Among 892 participants reporting co-occurring symptoms, 32.5% received neither pain nor emotional distress prescription medication. CONCLUSIONS Functional limitation due to pain and emotional distress persist among older adults with cancer, particularly octogenarians. Efforts to identify and target unmet supportive care needs to maintain functional independence are needed. Most were male (53%), had regional or distant disease (74%), and were aged less then 80 years (82%). The pre-existing prevalence of dysphagia was identified using claims codes before the lung cancer diagnosis. Survival was analyzed using Kaplan Meier curves and Cox proportional hazard models. RESULTS 8517 (4%) had dysphagia prior to their lung cancer diagnoses. Younger age, worse disease stage, more comorbidities, and hospital rurality were associated with higher likelihood of dysphagia. Patients with dysphagia had worse survival (median survival 8 months [95%CI 7,9]) than those without dysphagia (median survival 12 months [95%CI 11,13]). After adjusting for sociodemographic, clinical, and disease characteristics, dysphagia was still associated with worse survival (Hazard ratio of death 1.34, [95%CI 1.28-1.35], p ≤ .0001). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS This is the first Medicare claims-based study of older adults with lung cancer and dysphagia. Pre-existing dysphagia occurred in approximately 1 in 25 patients with lung cancer and was associated with worse survival. RESULTS Among 371 cancer survivors, 58 were older adults and 138 were AYA; 74% used the internet and 39% social media for cancer care; 48% felt confident in using online information for cancer-care decisions. The unanimous method of screening cervical cancer is a cervical smear stained with Papanicolaou stain. However, in spite of the various modifications, the staining procedure takes 20 min and uses substantial amount of alcohol which is highly priced. The aim of the study was to assess and analyze the quality of staining of cervical smears stained with Rapid Economical Acetic acid Papanicolaou (REAP) as compared to conventional pap stain in order to establish REAP as an alternative to conventional pap stain.
In this prospective study, a total of two smears each were collected from 50 females who visited the gynecology outpatient department. One of the smears was stained with conventional pap and the other with REAP. The conventional pap and REAP smears were evaluated and compared for the quality of staining.
The cervical smears stained with REAP showed optimal cytoplasmic and nuclear staining in 86% and 90% cases, respectively. The cytological findings and diagnosis of REAP stained smears correlated with their corresponding smears stained with conventional pap in 96% of cases. The turnaround time and cost per smear was **** low for REAP as compared to conventional pap stain.

Synovial fluid is a thick, stringy fluid found in the cavity of synovial joint. Examination of the synovium plays a key role in the diagnosis of many joint diseases.
The aim of this study was to study the spectrum of synovial lesions on fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and to compare the cytological diagnosis with histopathological findings.
This retrospective diagnostic analytical study was carried out in the Department of Pathology. Sixty-six patients with suspected synovial lesions referred from other departments who underwent FNAC during 1 year from January 2017 to December 2017 were included in the study. The slides along with records of the patients were retrieved and findings recorded. Histopathological evaluation was performed wherever possible and compared with cytological diagnosis.
Non-neoplastic lesions accounted for 80.3% cases followed by benign tumors (15.2%). Ganglion cyst was the commonest non-neoplastic lesion (60.6%, 40/66), while tenosynovial giant cell tumor was the commonest neoplasm (12.1%, 8/66) observed in our study. Solitary case of synovial sarcoma was also observed. Histopathological evaluation was performed in 14 cases and FNAC had overall diagnostic accuracy of 85.7% in diagnosis of these lesions.

Retrospective analysis of 891 FNACs of the breast was performed for a time span of 3 years. A total of 12 cases were diagnosed on FNAC as secondary neoplasms to the breast. Clinical and radiological data, along with Pap and MGG stained smears of each case were examined and correlated with the histopathology of the primary tumor. Statistical analysis was carried out. All cases of primary breast malignancies were excluded from our study.
In 10 out of 12 cases, primary malignancies were identified as Plasma cell myeloma (one case), B-acute lymphoblastic leukemia (two cases), acute myeloid leukemia (one case); chronic myeloid leukemia (one case), Burkitt's lymphoma of the ovary (one case), Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (one case), esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (one case), spindle cell sarcoma (one case) and squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix (one case). The remaining two cases in our study were misdiagnosed on cytology as metastasis and turned out to be breast primaries on histopathology.
Our case series highlights the importance of FNAC to differentiate secondary lesions from primary breast malignancy and thus helps to avoid unnecessary surgery to the patient. It emphasizes on the need to keep in mind the possibility of metastatic breast neoplasms in the presence of unusual cytological features on FNAC.

Multi characterization techniques and antibacterial assays were performed to investigate the flame-retardant and antibacterial properties of the CA/AgCl nanocomposites. The obtained results show that the CA/AgCl nanocomposites exhibited **** higher limiting oxygen index value (> 60%) than that of CA (48%) with a UL-94 rating of V-0. Moreover, CA/AgCl particularly displayed an efficiently smoke-suppressive feature by achieving a total smoke release value of 2.7 m2/m2, which was reduced by 91%, compared to CA. The sessile biofilms of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Listeria monocytogenes have increasingly become a critical threat in seafood safety. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of modified atmospheres on the formation ability of V. parahaemolyticus and L. monocytogenes biofilms. Objective To determine the rate and spectrum of rare variants in genes involved in melanocortin pathway or hypothalamic development in patients with severe early-onset obesity (height-adjusted weight >60% before age 10 years). Methods We used a custom-made targeted exome sequencing panel to assess peripheral blood DNA samples for rare (minor allele frequency less then 0.5%), pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants in 24 genes related to the hypothalamic circuit in 92 subjects (51% males, median age 13.7 years) with early-onset severe obesity (median body mass index (BMI) Z-score + 4.0). Results We identified a novel frameshift deletion in MC4R (p.V103Afs5*) in two unrelated patients and a previously reported MC4R variant (p.T112M) in one patient. In addition, we identified rare heterozygous missense variants in ADCY3 (p.G1110R), MYT1L (p.R807Q), ISL1 (p.I347F), LRP2 (p.R2479I, and p.N3315S) and a hemizygous missense variant in GRPR (p.L87M) (each in one patient), possibly contributing to the obesity phenotype in these patients. Altogether 8 % (7/92) of the subjects had rare pathogenic/likely pathogenic variants in the studied genes. Conclusions Rare genetic variants within the hypothalamic circuit are prevalent and contribute to the development of severe early-onset obesity. Targeted exome sequencing is useful in identifying affected subjects. Further studies are needed to evaluate the variants' clinical significance and to define optimal treatment. Therefore, we characterized and compared the oxylipin profiles of murine and human adipose tissues with different abundance of brown or brite adipocytes. A broad panel of 36 fatty acid metabolites was quantified in brown and white adipose tissues of C57BL/6J **** acclimatized to different ambient temperatures and in biopsies of human supraclavicular brown and white adipose tissue. The oxylipin profile of murine brite adipose tissue was not distinguishable from white adipose tissue, suggesting that adipose tissue browning in vivo is not associated with major changes in the oxylipin metabolism. Human brown and white adipose tissue also exhibited similar metabolite profiles. The sessile biofilms of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Listeria monocytogenes have increasingly become a critical threat in seafood safety. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of modified atmospheres on the formation ability of V. parahaemolyticus and L. monocytogenes biofilms. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is the most common pathogen of community-acquired pneumonia in humans. Due to its high rates of antibiotic resistance, vaccination has become the best method to control the dissemination of M. pneumoniae. The recombinant carboxyl terminus of the P1 (P1C) protein is an immunodominant antigen, but it has negative effects such as poor stability and lower purity. In the current study, T-B epitopes of the P1C protein were predicted according to bioinformatics analysis and assessed for efficacy in peptide vaccination. BALB/c **** were subcutaneously inoculated with the T-B epitope peptides four times and then infected with M. pneumoniae through the respiratory tract. The results showed that the T-B epitope peptides of the P1C protein (P1C103-117, P1C155-169, P1C224-238 and P1C244-258) induced strong antigen-specific serum antibody responses and cellular immune responses with high levels of serum IgG, IgA antibodies and Th1-biased (IFN-γ and IL-2) cytokines. Immunization with T-B epitope peptides significantly reduced the M. pneumoniae burden and the degree of inflammation in the challenged ****. Furthermore, the levels of IFN-γ and TNF-α in the supernatants of lung homogenates were observably reduced compared to those in the PBS group. Towards this end, we surveyed 556 undergraduate women to examine how body surveillance, self-objectification, and self-sexualization differentially predict women's sexual assertiveness, sexual satisfaction, feelings of entitlement to sexual pleasure, condom use self-efficacy, and sexual esteem. Path analysis demonstrated consistent negative links between body surveillance, one behavioral manifestation of self-objectification, and sexual agency outcomes, but revealed both negative and positive links between measures of sexualization and sexual agency. This complex set of associations highlights the value of studying self-objectification and self-sexualization both in tandem and separately, so that researchers can develop a better understanding of the implications of each for women's sexual agency.Research suggests that weight-related teasing is associated with body concerns and disordered eating in male and female adolescents and women. Trauma and OGM were assessed using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) and Autobiographical Memory Test (AMT), respectively. Basal cortisol levels were measured by 10 points-in-time across two days. Multiple mediation analysis was employed.
CTQ was associated with greater semantic-associate memory of OGM, a retrieval tendency toward semantic content with no specific contextual details of an experienced event, as well as blunted basal cortisol levels.

Citrus Huanglongbing (HLB) disease or citrus greening is caused by Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (Las) and is the most devastating disease in the global citrus industry. Salicylic acid (SA) plays a central role in regulating plant defenses against pathogenic attack. SA methyltransferase (SAMT) modulates SA homeostasis by converting SA to methyl salicylate (MeSA). Here, we report on the functions of the citrus SAMT (CsSAMT1) gene from HLB-susceptible Wanjincheng orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck) in plant defenses against Las infection. The CsSAMT1 cDNA was expressed in yeast. Using in vitro enzyme assays, yeast expressing CsSAMT1 was confirmed to specifically catalyze the formation of MeSA using SA as a substrate. Transgenic Wanjincheng orange plants overexpressing CsSAMT1 had significantly increased levels of SA and MeSA compared to wild-type controls. HLB resistance was evaluated for two years and showed that transgenic plants displayed significantly alleviated symptoms including a lack of chlorosis, low bacterial counts, reduced hyperplasia of the phloem cells, and lower levels of starch and callose compared to wild-type plants. Citrus Huanglongbing (HLB) disease or citrus greening is caused by Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (Las) and is the most devastating disease in the global citrus industry. Salicylic acid (SA) plays a central role in regulating plant defenses against pathogenic attack. SA methyltransferase (SAMT) modulates SA homeostasis by converting SA to methyl salicylate (MeSA). Here, we report on the functions of the citrus SAMT (CsSAMT1) gene from HLB-susceptible Wanjincheng orange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck) in plant defenses against Las infection. The CsSAMT1 cDNA was expressed in yeast. Using in vitro enzyme assays, yeast expressing CsSAMT1 was confirmed to specifically catalyze the formation of MeSA using SA as a substrate. Transgenic Wanjincheng orange plants overexpressing CsSAMT1 had significantly increased levels of SA and MeSA compared to wild-type controls. HLB resistance was evaluated for two years and showed that transgenic plants displayed significantly alleviated symptoms including a lack of chlorosis, low bacterial counts, reduced hyperplasia of the phloem cells, and lower levels of starch and callose compared to wild-type plants. This process resulted in the identification of potential novel HIV reverse transcriptase inhibitors which were synthesized and shown to exhibit similar in vitro potencies to marketed compounds. Overall, the methodology described provides a powerful new approach to identify new target opportunities for scaffolds of provenance.Whereas the self-assembly of pentaphosphaferrocenes [CpRFe(η5-P5)] (CpR = Cp*, Cp×, and CpBn) with Cu and Ag salts has been well-studied in the past, the coordination chemistry toward Au complexes has been left untouched so far. Herein, the results of the self-assembly processes of [CpRFe(η5-P5)] with Au salts of different anions (GaCl4-, SbF6-, and Al(OC(CF3)3)4 (TEF-)) are reported. Next to a variety of molecular coordination products, the first coordination polymers based on polyphosphorus ligand complexes and Au salts are also obtained. Thereby, a 2D coordination polymer comprising metal vacancies is isolated. In all products, the Au centers are coordinated in a linear or a trigonal planar environment. In solution, highly dynamic processes are observed. Variable-temperature NMR spectroscopy, solid-state NMR spectroscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction were applied to gain further insight into selected coordination compounds.Two metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), UiO-66 and UiO-66-NH2, were considered as containers for bioactive chemicals. We provide a synthesis technique, which allowed the production of these materials suitable for biomedical applications. Both MOFs were characterized as single-phase porous materials composed of nanoparticles (30-65 nm) with a ζ-potential of more than 40 mV in water suspension. D,L-Leucine was applied as a model molecule, which allowed us to trace the mechanism of the loading process. We showed that after synthesis, amino groups of UiO-66-NH2 are coordinated with solvent residuals. It results in a similar route of leucine loading in UiO-66 and UiO-66-NH2 samples. Using joint data of thermogravimetric analysis and calorimetry, infrared spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption, we revealed that methyl groups of leucine molecules are responsible for bonding of an MOF matrix. We proposed the formation of bonds between CH3 groups and benzene rings of linkers via CH-π interaction. We also assessed the toxicity of the synthesized MOFs toward HeLa cells at 50 μg/mL after 24 h incubation and revealed no negative effects on the viability of the cells, prompting further biomedical research in the areas of small-molecule delivery and cell signaling and metabolism modulation.Photoresponse ranges of commercially prevailing photoelectric semiconductors, typically Si and InGaAs, are far from fully covering the whole solar spectrum (∼295-2500 nm), resulting in insufficient solar energy conversion or narrow wave bands for photoelectric detection. Recent studies have shown that infinite π-aggregation of viologen radicals can provide semiconductors with a photoelectric response range covering the solar spectrum. However, controlled assembly of an infinite π-aggregate is still a great challenge in material design. Through directional self-assembly of electron-transfer photoactive polycyclic ligands, two crystalline inorganic-organic hybrid photochromic viologen-based bismuth halide semiconductors, ((Me)3pytpy)[BiCl6]·2H2O [1; (Me)3pytpy = N,N',N″-trimethyl-2,4,6-tris(4-pyridyl)pyridine] and ((Me)3pytpy)[Bi2Cl9]·H2O (2), have been synthesized. They represent the first series of pytpy-based photochromic compounds. After photoinduced coloration, the conductivities of both 1 and 2 increased. The radical products have electron absorption bands in the range of 200-1600 nm, exceeding that of Si. Both the conductivity and the photocurrent intensity of 2 are stronger than those of 1, due to better planarity, tighter π-stacking, and higher degrees of overlap of ((Me)3pytpy)3+ cations. This study not only provides a new design idea for synthesizing radical-based multispectral photoelectric semiconductors but also enriches the family of electron-transfer photochromic compounds.Herein, we have developed a fully automated optofluidic device to execute enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using an active 96-well hybrid lab-on-a-chip (LOC) device. To automate the solution loading into the reaction zone of the device and the post-assayed signal analysis, laser irradiation-induced image whitening was utilized with a smartphone-based optical platform. Two optical phenomena were utilized in our platform to detect the liquid in the reaction chamber using a smartphone. First, by Fresnel's equation, the refraction difference between air and water resulted in the intensity change of the reflected light from the reaction chamber. Therefore, when the liquid was entering into the reaction chamber, the intensity of the reflected light was changed. Second, when the light intensity increases, the smartphone-captured image whitens out due to saturation, even when the red color light was incident. Therefore, by measuring the RGB value of the smartphone image, the intensity changes by the liquid movement in the reaction chamber were successfully monitored. Our platform showed a low detection limit of 7.81 pg/mL for the detection of the NT-proBNP human cardiac biomarker with almost a half standard deviation, compared to the manually operated LOC-based ELISA. Non-Hispanic Black (NHB) emerging adult (EA) women are at disproportionate risk for obesity but experience limited benefit from behavioral weight loss (BWL) programs. Race-related stress could play a role; the goal of this study was to examine the association between racial discrimination (RD) and early (3 months) changes in adiposity, and to explore potential protective factors, among EA in an adapted BWL program.
This is an ancillary study of non-Hispanic White (NHW) and NHB EA women enrolled in an adapted BWL trial (N = 49; 55.1% NHB; Age 21.2 (2.1); BMI = 33.0 + 4.3 kg/m
). At baseline, group- and personal-level RD (RD-group and RD-personal), racial identity (NHB women only), vigilant coping, and social support were assessed via validated questionnaires. Weight and waist circumference were measured objectively at 0 and 3 months.
NHW women manifested greater reductions in waist circumference relative to NHB women (p = .004). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/at-406.html RD-personal did not predict change in waist circumference at 3 months (p = .402); however, the association between RD-group and change in waist circumference was statistically significant (p = .015), such that reporting greater group-level discrimination predicted a smaller decrease in waist circumference; the model explained 22% of the variance. Among NHB women only, higher racial identity-centrality predicted greater reduction in waist circumference (p = .019).
Findings suggest racial discrimination could contribute to greater cardiometabolic risk during this developmental period. Future research should examine how experiences of racial discrimination unfold in the daily lives of NHB women to inform mechanistic interventions to enhance health and well-being.

123 patients were included, 111 girls, 12 boys, mean age 12years. The measurement of the curve had a good reproducibility (ICC 0.816). ST differentiated patients with or without increased Cobb. (p = 0.0294).

Non-Hispanic Black (NHB) emerging adult (EA) women are at disproportionate risk for obesity but experience limited benefit from behavioral weight loss (BWL) programs. Race-related stress could play a role; the goal of this study was to examine the association between racial discrimination (RD) and early (3 months) changes in adiposity, and to explore potential protective factors, among EA in an adapted BWL program. This is an ancillary study of non-Hispanic White (NHW) and NHB EA women enrolled in an adapted BWL trial (N = 49; 55.1% NHB; Age 21.2 (2.1); BMI = 33.0 + 4.3 kg/m ). At baseline, group- and personal-level RD (RD-group and RD-personal), racial identity (NHB women only), vigilant coping, and social support were assessed via validated questionnaires. The effect of obesity on response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) remains unknown. We aimed to investigate the effect of obesity on response to NACT and survival in locally-advanced gastric cancer (GC).
From 2010 to 2019, 142 GC patients with clinical stage III disease who underwent curative surgery after NACT were enrolled. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to body mass index (BMI) as follows; BMI < 25 kg/m2, BMI = 25-30 kg/m2, and BMI > 30 kg/m2. The Mandard tumor regression grading system was used for tumor regression grade (TRG).
Of the 142 GC patients, 45(31.7%) were female. The median age was 58 years. BMI was < 25 kg/m2 in 60 (42.3%) patients, 25-30 kg/m2 in 44 (31%) patients, and > 30kg/m2 in 38 (26.8%) patients. The numbers of patients with TRGI-II, TRGIII, and TRGIV-V were 35 (24.6%), 44 (31%), and 63 (44.4%), respectively. There was no statistically significant difference among BMI groups in terms of disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) (p = 0.919 and p = 0.398, respectively). According to TRG groups; mDFS was 46 months in TRG I-II, 28 months in TRG III, and 18 months in TRG IV-V (p <0.001). In multivariate analysis, presence of perineural invasion and lymphovascular invasion were the factors affecting TRG.
In our study, we found that pre-treatment obesity did not affect the TRG in clinical stage III GC patients. However, a better TRG status was associated with improved survival.<br />.

Cancer is a known risk factor for developing active tuberculosis (TB) disease. The incidence of and risk factors for TB are not known among cancer patients in Thailand. This study aimed to investigate risk factors for TB among cancer patients in an area with endemic TB infections.
We used the Khon Kaen population-based cancer registry and two TB databases to conduct a retrospective cohort study of cancer patients. From 2001 to 2015, we identified 40,948 eligible cancer patients. Following until 2017, we identified cases of TB diagnosed after cancer diagnosis and analyzed primary cancer site, staging, treatment, and demographic factors. Adjusted incidence rate ratios (adj. IRR) were computed to identify risk factors among a sub-set of cancer types (n = 9,733) using Poisson regression.

In the case-control study, 300 subjects including 150 women with breast cancer and 150 healthy women were enrolled. After blood sample collection, the C677T and A1298C polymorphisms genotyping were done by the PCR-RFLP method. Our data revealed a significant association between MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms and breast cancer risk. But, as a preliminary study, stratified analysis revealed no significant association between C677T and A1298C polymorphisms and tumor size and also lymph node metastasis in breast cancer. According to the mentioned findings, the C677T and A1298C polymorphisms in the MTHFR gene could be molecular risk factors for breast cancer in our studied population. However, further studies with larger sample sizes are required to obtain a more accurate conclusion in stratified analysis..

Chemical exposure is particularly high in the manufacturing industry and workers in this sector may face a higher occupational risk for cancer. We aimed to estimate inequalities in the risk of cancers related to occupational chemical exposure in various manufacturing categories.
Using nationwide clinical inpatient data (1984-2017) in Japan, we undertook a multicenter, case-control study with regard to risks of developing cancers among various manufacturing industry categories. Using the food manufacturing industry as the reference group, odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for each industry were estimated by conditional logistic regression, adjusted for sex, age, admission period, and the admitting hospital. Medical record summaries accounting for 89% of industrial categories with high odds ratios were collected to confirm diagnoses made on the basis of histology. We estimated industrial hazards based on the Pollutant Release and Transfer Register.
A reduced risk for some of common cancers was observed among lumber and wood products industries. Leather tanning, leather products and fur tended to show a higher risk 2.36 (95% CI 1.15-4.83) for pancreatic cancer, 2.85 (95% CI 1.26-6.47) for liver cancer and 2.00 (95% CI 1.01-3.99) for lung cancer. Our data revealed a significant association between MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms and breast cancer risk. But, as a preliminary study, stratified analysis revealed no significant association between C677T and A1298C polymorphisms and tumor size and also lymph node metastasis in breast cancer. Chemical exposure is particularly high in the manufacturing industry and workers in this sector may face a higher occupational risk for cancer. We aimed to estimate inequalities in the risk of cancers related to occupational chemical exposure in various manufacturing categories.
Using nationwide clinical inpatient data (1984-2017) in Japan, we undertook a multicenter, case-control study with regard to risks of developing cancers among various manufacturing industry categories. Using the food manufacturing industry as the reference group, odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals for each industry were estimated by conditional logistic regression, adjusted for sex, age, admission period, and the admitting hospital. Medical record summaries accounting for 89% of industrial categories with high odds ratios were collected to confirm diagnoses made on the basis of histology. We estimated industrial hazards based on the Pollutant Release and Transfer Register.

We aimed to investigate the effect of obesity on response to NACT and survival in locally-advanced gastric cancer (GC). From 2010 to 2019, 142 GC patients with clinical stage III disease who underwent curative surgery after NACT were enrolled. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to body mass index (BMI) as follows; BMI < 25 kg/m2, BMI = 25-30 kg/m2, and BMI > 30 kg/m2. The Mandard tumor regression grading system was used for tumor regression grade (TRG). Of the 142 GC patients, 45(31.7%) were female. The median age was 58 years. BMI was < 25 kg/m2 in 60 (42.3%) patients, 25-30 kg/m2 in 44 (31%) patients, and > 30kg/m2 in 38 (26.8%) patients. The numbers of patients with TRGI-II, TRGIII, and TRGIV-V were 35 (24.6%), 44 (31%), and 63 (44.4%), respectively. There was no statistically significant difference among BMI groups in terms of disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) (p = 0.919 and p = 0.398, respectively). According to TRG groups; mDFS was 46 months in TRG I-II, 28 months in TRG III, and 18 months in TRG IV-V (p <0.001). This study aimed to investigate risk factors for TB among cancer patients in an area with endemic TB infections. We used the Khon Kaen population-based cancer registry and two TB databases to conduct a retrospective cohort study of cancer patients. From 2001 to 2015, we identified 40,948 eligible cancer patients. Following until 2017, we identified cases of TB diagnosed after cancer diagnosis and analyzed primary cancer site, staging, treatment, and demographic factors. Adjusted incidence rate ratios (adj. IRR) were computed to identify risk factors among a sub-set of cancer types (n = 9,733) using Poisson regression. There is a paucity of literature describing the recovery trajectory after surgery for upper extremity ischemia. Using Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Physical Function (PF), Upper Extremity (UE), Pain Interference (PI), and Depression domains, we aimed to describe the postoperative recovery of such patients.
We queried our PROMIS database for patients undergoing surgery for vasospastic or occlusive disease over a 4.5-year period. Inclusion criteria were preoperative, early (average 3 weeks) and late (average 6 months) postoperative PROMIS PF and/or UE, PI, and Depression scores. The change in PROMIS scores was calculated for each time point. Changes in PROMIS scores were compared with minimal clinically important difference estimates.

The abductor pollicis longus (APL) is classically described as inserting on the base of the first metacarpal. This study analyzed APL insertional anatomy and quantified the size of various elements of the extensor side of the thumb to determine associations with size and function.
Twenty-four formalin-preserved upper limbs were dissected. The insertional anatomy of the APL, extensor pollicis brevis, and extensor pollicis longus were characterized, and the capacity of APL tendon slips to perform palmar abduction of the first digit was quantified based on slip size and insertion.
The mean number of APL tendon slips observed was 2.3. Abductor pollicis longus insertion sites included the base of the first metacarpal, trapezium, abductor pollicis brevis, and opponens pollicis. Only 4 specimens had a solitary metacarpal slip, while 83% of specimens had insertions onto at least 1 thenar muscle. A total of 62.5% of APL tendons exhibited some form of branching that we categorized into "Y" and "Z" patterns. In assessing palmar abduction capacity, we found that APL tendon slips inserting into the base of the first metacarpal were larger in cross-sectional area than nonmetacarpal slips and reproduced complete palmar abduction of the digit in the absence of nonmetacarpal slips. The abduction capacity of APL tendon slips was not correlated to the cross-sectional area.
There is significant variability in APL tendon slips, branching patterns, and insertional anatomy. These findings provide further understanding of the function of the APL and its surgical implications.

The occurrence of radial artery occlusion was chosen as the primary outcome while the hematoma at access site and spasm as secondary and tertiary outcome, respectively.

Following trapeziectomy, a number of suspensionplasty techniques are often used, but limited comparative evidence exists between these techniques. The central aim of this study was to prospectively compare the outcomes of 2 suspensionplasty techniques following trapeziectomy suture button (TightRope) versus ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition (LRTI).
Prospective data were collected on 112 consecutive patients with Eaton stage III-IV thumb CMC arthritis who underwent open trapeziectomy and suspensionplasty. There were 53 LRTI and 59 TightRope suspensionplasty procedures. Outcomes were measured using the Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (
DASH) questionnaire, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for pain, radiographic analysis, and lateral pinch strength. Patient demographic data and complications were also recorded.

Nitinol memory compression staples have been proposed as an effective alternative to compression screws for capitolunate arthrodesis (CLA) for scaphoid nonunion advanced collapse (SNAC) and scapholunate advanced collapse (SLAC) wrist. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of CLA for SNAC or SLAC wrist treatment using either compression screws or nitinol staples.
In all, 47 patients with CLA for SLAC or SNAC wrist with screws or nitinol staples were retrospectively identified. Primary outcome was fusion on radiographs and/or computed tomography. Secondary outcomes were hardware-related complications (HWCs) and other complications, range of motion, grip strength, and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), including Visual Analogue Pain scale; Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand score; and patient-rated wrist evaluation.
Of the 47 eligible patients, 40 (85%) were included 31 patients in the staple group and 9 patients in the screw group. The average age was 49 (17-80) years.
