In rural areas of Ethiopia, 57% of births occur at home without the assistance of skilled birth attendants, geographical inaccessibility being one of the main factors that hinder skilled birth attendance. Establishment of maternity waiting homes (MWH) is part of a strategy to improve access to skilled care by bringing pregnant women physically close to health facilities. This study assessed barriers to MWHs in Arba Minch Zuria District, Southern Ethiopia.
A community-based cross-sectional study was undertaken from February 01 to 28, 2019. Study participants were selected by computer-generated random numbers from a list of women who gave birth from 2017 to 2018 in Arba Minch Health and Demographic Surveillance System site. Data were collected using a pre-tested and interviewer-administered questionnaire. Stata software version-15 was used for data management and analysis, and variables with p-values ≤ 0.2 in bivariate analysis were considered for multivariable logistic regression analysis. Level of statistmen living far away and upgrading existing MWHs are highly recommended.
A low proportion of women has ever used MWHs in the study area. To increase MWH utilization, promoting birth preparedness practices, incorporating MWH as part of a personalized birth plan, improving access to health institutions for women living far away and upgrading existing MWHs are highly recommended.

In present study, we established a mechanical stretching stress-stimulated nucleus pulposus (NP) cell model. We knocked down NF-κB p65 by siRNA transfection to inhibit NF-κB and evaluated the effects of NF-κB inhibition on intervertebral disk degeneration. We applied the mechanical stretching stress on NP cells and inhibited NF-κB by siRNA, then evaluated the expression of inflammatory cytokines, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP), aggrecan, collagen II, and monitored viability and apoptosis of NP cells.
Mechanical stretching stress induced the expression of TNF-α, IL-1β, NF-κB, MMP-3 and MMP-13, while inhibited the production of aggrecan and collagen II in NP cells. Mechanical stretching stress decreased the cell viability and induced apoptosis in NP cells. Inhibition of NF-κB by siRNA suppressed the production of TNF-α, IL-1β, NF-κB, MMP-3 and MMP-13, while upregulated the expression of aggrecan and collagen II in NP cells.

Currently the majority of non-culturable microbes in sea water are yet to be discovered, Nanopore offers a solution to overcome the challenging tasks to identify the genomes and complex composition of oceanic microbiomes. In this study we evaluate the utility of Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) sequencing to characterize microbial diversity in seawater from multiple locations. We compared the microbial species diversity of retrieved environmental samples from two different locations and time points.
With only three ONT flow cells we were able to identify thousands of organisms, including bacteriophages, from which a large part at species level. It was possible to assemble genomes from environmental samples with Flye. In several cases this resulted in > 1 Mbp contigs and in the particular case of a Thioglobus singularis species it even produced a near complete genome. k-mer analysis reveals that a large part of the data represents species of which close relatives have not yet been deposited to the database. These results show that our approach is suitable for scalable genomic investigations such as monitoring oceanic biodiversity and provides a new platform for education in biodiversity.

When the depths were the same, emotion intensity became stronger with the decrease in objectivity. To improve the low-resolution characteristics of the existing lensless shadow imaging systems and to meet the high-resolution needs of point-of-care testing, here, we propose a high-precision on-chip microscope based on in-line holographic technology. We demonstrated the ability of the iterative phase recovery algorithm to recover sample information and evaluated it with image quality evaluation algorithms with or without reference. The results showed that the resolution of the holographic image after iterative phase recovery is 1.41 times that of traditional shadow imaging. Moreover, we used machine learning tools to identify and count the mixed samples of mouse ascites tumor cells and micro-particles that were iterative phase recovered. The results showed that the on-chip cell counter had high-precision counting characteristics as compared with manual counting of the microscope reference image. The complex nature of this disease, coupled with the phenomenon of metabolically healthy obesity, inspired us to perform data-centric, hypothesis-generating pilot research, aimed to find correlations between parameters of classic clinical blood tests and proteomic profiles of 104 lean and obese subjects. As the result, we assembled patterns of proteins, which presence or absence allows predicting the weight of the patient fairly well. We believe that such proteomic patterns with high prediction power should facilitate the translation of potential candidates into biomarkers of clinical use for early-stage stratification of obesity therapy.With the increase in aging in China, the health problems of older adults, especially mental health problems, have become a concern for the whole society. This article selected urban and rural older adults and analyzed the impact of social support on their mental health using a binary logistic model. It was found that under the current urban-rural dichotomy, the effects of social support on the mental health of urban and rural older adults are significantly different. In social support, first, the fairness and satisfaction with the social security system only had a significant effect on the mental health of urban older adults and had no significant effect on the rural older adults. Second, the closeness of contact with grassroots community workers had a significant impact on the mental health of older adults in urban and rural areas. From informal social support, the mental health of rural older adults was mainly influenced by the support of their children, reflecting the influence of the traditional culture of "filial piety". Furthermore, the mental health of urban older adults was mainly influenced by neighborhood support, reflecting the importance of "close neighbors are better than distant relatives". Based on the results of the empirical study, this article suggests that to promote the mental health of older adults, we should start by strengthening the formal social support system, establishing high-quality community service facilities, and emphasizing the role of informal social support.

Young adults who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual and other diverse genders and sexualities (LGBTQIA+) are more likely to experience mental health difficulties and are at significantly elevated risk of substance abuse, self-harm and suicide, relative to their heterosexual, endosex and cisgender peers. There is a need for effective mental health interventions for LGBTQIA+ young adults. Mindful Self-Compassion training is a promising approach; among LGBTQIA+ individuals, self-compassion accounts for more variation in mental health outcomes than bullying, victimization, and adverse childhood experiences combined. Furthermore, LGBTQIA+ individuals with high self-compassion report more positive identity and happiness, less self-stigma, and lower suicidality than those with low self-compassion.

Our objective was to determine whether the addition of a single dose of propranolol to induce labor in nulliparous women would decrease total time to vaginal delivery.
This study was a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of nulliparous patients undergoing term induction of labor with a singleton, nonanomalous gestation. Subjects were randomized to 2 mg of intravenous propranolol hydrochloride or an identical-appearing saline placebo, administered 30 minutes after starting the induction of labor. Investigators, labor floor staff, and patients were blinded to the study drug allocation. The primary outcome was time to vaginal delivery. Secondary outcomes included mode of delivery, duration of the phases of labor, time to full dilati ratio, 0.70; 95% confidence interval, 0.49-1.00; P=.047). Rates of postpartum hemorrhage (12.4% vs 21.8%; P=.05) and transfusion (0% vs 4.2%; P=.03) were also lower in the treated group. There was no significant difference in neonatal outcomes or composite morbidity (risk ratio, 0.74; 95% confidence interval, 0.44-1.22).

No large dataset-derived standard has been established for normal or pathologic human cerebral ventricular and cranial vault volumes. Automated volumetric measurements could be used to assist in diagnosis and follow-up of hydrocephalus or craniofacial syndromes. In this work, we use deep learning algorithms to measure ventricular and cranial vault volumes in a large dataset of head computed tomography (CT) scans.
A cross-sectional dataset comprising 13,851 CT scans was used to deploy U-Net deep learning networks to segment and quantify lateral cerebral ventricular and cranial vault volumes in relation to age and sex. The models were validated against manual segmentations. Corresponding radiologic reports were annotated using a rule-based natural language processing framework to identify normal scans, cerebral atrophy, or hydrocephalus.

To elucidate the molecular mechanism of β-arrestin-mediated signaling, the structural features of β-arrestins were investigated using X-ray crystallography and cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM). However, the intrinsic conformational flexibility of β-arrestins hampers the elucidation of structural interactions between β-arrestins and their binding partners using conventional structure determination tools. Therefore, structural information obtained using complementary structure analysis techniques would be necessary in combination with X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM data. Our objective was to determine whether the addition of a single dose of propranolol to induce labor in nulliparous women would decrease total time to vaginal delivery. This study was a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of nulliparous patients undergoing term induction of labor with a singleton, nonanomalous gestation. Subjects were randomized to 2 mg of intravenous propranolol hydrochloride or an identical-appearing saline placebo, administered 30 minutes after starting the induction of labor. Investigators, labor floor staff, and patients were blinded to the study drug allocation. The primary outcome was time to vaginal delivery. Secondary outcomes included mode of delivery, duration of the phases of labor, time to full dilati ratio, 0.70; 95% confidence interval, 0.49-1.00; P=.047). Automated volumetric measurements could be used to assist in diagnosis and follow-up of hydrocephalus or craniofacial syndromes. In this work, we use deep learning algorithms to measure ventricular and cranial vault volumes in a large dataset of head computed tomography (CT) scans. A cross-sectional dataset comprising 13,851 CT scans was used to deploy U-Net deep learning networks to segment and quantify lateral cerebral ventricular and cranial vault volumes in relation to age and sex. The models were validated against manual segmentations. Corresponding radiologic reports were annotated using a rule-based natural language processing framework to identify normal scans, cerebral atrophy, or hydrocephalus. U-Net models had high fidelity to manual segmentations for lateral ventricular and cranial vault volume measurements (Dice index, 0.878 and 0.983, respectively). The study of cultural evolution now includes multiple theoretical frameworks. Despite common influence from Darwinian evolutionary theory, there is considerable diversity. Thus, we recognize those most influenced by the tenets of the Modern Synthesis (evolutionary archaeology, cultural transmission theory, and human behavioral ecology) and those most aligned more closely with concepts emerging in the Extended Evolutionary Synthesis (cultural macroevolution and evolutionary cognitive archaeology). There has been substantial debate between adherents of these schools of thought as to their appropriateness and priority for addressing the fundamentals of cultural evolution. I argue that theoretical diversity is necessary to address research questions arising from a complex archaeological record. Concepts associated with the Extended Evolutionary Synthesis may offer unique insights into the cultural evolutionary process.
Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most common childhood motor disability. We surveyed physicians in the United States and Canada interested in CP on the basis of membership in the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine or the Child Neurology Society Neonatal Neurology, Movement Disorders, or Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Special Interest Groups. The survey included the 2007 consensus definition of CP and 4 hypothetical case scenarios.
Of 695 contacted physicians, 330 (47%) completed the survey. Two scenarios yielded consensus (1) nonprogressive spastic diplegia after premature birth withhave suggested ways to reduce diagnostic variability, including clarification of the consensus definition.
To determine whether studying patients with strictly unilateral relapsing primary angiitis of the CNS (UR-PACNS) can support hemispheric differences in immune response mechanisms, we reviewed characteristics of a group of such patients.
We surveiled our institution for patients with UR-PACNS, after characterizing one such case. We defined UR-PACNS as PACNS with clinical and radiographic relapses strictly recurring in 1 brain hemisphere, with or without hemiatrophy. PACNS must have been biopsy proven. Three total cases were identified at our institution. A literature search for similar reports yielded 4 additional cases. The combined 7 cases were reviewed for demographic, clinical, imaging, and pathologic trends.
The median age at time of clinical onset among the 7 cases was 26 years (range 10-49 years); 5 were male (71%). All 7 patients presented with seizures. The mean follow-up duration was 7.5 years (4-14.1 years). The annualized relapse rate ranged between 0.2 and 1. UR-PACNS involved the left cerebn modulation of the systemic immune functions, rather than a structural antigenic difference, between the right and left brain may explain this phenomenon, but this is speculative.
Combining our 3 cases with others reported in the literature allows better clinical understanding about this rare and extremely puzzling disease entity. We hypothesize that a functional difference in immune responses, caused by such discrepancies as basal levels of cytokines, asymmetric distribution of microglia, and differences in modulation of the systemic immune functions, rather than a structural antigenic difference, between the right and left brain may explain this phenomenon, but this is speculative.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the organisation of medical care.
This is the first prospective observational study on patient-reported outcomes, quality of life (HRQOL) and satisfaction in patients with cancer with their care management in a day hospital during the period of May-June 2020. The Generalised Anxiety Disorder Screener and 12-Item Short-Form Health Survey were used.
The survey was completed by 189 of 267 patients. They were generally aged 61 to 70 years and women and presented with lung, breast, or colorectal cancer. Patients had low anxiety scores (mean 3.2±4.5), with only 11.1% showing anxiety. Risk factors of anxiety included female gender (p=0.03) and lifestyle (residence, family environment) (p=0.01). The patient's physical health was stable, whereas mental health had deteriorated (p<0.0001). Risk factors of altered HRQOL included age and lifestyle. Patients greatly appreciated all the facilities of the day hospital and its organisation.
This study shows a preserved HRQOL and low anxiety of patients with cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

To investigate the efficacy (prognosis, coagulation/inflammation biomarkers) and safety (bleeding events) of different anticoagulation dosages in COVID-19 inpatients.
COVID-19 inpatients (Athens, Greece) were included. The "Enhanced dose THRomboprophylaxis in Admissions (ETHRA)" protocol was applied in certain Departments, suggesting the use of intermediate anticoagulation dosage. The primary endpoint was a composite of intubation/venous thromboembolism/death. Inflammation/coagulation parameters were assessed.
Among 127 admissions, 95 fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Twenty-one events (4 deaths, 17 intubations) were observed. Regression analysis demonstrated significant reduction of events with intermediate or therapeutic dosage [HR=0.16 (95%CI=0.05-0.52) p=0.002; HR=0.17 (0.04-0.71) p=0.015, respectively]. D-Dimer values were higher in those who met the composite endpoint. Intermediate dosage treatment was associated with decreased values of ferritin. Three patients (3%) had minor hemorrhagic complications.

Chilling injury (CI) is a postharvest disorder occurring in the fruit of cold-sensitive Citrus species during storage at low temperatures. This study investigated the involvement of carotenoids and vitamin C, two major antioxidants of citrus peel, and the antioxidant capacity in the CI susceptibility of mandarin fruit. To that end, the fruit of three commercial varieties, Fortune, Nova, and Nadorcott, with significant differences in CI susceptibility, were selected. By on-tree fruit bagging, carotenoids and vitamin C contents were modified, and a differential effect of each cultivar on CI was observed. Carotenoid analysis in the peel revealed a strong negative correlation between total carotenoid concentration (TCC) at harvest, and specifically of β-cryptoxanthin and violaxanthin, and CI index at the end of storage. In contrast, vitamin C content was significantly and positively correlated with CI susceptibility. The antioxidant activity assessed by the DPPH• and FRAP reflected the contribution of vitamin C to the antioxidant system, while the SOAC assay correlated positively with TTC, β-cryptoxanthin, and violaxanthin. Seedling roots were treated for various time periods (1, 12, and 24 h) with aqueous cyanobacterial extracts and underwent either immunostaining for α-tubulin or staining of F-actin with fluorescent phalloidin. 2,7-dichlorofluorescein diacetate (DCF-DA) staining was performed for H2O2 imaging. Polyaniline composite film was electrodeposited on the FTO (fluorine-doped tin oxide) substrate from the aqueous electrolyte that contained aniline (monomer) and exfoliated WO3 as a source of counter ions. The chemical nature of WO3 incorporated in the polyaniline matrix was investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. SEM (scanning electron microscopy) showed the impact of WO3 presence on the morphology of polyaniline film. PANI/WO3 film was tested as an electrode material in an acidic electrolyte. Performed measurements showed the electroactivity of both components and enhanced electrochemical stability of PANI/WO3 in comparison with PANI/Cl. Thus, PANI/WO3 electrodes were utilized to construct the symmetric supercapacitors. The impact of capacitive and diffusion-controlled processes on the mechanism of electrical energy storage was quantitatively determined. Targeted metabolomics (including 137 metabolites) was performed in plasma samples obtained during an oral glucose tolerance test from 48 mothers with GDM and their offspring at a cross-sectional study visit 8 years after delivery. Partial Pearson's correlations between the area under the curve (AUC) of maternal and offspring metabolites were calculated, yielding so-called Gaussian graphical models. Spearman's correlations were applied to investigate correlations of body mass index (BMI), Matsuda insulin sensitivity index (ISI-M), dietary intake, and physical activity between generations, and correlations of metabolite AUCs with lifestyle variables. This study revealed that BMI, ISI-M, and the AUC of six metabolites (carnitine, taurine, proline, SM(-OH) C141, creatinine, and PC ae C343) were significantly correlated between mothers and offspring several years postpartum. Intergenerational metabolite correlations were independent of shared BMI, ISI-M, age, sex, and all other metabolites. Furthermore, creatinine was correlated with physical activity in mothers. This study suggests that there is long-term metabolic programming in the offspring of mothers with GDM and informs us about targets that could be addressed by future intervention studies.
Patient engagement is considered a critical factor in improving healthcare delivery. This study aimed to test the Korean version of the Clinician Support for Patient Activation Measure (CS-PAM) using Rasch analysis, and to explore nurses' beliefs about patient self-management.
A cross-sectional, exploratory study design was employed. The staff nurses who were recruited from six hospitals were requested to complete the Korean CS-PAM. Their responses were subsequently subjected to Rasch analysis to validate the Korean CS-PAM. The CS-PAM was paraphrased into Korean using the standardized forward-backward translation method.
The internal consistency of the scale had good Cronbach's alpha value. For all items, the infit and outfit statistics fell well within the acceptable range of 0.5-1.5. This measure formed a unidimensional Guttman-like scale that explained 54.7% of the variance.
The Korean version of the CS-PAM showed good psychometric properties and appeared to be consistent with the meaning of the original CS-PAM.

This study aimed to test the Korean version of the Clinician Support for Patient Activation Measure (CS-PAM) using Rasch analysis, and to explore nurses' beliefs about patient self-management. A cross-sectional, exploratory study design was employed. The staff nurses who were recruited from six hospitals were requested to complete the Korean CS-PAM. Their responses were subsequently subjected to Rasch analysis to validate the Korean CS-PAM. The CS-PAM was paraphrased into Korean using the standardized forward-backward translation method. The internal consistency of the scale had good Cronbach's alpha value. For all items, the infit and outfit statistics fell well within the acceptable range of 0.5-1.5. This measure formed a unidimensional Guttman-like scale that explained 54.7% of the variance. This study developed a novel classification scheme to assign chemicals to a verifiable mechanism of (eco-)toxicological action to allow for grouping, read-across, and in silico model generation. The new classification scheme unifies and extends existing schemes and has, at its heart, direct reference to molecular initiating events (MIEs) promoting adverse outcomes. The scheme is organized at three further levels of detail beyond broad domains to separate out the mechanistic group, specific mechanism, and the MIEs responsible. Dietary regimens have so far been studied as possible determinants of semen quality and fertility. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a Mediterranean diet, as compared with a low-fat diet, on seminal parameters of young healthy adults from southern Italy.
In a randomized controlled trial, 160 young adults aged 18-30 years were assigned to Mediterranean diet (N.=80) or a low-fat diet (N.=80). The primary outcome measures were changes in semen parameters after six months.
Mean age of participants in the study was 24.7 years. There was no difference in baseline semen parameters of men randomized to Mediterranean diet or low-fat diet. After the entire follow-up, participants in both groups showed a significant increase in sperm concentration and sperm total count, with significant differences favoring the Mediterranean diet group (sperm concentration, 1.93 M/mL 95% CI [1.22 to 3.64], P=0.027; total sperm count 8.02 M 95% CI [1.51 to 15.45], P=0.035). No differences in other semen parameters were found between groups.

The aim of the study was to assess the effects of interventions during bronchoscopy on ventilation and determine the risk factors for hypoventilation related to both interventions and patients' demographical and clinical characteristics.
A total of 74 patients who underwent fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FOB) were included in the study. Oxygen saturation (SpO2) and partial carbon dioxide pressure (PCO2) were measured transcutaneously (TcSO2 and TcPCO2) using a sensor consisting of a probe placed on the earlobe. The demographic characteristics and basal, mean, peak and minimum values of TcSO2 and TcPCO2 during FOB were retrospectively analyzed and assessed in terms of the risk factors for hypoventilation.
During the procedure, the device automatically recorded the TcSO2 and TcPCO2 values. The mean TcPCO2 level was 37.09 ± 5.6 (27.1-60.6) mmHg. The mean increase in the TcPCO2 level from baseline was 3.25 ± 2.12 mmHg. The mean TcSO2 measurement was 95.9 ± 2.27 (80-100%). The measured mean and peak TcPCO2 values of ventilation is PCO2, and monitorization of PCO2 is very important in detecting hypoventilation. In this study, we determined some risk factors for hypoventilation in order to predict ventilation problems in patients planned to undergo FOB. We recommend that in male patients with endobronchial lesions, those with a longer smoking history, and those with a longer duration of FOB, SpO2 should be monitored together with PCO2.

This study has been carried out by including 100 females and 116 males, 216 patients in total, who were diagnosed with OSAS in the Sleep Laboratory of the Medicine Faculty, Ankara University between the years of 2011 and 2014. The demographical information like the ages and the genders of all patients and the figures of the height, weight and body-mass index (BMI) have been recorded. The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) of patients have also been recorded. Acquired by the polysomnography equipment, the polysomnographical data of all pare older and obese at a more rate and they have lower Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) than the males with OSAS. We have also distinguished that the symptoms related to OSAS of both genders are similar despite the lower Apnea Hypopnea Index of females. Meanwhile we want to emphasize that clinicians need to take these factors into consideration while focusing on the diagnosis of OSAS in female patients.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a fatal and pandemic disease discovered in December 2019 in Wuhan, with lots of asymptomatic cases and a long incubation period. The researchers suggested that high d-dimer levels could predict disease severity, lung complications, and thromboembolic events before they occur.
We searched in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science using the keywords "D-dimer" and "coronavirus" or "D-dimer" and "COVID-19." We used Standardized Mean Differences (SMD) to build forest plots of continuous data and assess differences in serum D-dimer concentrations between severe and non-severe patients with COVID-19 disease. We evaluated p-value < 0.05 as statistically significant and preferred 95% confidence intervals (CIs).
The pooled results of all studies revealed that the D-dimer concentrations were significantly higher in patients with more severe COVID-19 (SMD 2.32 μg/mL; 95% CI, 0.72 3.92 μg/mL, p< 0.001). We evaluated severe patients with total D-dimer levels. D-dimer concentrations were significantly higher in severe patients against total COVID-19 patients (SMD 2.01 μg/mL; 95% CI, 0.25 to 3.77 μg/mL, p= 0.08).

We searched in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science using the keywords "D-dimer" and "coronavirus" or "D-dimer" and "COVID-19." We used Standardized Mean Differences (SMD) to build forest plots of continuous data and assess differences in serum D-dimer concentrations between severe and non-severe patients with COVID-19 disease. We evaluated p-value < 0.05 as statistically significant and preferred 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The pooled results of all studies revealed that the D-dimer concentrations were significantly higher in patients with more severe COVID-19 (SMD 2.32 μg/mL; 95% CI, 0.72 3.92 μg/mL, p< 0.001). We evaluated severe patients with total D-dimer levels. D-dimer concentrations were significantly higher in severe patients against total COVID-19 patients (SMD 2.01 μg/mL; 95% CI, 0.25 to 3.77 μg/mL, p= 0.08). We do not know the D-dimer increment mechanism in severe patients yet, but we think that these findings will be useful in the early diagnosis of severe disease and the first treatment. A variety of minimally invasive surgical approaches are available as an alternative to transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for management of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Prostatic arterial embolization (PAE) is a relatively new, minimally invasive treatment approach.
To assess the effects of PAE compared to other procedures for treatment of LUTS in men with BPH.
We performed a comprehensive search using multiple databases (The Cochrane Library, MEDLINE, Embase, LILACS, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar), trials registries, other sources of grey literature, and conference proceedings with no restrictions on language of publication or publication status, up until 25 September 2020.
We included parallel-group randomized controlled trials (RCTs), as well as non-randomized studies (NRS, limited to prospective cohort studies with concurrent comparison groups) enrolling men over the age of 40 with LUTSattributed to BPH undergoing PAE ce ejaculatory disorders. Longer term (follow-up of 13 to 24 months), we are very uncertain as to how both procedures compare with regard to urologic symptom scores, but quality of life appears to be similar. We are very uncertain about major adverse events but PAE may increase re-treatments. We did not find longer term evidence on erectile function and ejaculatory disorders. Certainty of evidence for the main outcomes of this review was low or very low, signalling that our confidence in the reported effect size is limited or very limited, and that this topic should be better informed by future research.

Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) analyses targeting the DYRK2 locus revealed frequent gene amplification in EGFR-mutated LADC, specifically occurring in the high-grade components, like mPAP. In summary, the results of this study suggest that DYRK2 overexpression through gene amplification is one of the molecular mechanisms responsible for promoting the progression of EGFR-mutated LADC.
The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of implant position of robotic-arm assisted total hip arthroplasty (THA) via the direct anterior approach (DAA).
All patients who underwent robotic-arm assisted DAA THA (MAKO Surgical Corp., Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) from November 2018 to January 2020 were prospectively followed up. Pelvis indices (limb length discrepancy, femoral and hip offset, implant inclination, and anteversion), surgical duration, length of stay, and complications were recorded. To further evaluate the accuracy of robotic-arm assisted THA, patients who underwent manual DAA THA by the same surgeon were match-paired with the study group.
Twenty-five patients underwent robotic-arm assisted DAA THR. Limb length discrepancy was restored to 0.1mm (±3.4mm) from 10.0mm (±6.4mm) postoperatively. Preoperatively, the difference in femoral offset was 5.1mm (±5.1mm), and this was corrected to 1.9mm (±6.5mm) postoperatively. Nine cases had target inclination of 40° and mean inclination achieved was 40.

It is believed that this selection will help to further understand and drive the development of seawater-degradable polymers.Patients suffering from heart failure often require circulatory support using ventricular assist devices (VADs). However, most existing VADs provide nonpulsatile flow, involve direct contact between the blood flow and the device's lumen and moving components, and require a driveline to connect to an external power source. These design features often lead to complications such as gastrointestinal bleeding, device thrombosis, and driveline infections. Here, a concept of magnetically active cardiac patches (MACPs) that can potentially function as non-blood contacting, untethered pulsatile VADs inside a magnetic actuationsystem is reported. The MACPs, which are composed of permanent magnets and 3D-printed patches, are attached to the epicardial surfaces, thus avoiding direct contact with the blood flow. They provide powerful actuation assisting native heart pumping inside a magnetic actuation system. In ex vivo experiments on a healthy pig's heart, it is shown that the ventricular ejection fractions are as high as 37% in the left ventricle and 63% in the right ventricle. Non-blood contacting, untethered VADs can eliminate the risk of serious complications associated with existing devices, and provide an alternative solution for myocardial training and therapy for patients with heart failure.The advances of nanobiotechnology and nanomedicine enable the triggering of in situ chemical reactions in disease microenvironment for achieving disease-specific nanotherapeutics with both intriguing therapeutic efficacy and mitigated side effects. Their reactions and corresponding products have been broadly explored in versatile disease treatments, including catalytic nanotherapeutics, photodynamic therapy, radiation therapy, antibacterial infection, tissue regeneration, and some synergistically therapeutic applications. This progress report particularly focuses on the underlying reaction mechanisms on enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of these modalities, accompanied with the discussion on their biological effects and biosafety. It also emphasizes the potential of different metagenomic approaches to explore the uncultivable cellulose-degrading microbiome as well as cellulolytic enzymes associated with them.
