  • The intermediate-term effects of dietary protein on cardiometabolic risk factors in overweight and obese patients with heart failure and diabetes mellitus are unknown. We compared the effect of two calorie-restricted diets on cardiometabolic risk factors in this population.

    In this randomized controlled study, 76 overweight and obese (mean weight, 107.8±20.8kg) patients aged 57.7±9.7years, 72.4% male, were randomized to a high-protein (30% protein, 40% carbohydrates, and 30% fat) or standard-protein diet (15% protein, 55% carbohydrates, and 30% fat) for 3months. Reductions in weight and cardiometabolic risks were evaluated at 3months. Both diets were equally effective in reducing weight (3.6 vs. 2.9kg) and waist circumference (1.9 vs. 1.3cm), but the high-protein diet decreased to a greater extent glycosylated haemoglobin levels (0.7% vs. 0.1%, P=0.002), cholesterol (16.8 vs. 0.9mg/dL, P=0.031), and triglyceride (25.7 vs. 5.7mg/dL, P=0.032), when compared with the standard-protein diet. The high-protein diet also significantly improved both systolic and diastolic blood pressure than the standard-protein diet (P<0.001 and P=0.040, respectively).

    To present the prevalence of tonsillitis in synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis and osteitis (SAPHO) patients, to compare the clinical characteristics and disease activities between SAPHO patients with and without tonsillitis and to preliminarily explore the efficacy of tonsillectomy in SAPHO syndrome.

    A total of 58 SAPHO patients were included. Clinical data were collected, including demographic characteristics and acute phase reactants (erythrocyte sedimentation rate, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein). The visual analog scale (VAS), Palmoplantar Pustule Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PPPASI) and Nail Psoriasis Severity Index (NAPSI) were used to measure the severity of bone pain, skin lesions and nail lesions, respectively. Patients were referred to the otolaryngology department for tonsil examinations, including tonsil hypertrophy (grade≥2), chronic congestion, inflammatory secretion and tonsil stones. The patients who underwent tonsillectomy were followed up after the surgery.

    A total of 67.2% of patients had tonsillitis. Patients with tonsillitis had markedly higher PPPASI (1.2 [0, 7.4] vs. 7.6 [1.75, 15.5], P=.018) and NAPSI (0 [0, 21] vs. 8 [3, 28], P=.032) scores. After tonsillectomy, the patients experienced significantly improved bone pain (VAS, 5 [4, 7] vs. 3 [1, 4], P=.034) and skin lesions (PPPASI, 16.2 [7.05, 18.35] vs 1.8 [0.7, 3.7], P=.028).

  • The emergence of multi-drug-resistant (MDR) micro-organisms prompted new interest in older antibiotics, such as colistin, that had been abandoned previously due to limited efficacy or high toxicity. Over the years, several chromosomal-encoded colistin resistance mechanisms have been described; more recently, 10 plasmid-mediated mobile colistin resistance (mcr) genes have been identified. Spread of these genes among MDR Gram-negative bacteria is a matter of serious concern; therefore, reliable and timely mcr detection is paramount.

    To design and validate a multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for detection and differentiation of mcr genes.

    All available mcr alleles were downloaded from the National Center for Biotechnology Information Reference Gene Catalogue, aligned with Clustal Omega and primers designed using Primer-BLAST. Real-time PCR monoplexes were optimized and validated using a panel of 120 characterized Gram-negative strains carrying a wide range of resistance genes, oftenlaboratories would aid the surveillance of mcr genes amongst Gram-negative bacteria.Liver is the central metabolic hub that coordinates carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. The bioactive derivative of vitamin A, retinoic acid (RA) was shown to regulate major metabolic genes including phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, fatty acid synthase, carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1, and glucokinase among others. Expression levels of these genes undergo profound changes during adaptation to fasting, or in metabolic diseases such as type 1 diabetes (T1D). However, it is unknown whether the levels of hepatic RA change during metabolic remodeling. This study investigated the dynamics of hepatic retinoid metabolism and signaling in the fed state, in fasting, and in T1D. Our results show that fed-to-fasted transition is associated with significant decrease in hepatic retinol dehydrogenase (RDH) activity, the rate-limiting step in RA biosynthesis, and downregulation of RA signaling. The decrease in RDH activity correlates with the decreased abundance and altered subcellular distribution of RDH10 while Rdh10 transcript levels remain unchanged. In contrast to fasting, untreated T1D is associated with upregulation of RA signaling and an increase in hepatic RDH activity, which correlates with the increased abundance of RDH10 in microsomal membranes. Accordingly, the drug analogs of PtdCho are broadly ineffective in the parasite culture. NBD-PtdSer imported to the parasite interior is decarboxylated to NBD-PtdEtn, while the latter is not methylated to yield PtdCho, confirming the expression of PtdSer decarboxylase but the lack of PtdEtn methyltransferase activity, and suggesting a role of exogenous lipids in membrane biogenesis of T. gondii. Flow cytometric quantitation of NBD-probes endorsed the selectivity of phospholipid transport and revealed a dependence of the process on energy and protein. Accordingly, our further work identified five P4-ATPases (TgP4-ATPase1-5), all of which harbor the signature residues and motifs required for phospholipid flipping. Of the four proteins expressed during the lytic cycle, TgP4-ATPase1 is present in the apical plasmalemma, and TgP4-ATPase3 resides in the Golgi network along with its noncatalytic partner ligand effector module 3 (TgLem3), whereas TgP4-ATPase2 and TgP4-ATPase 5 localize in the plasmalemma as well as endo/cytomembranes. Additionally, auxin-induced degradation of TgP4-ATPase1-3 impaired the parasite growth in human host cells, disclosing their crucial roles in T. gondii. Nonconservative mutations in the trimer interface of MA (A45E, T70R, and L75G) were found to impair Env incorporation and infectivity, leading to the hypothesis that MA trimerization is an obligatory step for Env incorporation. Conversely, Env incorporation can be rescued by a compensatory mutation in the MA trimer interface (Q63R). The impact of these MA mutations on the structure and trimerization properties of MA is not known. In this study, we employed NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, and sedimentation techniques to characterize the structure and trimerization properties of HIV-1 MA A45E, Q63R, T70R, and L75G mutant proteins. NMR data revealed that these point mutations did not alter the overall structure and folding of MA but caused minor structural perturbations in the trimer interface. Analytical ultracentrifugation data indicated that mutations had a minimal effect on the MA monomer-trimer equilibrium. The high-resolution X-ray structure of the unmyristoylated MA Q63R protein revealed hydrogen bonding between the side chains of Arg-63 and Ser-67, providing the first structural evidence for an additional intermolecular interaction in the trimer interface. Current approaches have not only focused on the development of suitable dosage forms but also the advancement of devices to enhance drug administration to pediatrics and neonates. Though current approaches have significantly added to the number of pediatric and neonatal oral dosage formulations on the market, there is still more room for improvement(s). While novel dosage forms including multiparticulates, orodispersible tablets/films, and chewable tablets have extensively been researched, some administration devices (e.g., nipple shield, pill swallowing cup, and solid dosage pen) have also been explored.     Comorbid conditions and adverse drug events are associated with poor treatment outcomes among patients with drug resistant tuberculosis (DR - TB). This study aimed at determining the treatment outcomes of DR - TB patients with poor prognostic indicators in Uganda.

    We reviewed treatment records of DR - TB patients from 16 treatment sites in Uganda. Eligible patients had confirmed DR - TB, a treatment outcome in 2014-2019 and at least one of 15 pre-defined poor prognostic indicators at treatment initiation or during therapy. The pre-defined poor prognostic indicators were HIV co-infection, diabetes, heart failure, malignancy, psychiatric illness/symptoms, severe anaemia, alcohol use, cigarette smoking, low body mass index, elevated creatinine, hepatic dysfunction, hearing loss, resistance to fluoroquinolones and/or second-line aminoglycosides, previous exposure to second-line drugs (SLDs), and pregnancy. Tuberculosis treatment outcomes were treatment success, mortality, loss to follow up, and treatment failtiple poor prognostic indicators, mortality was the most frequent unsuccessful outcomes. Every additional poor prognostic indicator increased the risk of mortality while anaemia and previous exposure to SLDs were associated with lower odds of treatment success. The management of anaemia among DR - TB patients needs to be evaluated by prospective studies. DR - TB programs should also optimise DR - TB treatment the first time it is initiated.

Determining discharge outcome of TB cases helps to understand the effectiveness of TB diagnosis effort to improve case management. The objective of this study was to assess discharge outcomes and factors associated with death among patients on TB treatment admitted in a referral hospital in southwest Ethiopia.

    A retrospective study was conducted in Jimma Medical Center by reviewing medical records of TB patients (age ≥15years) admitted to medical wards from January 2015 to December 2017. Demographic and related data was collected using data collection format. The clinical evaluation outcome of an individual patient at discharge was recorded. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize participant characteristics. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the risk factors for TB mortality.

    Among 465 patients included in the review, 225 (48.4%) were pulmonary (PTB) and 240 (51.6%) extra-pulmonary TB (EPTB) ca Medical Center. Mortality was found to be higher among unconfirmed cases, those with COPD, diabetes mellitus, heart disease and HIV infection. Thus, any effort to curtail mortality in such high TB burden setting should focus on improving TB diagnosis and addressing major comorbid medical conditions.

  • To select a microbial consortium from intertidal sludge and evaluate its ability to convert crude glycerol from biodisel to high value-added products such as 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) and lactic acid (LA).

    A microbial consortium named CJD-S was selected from intertidal sludge and exhibited excellent performance for the conversion of crude glycerol to 1,3-PDO and LA. The composition of CJD-S was determined to be 85.99% Enterobacteriaceae and 13.75% Enterococcaceae by 16S rRNA gene amplicon high-throughput sequencing. In fed-batch fermentation with crude glycerol under nonsterile conditions, the highest concentrations of 1,3-PDO and LA were 41.47g/L and 45.86g/L, respectively.

    The selected microbial consortium, CJD-S, effectively converted crude glycerol to 1,3-PDO and LA under nonsterile conditions and can contribute to the sustainable development of the biodiesel industry.

    This study aimed to investigate the effects of different fermentation conditions (culture medium, temperature, incubation time, pH value and additive) on citrinin production by four fungi.

    Among the culture media, potato dextrose medium had lowest citrinin production, followed by yeast sucrose medium and monosodium glutamate medium. The lowest citrinin contents were produced by Monascus anka (M. anka) in potato dextrose medium and yeast sucrose medium, Aspergillus oryzae AS3.042 (A. oryzae) produced the lowest citrinin production in monosodium glutamate medium. The optimum fermentation temperatures for citrinin production by Aspergillus niger (A. niger) and Penicillium citrinum (P. citrinum) were at 30 °C, whereas those by M. anka and A. oryzae were at 35 °C. Citrinin synthesis by four fungi were completely inhibited with a pH value of less than 5.4. By adding ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) or triammonium citrate into monosodium glutamate medium, citrinin production by A. oryzae and A. niger were totally inhibited. Ammonium sulfate completely inhibited citrinin production by A. oryzae, M. anka and P. citrinum, and ammonium nitrate completely inhibited citrinin production by A. oryzae.

    These results indicated that the suitable fermentation conditions could make considerable contributions to the reduction of citrinin production. This study provided an effective way for decreasing the citrinin production.

    The co-encapsulation of bioactive peptides obtained from degradation of chicken feathers and flexirubin-type pigment produced by Chryseobacterium sp. kr6 into phosphatidylcholine liposomes was investigated.

    Control empty liposomes showed mean diameter of 168.5 nm, varying to 185.4, 102.0 and 98.5 nm after the encapsulation of peptides, pigment and their co-encapsulation, respectively.     The treatment landscape for renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is rapidly evolving. The aim of this review is to summarize the randomized-controlled trials evaluating the role of immunotherapy in neoadjuvant or adjuvant setting.

    We searched PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ClinicalTrials.gov for studies including neoadjuvant or adjuvant immunotherapy, and provided a brief overview of the pharmacodynamics of immunotherapy for RCC.

    Several drugs are currently under investigation. In the neoadjuvant setting, four studies are evaluating the role of single-agent immunotherapy, one of dual-agent immunotherapy, and four studies the role of immunotherapy in combination with tyrosine kinase inhibitors or anti-interleukin-1 beta.     To select a microbial consortium from intertidal sludge and evaluate its ability to convert crude glycerol from biodisel to high value-added products such as 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PDO) and lactic acid (LA). A microbial consortium named CJD-S was selected from intertidal sludge and exhibited excellent performance for the conversion of crude glycerol to 1,3-PDO and LA. The composition of CJD-S was determined to be 85.99% Enterobacteriaceae and 13.75% Enterococcaceae by 16S rRNA gene amplicon high-throughput sequencing. In fed-batch fermentation with crude glycerol under nonsterile conditions, the highest concentrations of 1,3-PDO and LA were 41.47g/L and 45.86g/L, respectively.   • Dietary fats may affect blood lipid levels and the development of cardiovascular diseases. Offal, may contribute to food security in marginalised communities and information on the contribution to dietary fat intake is needed to inform dietary guidelines and recommendations and consumers. This study aimed to describe the fatty acid profile, cholesterol content and indexes of lipid quality. The fatty acid profile and cholesterol were determined by gas chromatography coupled with flame ionisation detection (GC-FID). To evaluate lipid quality the indices of atherogenicity (IA) and thrombogenicity (IT) were calculated. Offal products can contribute beneficial fatty acids to the diet, not only in terms of essential fatty acids such as linoleic (C182n-6) and alpha linolenic (C183n-3) acids, but also the polyunsaturated fatty acids, arachidonic (C204n-6) and eicosapentaenoic (C205n3) acids. The offal studied in the present work showed a P/S ratio of 0.04-0.12 and the n-6/n-3 ratio varied between 3.9 and 12.5.I/R (cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury) is the secondary complication of ischemic stroke patients that are immediately treated with drug thrombolysis or vascular recanalization in clinic. Additionally, the AUC value of the combined ROC of these 5 DEPs was 0.988 with P less then 0.0001, higher than every single one. Collectively, these scientific findings attributed to a typical investigation of dietary Dioscorea-enriched diosgenin in MFH research, suggesting that diosgenin or its derivatives were potential to be developed into food supplements or healthy food products to reveal healthy benefits in natural prevention and reduction risk of I/R. The patients were further characterised for their genetic anomalies and distributed to favourable, intermediate and adverse ELN risk categories. We were able to show that while 23% of our patients displayed a low level of HLA-DR surface expression, all patients displayed higher HLA-DM and CD74 expression compared to HD. However, a higher CLIP expression was noticed only in the HLA-DR low patients. The co-inhibitory PD-L2 and B7-H3 molecules were increased in the cases with normal HLA-DR expression; oppositely, the co-stimulatory ICOS-L and the dual function B7.

  • A biosimilar drug is a biological product that is highly similar to and at the same time has no clinically meaningful difference from licensed product in terms of safety, purity, and potency. Biosimilar study design is essential to demonstrate the equivalence between biosimilar drug and reference product. However, existing designs and assessment methods are primarily based on binary and continuous endpoints. We propose a Bayesian adaptive design for biosimilarity trials with time-to-event endpoint. The features of the proposed design are twofold. First, we employ the calibrated power prior to precisely borrow relevant information from historical data for the reference drug. Second, we propose a two-stage procedure using the Bayesian biosimilarity index (BBI) to allow early stop and improve the efficiency. Extensive simulations are conducted to demonstrate the operating characteristics of the proposed method in contrast with some naive method. Sensitivity analysis and extension with respect to the assumptions are presented.The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a reorganization of health systems to prioritize the fight against the virus. The adoption of social distancing interfered with the flow of existing policies, and may thus negatively affect the most vulnerable groups, such as the rare disease community. Aimming at characterizing the perception of the impact of COVID-19 on the health care of the Brazilian rare disease community, an online questionnaire addressed to patients with rare diseases and their caregivers was disseminated in the Brazilian territory between June 1st to July 5th, 2020. The questions dealt with the sanitary measures adopted; access to medical services; and mental suffering during the pandemic. The survey was answered by 1,466 participants ( less then 18 yo = 53.3%) representing 192 rare diseases. Regarding physical distancing, 1,372 (93.6%) participants did not leave their residence, or did so only when essential; 1,321 (90.1%) always wore masks when leaving home. 1,042 (71.1%) and 995 (67.9%) participants, respectively, referred medical genetics appointments and rehabilitation therapies were postponed/canceled. Telemedicine was experienced by 1,026 (70%), and 68.3% agreed this is a good strategy for health care. Patients with Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEM, n = 624, 42.5%) appear to have more access to information and ability to overcome difficulties, and feel less threatened, lonely and depressed than the non-IEM group (p  less then  .05).     This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic and prognostic role of tumor-educated leukocytes (TELs) mRNA in Chinese patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

    The TELs collected underwent total RNA isolation. RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) technology was used to analyze the transcriptome of the TELs. The mRNA expression levels of differential genes were analyzed by RT-qPCR. Statistical analyses were performed using Prism and SPSS by Mann-Whitney nonparametric test, Kruskal-Wallis test and one-way ANOVA.

    We used RNA-seq technology to screen 95 differential genes (DEGs) from seven NSCLC and four controls, wherein 15 genes were upregulated, and 80 were downregulated. Of these, four genes were selected for further analysis, wherein one was upregulated (GPX1) and three were downregulated (BCL9L, MAP3K7CL, PCSK7). RT-qPCR was performed in 431 samples (237 NSCLC, 194 healthy donors). The four-gene panel showed significant differences (p < 0.001) in the expression levels between NSCLC and healthy samples. ROC curves of the panel revealed an AUC of 0.803, with a sensitivity of 73.8% and specificity of 75.3%. GPX1, BCL9L and PCSK7 genes distinguished early-stage NSCLC patients from healthy group (p < 0.05). When the three genes were combined to diagnose early-stage NSCLC, the diagnostic efficacy was 0.772, sensitivity was 73.7%, and specificity was 72.2%. In addition, the downregulated gene BCL9L was associated with chemotherapeutic effect.

    Epidemiologic data on systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are limited, particularly for racial/ethnic subpopulations in the US. This meta-analysis leveraged data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Lupus Registry network of population-based SLE registries to estimate the overall prevalence of SLE in the US.

    The CDC National Lupus Registry network includes 4 registries from unique states and a fifth registry from the Indian Health Service. All registries defined cases of SLE according to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 1997 revised classification criteria for SLE. Case findings spanned either 2002-2004 or 2007-2009. Given the heterogeneity across sites, a random-effects model was used to calculate the pooled prevalence of SLE.     A biosimilar drug is a biological product that is highly similar to and at the same time has no clinically meaningful difference from licensed product in terms of safety, purity, and potency. Biosimilar study design is essential to demonstrate the equivalence between biosimilar drug and reference product. However, existing designs and assessment methods are primarily based on binary and continuous endpoints. We propose a Bayesian adaptive design for biosimilarity trials with time-to-event endpoint. The features of the proposed design are twofold. First, we employ the calibrated power prior to precisely borrow relevant information from historical data for the reference drug. Second, we propose a two-stage procedure using the Bayesian biosimilarity index (BBI) to allow early stop and improve the efficiency. Extensive simulations are conducted to demonstrate the operating characteristics of the proposed method in contrast with some naive method. Aimming at characterizing the perception of the impact of COVID-19 on the health care of the Brazilian rare disease community, an online questionnaire addressed to patients with rare diseases and their caregivers was disseminated in the Brazilian territory between June 1st to July 5th, 2020. The questions dealt with the sanitary measures adopted; access to medical services; and mental suffering during the pandemic. The survey was answered by 1,466 participants ( less then 18 yo = 53.3%) representing 192 rare diseases. The TELs collected underwent total RNA isolation. RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) technology was used to analyze the transcriptome of the TELs. The mRNA expression levels of differential genes were analyzed by RT-qPCR. Statistical analyses were performed using Prism and SPSS by Mann-Whitney nonparametric test, Kruskal-Wallis test and one-way ANOVA. We used RNA-seq technology to screen 95 differential genes (DEGs) from seven NSCLC and four controls, wherein 15 genes were upregulated, and 80 were downregulated. Of these, four genes were selected for further analysis, wherein one was upregulated (GPX1) and three were downregulated (BCL9L, MAP3K7CL, PCSK7). RT-qPCR was performed in 431 samples (237 NSCLC, 194 healthy donors). The four-gene panel showed significant differences (p < 0.001) in the expression levels between NSCLC and healthy samples. ROC curves of the panel revealed an AUC of 0.803, with a sensitivity of 73.8% and specificity of 75.3%. GPX1, BCL9L and PCSK7 genes distinguished early-stage NSCLC patients from healthy group (p < 0.05). When the three genes were combined to diagnose early-stage NSCLC, the diagnostic efficacy was 0.772, sensitivity was 73.7%, and specificity was 72.2%. Using several wavelet approaches, we examine the correlation between the ASEAN-5 equity markets with the daily new Covid-19 cases and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DowJones), the lead-lag relationships and level of disorder (or randomness) between the ASEAN-5 domestic equity markets and DowJones between February 15 to May 30, 2019 (pre-period) and February 15 to May 30, 2020 (during the pandemic period) respectively. The pandemic period is further divided into three different phases; the beginning (February), mid (March and April), and end (May) of the period. This study finds that Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore equity markets react to Covid-19 cases at the beginning of the pandemic phase, whereas, Thailand and the Philippines showed coherency during the mid-period. As the pandemic progresses (mid-period), all ASEAN-5 equity markets exhibited strong coherence with the DowJones Index. However, at the end of the sample period, no coherency was observed among the ASEAN-5 equity markets, local Covid-19 cases, and DowJones index. This study has two main contributions to the literature First, we provide insights on equity markets' reactions during an epidemic/pandemic crisis in the emerging markets, specifically, the ASEAN-5 countries, which is a less studied area. Second, examining the impact of the Covid-19 and DowJones Index on the ASEAN-5 equity markets using the wavelet method is a novel approach that captures both the time and frequency dimensions. The results of this study have a significant contribution to investors and regulators, particularly in navigating the new 'normal' and data-driven era.The active development of industry, primarily mining and metallurgical, as well as energy, is accompanied by significant emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere. We collected data and analyzed the intake of heavy metals (HM) of lead (Pb), copper (Cu) and arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd) in precipitation (wet deposition) on typical natural Kazakhstan ecosystems. The average Pb, Cu, As and Cd wet deposition was 3.80 ± 1.52, 16.11 ± 1.48, 0.96 ± 0.84 and 0.88 ± 0.44 μg/L, respectively, with a large variation among the different sites of Kazakhstan. In addition, we identified the most significant industrial areas in the republic and determined the concentrations of the listed metals in the precipitation for each of them. The relationship between these concentrations and industrial activity in the regions, and the presence of a mutual correlation between them were also investigated. We obtained that the atmospheric deposition of Pb, Cu and As were higher in the central industrial areas (Dzhezkazgan, Balkhash), as well as in the south (Chimkent) and in the east (Ust-Kamenogorsk), where large mining and metallurgical enterprises are located. In these cities, there are high concentrations of pollutants (PS) in the atmosphere, exceeding the maximum permissible concentrations (MPC) by several times. Significant sedimentation of pollutants, primarily HM, is noted, adversely affecting soils and surface runoff. The total deposition of heavy metals on snow cover was determined. We obtained that the average total deposition for Pb, Cu, As and Cd was 4.4 ± 1.28, 20.6 ± 1.43, 3.23 ± 0.81 and 1.03 ± 0.47 μg/L. Calculations performed for comparable time intervals showed that dry deposition is two to five times greater than wet deposition and the smaller the precipitation in the region, the greater the dry deposition, ceteris paribus. At the level of climate assessments, it is shown that there is a transboundary transfer of heavy metals from both the territory of Kazakhstan from the territory of Russia.The feasibility of deposited silt as an adsorbent to eliminate Cadmium (Cd) from aqueous solution is assessed in this study. The optimum adsorption condition was determined with the help of the Taguchi experimental design. The treatment process of the deposited silt is controlled by various parameters like pH of the solution; a dose of deposited silt; initial Cd metal concentration, and contact time are optimized in batch mode. It also recognizes the contribution of each well-regulated factor. The outcomes of experiments show that the major contribution of the controllable factors for Cd removal is the pH of the solution > stirring time > dose of deposited silt > initial concentration of Cd metal ions. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to determine significant parameters which contribute to the adsorption process. Results indicate that cadmium removal is mostly influenced by pH 88.17 %, followed by contact time 5.86%, adsorbent dose, 2.41%, and initial metal ion concentration 0.60%.     Trauma is a significant public health problem in Latin America (LA), contributing to substantial death and disability in the region. Several LA countries have implemented trauma registries and injury surveillance systems. However, the region lacks an integrated trauma system. The consensus conference's goal was to integrate existing LA trauma data collection efforts into a regional trauma program and encourage the use of the data to inform health policy.

    We created a consensus group of 25 experts in trauma and emergency care with previous data collection and injury surveillance experience in the LA. region. Experts participated in a consensus conference to discuss the state of trauma data collection in LA. We utilized the Delphi method to build consensus around strategic steps for trauma data management in the region. Consensus was defined as the agreement of ≥ 70% among the expert panel.

    The consensus conference determined that action was necessary from academic bodies, scientific societies, and ministries of health to encourage a culture of collection and use of health data in trauma. The panel developed a set of recommendations for these groups to encourage the development and use of robust trauma information systems in LA. Consensus was achieved in one Delphi round.

    Global concerns regarding the significant burden of non-communicable diseases and injuries (NCDIs) exist from both public health and economic perspectives. Our research focuses on the reduction of fatal risks due to NCDIs and the citizens' preferences about health programs and intervention to reduce premature death due to NCDIs. Governments and health authorities need reliable evidence and information to prioritize the interests of their citizens. One crucial piece of evidence to justify the resources spent on NCDIs is the value derived from the interventions on prevention and NCDIs control. This concept is usually called "Value of Statistical Life" (VSL), meaning the monetary value that individuals place on changes in the risk levels of life- threatening events. To the best of our knowledge, for the first time, our study will estimate the statistical value of life for selected interventions for the prevention and control of NCDIs at both national and sub-national levels in the context of Iran. This paper rp build a stronger empirical basis for monetizing the value of small changes in selected fatality risks. It paves the way for other national or vast VSL estimates for NCDIs, as well as other major causes of morbidity and mortality in the context of Iran, and perhaps other low and middle-income countries (LMICs).
    Studies show that different socio-economic and structural factors can limit access to healthcare for women with disabilities. The aim of the current study was to review barriers in access to healthcare services for women with disabilities (WWD) internationally.

This concept is usually called "Value of Statistical Life" (VSL), meaning the monetary value that individuals place on changes in the risk levels of life- threatening events. To the best of our knowledge, for the first time, our study will estimate the statistical value of life for selected interventions for the prevention and control of NCDIs at both national and sub-national levels in the context of Iran. This paper rp build a stronger empirical basis for monetizing the value of small changes in selected fatality risks. It paves the way for other national or vast VSL estimates for NCDIs, as well as other major causes of morbidity and mortality in the context of Iran, and perhaps other low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Studies show that different socio-economic and structural factors can limit access to healthcare for women with disabilities. The aim of the current study was to review barriers in access to healthcare services for women with disabilities (WWD) internationally. We conducted a systematic review of relevant qualitative articles in PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus databases from January 2009 to December 2017. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ds-6051b.html The search strategy was based on two main topics (1) access to healthcare; and (2) disability. In this review, women (older than 18) with different kinds of disabilities (physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities) were included. Studies were excluded if they were not peer-reviewed, and had a focus on men with disabilities. Twenty four articles met the inclusion criteria for the final review. In each study, participants noted various barriers to accessing healthcare. Findings revealed that WWD faced different sociocultural (erroneous assumptions, negative attitudes, being ignored, being judged, 's access to health care. Metformin is a first-line drug in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) treatment, yet whether metformin may increase all-cause or cardiovascular mortality of T2DM patients remains inconclusive. We searched PubMed and Embase for data extracted from inception to July 14, 2020, with a registration in PROSPERO (CRD42020177283). This study included randomized controlled trials (RCT) assessing the cardiovascular effects of metformin for T2DM. This study is followed by PRISMA and Cochrane guideline. Risk ratio (RR) with 95% CI was pooled across trials by a random-effects model. Primary outcomes include all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality. We identified 29 studies that randomly assigned patients with 371 all-cause and 227 cardiovascular death events. Compared with untreated T2DM patients, metformin-treated patients was not associated with lower risk of all-cause mortality (RR 0.98; 95%CI 0.69-1.38; P = 0.90), cardiovascular mortality (RR 1.13; 95% CI 0.60, 2.15; P = 0.70), macrovascular events (RR 0.87;se/cardiovascular mortality and cardiovascular events for T2DM. However, the conclusion shall be explained cautiously considering the limitations from UK Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS).
