There is limited information about sexual knowledge and behaviours in adults with complex care needs, including those with 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q) which represents a group predisposed to intellectual disabilities.
We conducted sexual health assessments with 67 adults with 22q, examining whether those with knowledge deficits and a history of engaging in sexual activities with others would be more likely to engage in high-risk behaviours.
The majority (65.7%) of adults with 22q were sexually active with others; most (70.1%) had sexual knowledge deficits. Those with intellectual disabilities were more likely (p=.0012) to have deficits in certain topics. In the sexually active subgroup, most (81.8%) engaged in high-risk sexual behaviours, regardless of intellectual disability or knowledge deficits.
The results suggest a need for increased dialogue, repeated education, genetic counselling and preventive healthcare measures related to sexuality in 22q and potentially in other complex care conditions.

Educators are often challenged with designing, implementing, and evaluating programs in the context of their professional practice, particularly those in response to dynamic and emerging social needs. This article explores the synergies and intersections of two approaches-quality improvement and program evaluation-and the potential utility of their combinations within our field to design, evaluate, and most importantly, improve educational programming. We argue that the inclusion of established quality improvement frameworks within program evaluation provides a proven mechanism for driving change, can optimize programming within the multi-contextual education systems, and, ultimately, that these two approaches are complementary to one another. These combinations hold great promise for optimizing programming in alignment with social missions, where it has been difficult for institutions worldwide to generate and capture evidence of social accountability.Somatostatin analogues play an important role in the therapy of neuroendocrine tumors by binding to somatostatin receptors on the surface of cancer cells. In this work, we analyze the receptor-binding affinity and in vitro stability of a novel ultra-short somatostatin analogue Thz-Phe-D-Trp-Lys-Thr-DOTA (DOTA-P4). This conjugate is successfully radiolabeled with 44 Sc, 90 Y, 152 Eu, and 207 Bi, characterized and validated by thin layer and high-performance liquid chromatography. The optimum conditions for M-DOTA-P4 labeling are found. In vitro stability studies are performed in saline, in the presence of serum proteins, and with biologically relevant metal cations. All complexes demonstrate no cation release in vitro within 4-24 h. The conformations of DOTA-conjugates are studied by circular dichroism spectroscopy. The circular dichroism spectra of DOTA-P4 conjugates show a negative peak at 225 nm, which may correspond to the required β-sheet conformation. The binding to somatostatin receptors of types 2 and 5 is performed with the IMR-32 cells at 4°C, with non-specific binding representing 26% of the total binding. A two-line approximation of the Scatchard plot results in the apparent dissociation constants of 0.10 and 2.25 nM. It is shown that the chelator position with respect to the amino acid sequence significantly affects the labeling conditions with cations of different ionic radii. For the first time, the binding of a linear type ultra-short peptide conjugate with DOTA to somatostatin receptors is demonstrated. The obtained results are promising for experiments with DOTA-P4 in vivo in **** with inoculated tumors.
The aim of this study is to investigate the histopathological and biochemical efficacy of vitamin D on oxidative damage and fibrosis in rat ovaries induced by experimental hyperthyroidism.
This study is a comparative, prospective experimental rat study. Sprague-Dawley female rats were divided into four groups. Only distilled water was given to the rats in group 1 for 25 days. In group 2, 100 μg/day L-thyroxine was given to rats for 25 days. In Group 3, 100 μg/day L-thyroxine and 200 IU/day vitamin D were given to rats for 25 days. In group 4, only 200 IU/day vitamin D was administered for 25 days.
This study is the first to demonstrate the protective effect of vitamin D against ovarian damage caused by experimental hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism caused fibrotic degenerative changes in the ovaries and an increase in the fibrillin 1 score. It caused serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels to increase and serum E2 levels to decrease. In addition, malondialdehyde (MDA) and total oxidant status (TOS) levels increased in rats with hyperthyroidism. Vitamin D decreased MDA and TOS values and increased total antioxidant status (TAS) values in rats with hyperthyroidism. It also increased TSH values by causing a decrease in TT3 and TT4 values. It decreased fibrosis, follicle degeneration, stromal degeneration, and fibrillin 1 score in ovarian tissue.

We find that the median subject has preferences regarding income-related health inequality that are in line with the ethical assumptions implied by the concentration index, but put higher weight on the poor than what is implied by the Gini index of income inequality. We find that women and individuals with a poorer health status put higher weight on the poor than men and healthier individuals. Ethically flexible inequality measures, such as the s-Gini index and the extended concentration index, imply that researchers have to choose from a toolbox of infinitely many inequality indices. Our findings suggest that rewiring the flux of pyruvate to the TCA cycle by deletion of PKM or PKM1 reduced cell growth and increased specific productivity in CHO cells. Overall, PKM1-KO cells had similar product quality and comparable or better titers relative to the WT cells, hence, targeted deletion of this isoform for curbing lactogenic behavior in CHO cells is suggested.Assisted reproduction technologies for clinical and research purposes rely on a brief in vitro embryo culture which, despite decades of progress, remain suboptimal in comparison to the physiological environment. One promising tool to improve this technique is the development of bespoke microfluidic chambers. Here we present and validate a new microfluidic device in polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for the culture of early mouse embryos. Device material and design resulted embryo compatible and elicit minimal stress. Blastocyst formation, hatching, attachment and outgrowth formation on fibronectin-coated devices were similar to traditional microdrop methods. Total blastocyst cell number and allocation to the trophectoderm and inner cell mass lineages were unaffected. The devices were designed for culture of 10-12 embryos. Development rates, mitochondrial polarization and metabolic turnover of key energy substrates glucose, pyruvate and lactate were consistent with groups of 10 embryos in microdrop controls. Increasing group size to 40 embryos per device was associated with increased variation in development rates and altered metabolism. Device culture did not perturb blastocyst gene expression but did elicit changes in embryo metabolome, which can be ascribed to substrate leaching from PDMS and warrant further investigation.The increasing exploitation of graphene-based materials (GBMs) is driven by their unique properties and structures, which ignite the imagination of scientists and engineers. At the same time, the very properties that make them so useful for applications lead to growing concerns regarding their potential impacts on human health and the environment. Since GBMs are inert to reaction, various attempts of surface functionalization are made to make them reactive. Herein, surface functionalization of GBMs, including those intentionally designed for specific applications, as well as those unintentionally acquired (e.g., protein corona formation) from the environment and biota, are reviewed through the lenses of nanotoxicity and design of safe materials (safe-by-design). Uptake and toxicity of functionalized GBMs and the underlying mechanisms are discussed and linked with the surface functionalization. Previous work in Huntington's disease (HD) has shown that a sense of meaning and purpose (M&P) is positively associated with positive affect and well-being (PAW); however, it was unknown whether HD-validated patient-reported outcomes (PROs) influence this association and how M&P impacts PROs in the future. Our study was designed to examine if HD-validated PROs moderate the relationship between M&P and PAW and to evaluate if baseline M&P predicts 12- and 24-month changes in HD-validated PROs.
This was a longitudinal, multicenter study to develop several PROs (e.g., specific for the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social domains) for people with HD (HDQLIFE). The sample consisted of 322 people with HD (n=50 prodromal, n=171 early-stage manifest, and n=101 late-stage manifest HD). A single, multivariate linear mixed-effects model was performed with PAW as the outcome predicted by main effects for M&P and several moderators (i.e., an HD-validated PRO) and interactions between M&P and a given PRO. Linear-mixed models were also used to assess if baseline M&P predicted HD-validated PROs at 12 and 24months.
Higher M&P was positively associated with higher PAW regardless of the magnitude of symptom burden, as represented by HD-validated PROs, and independent of disease stage. In our primary analysis, baseline M&P predicted increased PAW and decreased depression, anxiety, anger, emotional/behavioral disruptions, and cognitive decline at 12 and 24months across all disease stages.
These findings parallel those seen in the oncology population and have implications for adapting and developing psychotherapeutic and palliative HD interventions.

RhoA GTPase, or its upstream activator ARHGEF11, is fused to BcLOV4, a photoreceptor that can be dynamically recruited to the plasma membrane by a light-regulated protein-lipid electrostatic interaction with the inner leaflet. Direct membrane recruitment of these proteins induces potent contractile signaling sufficient to separate adherens junctions with as little as one pulse of blue light. Induced cytoskeletal morphology changes are dependent on the alignment of the spatially patterned stimulation with the underlying cell polarization. RhoA-mediated cytoskeletal activation drives yes-associated protein (YAP) nuclear localization within minutes and consequent mechanotransduction verified by YAP-transcriptional enhanced associate domain transcriptional activity. These single-transgene tools do not require protein binding partners for dynamic membrane localization and permit spatiotemporally precise control over RhoA signaling to advance the study of its diverse regulatory roles in cell migration, morphogenesis, and cell cycle maintenance.Insect jumping and other explosive animal movements often make use of elastic-recoil mechanisms to enhance performance. These mechanisms circumvent the intrinsic rate limitations on muscle shortening, allowing for greater power production as well as thermal robustness of the associated movements. Here we examine the performance and temperature effects on jumping in the house cricket, Acheta domesticus, using high-speed imaging and inverse dynamics analysis. We find that adult house crickets jumped with greater performance than would be possible using direct muscle shortening, generating a peak power of over 2000 W/kg of muscle mass and maintaining high performance across the entire tested range of body temperatures (12-32°C). Performance declined at the lowest temperature (12°C), yet jump power still exceeds available muscle power. These results reveal that Acheta domesticus makes use of an elastic-recoil mechanism that enhances both the performance and thermal robustness of jumping.

Membrane nanotubes (NTs) and their networks play an important role in intracellular membrane transport and intercellular communications. The transport characteristics of the NT lumen resemble those of conventional solid-state nanopores. However, unlike the rigid pores, the soft membrane wall of the NT can be deformed by forces driving the transport through the NT lumen. This intrinsic coupling between the NT geometry and transport properties remains poorly explored. Using synchronized fluorescence microscopy and conductance measurements, we revealed that the NT shape was changed by both electric and hydrostatic forces driving the ionic and solute fluxes through the NT lumen. Far from the shape instability, the strength of the force effect is determined by the lateral membrane tension and is scaled with membrane elasticity so that the NT can be operated as a linear elastic sensor. Near shape instabilities, the transport forces triggered large-scale shape transformations, both stochastic and periodic. The periodic oscillations were coupled to a vesicle passage along the NT axis, resembling peristaltic transport. The oscillations were parametrically controlled by the electric field, making NT a highly nonlinear nanofluidic circuitry element with biological and technological implications.Minicircles (MCs) are DNA molecules that are produced in Escherichia coli by replicating a parental plasmid (PP) and inducing its site-specific intramolecular recombination into miniplasmid (MP; containing the prokaryotic backbone) and ** molecules (comprised by the eukaryotic cassette). The determination of the recombination efficiency and the monitoring of PP, ** and MP species during processing and in the final product are critical aspects of ** manufacturing. This work describes a real-time PCR method for the specific identification of PP, MP or ** that uses sets of primers specific for each species. The method was evaluated using artificial mixtures of (i) PP and MP, (ii) PP and ** and (iii) MP and ** that were probed for all three DNA molecules. The ratio of molecules of each DNA species in these mixtures were determined with differences lower than 10% relatively to the expected ratio of the species in 90% of the mixtures. Next, the recombination efficiency was successfully estimated by analysing pre-purified DNA samples obtained from cell cultures. A standard deviation less then 2% was obtained between replicas and results closely correlated with those obtained by densitometry analysis of agarose gels. Stromal peeling occurred along a plane lined with a continuous layer of keratocytes separating pre-Descemet membrane (DM) stroma, DM and endothelium from the anterior stroma. Pre-DM stroma was made of poorly organized lamellae containing widely-spaced randomly arranged collagen fibrils.

Data generated from retrospective studies on primary mediastinal B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL) outcome are valuable as no prospective phase 3 trials have been conducted in this rare type of lymphoma.
Our goal was to assess the long-term outcome of 41 patients with PMBCL who were treated at the Kuwait Cancer Center. We evaluated two types of multidrug treatment, R-CHOP (rituximab, vincristine, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, and prednisone) and DA-EPOCH-R (etoposide, prednisone, vincristine, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, and rituximab), and determined overall survival and complete response (CR) as primary endpoints.
In our cohort, 27 (66%) cases were treated with R-CHOP and 14 (34%) cases were treated with DA-EPOCH-R. The overall median follow-up time was 34months. Among the patients treated with R-CHOP, 23 out of 27 (92.6%) patients achieved CR; similarly, 10 out of 14 patients (85.7%) in the DA-EPOCH-R group achieved CR after initial treatment. There were no differences in OS between patients treated with R-CHOP versus DA-EPOCH-R.
Membrane nanotubes (NTs) and their networks play an important role in intracellular membrane transport and intercellular communications. The transport characteristics of the NT lumen resemble those of conventional solid-state nanopores. However, unlike the rigid pores, the soft membrane wall of the NT can be deformed by forces driving the transport through the NT lumen. This intrinsic coupling between the NT geometry and transport properties remains poorly explored. Using synchronized fluorescence microscopy and conductance measurements, we revealed that the NT shape was changed by both electric and hydrostatic forces driving the ionic and solute fluxes through the NT lumen. Far from the shape instability, the strength of the force effect is determined by the lateral membrane tension and is scaled with membrane elasticity so that the NT can be operated as a linear elastic sensor. Near shape instabilities, the transport forces triggered large-scale shape transformations, both stochastic and periodic. The periodic oscillations were coupled to a vesicle passage along the NT axis, resembling peristaltic transport. The oscillations were parametrically controlled by the electric field, making NT a highly nonlinear nanofluidic circuitry element with biological and technological implications.Minicircles (MCs) are DNA molecules that are produced in Escherichia coli by replicating a parental plasmid (PP) and inducing its site-specific intramolecular recombination into miniplasmid (MP; containing the prokaryotic backbone) and MC molecules (comprised by the eukaryotic cassette). The determination of the recombination efficiency and the monitoring of PP, MC and MP species during processing and in the final product are critical aspects of MC manufacturing. This work describes a real-time PCR method for the specific identification of PP, MP or MC that uses sets of primers specific for each species. The method was evaluated using artificial mixtures of (i) PP and MP, (ii) PP and MC and (iii) MP and MC that were probed for all three DNA molecules. The ratio of molecules of each DNA species in these mixtures were determined with differences lower than 10% relatively to the expected ratio of the species in 90% of the mixtures. Next, the recombination efficiency was successfully estimated by analysing pre-purified DNA samples obtained from cell cultures. A standard deviation less then 2% was obtained between replicas and results closely correlated with those obtained by densitometry analysis of agarose gels. Members of Plectosphaerella inhabit different substrates, including plants, soil and insects, and most species are pathogens causing large losses in agriculture. During a survey of endophytic fungi in aquatic plants in southwest China, 112 strains of Plectosphaerella were isolated, representing two new species, P. endophytica sp. nov. and P. sichuanensis sp. nov., as well as two known species, P. cucumerina and P. pauciseptata. The novel taxa are described and illustrated here using combined morphological and multi-locus phylogenetic (LSU-ITS-TEF-1α-TUB2) analyses. Our result revealed Plectosphaerella species inhabiting within aquatic plants in southwest China, and the separation frequency of each species was presented.
Museums and other institutions curating natural history collections (NHCs) are fundamental entities to many scientific disciplines, as they house data and reference material for varied research projects. As such, biological specimens preserved in NHCs represent accessible physical records of the living world's history. They provide useful information regarding the presence and distribution of different taxonomic groups through space and time. Despite the importance of biological museum specimens, their potential to answer scientific questions, pertinent to the necessities of our current historical context, is often under-explored.The currently-known wild bee fauna of Luxembourg comprises 341 registered species distributed amongst 38 different genera. However, specimens stored in the archives of local NHCs represent an untapped resource to update taxonomic lists, including potentially overlooked findings relevant to the development of national conservation strategies.
We re-investigated the wild bee collec Sphecodes majalis (Pérez, 1903). Additionally, the presence of Nomada sexfasciata (Panzer, 1799), which inexplicably had been omitted by the most current species list, can be re-confirmed. Altogether, our findings increase the number of recorded wild bee species in Luxembourg to 346. Moreover, the results highlight the crucial role of NHCs as repositories of our knowledge of the natural world.The genus Lagenophora Cass. is taxonomically revised for New Caledonia with two species recognised. Lagenophora sinuosa Lannuzel, Gâteblé & Jian Wang ter, sp. nov. is endemic to New Caledonia and the other, L. sublyrata (Cass.) A.R.Bean & Jian Wang ter occurs there and in many other countries from the region. Both are fully described and illustrated. An identification key is provided, as are notes on the distribution (including maps), habitat, phenology and conservation status. The generic placement of the new species is also discussed.A peculiar habitat type found in the savannahs of Central Cuba, Villa Clara Province and characterised by the presence of a surface gravel layer of "perdigones", an assemblage of small ferralitic concretions, upon the "mocarrero" soil prevailing in the area, is described. On sterile gravel patches, only one species grows Elytraria serpens, a new species described and named here. It is noteworthy for possessing long and wide creeping, stoloniform subterranean peduncles with apical gemmae developing into rooting leaf rosettes enabling vegetative propagation. The new species is close to E. shaferi and considered to derive from the latter by adaptive evolution, enabling it to survive in its hostile habitat, sheltered from the competition of other plant species. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) exhibit phenotypic plasticity in atherosclerotic plaques, and among other approaches, has been modeled in vitro by cholesterol loading.
Meta-analysis of scRNA-seq data from VSMC lineage traced cells across five experiments of murine atherosclerosis was performed. In vivo expression profiles were compared to three in vitro datasets of VSMCs loaded with cholesterol and three datasets of polarized macrophages.
We identified 24 cell clusters in the meta-analysis of single cells from mouse atherosclerotic lesions with notable heterogeneity across studies, especially for macrophage populations. Trajectory analysis of VSMC lineage positive cells revealed several possible paths of state transitions with one traversing from contractile VSMC to macrophages by way of a proliferative cell cluster. Transcriptome comparisons between in vivo and in vitro states underscored that data from three in vitro cholesterol-treated VSMC experiments did not mirror cell state transitions observ-loading in vitro is insufficient to model the VSMC cell state transitions observed in vivo, which underscores the need to develop better cell models. To investigate the effect and molecular mechanism of vitamin D3 supplement by dietary on anxiety-like behavior during nicotine withdrawal, male C57/BL6 **** were divided into four groups vehicle, nicotine only, vitamin D3 only, and nicotine plus vitamin D3. **** were administrated with nicotine in drinking water (200 µg/mL), and vitamin D3 in feed for 6 weeks. During nicotine withdrawal, vitamin D3-treated **** showed significantly less anxiety-like behavior by an open-field test and marble buried test that performed an increase in the duration of the central zone and a decrease buried marble, respectively. Moreover, vitamin D3 supplementation attenuated the hippocampal NR2A expression on both protein and mRNA levels in nicotine and vitamin D3-treated ****. Our data showed that dietary supplementation with vitamin D3 ameliorated nicotine withdrawal-induced anxiety, which may be related to downregulation of NR2A expression in hippocampus. The broad applications of QDs emission wavelengths based on the crystal size can change when they are exposed to different environments like seawater. CdSTe QDs were synthesized in a microwave system at 60, 120, 150, and 180 °C producing different crystal sizes that fluoresce blue (510nm), green (538nm), yellow (566 nm), and red (636nm), respectively. A redshift of the fluorescence indicating possible agglomeration or increase in the crystal size was observed in artificial seawater (40 g/L). Also, a broadening of the emission peaks for the smallest crystals was observed when the CdSTe QDs were in contact with artificial seawater for 72 hours. When A. salina was exposed to CdSTe QDs in artificial seawater, an ingest without loss of fluorescence was observed using fluorescence microscopy. The highest cadmium accumulation (2.2 mg/Kg) into A. salina was observed with the largest crystal synthesized at 180° C, indicating an effect of the crystal size. Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) exhibit phenotypic plasticity in atherosclerotic plaques, and among other approaches, has been modeled in vitro by cholesterol loading. Meta-analysis of scRNA-seq data from VSMC lineage traced cells across five experiments of murine atherosclerosis was performed. In vivo expression profiles were compared to three in vitro datasets of VSMCs loaded with cholesterol and three datasets of polarized macrophages. We identified 24 cell clusters in the meta-analysis of single cells from mouse atherosclerotic lesions with notable heterogeneity across studies, especially for macrophage populations. Trajectory analysis of VSMC lineage positive cells revealed several possible paths of state transitions with one traversing from contractile VSMC to macrophages by way of a proliferative cell cluster. Transcriptome comparisons between in vivo and in vitro states underscored that data from three in vitro cholesterol-treated VSMC experiments did not mirror cell state transitions observ-loading in vitro is insufficient to model the VSMC cell state transitions observed in vivo, which underscores the need to develop better cell models. To investigate the effect and molecular mechanism of vitamin D3 supplement by dietary on anxiety-like behavior during nicotine withdrawal, male C57/BL6 mice were divided into four groups vehicle, nicotine only, vitamin D3 only, and nicotine plus vitamin D3. Mice were administrated with nicotine in drinking water (200 µg/mL), and vitamin D3 in feed for 6 weeks. During nicotine withdrawal, vitamin D3-treated mice showed significantly less anxiety-like behavior by an open-field test and marble buried test that performed an increase in the duration of the central zone and a decrease buried marble, respectively. Moreover, vitamin D3 supplementation attenuated the hippocampal NR2A expression on both protein and mRNA levels in nicotine and vitamin D3-treated mice. Our data showed that dietary supplementation with vitamin D3 ameliorated nicotine withdrawal-induced anxiety, which may be related to downregulation of NR2A expression in hippocampus. The broad applications of QDs emission wavelengths based on the crystal size can change when they are exposed to different environments like seawater. CdSTe QDs were synthesized in a microwave system at 60, 120, 150, and 180 °C producing different crystal sizes that fluoresce blue (510nm), green (538nm), yellow (566 nm), and red (636nm), respectively. A redshift of the fluorescence indicating possible agglomeration or increase in the crystal size was observed in artificial seawater (40 g/L). Also, a broadening of the emission peaks for the smallest crystals was observed when the CdSTe QDs were in contact with artificial seawater for 72 hours. When A. salina was exposed to CdSTe QDs in artificial seawater, an ingest without loss of fluorescence was observed using fluorescence microscopy. The highest cadmium accumulation (2.2 mg/Kg) into A. salina was observed with the largest crystal synthesized at 180° C, indicating an effect of the crystal size. It is well established that there is a strong independent relationship among infarct size measured within 1 month after reperfusion and all-cause death and hospitalization for HF The fact that cardiovascular mortality was significantly reduced with the SGLT2 inhibitors, fuels the assumption that this class of therapies may attenuate myocardial infarct size. Experimental evidence demonstrates that SGLT2 inhibitors exert cardioprotective effects in animal models of acute myocardial infarction through improved function during the ischemic episode, reduction of infarct size and a subsequent attenuation of heart failure development. Neither total Fe nor labile Fe pool content was changed in the three seasons. Superoxide anion generation rate was 3-fold higher in spring as compared to winter and summer samples. Catalase content in spring cells were significantly higher as compared to winter (60%) and summer (3-fold increase) but glutathione-S-transferase activity only increased compared to summer season (125% increase). Lipid radical content in spring samples was 140 and 50% higher as compared to cells from winter and summer, respectively. Nitric oxide and nitro-tyrosine content were significantly higher in samples from spring as compared to values obtained either in winter or summer cells. Considering the aspects that influence metabolism, changes in temperature seem to mainly affect the oxidative over the nitrosative condition of the hemocytes. We evaluated venom enzyme variation for eleven cobra species and three N. kaouthia populations using SDS-PAGE venom fingerprinting and numerous enzyme assays. Acetylcholinesterase and PLA2 activities were the most variable between species, and PLA2 activity was significantly different between Malaysian and Thailand N. kaouthia populations. Venom metalloproteinase activity was low and significantly different among most species, but levels were identical for N. kaouthia populations; minor variation in venom L-amino acid oxidase and phosphodiesterase activities were seen between cobra species. Naja siamensis venom lacked the α-fibrinogenolytic activity common to other cobra venoms. In addition, venom from N. siamensis had no detectable metalloproteinase activity and exhibited an SDS-PAGE profile with reduced abundance of higher mass proteins.

Epoxy resin (EP) has been extensively used in the field of insulation for its excellent electrical strength, mechanical property, chemical stability, and low cost. In this paper, computer molecular simulation is used to analyze the influence of nano-POSS (Nano-Polyhedral Oligomericsils Esquioxane) doping on the properties of epoxy composite from the micro point of view, which can provide a scientific basis for the optimization of the epoxy system. Two kinds of nano-POSS fillers with different mass fractions were doped into the base material of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) and 3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl 3,4-epoxycyclohexanecar (OSC). By molecular dynamics (MD) simulation the influence of nanofillers on the microstructure, thermal and mechanical properties of the composite were analyzed. Simulation results show that the doping of nano-POSS can improve the thermal and mechanical properties of the epoxy composite. Different nano-POSS has little effect on the glass transition temperature (Tg), coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), and mechanical properties of the epoxy system, while the filling amount has an obvious improvement effect. Compared with EP/methyl-POSS system, the thermal and mechanical properties of the EP/phenyl-POSS system are better. At the same time, the doping of nano-POSS changed the microstructure parameters of epoxy composite. With the increase of nano-POSS filler content, fractional free volume (FFV) and mean square displacement (MSD) of both EP/POSS systems increased after the first drop. Besides, when the content of nano-POSS exceeded a certain range, the aggregation of filler itself hindered the accumulation of epoxy molecular chain segments.Conformational search for the most stable geometry connection of 16 sets of polydopamine (PDA) tetramer subunits has been systematically investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Our results indicated that the more planar subunits are, the more stable they are. This finding is in good agreement with recent experimental observations, which have suggested that PDA are composed of the nearly planar subunits that appear to be stacked together via the π-π interactions to form graphite-like layered aggregates associated with the balance of the intramolecular hydrogen bonds and steric effects from the indole and catechol moieties. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of 16 spherical clusters of the tetramer subunits of PDA in the gas and aqueous phase were performed at 298 K and confirmed the stability of supramolecular tetramer aggregates. The complex formation and binding energy of all 16 clusters are very strong although the shapes of the clusters in aqueous solution are not spherical and are very **** different from those in the gas phase. The aggregations of all 16 clusters in aqueous solution were also confirmed from the profiles of the Kratky plot and the radius of gyration of all clusters. Our MD results in both gas phase and aqueous solution pointed out that there are high possibilities of aggregations of the 16 kinds of tetramer subunits although the conformations of each tetramer subunit are not flat. In summary, this work brings an insight into the controversial structure of PDA tetramer units and explains some of the important structural features found in the aqueous phase in comparison to the gas phase.The spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2) interacts with the ACE2 receptor in human cells and starts the infection of COVID-19 disease. Given the importance of spike protein's interaction with ACE2 receptor, we selected some antiviral peptides of venom scorpion such as HP1090, meucin-13, and meucin-18 and performed docking and molecular docking analysis of them with the RBD domain of spike protein. The results showed that meucin-18 (FFGHLFKLATKIIPSLFQ) had better interaction with the RBD domain of spike protein than other peptides. We also designed some mutations in meucin-18 and investigated their interactions with the RBD domain. The results revealed that the A9T mutation had more effective interaction with the RBD domain than the meucin-18 and was able to inhibit spike protein's interaction with ACE2 receptor. Few studies are covered in this theme, when treated about Apis mellifera honey, and it has been observed that in the last 12 years, the few researches have only tried to show the viability of using the technique without quantifying the present compounds, while others demonstrate the fluorescent aspects, but performing through techniques considered more expensive.

The results showed that meucin-18 (FFGHLFKLATKIIPSLFQ) had better interaction with the RBD domain of spike protein than other peptides. We also designed some mutations in meucin-18 and investigated their interactions with the RBD domain. The results revealed that the A9T mutation had more effective interaction with the RBD domain than the meucin-18 and was able to inhibit spike protein's interaction with ACE2 receptor. One hundred and eighty-seven patients (57.8% male, 59.9±10.9 years old, 44.9% decompensated ones) with cirrhosis of various etiologies were enrolled. The patients' DI was assessed using three 24h recalls, which were analyzed regarding macronutrients' intake, food groups consumption, adherence to the Mediterranean diet and meal patterns. The Goldberg cut-off limits for the ratio of energy intake to resting energy expenditure were used to evaluate dietary underreporting and patients were accordingly classified as low or adequate energy reporters (LERs and AERs).
Among the AERs (n=91, 48.7%) only 29.7% and 31.9% met current recommendations regarding energy and protein intake, accordingly. Patients reported low intake of several healthy food groups and low adherence to the Mediterranean diet. They reported a median of 4.3 eating episodes per day and they frequently omitted late evening snack. Nevertheless, no statistically significant associations were found between parameters of DI and annual and two-year survival.

The association between drinking water consumption and adiposity has been poorly explored. Therefore, we aimed to analyse the associations between the frequency of drinking water consumption and body weight and waist circumference changes in an elderly Mediterranean cohort.
A total of 1832 elderly participants (aged 55-75 years) with metabolic syndrome from the PREDIMED-Plus study with baseline data on drinking water and other beverages assessed by a validated 32-item Spanish fluid-intake questionnaire and with data on body weight (BW) and waist circumference (WC) at 1-year and 2-year were included in these prospective analyses. Multivariable linear regression models were fitted to assess the β-coefficients and 95% confidence interval (CI) for BW and WC changes in terms of categories of baseline drinking water consumption (tap water and bottled water). The theoretical effect on BW and WC of replacing several beverages with drinking water was assessed using mathematical models.

The secondary endpoint is to describe the resulting body composition values (as percentage and indexes) in this population.
The study enrolled adult in-patients with mild to severe obesity (classified with class I, II and III obesity) undergoing clinical care rehabilitation program for obesity complications and weight loss. BIA values were grouped by sex, BMI and age classes.
A total of 8303 patients with obesity, aged 18 to 90y, were studied. The Resistance (Rz) and Reactance (Xc) were reported by sex, age and BMI classes. After weight reduction by VLCKD, differences were found at 988 CpG sites (786 unique genes). The VLCKD altered methylation levels in patients with obesity had high resemblance with those from normal weight volunteers and was concomitant with a downregulation of DNA methyltransferases (DNMT)1, 3a and 3b.

China's success in fighting COVID-19 is based on a very strict implementation of a set of measures, including digital management. While other countries discuss relaxing the lock-down at a rate of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, China started local lock-downs at a rate of 3 per 100,000. We call for a public debate whether this policy would be feasible for more liberal countries as well.

While other countries discuss relaxing the lock-down at a rate of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants, China started local lock-downs at a rate of 3 per 100,000. We call for a public debate whether this policy would be feasible for more liberal countries as well.Many zoonotic diseases are weather sensitive, raising concern how their distribution and outbreaks will be affected by climate change. At northern high latitudes, the effect of global warming on especially winter conditions is strong. By using long term monitoring data (1980-1986 and 2003-2013) from Northern Europe on temperature, precipitation, an endemic zoonotic pathogen (Puumala orthohantavirus, PUUV) and its reservoir host (the bank vole, Myodes glareolus), we show that early winters have become increasingly wet, with a knock-on effect on pathogen transmission in its reservoir host population. Further, our study is the first to show a climate change effect on an endemic northern zoonosis, that is not induced by increased host abundance or distribution, demonstrating that climate change can also alter transmission intensity within host populations. Our results suggest that rainy early winters accelerate PUUV transmission in bank voles in winter, likely increasing the human zoonotic risk in the North.In this study, the mechanism that vitamin C (VC) regulates the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) through Wnt10b signaling was investigated in the gill of zebrafish (Danio rerio). The results showed that 0.5 and 1.0 g/kg VC diets induced the gene expression of Wnt10b, β-catenin, ***, CAT, and GSH-PX in gill. In addition, VC decreased the levels of H2O2, O2·- and ·OH, whereas the activities of ***, CAT, and GSH-PX were increased by VC in the gill of zebrafish. To evaluate the role of Wnt10b in regulating oxidative stress, Wnt10b RNA was further interfered and the gene expression and activities of antioxidant enzymes were detected in gill. The result of Wnt10b RNA interference showed that Wnt10b signaling played a key role in regulating the gene expression of ***, CAT, and GSH-PX. In all, VC may regulate the production of ROS through Wnt10b signaling in the gill of zebrafish (Danio rerio).Scientific findings and policy guidelines recommend integrating HIV and drug addiction prevention and care into community-based settings. Systematic capacity-building efforts are warranted to provide technical support for community health workers and improve their confidence in the integrated service provision. An intervention trial was conducted between 2018 and 2019 with 120 community health workers (CHW) from 60 communes in Vietnam's four provinces. The 60 intervention CHW received in-person training to enhance their HIV/addiction-related service knowledge and skills. Online support groups were established between trained CHW and local HIV and addiction specialists. The intervention outcomes were assessed using mixed-effects regression models with the data collected at baseline and every 3 months for 1 year. Adjusted analyses showed that intervention CHW reported a significant increase in the interaction with other treatment providers than the control group at 6 months and remained at the 12-month follow-up. The difference in the improvement of confidence in HIV/addiction-related service delivery between the intervention and control groups was significant at 6-month but became insignificant at the 12-month. Male CHW were more confident in providing services than female CHW at baseline, and gender differences in the changing patterns were observed over time. This capacity-building intervention demonstrated promising outcomes on CHW inter-agency collaborations and confidence in service delivery. Gender divides in healthcare professionals should be attended to in future studies.

The efficacy evaluation includes percent change in total kidney volume (TKV) and change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) before and after tolvaptan treatment.
Mean age was 49.7 ± 11.2years and 843 (51.7%) patients were male. Baseline TKV was 2158 ± 1346mL and eGFR was 44.4 ± 21.7mL/min/1.73m
. The majority of CKD patients were stage G3b (27.0%) and G4 (30.1%). Frequently reported ADRs were hepatic function abnormal (8.3%), thirst (8.2%), and hyperuricaemia (6.9%). The frequency of ALT elevation (> 30 and > 90IU/L) was slightly high (32.9 and 8.3%) to previous studies. After tolvaptan treatment, the annual rate of percentage change in TKV reduced from 11.68%/year to 2.73%/year (P < 0.0001). Similar results were also obtained for the effect on change in eGFR from -3.31 to -2.28mL/min/1.73 m
/year after initiation of tolvaptan treatment (P = 0.0403).
