Out of 55 eligible studies, two studies were included in our review. The WTA/WTP ratio ranged from 2.58 for discontinuing water fluoridation to 5.12 for mandibular implant overdentures, indicating a higher disparity for implant rehabilitations than for dental public health interventions. A WTA-WTP disparity inflates the cost-effectiveness of dental interventions when there is a substantial risk of both lower costs and health outcomes. We therefore recommend that in these cases the results of cost-effectiveness analyses are reported using different WTA/WTP ratios in a sensitivity analysis.This study introduces a noninvasive wearable system for investigating tendon loading patterns during outdoor locomotion on variable terrain. Our wearable tensiometry system uses a battery-operated piezoelectric actuator to induce micron-scale shear waves in a tendon. A data logger monitors wave propagation by recording from two miniature accelerometers mounted on the skin above the tendon. Wave speed is determined from the wave travel time between accelerometers. The wearable system was used to record Achilles tendon wave speed at 100 Hz during 1-km outdoor walking trials in nine young adults. Inertial measurement units (IMUs) simultaneously monitored participant position, walking speed, and ground incline. An analysis of 5108 walking strides revealed the coupled biomechanical effects of terrain slope and walking speed on tendon loading. Uphill slopes increased the tendon wave speed during push-off, whereas downhill slopes increased tendon wave speeds during early stance braking. Walking speed significantly modulated peak tendon wave speed on uphill slopes but had less influence on downhill slopes. Walking speed consistently induced greater early stance wave speeds for all slopes. These observations demonstrate that wearable shear wave tensiometry holds promise for evaluating tendon tissue kinetics in natural environments and uncontrolled movements. Longissimus thoracis et lumborum muscle of all lambs were collected for analysis of intramuscular fat, fatty acids, amino acids, and volatile compounds. The results showed Tan and Hu accumulated more intramuscular fat and saturated fatty acid than Dorper. However, Tan had lower linoleic acid, alpha linolenic acid and total polyunsaturated fatty acid proportion than Dorper. Amino acid in Dorper was significantly higher than Tan and Hu. Furthermore, (E)-2-hexenal was only found in Tan lambs, while (E)-2-nonenal and (E,E)-2,4-nonadienal were only found in Dorper lambs. Hu had the fewest volatile compounds. The results of this study demonstrated that Dorper had larger proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), amino acid and volatile compounds than Tan and Hu.

  • The aims of the study were (i) to describe the work integration after retirement in elite athletes, (ii) to compare the working integration of women and men, and Olympic and non-Olympic athletes, and (iii) to specify the factors that affect their employment status and current monthly income. A total of 476 former elite athletes were surveyed. Non-parametric statistics were applied to compare the differences between groups and a classification tree analysis was performed for the dependent variables. The former elite athlete's unemployment rate was better than the general population. At the gender comparison, a wage gap appeared between women and men. At the comparison between Olympic and non-Olympic athletes, the link to first employment differed in both groups. In the prediction models, finishing higher education arose as a key factor of the working status and the monthly salary. Among those without higher education studies, planning arose as a factor determining their salary, while among those with high qualifications, gender was the key factor. This study supports the importance of a holistic view of athletic career development and it offers practical insights into the process of reaching first employment after retirement.Ex vivo human peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) systems offer the possibility to test transcriptomic effects of food bioactive compounds with potential health effects. We investigated all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) effect on mRNA expression of key lipid metabolism and inflammatory genes in PBMCs from normal-weight (NW) and overweight-obese (OW-OB) men with different metabolic syndrome-related features. PBMCs were incubated with 10 µM ATRA and mRNA levels of selected genes were analyzed using real-time RT-qPCR. Human ex vivo PBMCs responded to ATRA treatment, but the response for some genes was dependent on body mass index (BMI), with a lower response in PBMC from OW-OB than from NW donors. Moreover, gene expression response was affected by circulating high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol levels. Particularly, the response to ATRA of CPT1A, previously reported as a sensitive metabolic risk predictive biomarker, was dependent on HDL levels and not on BMI, being impaired in those individuals with lower HDL levels, specifically in OW-OB. Thus, PBMCs' insensitivity to ATRA, which can be considered as indicative of impaired metabolism, was observed in individuals with higher metabolic risk (OW-OB with low HDL levels). In conclusion, an ex vivo human PBMC system indicates that ATRA response could be influenced by metabolic syndrome features. However, the roles of E6AP in non-viral cancers remain poorly defined. It is well established that loss-of-function alterations of the UBE3A gene cause Angelman syndrome, a severe neurodevelopmental disorder with autosomal dominant inheritance modified by genomic imprinting on chromosome 15q. Moreover, excess dosage of the UBE3A gene markedly increases the penetrance of autism spectrum disorders, suggesting that the expression level of UBE3A must be regulated tightly within a physiologically tolerated range during brain development. In this review, current the knowledge about the substrates of E6AP-mediated ubiquitination and their functions in cancer and neurological disorders is discussed, alongside with the ongoing efforts to pharmacologically modulate this ubiquitin ligase as a promising therapeutic target.Some studies have shown that silicon dioxide nanoparticles (SiO2-NPs) can reach different regions of the brain and cause toxicity; however, the consequences of SiO2-NPs exposure on the diverse brain cell lineages is limited. We aimed to investigate the neurotoxic effects of SiO2-NP (0-100 µg/mL) on rat astrocyte-rich cultures or neuron-rich cultures using scanning electron microscopy, Attenuated Total Reflection-Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), FTIR microspectroscopy mapping (IQ mapping), and cell viability tests. SiO2-NPs were amorphous particles and aggregated in saline and culture media. Both astrocytes and neurons treated with SiO2-NPs showed alterations in cell morphology and changes in the IR spectral regions corresponding to nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids. The analysis by the second derivative revealed a significant decrease in the signal of the amide I (α-helix, parallel β-strand, and random coil) at the concentration of 10 µg/mL in astrocytes but not in neurons. IQ mapping confirmed changes in nucleic acids, proteins, and lipids in astrocytes; cell death was higher in astrocytes than in neurons (10-100 µg/mL). We conclude that astrocytes were more vulnerable than neurons to SiO2-NPs toxicity. The application of molecular profiling techniques, together with animal model systems and engineered cell-lines has enabled the identification of a series of potential bone-metastasis biomarker molecules predictive of bone metastasis risk. Some of these biomarker candidates have been validated within patient-derived samples providing a step towards clinical utility. Recent developments in multiplex biomarker quantification now enable the simultaneous measurement of up to 96 micro-RNA/protein molecules in a spatially defined manner with single-cell resolution, thus enabling the characterisation of the key molecules active at the sites of pre-metastatic niche formation as well as tumour-stroma signalling.

    Rational antibiotic prescribing is crucial to combat antibiotic resistance. Optimal strategies to improve antibiotic use are not known. Strama, the Swedish strategic program against antibiotic resistance, has been successful in reducing antibiotic prescription rates. This study investigates whether two specific interventions directed toward healthcare centers, an informational visit and a self-evaluation meeting, played a role in observed reduction in rates of antibiotic prescriptions in primary healthcare.

    The study was a retrospective, observational, empirical analysis exploiting the variation in the timing of the interventions and considering past prescriptions through use of estimations from dynamic panel data models. Primary healthcare data from 2011 to 2014 were examined.     To compare the efficacy of conventional interlaminar fenestration discectomy (IFD) with transforaminal endoscopic lumbar discectomy (TELD) for treating lumbar disc herniation (LDH).

    The clinical data of 1100 patients who had been diagnosed with LDH between January 2012 and December 2017 were retrospectively analysed. IFD was performed on 605 patients in Group A, whereas TELD was performed on 505 patients in Group B. The Oswestry Disability Index, Visual Analogue Scale for pain and modified MacNab criteria were used to evaluate the outcomes. The surgery duration, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative off-bed activity and postoperative length of hospital stay were recorded.

    The follow-up period ranged from 24 to 60 months, with an average of 43 months. The excellent and good outcome rates were 93.5% in Group A and 92.6% in Group B.   • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has one of the highest 30-day hospital readmission rates among chronic diseases in the United States. This quality improvement initiative developed and assessed the feasibility of a multidisciplinary post-discharge intervention to reduce 30-day readmission rates among SLE patients.

    A retrospective study was performed using electronic health records of patients with SLE admitted to a university hospital prior to (non-intervention group) and after initiation of the study intervention (intervention group). The study population included patients with a diagnosis of SLE who were admitted to the hospital for any reason during an eight month time period. The intervention involved sending a templated message at the time of discharge to the rheumatology clinic nurses which prompted the nurses to call the patient to coordinate future visits and provide education. The primary outcome was the 30-day hospital readmission rate. Data was analyzed using a multivariate mixed binomial regmission rates among SLE patients.Metal-containing nanoparticles (M-NPs) in metal/nitrogen-doped carbon (M-N-C) catalysts have been considered hostile to the acidic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The relation between M-NPs and the active sites of metal coordinated with nitrogen (MNx ) is hard to establish in acid medium owing to the poor stability of M-NPs. Herein, we develop a strategy to successfully construct a new FeCo-N-C catalyst containing highly active M-NPs and MN4 composite sites (M/FeCo-SAs-N-C).     Therapeutic exercise is a recommended first-line treatment for people with knee and hip osteoarthritis. However, there is little specific advice or practical resources to guide clinicians in its implementation. As the first in a series of projects by the Osteoarthritis Research Society International Rehabilitation Discussion Group to address this gap, we aim to synthesize current literature informing the implementation of therapeutic exercise for people with knee and hip osteoarthritis.

Numerous types of therapeutic exercise (including aerobic, strengthening, neuromuscular, mind-body exercise) may be utilised at varying doses and in different settings to improve pain and function. Benefits from therapeutic exercise appear greater when dosage recommendations from general exercise guidelines for healthy adults are met. However, interim therapeutic exercise goals may also be useful, given that many barriers to achieving these dosages exist among this patient group. Theoretically-informed strategies to improve adherence to therapeutic exercise, such as patient education, goal setting, monitoring and feedback, may help maintain participation and optimise clinical benefits over the longer-term. Sedentary behaviour is also a risk factor for disability and lower quality of life in people with knee and hip osteoarthritis, although limited evidence exists regarding how best to reduce this behaviour.

    To assess the interchangeability of the Health Assessment Questionnaire-Disability Index (HAQ-DI) with the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System-Physical Function (PROMIS-PF) in the calculation of minimal disease activity (MDA) in psoriatic arthritis (PsA).

    Comprehensive PsA disease activity was collected concomitantly with HAQ-DI and PROMIS-PF measures in a PsA cohort. PROMIS-based MDA definitions were built using the existing cross-walk between the scores HAQ-DI≤0.5 equivalent to a PROMIS-PF Tscore≥41.3. We assessed agreement between MDA (MDA HAQ-DI) and PROMIS-PF MDA definitions (MDA PROMIS-PF4a, MDA PROMIS-PF Bank) at each visit and longitudinally (MDA state changes between consecutive visits) through the kappa statistic. The predictive value of MDA PROMIS-PF for MDA HAQ-DI was assessed using ROC curve analysis.

    One hundred participants contributed 352 observations with up to five visits. Mean (SD) age was 52 (12) years, 60% were female, and 43% were in MDA at baseline. Kappa statistic for PROMIS-PF based MDA reflected excellent agreement with HAQ-DI MDA kappa=0.94 (95% CI 0.90-0.97) for MDA PROMIS-PF Bank, and kappa=0.90 (95% CI 0.80-0.95) for MDAPROMIS-PF4a. Higher longitudinal agreement was seen between MDA HAQ-DI and MDA PROMIS-PF Bank versus MDA PROMIS-PF4a between consecutive visits kappa ranged between 0.81-0.94 versus 0.72-0.84, respectively. Additional analyses of variants subtypes and variant effect predictor (VEP) biotype frequencies did not reveal a decrease of pathogenic or loss-of-function (LoF) variants in ELLI and offspring compared to the control group. ACE2 downregulation affects the levels of diverse peptide mediators of the renin-agiotensin-aldestosterone and kallikrein-kinin systems, compromising vascular hemostasis. Increasing evidence suggests that the inflammatory response observed in covid-19 patients is initiated by the action of kinins on the bradykinin receptors. Accordingly, the use of bradykinin antagonists should be considered as a strategy for therapeutic intervention against covid-19 illness progression. Presently, icatibant is the only bradykinin antagonist drug approved. Moreover, we cloned four key genes from BSF involved in the taurine biosynthesis pathway, 2-aminoethanethiol dioxygenase (Hiado), cysteine dioxygenase (Hicdo), cysteine sulfonate decarboxylase (Hicsad), and glutamate decarboxylase (Higad). The gene expression analysis in larvae and prepupae by qPCR showed development-specific profiles suggesting they influence the taurine content during BSF development.   • A 65-year-old Japanese man was admitted to our hospital with fever and inflammation of the right ankle. We initiated antibiotics on suspicion of cellulitis. After no clinical improvement, we performed magnetic resonance imaging, which showed a fluid collection in the flexor hallucis longus (FHL) tendon sheath. Synovial fluid analysis revealed monosodium uric crystals. Final diagnosis was FHL tendonitis secondary to gout proven by synovial fluid analysis. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of FHL tendonitis caused by gout. We hypothesized that foot orthoses could increase the gait distance and attenuate the post-6MWT posture alterations already reported in healthy individuals. METHODS In ten normal-weight (NW) and ten obese patients with foot malalignment and/or abnormal foot arch, we examined the benefits of 4 weeks of custom-molded orthosis intervention (D30) on 6MWT gait distance, fatigue sensation scores, ankle plantarflexion force, and post-6MWT sway of the center of pressure (COP) measured by a pedobarographic platform. The term fracture liaison services (FLS) refers to models of care with the designated responsibility of comprehensive fracture management, including the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. Although there is evidence of the effectiveness of FLS in reducing health-care costs and improving patient outcomes, podiatric practitioners are notably absent from described FLS models. In this context, photodynamic therapy could be a useful tool to treat infected wounds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of repeated applications of a phthalocyanine derivative (RLP068) on the bacterial load and on the healing process. METHODS The present analysis was performed on patients with clinically infected ulcers who had been treated with RLP068. A sample for microbiological culture was collected at the first visit before and immediately after the application of RLP068 on the ulcer surface, and the area was illuminated for 8 minutes with a red light. The whole procedure was repeated three times per week at two centers (Florence and Arezzo, Italy) (sample A), and two times per week at the third center (Stuttgart, Germany) (sample B) for 2 weeks. RESULTS Sample A and sample B were composed of 55 and nine patients, respectively. In sample A, bacterial load decreased significantly after a single treatment, and the benefit persisted for 2 weeks. Similar effects of the first treatment were observed in sample B. In both samples, the ulcer area showed a significant reduction during follow-up, even in patients with ulcers infected with gram-negative germs or with exposed bone.     A 65-year-old Japanese man was admitted to our hospital with fever and inflammation of the right ankle. We initiated antibiotics on suspicion of cellulitis. After no clinical improvement, we performed magnetic resonance imaging, which showed a fluid collection in the flexor hallucis longus (FHL) tendon sheath. Synovial fluid analysis revealed monosodium uric crystals. Final diagnosis was FHL tendonitis secondary to gout proven by synovial fluid analysis. To our knowledge, this is the first case report of FHL tendonitis caused by gout. When ankle inflammation is examined in clinical situations, FHL tendonitis caused by gout should be considered.Podiatric Physicians have an ethical obligation to prescribe responsibly and cautiously to diminish and minimize the growth of drug adverse effects. The safe and appropriate selection of medications and prescribing strategies are presented. First, the concept and process for these FDA black box warnings are introduced. Then, to enrich the podiatric physician's body of knowledge, several FDA boxed warnings from 27 selected drug products that may be prescribed by podiatric physicians are presented graphically as a table. However, the effects of foot orthoses on the daily ambulatory activities explored by the Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) were never examined. We hypothesized that foot orthoses could increase the gait distance and attenuate the post-6MWT posture alterations already reported in healthy individuals. METHODS In ten normal-weight (NW) and ten obese patients with foot malalignment and/or abnormal foot arch, we examined the benefits of 4 weeks of custom-molded orthosis intervention (D30) on 6MWT gait distance, fatigue sensation scores, ankle plantarflexion force, and post-6MWT sway of the center of pressure (COP) measured by a pedobarographic platform. The clinical performance of the LFSM assay for the detection of SARS-Cov-2 was evaluated using 162 clinical samples previously detected by using the commercial assay. The percent positive agreement, percent negative agreement, and overall percent agreement of the LFSM assay with the commercial assay were 100% (94.2-100%), 99.0% (94.6-100%), and 99.4% (96.6-100%), respectively. In this review, we introduce our experiences and discuss NBS programs for PD implemented in various countries.The fundamental limitations of systemic therapeutic administration have prompted the development of local drug delivery platforms as a solution to increase effectiveness and reduce side effects. By confining therapeutics to the site of disease, local delivery technologies can enhance therapeutic index. This review highlights recent advances and opportunities in local drug delivery strategies for cancer treatment in addition to challenges that need to be addressed to facilitate clinical translation. The benefits of local cancer treatment combined with technological advancements and increased understanding of the tumor microenvironment, present a prime breakthrough opportunity for safer and more effective therapies.Mitochondrial deregulation has gained increasing support as a pathological mechanism in Huntington's disease (HD), a genetic-based neurodegenerative disorder caused by CAG expansion in the HTT gene. In this study, we thoroughly investigated mitochondrial-based mechanisms in HD patient-derived iPSC (HD-iPSC) and differentiated neural stem cells (NSC) versus control cells, as well as in cells subjected to CRISPR/Cas9-CAG repeat deletion. We analyzed mitochondrial morphology, function and biogenesis, linked to exosomal release of mitochondrial components, glycolytic flux, ATP generation and cellular redox status. Mitochondria in HD cells exhibited round shape and fragmented morphology. Functionally, HD-iPSC and HD-NSC displayed lower mitochondrial respiration, exosomal release of cytochrome c, decreased ATP/ADP, reduced PGC-1α and complex III subunit expression and activity, and were highly dependent on glycolysis, supported by pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) inactivation. HD-iPSC and HD-NSC mitochondria showed ATP synthase reversal and increased calcium retention. Enhanced mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) were also observed in HD-iPSC and HD-NSC, along with decreased UCP2 mRNA levels. Evidences were obtained using immunoblotting, coimmunoprecipitation, confocal microscopy, immunocytochemistry, ELISA, and flow cytometry. Results had revealed that TLR3 ligand treatment significantly enhanced breast cancer cell proliferation marked by an upregulated expression of cyclinD1, but the same was suppressed by the addition of MyD88 inhibitor. Also, expression of interleukin 1 receptor-associated kinase 1 (IRAK1)-TNF receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6)-transforming growth factor beta-activated kinase 1 (TAK1) was altered in the given TLR3-signaling pathway. In this study, we thoroughly investigated mitochondrial-based mechanisms in HD patient-derived iPSC (HD-iPSC) and differentiated neural stem cells (NSC) versus control cells, as well as in cells subjected to CRISPR/Cas9-CAG repeat deletion. We analyzed mitochondrial morphology, function and biogenesis, linked to exosomal release of mitochondrial components, glycolytic flux, ATP generation and cellular redox status. Mitochondria in HD cells exhibited round shape and fragmented morphology. Functionally, HD-iPSC and HD-NSC displayed lower mitochondrial respiration, exosomal release of cytochrome c, decreased ATP/ADP, reduced PGC-1α and complex III subunit expression and activity, and were highly dependent on glycolysis, supported by pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) inactivation. HD-iPSC and HD-NSC mitochondria showed ATP synthase reversal and increased calcium retention. Mechanical, microstructural, and durability of the reinforced mortar were investigated by various tests in different hydration periods (7, 28, and 90 days). Additionally, the piezoresistivity behavior of specimens was also evaluated by the four-probe method under flexural and compression cyclic loading. Results demonstrated that hybrid CNT + GNP can significantly improve mechanical and microstructural properties of cementitious composite by filler function, bridging cracks, and increasing hydration rate mechanisms.

Cervical cancer is dependent on the expression of human papillomavirus (HPV) proteins, which induce an immune response. Regardless, clinical trials testing ICIs in gynecological malignancies have initially led to disappointing results. Despite durable responses in some patients, overall response rates have been dismal. Nevertheless, in recent years, with the development of better predictive tumor biomarkers, such as microsatellite instability for endometrial cancer and programmed death ligand 1 for cervical cancer, ICIs have found their way into routine treatments for patients with advanced-stage disease. ICI-based combinations, although adding toxicity, have further improved response rates, and new combinations are currently being tested in clinical trials, as are other immunotherapy modalities, such as adoptive cell transfer and HPV-based vaccines. This review summarizes current clinical evidence supporting the use of immunotherapy in gynecological malignancies and describes studies in progress, with a focus on ICIs and predictive response biomarkers.
    We conducted the study to investigate the relationship between anogenital distance (AGD) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) related lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).

    From May 2018 to January 2020, 220 subjects 110 men with BPH-related LUTS (BPH-LUTS group) and 110 men without any urination complaints (control group) were selected. Clinical questionnaires, detailed physical examinations, including AGD
    (distance between the anus and posterior base of the scrotum) and AGD
    (distance between the anus and upper penis) measurements, and blood tests were all assessed.

    The two groups were similar in terms of basic features (P > 0.05). The AGD
    and AGD
    in the control group were significantly shorter than the BPH-LUTS group (P < 0.001). Adjusted multivariate analyses showed that AGD
    was significantly related to International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), post-voiding residual volume (PVR), total prostate volume (TPV) and maximum urine flow rate (Q
    ) (P = 0.002, P = 0.009, P = 0.001, P = 0.028, respectively). However, the associations between AGD
    and IPSS score, PVR, TPV, Q
    and total testosterone (TT) were all negligible (P > 0.05 for all). The associations between TT and BPH-LUTS related evaluations were also negligible (P > 0.05 for all). Furthermore, the study revealed that the AGD
    cut-off values for mild, moderate, and severe symptom (based on IPSS score) in BPH-LUTS cases were 27.4mm and 46.8mm [area under curve (AUC) 0.802 and AUC 0.779, respectively], respectively.

    Our aim was to evaluate clinical and neurological effects of common carotid artery (CCA) true lumen flow impairment or occlusion in patients with type A aortic dissection.

    Characteristics and imaging data of patients with dissected CCA secondary to acute type A aortic dissection from 3 institutions were analysed. We defined true lumen blood flow as unimpaired when the maximum true lumen diameter exceeded 50% of the complete CCA diameter, as impaired when the true lumen was compressed to ˃50% of the complete lumen, or as occluded.

    Out of 440 patients, 207 presented unimpaired CCA flow, 172 impaired CCA flow and CCA occlusion was present in 61 patients. Preoperative shock (P = 0.045) or a neurological deficit (P < 0.001) were least common in patients with unimpaired CCA flow and most common in those with CCA occlusion. Non-cerebral, other-organ malperfusion was common in 37% of all patients, but the incidence was similar (P = 0.69). Neisseria weaveri and N. zoodegmatis could be detected in both hosts. Neisseria dumasiana and N. canis were isolated from dogs, while N. shayeganii only from a cat. For phylogenetic analysis, rpoB gene sequencing was performed, where the strains were on monophyletic branches and clearly separated from each other. In this study, recently described species such as F. canicola, N. shayeganii and N. dumasiana were detected that had never been isolated in Hungary before.

Cervical cancer is dependent on the expression of human papillomavirus (HPV) proteins, which induce an immune response. Regardless, clinical trials testing ICIs in gynecological malignancies have initially led to disappointing results. Despite durable responses in some patients, overall response rates have been dismal. Nevertheless, in recent years, with the development of better predictive tumor biomarkers, such as microsatellite instability for endometrial cancer and programmed death ligand 1 for cervical cancer, ICIs have found their way into routine treatments for patients with advanced-stage disease. ICI-based combinations, although adding toxicity, have further improved response rates, and new combinations are currently being tested in clinical trials, as are other immunotherapy modalities, such as adoptive cell transfer and HPV-based vaccines. This review summarizes current clinical evidence supporting the use of immunotherapy in gynecological malignancies and describes studies in progress, with a focus on ICIs and predictive response biomarkers. We conducted the study to investigate the relationship between anogenital distance (AGD) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) related lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). From May 2018 to January 2020, 220 subjects 110 men with BPH-related LUTS (BPH-LUTS group) and 110 men without any urination complaints (control group) were selected. Clinical questionnaires, detailed physical examinations, including AGD (distance between the anus and posterior base of the scrotum) and AGD (distance between the anus and upper penis) measurements, and blood tests were all assessed. The two groups were similar in terms of basic features (P > 0.05). The AGD and AGD in the control group were significantly shorter than the BPH-LUTS group (P < 0.001). Adjusted multivariate analyses showed that AGD was significantly related to International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), post-voiding residual volume (PVR), total prostate volume (TPV) and maximum urine flow rate (Q ) (P = 0.002, P = 0.009, P = 0.001, P = 0.028, respectively). However, the associations between AGD and IPSS score, PVR, TPV, Q and total testosterone (TT) were all negligible (P > 0.05 for all). The associations between TT and BPH-LUTS related evaluations were also negligible (P > 0.05 for all). Furthermore, the study revealed that the AGD cut-off values for mild, moderate, and severe symptom (based on IPSS score) in BPH-LUTS cases were 27.4mm and 46.8mm [area under curve (AUC) 0.802 and AUC 0.779, respectively], respectively. Longer AGD was related to more severe BPH related symptoms. It may be useful to consider AGD as a marker for BPH-LUTS. Our aim was to evaluate clinical and neurological effects of common carotid artery (CCA) true lumen flow impairment or occlusion in patients with type A aortic dissection. Characteristics and imaging data of patients with dissected CCA secondary to acute type A aortic dissection from 3 institutions were analysed. We defined true lumen blood flow as unimpaired when the maximum true lumen diameter exceeded 50% of the complete CCA diameter, as impaired when the true lumen was compressed to ˃50% of the complete lumen, or as occluded. Out of 440 patients, 207 presented unimpaired CCA flow, 172 impaired CCA flow and CCA occlusion was present in 61 patients. Preoperative shock (P = 0.045) or a neurological deficit (P < 0.001) were least common in patients with unimpaired CCA flow and most common in those with CCA occlusion. Non-cerebral, other-organ malperfusion was common in 37% of all patients, but the incidence was similar (P = 0.69). In patients with CCA occlusion, postoperative stroke (P < 0.001) ant or occlusion.The occurrence of members of the Pasteurellaceae and Neisseriaceae families was studied in dogs and cats. A total of 110 nasal and pharyngeal swab samples from 47 dogs and 8 cats were collected. Most of the strains were identified by 16S rDNA sequencing, except Frederiksenia canicola and Pasteurella multocida where species-specific polymerase chain reactions were applied. The most frequently isolated species was F. canicola, which occurred only in dogs, mainly in the pharyngeal cavity. The second commonest bacterium, P. multocida was found in both types of samples and in both hosts. Other species from the family Pasteurellaceae, such as Haemophilus haemoglobinophilus, Pasteurella canis and P. dagmatis, were detected only in dogs. All isolated species belonging to the family Neisseriaceae, mainly representing Neisseria weaveri, were found only in the pharyngeal cavity. Neisseria weaveri and N. zoodegmatis could be detected in both hosts. Neisseria dumasiana and N. canis were isolated from dogs, while N. shayeganii only from a cat. For phylogenetic analysis, rpoB gene sequencing was performed, where the strains were on monophyletic branches and clearly separated from each other. In this study, recently described species such as F. canicola, N. shayeganii and N. dumasiana were detected that had never been isolated in Hungary before.
