Atrial fibrillation (AF) represents the most common arrhythmia and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality generating high social costs. Due to its high prevalence, AF is usually managed not only by cardiologists but also by general practitioners or clinicians in emergency departments. The conventional classification of AF includes "recent‑onset AF" defined as an arrhythmia episode shorter than 48 hours. In patients with a definite duration of AF of less than 24 hours and a very low-risk profile (CHA2DS2VASc of 0 in men and 1 in women), the thromboembolic risk seems to be low, and the standard 4‑week anticoagulation therapy is now regarded as optional treatment. Cardioversion (electrical or pharmacological) in recent‑onset AF represents a valid rhythm control strategy. Electrical cardioversion is usually reserved for hemodynamically unstable patients and performed with biphasic waveform shocks. On the other hand, pharmacological cardioversion is preferred in hemodynamically stable patients. Several antiarrhythmic drugs have been studied so far, but some questions still remain unresolved mainly due to lack of randomized clinical trials and prospective studies. #link# The current guidelines do not uniformly agree on which drug to use for pharmacological cardioversion, and drug preference varies widely in clinical practice. The aim of this narrative review is to sum up and critically evaluate novel evidence regarding recent‑onset AF as well as to provide some practical considerations particularly focused on rhythm control with pharmacological cardioversion.
Valve-sparing aortic root replacement (VSARR) techniques are an alternative to the classic Bentall procedure when aortic root aneurysm is not accompanied by aortic valve stenosis, and the regurgitant aortic valve is amenable to repair.
The aim of the study was to assess long -term outcomes of valve sparing aortic root replacement using the David technique and the Yacoub technique.
A total of 101 consecutive, elective VSARR procedures were performed from January 2010 to April 2020 including 52 David procedures (51.5%) and 49 Yacoub procedures (48.5%). We analyzed mortality, freedom from reoperation, and freedom from aortic valve regurgitation. The analysis was performed for the entire study cohort and for 2 subgroups the David technique and the Yacoub technique.

Follow‑up echocardiography performed at a median (IQR) of 18.7 (2.5‒36.7) months postsurgery revealed freedom from aortic valve regurgitation in 90.8% of patients. No significant differences in mortality, freedom from reoperation, and freedom from aortic valve regurgitation were noted between the David and Yacoub subgroups.

The resulting semitransparent thin film was characterized by XPS, FT-IR, cyclic voltammetry and optical techniques, confirming the good outcome of the electropolymerization process. AFM investigations permitted to highlight an inherent disordered granular morphology, in which the grain-to-grain separation depends upon the application of bending. The electrical resistance of the thin film was characterized as a function of bending (in the range 0°-90°), showing promising responsivity to low bending angles (10°-30°). The ΔR/R0 variations turn out to be 8 %,16 % and 20 % for bending angles equal to 10°, 20° and 30°, respectively. Linear and logistic regressions were performed with patients' CCBRS and FQoLS scores as independent variables, and percent excess weight loss (%EWL), length of stay (LOS), complications, readmissions and loss to follow-up as dependent variables. The prediction of CCBRS ratings from FQoLS social support items was also evaluated. A total of 415 patients were included in the analysis. There were significant associations between the CCBRS and three of the four relevant FQoLS self-ratings. As CCBRS and FQoLS scores increased, complications decreased significantly. The CCBRS alone additionally predicted decreased length of hospital stay and approached significance for predicting decreased readmission rates. There were no associations between %EWL and behavior ratings. The degree of patients' social support is associated with important bariatric surgery outcomes. It is possible to obtain this valuable information via the administration of brief assessments prior to bariatric surgery.

To examine if excessive weight and fat gain can be prevented among healthy weight, obesity susceptible children aged 2 to 6 years.
Eligible children were identified based on information on either a high birth weight, maternal pre-pregnancy obesity or maternal low educational level from national registries, and randomized into an intervention group, a control group and a shadow control group. All children with overweight at baseline were excluded from subsequent analysis (n = 196), while healthy weight children were included (n = 926). The intervention was designed to deliver improvements in diet and physical activity habits, optimization of sleep quantity and quality, and reduction of family stress. The average intervention period was 1.3 years.
Intention-to-treat analyses indicated a lower gain in percentage fat mass and a higher gain in fat-free mass in the intervention group compared with the control group.

This study was conducted to characterize the pathology of natural cases of CSF in northern Vietnam in 2018 and their genetic prevalence. A total of 10 representative pigs were collected from four provinces (Hung Yen, Ha Noi, Quang Ninh and Thai Binh) during five outbreaks and examined pathologically. The gross and histopathological findings showed the disease was expressed as the acute or the subacute to chronic form of CSF, depending on the age of the animals. The most consistently observed lesions associated with infection by the classical ***** fever virus (CSFV) included lymphoid depletions in tonsils, lymph node and spleen; histiocytic hyperplasia in spleen; cerebral haemorrhage; perivascular cuffing in the brain; renal erythrodiapedesis; urothelial vacuolation and degeneration and interstitial pneumonia. The immunohistochemical findings showed a ubiquitous CSFV antigen mainly in the monocytes/macrophages and in the epithelial and endothelial cells in various organs. CSFV neurotropism was also found in the small neurons of the cerebrum and the ganglia of the myenteric plexus. Analysis of the full-length envelope protein (E2) genome sequence showed that all strains were genetically clustered into subgenotype 2.5, sharing a nucleotide identity of 94.0%-100.00%. Based on the results of this study, the strain was categorized as a moderately virulent CSFV.
Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common valvular disease in western countries. Unless treated, it is associated with a poor prognosis. Surgical aortic valve replacement, the gold-standard approach, aims to increase survival and improve quality of life. In recent years, though, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become the treatment of choice in elderly, high-risk patients who are denied open surgery. To date, however, little is known about their personal psychological experience after undergoing TAVI.
This study aimed to explore patients' experiences during everyday life before and after TAVI.
Altogether, 14 elderly Swedish patients (9 women, 5 men), treated with TAVI, were interviewed between 2 and 6months after the implantation. The interviews were analysed using qualitative content analysis.
Analysis of the participants' experiences was divided into two domains before and after, that is, life with AS vs. life after TAVI. From these domains, four categories were derived (1) adapting decision to undergo TAVI on personal goals. These findings might be helpful when implementing person-centred care.
In patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), functional disease scores are frequently used to evaluate the course of the disease and the efficacy of treatment. The aim of the present study was to propose minimal clinically important difference (MCID) values for motor scores in order to estimate the degree of change within a functional score that can be considered clinically meaningful.
To estimate the MCID, distribution-based approaches were used. For each assessment [Revised Upper Limb Module (RULM), Hammersmith Functional Motor Scale Expanded (HFMSE) and 6-min walk test (6MWT)] and subgroup (SMA type 2, SMA type 3, ambulatory and non-ambulatory), the following MCID values based on a cohort of 51 adults with SMA were calculated standard error of measurement (SEm), one-half of standard deviation (1/2 SD) and one-third of standard deviation (1/3 SD) of patients' baseline scores.
For the overall cohort, the SEm, 1/2 SD and 1/3 SD MCID values were 2.9, 6.4 and 4.3 for the RULM and 4.3, 10.6 and 7.0 for the HFMSE, respectively. #link# Subgroup analysis led to generally lower standard deviations and consecutively lower MCID values due to the significantly different motor functions of the groups. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/NVP-TAE684.html for the 6MWT were 55.5m, 71.1m and 47.8m.

The Fragility Index (FI) is defined in trials with two equal treatment group sizes, with a dichotomous or time-to-event outcome, and is calculated as the minimum number of conversions from nonevent to event in the treatment group needed to shift the P-value from Fisher's exact test over the .05 threshold. As the index lacks a well-defined probability motivation, its interpretation is challenging for consumers. We clarify what the FI may be capturing by separately considering two scenarios (a) what the FI is capturing mathematically when the probability model is correct and (b) how well the FI captures violations of probability model assumptions. By calculating the posterior probability of a treatment effect, we show that when the probability model is correct, the FI inappropriately penalizes small trials for using fewer events than larger trials to achieve the same significance level.

To investigate multiple sclerosis (MS) optical coherence tomography (OCT) cross-sectional correlations with central nervous system (CNS) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL), ganglion cell layer (GCL), inner plexiform layer (IPL), inner (INL) and outer nuclear layer (ONL) of 54 relapsing remitting (RRMS) and 38 progressive (PMS, 9 primary and 29 secondary) patients were measured. With less than 3 months brain parenchymal fraction (BPF), spinal cord (SC), total gray matter (GM) and white matter volumes were calculated. Demographical and clinical data was compared according to the history of optic neuritis (HON). Relationships between OCT and MRI data were assessed using multivariable linear regression models, adjusting for age, gender and disease duration, taking into account HON and disease subtype.

To explore the role of cardiovascular risk factors and the different NOTCH-3 mutations to explain the variability observed in the clinical presentation of CADASIL.
This was a retrospective cohort study of 331 individuals, 90 were carriers of four mutations in the NOTCH3 gene. These four mutations are the ones identified in our region from the genetic evaluation of probands. Cox proportional hazards models were fitted to estimate the effect of genetic and cardiovascular factors on the onset of migraine, first stroke, and dementia. To investigate multiple sclerosis (MS) optical coherence tomography (OCT) cross-sectional correlations with central nervous system (CNS) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL), ganglion cell layer (GCL), inner plexiform layer (IPL), inner (INL) and outer nuclear layer (ONL) of 54 relapsing remitting (RRMS) and 38 progressive (PMS, 9 primary and 29 secondary) patients were measured. With less than 3 months brain parenchymal fraction (BPF), spinal cord (SC), total gray matter (GM) and white matter volumes were calculated. Demographical and clinical data was compared according to the history of optic neuritis (HON). Relationships between OCT and MRI data were assessed using multivariable linear regression models, adjusting for age, gender and disease duration, taking into account HON and disease subtype. Cerebellum (p = 0.008), pRNFL (p = 0.001), GCL (p = 0.001) and IPL (p = 0.001) were thinner, while INL was thicker (p = 0.02) if HON. SC correlated better with nasal pRNFL sectors in eyes with HON (all eyes average pRNFL p = 0.035 η = 0.213; N-pRNFL p = 0.04 η = 0.36, NI-pRNFL p = 0.0001 η = 0.484. To develop a more comprehensive description of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), a novel syndrome linked to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, by conducting a systematic analysis of studies from different settings that used various inclusion criteria.
MIS-C studies were identified by searching PubMed and Embase as well as preprint repositories and article references to identify studies of MIS-C cases published from April 25, 2020, through June 29, 2020. MIS-C study metadata were assessed and information on case demographics, clinical symptoms, laboratory measurements, treatments, and outcomes were summarized and contrasted between studies.
Eight studies were identified representing a total of 440 MIS-C cases. Inclusion criteria varied by study 3 studies selected patients diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, 2 required cardiovascular involvement, and 3 had broader multisystem inclusion criteria. Median age of patients by study ranged from 7.3 to 10years, and 59% of patients were male. The Pediatric Heart Network conducted a double-blind trial involving infants with single ventricle physiology randomized to receive enalapril or placebo and followed to 14months of age. Data including demographics, drug administration, hemodynamic monitoring, laboratory measurements, adverse events, and survival were extracted from the public use data set and compared between the placebo and enalapril-treated groups.
The Infant Single Ventricle trial randomized 230 patients, with 115 patients in each group. Initial enalapril dose was 0.10mg/kg/d and median maximal dose was 0.38mg/kg/d. There was no significant difference in change in blood pressure at study drug initiation or when resuming study drug after Glenn surgery. The incidence of hyperkalemia and neutropenia did not differ between groups. In an earlier study we reported the higher efficiency in neuroprotection against HFD-induced brain lipotoxicity when combining the two drugs (GSF + Xe). As a result repurposing Xe as an adjunct to GSF therapy against stroke appeared relevant and worthy of investigation. I/R insult disrupted the blood brain barrier (BBB) as assessed by EB dye extravasation, increased water and Na+ within the brain. Ultrastructurally I/R altered the brain blood capillaries at the vicinity of hippocampus dentate gyrus area as assessed by transmission and scanning electron microscopy. I/R altered lipid metabolism as revealed by LDL/HDL ratio, lipase activity, and FFA profiles. Moreover, I/R induced neuro-inflammation as assessed by down-regulation of anti-inflammatory CD 56 and up-regulation of pro-inflammatory CD 68 antigen. Importantly almost all I/R-induced disturbances were retrieved partially upon Xe or GSF on their own, and optimally when combining the two drugs. CPX-351, a liposomal encapsulation of cytarabine and daunorubicin at a synergistic 51 molar ratio, is indicated for adults with newly diagnosed, therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia or acute myeloid leukemia with myelodysplasia-related changes. In preclinical species, this article demonstrated (1) similar release of cytarabine and daunorubicin by CPX-351 in plasma; (2) similar patterns of metabolism of cytarabine and daunorubicin following administration of CPX-351 versus non-liposomal cytarabine/daunorubicin combination; (3) prolonged tissue exposure to CPX-351; (4) dramatically different tissue distribution of cytarabine and daunorubicin following administration of CPX-351 versus non-liposomal combination (tissueplasma ratios generally 1, respectively); and (5) dramatically lower unbound plasma and tissue concentrations of cytarabine and daunorubicin following administration of CPX-351 versus non-liposomal combination. In this study, we assessed the regulatory role of the gene in cell physiology. Transcription of the gene was specifically downregulated by the thiol-specific oxidant, diamide, and by heat stress. Cells exposed to diamide showed decreased transcription of genes involved in cell division and these effects were more profound in ΔwhiA cells. In addition, the ΔwhiA cells showed sensitivity to thiol-specific oxidants, DNA-damaging agents, and high temperature. Further, downregulation of sigH (NCgl0733), the central regulator in stress responses, along with master regulatory genes in cell metabolism, was observed in the ΔwhiA strain. Moreover, the amount of cAMP in the ΔwhiA cells in the early stationary phase was only at 30% level of that for the wild-type strain. Assisted breathing with mechanical ventilators is a necessary part of care for many cervical injured individuals, but it is also associated with increased risk of secondary complications such as infection, muscle atrophy and maladaptive plasticity. Pre-clinical studies with epidural stimulation (EDS) have identified it as an alternative/additional method to support adequate lung ventilation without mechanical assistance. The full potential of EDS, however, may be limited by spinal inhibitory mechanisms within the injured spinal cord. The goal of the present work is to assess the potential improvement for EDS in combination with pharmacological disinhibition of spinal circuits following complete high cervical SCI. All experiments were performed in decerebrate, unanesthetized, non-paralyzed (n = 13) and paralyzed (n = 8) adult Sprague-Dawley rats 6 h following a complete C1 transection. The combination of high-frequency EDS (HF-EDS) at the C4 spinal segment with intrathecal delivery of GABA and glycine receptors antagonists (GABAzine and strychnine, respectively) resulted in significantly increased phrenic motor output, tidal volume and amplitude of diaphragm electrical activity compared to HF-EDS alone. #link# Thus, it appears that spinal fast inhibitory mechanisms limit phrenic motor output and present a new neuropharmacological target to improve paced breathing in individuals with cervical SCI.
Robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD) has gradually been accepted as it has overcome some of the limitations of laparoscopic surgery. https://www.selleckchem.com/ following RPD in elderly patients are still uncertain. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of RPD in elderly patients.
The demographics and perioperative outcomes of a consecutive series of patients who underwent RPD between January 2018 and September 2019, were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into 2 groups elderly patients (≥75 years) and younger patients (<75 years).
Of 431 patients who were included in this study, 77 were elderly patients and 354 were younger patients. Elderly patients had a significantly higher ASA score than younger patients (P<0.001). There were no significant differences in operative time, estimated blood loss and blood transfusion rate between groups (P>0.05). Elderly patients had significantly higher morbidity and longer postoperative hospital stay than younger patients (49.3% vs. 31.1%, P=0.002; 22.8 vs. 13.3 days, P<0.001, respectively). However, the reoperation, 90-day readmission and mortality rates were comparable in the two groups (P>0.05). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that a higher ASA score was the only independent factor for postoperative morbidity (OR 2.02, 95% CI 1.06-3.88, P=0.03), while old age was not (OR 0.81, 95% CI 0.36-1.81, P=0.80).
This study demonstrated that RDP was safe and feasible in elderly patients. Age should not be a contraindication to RPD. Elderly patients with careful patient selection should be considered for RPD.

CPX-351, a liposomal encapsulation of cytarabine and daunorubicin at a synergistic 51 molar ratio, is indicated for adults with newly diagnosed, therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia or acute myeloid leukemia with myelodysplasia-related changes. Of 431 patients who were included in this study, 77 were elderly patients and 354 were younger patients. Elderly patients had a significantly higher ASA score than younger patients (P<0.001). Elderly patients had significantly higher morbidity and longer postoperative hospital stay than younger patients (49.3% vs. 31.1%, P=0.002; 22.8 vs. 13.3 days, P<0.001, respectively). However, the reoperation, 90-day readmission and mortality rates were comparable in the two groups (P>0.05). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that a higher ASA score was the only independent factor for postoperative morbidity (OR 2.02, 95% CI 1.06-3.88, P=0.03), while old age was not (OR 0.81, 95% CI 0.36-1.81, P=0.80). Modulating the immune system is recognized to cause cutaneous immune-related adverse events (irAEs). We conducted a retrospective observational cohort study of adult patients with melanoma at our tertiary referral centre, who received CPI therapy from 2006 to March 2018. This is the single largest study of cutaneous irAEs occurring on CPI therapy in patients with melanoma to date and encompasses 12 years. The results showed that cutaneous toxicity occurs in 24% of patients but is generally manageable, with less then 5% patients discontinuing treatment.

A description is provided of histological findings in sampled rib fractures in a retrospective consecutive series of infants, aged 1month to 1year, who suffered sudden death. All had undergone cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and were investigated by use of skeletal survey, whole body computed tomography (CT), and invasive postmortem (PM). There was no suspicion of child abuse. 15 infants were studied, 9 of whom had anterior/anterolateral rib fractures; slides were available with consent for use in seven. Skeletal survey identified no fractures. CT and PM showed 46 fractures, 27 of which were examined histologically. Marrow cavity haemorrhage>2mm in diameter was seen in 55% of fractures; easily identifiable red cells were seen in the fracture gap in 36%, and beneath the periosteum in 36%. Loss of intact osteocytes from lacunae in bone fragments at the fracture margins relative to distant areas was obvious in 50% of fractures.

To explore experiences of parents of young females with cerebral palsy (CP) and intellectual disability at the onset of puberty.
This was a phenomenological qualitative study. We conducted phone interviews of parents of young females with CP and intellectual disability who had been seen in the CP center at a freestanding children's hospital within the prior 2years. Inclusion criteria were English-speaking parents of young females who had combined diagnoses of CP and intellectual disability. Interviews were coded and analyzed by the research team facilitated by Dedoose software.
Nine interviews were conducted with parents of daughters aged 14 to 24years. All daughters used wheelchairs for mobility and augmentative technology for communication. Despite homogeneity in functional ability, there was marked variation in parental perception of the significance of puberty for their daughters. Families often learned about reproductive health from informal social networks. Although families acknowledged the need for sexual abuse screening, there was little consensus about how to do it, and most denied that their own daughter could ever be abused.
Parents of young females with CP and intellectual disability have diverse reproductive health beliefs that health care providers must explore in order to provide appropriate recommendations for management of puberty.

A wide range of probiotic products is available on the market and can be easily purchased over the counter and unlike pharmaceutical drugs, their commercial distribution is not strictly regulated. In this study, ten probiotic preparations commercially available for children's consumption in the Republic of the Philippines (PH) and the Republic of Korea (SK) have been investigated. #link# The analyses included determination of viable counts and taxonomic identification of the bacterial species present in each formulation. The status of each product was assessed by comparing the results with information and claims provided on the label. In addition to their molecular identification, safety assessment of the isolated strains was conducted by testing for hemolysis, biogenic amine production and antibiotic resistance. One out of the ten products contained lower viable numbers of recovered microorganisms than claimed on the label. Enterococcus strains, although not mentioned on the label, were isolated from four products. Some of these isolates produced biogenic amines and were resistant to one or several antibiotics. Metagenomic analyses of two products revealed that one product did not contain most of the microorganisms declared in its specification. The study demonstrated that some commercial probiotic products for children did not match their label claims. Infants and young children belong to the most vulnerable members of society, and food supplements including probiotics destined for this consumer group require careful checking and strict regulation before commercial distribution.In the work environment, there are usually different pathologies that are related to Repetitive Efforts and Movements (REM) that tend to predominantly affect the upper limbs. In this study, CaS inclusions were extracted from CC slab of Ni20Mn6 steel using the electrolytic extraction and investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM)-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The CaS inclusions morphologies vary with their locations in the CC slab and, thus, are classified into five categories. The thermodynamics calculated results showed that CaS inclusions precipitated at the end of solidification due to the microsegregation of sulfur and calcium in the interdendrite liquid and finally precipitated along the austenite grain boundary. The macrosegregation degree of solutes in different regions is one of the reasons that affect the size of CaS inclusion. The morphologies of CaS inclusion are affected by the solidification structure of slab and austenite grain boundary.

The secondary objective is to review current strategies for educating health professionals and student trainees. The CaS inclusions morphologies vary with their locations in the CC slab and, thus, are classified into five categories. The thermodynamics calculated results showed that CaS inclusions precipitated at the end of solidification due to the microsegregation of sulfur and calcium in the interdendrite liquid and finally precipitated along the austenite grain boundary. The macrosegregation degree of solutes in different regions is one of the reasons that affect the size of CaS inclusion. Left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy (LVNC) is a rare congenital cardiomyopathy characterized by increased trabeculation in one or more segments of the ventricle. LVNC presented with non-specific symptoms and highly variable clinical presentation ranging from asymptomatic to progressive heart failure and recurrent or life-threatening arrhythmias.
54-year-old Black man with a history of hypertension, diabetes and end-stage renal disease presented with one day palpitations and lightheadedness following a dialysis session. He denied any dyspnea or syncope. On examination, blood pressure was 175/91 mmHg with irregular pulse. No murmur, rubs or gallops were appreciated. Laboratory were unremarkable except increased creatinine and mild anemia with normal thyroid function test. Electrocardiogram (ECG) revealed atrial fibrillation with normal ventricular rate. Transthoracic echocardiogram revealed mildly increased left ventricular (LV) wall thickness with prominent trabeculation and ejection fraction of 55-60 percent, a pseudo-normal LV filling pattern, with concomitant abnormal relaxation and increased filling pressure, suggestive of LVNC. The patient was switched to apixaban. Genetic testing was recommended for family members.

We present a case of a 64-year-old male with severe plaque psoriasis complaining of substernal chest pain whose coronary angiography demonstrated CAE of the left anterior descending and circumflex arteries. Due to its pro-inflammatory state, psoriasis is associated with various systemic manifestations including cardiac and vascular complications. With possibly a similar underlying pathophysiological mechanism, we describe to the best of our knowledge the first case of CAE in a patient with severe psoriasis.Cardiac free wall rupture (CFWR) is an uncommon complication of myocardial infarction, cardiac-based procedures, and blunt chest trauma. Cardiac tamponade and shock which occurs as a result of CFWR results in a high mortality rate. Despite the high mortality rate, there is a window of opportunity for intervention in selected patients with acute or subacute free wall rupture. Hence, prompt diagnosis and intervention are key to prevent cardiac tamponade and death. Even though emergency surgical repair is the standard treatment for the CWFR, the catheter-based procedure has provided an alternative treatment option, especially, in the high-risk surgical patients. For instance, Amplatzer occluder® (AO), a device which is used in repairing congenital septal swall defect, is being used as an alternative method of treatment in CFWR. In this systemic review, we assessed the 19 cases of CFWR occurring after invasive cardiac procedures who underwent repair with the utilization of AO®. The study shows that the successful rate of percutaneous closure of CFWR was 84.3% (16/19) with a mortality rate of 15.7% (3/19) in this cohort. Therefore, the in-hospital mortality rate of CFWR closure is comparable with the average in-house mortality rate of emergency surgical repair which is 14%. Furthermore, we found that AO® placement technique has a lower mortality rate compared to the other less-invasive methods such as percutaneous intrapericardial fibrin-glue injection which has a mortality rate of 25%. In conclusion, employing AO® in CFWR repair not only serves as the treatment of choice in the high-risk surgical candidates but could also be applied as an alternative method in the general population. However, further studies are required to assess the outcome and mortality rate of using A® in CFWR to provide us with a more consistent and accurate data.

The surface roughness and the hydrophobicity increased with the incorporation of graphene. The ZnO-rGO coatings exhibited high activity against the Gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. The 1 wt% rGO coated surfaces showed the highest antibacterial effect in only a few minutes of illumination with up to 5-log reduction in colony forming units, which remained essentially free of bacterial colonization and biofilm formation.
