Moreover, immunoPET imaging with 64Cu-NOTA-ICAM-1 efficiently visualized subcutaneous and orthotopic ATCs with high clarity and contrast. Fluorescent imaging with IRDye 800CW-ICAM-1 also visualized orthotopic ATCs and the tumor uptake could be blocked by the ICAM-1 parental antibody R6-5-D6, indicating the high specificity of the developed probe. Finally, blocking with the human IgG prolonged the circulation of the 64Cu-NOTA-ICAM-1 in R2G2 **** without compromising the tumor uptake. Two experiments were run, based on the forced-choice stimulus-response compatibility (SRC) paradigm, with a progressive series of ambiguous (bistable) lateral-graspable objects. In Experiment 1, subjects responded by pressing horizontally opposite keyboard keys, while in Experiment 2, the keyboard keys were vertically separated. Experiment 1 found that subjects perceived the initial object in a bistable series for longer, and exhibited greater response stability in compatible than incompatible situations. In Experiment 2, none of these modulations were significant. Overall, our results show that affordances operationalized through a SRC paradigm modulated how subjects categorized ambiguous stimuli. The current study sought to evaluate the effects of the interaction between microplastics and triclosan based on a mechanistic approach in which the oyster Crassostrea brasiliana was used as a model. The organisms were exposed to three conditions the control, microplastic (MP), and microplastic contaminated with triclosan (MPT). The organisms were exposed for 3 or 7 days. After the exposure time, hemolymph was sampled for performing the neutral red retention time assay and, subsequently, the gills, digestive glands, and adductor muscles were dissected for measuring biomarkers responses (EROD, DBF, GST, GPx, GSH, lipid peroxidation, DNA strand breaks, and AChE). Our results demonstrate combined effects of MPs associated with triclosan on oyster physiology and biochemistry, as well as on lysosomal membrane stability. These results contribute to understanding the effects of contaminants of emerging concern and microplastics on aquatic organisms.Toxoplasmosis is a common parasitic disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii. Limitations of available treatments motivate the search for better therapies for toxoplasmosis. In this study, we synthesized a series of new imidazole derivatives bis-imidazoles (compounds 1-8), phenyl-substituted 1H-imidazoles (compounds 9-19), and thiopene-imidazoles (compounds 20-26). All these compounds were assessed for in vitro potential to restrict the growth of T. gondii. To explore the structure-activity relationships, molecular analyses and bioactivity prediction studies were performed using a standard molecular model. The in vitro results, in combination with the predictive model, revealed that the imidazole derivatives have excellent selectivity activity against T. gondii versus the host cells. Of the 26 compounds screened, five imidazole derivatives (compounds 10, 11, 18, 20, and 21) shared a specific structural moiety and exhibited significantly high selectivity (> 1176 to > 27,666) towards the parasite versus the host cells.

  • Purpose Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is an ultra-rare vascular sarcoma with unique clinical features. EHE is characterized by an unpredictable, often protracted, clinical course and highly variable clinical presentation. Due to difficulty recruiting ultra-rare cancer patients, health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of EHE patients has not yet been studied. The aim of this study was to assess EHE symptom burden and its impact on HRQoL and psychological distress.Methods The study was initiated after EHE patients' foundations approached our research group to study HRQoL. Patients were recruited from the international EHE Facebook group from May through October 2018. Data were collected using the online PROFILES registry. Latent class cluster analysis was performed to identify groups based on frequently reported symptoms. Differences in HRQoL (EORTC-QLQ-C30) and psychological distress (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale) between symptom-based clusters were examined.Results Among 115 EHE patients from 20 countries, three clusters were identified, with low-, intermediate- and high-symptom burden, respectively. Highly symptomatic patients (33%) had clinically relevantly lower scores on HRQoL compared to the other two groups (p less then 0.001). These patients suffered mostly from pain, insomnia and fatigue. Symptom burden significantly correlated with reduced daily functioning and high levels of psychological distress. Only for highly symptomatic patients, HRQoL and symptom levels were worse compared to healthy individuals.Conclusion For the first time, we studied HRQoL in a large international cohort of ultra-rare cancer patients with distinct clinical characteristics, enabled by collaboration with patients and use of social media. We showed a considerable number of EHE patients were highly symptomatic, with a significant impact on HRQoL and psychological distress.Context Dicranopteris linearis L. (Gleicheniaceae) leaves have been reported to exert hepatoprotective activity.Objective The hepatoprotective and antioxidant effects of ethyl acetate partition of D. linearis (EADL) are investigated.Materials and methods EADL was subjected to antioxidant and anti-inflammatory studies, and phytochemical analyses. In vivo study involved six groups (n = 6) of overnight fasted Sprague Dawley rats. The test solutions [10% DMSO (normal), 10% DMSO (negative), 200 mg/kg silymarin (positive) or EADL (50, 250 or 500 mg/kg)] were administered orally once daily for 7 consecutive days followed by oral vehicle (only for normal) or hepatotoxic induction using 3 g/kg paracetamol (PCM).Results EADL exerted ≈ 90% radical scavenging effects based on the DPPH and superoxide anion radical scavenging assays, high antioxidant capacity in the oxygen radical absorbance capacity assay (≈ 555,000 units), high total phenolic content (≈ 350 mg GAE/100 g extract) (p less then 0.05), but low anti-inflammatory effect. EADL also attenuated PCM-induced liver intoxication as indicated by reduced level of serum liver enzymes; increased activity of endogenous enzymatic antioxidant (superoxide dismutase - 8.3 vs. 4.0 U/g tissue; catalase - 119 vs. 52 U/g tissue) and; reduced level of lipid peroxidation marker (2.7 vs. 5.0 µM).   • Overall, 19.8% (230 of 1,159) had diagnoses that were likely or potentially causative of headaches, and 71.2% (825 of 1,159) were normal. The remainder had findings unlikely to cause headaches. The total estimated societal cost of imaging studies for presumed primary headache imaging at our institution in 2015 was $322,422. The loss of imaging time was 845.3 hours. CONCLUSION Given the large number of normal examinations and the inappropriate use of radiography, imaging utilization in children with headaches can likely be improved. In addition to reducing ionizing radiation and the need for sedation, reductions in unnecessary imaging would result in societal cost savings and increase imaging capacity for other patients. This peptide reacts with HOCl with k2 1.8 × 106 M-1 s-1, similar to other highly-reactive disulfide-containing compounds. With low oxidant excesses, oxidation yields multiple oxidation products from the disulfide, with reaction predominating at the N-terminal Cys to give sulfenic, sulfinic and sulfonic acids, and disulfide bond cleavage. Limited oxidation occurs, with higher oxidant excesses, at Trp and His residues to give mono- and di- (for Trp) oxygenated products. Site-specific backbone cleavage also occurs between Arg and Trp, probably via initial side-chain modification. Treatment of the previously-oxidised peptide with thiols (GSH, N-Ac-Cys), results in adduction of the thiol to the oxidised peptide, with this occurring at the original disulfide bond. This gives an open-chain peptide, and a new mixed disulfide containing GSH or N-Ac-Cys as determined by mass spectrometry. Disulfide bond oxidation may therefore markedly alter the structure, activity and function of disulfide-containing proteins, and provides a potential mechanism for protein glutathionylation. ROS participate in intracellular signaling by introducing post-translational modifications to proteins and thereby altering their functions. The central nervous system (CNS) expresses different Nox isoforms during both development and adulthood. Here, we review the role of Nox-mediated ROS during CNS development. Specifically, we focus on how individual Nox isoforms contribute to signaling in neural stem cell maintenance and neuronal differentiation, as well as neurite outgrowth and guidance. We also discuss how ROS regulates the organization and dynamics of the actin cytoskeleton in the neuronal growth cone. Finally, we review recent evidence that Nox-derived ROS modulate axonal regeneration upon nervous system injury. Trauma remains one of the largest problems that the global healthcare system faces today. In the United States it remains the leading cause of death for young and middle-aged patients, and its economic burden in direct cost and loss of productivity is tremendous. Additionally, the challenge of acute pain control in orthopaedic trauma remains substantial, and the over-reliance on opioid medications has resulted in unintended acute and chronic complications and problems. Alternative pain control strategies, such as peripheral nerve block (PNB), have the potential to decrease healthcare cost, opioid consumption, and other opioid-related complications. The purpose of this review is to summarize the current state of pain control and opioid use in acute orthopaedic injury and provide an understanding of the role of PNB to improve pain management. Finally, this review provides a specific diagnosis-based treatment guideline for the use of PNB in acute orthopaedic injury. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to investigate the expression of ribonuclear protein IMP3 in laryngeal carcinogenesis, together with other biomarkers of carcinogenesis (Ki-67, p53 and cyclin D1), and to evaluate their predictive values. METHODS The study included 153 patients divided into three groups 68 operated for primary invasive laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC); 41 with precancerous lesions of atypical and abnormal hyperplasia; 44 with hyperplastic laryngeal nodule without atypia. Tissue microarray technique was used for immunohistochemical analysis. RESULTS All markers showed statistically significant differences between the three groups. The percentage of IMP3 positive cells is statistically significantly higher in LSCC group in comparison to precancerosis and control group. The percentage of Ki-67 positive cells is statistically significantly higher in LSCC group in comparison to precancerosis and control group. The percentage of p53 positive cells in LSCC group is statistically significantly higher than the control group and higher, but not statistically significant, than the precancerosis group. The percentage of cyclin D1 positive cells is statistically significantly higher in LSCC group than in precancerosis group and higher, but not statistically significant, than in the control group. All analyzed markers have good predictive values (AUC > 0.6), but the percentage of IMP3 positive cells is the only statistically significant marker in predicting whether the patient has LSCC or not. CONCLUSION Expression of Ki-67 and pronouncedly IMP3 generally follow the same pattern where control and precancerosis are similar and LSCC significantly differs, as opposed to p53 and cyclin D1.   • The N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) is an ion channel that mediates the slow, Ca2+-permeable component of glutamatergic synaptic transmission in the central nervous system (CNS). NMDARs are known to play a significant role in basic neurological functions, and their dysfunction has been implicated in several CNS disorders. Herein, we report the discovery of second-generation GluN2C/D-selective NMDAR-positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) with a dihydropyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazin-3(4H)-one core. The prototype, R-(+)-EU-1180-453, exhibits log unit improvements in the concentration needed to double receptor response, lipophilic efficiency, and aqueous solubility, and lowers cLogP by one log unit compared to the first-generation prototype CIQ. Additionally, R-(+)-EU-1180-453 was found to increase glutamate potency 2-fold, increase the response to maximally effective concentration of agonist 4-fold, and the racemate is brain-penetrant. These compounds are useful second-generation in vitro tools and a promising step toward in vivo tools for the study of positive modulation of GluN2C- and GluN2D-containing NMDA receptors.Pnicogen bonds, which are weak noncovalent interactions (NCIs), can be significantly modified by the presence of beryllium bonds, one of the strongest NCIs known.     The N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) is an ion channel that mediates the slow, Ca2+-permeable component of glutamatergic synaptic transmission in the central nervous system (CNS). NMDARs are known to play a significant role in basic neurological functions, and their dysfunction has been implicated in several CNS disorders. Herein, we report the discovery of second-generation GluN2C/D-selective NMDAR-positive allosteric modulators (PAMs) with a dihydropyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazin-3(4H)-one core. The prototype, R-(+)-EU-1180-453, exhibits log unit improvements in the concentration needed to double receptor response, lipophilic efficiency, and aqueous solubility, and lowers cLogP by one log unit compared to the first-generation prototype CIQ. Additionally, R-(+)-EU-1180-453 was found to increase glutamate potency 2-fold, increase the response to maximally effective concentration of agonist 4-fold, and the racemate is brain-penetrant. These compounds are useful second-generation in vitro tools and a promising step toward in vivo tools for the study of positive modulation of GluN2C- and GluN2D-containing NMDA receptors.Pnicogen bonds, which are weak noncovalent interactions (NCIs), can be significantly modified by the presence of beryllium bonds, one of the strongest NCIs known.   • Technology is changing the way organizations and their employees need to accomplish their work. Empirical evidence on this topic is scarce. The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the effects of technological developments on work characteristics and to derive the implications for work demands and continuous vocational education and training (CVET). The following research questions are answered What are the effects of new technologies on work characteristics? What are the implications thereof for continuous vocational education and training? Technologies, defined as digital, electrical or mechanical tools that affect the accomplishment of work tasks, are considered in various disciplines, such as sociology or psychology. A theoretical framework based on theories from these disciplines (e.g., upskilling, task-based approach) was developed and statements on the relationships between technology and work characteristics, such as complexity, autonomy, or meaningfulness, were derived. A systematic literatand for further professional and career development. Implications for the design of formal learning environments (i.e., the content, method, assessment, and guidance) include that the work demands mentioned must be part of the content of the trainings, the teachers/trainers must be equipped to promote those work demands, and that instruction models used for the learning environments must be flexible in their application.Carver and White developed the Behavioral Inhibition/Behavioral Activation Scales (the BIS/BAS Scales) based on Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory proposed by Gray. However, researches on the psychometric properties of the BIS/BAS scales in clinical samples are scarce. The present study was conducted to analyze the applicability of the BIS/BAS scales in a sample suffering from a substance use disorder (SUD) and undergoing treatment in compulsory detoxification institutions (n = 1117). Meanwhile, 822 community residents were selected for comparison. Confirmatory factor analysis was carried out to examine the construct validity and the results showed that the five-factor model was the best fit for people with a substance use disorder' data. Besides, Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the total scale was 0.808, indicating the satisfactory internal consistency reliability. Analysis of the correlation coefficient of the questionnaire with the corresponding personality traits showed that BAS was more associated with the impulsive trait. Surprisingly, participants with a substance use disorder showed more insensitivity for the reward dimension compared with that of community residents and the result of comparison between two samples supported joint subsystems hypothesis. Generally, the BIS/BAS scales showed good reliability and validity. These findings provide more direct evidence on the personality traits of people with a substance use disorder and should form the basis for further research.Background Endurance exercise in general and marathon running in particular have become increasingly popular over the past decades. After elimination of Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory 2 Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF) profiles with insufficient validity, 79 marathon runners (MA) and 27 sedentary controls (SC) remained for final analyses. Depressive symptoms were evaluated with **** Depression Inventory (BDI) and Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD). Results Marathon runners had lower scores in scales measuring somatic and cognitive complaints, stress, demoralization, hopelessness and distrust. Within the marathon group, committed runners exhibited hypomanic traits compared to regular runners. As it is necessary for sport organizations to better understand the role emotion plays in the consumer behavior of their fans, more attention needs to be paid in understanding the affective benefits of membership in a sport fan community.Although prior research has extensively examined the association of emotional intelligence (EI) with various job attitudes (e.g., job satisfaction), empirical and systematic investigation of this link within military institutions has captured considerably less attention. The present research analyzed the relationship between EI, teamwork communication, and job satisfaction among Spanish military cadets. We tested the potential unique contribution of EI to job satisfaction over and above demographics (i.e., gender and age), proactive personality, and resilience. Moreover, we also examined whether EI was indirectly linked to job satisfaction via its relationship with teamwork communication. A sample of 363 cadet officers of the Spanish General Military Academy completed questionnaires assessing EI, teamwork communication, proactive personality, resilience, and job satisfaction.   • Endophytic fungi are promising sources of bioactive substances; however, their secondary metabolites are toxic to plants, animals, and humans. This study aimed toevaluate the toxic, cytotoxic, mutagenic and oxidant/antioxidant activities of acetonitrile extract (AEPc), citrinin (CIT) and dicitrinin-A (DIC-A) of Penicillium citrinum. For this, the test substances at 0.5; 1.0; 1.5 and 2 μg/mLwere exposed for 24 and 48 h in Artemia salina, and 48 h in Allium cepa test systems. The oxidant/antioxidant test was evaluated in pre-, co- and post-treatment with the stressor hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The results suggest that the AEPc, CIT and DIC-A at 0.5; 1.0; 1.5 and 2 μg/mL showed toxicity in A. saline, with LC50 (24 h) of 2.03 μg/mL, 1.71 μg/mL and 2.29 μg/mL, and LC50 (48 h) of 0.51 μg/mL, 0.54 μg/mL and 0.54 μg/mL, respectively.In A. cepa, the test substances also exerted cytotoxic and mutagenic effects. The AEPc, CIT and DIC-A at lower concentrations modulated the damage induced by H2O2 in the proficient and mutant strains of S. cerevisiae for cytoplasmic and mitochondrial superoxide dismutase. Moreover, the AEPc at 2 μg/mL and CIT at the two highest concentrations did not affect the H2O2-induced DNA damage in the test strains. In conclusion, AEPc, CIT and DIC-A of P. citrinum may exert their toxic, cytotoxic and mutagenic effects in the test systems possibly through oxidative stress induction pathway.Background To determine the prevalence of prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) after elective clean hand surgery in order to determine whether prophylactic antibiotics are warranted in patients who have previously undergone total joint arthroplasty (TJA). Methods All patients undergoing elective clean hand surgery between 2012 and 2018 were retrospectively cross-referenced with patients who had previously undergone a TJA at the same urban academic medical center. Inclusion criteria were any patients who underwent clean hand surgery during the study period who were an adult between the ages of 30 and 90, had a previous TJA, and did not have a previous history of a PJI. All charts were reviewed to collect data on patient demographics, co-morbidities, the type of TJA and hand surgery performed, whether prophylactic antibiotics were used prior to the hand surgery, and whether a PJI occurred within 3 months of the hand surgery. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/n6022.html Results Total of 331 patients (181 females and 150 males) were identified over the 6-year period that met inclusion criteria.     Endophytic fungi are promising sources of bioactive substances; however, their secondary metabolites are toxic to plants, animals, and humans. This study aimed toevaluate the toxic, cytotoxic, mutagenic and oxidant/antioxidant activities of acetonitrile extract (AEPc), citrinin (CIT) and dicitrinin-A (DIC-A) of Penicillium citrinum. For this, the test substances at 0.5; 1.0; 1.5 and 2 μg/mLwere exposed for 24 and 48 h in Artemia salina, and 48 h in Allium cepa test systems. The oxidant/antioxidant test was evaluated in pre-, co- and post-treatment with the stressor hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The results suggest that the AEPc, CIT and DIC-A at 0.5; 1.0; 1.5 and 2 μg/mL showed toxicity in A. saline, with LC50 (24 h) of 2.03 μg/mL, 1.71 μg/mL and 2.29 μg/mL, and LC50 (48 h) of 0.51 μg/mL, 0.54 μg/mL and 0.54 μg/mL, respectively.In A. cepa, the test substances also exerted cytotoxic and mutagenic effects. The AEPc, CIT and DIC-A at lower concentrations modulated the damage induced by H2O2 in the proficient and mutant strains of S. cerevisiae for cytoplasmic and mitochondrial superoxide dismutase. Methods All patients undergoing elective clean hand surgery between 2012 and 2018 were retrospectively cross-referenced with patients who had previously undergone a TJA at the same urban academic medical center. Inclusion criteria were any patients who underwent clean hand surgery during the study period who were an adult between the ages of 30 and 90, had a previous TJA, and did not have a previous history of a PJI. Multidisciplinary clinical guidelines were also reviewed. Results The primary search yielded a total of 271 papers which following initial review was reduced to 28. Secondary search yielded 56 papers. There were no randomised controlled trials relating to squamous cell carcinoma of the skull-base and as such this review is based on cohort studies, case series and expert opinion. Conclusion Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common cancer occurring in the Head and Neck. Squamous cell carcinoma is also the most common cancer arising within the nose and sinuses of which skull-base squamous cell carcinoma is a rare subgroup. Evidence relating to the management and survival of skull-base SCC is based on expert opinion and. retrospective analyses Clinical examination and biopsy, imaging and a broad multidisciplinary team are key to the management of skull-base SCC. The information gathered should be used to guide informed discussion by suitably trained experts with patients regarding surgical approach, post-operative recovery and adjuvant or neoadjuvant treatments. The standard of care is currently to perform skull base resection with or without additional craniotomy, pedicled or free flap reconstruction in multiple layers and post-operative radiation (usually photons or protons). Methods Using a targeted search of the pre-clinical literature and clinicaltrials.gov for kinase and epigenetic pathways in pHGG, we collectively describe how these mechanisms are being targeted in pre-clinical animal models and in current clinical trials, as well as propose unexplored therapeutic possibilities for future investigations. Results Relevant pHGG kinases are targetable by several FDA-approved or clinical-stage kinase inhibitors, including altered BRAF/MET/NTRK/ALK and wild-type PI3K/EGFR/PDGFR/VEGF/AXL. Epigenetic proteins implicated in pHGG are also clinically targetable and include histone erasers, writers and readers such as HDACs, demethylases LSD1/JMJD3, methyltransferase EZH2, chromatin reader bromodomains, and chromatin remodeler subunit BMI-1. Each identified paediatric NICT was screened and analysed for sponsors, funders, type of intervention, therapeutic area, design characteristics and associated publications. Results The search identified 439 unique NICTs. When stratifying the trials by enrolment ages, 86 trials were found involving the paediatric population. Most trials investigated the use of medicinal products and were focused on cancer or cardiovascular diseases. The most common sources of the funding were non-profit organizations. Furthermore, from the total number of completed trials, only half of them already published their results. Conclusion The main shortcomings-specifically, ethical, methodological and, in particular, economic obstacles were identified. Here, we use genomics to investigate a group of 45 reference strains (type strains) of former Saccharomyces species that are currently regarded as conspecific with S. cerevisiae. We show that these variants are distributed across the phylogenetic spectrum of domesticated lineages of S. cerevisiae, with emphasis on the most relevant technological groups, but absent in wild lineages. We analyzed the phylogeny of a representative and well-balanced dataset of S. cerevisiae genomes that deepened our current ecological and biogeographic assessment of wild populations and allowed the distinction, among wild populations, of those associated with low- or high-sugar natural environments. Some wild lineages from China were merged with wild lineages from other regions in Asia and in the New World, thus giving more resolution to the current model of expansion from Asia to the rest of the world. We reassessed several key domestication markers among the different domesticated populations. The device is inspired by Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), which is an effective rehabilitation method for stroke patients that promotes the relearning of motor skills by repeated training. However, traditional NDT training is very labor intensive and time consuming for therapists, thus, stroke patients usually cannot receive sufficient rehabilitation training. Therefore, we developed a mobile assisted device that can automatically repeat the therapists' intervention and help increase patient training time. The proposed mobile trainer, which allows the users to move at their preferred speeds, consists of three systems the gait detection system, the motor control system, and the movable mechanism. The gait detection system applies IMUs to detect the user's gait events and triggers the motor control system accordingly. The motor control system receives the triggering signals and imitates the therapist's intervention patterns by robust control. The movable mechanism integrates these first two systems to form a mobile gait-training device. Finally, we conducted preliminary tests and defined two performance indexes to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed trainer. Based on the results, the mobile trainer is deemed successful at improving the testing subjects' walking ability.This paper describes the first simulations and experimental results of a novel segmented Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) reflector. Large portions of the rotating LiDAR data are typically discarded due to occlusion or a misplaced field of view (FOV). The proposed reflector solves this problem by reflecting the entire FOV of the rotating LiDAR towards a target. Optical simulation results, using Zemax OpticStudio, suggest that adding a reflector reduces the range of the embedded LiDAR with only 3.9 %. Furthermore, pattern simulation results show that a radially reshaped FOV can be configured to maximize point cloud density, maximize coverage, or a combination. Here, the maximum density is defined by the number of mirror segments in the reflector. Finally, a prototype was used for validation. Intensity, Euclidean error, and sample standard deviation were evaluated and, except for reduced-intensity values, no significant reduction in the LiDAR's performance was found. Conversely, the number of usable measurements increased drastically. The mirrors of the reflector give the LiDAR multiple viewpoints to the target. Ultimately, it is argued that this can enhance the object revisit rate, instantaneous resolution, object classification range, and robustness against occlusion and adverse weather conditions. Consequently, the reflector design enables long-range rotating LiDARs to achieve the robust super-resolution needed for autonomous driving at highway speeds.

Ethnobotanists have documented the traditional uses of K. africana, which include treatment of skin disorders, cancer and gynecological complaints, among others. Formerly considered as distinct species, some of the synonyms represent variants with important industrial implications, like Saccharomyces boulardii or Saccharomyces diastaticus, but with an unclear status, especially among the fermentation industry, the biotechnology community and biologists not informed on taxonomic matters. Here, we use genomics to investigate a group of 45 reference strains (type strains) of former Saccharomyces species that are currently regarded as conspecific with S. cerevisiae. We show that these variants are distributed across the phylogenetic spectrum of domesticated lineages of S. cerevisiae, with emphasis on the most relevant technological groups, but absent in wild lineages. We analyzed the phylogeny of a representative and well-balanced dataset of S. cerevisiae genomes that deepened our current ecological and biogeographic assessment of wild populations and allowed the distinction, among wild populations, of those associated with low- or high-sugar natural environments. Some wild lineages from China were merged with wild lineages from other regions in Asia and in the New World, thus giving more resolution to the current model of expansion from Asia to the rest of the world. We reassessed several key domestication markers among the different domesticated populations. In some cases, we could trace their origin to wild reservoirs, while in other cases gene inactivation associated with domestication was also found in wild populations, thus suggesting that natural adaptation to sugar-rich environments predated domestication.This paper demonstrates the development of an automatic mobile trainer employing inertial movement units (IMUs). The device is inspired by Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), which is an effective rehabilitation method for stroke patients that promotes the relearning of motor skills by repeated training. However, traditional NDT training is very labor intensive and time consuming for therapists, thus, stroke patients usually cannot receive sufficient rehabilitation training. Therefore, we developed a mobile assisted device that can automatically repeat the therapists' intervention and help increase patient training time. The proposed mobile trainer, which allows the users to move at their preferred speeds, consists of three systems the gait detection system, the motor control system, and the movable mechanism. The gait detection system applies IMUs to detect the user's gait events and triggers the motor control system accordingly. The motor control system receives the triggering signals and imitates the therapist's intervention patterns by robust control. The movable mechanism integrates these first two systems to form a mobile gait-training device. Finally, we conducted preliminary tests and defined two performance indexes to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed trainer. Based on the results, the mobile trainer is deemed successful at improving the testing subjects' walking ability.This paper describes the first simulations and experimental results of a novel segmented Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) reflector. Large portions of the rotating LiDAR data are typically discarded due to occlusion or a misplaced field of view (FOV). The proposed reflector solves this problem by reflecting the entire FOV of the rotating LiDAR towards a target. Optical simulation results, using Zemax OpticStudio, suggest that adding a reflector reduces the range of the embedded LiDAR with only 3.9 %. Furthermore, pattern simulation results show that a radially reshaped FOV can be configured to maximize point cloud density, maximize coverage, or a combination. Here, the maximum density is defined by the number of mirror segments in the reflector. Finally, a prototype was used for validation. Intensity, Euclidean error, and sample standard deviation were evaluated and, except for reduced-intensity values, no significant reduction in the LiDAR's performance was found. Conversely, the number of usable measurements increased drastically. The mirrors of the reflector give the LiDAR multiple viewpoints to the target. Ultimately, it is argued that this can enhance the object revisit rate, instantaneous resolution, object classification range, and robustness against occlusion and adverse weather conditions. Consequently, the reflector design enables long-range rotating LiDARs to achieve the robust super-resolution needed for autonomous driving at highway speeds.
