    Recent decades have seen a rise in patients with chronic angina. When complete revascularization and maximal medical therapy fail to reduce symptoms, CSR has become a new therapeutic option.

    We identified a classical C-shape-a near horizontal course of the proximal portion of a circular CS-in a retrospective analysis of 47 CSR implantations and compared the procedural time, fluoroscopic time, contrast use, presence of valves or bifurcations and procedural complications with the non-C-shape CS anatomy.

    We found a significant difference in procedural (20.0 [19.0-24.7] min vs. 24.5 [20.7-51.0] min; p = .028 and fluoroscopic time (9.5 [7.5-14.5] min vs. 11.0 [7.9-30.0] min; p = .016). There was no significant difference in contrast use. The presence of bifurcations or valves along the CS course did not influence the procedural timings.

One example are online events, namely e-schools or webinars. Taking this into consideration, we decided to promote the MedChemTrain e-School 2020, a virtual event aiming to bring together the scientific community and share some updates in the medicinal chemistry field. After organizing this free event, with more than 1.4 thousand participants worldwide, we decided to share some insights about the logistics behind organizing a virtual symposium to help scientists with this new challenge in science communication.

    Here, we identified azithromycin (AZ) as an effective inhibitor against multiple IAV and SARS-CoV-2 strains. We found that AZ treatment could potently inhibit IAV infection in vitro. Moreover, using pseudotyped virus model, AZ could also markedly block the entry of SARS-CoV-2 in HEK293T-ACE2 and Caco2 cells. Mechanistic studies further revealed that such effect was independent of interferon signalling. AZ treatment neither impaired the binding and internalization of IAV virions, nor the viral replication, but rather inhibited the fusion between viral and vacuolar membranes. Using a NPC1-pHluorin2 reporter cell line, we confirmed that AZ treatment could alkalize the vesicles containing IAV virions, thereby preventing pH-dependent membrane fusion.

    Overall, our findings demonstrate that AZ can exert broad-spectrum antiviral effects against IAV and SARS-CoV-2, and could be served as a potential clinical anti-SARS-CoV-2 drug in emergency as well as a promising lead compound for the development of next-generation anti-IAV drugs.

    11,418 participants in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing provided baseline information on hearing status and social contact mode and frequency of use. Multilevel growth curve models compared episodic memory (immediate and delayed recall) at baseline and longitudinally in participants who interacted frequently (offline only or offline and online combined), compared to infrequently, with others in their social network.

    Frequent offline (B = 0.23; SE = 0.09) and combined offline and online (B = 0.71; SE = 0.09) social interactions predicted better episodic memory after adjustment for multiple confounders. We observed positive, longitudinal associations between combined offline and online interactions and episodic memory in participants without hearing loss (B = 0.50, SE = 0.11) but not with strictly offline interactions (B = 0.01, SE = 0.11). In those with hearing loss, episodic memory was positively related to both modes of engagement (offline only B = 0.79, SE = 0.20; combined online and offline B = 1.27, SE = 0.20). Sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness of these findings.

Using Petunia hybrida flowers, which emit high levels of phenylpropanoid/benzenoid volatile organic compounds (VOCs), we uncovered genome-wide dynamic deposition of histone H3 lysine 9 acetylation (H3K9ac) during anthesis as an underlying mechanism to coordinate primary and secondary metabolic networks. The observed epigenome reprogramming is accompanied by transcriptional activation at gene loci involved in primary metabolic pathways that provide precursor phenylalanine, as well as secondary metabolic pathways to produce volatile compounds. We also observed transcriptional repression among genes involved in alternative phenylpropanoid branches that compete for metabolic precursors. We show that GNAT family histone acetyltransferase(s) (HATs) are required for the expression of genes involved in VOC biosynthesis and emission, by using chemical inhibitors of HATs, and by knocking down a specific HAT gene, ELP3, through transient RNAi. Together, our study supports that regulatory mechanisms at chromatin level may play an essential role in activating primary and secondary metabolic pathways to regulate VOC synthesis in petunia flowers.

We explored the relationship between relapse and treatment length as well as interregimen differences for 2 novel antituberculosis drug regimens using a mouse model of tuberculosis infection and mathematical modeling.

    Mycobacterium tuberculosis-infected **** were treated for up to 13 weeks with bedaquiline and pretomanid combined with moxifloxacin and pyrazinamide (BPaMZ) or linezolid (BPaL). Cure rates were evaluated 12 weeks after treatment completion. The standard regimen of isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol (HRZE) was evaluated as a comparator.

    Six weeks of BPaMZ was sufficient to achieve cure in all ****. In contrast, 13 weeks of BPaL and 24 weeks of HRZE did not achieve 100% cure rates. Based on mathematical model predictions, 95% probability of cure was predicted to occur at 1.6, 4.3, and 7.9 months for BPaMZ, BPaL, and HRZE, respectively.

New methods of collecting 24-h dietary recalls and recording diet could enable larger samples and more repeated measures to increase statistical power and measurement precision. In addition, use of machine learning to automatically classify pictures of food could become a useful complimentary method to help improve precision and validity of dietary measurements. Diet is complex due to thousands of different foods that are consumed in varying proportions, fluctuating quantities over time, and differing combinations. Current dietary pattern methods may not integrate sufficient dietary variation, and most traditional modeling approaches have limited incorporation of interactions and nonlinearity. Machine learning could help better model diet as a complex exposure with nonadditive and nonlinear associations. Last, novel big data sources could help avoid unmeasured confounding by offering more covariates, including both omics and features derived from unstructured data with machine learning methods.     In a prospective mono-centric cohort study, we evaluated 100 patients at mean 5.2 ± 3.6 years after a fracture of the acetabulum. The validation study followed the complete COSMIN checklist protocol. Tones of COVID-19 contaminated wastes are generated every day worldwide and its sound management is very essential to break the disease transmission. The safe and sustainable management of COVID-19 contaminated biomedical waste (BMW) is a social and legal responsibility of all people during this critical period of disease transmission. Unsound management of this waste could cause unforeseen "knock-on" effects on human health and the environment. Health workers, municipal workers, rag-pickers and other persons who are involved directly or indirectly in the COVID -19 war are at high risk and needs to be careful while discharging their responsibility with an efficient and effective waste disposal mechanism.The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has caused unpredictable mortality and economic losses globally. With no approved drug for the treatment, the accurate diagnosis of COVID-19 becomes essential. RNA based test takes several hours and require extensive human intervention for RNA extraction and RT-PCR, but it is preferred over the antibody-based detection as the latter does not detect the early stage infections. The RT-PCR being a gold standard of COVID-19 diagnosis offers highly standardized detection of the SARS-CoV-2 RNA, still vulnerable for false-negative diagnosis due to absence of infected cells in the sample or inaccurate RNA extraction. Hence there is a need to develop alternative protocols and methods for the accurate COVID-19 diagnosis. Here we propose two additional steps in RT-PCR based COVID-19 diagnosis to minimize false-negative detection. The first step involves collection of four samples from an individual. Each sample should be collected from nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal regions on day 01, mixed together followed by RNA extraction and then repeating the same exercise on day 03.

For calculation of convergent validity, we used the Tegner-Activity Scale, the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, the EuroQol-5D, and a subjective rating of change as an anchor variable.   • Procedure-related cardiac electronic implantable device (CIED) infections have high morbidity and mortality, highlighting the urgent need for infection prevention efforts to include electrophysiology procedures. We developed and validated a semi-automated algorithm based on structured electronic health records data to reliably identify CIED infections. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/abbv-cls-484.html A sample of CIED procedures entered into the Veterans' Health Administration Clinical Assessment Reporting and Tracking program from FY 2008-2015 was reviewed for the presence of CIED infection. The training set was used to develop a detection algorithm containing structured variables mapped from the clinical pathways of CIED infection. Performance of this algorithm was evaluated using the validation set. 2,107 unique CIED procedures from a cohort of 5,753 underwent manual review; 97 CIED infections (4.6%) were identified. Variables strongly associated with true infections included presence of a microbiology order, billing codes for surgical site infections and post-procedural antibiotic prescriptions. The combined algorithm to detect infection demonstrated high c-statistic (0.95; 95% confidence interval 0.92-0.98), sensitivity (87.9%) and specificity (90.3%) in the validation data. Structured variables derived from clinical pathways can guide development of a semi-automated detection tool to surveil for CIED infection.Composite materials consisting of metal and metal oxide phases are being researched intensively for various energy conversion applications where they are often expected to operate under redox conditions at elevated temperature. Understanding of the dynamics of composite evolution during redox cycling is still very limited, yet critical to maximising performance and increasing durability. Here we track the microstructural evolution of a single composite particle over 200 redox cycles for hydrogen production by chemical looping, using multi-length scale X-ray computed tomography. We show that redox cycling triggers a centrifugal redispersion of the metal phase and a centripetal clustering of porosity, both seemingly driven by the asymmetric nature of oxygen exchange in composites. Initially, the particle develops a large amount of internal porosity which boosts activity, but on the long term this facilitates structural and compositional reorganisation and eventually degradation. These results provide valuable insight into redox-driven microstructural changes and also for the design of new composite materials with enhanced durability.Polymeric heart valves seem to be an attractive alternative to mechanical and biological prostheses as they are more durable, due to the superior properties of novel polymers, and have the biocompatibility and hemodynamics comparable to tissue substitutes. This study reports a comprehensive assessment of a nanocomposite based on the functionalised graphene oxide and poly(carbonate-urea)urethane with the trade name "Hastalex" in comparison with GORE-TEX, a commercial polymer routinely used for cardiovascular medical devices. Experimental data have proved that GORE-TEX has a 2.5-fold (longitudinal direction) and 3.5-fold (transverse direction) lower ultimate tensile strength in comparison with Hastalex (p  less then  0.05). The contact angles of Hastalex surfaces (85.2 ± 1.1°) significantly (p  less then  0.05) are lower than those of GORE-TEX (127.1 ± 6.8°). The highest number of viable cells Ea.hy 926 is on the Hastalex surface exceeding 7.5-fold when compared with the GORE-TEX surface (p  less then  0.001). The platelet deformation index for GORE-TEX is 2-fold higher than that of Hastalex polymer (p  less then  0.05). Calcium content is greater for GORE-TEX (8.4 mg/g) in comparison with Hastalex (0.55 mg/g). The results of this study have proven that Hastalex meets the main standards required for manufacturing artificial heart valves and has superior mechanical, hemocompatibility and calcific resistance properties in comparison with GORE-TEX.Environmental stresses might alter the activity of antioxidant defense system and both quantity and quality of the essential oil constituents in aromatic plants. In the current study, a greenhouse experiment was designed to assess the influence of cold stress on total phenolic (TPC) and flavonoid contents (TFC), DPPH radical scavenging, antioxidant and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) enzymes activity and content of phenylpropanoid compounds in Ocimum basilicum L. The genes expression levels of chavicol O-methyl transferase (CVOMT), cinnamate 4-hydroxylase (C4H), eugenol synthase 1 (EGS1) and eugenol O-methyl transferase (EOMT) were also investigated. Results revealed the highest TPC, TFC and DPPH at 4 °C for 12 h. Positive significant correlation was observed between TFC and DPPH, as well as TPC and PAL enzyme activity. The highest activity of superoxide dismutase and guaiacol peroxidase was recorded in 4 °C for 48 h, while this treatment caused the highest reduction in the activities of ascorbate peroxidase and catalase. In plants exposed to 10 °C for 48 h, the contents of methyleugenol and methylchavicol was positively associated with the expression levels of EGS1 and EOMT. A positive correlation was also found between C4H expression and eugenol, methyleugenol and methylchavicol contents under 4 °C for 12 h.Nanoconfined water plays a pivotal role in a vast number of fields ranging from biological and materials sciences to catalysis, nanofluidics and geochemistry. Here, we report the freezing and melting behavior of water (D2O) nanoconfined in architected silica-based matrices including Vycor glass and mesoporous silica SBA-15 and SBA-16 with pore diameters ranging between 4-15 nm, which are investigated using differential scanning calorimetry and 2H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The results provide compelling evidence that the extreme dynamical heterogeneity of water molecules is preserved over distances as small as a few angstroms. Solidification progresses in a layer-by-layer fashion with a coexistence of liquid-like and solid-like dynamical fraction at all temperatures during the transition process. The previously reported fragile-to-strong dynamic transition in nanoconfined water is argued to be a direct consequence of the layer-by-layer solidification.

  • In the case of higher n'p ← ns or n's ← ns (n' > n) excitations, the shifts are larger as the excited state orbital is more extended and therefore more sensitive to changes in the surrounding helium density.We investigate the carrier-envelope phase (CEP) dependences of the single and double ionization processes of methanol (CH3OH) in an intense near-IR few-cycle laser field (2.1 × 1014 W/cm2) by the asymmetry in the ejection direction of CH3+ for the non-hydrogen migration channels and CH2+ for the hydrogen migration channels created through the C-O bond breaking after the ionization. Based on the absolute CEP values at the laser-molecule interaction point, calibrated by the method using intense few-cycle circularly polarized laser pulses [Fukahori et al., Phys. Rev. A 95, 053410-1-053410-14 (2017)], we confirm that methanol cations are produced by tunnel ionization and methanol dications are produced by the recollisional double ionization. We obtain the phase offset for the double ionization accompanying no hydrogen migration to be 1.85π as the absolute CEP at which the extent of the asymmetry becomes maximum. We interpret the phase shift of 0.85π from the phase offset of 1.0π for the tunnel ionization, estimated by a tunnel ionization model incorporating the chemical bond asymmetry, as the corresponding time delay associated with the electron recollisional ionization. The positive phase shift of 0.13π for the single ionization in the non-hydrogen migration channel is interpreted as the additional time (165 as) with which a methanol cation can be excited electronically prior to the decomposition. The additional phase shift of 0.22π for the single ionization in the hydrogen migration channel is interpreted as the additional time (280 as) required for a methanol cation to be excited electronically leading to the hydrogen migration prior to the decomposition.The multicomponent orbital-optimized second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory (OOMP2) method is the first multicomponent MP2 method that is able to calculate qualitatively accurate protonic densities, protonic affinities, and geometrical changes due to nuclear quantum effects in multicomponent systems. In this study, two approximations of the multicomponent OOMP2 method are introduced in an effort to demonstrate that, in orbital-optimized multicomponent methods, performing the orbital-optimization process with only electron-proton correlation is sufficient to obtain accurate protonic properties. Additionally, these approximations should reduce the computational expense of the multicomponent OOMP2 method. In the first approximation, the first-order wave function is written as a linear combination of one-electron one-proton excitations rather than as a linear combination of one-electron one-proton and two-electron excitations as in the original multicomponent OOMP2 method. Electron-electron correlation is included perturbatively after the orbital-optimization procedure has converged. In the second approach, the first approximation is further modified to neglect all terms in the orbital-rotation gradients that depend on the two-electron molecular-orbital integrals, which, assuming a fixed-sized protonic basis set, reduces the computational scaling for the orbital-optimization iterations to Ne3, where Ne is a measure of the electronic system size, compared to the Ne5 scaling of the original multicomponent OOMP2 method. These thermodynamics can be rigorously described in the context of the GENERIC (general equation for the nonequilibrium reversible-irreversible coupling) framework. More specifically, this approach was recently applied to non-ideal polymer solutions [T. Indei and J. D. Schieber, J. Chem. Phys. 146, 184902 (2017)]. One of the species of the solution is an unreactive polymer chain represented by the bead-spring model. Using this detailed description as inspiration, we then make several simplifying assumptions to obtain a mean-field model for a Janus microswimmer. The swimmer model considered here consists of a polymer dumbbell in a sea of reactants. One of the beads of the dumbbell is allowed to act as a catalyst for a chemical reaction between the reactants. We show that the mean-squared displacement (MSD) of the center of mass of this Janus dumbbell exhibits ballistic behavior at time scales at which the concentration of the reactant is large.
    In the case of higher n'p ← ns or n's ← ns (n' > n) excitations, the shifts are larger as the excited state orbital is more extended and therefore more sensitive to changes in the surrounding helium density.We investigate the carrier-envelope phase (CEP) dependences of the single and double ionization processes of methanol (CH3OH) in an intense near-IR few-cycle laser field (2.1 × 1014 W/cm2) by the asymmetry in the ejection direction of CH3+ for the non-hydrogen migration channels and CH2+ for the hydrogen migration channels created through the C-O bond breaking after the ionization. Based on the absolute CEP values at the laser-molecule interaction point, calibrated by the method using intense few-cycle circularly polarized laser pulses [Fukahori et al., Phys. Rev. A 95, 053410-1-053410-14 (2017)], we confirm that methanol cations are produced by tunnel ionization and methanol dications are produced by the recollisional double ionization. We obtain the phase offset for the double ionization accompanying no hydrogen migration to be 1.85π as the absolute CEP at which the extent of the asymmetry becomes maximum. We interpret the phase shift of 0.85π from the phase offset of 1.0π for the tunnel ionization, estimated by a tunnel ionization model incorporating the chemical bond asymmetry, as the corresponding time delay associated with the electron recollisional ionization. The positive phase shift of 0.13π for the single ionization in the non-hydrogen migration channel is interpreted as the additional time (165 as) with which a methanol cation can be excited electronically prior to the decomposition. The additional phase shift of 0.22π for the single ionization in the hydrogen migration channel is interpreted as the additional time (280 as) required for a methanol cation to be excited electronically leading to the hydrogen migration prior to the decomposition.The multicomponent orbital-optimized second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory (OOMP2) method is the first multicomponent MP2 method that is able to calculate qualitatively accurate protonic densities, protonic affinities, and geometrical changes due to nuclear quantum effects in multicomponent systems. In this study, two approximations of the multicomponent OOMP2 method are introduced in an effort to demonstrate that, in orbital-optimized multicomponent methods, performing the orbital-optimization process with only electron-proton correlation is sufficient to obtain accurate protonic properties. Additionally, these approximations should reduce the computational expense of the multicomponent OOMP2 method. In the first approximation, the first-order wave function is written as a linear combination of one-electron one-proton excitations rather than as a linear combination of one-electron one-proton and two-electron excitations as in the original multicomponent OOMP2 method. Electron-electron correlation is included perturbatively after the orbital-optimization procedure has converged. In the second approach, the first approximation is further modified to neglect all terms in the orbital-rotation gradients that depend on the two-electron molecular-orbital integrals, which, assuming a fixed-sized protonic basis set, reduces the computational scaling for the orbital-optimization iterations to Ne3, where Ne is a measure of the electronic system size, compared to the Ne5 scaling of the original multicomponent OOMP2 method.     The Center for Victims of Sexual Assault at Wolfson's Medical Center is the first of its kind in Israel. It was launched in 2000 by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and has since served over 4000 victims. The center provides care by a multidisciplinary team of gynecologists, social workers, forensic physicians, and police investigators, in a single place and with a supporting atmosphere.

    To review the characteristics of female victims who were treated in the Center for Victims of Sexual Assault at Wolfson's Medical Center between 2000 and 2017.

    This is a retrospective observational study. The data of all female victims who were treated in our center were retrieved from the medical files. The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board.

    During the study period, 3598 (90.5%) women and 376 (9.5%) men were treated in our center. The mean age of the female victims was 23.0 years, of whom 27.1% were minors. Most victims (69.8%) arrived at the center within 24 hours from the assault. The victim knew the perpetrator before the assault in half of the cases. About half of the assaults occurred on weekends. The victims reported a high rate of alcohol and drug use before the assault (36.2% and 8.1%, respectively), and this rate has increased over the years. Most victims (70.4%) filed a police report, though this rate has decreased over the years.

The disease is characterized by acute abruption of erythematous plaque with a disseminated spread of sterile pustule, and may progress to sepsis and even death. Notably, it also carries obstetric complications and is associated with an increase in neonatal morbidity and stillbirth. We present a case report of a patient, and discuss the importance of proper management in this rare condition.

    Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis is a group of rare diseases of systemic necrotizing vasculitis affecting small and medium-sized vessels and may be associated with the presence of anti- neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody. Vessels in different organs and systems are involved, leading to various clinical manifestations of the disease. We present 3 cases of microscopic polyangiitis which have been diagnosed and treated in one medical department for over 4 years. The first patient presented with a clinical picture resembling idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and the diagnosis of microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) was established only when acute renal failure appeared. With appropriate therapy, the renal function normalized but her respiratory status deteriorated and she died due to pulmonary infection. The second case presented with constitutional symptoms such as general weakness, weight loss, leg edema and elevated CRP. During the investigation, mononeuritis multiplex and then MPA wnosis of microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) was established only when acute renal failure appeared. With appropriate therapy, the renal function normalized but her respiratory status deteriorated and she died due to pulmonary infection. The second case presented with constitutional symptoms such as general weakness, weight loss, leg edema and elevated CRP. During the investigation, mononeuritis multiplex and then MPA were diagnosed. She was successfully treated. The third patient diagnosed with MPA presented as end stage renal failure and was treated by cyclophosphamide and rituximab. He did not receive cotrimoxazole that was recommended and was hospitalized for pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia. Despite intensive therapy in the ICU by various antibiotics and mechanical ventilation, his condition deteriorated and the patient died.

In unusual cases the syndrome can appear due to other causes, such as muscle tear and present with different clinical signs and rates of presentation. Exertional compartment syndrome presents in the pediatric population, but can rarely present in the foot. High clinical suspicion and awareness can help the diagnosis in challenging cases.

  • Further studies should consider reporting main cephalometric data, temporomandibular diagnosis, hormonal levels, and tomographic measures before and after the surgery at least every 6 months during the firsts two years to identify accurately risk factors for condylar resorption.This randomized parallel-group control trial tested the efficacy of distraction using audiovisual eyeglasses (AVE) during dental procedures [NCT03902158]. Forty-four 6-9 year-old children with low/moderate anxiety and who needed restorative treatment or exodontia of the primary molars were randomly allocated into two groups the AVE (experimental) and the conventional behavior management techniques (control) groups. Motion sensors were used to measure the participants' body movements. Dental visits were video recorded, and their pain levels and behavior were assessed using the Faces, Legs, Activity, Cry, and Consolability Behavioral Pain Assessment Scale and the Venham Behavioral Scale, respectively. Anxiety was assessed via heart rate measurements. After treatment, the children scored their pain using the Faces Pain Scale. Mann-Whitney U and chi-square tests were used to compare the groups. The mean score on the behavioral scale was 0.59 in the experimental group and 0.72 in the control group under local anesthesia (p = 0.73). During the procedure, the mean score was 0.41 in the experimental group and 1.32 in the control group (p = 0.07). The mean heart rate was similar in both groups (p = 0.47), but a significant increase during treatment was observed in the control group. There was no difference between the groups in terms of pain, behavior, and self-reported pain scores (p = 0.08). Children aged 6-7 who used the AVE had fewer wrist movements (435.6) than that of children in the control group (1170.4) (p = 0.04). Of the Brazilian regions, the South presented the highest median, while the North and Northeast regions presented the lowest one. The oral health services presented dental offices with good availability of equipment and dental supplies to perform clinical activities. However, differences in the structure of services among the Brazilian regions was still observed.This study aimed to determine the mean distances between apexes of the maxillary posterior teeth and the maxillary sinus, between apexes of the mandibular posterior teeth and the mandibular canal, and between the root apexes of all teeth and the adjacent cortical plates. A total of 800 cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans (400 maxillary and 400 mandibular) were obtained from patients indicated for several treatments. The proximity between apexes and anatomical structures, and the relationship between apexes and adjacent cortical plates were assessed together with the risk of over-instrumentation. Paired-sample comparisons were performed by using the paired t-test. The means were compared by ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis and Dwass-Steel-Critchlow-Fligner tests. a) Most of the apexes classified as A (high-risk proximity) were observed in maxillary first and second molars, in mandibular first and second molars, and in second premolars in relation to near anatomical structures. b) A predominance of class A (86.42%) was noticed in the first premolars, between apexes of maxillary teeth and adjacent cortical plates. c) The distance between apexes of mandibular teeth and buccal cortical plates showed a predominance of medium-risk proximity (B) in all the groups, except the first premolars, with the highest risk (82.22%), and the second molars, with low-risk proximity (C) to distal and mesiobuccal apexes (91.77% and 89.62%). CBCT images are important for endodontic diagnosis and treatment, since many teeth have high risk proximity to near anatomical structures and adjacent cortical plates.

The oral health services presented dental offices with good availability of equipment and dental supplies to perform clinical activities. However, differences in the structure of services among the Brazilian regions was still observed.This study aimed to determine the mean distances between apexes of the maxillary posterior teeth and the maxillary sinus, between apexes of the mandibular posterior teeth and the mandibular canal, and between the root apexes of all teeth and the adjacent cortical plates. A total of 800 cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans (400 maxillary and 400 mandibular) were obtained from patients indicated for several treatments. The proximity between apexes and anatomical structures, and the relationship between apexes and adjacent cortical plates were assessed together with the risk of over-instrumentation. Paired-sample comparisons were performed by using the paired t-test. The means were compared by ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis and Dwass-Steel-Critchlow-Fligner tests. a) Most of the apexes classified as A (high-risk proximity) were observed in maxillary first and second molars, in mandibular first and second molars, and in second premolars in relation to near anatomical structures. b) A predominance of class A (86.42%) was noticed in the first premolars, between apexes of maxillary teeth and adjacent cortical plates. c) The distance between apexes of mandibular teeth and buccal cortical plates showed a predominance of medium-risk proximity (B) in all the groups, except the first premolars, with the highest risk (82.22%), and the second molars, with low-risk proximity (C) to distal and mesiobuccal apexes (91.77% and 89.62%). CBCT images are important for endodontic diagnosis and treatment, since many teeth have high risk proximity to near anatomical structures and adjacent cortical plates.

    Malignant pleural effusion is a severe and common complication in patients with primary or metastatic malignancies of the pleura. Although talc pleurodesis is widely used for managing malignant pleural effusions, there is still controversy in the literature regarding its superiority compared to other approaches. We conducted this meta-analysis to further investigate its efficacy compared to alternative interventions.

    We systematically reviewed the PubMed, Cochrane, and Scopus databases to identify studies that fulfilled our inclusion criteria. Study quality was evaluated using validated tools and the pooled Risk Ratio (RR) and confidence interval (CI) were calculated. We performed sensitivity analyses based on themeta-analysis method and type of study.

Herein, we report a case of atypical primary angiosarcoma of the anterior mediastinum causing constrictive pericarditis and restrictive pulmonary dysfunction.We studied the effect of graphene oxide (GO) nanoparticles on differentiation of human myeloid suppressor cells (MDSC) in an in vitro system. Separated mononuclear cells of healthy donors were induced with cytokines (IL-6 and GM-CSF) into the MDSC phenotype (both polymorphonuclear (PMN-MDSC) and monocyte (M-MDSC) subsets of these cells were taken into account). Pegylated GO nanoparticles (GO-PEG; mean size 569±14 nm, PEG content ~20%) were used. GO-PEG in low concentrations (2.5 and 5 μg/ml) increased the percentage of MDSC in cultures, but reduced their content in high concentration (10 μg/ml). After exposure to GO-PEG (2.5 and 5 μg/ml), the MDSC content increased at the expense of M-MDSC, while the level of PMN-MDSC did not change. The decrease in MDSC levels after exposure to high doses of GO-PEG (10 μg/ml) was due to a decrease in PMN-MDSC. Genetic inhibition of RA production in tumor cells or pharmacologic inhibition of RA signaling within TME increases stimulatory monocyte-derived cells, enhances T cell-dependent anti-tumor immunity, and synergizes with immune checkpoint blockade. Furthermore, an RA-responsive gene signature in human monocytes correlates with an immunosuppressive TME in multiple human tumors. RA has been considered as an anti-cancer agent, whereas our work demonstrates its tumorigenic capability via myeloid-mediated immune suppression and provides proof of concept for targeting this pathway for tumor immunotherapy. Here, we identified two Arabidopsis ankyrin-repeat proteins, STT1 and STT2, that specifically mediate sorting of chloroplast twin arginine translocation (cpTat) pathway proteins to thylakoid membranes. STT1 and STT2 form a unique hetero-dimer through interaction of their C-terminal ankyrin domains. Binding of cpTat substrate by N-terminal intrinsically disordered regions of STT complex induces liquid-liquid phase separation.
