  • Improved management of interrupted aortic arch has increased long-term survival rates. Longer life expectancies in neonates and children surgically treated for interrupted aortic arch may necessitate complex reinterventions when sequelae develop in adulthood. We report the case of a 24-year-old man who had undergone initial repair of interrupted aortic arch type B at one week and reintervention at 6 years of age. He presented with a 5.5 × 9-cm pseudoaneurysm of the proximal descending thoracic aorta. He underwent surgical replacement of his distal aortic arch and proximal descending thoracic aorta, with a bypass to his left subclavian artery. Six consecutive patients with occluded access veins and well-developed collateral networks underwent a procedure in which the occluded vein was recanalized by snaring the existing atrial lead via transfemoral access. Upgrading the device was successful in all patients; none had intraprocedural complications. We report our experience with bidirectional Glenn shunt placement as a palliative procedure for complex congenitally corrected transposition. We retrospectively identified 50 consecutive patients who had been diagnosed with congenitally corrected transposition accompanied by left ventricular outflow tract obstruction and ventricular septal defect and who had then undergone palliative bidirectional Glenn shunt placement at our institution from January 2005 through December 2014. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to subsequent surgeries Fontan completion (total cavopulmonary connection, 13 patients) (group 1), anatomic repair (hemi-Mustard and Rastelli procedures without Glenn takedown, 11 patients) (group 2), and prolonged palliation (no further surgery, 26 patients) (group 3). After shunt placement, no patient died or had ventricular dysfunction. Overall, mean oxygen saturation increased significantly from 79.5% ± 13.5% preoperatively to 94.1% ± 7.3% (P less then 0.001). The median time from shunt placement to Fontan completion and anatomic repair, respectively, was 2.1 years (range, 1.6-5.2 yr) and 1.1 years (range, 0.6-2.4 yr). Only 2 late deaths occurred, both in group 1. In group 3, time from shunt placement to latest follow-up was 4.5 years (range, 2.3-8 yr). At latest follow-up, mean oxygen saturation was 91.6% ± 10.3%, and no patients had impaired ventricular function. Bidirectional Glenn shunt placement as an optional palliative procedure for complex congenitally corrected transposition has favorable outcomes. Later, patients can feasibly be treated by Fontan completion or anatomic repair. A total of 212 patients were enrolled (98% men; mean age, 65 ± 9 yr). Major comorbidities were hypertension in 187 patients (88%), dyslipidemia in 186 (88%), and diabetes mellitus in 95 (45%). Among the 176 patients (83%) who completed the 6MWD test, the incidence of **** at one year was 22% (acute coronary syndrome in 17%; heart failure admission in 4%; and death in 3%). The area under the curve for **** was 0.59, and 6MWD was shorter for patients with **** than for those without (290 vs 326 m; P=0.03). For 39 patients with previous heart failure who completed the 6MWD test, the area under the curve was 0.64 for **** and 0.78 for heart failure admission. We retrospectively reviewed the charts of patients with symptomatic premature ventricular contractions who underwent ablation with a contact force-sensing catheter (56 patients, SmartTouch) or conventional catheter (59 patients, ThermoCool) at our hospital from August 2013 through December 2015. During a mean follow-up of 16 ± 5 months, 3 patients in the conventional group had recurrences, compared with none in the contact force group. Complications occurred only in the conventional group (one steam pop; 2 ablations suspended because of significantly increasing impedance). In the contact force group, the median contact force during ablation was 10 g (interquartile range, 7-14 g). Times for overall procedure (36.9 ± 5 min), fluoroscopy (86.3 ± 22.7 s), and ablation (60.3 ± 21.4 s) were significantly shorter in the contact force group than in the conventional group (46.

  • The major and minor components in granular soil materials determine their properties and behavior. This study explores the transitional behavior within threshold fines fraction of soil mixtures based on the data from the literature and experiments. From the literature survey, the void ratio, shear wave velocity, compression index, and friction angle capture the transitional turning point between the low and data-adjusted high threshold fines fractions. In particular, there is a dramatic change in hydraulic conductivity below the low threshold fines fraction that highlights the critical role of small amounts of fines in the fluid flow (e.g., clogging). From an experimental study, the engineering properties of natural soil samples identified using deformation and elastic wave sensors show transitional trends within the Revised Soil Classification System framework. The evolution of compressibility and shear wave velocity indicate that either coarse, fine, or both particles are likely to contribute to large and small strain stiffnesses when the effective stress is below 400 kPa. Thereafter, both engineering properties indicate that the soil sample retains a memory of in-situ overburden pressure when the effective stress is around 400 kPa. There is a critical role of fines that are slightly higher than low threshold fines fraction on engineering properties that promote the application of Revised Soil Classification System RSCS to natural soils.The development of new food preservatives is essential to prevent foodborne outbreaks or food spoilage due to microbial growth, enzymatic activity or oxidation. Furthermore, new compounds that substitute the commonly used synthetic food preservatives are needed to stifle the rising problem of microbial resistance. In this scenario, we report herein, as far as we know, for the first time the use of the zein protein as a gating moiety and its application for the controlled release of essential oil components (EOCs). The current research aligns to this course, in an attempt to build an automated and autonomous software tool, capable of reducing the energy consumption of a water treatment and distribution facility, by optimizing the water sources usage. Based on several previous researches, the present paper details both the complete automation of the optimizing strategy inside a proactive historian application and the tests executed with the finished solution. Possessing the abilities to directly influence the monitored system in a non-invasive manner, and to link all the sequences of the algorithm automatically, the solution is now ready for long-term functioning without any external interference.Alterations in the metabolism of sphingolipids, a class of biologically active molecules in cell membranes with direct effect on vascular homeostasis, are increasingly recognized as important determinant in different vascular disorders. However, it is not clear whether sphingolipids are implicated in the pathogenesis of hypertension-related cerebrovascular and renal damage. In this study, we evaluated the existence of possible abnormalities related to the sphingolipid metabolism in the brain and kidneys of two well validated spontaneously hypertensive rat strains, the stroke-prone (SHRSP) and the stroke-resistant (SHRSR) models, as compared to the normotensive Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rat strain. Our results showed a global alteration in the metabolism of sphingolipids in both cerebral and renal tissues of both hypertensive strains as compared to the normotensive rat. However, few defects, such as reduced expression of enzymes involved in the metabolism/catabolism of sphingosine-1-phosphate and in the de novo biosynthetic pathways, were exclusively detected in the SHRSP. Although further studies are necessary to fully understand the significance of these findings, they suggest that defects in specific lipid molecules and/or their related metabolic pathways may likely contribute to the pathogenesis of hypertensive target organ damage and may eventually serve as future therapeutic targets to reduce the vascular consequences of hypertension.The therapeutic landscape of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) is changing due to the emergence of new targeted therapies for the treatment of different molecular subtypes. Some biomarkers are described as potential molecular targets different from classic androgen receptors (AR). Approximately 20-25% of mCRPCs have somatic or germline alterations in DNA repair genes involved in homologous recombination. These subtypes are usually associated with more aggressive disease. Inhibitors of the enzyme poly ADP ribose polymerase (PARPi) have demonstrated an important benefit in the treatment of these subtypes of tumors. However, tumors that resistant to PARPi and wildtype **** tumors do not benefit from these therapies. Recent studies are exploring drug combinations with phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) or protein kinase B (AKT) inhibitors, as mechanisms to overcome resistance or to induce BRCAness and synthetic lethality. This article reviews various different novel strategies to improve outcomes in patients with prostate cancer.

  • Some parents engage in the potentially unhealthy and morally debateable parenting practice of giving prescription stimulant drugs to healthy children to boost their school and extracurricular performance. However, the parents' underlying reasoning remains unexamined. This web-based study (NRespondents = 1360) simultaneously investigates eight experimentally-varied situational (dis-)incentives (e.g., financial gains and drug properties) within a factorial vignette survey (NVignettes = 256), Machiavellianism as a measured socially relevant personality trait, and possible interaction effects. Results show that approximately 40% of the described situations (NEvaluations = 5440) provoked some willingness to medicate healthy children. Multilevel mixed-effect models revealed that this willingness was higher, for example, with increasing financial gains and weaker side effects. We conducted a survey experiment in a probability-based online panel (N = 4851) and used questions on income (in)equality that were adopted from the European Social Survey (ESS). The results reveal considerable differences between the scales under investigation. They show that end labeled unipolar and bipolar scales accomplish the criteria of equidistance best. Completely labeled bipolar scales, in contrast, only show a poor performance in terms of equidistance. Completely labeled unipolar scales are somewhere in between. Overall, our findings suggest that researchers should be careful when using survey data measured with (slightly) different scales because the results might not be comparable.A need exists to accurately estimate overdose risk and improve understanding of how to deliver treatments and interventions in people with opioid use disorder in a way that reduces such risk. We consider opportunities for predictive analytics and routinely collected administrative data to evaluate how overdose could be reduced among people with opioid use disorder. Specifically, we summarise global trends in opioid use and overdoses; describe the use of big data in research into opioid overdose; consider the potential for predictive modelling, including machine learning, for prevention and monitoring of opioid overdoses; and outline the challenges and risks relating to the use of big data and machine learning in reducing harms that are related to opioid use. Future research for improving the coverage and provision of existing interventions, treatments, and resources for opioid use disorder requires collaboration of multiple agencies.     The tumour stroma microenvironment plays an important part in disease progression and its composition can influence treatment response and outcomes. Histological evaluation of tumour stroma is limited by access to tissue, spatial heterogeneity, and temporal evolution. We aimed to develop a radiological signature for non-invasive assessment of tumour stroma and treatment outcomes.

    In this multicentre, retrospective study, we analysed CT images and outcome data of 2209 patients with resected gastric cancer from five independent cohorts recruited from two centres (Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University [Guangzhou, China] and Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center [Guangzhou, China]). Patients with histologically confirmed gastric cancer, at least 15 lymph nodes harvested, preoperative abdominal CT available, and complete clinicopathological and follow-up data were eligible for inclusion. Tumour tissue was collected for patients in the training cohort (321 patients), internal validation cohort one (246a to refine prognosis and inform treatment decisions of patients with gastric cancer.

    Some parents engage in the potentially unhealthy and morally debateable parenting practice of giving prescription stimulant drugs to healthy children to boost their school and extracurricular performance. We conducted a survey experiment in a probability-based online panel (N = 4851) and used questions on income (in)equality that were adopted from the European Social Survey (ESS). The results reveal considerable differences between the scales under investigation. They show that end labeled unipolar and bipolar scales accomplish the criteria of equidistance best. Completely labeled bipolar scales, in contrast, only show a poor performance in terms of equidistance. Completely labeled unipolar scales are somewhere in between. Pyrasplorine A contains unique spiral-type skeleton (composed of cyclopentenone ring with the pyrazino[1,2-a] pyrimidine core) which is unprecedented in pyrazinopyrimidine-type alkaloids. The deg-pyrasplorine B could be spontaneously converted from pyrasplorine B in mild conditions. Their structures including absolute configurations were elucidated based on NMR spectroscopic analysis, computational calculations and Marfey's method.     Postural strategies of the trunk and the lower limbs are linked to upper limb motor activities. The objective was to analyze the postural organization at the lower limbs as well as the inter-limb coordination during isometric maximal bilateral pushing of upper limbs.

    Fifteen individuals after stroke and 17 healthy participants were assessed with an instrumented exerciser paired with an instrumented sitting surface while they executed isometric bilateral pushes with the upper limbs. The anteroposterior, vertical and mediolateral forces were recorded at the handles, the thighs and the feet. Force values at maximal bilateral pushing efforts at each segment and inter-limb coordination between sides were compared.

    During the isometric pushes, the paretic maximal forces at the handles for stroke participants were lower than the nonparetic side and lower than both sides of the control participants (p<0.036). The control and stroke participants had moderate to good coordination for the anteroposterior forces (hands and thighs). While they used similar postural strategies to the controls except for a decreased weight on the paretic foot, vertical forces were less coordinated at the handles and feet in the stroke group (p<0.050). The inter-trial variability was also higher in the stroke group.

    Around half of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are treated through reconstruction, but the literature lacks mechanical investigation of reconstructions in a dynamic athletic task and rupture environment. The current objective was to ascertain the feasibility of investigating ACL reconstructions in a rupture environment during simulated landing tasks in a validated mechanical impact simulator.

    Four cadaveric lower extremities were subjected to simulated landing in a mechanical impact simulator. External joint loads that mimicked magnitudes recorded from an in vivo population were applied to each joint in a stepwise manner. Simulations were repeated until ACL failure was achieved. Repeated measures design was used to test each specimen in the native ACL and hamstrings, quadriceps, and patellar tendon reconstructed states.

    ACL injuries were generated in 100% of specimens. Graft substance damage occurred in 58% of ACLRs, and in 75% of bone tendon bone grafts. Bone tendon bone and quadriceps grafts survived greater simulated loading than hamstrings grafts, but smaller simulated loading than the native ACL.

Current strategies aim at reducing crop losses rely mostly on disease-resistance breeding and chemical pesticides, which can be frequently overcome by the rapid adaptive evolution of pathogens. Transgenic crops with intrinsic disease resistance offer a promising alternative and continue to be developed. Here, we explored Phytophthora-derived PI3P (phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate) as a novel control target, using proteins that bind this lipid to direct secreted anti-microbial peptides and proteins (AMPs) to the surface of Phytophthora pathogens. In transgenic Nicotiana benthamiana, soybean, and potato plants, significantly enhanced resistance to different pathogen isolates was achieved by expression of two AMPs (GAFP1 or GAFP3 from the Chinese medicinal herb Gastrodia elata) fused with a PI3P-specific binding domain (FYVE). Using the soybean pathogen P. sojae as an example, we demonstrated that the FYVE domain could boost the activities of GAFPs in multiple independent assays, including those performed in vitro, in vivo, and in planta. Mutational analysis of P. sojae PI3K1 and PI3K2 genes of this pathogen confirmed that the enhanced activities of the targeted GAFPs were correlated with PI3P levels in the pathogen. Collectively, our study provides a new strategy that could be used to confer resistance not only to Phytophthora pathogens in many plants but also potentially to many other kinds of plant pathogens with unique targets.
    Staphylococcus aureus is the most common causative organism of osteomyelitis (OM). Nevertheless, the molecular epidemiology of S. aureus causing OM remains ill-defined. This study aimed to address the global epidemiology of S. aureus clones from OM patients.

    Literature databases were searched for studies reporting the molecular typing of S. aureus involved in OM published between 1 January 2000 and 29 July 2020. Data from 32 articles that fulfilled the inclusion criteria were analysed for year of publication, country of patients, methicillin susceptibility and genotypic characteristics of S. aureus isolates.

    Pandemic clones CC5, CC8, CC22, CC30 and CC45 were the most common in OM. The distribution of clones differed greatly among studies owing to the local epidemiology of S. aureus and the MSSA heterogeneity. PVL-positive MRSA clones belonging to ST80/CC80 and ST8/CC8/USA300 were the most common among paediatric patients in Europe and the USA; greater variability was observed in the adult population. In Europe, MRSA belonged to PVL-negative CC5, CC8 and CC22 indicating a nosocomial origin of infections; in Asia PVL-positive ST59/CC59 MRSA was the most frequent. PVL-positive clones were often detected in haematogenous OM in children and adults. Although MSSA were polyclonal, PVL-negative ST398/CC398 MSSA was the most prevalent clone in diabetic foot OM.

    All major S. aureus clones circulating both in hospital and community settings appear to be capable of causing OM. Future studies reporting molecular typing and genomic data will provide more insights into the epidemiology and pathobiology of S. aureus clones causing OM.

In transgenic Nicotiana benthamiana, soybean, and potato plants, significantly enhanced resistance to different pathogen isolates was achieved by expression of two AMPs (GAFP1 or GAFP3 from the Chinese medicinal herb Gastrodia elata) fused with a PI3P-specific binding domain (FYVE). Using the soybean pathogen P. sojae as an example, we demonstrated that the FYVE domain could boost the activities of GAFPs in multiple independent assays, including those performed in vitro, in vivo, and in planta. Mutational analysis of P. sojae PI3K1 and PI3K2 genes of this pathogen confirmed that the enhanced activities of the targeted GAFPs were correlated with PI3P levels in the pathogen. Collectively, our study provides a new strategy that could be used to confer resistance not only to Phytophthora pathogens in many plants but also potentially to many other kinds of plant pathogens with unique targets. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common causative organism of osteomyelitis (OM). Nevertheless, the molecular epidemiology of S. aureus causing OM remains ill-defined. This study aimed to address the global epidemiology of S. aureus clones from OM patients. Literature databases were searched for studies reporting the molecular typing of S. aureus involved in OM published between 1 January 2000 and 29 July 2020. Data from 32 articles that fulfilled the inclusion criteria were analysed for year of publication, country of patients, methicillin susceptibility and genotypic characteristics of S. aureus isolates. Pandemic clones CC5, CC8, CC22, CC30 and CC45 were the most common in OM. The distribution of clones differed greatly among studies owing to the local epidemiology of S. aureus and the MSSA heterogeneity. PVL-positive MRSA clones belonging to ST80/CC80 and ST8/CC8/USA300 were the most common among paediatric patients in Europe and the USA; greater variability was observed in the adult population. In Europe, MRSA belonged to PVL-negative CC5, CC8 and CC22 indicating a nosocomial origin of infections; in Asia PVL-positive ST59/CC59 MRSA was the most frequent. PVL-positive clones were often detected in haematogenous OM in children and adults. Although MSSA were polyclonal, PVL-negative ST398/CC398 MSSA was the most prevalent clone in diabetic foot OM. All major S. aureus clones circulating both in hospital and community settings appear to be capable of causing OM. The aim of this study was to understand the genomic characteristics, antimicrobial resistance profile and virulence determinants of B. contaminans strain SBC01 isolated from the eye of a patient hit by a cow's tail. A hybrid sequence of isolate SBC01 was generated using Illumina HiSeq and Oxford Nanopore Technology platforms. Unicycler was used to assemble the hybrid genomic sequence. In a discovery set, patients were divided into three groups according to the peritoneal equilibration test (PET) results high (H), high average (HA), low average and low (LA&L) groups. A total of 1051 identified proteins were screened by Nano HPLC-MS/MS. The top two proteins among different peritoneal transport characteristics were Orosomucoid 2 (ORM2) and C-reactive protein (CRP). In a validation set, CRP was significantly elevated in H group than LA&L group, consistent with proteomic analysis. Serum ORM2 was enhanced in LA&L group compared with H and HA group. The expression of ORM2 in peritoneum was also enriched in LA&L group. At last, supplying exogenous ORM could reduce peritoneal proteins loss, without causing a pro-inflammatory response in mice.

Among various modalities of treatment, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) has shown promising results in ulcer healing by providing necessary growth factors. Unna's paste dressing has also proven to enhance wound healing. Aim The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of autologous PRF versus Unna's paste dressing in chronic venous leg ulcer patients and to compare the mean reduction in ulcer area at the end of 4 weeks. Materials and Methods Twenty patients with chronic venous leg ulcers were randomly divided into two groups. Group 1 Patients received PRF dressing which was repeated every week for 4 weeks. Group 2 Patients received Unna's paste dressing once a week for 4 weeks. The ulcer size was assessed with the help of photographs, and ulcer area was measured. Results The mean reduction in the area of the ulcer size in the PRF group was 86.03% and in the Unna's paste group was 71.97%, which was not statistically significant with a P value of 0.223. Conclusion We conclude that though there was no statistical significance between the groups, PRF showed a significant reduction in ulcer size. Effectiveness parameters were the proportion of patients achieving psoriasis area and severity index (PASI) 50, 75, 90, and 100 response at week 16 and 24. Safety was measured as the proportion of patients reporting ≥1 adverse event (AE) during the study period. Results Data of a total of 70 patients were included in our study. At week 16, 76.92%, 41.53%, 15.38%, and 6.15% patients achieved PASI 50, 75, 90, and 100, respectively. At week 24, 81.53%, 58.46%, 29.23%, and 10.76% patients achieved PASI 50, 75, 90, and 100, respectively. Mean percentage reduction in PASI was 67% at week 24 and DLQI score was reduced significantly to 3.4 from mean baseline DLQI score of 10.8 (P less then 0.001). 40% of patients reported ≥1 AE during the study period. 5 out of 70 patients discontinued apremilast due to AE. Nausea was most common AE reported by 21.4% patients followed by diarrhea (18.57%), headache (17.4%), vomiting (8%), weight loss (7.69%), myalgia (6.15%), and gastritis (6.15%). Conclusion The results of this study support the long-term use of apremilast monotherapy as an efficacious and safe treatment option for the management of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. Aims and Objectives To estimate the prevalence of different fungal species associated with dermatophytosis and to find out any possible association of the type of fungus with different clinical parameters of the disease. Materials and Methods This was a cross-sectional study among 311 clinically diagnosed dermatophytosis cases from a tertiary care center in eastern India. Potassium hydroxide (KOH) mount and fungal culture were done from samples of skin, hair, and nails, and various clinical parameters were analyzed. Results There was a male preponderance among cases and maximum patients belonged to third decade of life. Most common presentation was tinea corporis et cruris (39.5%). Family history was positive in 48.8% of cases. Trichophyton mentagrophytes was the most common fungal species (79.91%) grown in culture followed by Trichophyton rubrum (13.53%). Majority of patients had a mild body surface area involvement. We did not find statistically significant association of any clinical parameters with type of organism isolated. Conclusion Trichophyton mentagrophytes was the most common isolated fungal species. This is in contrast to several studies where T.rubrum was the frequently found organism. There was no significant association of any clinical parameters like body surface area, number of sites, or duration of diseasewith fungal species isolated in culture. Although a few risk factors have been identified, the exact pathogenesis remains elusive. Many treatment modalities have been tried, but none have been completely successful. Aim To compare safety and efficacy of microneedling with Tranexamic acid versus microneedling with Vitamin C in the treatment of melasma. Materials and Methods It was a split face, comparative study conducted on 30 female melasma patients. After obtaining informed consent, microneedling with Tranexamic acid was done on left side and microneedling with Vitamin C was done on right side of face. The improvement was evaluated on the basis of clinical photographs, MASI, Physician Global Assessment (PGA) and Patient Global Assessment (PtGA) at each visit (0, 4 and 8 weeks). Z test was used to test the significant difference in the means of the 2 groups at 4 weeks and at 8 weeks. Results At the end of 8 weeks, MASI, PGA and PtGA showed improvement with both tranexamic acid and vitamin C. However the improvement was more with tranexamic acid than with vitamin C, although not statistically significant. Conclusion Both TXA and Vitamin C are effective and safe treatments for melasma. The aim of this study is to assess the dermoscopic features in nails of psoriasis as well as to compare the dermoscopic with the clinical findings. This study has also assessed the correlation between disease duration and the severity of skin and nail involvement. Materials and Methods A total of 50 patients with psoriatic nail changes were recruited in the study. The psoriasis area severity index (PASI) was used to assess the severity of the disease. The nail psoriasis severity index (NAPSI) was used to determine the severity of nail involvement. The patient's nails were examined both clinically and dermoscopically. Results Pitting was the commonest feature (84%) noted both clinically and dermoscopically.

  • Sleep disturbance is frequently observed inpatients on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD), and this population usually presents imbalances in trace elements. We investigated the association between blood trace element levels and sleep quality inpatients on MHD.

However, the effects of AA on human malignancies remain unknown. Herein, efficient inhibition of AA on NSCLC-induced angiogenesis was observed with tube formation and xenograft models. Subsequent results indicated that AA downregulated the expression of VEGF-A, a key angiogenesis-inducing cytokine. In addition, AA downregulated STAT3, a transcriptional inducer of VEGF-A and increased non-coding RNA miR-506 expression, respectively. Furthermore, miR-506 directly modulated STAT3 relying on base pairing the 3'-UTR in STAT3 mRNA. We also found that abrogation of miR-506 abolished the inhibitory effect of AA on VEGF-A expression and NSCLC-induced angiogenesis. Finally, xenografts experiments also showed that oral administration of AA could significantly attenuate NSCLC angiogenesis, indicated by decreased micro-vessel density (MVD) and the MVD marker CD31 expression in xenografts tissues. Correspondingly, AA treatment also downregulated VEGF-A, STAT3 and increased miR-506 expression in xenografts samples, respectively. Taken together, these results suggested that AA could suppress NSCLC-induced angiogenesis via miR-506/STAT3/VEGF-A axis. .The Pearl River Delta, where Aedes albopictus (Ae. albopictus) is the only vector for dengue transmission, has exhibited one of the highest dengue burdens in southern China in recent decades. However, whether dengue virus (DENV) can overwinter in Ae. albopictus in the Pearl River Delta has not been determined to date. In this study, 300 field-derived Ae. albopictus mosquitoes from Guangzhou that were infected with the predominant endemic DENV-1 strain were investigated under simulated urban balcony environment from October 16, 2016, to June 16, 2017. The vertical transmission of DENV in the infected overwintering Ae. albopictus was analyzed. The DENV infected overwintering mosquitoes were evaluated for viral load at nine-time points using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. The vector competence of the infected overwintering Ae. albopictus was also investigated by using suckling ****. Adult mosquitoes and larvae were found during the observation period. The vertical transmission of DENV-1 was documented. The DENV-1-positive rates between overwintering males and females had no difference. The proportion of DENV-1-positive overwintering mosquitoes decreased over time and had no difference beyond three months after the experiment. Overwintering mosquitoes can spread DENV-1 to hosts. No engorged mosquitoes at an ambient temperature below 15 °C were observed. The ratio of engorged mosquitoes was positively correlated with the ambient temperature ranging from 15 to 30 °C. Our results demonstrated that DENV can overwinter in Ae. albopictus in the Pearl River Delta, Ae. albopictus is the competent vector for DENV, and maintain autochthonous dengue outbreaks in the Pearl River Delta through vertical transmission.Wolfram syndrome (WS) is mainly caused by mutations in the WFS1 gene and characterized by diabetes mellitus, optic atrophy, hearing loss, and central diabetes insipidus (CDI). WFS1 is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident transmembrane protein, and Wfs1 knockout (Wfs1-/-) ****, which have been used as a mouse model for WS, reportedly manifested impairment of glucose tolerance due to pancreatic β-cell loss. In the present study, we examined water balance, arginine vasopressin (AVP) secretion, and ER stress in AVP neurons of the hypothalamus in Wfs1-/- ****. There were no differences in urine volumes between Wfs1-/- and wild-type **** with free access to water. Conversely, when **** were subjected to intermittent water deprivation (WD) for 20 weeks, during which water was unavailable for 2 days a week, urine volumes were larger in Wfs1-/- ****, accompanied by lower urine AVP concentrations and urine osmolality, compared to wild-type ****. The mRNA expression of immunoglobulin heavy chain binding protein, a marker of ER stress, was significantly increased in the supraoptic nucleus and paraventricular nuclei in Wfs1-/- **** compared to wild-type **** after WD. Our results thus showed that Wfs1 knockout leads to a decrease in AVP secretion during dehydration, which could explain in part the mechanisms by which Wfs1 mutations cause CDI in humans.
    The death rate for female breast cancer increases progressively with age, but organizations differ in their mammography screening recommendations for older women. To understand current patterns of screening mammography use and breast cancer diagnoses among older women, we examined recent national data on mammography screening use and breast cancer incidence and stage at diagnosis among women aged ≥ 65years.

    We examined breast cancer incidence using the 2016 United States Cancer Statistics dataset and analyzed screening mammography use among women aged ≥ 65years using the 2018 National Health Interview Survey.

    Women aged 70-74years had the highest breast cancer incidence rate (458.3 cases per 100,000 women), and women aged ≥ 85years had the lowest rate (295.2 per 100,000 women). However, whether dengue virus (DENV) can overwinter in Ae. albopictus in the Pearl River Delta has not been determined to date. In this study, 300 field-derived Ae. albopictus mosquitoes from Guangzhou that were infected with the predominant endemic DENV-1 strain were investigated under simulated urban balcony environment from October 16, 2016, to June 16, 2017. The vertical transmission of DENV in the infected overwintering Ae. albopictus was analyzed. The DENV infected overwintering mosquitoes were evaluated for viral load at nine-time points using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR. The vector competence of the infected overwintering Ae. albopictus was also investigated by using suckling mice. Adult mosquitoes and larvae were found during the observation period. The vertical transmission of DENV-1 was documented. The DENV-1-positive rates between overwintering males and females had no difference. The proportion of DENV-1-positive overwintering mosquitoes decreased over time and had no difference beyond three months after the experiment. Overwintering mosquitoes can spread DENV-1 to hosts. No engorged mosquitoes at an ambient temperature below 15 °C were observed. The ratio of engorged mosquitoes was positively correlated with the ambient temperature ranging from 15 to 30 °C. Our results demonstrated that DENV can overwinter in Ae. albopictus in the Pearl River Delta, Ae. albopictus is the competent vector for DENV, and maintain autochthonous dengue outbreaks in the Pearl River Delta through vertical transmission.Wolfram syndrome (WS) is mainly caused by mutations in the WFS1 gene and characterized by diabetes mellitus, optic atrophy, hearing loss, and central diabetes insipidus (CDI). WFS1 is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident transmembrane protein, and Wfs1 knockout (Wfs1-/-) mice, which have been used as a mouse model for WS, reportedly manifested impairment of glucose tolerance due to pancreatic β-cell loss. In the present study, we examined water balance, arginine vasopressin (AVP) secretion, and ER stress in AVP neurons of the hypothalamus in Wfs1-/- mice. There were no differences in urine volumes between Wfs1-/- and wild-type mice with free access to water. Conversely, when mice were subjected to intermittent water deprivation (WD) for 20 weeks, during which water was unavailable for 2 days a week, urine volumes were larger in Wfs1-/- mice, accompanied by lower urine AVP concentrations and urine osmolality, compared to wild-type mice. The mRNA expression of immunoglobulin heavy chain binding protein, a marker of ER stress, was significantly increased in the supraoptic nucleus and paraventricular nuclei in Wfs1-/- mice compared to wild-type mice after WD. To understand current patterns of screening mammography use and breast cancer diagnoses among older women, we examined recent national data on mammography screening use and breast cancer incidence and stage at diagnosis among women aged ≥ 65years. We examined breast cancer incidence using the 2016 United States Cancer Statistics dataset and analyzed screening mammography use among women aged ≥ 65years using the 2018 National Health Interview Survey. Women aged 70-74years had the highest breast cancer incidence rate (458.3 cases per 100,000 women), and women aged ≥ 85years had the lowest rate (295.2 per 100,000 women).   • This study estimates the need for financing and water to achieve self-sufficiency and food security in the poultry meat industry in Saudi Arabia. This study was based on secondary data and economic and statistical equations. The indexes related to the food security applied and the need for financing and water for poultry meat were calculated. According to the study, poultry meat's strategic stock is estimated at 658.1 thousand tons, which is enough for local consumption for 152.7 days. Meanwhile, the food security factor for poultry meat is estimated at 0.42 for the end of the period 1995-2018. The required investments to achieve full self-sufficiency and food security for poultry meat are estimated at 218.19 million Riyals and 671.21 million Riyals, respectively. Achieving self-sufficiency and food security in poultry meat also requires 6.29 billion m3 water worth 3.03 billion Riyals. This study recommends that industry leaders increase their investment in the private sector to achieve self-sufficiency and food security for poultry meat. This suggestion is consistent with the national transformation program and the Kingdom's 2030 vision, in addition to population growth, through the Agricultural Development Fund, which should increase the loans and investments needed to create new projects or expand the existing projects' production capacity.Public policies have required public agencies to adopt sustainable public procurement. It is necessary to understand the importance of the requirement for sustainable purchases to happen. Thus, this study aims to examine the main difficulties in adopting SPP at a public university in Brazil. To that end, research on the topic was carried out based on critical theory using qualitative methodology through a case study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with three groups selected intentionally requesters, purchasers and suppliers. Aspects related to the understanding of sustainability, SPP and the relationship between ethics and sustainability were analysed. The study revealed that the interviewees understand that ethics is directly related to the practice of sustainability, but it is a difficult issue because of its historical roots and changes in paradigms. Due to the complexity of the SPP theme, one of the main implementation difficulties mentioned by the interviewees was the lack of training. For suppliers, the understanding of sustainability was already consolidated, but it required agreement between being sustainable and economically viable for the company. Thus, this work sought to expose how those involved in SPP understood, refuted or validated sustainability issues in government procurement. Previous studies revealed the difficulties and conceptions of buyers, but we did not find research that investigated requesters and suppliers. It is hoped that this information will serve actions in favour of sustainable production and consumption and as a basis for other studies on sustainable public procurement.The present study aims to highlight the contrast relationship between COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease-2019) infections and air pollutants for the Indian region. Now, to understand the relationship between air pollutant concentration, meteorological factor, and COVID-19 cases, the nonparametric Spearman's and Kendall's rank correlation were used. The COVID-19 shows a favourable temperature (0.55-0.79) and humidity (0.14-0.52) over the Indian region. Outcomes of the proposed work had the aim of supporting national and state governance for healthcare policymakers.As a response to the urgent call for recovery actions against the COVID-19 crisis, this research aims to identify action priority areas post COVID-19 toward achieving the targets of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development launched by the United Nations (UN). This paper applies a mixed-method approach to map the post-COVID-19 SDGs targets on a fuzzy action priority surface at the country level in Iran, as a developing country, by taking the following four main steps (1) using a modified Delphi method to make a list of the SDGs targets influenced by COVID-19; (2) using the best-worst method, as a multi-criteria decision-making tool, to weight the COVID-19 effects on the SDGs targets achievement; also (3) to weight the impact of the SDGs targets on the sustainable development implementation; and finally (4) designing a fuzzy inference system to calculate the action priority scores of the SDGs targets. As a result, reduction of poor people proportion by half (SDG 1.2), development-oriented policies for supporting creativity and job creation (SDG 8.3), end the pandemics and other epidemics (SDG 3.3), reduction of deaths and economic loss caused by disasters (SDG 11.5), and financial support for small-scale enterprises (SDG 9.3) were identified as the highest priorities for action, respectively, in the recovery agenda for sustainable development post COVID-19. The provided fuzzy action priority surface supports the UN's SDGs achievement and implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Iran. It also serves as a guideline to help the government, stakeholders, and policy-makers better analyze the long-term effects of the pandemic on the SDGs and their associated targets and mitigate its adverse economic, social, and environmental consequences.

This paper applies a mixed-method approach to map the post-COVID-19 SDGs targets on a fuzzy action priority surface at the country level in Iran, as a developing country, by taking the following four main steps (1) using a modified Delphi method to make a list of the SDGs targets influenced by COVID-19; (2) using the best-worst method, as a multi-criteria decision-making tool, to weight the COVID-19 effects on the SDGs targets achievement; also (3) to weight the impact of the SDGs targets on the sustainable development implementation; and finally (4) designing a fuzzy inference system to calculate the action priority scores of the SDGs targets. As a result, reduction of poor people proportion by half (SDG 1.2), development-oriented policies for supporting creativity and job creation (SDG 8.3), end the pandemics and other epidemics (SDG 3.3), reduction of deaths and economic loss caused by disasters (SDG 11.5), and financial support for small-scale enterprises (SDG 9.3) were identified as the highest priorities for action, respectively, in the recovery agenda for sustainable development post COVID-19. The provided fuzzy action priority surface supports the UN's SDGs achievement and implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Iran. It also serves as a guideline to help the government, stakeholders, and policy-makers better analyze the long-term effects of the pandemic on the SDGs and their associated targets and mitigate its adverse economic, social, and environmental consequences.
