These findings revealed a comprehensive signature of drug metabolism differences for the Whites, Blacks and Asians, and it may provide some evidence for making individualized treatment strategies.We aimed to evaluate the feasibility of multidomain intervention (MI) tailored to the Korean context. In an outcome assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial, participants without dementia and with one or more modifiable dementia risk factors, aged 60-79 years, were randomly assigned to the facility-based MI (FMI; n=51), the home-based MI (HMI; n=51), or the control group receiving general health advice (n=50). The 24-week intervention comprised vascular risk management, cognitive training, social activity, physical exercise, nutrition guidance, and motivational enhancement. The FMI participants performed all intervention programs at a facility three times a week. The HMI participants performed some programs at a facility once every 1-2 weeks and performed others at home. The primary outcome was feasibility measured through retention, adherence, and at least no differences from the control group in the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS). In the FMI and HMI groups, the retention rates were 88.2% and 96.1%, and adherence to the intervention was 94.5% and 96.8%, respectively. The RBANS total scale index score improved significantly in the FMI (5.46 ± 7.50, P = 0.004) and HMI (5.50 ± 8.14, P = 0.004) groups compared to the control group (-0.74 ± 11.51). In the present study, we demonstrated that lncRNA HCP5 was overexpressed in HCC tissues and cell lines, and these findings were obvious even in metastatic and recurrent cases. Knockdown of HCP5 significantly alleviated cell growth, metastasis, and invasion both in vitro and in vivo through promoting apoptosis and by inactivating the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) progress. Moreover, miR-29b-3p has been identified as a negatively regulatory target gene of HCP5, and served as a tumor suppressor of HCC to prevent cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Subsequently, DNMT3A was identified as a downstream regulatory factor of miR-29b-3p, and acted as a participated element of HCC progression by activating AKT phosphorylation. Taken together, our study elucidated for the first time that HCP5 plays a crucial role in HCC via the HCP5/miR-29b-3p/DNMT3A/AKT axis and our findings demonstrated a novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategy with potentiality to treat HCC.Drug shops are the first point of care for most community members in low-resource countries. The intervention involved a drug shop sensitization using information, education, and communication material, as well as training on the use of a risk assessment checklist to identify probable COVID-19 cases and to take appropriate action. Data were collected to determine the effect of this intervention using a pre-tested questionnaire and practice observation checklist, first at baseline and then 3 months post-intervention. Data analysis involved exploratory analysis and the t-test to determine pre- and post-intervention mean score differences at the 5% α level. The efficacy of platinum-based chemotherapies in prostate cancer has not been proven in prospective clinical studies and therefore these treatments are rarely used in prostate adenocarcinomas. Here we present a case of BRCA2 mutant prostate cancer, which was diagnosed at a metastatic stage and showed no or only little response to androgen deprivation and docetaxel therapies. Therefore, we started carboplatin chemotherapy which resulted in an exceptional response regarding biochemical, radiographic parameters accompanied by significant improvement of patients' physical condition. MEDLINE via PubMed, Embase, SPORTDiscus, and the Cochrane library were searched and screened from inception to 20 October 2020 for randomized controlled trials. The inclusion criteria were obese children who met the criteria for MetS and aged 5-19 years old in an aerobic exercise group. The meta-analysis included eight trials with a total of 197 participants. Aerobic exercise significantly improved the waist circumference (mean difference [MD]=-3.97; 95% confidence interval [CI]=-6.12 to -1.83; p<0.01), body mass index (standardized MD [SMD]=-0.5; 95% CI=-0.70 to -0.29; p<0.01), triglyceride (SMD=-24.6; 95% CI=-33.85 to -15.35; p<0.01), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (SMD=2.36; 95% CI=0.44 to 4.27; p<0.01), and systolic blood pressure (SMD=-6.90; 95% CI=-10.46 to -3.35; p<0.01).
Based on the results of this meta-analysis, during the intervention period of the included studies, aerobic exercise alone mainly affected the lipoprotein, blood pressure, and body dimensions but cannot completely cure the MetS of obese children.

To investigate whether a possible association of mobile phone use with hearing impairment was conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This is a systematic review and meta-analysis. A comprehensive literature search was carried out based on the Meta-analysis of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (MOOSE) methodology using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, OVID, and Cochrane. The Robins-I tool was used for quality assessment and risk of bias. Two investigators independently reviewed all articles. Pooled effect size was calculated and meta-analysis was performed to compute an overall effect size.
Overall, five relevant studies (two cross-sectional and three cohort studies) with 92,978 participants were included in the analysis. The studies were stratified by design, there was no significant association between mobile phone use and hearing impairment in cross-sectional studies (OR=0.94, 95% CI=0.57-1.31) and cohort studies (OR=1.09, 95% CI=0.93-1.25). In addition, the effect estimates did not differ significantly between cross-sectional and cohort studies (Q=0.50, p=0.48). Overall, the pooled odds ratio (OR) of hearing impairment was 1.07 (95% CI 0.94-1.20), which indicates no significant association between mobile phone use and hearing impairment.

Eating meals with the family improves the food choices of adolescents. Studies conducted on Kuwaiti adolescents have reported suboptimal dietary intake; however, it is unclear what meal-related behaviors and family dynamics influence dietary choices in young Kuwaiti adolescents.This study explored the food intake and meal-related behaviors of young adolescents in relation to their mother's educational level, parental employment, and family size and to identify meal-related behaviors associated with poor dietary choices.
A cross-sectional survey was conducted using a modified and validated version of the International Health Behavior in School Children questionnaire recruiting 774 adolescents aged 14-16 years from all six governorates of Kuwait.
A higher level of the mother's education was associated with higher odds of eating fruits and breakfast. A stay-at-home mother was associated with higher odds of consuming milk and home-made desserts. Larger family size was associated with higher odds of eating fruits, and a higher frequency of family meals was associated with higher odds of consuming vegetables and whole grain bread. All unhealthy snacks, including sweets, potato chips, french fries, home-made desserts, and sugar-sweetened beverages, were associated with higher odds of watching TV during mealtime.
A higher level of mother's education level, large family size, and family meals encouraged consuming fruits, vegetables, whole grain bread, milk, and breakfast, but consuming empty calorie snacks is very common. Family involvement in developing healthy meal-related behaviors is imperative for shaping healthy eating habits of adolescents.

This is the first reported case of such tumors with an adipocytic component.While most ovarian follicle cysts are less then 8 cm in greatest dimension, **** larger follicle cysts (up to 18.5 cm) have been reported. To our knowledge, the FOXL2 mutation status of such cases has not been documented in the literature. Here, we report the features of a 14 cm ovarian cyst with no FOXL2 mutation detected by targeted next-generation sequencing. While adult granulosa cell tumor was the chief entity in our differential diagnosis, the absence of convincing nuclear grooves, lack of architectural variability, presence of a theca layer, and absence of FOXL2 mutation were consistent with a diagnosis of ovarian follicle cyst.
Although multiple studies have investigated risk factors for symptomatic adjacent segment disease (ASD) after lumbar fusion, their findings were diverse and inconsistent. This review aimed to summarize risk factors for ASD in order to guide the management of ASD and future research.
Six electronic databases were systematically searched from inception to December 2019. Two reviewers independently screened titles, abstracts, and full-text articles to identify studies investigating risk factors for ASD after lumbar fusion in humans. The methodological quality of the included studies and the strength of evidence regarding risk factors were evaluated.
Sixteen studies involving 3,553 patients were included. Meta-analyses revealed that high body mass index, facet joint violation, anterior shift of the preoperative and postoperative lumbosacral sagittal plumb line, decreased preoperative and postoperative lumbar lordosis, preoperative adjacent disc degeneration, decreased preoperative adjacent disc height, increased postoperative lumbopelvic mismatch, postoperative pelvic incidence, and postoperative pelvic tilt were significantly related to ASD.
This meta-analysis addressed the limitations of prior reviews and summarized evidence with regard to risk factors for ASD following lumbar fusion. Future prospective studies should investigate whether modification of these risk factors can reduce the ASD development.

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) has become increasingly implemented to reduce costs, to increase efficiency, and to optimize patient outcomes after a surgical procedure. This study aimed to systematically review the effect of ERAS after primary elective total hip arthroplasty (THA) or total knee arthroplasty (TKA) on hospital length of stay, total procedure-related morbidity, and readmission.
A systematic review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and with guidance from the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions. MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane databases were searched from inception (1946 for MEDLINE and 1974 for Embase; Cochrane is a composite of multiple databases and thus does not report a standard inception date) until January 15, 2020. Prospective nonrandomized cohort studies and randomized controlled trials comparing adult patients undergoing elective primary THA or TKA with ERAS or traditional ates.
ERAS likely reduced the length of stay after primary elective THA and TKA, with a more pronounced effect in selected healthier patient populations. We found minimal to no impact on perioperative morbidity or readmission. The quality of existing evidence was limited because of study heterogeneity and a significant risk of bias. Further high-quality research is needed to definitively assess the impact of ERAS on total joint arthroplasty.

Successful surgical management of pelvic ring and acetabular fractures requires technical expertise to achieve an accurate reduction and stable fixation. The use of 3-dimensional (3D) intraoperative imaging (3DIOI) as an assessment tool has led to improved reduction and placement of implants. The purpose of this study was to assess the utility of using 3DIOI in the management of acetabular and pelvic fractures on the basis of outcomes reported in the literature.
A literature search was performed using PubMed, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR), and Google Scholar using key terms. A network meta-analysis conducted using the frequentist approach allowed for statistical analysis of reported outcomes regarding screw position (in mm), fracture reduction (in mm), and complications.

An elderly, polytrauma patient receiving vitamin K antagonist (VKA) for atrial fibrillation required immediate surgery for open distal tibial fracture. As the initial reversal with vitamin K and fresh frozen plasma by the trauma team was ineffective, the "Bleeding Team" was convened and administrated the appropriate four-factor prothrombin complex regimen, reversing the VKA in a timely manner. Home health care (HHC) is a leading form of home and community-based services for persons with dementia (PWD). Nurses are the primary providers of HHC; however, little is known of nursing care delivery and quality.
The objective of this study was to examine the association between continuity of nursing care in HHC and rehospitalization among PWD.
This is a retrospective cohort study using multiple years (2010-2015) of HHC assessment, administrative, and human resources data from a large urban not-for-profit home health agency.
This study included 23,886 PWD receiving HHC following a hospitalization.
Continuity of nursing care was calculated using the **** and Boxerman method, which considered the number of total visits, nurses, and visits from each nurse during an HHC episode. The outcome was all-cause rehospitalization during HHC. Risk-adjusted logistic regression was used for analysis.
Approximately 24% of PWD were rehospitalized. The mean continuity of nursing care score was 0.56 (SD=0.33). Eight percent of PWD received each nursing visit from a different nurse (no continuity), and 26% received all visits from one nurse during an HHC episode (full continuity).
This is the first reported case of such tumors with an adipocytic component.While most ovarian follicle cysts are less then 8 cm in greatest dimension, much larger follicle cysts (up to 18.5 cm) have been reported. To our knowledge, the FOXL2 mutation status of such cases has not been documented in the literature. Here, we report the features of a 14 cm ovarian cyst with no FOXL2 mutation detected by targeted next-generation sequencing. While adult granulosa cell tumor was the chief entity in our differential diagnosis, the absence of convincing nuclear grooves, lack of architectural variability, presence of a theca layer, and absence of FOXL2 mutation were consistent with a diagnosis of ovarian follicle cyst. Although multiple studies have investigated risk factors for symptomatic adjacent segment disease (ASD) after lumbar fusion, their findings were diverse and inconsistent. This review aimed to summarize risk factors for ASD in order to guide the management of ASD and future research. Six electronic databases were systematically searched from inception to December 2019. Two reviewers independently screened titles, abstracts, and full-text articles to identify studies investigating risk factors for ASD after lumbar fusion in humans. The methodological quality of the included studies and the strength of evidence regarding risk factors were evaluated. Sixteen studies involving 3,553 patients were included. Meta-analyses revealed that high body mass index, facet joint violation, anterior shift of the preoperative and postoperative lumbosacral sagittal plumb line, decreased preoperative and postoperative lumbar lordosis, preoperative adjacent disc degeneration, decreased preoperative adjacent disc height, increased postoperative lumbopelvic mismatch, postoperative pelvic incidence, and postoperative pelvic tilt were significantly related to ASD. This meta-analysis addressed the limitations of prior reviews and summarized evidence with regard to risk factors for ASD following lumbar fusion. Nitric oxide (NO)-mediated production of cyclic guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cGMP) is a crucial signaling pathway that controls a wide array of neuronal functions, including exocytotic neurotransmitter release. A novel nitrated derivative of cGMP, 8-nitro-cGMP, not only activates cGMP-dependent protein kinase (PKG), but also has membrane permeability and redox activity to produce superoxide and S-guanylated protein. To date, no studies have addressed the effects of 8-nitro-cGMP on exocytotic kinetics. Here, we aimed to assess the 8-nitro-cGMP-mediated modulation of the depolarization-evoked catecholamine release from bovine chromaffin cells. 8-Nitro-cGMP was produced in bovine chromaffin cells dependent on NO donor. Amperometric analysis revealed that 8-nitro-cGMP modulated the kinetic parameters of secretory spikes from chromaffin cells, particularly decreased the speed of individual spikes, resulting in a reduced amperometric spike height, slope β, and absolute value of slope γ. The modulatory effects were independent of the PKG signal and superoxide production. This is the first study to demonstrate that 8-nitro-cGMP modulates exocytosis and provide insights into a novel regulatory mechanism of exocytosis. This ex vivo study compared root canal disinfection and shaping in teeth with contracted or conventional endodontic cavities. METHODS Mandibular incisors with oval-shaped canals were selected and anatomically matched based on micro-computed tomographic (micro-CT) analysis and distributed into 2 groups. Conservative and conventional access cavities were prepared, and the canals were contaminated with a pure culture of Enterococcus faecalis for 30 days. Root canal preparation in both groups was performed using the XP-endo Shaper instrument (FKG Dentaire, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland) and 2.5% sodium hypochlorite irrigation. Intracanal bacteriologic samples were taken before and after preparation, and DNA was extracted and subjected to quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Micro-CT scans taken before and after preparation were used for shaping evaluation. Bacteriologic data were analyzed by the Poisson regression model and the chi-square test with Yates correction. Micro-CT data were analyzed by the Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney, and Student t tests with the significance level set at 5%. RESULTS All initial samples were positive for E. faecalis. After preparation, the number of bacteria-positive samples was significantly higher in the contracted cavity group (25/29, 86%) than in the conventional cavity group (14/28, 50%) (P less then .01). Intergroup quantitative comparison showed that the reduction in bacterial counts was also significantly higher in the group of conventional cavities (P less then .01). Micro-CT data revealed no significant difference in the amount of unprepared areas between groups. CONCLUSIONS Our findings showed that although shaping using an adjustable instrument was similar between groups, disinfection was significantly compromised after root canal preparation of teeth with contracted endodontic cavities. The goal of this study is to understand the perceptions about optometry among optometry students, prior to and during their studies. METHODS A snap-shot narrative qualitative study using a semi-structured open-ended questionnaire was designed to understand the perception of optometry. Optometry students and educators from three suburban colleges were invited to participate. Forty-one participants took part in 24 in-depth interviews and 5 focus groups; of those 32 were undergraduate optometry students and 9 were optometry educators. Interviews and focus groups were audio-recorded, transcribed, coded, and analyzed. RESULTS Three major themes emerged retrospective perception of optometry, current perception and strategies to improve awareness level. All the participants mentioned that there was a considerable lack of awareness about optometry in society.

Annually recurring optometric screening helps to identify children with increased axial growth and also to create awareness for wearing properly corrected glasses and for spending enough time outdoors, both of which are crucial for healthy eyes. The obtained biometric data help to expand the epidemiological information on myopia in schoolchildren, which is fundamental for the selection of the correct treatment.
Contact-free biometry of the eye was used to assess central corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness and axial length. Central choroidal thickness was manually assessed using optical coherence tomography (OCT). In addition, the mesopic and photopic pupil sizes were measured.
Biometric data were obtained from 257 (mean age 11.2 ± 1.1years, 31.9% female, n = 82, 68.1% male, n = 175) out of atotal of 274 examined children. Mean corneal radius (mean ± SD, female/male) was 7.74 ± 0.23 mm/7.89 ± 0.22 mm, central corneal thickness was 556.80 ± 31.31 µm/565.68 ± 33.12 µm, anterior chamber depth was 3.62 ± 0.28 mm/3.71 ± 0.25 mm, lens thickness was 3.48 ± 0.18 mm/3.46 ± 0.17 mm and axial length was 23.03 ± 0.88 mm/23.51 ± 0.88 mm. Choroidal thickness was assessed in 240 children and was 335.12 ± 60.5 µm. Mesopic and photopic pupil sizes were 6.38 ± 0.70 mm and 3.11 ± 0.63 mm, respectively.
The axial lengths found are consistent with the normal values for European children. Adifference between male and female eyes could be observed. The repetition of these examinations in the future will enable the generation of growth charts.

Non-publication and premature discontinuation for clinical trials pose an ethical dilemma for trial participants, patients, clinicians, and researchers, as well as the general public as these studies receive significant public funding that may be further contributing to research waste. Here, we investigate the rate of trial discontinuation and non-publication among CRC trials using ClinicalTrials.gov.
We performed an advanced search on ClinicalTrials.gov pertaining to the treatment of CRC using the keyword colorectal cancer. For each clinical trial, links to the publication provided by ClinicalTrials.gov were searched and verified to be correct. If a publication was unable to be found using the methods above, we attempted to contact the lead investigator via email for the reason for non-publication.
Of the 123 (123/428, 28.7%) discontinued trials, a reason for discontinuation was provided for 57 (57/123, 46.3%) trials. Of the 305 (305/428, 71.3%) completed trials, 244 (244/305, 80.0%) had a verifiable publication, while 61 (61/305, 20.0%) did not publish their findings or were unable to be located.
We found that more than one-quarter of trials were prematurely ended, and almost one-third of completed trials did not publish their findings. Subjecting trial participants to potentially harmful treatments and interventions that fail to complete or publish study findings have the potential to undermine the patient-provider relationship, as well as public confidence in government-sponsored clinical trials.

To determine whether single-phase dual-energy CT (DECT) differentiates vascular and nonvascular renal lesions in the portal venous phase (PVP). Optimal iodine threshold was determined and compared to Hounsfield unit (HU) measurements.
We retrospectively included 250 patients (266 renal lesions) who underwent a clinically indicated PVP abdominopelvic CT on a rapid-kilovoltage-switching single-source DECT (rsDECT) or a dual-source DECT (dsDECT) scanner. Iodine concentration and HU measurements were calculated by four experienced readers. Diagnostic accuracy was determined using biopsy results and follow-up imaging as reference standard. Area under the curve (AUC) was calculated for each DECT scanner to differentiate vascular from nonvascular lesions and vascular lesions from hemorrhagic/proteinaceous cysts. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses evaluated the association between variables and the presence of vascular lesions.

Here, we summarize our current understanding on maturation and subsequent processing of the Na,K-ATPase in the ER under physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Annually recurring optometric screening helps to identify children with increased axial growth and also to create awareness for wearing properly corrected glasses and for spending enough time outdoors, both of which are crucial for healthy eyes. The obtained biometric data help to expand the epidemiological information on myopia in schoolchildren, which is fundamental for the selection of the correct treatment. Contact-free biometry of the eye was used to assess central corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness and axial length. Central choroidal thickness was manually assessed using optical coherence tomography (OCT). In addition, the mesopic and photopic pupil sizes were measured. Biometric data were obtained from 257 (mean age 11.2 ± 1.1years, 31.9% female, n = 82, 68.1% male, n = 175) out of atotal of 274 examined children. We performed an advanced search on ClinicalTrials.gov pertaining to the treatment of CRC using the keyword colorectal cancer. For each clinical trial, links to the publication provided by ClinicalTrials.gov were searched and verified to be correct. If a publication was unable to be found using the methods above, we attempted to contact the lead investigator via email for the reason for non-publication. Of the 123 (123/428, 28.7%) discontinued trials, a reason for discontinuation was provided for 57 (57/123, 46.3%) trials. Of the 305 (305/428, 71.3%) completed trials, 244 (244/305, 80.0%) had a verifiable publication, while 61 (61/305, 20.0%) did not publish their findings or were unable to be located. Emergency departments (ED) interface with large numbers of patients that are often missed by conventional HIV testing approaches. ED-based HIV self-testing (HIVST) is an innovative engagement approach which has potential for testing gains among populations that have failed to be reached. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated acceptability and uptake of HIVST, as compared to standard provider-delivered testing approaches, among patients seeking care in ED settings.
Six electronic databases were systematically searched (Dates January 1990-May 2021). Reports with data on HIVST acceptability and/or testing uptake in ED settings were included. Two reviewers identified eligible records (κ=0.84); quality was assessed using formalized criteria. Acceptability and testing uptake metrics were summarized, and pooled estimates were calculated using random-effects models with assessments of heterogeneity.

Posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) can develop after an injury to the knee. Previous studies have indicated that an intra-articular (IA) injection of the potent glucocorticoid dexamethasone (DEX) may significantly prevent induction of PTOA. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of a single IA injection of hyaluronic acid (HA), alone and in combination with DEX following a localized intra-articular injury as a PTOA-preventing treatment option. An established rabbit model of surgical injury consisting of dual intra-articular (IA) drill holes in a non-cartilaginous area of the femoral notch near the origin of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) to allow for bleeding into the joint space was used. A total of 37 271 cases with the American Joint Committee on Cancer clinical stage I, II, and III esophageal carcinoma that were reported to the National Cancer Database were analyzed between 2004 and 2016. A multivariable-adjusted logistic regression model was used to evaluate differences in the odds ratio of esophagectomy not being recommended based on race. Kaplan-Meier curves and log-rank tests were used to evaluate differences in overall survival. Propensity score methodology with inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) was used to balance baseline differences in patient demographics.
After IPTW adjustment, we identified 30 552 White patients and 3529 Black patients with clinical stage I-III esophageal carcinoma. Black patients had three times greater odds of not being recommended for esophagectomy (odds ratio 3.03, 95% confidence interval 2.67-3.43, p < 0.0001) compared to White patients. Black patients demonstrated significantly worse 3- and 5-year overall survival rates compared to White patients (log-rank p < 0.0001).

Kale and arugula are leafy green vegetables whose sensory properties have not been extensively explored. The objective was to assess the sensory properties and consumer acceptability of commercially available kale and arugula while also discovering drivers of consumer liking and barriers to consumer acceptance. Descriptive analysis and consumer testing were completed. The trained panellists (n=11) were trained for 15 h to evaluate 11 sensory properties relating to the aroma, taste and texture of the kale and arugula. The consumer testing (n=108) evaluated the leafy greens for overall liking and their liking of taste, aroma, texture and appearance.
Results were analyzed using ANOVA, Tukey's HSD and external preference mapping. Approximately half of the attributes for the kale samples were found to be significantly different. Similarly, significant differences in sensory properties were found in most of the arugula samples. Consumers liked the kale and arugula varieties that were sweet and nutty. Also, they preferred arugula that was described as spicy.

There is no report concerning calcium sodium phosphosilicate (CSPS) and arginine dentifrices in reducing dentine hypersensitivity (DH) in patients undergoing non-surgical periodontal therapy. The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of a dentifrice containing bioactive glass, 5% CSPS, and 8% arginine dentifrice in relieving DH in patients undergoing non-surgical therapy.
Using a double-blind randomized controlled trial, 45 volunteers with DH following non-surgical therapy were immediately applied with one of three dentifrices containing 5% CSPS, 8% arginine, or control on DH teeth. The participants then continued to brush twice daily for 8weeks. DH was assessed using the Schiff cold air sensitivity scale and tactile tests at baseline, immediately after application, and up to 8weeks.
The Schiff analysis revealed that the CSPS dentifrice significantly reduced DH immediately and declined through week 8. The arginine group demonstrated reduced DH through week 2. In contrast, DH reduction in the control began later at week 1.

The trained panellists (n=11) were trained for 15 h to evaluate 11 sensory properties relating to the aroma, taste and texture of the kale and arugula. The consumer testing (n=108) evaluated the leafy greens for overall liking and their liking of taste, aroma, texture and appearance. Results were analyzed using ANOVA, Tukey's HSD and external preference mapping. Approximately half of the attributes for the kale samples were found to be significantly different. Similarly, significant differences in sensory properties were found in most of the arugula samples. Consumers liked the kale and arugula varieties that were sweet and nutty. Also, they preferred arugula that was described as spicy. The majority of consumers preferred sweet and nutty leafy greens. Organic growing methods did not affect consumer liking; however, organic labels do positively affect hedonic ratings of a consumer's overall liking of the product. The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of a dentifrice containing bioactive glass, 5% CSPS, and 8% arginine dentifrice in relieving DH in patients undergoing non-surgical therapy. Using a double-blind randomized controlled trial, 45 volunteers with DH following non-surgical therapy were immediately applied with one of three dentifrices containing 5% CSPS, 8% arginine, or control on DH teeth. The participants then continued to brush twice daily for 8weeks. DH was assessed using the Schiff cold air sensitivity scale and tactile tests at baseline, immediately after application, and up to 8weeks. The Schiff analysis revealed that the CSPS dentifrice significantly reduced DH immediately and declined through week 8. The arginine group demonstrated reduced DH through week 2. Therefore, there is a growing interest in production, characterization and application of EPS from different microorganisms. The present study designed to investigate the production and characterization of EPS from Rhodotorula mucilaginosa YMM19 isolated from Morus nigra L. fruits as well as to examine their potential emulsifying properties. Effect of NaCl concentration, incubation period and pH on the production of EPS was studied. The maximum EPS production by yeast was achieved at 10% NaCl (9741.84 mg/l). The best incubation time for production of EPS was 5 days. Production of EPS decreased under neutral condition and increased at acidic and alkaline condition. The structural feature of EPS was examined by FT-IR and NMR spectral analysis and confirmed the presence of glucose, glucopyranose and galactose. The isolated EPS showed higher emulsification capacity with emulsification activity of 71% and emulsifying index of 60%. The EPS gave strong emulsification for farnesol and was more effective than sodium dodecyl sulphate, a reference emulsifier, in enhancing the herbicidal activity of farnesol against Melilotus indicus under greenhouse condition. Further studies revealed that maduramicin induced accumulation of the cells at G0/G1 phase of the cell cycle and concurrently, there was down regulation of expression of Cyclin D1. In addition, exposure to maduramicin pruned phosphorylation of AKT at both T308 and S473 sites. Finally, we found that pre-treatment of H9c2 myocardial cells with AKT activator SC79, attenuated the inhibitory effects of maduramicin on Cyclin D1 expression and cell proliferation. The analysed genotypes were divided into three hardness classes hard, medium and soft and they showed four allelic combinations in Pin-D1 genes. The SKCS results showed that hard wheat was the major type in European cultivars, whereas molecular analysis showed differential allelic combinations of puroindoline genes among these classes.

While insufficient sleep duration has emerged as a strong, independent risk factor for obesity, the mechanisms remain unclear. One possibility is greater "eating in the absence of hunger" (EAH) or energy intake beyond the point of satiety, when tired.
The aim was to determine whether mild sleep loss increases EAH in children.
A crossover study was undertaken in 105 healthy children (8-12 y) with normal sleep (∼8-11 h/night). After randomization, children went to bed 1 h earlier (sleep extension) or 1 h later (sleep restriction) than their usual bedtime, over 2 intervention weeks separated by a 1-wk washout. At the end of each intervention week, children underwent an EAH feeding experiment involving a preloading meal until satiation, followed by an ad libitum buffet (of highly palatable snacks) to measure EAH, with each food item weighed before and after consumption.
Ninety-three children completed the EAH experiment. There was no evidence of a difference in energy intake from EAH between sleep restricossover design in children, due to a learning effect. However, the team and RADx Tech leadership soon realized that the larger infrastructure to deploy testing in non-clinical environments was nonexistent and that wrap-around services were required to build the necessary bridge between manufacturing and end users. Furthermore, the unique communities that required testing (e.g., manufacturing plants, transportation hubs, K-12 schools, etc.) had different infrastructure requirements and outsized needs for education and support around testing plan implementation. The Deployment Core, therefore, quickly scaled a team to help to complete the picture and provide guidance to end users and ultimately help shape public policy around a useful data model.

Importance Increasing numbers of confirmed cases and mortality rates of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are occurring in several countries and continents. Information regarding the impact of cardiovascular complication on fatal outcome is scarce. Objective To evaluate the association of underlying cardiovascular disease (CVD) and myocardial injury with fatal outcomes in patients with COVID-19. Design, Setting, and Participants This retrospective single-center case series analyzed patients with COVID-19 at the Seventh Hospital of Wuhan City, China, from January 23, 2020, to February 23, 2020. Analysis began February 25, 2020. Main Outcomes and Measures Demographic data, laboratory findings, comorbidities, and treatments were collected and analyzed in patients with and without elevation of troponin T (TnT) levels. Result Among 187 patients with confirmed COVID-19, 144 patients (77%) were discharged and 43 patients (23%) died. The mean (SD) age was 58.50 (14.66) years. Overall, 66 (35.3%) had underlying CVD significantly associated with fatal outcome of COVID-19, while the prognosis of patients with underlying CVD but without myocardial injury is relatively favorable. Myocardial injury is associated with cardiac dysfunction and arrhythmias. Inflammation may be a potential mechanism for myocardial injury. METHODS Using two baseline subsamples of UK Biobank; prevalent *** cases (N = 10 287) and individuals without *** (N = 393 108), we evaluated associations between a *** PRS and incident cardiovascular and fatal outcomes. RESULTS A 1 S.D. higher PRS was associated with increased risk of incident MI in participants without *** (OR 1.33; 95% C.I. 1.29, 1.38), but the effect estimate was markedly attenuated in those with prevalent *** (OR 1.15; 95% C.I. 1.06, 1.25); heterogeneity P = 0.0012. Additionally, among prevalent *** cases, we found evidence of an inverse association between the *** PRS and risk of all-cause death (OR 0.91; 95% C.I. 0.85, 0.98) compared to those without *** (OR 1.01; 95% C.I. 0.99, 1.03); heterogeneity P = 0.0041. A similar inverse association was found for ischaemic stroke (Prevalent *** (OR 0.78; 95% C.I. 0.67, 0.90); without *** (OR 1.09; 95% C.I. 1.04, 1.15), heterogeneity P less then 0.001). Importance Increasing numbers of confirmed cases and mortality rates of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are occurring in several countries and continents. Information regarding the impact of cardiovascular complication on fatal outcome is scarce. Objective To evaluate the association of underlying cardiovascular disease (CVD) and myocardial injury with fatal outcomes in patients with COVID-19. Design, Setting, and Participants This retrospective single-center case series analyzed patients with COVID-19 at the Seventh Hospital of Wuhan City, China, from January 23, 2020, to February 23, 2020. Analysis began February 25, 2020. Main Outcomes and Measures Demographic data, laboratory findings, comorbidities, and treatments were collected and analyzed in patients with and without elevation of troponin T (TnT) levels. Result Among 187 patients with confirmed COVID-19, 144 patients (77%) were discharged and 43 patients (23%) died. The mean (SD) age was 58.50 (14.66) years. Overall, 66 (35.3%) had underlying CVD significantly associated with fatal outcome of COVID-19, while the prognosis of patients with underlying CVD but without myocardial injury is relatively favorable. Myocardial injury is associated with cardiac dysfunction and arrhythmias. Inflammation may be a potential mechanism for myocardial injury. Field trials are of key importance for novel technologies seeking commercialization and widespread adoption. This is also the case for quantum key distribution (QKD), which allows distant parties to distill a secret key with unconditional security. Typically, QKD demonstrations over urban infrastructures require complex stabilization and synchronization systems to maintain a low quantum bit error and high secret key rates over time. Here we present a field trial that exploits low-complexity self-stabilized hardware and a novel synchronization technique, to perform QKD over optical fibers deployed in the city center of Padua, Italy. Two techniques recently introduced by our research group are evaluated in a real-world environment the iPOGNAC polarization encoder was used for preparation of the quantum states, while temporal synchronization was performed with the Qubit4Sync algorithm. The results here presented demonstrate the validity and robustness of our resource-effective QKD system, which can be easily and rapidly installed in an existing telecommunication infrastructure, thus representing an important step towards mature, efficient, and low-cost QKD systems.Photoemission is one of the fundamental processes that describes the generation of charged particles from materials irradiated by photons. The continuous progress in the development of ultrashort lasers allows investigation into the dynamics of the process at the femtosecond timescale. Here we report about experimental measurements using two ultrashort ultraviolet laser pulses to temporally probe the electrons release from a copper cathode in a radio-frequency photoinjector. By changing their relative delay, we studied how the release mechanism is affected by two-photon photoemission when tens of GW/cm2 intensities are employed. We evaluated the limits it poses on the achievable beam brightness and analyzed the resulting emission yield in terms of the electronic temperature by modeling the cathode as a two-temperature system.We present a novel, to the best of our knowledge, extended-cavity diode laser based on a modified Littrow configuration. To the best of our knowledge, the lowest threshold of around 400 µW and highest operation temperature of 323 K have been achieved. An analysis of experimental results shows that the dominant lasing wavelength of MDLs varies with the thickness and diameter of the MDLs. Our demonstration shows potential application of MDLs for multi-channel operation in densely integrated Si-photonics.We propose a new, to the best of our knowledge, single photon source based on the principle of active multiplexing of heralded single photons, which, unlike previously reported architecture, requires a limited amount of physical resources. Herein, in contrast, we propose a mechanism to harness the loss in a coupled $\rm high-\! Q$ resonators system to realize on-chip electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). The increasing loss of one of the coupled resonators results in a difference in $Q$ factor, leading to EIT generation. This optical loss-induced EIT is studied analytically using the coupled-mode theory and demonstrated experimentally in chalcogenide coupled microring resonators. By taking advantage of the chalcogenide phase change materials that feature exceptional optical property contrasts, we further demonstrate the loss-induced mechanism to realize fast and nonvolatile responses between the EIT state and the critical coupling state in a monolithically integrated chip. Our results provide a new perspective to harvest the negative loss effect of coupled resonators for tunable photonic devices, which might shed new light on the design ideology for on-chip slow-light optical components.The instability of optical phase chaos synchronization between semiconductor lasers under master-slave open-loop configuration is investigated. A statistical analysis shows that both duration time and jumping values are random, proving that the phase chaos synchronization is unstable. By employing the correlation of the state of polarization (SOP) between the upstream and downstream light, one APC is capable of stabilizing SOPs of the counterpropagating waves at the same time. The signal and local oscillator (**) can be optically split by a polarization beam splitter (PBS), relaxing pressure of the digital signal processing (DSP) and simplifying the coherent receiver. The impact induced by polarization cross talk and delay mismatch is collectively investigated by theoretical analysis and simulation. Finally, the proposed scheme is experimentally verified through 120 Gbit/s 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM) transmission, achieving a satisfying laser-linewidth tolerance of 10 MHz and a polarization rotation tolerance of up to 45 rad/s.
