We used "parametric g-formula" to study the causal effect of opium use on the time to death due to UGI. In this study, the information of 49946 individuals due to missingness were analyzed. So the median of follow-up time was 144 months and the prevalence of opium use was 17% (about 8489 persons). During the follow-up period, 593 (1.2%) death from upper gastrointestinal cancer were reported. The study showed that the effect of opium use on the time to UGI death was statistically significant (adjusted risk-ratio based on parametric g-formula = 1.31, 95% CI [1.04, 1.65]). Additionally, the Population Attributable Fraction (PAF) in UGI cancer deaths of opium use was estimated 5.3% (95% CI [0.6%, 11.3%]). Our results showed a causal effect of opium use on the intensity of upper gastrointestinal cancer death.
    Despite the efforts made by the government of Ethiopia, the community-based health insurance (CBHI) enrollment rate failed to reach the potential beneficiaries. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the enrollment status of households for community-based health insurance and associated factors in peripheral areas of Southern Ethiopia.

    We conducted a community based cross-sectional study design with both quantitative and qualitative methods. Systematic random sampling was employed to select 820 households from 27, April to 12 June 2018. A pretested structured questionnaire, in-depth interview, and focus group discussion guiding tool were used to obtain information. A binary logistic regression model was used to assess the association between independent and outcome variables. A P-Value of less than 0.05 was taken as a cutoff to declare association in multivariable analysis. Qualitative data were analyzed manually using the thematic analysis method.

    Out of 820 households, 273[33.30%; 95% CI 29.9-36.20] wemong communities through transparent management. Furthermore, the quality of care being given in public health facilities should be improved to encourage the community to be enrolled in CBHI.

Hence, this study performed an environmental evaluation using life cycle assessment for three different organization forms of grape production in Changli County, Hebei Province, China smallholder farmers, farmer-owned cooperatives and investor-owned firm-led cooperatives. Then the results of life cycle assessment were monetarized and cost benefit analysis was used to evaluate the economic performance of these three organization forms of grape production. The results demonstrate that investor-owned firm-led cooperatives present an overall improvement in environmental and economic performance with the lowest weighted environmental index (integrating all impact categories into a single score), the highest net profit and the highest total net benefit. The results also show a difference in potential improvement in environmental impacts and economic returns between cooperatives and smallholder farmers. Additionally, the production and application of organic and chemical fertilizer and pesticide have been identified as major contributors to total environmental damage.

  • In vivo, S-NACH at 20mg/kg subcutaneously (SC) had no effect on bleeding time compared to both tinzaparin and enoxaparin at 5mg/kg SC. S-NACH did not show any anti-IIa or anti-Xa activities in comparison to tinzaparin and enoxaparin (p<0.001).

Standardisation of kinematic approaches is important; however, the method that is currently recommended for building the joint coordinate system (JCS) to measure kinematics of the wrist is difficult to implement in vivo. In this study, a series of JCSs were examined and compared to the International Society of Biomechanics (ISB) recommendations in terms of landmark digitisation repeatability, coordinate frame creation repeatability, and secondary rotations during planar motion. No differences were found between the ISB JCS and 338 of 408 of the JCSs proposed in the study, meaning that the proposed alternative can be used without affecting the measured joint angles or repeatability of the JCS. Forearm frames that used a vector between the epicondyles to define the YZ plane of the forearm were found to create JCSs that produced secondary rotations greater than that which would be clinically detectable and thus, they should be avoided when defining a JCS. The remaining 338 coordinate systems can be used interchangeably; consequently, should there be any clinical limitations that result in missing landmarks, alternative coordinate systems can be used. A joint coordinate system created using the radial styloid, ulnar styloid, medial epicondyle, lateral epicondyle, the heads of the second and fifth metacarpal, and the base of the third metacarpal is recommended for quantifying kinematics in vivo.The aim of this study was to analyze biomechanically the impact of bone cement augmentation on the fixation strength and cut-out resistance of Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation (PFNA) and Trochanteric Fixation Nail Advanced (TFNA) head elements within the femoral head in a human cadaveric model with poor bone quality. Methodology Fifteen pairs of fresh-frozen human cadaveric femoral heads were randomized to three sets of five pairs each for center-center implantation of either TFNA blade, TFNA screw, or PFNA blade. By splitting the specimens of each pair for treatment with or without bone cement augmentation, six study groups were created.     Racial disparity in surgical access and postoperative outcomes after pulmonary lobectomy continues to be a concern and target for improvement; however, evidence of independent impact of race on complications is lacking. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of race/ethnicity on surgical outcomes after lobectomy for lung cancer and estimate the distribution of racial/ethnic groups among expected resectable lung cancer cases using a large national database.

    Patients who underwent lobectomy for lung cancer between 2005 and 2016 were identified in the American College of Surgeon National Surgical Quality Improvement Program. Preoperative characteristics and postoperative outcomes were compared between race/ethnicity groups in all patients and in propensity-matched cohorts, controlling for pertinent risk factors. Distribution of each race/ethnicity in the database was calculated relative to estimated numbers of patients with resectable lung cancer in the United States.

This study discriminates the Wakashio oil spill, which occurred off Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean on August 06, 2020 using the Sentinel-1 and 2 data acquired before, during and after the spill to understand the spreading of the spill and assess its impact on the coastal environment. The interpretation of VV polarization images of Synthetic-Aperture Radar (SAR) C-band (5.404 GHz) of Sentinel-1 acquired between July 5 and September 3, 2020 showed the occurrence and distribution of oil spill as dark warped patches. The images of band ratios (5 + 6)/7, (3 + 4)/2, (11 + 12)/8 and 3/2, (3 + 4)/2, (6 + 7)/5 of the Sentinel-2 data detected the oil spill. The images of decorrelated spectral bands 4, 3 and 2 distinguished the very thick, thick and thin oil spills in a different tone and showed clearly their distribution over the lagoon and offshore, and the accumulation of spilled oil on the coral reefs and along the coast.

  • We report a case of accessory breast cancer in the axillary region with some review of the literature.
    The clinical efficacy of nivolumab has been shown as a third-line treatment for advanced gastric cancer; however, nivolumab sometimes causes immune-related adverse events(irAEs). We retrospectively examined the clinical features and influence on treatment in cases of irAEs after nivolumab treatment.

    We retrospectively examined 43 patients who received nivolumab treatment at our institution between October 2017 and December 2019.

    The incidence of irAEs was 23.2%(10/43), and Grade 3 or higher irAEs included interstitial pneumonia, hypoadrenalism, Stevens- Johnson syndrome(SJS), and type 1 diabetes. Three patients showed long-term disease control after irAE onset. Meanwhile, SJS prevented patients from continuing treatment for gastric cancer.

    Nivolumab is effective in some patients with gastric cancer, while irAEs made subsequent treatment difficult. Trifluridine/tipiracil or irinotecan are also known to be effective as therapeutic drugs after third-line treatment for gastric cancer in addition to nivolumab; therefore, the choice of the third-line drug and management of irAEs owing to individual cases are considered desirable.

Video-assisted left S9-10 segmentectomy and right S1, S3 partial resection were performed separately for suspect of synchronous double lung cancer. Colonoscopy was performed because left lung tumor was difficult to distinguish between primary lung cancer and metastatic lung cancer. Colonoscopy did not find advanced cancer lesion. We diagnosed the left lung tumor as pT1b, cN0, cM0, Stage â… A2 intestinal adenocarcinoma. The right lung tumor was diagnosed as pT1c, cN0, cM0, Stage â… A3 papillary adenocarcinoma. Intestinal adenocarcinoma is a rare tissue subtype of lung adenocarcinoma and colonoscopy is useful modality for ruling out metastatic colorectal cancer.Granulomatous mastitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of unknown causes that forms a breast mass and may be difficult to distinguish from breast cancer on imaging studies. The patient was a woman in her 50's. Needle biopsy was performed for a mass in the upper outer quadrant of the right breast and revealed granulomatous mastitis. Breast magnetic resonance imaging showed that the tumor was malignant. Taking into account that there is a difference between histologic findings and imaging findings and that surgery after steroid therapy for granulomatous mastitis is more likely to cause complications, we decided to perform lumpectomy. The definitive pathological diagnosis was a triple negative, pT1cN0cM0 medullary carcinoma. Postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy was performed. The absence of axillary lymph-node metastasis was confirmed by right axillary sentinel lymph-node biopsy. Radiotherapy was performed on the preserved breast region. Even if granulomatous mastitis is diagnosed, biopsy should be repeated while paying attention to biopsy methods if there is a difference between pathological findings and image findings.We analyzed retrospectively the difference in treatment selection and prognosis according to timing of recurrence after radical resection of esophageal cancer. Of 190 patients who underwent radical esophagectomy for esophageal cancer from April 2010 to December 2017, 56 patients(29.5%)had recurrent diseases during the postoperative periods. These cases were divided into 27 cases with recurrence diagnosed less than 180 days after initial surgery(Group A)and 29 cases with recurrence diagnosed more than 180 days(Group B). Although there was no difference in the pathological staging, preoperative treatment, and type of recurrence between the 2 groups, there were significantly more cases with symptomatic recurrence in Group A. Surgical intervention was possible in 1 case in Group A and 10 cases in Group B, respectively. There was significantly more in Group B. Second-line treatment was possible in only 5 cases in Group B.     We report a case of accessory breast cancer in the axillary region with some review of the literature. The clinical efficacy of nivolumab has been shown as a third-line treatment for advanced gastric cancer; however, nivolumab sometimes causes immune-related adverse events(irAEs). We retrospectively examined the clinical features and influence on treatment in cases of irAEs after nivolumab treatment. We retrospectively examined 43 patients who received nivolumab treatment at our institution between October 2017 and December 2019. The incidence of irAEs was 23.2%(10/43), and Grade 3 or higher irAEs included interstitial pneumonia, hypoadrenalism, Stevens- Johnson syndrome(SJS), and type 1 diabetes. Three patients showed long-term disease control after irAE onset. Meanwhile, SJS prevented patients from continuing treatment for gastric cancer. Nivolumab is effective in some patients with gastric cancer, while irAEs made subsequent treatment difficult. CSF shunt failure was defined as a composite outcome including requirement for shunt revision, endoscopic third ventriculostomy, or shunt infection within 5 years of initial surgery. Performance of conventional statistical and 4 ML models were compared.

    Our cohort consisted of 1036 children undergoing CSF shunt placement, of whom 344 (33.2%) experienced shunt failure. Thirty-eight clinical, radiologic, surgical, and shunt-design variables were included in the ML analyses. Of all ML algorithms tested, the artificial neural network (ANN) had the strongest performance with an area under the receiver operator curve (AUC) of 0.71. The ANN had a specificity of 90% and a sensitivity of 68%, meaning that the ANN can effectively rule-in patients most likely to experience CSF shunt failure (i.e., high specificity) and moderately effective as a tool to rule-out patients at high risk of CSF shunt failure (i.e., moderately sensitive). The ANN was independently validated in 155 patients (prospectively collected, retrospectively analyzed).

    Primary pituitary abscesses are extraordinarily rare lesions, especially in pediatric populations, with very few cases described in the literature. Here we review this rare condition and discuss its management.

    Paediatric spine trauma is uncommon and is managed differently from adults due to the anatomical differences of the paediatric spine. The paediatric spine is less ossified, with lax ligaments and a higher fulcrum in the c-spine which results in a different pattern of injuries. The aim of this study is to provide a contemporary audit of paediatric spinal trauma.

    A retrospective review was conducted using the Trauma and Audit Research Network database at a major trauma centre (2011-2018). All patients < 18years old with a spine injury underwent case note and radiology review.

    A total of 72 patients (37, 51.4% male with an average age of 13.3 (± 5.9) years old) were identified. The most common mechanism of injury was road traffic collisions (n = 39, 54.2%). The most common sporting cause was motocross accidents (n = 6, 8.3%), and a further 6 (8.3%) patients had a suspected inflicted injury. Eight patients (11.1%) sustained a spinal cord injury. Twenty-seven (37.5%) patients underwent surgical intervention to treat their spinal injury.

    This series demonstrates the profile of injury mechanisms causing paediatric spinal injuries. Paediatric spine injuries continue to have the potential for lifelong disability and require careful, specialist management.     Multiple studies have observed increasing incidence of small intestinal (SI) neuroendocrine tumours (NETs). The aim of this study was to describe incidence, mortality and survival of SI NETs by sub-site and stage at diagnosis.

    Data on patients diagnosed with SI NETs between 2001 and 2015 were sourced from the Queensland Oncology Repository. Staging algorithms utilising several data sources were used to calculate stage at diagnosis (localised, regional or metastatic disease).

    We identified 778 SI NETs and of those 716 (92%) had either a documented or derived stage. Incidence doubled from 0.68 per 100000 to 1.42 per 100000 over the 15-year period. Most common site was ileum (49.1%) and 84.2% were of carcinoid morphology type.     Decreased cancer incidence and reported changes to clinical management indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic has delayed cancer diagnosis and treatment. This study aimed to develop and apply a flexible model to estimate the impact of delayed diagnosis and treatment on survival outcomes and healthcare costs based on a shift in the disease stage at treatment initiation.

    A model was developed and made publicly available to estimate population-level health economic outcomes by extrapolating and weighing stage-specific outcomes by the distribution of stages at treatment initiation. It was applied to estimate the impact of 3- and 6-month delays based on Australian data for stage I breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and lung cancer patients, and for T1 melanoma. Two approaches were explored to estimate stage shifts following a delay (a) based on the relation between time to treatment initiation and overall survival (breast, colorectal, and lung cancer), and (b) based on the tumor growth rate (melanoma).

    Duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) constitute a small rare subset. This study aims to analyze the prognostic differences between duodenal and jejunoileal GISTs and evaluate the clinical treatment and prognostic characteristics of patients with duodenal GISTs.

    Data of patients with primary duodenal or jejunoileal GISTs were collected. Patients were matched through propensity score matching (PSM). Perioperative and long-term outcomes of patients with duodenal GISTs were compared based on surgical approach.

We identified 778 SI NETs and of those 716 (92%) had either a documented or derived stage. Incidence doubled from 0.68 per 100000 to 1.42 per 100000 over the 15-year period. Unsupervised domestic dogs were mostly active in proximity (10 km) to communities during the wet season. Overall, our findings suggest that interactions between dingoes and unsupervised community dogs are more likely to occur around the communities, particularly during the dry season, whereas in the wet season, there is increased opportunity for interactions in distant areas in the bush between dingoes and, presumably, hunting dogs.A 38-year-old white rhinoceros bull (Ceratotherium simum) was treated with phenylbutazone over a period of four years for chronic osteoarthritic and neuropathic pain of the thoracic limbs. The purpose of such a shift is to create regulations that are more flexible, meaning that they are more open for the use of novel technology and for the use of risk assessments as a basis for decision making. However, it is not clear that the shift from a hard to a soft regime has made it easier to use risk assessments for such a purpose in practice. In the present article, we discuss the limitations caused by strict adherence to prescriptive requirements presented in standards or regulations and present our perspective on why and how these can limit risk management in practice. The article aims to discuss the strengths and weaknesses, with regard to risk management, when regulations are strictly dependent on prescriptive or specification-based standards and guidelines. Several examples are used to illustrate some of the main challenges related to the use of specification-based technical standards and how the regulatory shift from "hard" to "soft" has not necessarily made it easier to implement technological solutions based on risk assessments.Fathers' involvement in early childhood is important for children's physical, emotional, and cognitive development, particularly in low-income families. However, little is known about the longitudinal relations between early father involvement and children's later physiological responses to chronic stress and behaviors impacted by stress in the context of poverty. These issues are particularly important among Latinx immigrant families who face significant psychosocial and poverty-related risk. In the current study, we examined the relationship between father involvement in infancy and physiological chronic stress in the middle childhood period, as measured through hair cortisol concentration (HCC), and several behavioral measures (attention problems, working memory) in a Latinx immigrant sample with low income. Father involvement in infancy predicted children's later HCC, and working memory in second to third grade. Father involvement also moderated the effect of HCC on working memory, such that increased HCC predicted better working memory when fathers were not involved.

  • The present study was performed to determine the clinical relevance of KLF7 in tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) and to characterize its potential function and mechanism of action.

    KLF7 expression was measured by RT-qPCR in 21 tongue cancer samples. The clinical relevance of KLF7 was analyzed in another cohort of 127 TSCC samples from a public database. Then, we performed RNA sequencing analysis in KLF7-overexpressing TSCC (SCC9 and CAL27) cells to define significantly altered pathways. The possible changes in migration and adhesion were then analyzed in KLF7-overexpressing and knockdown TSCC cells.

    Our results showed that KLF7 mRNA expression was upregulated in TSCC and was significantly associated with the T and N stages. Patients with high-KLF7 expression had worse overall survival. RNA sequencing and KEGG enriched pathway analysis showed that altered genes were enriched in extracellular matrix-receptor interactions and focal adhesions in both cell lines. KLF7-overexpressing TSCC cell lines showed enhanced migration capacity and cell adhesion ability, and knockdown of KLF7 expression decreased TSCC migration and adhesion ability.

Preventive strategies are needed to lower CMD prevalence and burden. Giving prevention a real chance to prove its promise will require (a) full embedment in social institutions; (b) long-term structural funding; (c) targeting major CMD determinants early in life combining population-level and individual-level strategies; and, (d) integrated evaluation of short-term and long-term effects to guide implementation. Targeting life skills and resilience of children and parenting skills of their parents has the potential for long-term benefits for multiple outcomes including well-being, social, economic, and financial domains as well as mental health outcomes. However, the large investments may not occur without compelling proof of effectiveness, but evaluation of effectiveness cannot occur without long-term, structural investments. Overcoming this impasse requires a paradigm shift. Randomized controlled trials of initial efficacy need to be supplemented by evaluation strategies for long-term surveillance of community-based programs that guide implementation while assessing long-term effectiveness.

In addition, it is anticipated that patients with pCR are most likely going to have no or minimal disease in ALN as well. To verify the feasibility of these trials, we performed a pathologic analysis of all our patients who have undergone NAT from 2009 to present. Using pathology data base, we identified 362 patients treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery. Clinical and pathologic information including gross and microscopic descriptions as well as biomarker status was collected. pCR was 50% for patients with negative ALN pretreatment but only 28% for patients with positive ALN at diagnosis. Despite achieving pCR in the breast, up to 10% of patients with positive ALN and 1% with negative ALN had persistent disease. Eight percent of patients that were presumed to have no ALN disease either clinically and or by imaging were found to have metastatic carcinoma in ALN. The metastases were predominantly (80%) less then 5 mm, and not palpable on physical examination and or due to biopsy sampling error. pCR in breast and ALN directly correlated with tumor size, ALN disease, and Her2 positive and triple negative receptor phenotype. In breast cancer patients who are node positive at time of diagnosis with pCR in the breast after neoadjuvant chemotherapy, residual lymph node disease was very uncommon. The P. anserina OSIP1Δ mutant showed an increased sensitivity to the antifungal caspofungin compared to the wild type. This correlated with the production of a weakened extracellular exopolysaccharide/protein matrix (ECM). Since the recombinant OSIP1 from P. chrysosporium self-assembled as fibers and was capable of gelation, it is likely that OSIP1 is linked to ECM formation that acts as a physical barrier preventing drug toxicity. Moreover, compared to the wild type, the OSIP1Δ mutant was more sensitive to oak extractives including chaotropic phenols and benzenes. Eight percent of patients that were presumed to have no ALN disease either clinically and or by imaging were found to have metastatic carcinoma in ALN. The metastases were predominantly (80%) less then 5 mm, and not palpable on physical examination and or due to biopsy sampling error. pCR in breast and ALN directly correlated with tumor size, ALN disease, and Her2 positive and triple negative receptor phenotype. By using Podospora anserina and Phanerochaete chrysosporium as models, we combined both in vivo functional approaches and biophysical characterization of OSIP1 recombinant protein. The P. anserina OSIP1Δ mutant showed an increased sensitivity to the antifungal caspofungin compared to the wild type. This correlated with the production of a weakened extracellular exopolysaccharide/protein matrix (ECM). Since the recombinant OSIP1 from P. chrysosporium self-assembled as fibers and was capable of gelation, it is likely that OSIP1 is linked to ECM formation that acts as a physical barrier preventing drug toxicity. Moreover, compared to the wild type, the OSIP1Δ mutant was more sensitive to oak extractives including chaotropic phenols and benzenes. It exhibited a strongly modified secretome pattern and an increased production of proteins associated to the cell-wall integrity signalling pathway, when grown on oak sawdust.

    In this prospective study, a free-running five-dimensional (5D) flow sequence was implemented with 3D radial sampling, self-gating, and a compressed-sensing reconstruction. The 5D flow was evaluated in a pulsatile phantom and adult participants with aortic and/or valvular disease who were enrolled between May and August 2019. Conventional twofold-accelerated four-dimensional (4D) flow of the thoracic aorta with navigator gating was performed as a reference comparison. Continuous parameters were evaluated for parameter normality and were compared between conventional 4D flow and 5D flow using a signed-rank or two-tailed paired
    test. Differences between respiratory states were evaluated using a repeated-measure analysis of variance or a nonparametric Friedman test.

Here, we demonstrate that in addition to its role in cell cycle regulation, CDC25B functions as a regulator of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), a major cellular Ser/Thr phosphatase, through its direct interaction with PP2A catalytic subunit. Importantly, CDC25B alters the regulation of AMP-activated protein kinase signaling (AMPK) by PP2A, increasing AMPK activity by inhibiting PP2A to dephosphorylate AMPK. CDC25B depletion leads to metformin resistance by inhibiting metformin-induced AMPK activation. Furthermore, dual inhibition of CDC25B and PP2A further inhibits growth of 3D organoids isolated from patient derived xenograft model of breast cancer compared to CDC25B inhibition alone.     To evaluate the combination of tumor volume and sound speed as a potential imaging marker for assessing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) response.

    This study was carried out under an IRB-approved protocol (written consent required). Fourteen patients undergoing NAC for invasive breast cancer were examined with ultrasound tomography (UST) throughout their treatment. The volume (V) and the volume-averaged sound speed (VASS) of the tumors and their changes were measured for each patient. Time-dependent response curves of V and VASS were constructed individually for each patient and then as averages for the complete versus partial response groups in order to characterize differences between the two groups. Differences in group means were assessed for statistical significance using
    -tests. Differences in shapes of group curves were evaluated with Kolmogorov-Smirnoff tests.

    On average, tumor volume and sound speed in the partial response group showed a gradual decline in the first 60 days of treatment, while the complete response group showed a **** steeper decline (
    < 0.05). The shapes of the response curves of the two groups, corresponding to the entire treatment period, were also found to be significantly different (
    < 0.05). Furthermore, large simultaneous drops in volume and sound speed in the first 3 weeks of treatment were characteristic only of the complete responders (
    < 0.05).

OCT enables real-time acquisition of high-resolution cross-sectional images of coating layers and computation of coating thickness. In addition, coating quality attributes can be computed based on in-line data. This study assesses the in-line applicability of OCT to various coating functionalities and formulations. Several types of commercial film-coated tablets containing the most common ingredients were investigated. To that end, the tablets were placed into a miniaturized perforated drum. An in-line OCT system was used to monitor the tablet bed. This set-up resembles the final stage of an industrial pan coating process. All investigated coatings were measured, and the coating thickness, homogeneity and roughness were computed. The rotation rate was varied in a range comparable to large-scale coating operations, and no influence on the outcome was observed. The results indicate that OCT can be used to determine end-point and establish in-process control for a wide range of coating formulations.

With properly performed NMR experiments good to excellent differentiation of wines from different vintages, regions, and varieties was achieved recently.Only very recently, rescaling time has been recognized as a way to achieve adiabatic dynamics in fast processes. The advantage of time-rescaling over other shortcuts to adiabaticity is that it does not depend on the eigenspectrum and eigenstates of the Hamiltonian. However, time-rescaling requires that the original dynamics are adiabatic, and in the rescaled time frame, the Hamiltonian exhibits non-trivial time-dependence. In this work, we show how time-rescaling can be applied to Dirac dynamics, and we show that all time-dependence can be absorbed into the effective potentials through a judiciously chosen unitary transformation. This is demonstrated for two experimentally relevant scenarios, namely for ion traps and adiabatic creation of Weyl points.Little is known about the association of micronutrients deficiencies during pregnancy and neonatal outcome among women after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) or sleeve gastrectomy (SG). We present a prospective study of 87 consecutive women with a history of RYGB (n = 37) or SG (n = 50) who underwent complete and regular clinical and biological nutritional assessments during pregnancy. Data on maternal characteristics, biological nutritional parameters, antenatal management, and perinatal outcome were collected. The objective was to evaluate serum levels of micronutrients at the second trimester, and to assess the association between micronutrients deficiencies and neonatal outcome. After RYGB, maternal age (34.3 ± 4.9 vs. 31.1 ± 4.6 years; p = 0.003) and pregnancy timing after surgery (64.5 ± 47.0 vs. 38.1 ± 28.1 months; p = 0.002) were significantly higher, and pre-pregnancy BMI was significantly lower (29.8 ± 5.6 vs. 32.9 ± 7.1 kg/m2; p = 0.03). Maternal and neonatal outcomes were similar. Additional supplementations after blood tests were similar in groups. Zinc, selenium, vitamins A1, B1, B6, C, and E levels were not different depending on the type of surgery. Zinc deficiency (7/87) was significantly more frequent after RYGP (18.9% vs. 0%; p = 0.02) and selenium deficiency (15/87) was similar in groups (21.6% after RYGB and 14.0% after SG; p = 0.36). The mean birth weight was significantly lower in selenium deficiency cases (3137 ± 550 vs. 3535 ± 737 g; p = 0.04). Selenium deficiency was negatively correlated with birth weight (r = -0.23; p = 0.03) and with birth weight z-score (r = -0.26; p = 0.01), but not correlated after adjustment for the procedure. The preventive role of some nutrients has been confirmed unpasteurized milk reduced the risk of asthma in epidemiological studies, vitamin D supplementation was effective in preventing the transient forms of wheezing in small children and high maternal intake of fish oil reduced the risk of persistent wheeze and asthma in children. However, not all studies provided consistent results, and many food ingredients are still pending for defining their role in asthma development. Moreover, a novel approach looking not only at single food ingredients, but the whole dietary patterns and diversity has recently been proposed. In this paper, we discuss the current role of nutrients in asthma primary prevention and the reasons for inconsistencies in the study results. We look at single diet components, but also the whole dietary patterns. We describe the proposed mechanisms of action at different stages of life, identify the role of modifiers and delineate future perspectives on the application of nutrients in targeting strategies for asthma primary prevention.The recent trend in green analytical chemistry is the development of green analytical methods using environmentally friendly solvents. Therefore, three ecofriendly manipulated UV spectroscopic techniques have been validated for the concurrent quantification of newly approved remogliflozin etabonate (REM) and metformin HCl (MET) tablets using water as a solvent. The first method was established using first derivative absorption spectroscopic method by determining the peak amplitude at 233.0 nm for REM and 252.2 nm for MET, a zero crossing of one the component.
