The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread rapidly around the globe, causing significant morbidity and mortality. This study aims to describe electrocardiographic (ECG) characteristics of COVID-19 patients and to identify ECG parameters that are associated with cardiac involvement.
The study included patients who were hospitalized with COVID-19 diagnosis and had cardiac biomarker assessments and simultaneous 12-lead surface ECGs. Sixty-three hospitalized patients (median 53 [inter-quartile range, 43-65] years, 76.2% male) were enrolled, including patients with (n=23) and without (n=40) cardiac injury. Patients with cardiac injury were older, had more pre-existing co-morbidities, and had higher mortality than those without cardiac injury. They also had prolonged QTc intervals and more T wave changes. Logistic regression model identified that the number of abnormal T waves (odds ratio (OR), 2.36 [95% confidence interval (CI), 1.38-4.04], P=0.002) and QTc interval (OR, 1.31 [95% CI, 1.03-1.66], P=0.027) were independent indicators for cardiac injury. The combination model of these two parameters along with age could well discriminate cardiac injury (area the under curve 0.881, P<0.001) by receiver operating characteristic analysis. Cox regression model identified that the presence of T wave changes was an independent predictor of mortality (hazard ratio, 3.57 [1.40, 9.11], P=0.008) after adjustment for age.

More than 18 million people were infected with a total of 0.7 million deaths in ∼188 countries. Controlling the spread of SARS-CoV-2 is therefore inherently dependent on identifying and isolating infected individuals, especially since COVID-19 can result in little to no symptoms. Here, we provide a comprehensive review of the different primary technologies used to test for COVID-19 infection, discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each technology, and highlight the studies that have employed them. We also describe technologies that have the potential to accelerate SARS-CoV-2 detection in the future, including digital PCR, CRISPR, and microarray. Finally, remaining challenges in COVID-19 diagnostic testing are discussed, including (a) the lack of universal standards for diagnostic testing; (b) the identification of appropriate sample collection site(s); (c) the difficulty in performing large population screening; and (d) the limited understanding of SARS-COV-2 viral invasion, replication, and transmission.
While there have been encouraging preliminary clinical results for immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in ****, it remains a challenge to identify the subset of patients who may benefit. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of ICI treatment in patients with advanced ****, and explored potential biomarkers that are predictive of response.
The study enrolled 26 patients with advanced microsatellite stable **** (15 with gallbladder cancers Gulf Corporate Services and 11 with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma [ICCs]) who received ICI treatment. Targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) was performed on tumor tissue samples collected from 17 patients. Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) associated with carcinoid syndrome (CS) overproduce serotonin, mediated by tryptophan hydroxylase-1 (TPH1). The TPH inhibitor telotristat ethyl (TE) reduces peripheral serotonin and relieves CS symptoms. We conducted a real-world clinical practice study to explore the effects of TE on tumor growth in patients with NETs and CS.
Single-arm, pre/post chart review study of patients with advanced NETs who received TE for ≥6 months and had ≥2 radiological scans within 12 months before and ≥1 scan after TE initiation. Linear regression and longitudinal analyses assessed changes in tumor size controlling for background NET treatment.
Two hundred patients were enrolled, most (61%) had well-differentiated gastrointestinal NETs (61%) and received TE for an average of 12 months (SD, 7.3). Mean reduction in tumor size after TE initiation was 0.59 cm (p=0.006). Longitudinal analysis showed an 8.5% reduction in tumor size (p=0.045) from pre- to post-TE periods. Documented NET treatment prior to initiating TE and time between scans were not significant predictors of changes in tumor size. Results were consistent in a subgroup of patients with the same documented NET treatment before and after initiating TE.

Dexamethasone combined with 5-hydroxytryptamine type 3 receptor antagonists (5-HT3 RA) dual regimen is the standard prophylaxis regimen for patients receiving moderately emetogenic chemotherapy (MEC). However, it has been found in real-world practice that chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) remains poorly controlled among patients with gastrointestinal tumor, especially in those with high-risk factors for vomiting, such as female, young, and non-alcoholic individuals. Hence, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of an olanzapine-containing triple regimen in this clinical setting.
We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of gastrointestinal tumor patients who received mFOLFOX6, XELOX, or FOLFIRI chemotherapy at two institutions. All patients included were female and less than 55 years old, with no history of drinking. The patients were divided into two groups for olanzapine-containing triple therapy (olanzapine, tropisetron, and dexamethasone) and non-olanzapine dual therapy (tropisetron ananzapine-containing triple antiemetic regimen exhibit better efficacy and QoL as compared to non-olanzapine dual regimen. Further randomized studies are required to confirm these results.

Autophagy is defined as the process of intracellular degradation of cytoplasmic materials in the lysosome; however, the correlation between autophagy and drug resistance remains controversial. Herein, we investigated the correlation between autophagy and cisplatin resistance and also explored the underlying mechanisms.
We demonstrated that DDP-resistant NSCLC A549 (A549/DDP) cells had higher autophagy activity in comparison with its parental A549 cells; DDP treatment induced a time- and dose-dependent decrease of autophagy. Intriguingly, inhibition of autophagy with pharmacological drugs or knockdown of ATG5 or Beclin-1 aggravated cell death induced by DDP treatment, indicating that autophagy played protective rolefor the reversal of DDP chemoresistance for NSCLC treatment.
Our study provides novel insights into the association between MiTF and DDP chemoresistance in NSCLC cells, and suggests targeting MiTF and/or autophagy might be a potential strategy for the reversal of DDP chemoresistance for NSCLC treatment.
This study was designed to investigate the relationship between long-chain non-coding RNA metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (lncRNA MALAT1)/miR-23a-23a and melanoma.
Fifty-two cases of corresponding non-tumor normal tissues and 109 cases (including 62 cases of primary melanoma and 47 cases of metastatic melanoma) were collected. Real-time fluorescent PCR quantified lncRNA MALAT1 and miR-23a, and counted the 3-year survival of high/low miR-23 and high/low lncRNA MALAT1 populations. We predicted the binding site according to the sequence information of lncRNA MALAT1 and miR-23a. lncRNA MALAT1 siRNA and miR-23a mimics vectors were constructed and transfected into melanoma cell lines respectively to observe their effects on cells.
Compared with corresponding non-tumor normal tissues, lncRNA MALAT1 in melanoma tissue increased while miR-23a decreased. Compared with primary melanoma, metastatic melanoma was higher and miR-23a was lower. Downregulation of lncRNA MALAT1 caused upregulation of miR-23a, and lncRNA MALAT1 could bind to miR-23a. Downregulating lncRNA MALAT1 or upregulating miR-23a inhibited cell proliferation, migration and invasion and promoted apoptosis. Rescue experiments revealed that downregulation of miR-23a could offset cell changes caused by downregulation of lncRNA MALAT1.

This study aimed to analyze the risk factors for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), especially extracapsular lymph node involving the esophagus (ECLNIE), occurring during or after radiotherapy (RT) in patients with esophageal perforation (EP).
In total, 306 patients with ESCC who received RT and/or chemotherapy between January 2016 and December 2017 in our hospital and who met the inclusion criteria of the study were recruited. The continuous variables were converted into classification variables using the receiver operating characteristic curve or common clinical parameters. Risk factors for EP were examined by univariable analysis using the chi-square test or Fisher's exact and by multivariable analysis using logistic regression model. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to compensate for the differences in baseline characteristics, and the incidence of EP was compared after matching.
EP was observed in 26 patients (incidence rate, 8.5%). Univariable analysis revealed that age, BMI, T4 stage, tumor length, esophageal wall thickness, ECLNIE, necrotic areas, niche sign by esophagogram before RT, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, and prognostic nutritional index were significantly associated with EP among patients with ESCC who received radiotherapy.

A highly virulent strain (Hypr) of tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) was serially subcultured in the mammalian porcine kidney stable (PS) and Ixodes ricinus tick (IRE/CTVM19) cell lines, producing three viral variants. These variants exhibited distinct plaque sizes and virulence in a mouse model. Comparing the full-genome sequences of all variants, several nucleotide changes were identified in different genomic regions. Furthermore, different sequential variants were revealed to co-exist within one sample as quasispecies. Interestingly, the above-mentioned nucleotide changes found within the whole genome sequences of the new variants were present alongside the nucleotide sequence of the parental strain, which was represented as a minority quasispecies. These observations further imply that TBEV exists as a heterogeneous population that contains virus variants pre-adapted to reproduction in different environments, probably enabling virus survival in ticks and mammals.

Here, the presence of DTC and CTC in esophageal cancer (EC) patients and its correlation with clinical parameters was investigated to evaluate the CTC/DTC prognostic value in EC. This study included 77 EC patients with complete surgical tumor resection. CTC and DTC were analyzed in blood and bone marrow using nested CK20 reverse transcription-nested polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and findings were correlated with clinical data. Twenty-seven of 76 patients (36.5%) showed CK20 positivity in the blood, 19 of 61 patients (31.1%) in bone marrow, and 40 (51.9%) of 77 patients were positive in either blood or bone marrow or both. In multivariate analyses, only the DTC status emerged as independent predictor of overall and tumor specific survival. Our study revealed that, while the presence of CTC in blood is not associated with a worse prognosis, DTC detection in the bone marrow is a highly specific and independent prognostic marker in EC patients. The SReFT analysis suggested that scores of St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire and COPD assessment test, representative scores of the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) questionnaire, increased consistently for 30 years of disease progression, which was not detected by conventional analysis with a linear mixed effect model. It was estimated by the SReFT analysis that normalized forced expiratory volume in one second for age, sex, and body size (%FEV1) reduced for the initial 10 years from the onset of the disease but thereafter remained constant. The analysis of HRQOL scores and lung functions suggested that smoking cessation slowed COPD progression by approximately half and that exacerbation accelerated it considerably. In conclusion, this retrospective study utilizing SReFT elucidated the progression of COPD over 30 years and associated quantitative changes in the HRQOL scores and lung functions.The COVID-19 pandemic goes along with increased mortality from acute respiratory disease. Vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency were common (44% and 15%, respectively). Compared to those with sufficient vitamin D status, participants with vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency had strongly increased respiratory mortality, with adjusted hazard ratios (95% confidence intervals) of 2.1 (1.3-3.2) and 3.0 (1.8-5.2) overall, 4.3 (1.3-14.4) and 8.5 (2.4-30.1) among women, and 1.9 (1.1-3.2) and 2.3 (1.1-4.4) among men. Overall, 41% (95% confidence interval 20-58%) of respiratory disease mortality was statistically attributable to vitamin D insufficiency or deficiency.

However, special attention should be paid to the risk of their contamination by Fusarium mycotoxins, as the rate of mycotoxin reduction during processing could be **** lower than that for hulled cereals. In the present study, mycotoxin contamination of two cultivars, each of hulless oats and barley suitable for food purposes were studied in a 3-year field trial established in two contrasting environments. The contents of the mycotoxins regulated by law (deoxynivalenol and zearalenone) were low, and the present legal limits for their maximum content in unprocessed cereals were far from being exceeded. The mycotoxins most frequently occurring in hulless barley were enniatins (enniatin B, enniatin B1 and enniatin A1), beauvericin and nivalenol; hulless oats most frequently contained the HT-2 and T-2 toxins, beauvericin and enniatin B. The contents of enniatins and nivalenol were higher in barley than in oats. Close, positive relationships between the contents of the individual enniatins and between enniatins, beauvericin and nivalenol were observed, which implies that co-exposure could enhance the toxic potential of these mycotoxins through synergistic effects. This study aims to identify important miRNA-mRNA-TF interactions in NSCLC using bioinformatics analysis. GEO datasets containing mRNA expression data of NSCLC were used to determine differentially expressed genes (DEGs), and identification of hub genes-BIRC5, CCNB1, KIF11, KIF20A, and KIF4A (all functionally enriched in cell cycle). The FFL network involved, comprised of miR-20b-5p, CCNB1, HMGA2, and E2F7. KM survival analysis determines that these components may be effective prognostic biomarkers and would be a new contemplation in NSCLC therapeutics as they target cell cycle and immunosurveillance mechanisms via HMGA2 and E2F7. They provide survival advantage and evasion of host immune response (via downregulation of cytokines-IL6, IL1R1 and upregulation of chemokines-CXCL13, CXCL14) to NSCLC. Fifty-six eligible participants were purposively selected and enrolled, then randomly assigned to either the BG-CBT group or the control group. The BG-CBT group received six brief weekly sessions of cognitive behavioral group therapy, while the control group received conventional care. Baseline data were collected at week 0 (pretest) and at week 6 (post-test), including food consumption behavior, physical activity, and adherence to medication regimes, as well as a blood examination to determine levels of HbA1c at the week 12 follow-up. DRD was assessed using the Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS-17) and analyzed using descriptive statistics, including pair t-test and independence t-test results. The BG-CBT had a significant effect on the amelioration of diabetes distress, improvement of food consumption behavior, and reduction of HbA1c levels, demonstrating the effectiveness of BG-CBT in maintaining diabetes control in people with T2DM-related distress.Doxorubicin (doxo) is an effective anticancer compound in several tumor types. However, as a consequence of oxidative stress induction and ROS overproduction, its high cardiotoxicity demands urgent attention. Vanillin possesses antioxidant, antiproliferative, antidepressant and anti-glycating properties. Therefore, we investigated the potential vanillin protective effects against doxo-induced cardiotoxicity in H9c2 cells. Using multiparametric approach, we demonstrated that vanillin restored both cell viability and damage in response to doxo exposure. Contextually, vanillin decreased sub-G1 appearance and caspase-3 and PARP1 activation, reducing the doxo-related apoptosis induction. From a mechanistic point of view, vanillin hindered doxo-induced ROS accumulation and impaired the ERK phosphorylation. Notably, besides the cardioprotective effects, vanillin did not counteract the doxo effectiveness in osteosarcoma cells. Taken together, our results suggest that vanillin ameliorates doxo-induced toxicity in H9c2 cells, opening new avenues for developing alternative therapeutic approaches to prevent the anthracycline-related cardiotoxicity and to improve the long-term outcome of antineoplastic treatment.Competencies of school health staff (SHS) members, including school nurses, are crucial to improving child and adolescent health. However, special attention should be paid to the risk of their contamination by Fusarium mycotoxins, as the rate of mycotoxin reduction during processing could be much lower than that for hulled cereals. In the present study, mycotoxin contamination of two cultivars, each of hulless oats and barley suitable for food purposes were studied in a 3-year field trial established in two contrasting environments. The contents of the mycotoxins regulated by law (deoxynivalenol and zearalenone) were low, and the present legal limits for their maximum content in unprocessed cereals were far from being exceeded. The mycotoxins most frequently occurring in hulless barley were enniatins (enniatin B, enniatin B1 and enniatin A1), beauvericin and nivalenol; hulless oats most frequently contained the HT-2 and T-2 toxins, beauvericin and enniatin B. The contents of enniatins and nivalenol were higher in barley than in oats. Close, positive relationships between the contents of the individual enniatins and between enniatins, beauvericin and nivalenol were observed, which implies that co-exposure could enhance the toxic potential of these mycotoxins through synergistic effects. The results highlight the need to pay more attention to the occurrence of enniatins, beauvericine and nivalenol in hulless oats and barley used for food purposes.Lung cancer is a prime cause of worldwide cancer deaths, with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) as a frequent subtype. Laser-scribed graphene electrodes (LSGEs) have recently shown a potential for the development of electrochemical biosensors thanks to their electronic properties, porous structures, and large surface area that can support the charge transfer. In this paper, the authors present a comparative study of the electrochemical performances of LSGEs with the conventional screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) toward the detection of most commonly used phenolic compounds and biomolecules. Cyclic voltammetry measurements showed a significant enhancement in the electron transfer rate of all tested electroactive species at LSGEs compared to conventional SPCE. We have suggested, for the first time, a mechanistic study for catecholamine redox reactions at LSGE as the electron transfer-chemical reaction-electron transfer mechanism. All women were referred to a regional specialist centre for follow-up and further management. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate fear related to epilepsy and its treatment among those with idiopathic epilepsy. Our secondary objective was to estimate the psychometric properties of a brief Bhalla-Gharagozli Fear in epilepsy Questionnaire (BG-FEQ).
We conducted patient-finding exercise in our study areas through various means to obtain subjects with idiopathic epilepsy. We carefully examined each patient through a detailed case-history examination. Following that, we evaluated fear related to epilepsy by using Bhalla-Gharagozli Fear in Epilepsy Questionnaire (BG-FEQ) across two broad domains epilepsy and pharmacotherapy.
The study obtained 52 subjects (39.0 years; 45.0% males, 70.0% married, 35.0% unqualified, 85.0% active epilepsy, 80.0% generalized seizures) with idiopathic epilepsy. The alpha coefficient was 92.8, with no item-specific coefficient of ≤0.91. The alpha coefficient was 0.90 and 0.93 for reporting a "yes" and "no" to the items, respectively. We obtained a two-factorion and therapeutic handling of comorbid constructs, and also for the education of patients and their caregivers towards better awareness and prevention. There is also a need for formal Epilepsy Educators towards better awareness, therapeutic support and prevention of epilepsy.
There was a significant representation of fear among those with idiopathic epilepsy, especially among the females, particularly the fear of brain tumour, premature death and more frequent/severe seizures over time. At least 65.0% of idiopathic subjects are likely to be affected by at least one fear. The essential mitigating approach should be the education of practitioners towards better identification and therapeutic handling of comorbid constructs, and also for the education of patients and their caregivers towards better awareness and prevention. There is also a need for formal Epilepsy Educators towards better awareness, therapeutic support and prevention of epilepsy.

The primary objective of this study was to evaluate fear related to epilepsy and its treatment among those with idiopathic epilepsy. Our secondary objective was to estimate the psychometric properties of a brief Bhalla-Gharagozli Fear in epilepsy Questionnaire (BG-FEQ). We conducted patient-finding exercise in our study areas through various means to obtain subjects with idiopathic epilepsy. We carefully examined each patient through a detailed case-history examination. Following that, we evaluated fear related to epilepsy by using Bhalla-Gharagozli Fear in Epilepsy Questionnaire (BG-FEQ) across two broad domains epilepsy and pharmacotherapy. The study obtained 52 subjects (39.0 years; 45.0% males, 70.0% married, 35.0% unqualified, 85.0% active epilepsy, 80.0% generalized seizures) with idiopathic epilepsy. The alpha coefficient was 92.8, with no item-specific coefficient of ≤0.91. The alpha coefficient was 0.90 and 0.93 for reporting a "yes" and "no" to the items, respectively. We obtained a two-factorion and therapeutic handling of comorbid constructs, and also for the education of patients and their caregivers towards better awareness and prevention. The root microbiome plays a key role that can influence host plant growth and abiotic stress. While there has been extensive characterization of community structure, spatial compartmentalization, and the impact of drought stresses on the root microbiome in rice and other plants, there is relatively little known about the differences in root microbiome among rice ecotypes in natural upland and lowland fields. Herein, we used two rice ecotypes, upland and irrigated ecotype rice (two Indica and two Japonica genotypes), as a model to explore the responses of the root microbiome under different environmental conditions. We aimed to identify environment-induced adaptation in the root bacterial and fungal composition of rice ecotypes by high-throughput sequencing. Rice from lowland field or upland had significantly altered overall bacterial and fungal community compositions of the two ecotypes, with diversity of both ecotypes greatly decreased from lowland field to upland. The overall response of the root microbiome to upland conditions was taxonomically driven by the enrichment of family Enterobacteriaceae and genera Serratia, and phylum Ascomycota. The ABCD score is for patients who have been tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted in a hospital. This score includes age of the patient, blood tests included leukopenia, lymphocytopenia, CRP level, LDH level,D-Dimer, Chest radiograph and CT Scan, Comorbidities and Dyspnea.
The triage score had letters from alphabets which included A, B, C, D. The score was developed using these variables which outputs a value from 0 to 1. We had used the code according to traffic signal system; green(mild), yellow moderate) and red(severe). The suggestions for mild (green)category symptomatic treatment in ward, in moderate (yellow) category active treatment, semi critical care and oxygen supplementation, in severe (red) category critical care and intensive care.
This study is, to our knowledge, is the first scoring tool that has been prepared by Indian health care processional's and used alphabets A, ****D as variables for evaluation of admitted patients with COVID-19. This triage tool will be helpful in better management of patients with COVID-19. However, there have been instances when the infected person forgets his/her contact-persons and does not have their contact details. Therefore, this study aimed at analyzing possible opportunities and challenges of integrating emerging technologies into COVID-19 contact tracing.
The study applied literature search from Google Scholar, Science Direct, PubMed, Web of Science, IEEE and WHO COVID-19 reports and guidelines analyzed.
While the integration of technology-based contact tracing applications to combat COVID-19 and break transmission chains promise to yield better results, these technologies face challenges such as technical limitations, dealing with asymptomatic individuals, lack of supporting ICT infrastructure and electronic health policy, socio-economic inequalities, deactivation of mobile devices' WIFI, GPS services, inact tracing while observing the security and privacy of people in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.The DNA damage response (DDR) is a well-coordinated cellular network activated by DNA damage. The unravelling of the key players in DDR, their specific inactivation in different tumor types and the synthesis of specific chemical inhibitors of DDR represent a new hot topic in cancer therapy. In this article, we will review the importance of DDR in lymphoma development and how this can be exploited therapeutically. Specifically, we will focus on CHK1, WEE1, ATR, DNA-PK and PARP inhibitors, for which preclinical data as single agents or in combination has been accumulating, fostering their clinical development. The few available clinical data on these inhibitors will also be discussed.Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare malignancy mainly caused by asbestos exposure. Germinal and acquired mutations in genes of DNA repair pathways, in particular of homologous recombination repair, are frequent in MPM. Here we overview the available experimental data suggesting that an impaired DNA repair system affects MPM pathogenesis by leaving lesions through the genome unresolved. DNA repair defects represent a vulnerability of MPM, and it seems plausible to propose that leveraging these deficiencies could have therapeutic potential for patients with MPM, for whom there is an urgent need of more effective therapies.

Cleidocranial dysplasia is an autosomal skeletal disorder resulting from delayed or abnormal ossification of bony growth. Consecutive patients undergoing curative TME between 1 February 2014 and 31 October 2018 were selected from a prospectively maintained database and stratified, according to the type of procedure, into taTME and lapTME groups. Patient demographics, tumour characteristics, operative parameters, and short-term outcomes were analyzed. The main outcome measure was intraoperative costs of the two procedures. Secondary outcomes were short-term outcome and the utilization of hospital resources to manage the postoperative course. Hundred and fifty-two patients with rectal cancer (66 lapTME, 86 taTME) were included in the study. Surgical supplies required for taTME procedure exceeded the cost of lapTME of 754,54 €. The duration of surgery was not significantly different between the two approaches (266 ± 92.85 vs 271 ± 83.63, p = 0.50). Short-term outcomes were comparable including postoperative complication rate (17 vs 20%, p = 0.68), reintervention rate, and length of stay. There was no difference in hospital resources utilization to manage postoperative course including blood test, diagnostics, consultations, and medications. TaTME has higher intraoperative costs in terms of supplies with respect to lapTME. Short-term outcomes and hospital resources to manage postoperative course are comparable.
High prevalence of hepatitisB virus (HBV) infection among pregnant women is the primary source of infection for their children and the general population. Mother-to-child transmission (****) is the primary mode of transmission in endemic areas like Ethiopia. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of HBV infection, rate of ****, and associated risk factors among delivering mothers.
This health facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted in four public hospitals of the Eastern zone of Tigray among 473 delivering mothers. Structured questionnaires and laboratory results were used to collect the data. The data were checked for completeness and entered into EpiData manager version4.6.0.0. Then the data were exported to Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version23. The odds ratio, along with a 95% confidence interval, was estimated to identify predictors of HBV infection using multivariable logistic regression analysis. Significant association was considered at p < 0.05.

Thus, for the purpose of proposing a standardized method to appropriately prepare blood samples prior to assay, the Japanese Society of Laboratory Hematology organized the Working Group for Standardization of Sample Preparation for Clotting Time Assays (WG). Following reviews of previously announced guidelines and original experimental results, consensus was obtained by the WG, with the main findings as follows. Our goal was to perform a comparative cost analysis of taTME and laparoscopic TME (lapTME). Consecutive patients undergoing curative TME between 1 February 2014 and 31 October 2018 were selected from a prospectively maintained database and stratified, according to the type of procedure, into taTME and lapTME groups. Patient demographics, tumour characteristics, operative parameters, and short-term outcomes were analyzed. The main outcome measure was intraoperative costs of the two procedures. Secondary outcomes were short-term outcome and the utilization of hospital resources to manage the postoperative course. Hundred and fifty-two patients with rectal cancer (66 lapTME, 86 taTME) were included in the study. Surgical supplies required for taTME procedure exceeded the cost of lapTME of 754,54 €. The duration of surgery was not significantly different between the two approaches (266 ± 92.85 vs 271 ± 83.63, p = 0.50). Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) is the primary mode of transmission in endemic areas like Ethiopia. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of HBV infection, rate of MTCT, and associated risk factors among delivering mothers. This health facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted in four public hospitals of the Eastern zone of Tigray among 473 delivering mothers. Structured questionnaires and laboratory results were used to collect the data. The data were checked for completeness and entered into EpiData manager version4.6.0.0. Then the data were exported to Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version23. The odds ratio, along with a 95% confidence interval, was estimated to identify predictors of HBV infection using multivariable logistic regression analysis. Significant association was considered at p < 0.05. AHBV for the pregnant mothers are needed to reduce HBV infection and vertical transmission in Ethiopia. HBV infection among delivering women is becoming highly endemic, and the rate of MTCT was high. Therefore, administering hepatitis B vaccine to all neonates within 24 h of birth is mandatory to prevent MTCT of HBV infection and related complications.
