlation with functional maturation and facilitating the early detection of brain damage and abnormal development.
    Oral health inequities and limited access to care cause patients to seek dental treatment in hospital emergency departments. In addition, conventional clinic models and curricular limitations may result in inadequate experiences for students learning urgent dental care. The aim of the current study was to investigate student perceptions of a novel dental school urgent care clinic model.

    A mixed-methods, cross-sectional study design was used to survey third-year and fourth-year students at a Midwest dental school in spring 2020 about their experiences providing patient care in the school's internal urgent care center. Along with a structured curriculum, the urgent care clinic model incorporates an on-site partnership with a community health center and a hospital emergency department affiliation that serves as a referral base to provide students with their learning experiences.

    Of 81 students, 78 completed the survey (96% response rate). The majority of students treated 50 or more patients. From their urgent care experiences, a majority of students felt prepared to manage patients with acute dental pain and swelling (72/77, 94%), and reported a better understanding of interprofessional collaborations in dentistry (42/77, 55%) and the importance of providing urgent dental care to underserved patients (72/77, 94%). Most students (64/75, 85%) were more likely to offer urgent dental care services to underserved populations in future practice.

    To investigate the association between maternal sleep duration (an important health indicator) and neonate birth weight. The study included 2536 mother-neonate pairs of a Spanish birth cohort (2004-2006, INMA project). The exposures were questionnaire-based measures of sleep duration before and during pregnancy. The primary outcome was neonate birth weight score (g) standardized to 40weeks of gestation. In women sleeping for <7h/day before pregnancy, each additional hour of sleep increased birth weight score by 44.7g (P=0.049) in the minimally adjusted model, although findings were not statistically significant after considering other potential confounders (P>0.05). However, increasing sleep duration for the group of mothers who slept for more than 9h/day decreased birth weight score by 39.2g per additional hour (P=0.001). Findings were similar after adjusting for several sociodemographic confounders and maternal depression-anxiety clinical history as an intermediate factor. Similar but attenuated associations were observed with sleep duration in the second trimester of pregnancy.   • This study aimed at building a prognostic signature based on a candidate gene panel whose expression may be associated with lymph node metastasis (LNM), thus potentially able to predict colorectal cancer (CRC) progression and patient survival. The mRNA expression levels of 20 candidate genes were evaluated by RT-qPCR in cancer and normal mucosa formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues of CRC patients. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the prognosis performance of our model by calculating the area under the curve (AUC) values corresponding to stage and metastasis. A total of 100 FFPE primary tumor tissues from stage I-IV CRC patients were collected and analyzed. Among the 20 candidate genes we studied, only the expression levels of VANGL1 significantly varied between patients with and without LNMs (p = 0.02). Additionally, the AUC value of the 20-gene panel was found to have the highest predictive performance (i.e., AUC = 79.84%) for LNMs compared with that of two subpanels including 5 and 10 genes. According to our results, VANGL1 gene expression levels are able to estimate LNMs in different stages of CRC. After a proper validation in a wider case series, the evaluation of VANGL1 gene expression and that of the 20-gene panel signature could help in the future in the prediction of CRC progression.Consistent condom use tends to be limited in youth, which makes this group especially vulnerable for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies. This study utilizes latent class analysis (LCA) to explore the subtyping of behavioral intentions related to sexual risk in a community-based sample of adolescents aged 14 to 16 years from Spain. Multinomial logistic regression was used to assess the association between class membership and participants' sociodemographic variables (sex, age, educational level, socioeconomic status, and family situation), and behavioral variables (sexual experience and percentage of condom use). Among the 1557 participants, four latent classes of risk were identified "Condom + drugs", "abstinent", "condom + no drugs", and "no condom + drugs". Differences in adolescents' sex, age, educational level, sexual experience, and condom use across latent classes were found. Findings highlight opportunities for psychologists, educators, and health-care providers to promote condom use in adolescents with differing sexual risk profiles. Increased understanding of behavioral intentions among adolescents may help to reduce sexual risk behaviors in this group.The research concerns the use of proton transfer reaction mass spectrometer to track real-time emissions of volatile secondary oxidation products released from rapeseed oil as a result of deep-frying of potato cubes. This paper approaches the biometric characterization of the Portuguese poultry breeds through the study of sexual dimorphism and breed differentiation using six zoometric measures as differentiation criteria. A total of 429 fowl (66 males and 426 females) were studied and the parameters recorded were body weight, body length, chest circumference, shank length, shank diameter and wingspan. A highly sexual dimorphism was evident, in all breeds, with the "Branca" breed being the most zoometrically distant. Concerning Principal Component Analysis, the highly correlations observed between body length, wingspan and shank length, determined the generalized animal form and could be used as selection criteria for improving body size. Breeding programs aiming to preserve these local genetic resources should consider the dual purpose of these breeds sustainability and cultural legacy, and the offer to urban consumers a source of differentiated high-quality products.Many studies have been conducted regarding the association between night work and diabetes, but the association between impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and night work is still unclear. Laboratory, questionnaire, and physical examination data were collected for 80,077 manual workers between 2014 and 2016 from Korea Medical Institute, and associations of the data with IFG were evaluated using a multivariate logistic regression model. The odds ratios for IFG among those who worked night shifts for 2~5 years, 5~12 years, and 12 years or over (ref less then 2 years) after adjusting for abdominal obesity were 1.14 (0.90-1.45), 1.41 (1.10-1.81), and 1.75 (1.41-2.19), respectively. A dose-response relationship was identified between the duration of night work and the prevalence of IFG (p for trend less then 0.05). A dose relationship remained significant when a subgroup of non-obese participants was analyzed.

  • OBJECTIVE To evaluate the performance of machine learning (ML) algorithms and to compare them to logistic regression for the prediction of risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), chronic kidney disease (CKD), diabetes (DM), and hypertension (HTN) and in a prospective cohort study using simple clinical predictors. STUDY DESIGN AND SETTING We conducted analyses in a population-based cohort study in Asian adults (n=6,762). Five different ML models were considered single-hidden-layer neural network, support vector machine, random forest, gradient boosting machine and k-nearest neighbour, and were compared to standard logistic regression. RESULTS The incidences at 6-year of CVD, CKD, DM, and HTN cases were 4.0%, 7.0%, 9.2%, and 34.6%, respectively. Logistic regression reached the highest AUC for CKD (0.905 [0.88, 0.93]) and DM (0.768 [0.73, 0.81]) predictions. For CVD and HTN, the best models were neural network (0.753 [0.70, 0.81]) and support vector machine (0.780 [0.747, 0.812]), respectively. However, the differences with logistic regression were small (less than 1%) and non-significant. Logistic regression, gradient boosting machine and neural network were systematically ranked among the best models. CONCLUSION Logistic regression yields as good performance as ML models to predict the risk of major chronic diseases with low incidence and simple clinical predictors. OBJECTIVE Help educators address misconceptions about P-values and provide a tool that can be used to teach a more contemporary interpretation. DESIGN and Setting A scripted tutorial utilizing problem-based learning and a diagnostic test analogy to deconstruct the misunderstandings about P-values and develop a more Bayesian approach to study interpretation. RESULTS A diagnostic test analogy is an effective teaching tool. Learners' understanding of Bayes' theorem in diagnostic testing can be used as a bridge to the realization that the pre-study probability of a true difference is crucial for study interpretation. The analogy has several caveats and shortcomings. The limitations of this analogy and the conceptual difficulties with the Bayesian study analyses are addressed. CONCLUSIONS P-values do not provide the information many assume they do - they are not equivalent to a probability of a chance finding. This tutorial helps move learners from these incorrect notions to new insights. Product packaging is an important instrument for marketers to draw consumer attention to specific product information and influence product perceptions. The purpose of this research is to investigate whether exposure to a product's packaging can also activate specific mindsets that, once activated, alter consumers' food perceptions. The results of three experiments demonstrate that elongated containers activate a health mindset that influences both consumers' perception of the packaged food product but also their health perceptions of subsequently encountered food. Specifically, foods in elongated containers lead consumers to think of concepts related to healthiness, which have differentiable effects on subsequent healthy and unhealthy food products. Vegetables are an important but under consumed part of a healthy diet. There is growing interest in promoting vegetable acceptance and consumption among infants to help establish life-long healthy eating patterns. A recent survey of commercial baby food products in the United States by Moding and colleagues revealed a lack of variety in the types of vegetables offered. Most notably, there were no commercially available single, dark green vegetable products. Instead, dark green vegetables were often mixed with fruits or red/orange vegetables (e.g., squash) that provide additional sweetness. In order for liking for vegetables to be learned, the flavors from the vegetables must still be perceptible within the mixture. Thus, the objective of the research reported here was to understand the sensory profiles of vegetable-containing Stage 2 infant products commercially available in the United States and how ingredient composition affects flavor profiles. We performed descriptive analysis to quantitatively profile the sensory properties of 21 commercial vegetable-containing infant foods and one prepared in our laboratory. Eleven experienced panelists participated in 14.5 h of lexicon generation and training prior to rating all 22 products (in triplicate) for 14 taste, flavor, and texture attributes. Products that contained fruit were not only sweeter than products that did not contain fruit but were also higher in fruit flavors and lower in vegetable flavors. In general, sensory profiles were driven by the first ingredient in the product. Because few products had dark green vegetables as a first ingredient, dark green vegetable flavor was not prevalent in this category. This suggests the sensory profiles of commercially available infant vegetables foods may not be adequate to facilitate increased acceptance of green vegetables. Their activities are fundamental for life, which make them prominent subjects of study, but access to only a limited number of high-resolution structures complicates their mechanistic understanding. The absence of such structures relates mainly to difficulties in expressing and purifying high quality membrane protein samples in large quantities. An additional layer of complexity stems from the presence of intra- and/or extra-cellular domains constituted by unstructured intrinsically disordered regions (IDR), which can be hundreds of residues long. Although IDRs form key interaction hubs that facilitate biological processes, these are regularly removed to enable structural studies. To advance mechanistic insight into intact intrinsically disordered membrane proteins, we have developed a protocol for their purification. Using engineered yeast cells for optimized expression and purification, we have purified to homogeneity two very different human membrane proteins each with >300 residues long IDRs; the sodium proton exchanger 1 and the growth hormone receptor.

Five different ML models were considered single-hidden-layer neural network, support vector machine, random forest, gradient boosting machine and k-nearest neighbour, and were compared to standard logistic regression. RESULTS The incidences at 6-year of CVD, CKD, DM, and HTN cases were 4.0%, 7.0%, 9.2%, and 34.6%, respectively. Logistic regression reached the highest AUC for CKD (0.905 [0.88, 0.93]) and DM (0.768 [0.73, 0.81]) predictions. For CVD and HTN, the best models were neural network (0.753 [0.70, 0.81]) and support vector machine (0.780 [0.747, 0.812]), respectively. However, the differences with logistic regression were small (less than 1%) and non-significant. Logistic regression, gradient boosting machine and neural network were systematically ranked among the best models. CONCLUSION Logistic regression yields as good performance as ML models to predict the risk of major chronic diseases with low incidence and simple clinical predictors. OBJECTIVE Help educators address misconceptions about P-values and provide a tool that can be used to teach a more contemporary interpretation. DESIGN and Setting A scripted tutorial utilizing problem-based learning and a diagnostic test analogy to deconstruct the misunderstandings about P-values and develop a more Bayesian approach to study interpretation. RESULTS A diagnostic test analogy is an effective teaching tool. Learners' understanding of Bayes' theorem in diagnostic testing can be used as a bridge to the realization that the pre-study probability of a true difference is crucial for study interpretation. The analogy has several caveats and shortcomings. The limitations of this analogy and the conceptual difficulties with the Bayesian study analyses are addressed. CONCLUSIONS P-values do not provide the information many assume they do - they are not equivalent to a probability of a chance finding. This tutorial helps move learners from these incorrect notions to new insights. Product packaging is an important instrument for marketers to draw consumer attention to specific product information and influence product perceptions. The purpose of this research is to investigate whether exposure to a product's packaging can also activate specific mindsets that, once activated, alter consumers' food perceptions. The results of three experiments demonstrate that elongated containers activate a health mindset that influences both consumers' perception of the packaged food product but also their health perceptions of subsequently encountered food. Specifically, foods in elongated containers lead consumers to think of concepts related to healthiness, which have differentiable effects on subsequent healthy and unhealthy food products. Vegetables are an important but under consumed part of a healthy diet. There is growing interest in promoting vegetable acceptance and consumption among infants to help establish life-long healthy eating patterns. A recent survey of commercial baby food products in the United States by Moding and colleagues revealed a lack of variety in the types of vegetables offered. Most notably, there were no commercially available single, dark green vegetable products. Instead, dark green vegetables were often mixed with fruits or red/orange vegetables (e.g., squash) that provide additional sweetness. In order for liking for vegetables to be learned, the flavors from the vegetables must still be perceptible within the mixture. Thus, the objective of the research reported here was to understand the sensory profiles of vegetable-containing Stage 2 infant products commercially available in the United States and how ingredient composition affects flavor profiles. We performed descriptive analysis to quantitatively profile the sensory properties of 21 commercial vegetable-containing infant foods and one prepared in our laboratory. Eleven experienced panelists participated in 14.5 h of lexicon generation and training prior to rating all 22 products (in triplicate) for 14 taste, flavor, and texture attributes. Products that contained fruit were not only sweeter than products that did not contain fruit but were also higher in fruit flavors and lower in vegetable flavors. In general, sensory profiles were driven by the first ingredient in the product. Because few products had dark green vegetables as a first ingredient, dark green vegetable flavor was not prevalent in this category. Intracellular nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT), the rate-limiting enzyme in nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) salvage pathway, is involved in many inflammatory disorders. Recently, the sarcopenia index (SI) was developed as a simple screening tool based upon the serum creatinine to cystatin C (CysC) ratio.     Between January 2010 and December 2018, patients with angina pectoris and obstructive *** requiring coronary artery intervention were enrolled. Patients with SI<120 (n=214, 28%) were older, more likely to be of the female gender, and to have more hypertension and congestive heart failure (all p<0.05). The prevalence of major adverse cardiovascular events (****) composed of myocardial infarction, stroke, and all-cause mortality was higher in patients with lower SI (p=0.026). After adjusting for potential confounding factors, multivariate Cox regression (hazard ratio 2.08, p=0.045) and Kaplan-Meier analyses (log-rank p=0.0371) revealed that lower SI was significantly associated with a higher prevalence of ****.

This study concludes that (1) the wood-boring longhorn beetles showed attributes of host-specificity to a certain degree at the community level, (2) biotic (host plant specificity) and abiotic (climatic gradients) factors jointly shaped community composition of this species along the multiple spatial scales, (3) biotic interactions have a prominent effect on the community composition of this species at local-scale while macroclimatic gradients impose the major control on it at macro-scale. This is based on the observation that malignant cells express a spectrum of human endogenous retroviral elements (HERVs) which can be transcriptionally boosted by HDAC inhibitors. The endoretroviral gene HERV-V2 codes for an envelope protein, which resembles syncytins. It is significantly overexpressed upon exposure to HDAC inhibitors and can be effectively targeted by simultaneous application of TLR7/8 agonists, triggering intrinsic apoptosis. We demonstrated that this synergistic cytotoxic effect was accompanied by the functional disruption of the TLR7/8-NFκB, Akt/PKB, and Ras-MEK-ERK signalling pathways. CRISPR/Cas9 ablation of TLR7 and HERV-V1/V2 curtailed apoptosis significantly, proving the pivotal role of these elements in driving cell death. This study aimed to explore both the short-term and long-term effects of air pollutants on the risk of ischemic heart disease after adjusting for meteorological factors. The Korean National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort from 2002 to 2013 was used. Overall, 2155 participants with ischemic heart disease and 8620 control participants were analyzed. The meteorological data and air pollution data, including SO2 (ppm), NO2 (ppm), O3 (ppm), CO (ppm), and particulate matter (PM)10 (μg/m3), were analyzed using conditional logistic regression. Subgroup analyses were performed according to age, sex, income, and region of residence. One-month exposure to SO2 was related to 1.36-fold higher odds for ischemic heart disease (95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.06-1.75). One-year exposure to SO2, O3, and PM10 was associated with 1.58- (95% CI 1.01-2.47), 1.53- (95% CI 1.27-1.84), and 1.14 (95% CI 1.02-1.26)-fold higher odds for ischemic heart disease. In subgroup analyses, the ≥ 60-year-old group, men, individuals with low income, and urban groups demonstrated higher odds associated with 1-month exposure to SO2. This study aimed to explore both the short-term and long-term effects of air pollutants on the risk of ischemic heart disease after adjusting for meteorological factors. The Korean National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening Cohort from 2002 to 2013 was used. Overall, 2155 participants with ischemic heart disease and 8620 control participants were analyzed. The meteorological data and air pollution data, including SO2 (ppm), NO2 (ppm), O3 (ppm), CO (ppm), and particulate matter (PM)10 (μg/m3), were analyzed using conditional logistic regression. Subgroup analyses were performed according to age, sex, income, and region of residence. One-month exposure to SO2 was related to 1.36-fold higher odds for ischemic heart disease (95% confidence interval [95% CI] 1.06-1.75). One-year exposure to SO2, O3, and PM10 was associated with 1.58- (95% CI 1.01-2.47), 1.53- (95% CI 1.27-1.84), and 1.14 (95% CI 1.02-1.26)-fold higher odds for ischemic heart disease. In subgroup analyses, the ≥ 60-year-old group, men, individuals with low income, and urban groups demonstrated higher odds associated with 1-month exposure to SO2. We evaluated an association between NSAID use and outcomes of Covid-19. This study was a retrospective observational cohort study based on insurance benefit claims sent to the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service of Korea by May 15, 2020. These claims comprised all Covid-19-tested cases and history of medical service use for the past 3 years in these patients. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality, and the secondary outcome was need for ventilator care. Among 7590 patients diagnosed with Covid-19, two distinct cohorts were generated based on NSAID or acetaminophen prescription within 2 weeks before Covid-19 diagnosis. To uncover the genetic basis of its alkaline adaptation, three populations, including one alkali form from Lake Dali Nor (DL), one freshwater form from its adjacent sister Lake Ganggeng Nor (GG), and one freshwater form from its historical origin, namely, the Songhua River (SH), were analyzed using genome resequencing technology. A total of 679.82 Gb clean data and 38,091,163 high-quality single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) loci were detected in the three populations. Nucleotide diversity and population structure analysis revealed that the DL and GG populations have lower nucleotide diversities and different genetic structures than those of the SH population.
