All animals were decapitated on day 32, and the spinal cord in the upper thoracic region was harvested. Vertebral tissues were subjected to routine histological procedures. Histopathological examination revealed that PEMF group vertebral cartilage had been converted into bone tissue. Comparison of central canal diameter and area values between the PEMF group and the PC group revealed statistically significant increases in the PEMF group (p = 0.000 and p = 0.001, respectively). Statistical analysıs revealed no significant difference in mean body weights between the two groups (p > 0.530). Based on these findings, we think that 900 MHz EMF applied in the prenatal period affects the development of the vertebrae. This effect causes pathological changes in the rat pup vertebrae. These findings now raise the question of whether EMF also has an impact on neurological and neurosurgical diseases involving the vertebrae.Females aged between 13 and 17 years old possess the highest non-contact ACL injury incidence of any sex-age strata. The purpose of this study was to identify sex-specific energy absorption strategies in adolescent males and females, including the relationship between strength and the observed strategies. Thirty-one healthy adolescent athletes completed unanticipated single-leg drop-jump landings on their dominant limb. Sex-specific kinematics and lower-limb contributions to energy absorption were then compared over the landing phase for each jump. Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients determined the relationship between isometric joint strength and the observed kinematics and energy absorption. Female participants absorbed a larger proportion of the landing energy at the ankle (p = 0.046, d = 0.75) and smaller proportion at the hip (p = 0.028, d = 0.85) compared to males. Females also reached larger peak negative joint power in their knee (p = 0.001, d = 1.1) and ankle (p = 0.04, d = 0.79). Hip extension strength was positively correlated with trunk flexion (r = 0.559, p = 0.001) and negatively correlated with forward pelvic tilt (r = -0.513, p = 0.003). Females adopted an energy absorption strategy which utilized the distal joints to absorb a larger portion of the landing forces and tended to absorb the forces later in the landing phase relative to males. Measures of performance during RBT, based upon perturbation speed, also associated with RBT-induced improvements in maximum trunk angle. The system, consisting of two wireless wearable sensors, accurately extracts and classifies the features of respiratory behaviors of subjects within various postures, wirelessly transmitting the temporal respiratory behaviors to a laptop. The sensors were attached on the midway of the xiphoid process and the costal margin, and 1 cm above the umbilicus, respectively. The wireless wearable sensor, consisting of ultrasound emitter, ultrasound receiver, data acquisition and wireless transmitter, has a small footprint and light weight. The sensors correlate the mechanical strain at wearing sites to lung volume by measuring the local circumference changes of the chest and abdominal walls simultaneously.

Herein, this article enlightens a deep understanding of the molecular control of MF in EGMS lines and exploring the regulatory driving forces that function efficiently during plant adaption under a changing environment. We highlighted a possible solution in obtaining more stable hybrids through apomixis (single-line system) for seed production.We systematically investigated the roles of tail length on the self-assembly of shape amphiphiles composed of a hydrophobic polymer chain (tail) and a hydrophilic nanoparticle in selective solvent using Brownian dynamics simulations. The shape amphiphiles exhibited a variety of self-assembled aggregate morphologies which can be tuned by changing tail length (n) in combination with amphiphile concentration (φ) and system temperature (T*). Specifically, at high φ with T*=1.4, the morphology varied following the sequence "spheres → cylinders → vesicles" upon increasing n, agreeing well with experimental observations. At low φ with T*=1.4 or at high φ with T*=1.2, the morphology sequence becomes "spheres or spheres and cylinders mixture → cylinders → vesicles → spheres" upon increasing n, which has not been found experimentally. Two morphological phase diagrams depending on n and φ were constructed for T*=1.4 and 1.2, respectively. BS21 enhanced protein levels of the beta-oxidation genes carnitine palmitoyltransferase (CPT1) and phospho-acetyl-coA carboxylase (p-ACC). BS21 also induced protein expressions of the browning marker genes PR domain containing 16 (PRDM16), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma co-activator 1-alpha (PGC1α), and uncoupling protein (UCP) 1, and it induced the expression of the thermogenic gene UCP2. Furthermore, BS21 increased adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) activation. The EPTB affects particularly the young population whose age is between 15 and 34 years. The pleural and lymph node localizations are the most common with 45% and 28% respectively. The statistical analysis reveals that younger patients are preferentially affected by lymph node tuberculosis whereas oldest ones are more likely to suffer from urogenital and pericardial tuberculosis. Regarding the treatment outcome, we demonstrated that age is significantly associated with the treatment outcome and that deaths occur preferentially in the oldest patients. Finally, we found out a significant association between males and pleural ETB localization, and between females and lymph node and peritoneo-itestinal ETB localizations.

It can affect all the nails hence the name. Trachyonychia is characterized by nail roughness, longitudinal ridging, fragility and hyper-pigmentation. It can occur in all ages and respond poorly to treatment. With this background, we report the case of a five year old girl with this disorder.Cysticercosis is a neglected tropical disease set as health priority by WHO. Most of the reported cases included isolated types of cysticercosis affecting the skin, the eyes or the brain . Disseminated types, however, are rare. We here report a case of disseminated cysticercosis affecting the brain, the eyes and the skin in a Senegalese female patient aged 66 years admitted with headaches and chronic seizures. Clinical examination showed cerebellar syndrome associated with generalized and painless nodular subcutaneous lesions. Diagnosis was confirmed based on histopathological examination of skin biopsy which showed cysticerci. Patient's outcome was good under albendazole therapy.The lesion of the accessory spinal nerve is often of iatrogenic origin. We report the case of an injury after a right jugulocarotid lymph node biopsy. A 30-year-old patient was referred for the treatment of right cervical lymphadenopathy suspected of tuberculosis. After the intervention and confirmation of tuberculosis diagnosis, the patient presented a functional impotence of the right shoulder and swarming of the right hand. The clinical examination found an active limitation of the shoulder, and a wasting of the upper bundle of the right trapezius muscle and the sternocleidomastoid. The EMG showed axonotmesis of the accessory spinal nerve and the MRI an amyotrophy of the trapezius with denervation edema. A simple rehabilitation has been scheduled. Damage of the accessory spinal nerve most often occurs after local surgery. EMG is essential for diagnosis. Rehabilitation is the first therapeutic option. Surgery can be considered if it fails.     this work aims to bring out the epidemiological characteristics of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) in the province of Larache (Morocco) and to investigate the effect of gender and age on its localization and treatment outcome. it consists in a retrospective study based on 2962 cases of EPTB, reported during the period 2000 to 2012. the mean age was 31.74 ± 18.83 years, with a median age of 26. Males are more affected by this form of tuberculosis, with a male to female sex-ratio of 1,15. The EPTB affects particularly the young population whose age is between 15 and 34 years. The pleural and lymph node localizations are the most common with 45% and 28% respectively. The statistical analysis reveals that younger patients are preferentially affected by lymph node tuberculosis whereas oldest ones are more likely to suffer from urogenital and pericardial tuberculosis.   • Poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone-co-butylacrylate-co-N-hydroxymethylacrylamide) has been synthesized by free radical polymerization at 70 °C. Copolymer were characterized by FT-IR, elemental analysis and viscometric methods. Invertase was immobilized onto poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone-co-butyl acrylate-co-N-hydroxymethyl acrylamide) by entrapment method. Optimum parameters (pH, temperature, substrate concentration, amount of polymer) for immobilization to obtain maximum activity were investigated. Kinetic parameters, Km and Vmax, of the free and immobilized invertases were also assayed. Results showed that immobilization enhanced the enzyme stability against changes of pH and temperature and immobilized enzyme showed lower Km value than free enzyme. One of the most interesting results is that the optimum operational temperature of the immobilized enzyme was 15 °C higher than that of the free enzyme. The next is the activity of the immobilized enzyme at the optimum temperature (70 °C) was approximately the same as the activity of the free enzyme at its optimum temperature (55 °C). Finally, immobilized invertase were used for determination of sucrose in commercial fruit juices. All these mechanisms represent chalcones' neuroprotective mechanisms. PAH was induced in rats by injection of Sugen 5416 and exposure to hypoxia for 21 days. Thereafter, animals were treated orally twice-daily for 28 days with either vehicle, NTP42 (0.05 mg/kg), Sildenafil (50 mg/kg), or NTP42+Sildenafil (0.05 mg/kg + 50 mg/kg, respectively). While Sildenafil or NTP42 mono-therapy led to non-significant reductions in the SuHx-induced rises in mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) or right ventricular systolic pressure (RSVP), combined use of NTP42+Sildenafil significantly reduced these increases in mPAP and RVSP. Detailed histologic analyses of pulmonary vessel remodelling, right ventricular hypertrophy and fibrosis demonstrated that while NTP42 and Sildenafil in mono-therapy resulted in significant benefits, NTP42+Sildenafil in dual-therapy showed an even greater benefit over either drug used alone. In summary, combined use of NTP42+Sildenafil in dual-therapy confers an even greater benefit in treating or offsetting key aetiologies underlying PAH. In total, we collected 4542 foliar fungal strains from 10 geographic sites, including 1340 from healthy leaves of Ag. adenophora, 2051 from leaf spots of Ag. adenophora and 1151 from leaf spots of 56 species of native plants and crops. Taxonomically, the common fungal genera included Colletotrichum, Diaporthe, Alternaria, Nemania, Xylaria, Neofusicoccum, Nigrospora, Epicoccum, Gibberella, Pestalotiopsis, Irpex, Schizophyllum and Clonostachys. We also isolated the cultivable fungi from 12 air samples collected from six areas in Yunnan Province, PR China. Among the total of 1255 air fungal isolates, the most common genera were Cladosporium, Trichoderma and Epicoccum.     Biopsy and necropsy reports from the Department of Veterinary Pathology were retrieved, and 13 cases of pleomorphic sarcoma (PS) were selected according to the established epidemiologic, pathologic and IHC criteria. All samples were fixed in 10% formalin, routinely processed for histology, and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Samples also underwent IHC testing for vimentin, ionized calcium-binding adaptor molecule 1 (Iba-1), desmin, actin and S-100.

    The aim of this study was to describe the treatment and outcome of acetabular and other pelvic fractures in cats with patellar fracture and dental anomaly syndrome (PADS) and to provide advice on how to manage these cases in practice.

    Data were collated on cats with PADS that were reported to have sustained pelvic fractures or had fractures or fissures of the pelvis identified on submitted radiographs. The details of the fractures were recorded, in addition to any treatment and outcome information.

    Of the 215 cases reported with PADS, 58 cats (27%) were found to have pelvic fractures, none of which were known to have resulted from significant trauma. There were 101 fractures in total and of these 15 were treated with surgery, including 10 acetabular fractures, two ilial, two pubic and one ischial fracture. Screw loosening and loss of fracture reduction was seen in four of the surgically treated fractures (two pubic fractures, one ilial and one acetabular fracture). Fourteen cats were euthanased as a direct result of a fracture occurring.

In multivariable analysis, nosocomial infections were associated with significantly higher long-term costs up to 2 years post-infection. We also isolated the cultivable fungi from 12 air samples collected from six areas in Yunnan Province, PR China. The details of the fractures were recorded, in addition to any treatment and outcome information. Of the 215 cases reported with PADS, 58 cats (27%) were found to have pelvic fractures, none of which were known to have resulted from significant trauma. There were 101 fractures in total and of these 15 were treated with surgery, including 10 acetabular fractures, two ilial, two pubic and one ischial fracture. Screw loosening and loss of fracture reduction was seen in four of the surgically treated fractures (two pubic fractures, one ilial and one acetabular fracture). However, the results of serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) d-serine levels are conflicting. We conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the serum and CSF d-serine levels in patients with AD.

    We searched PubMed, the Cochrane central register of controlled trials, and the Cochrane database of systematic reviews for trials that measured d-serine levels both in patients with AD and in controls. AV samples showed reduced absolute abundances of bacteria in general and specifically of lactobacilli by qPCR, but 16S rRNA gene sequencing and amplicon sequence variant analysis revealed that Lactobacillus remained the dominant taxon in 25% of the AV samples studied. The other AV samples showed high relative abundances of Streptococcus agalactiae and, unexpectedly, the anaerobes Gardnerella vaginalis and Prevotella bivia in more than half of the AV samples studied. Yet, despite increased relative abundance of these potential pathogens or pathobionts in the AV bacterial communities, the AV samples only slightly stimulated Toll-like receptor 4 and showed reduced activation of Toll-like receptor 2/6, receptors of two pathways central to mucosal immunity. AV samples showed reduced absolute abundances of bacteria in general and specifically of lactobacilli by qPCR, but 16S rRNA gene sequencing and amplicon sequence variant analysis revealed that Lactobacillus remained the dominant taxon in 25% of the AV samples studied. The other AV samples showed high relative abundances of Streptococcus agalactiae and, unexpectedly, the anaerobes Gardnerella vaginalis and Prevotella bivia in more than half of the AV samples studied. Yet, despite increased relative abundance of these potential pathogens or pathobionts in the AV bacterial communities, the AV samples only slightly stimulated Toll-like receptor 4 and showed reduced activation of Toll-like receptor 2/6, receptors of two pathways central to mucosal immunity.   • COVID-19 is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which was first reported in Wuhan, China in December 2019, and is ongoing pandemic. While a majority of patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection shows asymptomatic or mild disease, hospitalized patients can develop critical condition, such as pneumonia, sepsis, and respiratory failure. Some cases deteriorate into sever systemic disease and multiorgan failure. Many patients of severe COVID-19 show hypercoagulable state and complicate with venous thromboembolism and atrial thrombosis. We herein reported a case of COVID-19 who developed cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) co-incidence with pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE). A 56-year-old Japanese man was presented with fever and malaise and diagnosed with COVID-19. He was treated with ciclesonide and azithromycin, but his respiratory condition deteriorated. Thus, systemic corticosteroids and favipiravir were initiated and these treatments resulted in afebrile state, improving malaise and respiratory failure. However, he suddenly developed severe headache and vomiting with increased concentration of D-dimer. Brain CT and MRI showed typical images of CVT in the left transvers sinus and CT pulmonary angiography showed PE. A comprehensive infectious workup revealed positive severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) antibodies, and a pro-inflammatory laboratory profile characteristic of COVID-19 infection. His symptoms resolved and the brain MRI findings completely normalized on repeat imaging, consistent with MERS. This case suggests that MERS may manifest as an autoimmune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection and should be considered in a patient with evidence of recent COVID-19 infection and the characteristic MERS clinico-radiological syndrome.Pilocytic astrocytomas are World Health Organisation (WHO) grade I tumors, occurring predominantly supratentorially and in the pediatric population. However, the application mode and task selection of nTMS are not standardized. The aim of this study was to assessed the necessity and validity of multitask nTMS language mapping by comparing results with extraoperative electrical cortical stimulation (eoECS). In this study, sixteen epilepsy surgery patients were examined by nTMS and eoECS language mapping, and the two results were compared. The mapping results were validated with pre- to postoperative language assessments. Compared with eoECS, nTMS showed the overall sensitivity of 82.4%, specificity of 95.1%, positive predictive value of 66.7%, and negative predictive value of 97.8%. Spontaneous speech was the most sensitive task in the frontal area, naming was the sensitive task in both frontal and temporal areas. The false responses were mainly located in the perisylvian region. Multitask nTMS helps to reduce missing language relevant cortex preoperatively. Selecting spontaneous speech and naming tasks in frontal area, comprehension and naming tasks in temporal and posterior language area would strike the balance between the validity and efficiency of the mapping procedure. These results manifested the necessity of applying multitask in nTMS language mapping. Our study highlighted the importance of the nTMS evaluation mode and task selection for epilepsy patients.

  • A taxonomic study was carried out on strain C16B3T, which was isolated from deep seawater of the Pacific Ocean. The bacterium was Gram-stain-negative, oxidase- and catalase- positive and rod-shaped. Growth was observed at salinities of 0-8.0 % and at temperatures of 10-45 °C. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain C16B3T belonged to the genus Solimonas, with the highest sequence similarity to Solimonas terrae KIS83-12T (97.2 %), followed by Solimonas variicoloris MN28T (97.0 %) and the other four species of the genus Solimonas (94.5 -96.8 %). The average nucleotide identity and estimated DNA-DNA hybridization values between strain C16B3T and the type strains of the genus Solimonas were 74.05-79.48 % and 19.5-22.5 %, respectively. The principal fatty acids (>5 %) were summed feature 8 (C18  1 ω7c/C18  1 ω6c; 20.9 %), iso-C16  0 (14.6 %), C16  1 ω5c (9.4 %), iso-C12  0 (8.4 %), summed feature 2 (C14  0 3-OH/iso I-C16  1 and C12  0 aldehyde; 6.8 %) and C16  0 (5.5 %). The G+C content of the chromosomal DNA was 65.37 mol%. The respiratory quinone was determined to be Q-8 (100 %). The polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, four unidentified aminolipids, six unidentified phospholipids and one unidentified polar lipid. A yellow pigment spot was visible after chromatographic analysis. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-6. The G+C content of the two genomes was 34 mol% and their size was around 5.8 Mb. Average nucleotide identity values of YIM 121974T to its closest phylogenetic neighbours were 70.7-88.9 %, which are lower than the threshold of 95 %. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between YIM 121974T and these relative species were 18.0-36.3 %, which are also well below the cut-off value (>70 %) for species delineation. The DNA G+C content of strain YIM 121974T was 72.3 mol% (draft genome sequence). The predominant menaquinone was MK-11. The phospholipids were composed of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol mannoside, phosphoglycolipid and glycolipid. The major fatty acid compositions were iso-C16  0, anteiso-C15  0 and anteiso-C17  0. The draft genome of isolate YIM 121974T was found to contain 11 secondary metabolite biosynthesis gene clusters by using the antiSMASH server. Based on the above observations, strain YIM 121974T could be distinguished from closely related species belonging to the genus Glycomyces. Thus, strain YIM 121974T represents a novel species of the genus Glycomyces, for which the name Glycomyces terrestris sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM 121974T (=KCTC 39870T=DSM 106742T).In vivo biofilms cause recalcitrant infections with extensive and unpredictable antibiotic tolerance. Here, we demonstrate increased tolerance of colistin by Pseudomonas aeruginosa when grown in medium that mimics cystic fibrosis (CF) sputum versus standard medium in in vitro biofilm assays, and drastically increased tolerance when grown in an ex vivo CF model versus the in vitro assay. We used colistin conjugated to the fluorescent dye BODIPY to assess the penetration of the antibiotic into ex vivo biofilms and showed that poor penetration partly explains the high doses of drug necessary to kill bacteria in these biofilms. The ability of antibiotics to penetrate the biofilm matrix is key to their clinical success, but hard to measure. Classification using a polyphasic approach suggested that strain YIM 121974T belonged to the genus Glycomyces and was closely related to Glycomyces dulcitolivorans SJ-25T (98.3 %), Glycomyces scopariae YIM 56256T (98 %), Glycomyces mayteni YIM 61331T (97.9 %), Glycomyces albidus NEAU-7082T (97.9 %), Glycomyces sambucus CGMCC 4.3147T (97.7 %), Glycomyces artemisiae IXS4T (97.6 %) and Glycomyces parisis CPCC 204357T (97.5 %), but could be distinguished from its closest relatives by a combination of phenotypic and phylogenetic features. Average nucleotide identity values of YIM 121974T to its closest phylogenetic neighbours were 70.7-88.9 %, which are lower than the threshold of 95 %. The digital DNA-DNA hybridization values between YIM 121974T and these relative species were 18.0-36.3 %, which are also well below the cut-off value (>70 %) for species delineation. The DNA G+C content of strain YIM 121974T was 72.3 mol% (draft genome sequence). The predominant menaquinone was MK-11. The phospholipids were composed of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol mannoside, phosphoglycolipid and glycolipid. The major fatty acid compositions were iso-C16  0, anteiso-C15  0 and anteiso-C17  0. The draft genome of isolate YIM 121974T was found to contain 11 secondary metabolite biosynthesis gene clusters by using the antiSMASH server. Based on the above observations, strain YIM 121974T could be distinguished from closely related species belonging to the genus Glycomyces. Thus, strain YIM 121974T represents a novel species of the genus Glycomyces, for which the name Glycomyces terrestris sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is YIM 121974T (=KCTC 39870T=DSM 106742T).In vivo biofilms cause recalcitrant infections with extensive and unpredictable antibiotic tolerance. Here, we demonstrate increased tolerance of colistin by Pseudomonas aeruginosa when grown in medium that mimics cystic fibrosis (CF) sputum versus standard medium in in vitro biofilm assays, and drastically increased tolerance when grown in an ex vivo CF model versus the in vitro assay. We used colistin conjugated to the fluorescent dye BODIPY to assess the penetration of the antibiotic into ex vivo biofilms and showed that poor penetration partly explains the high doses of drug necessary to kill bacteria in these biofilms. The ability of antibiotics to penetrate the biofilm matrix is key to their clinical success, but hard to measure.
