Male and female plants showed increased leaf photosynthetic capacity at higher elevation generally with no sex-specific difference. Photosynthetic photon flux density-saturated photosynthesis (Asat) was limited mostly by diffusional components (77 ± 1%), whereas biochemical components contributed minor limitations (22 ± 1%). Persons living with HIV (PLWH) experience a high burden of cancer. It remains unknown which cancer types are reduced in PLWH with earlier initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART).
We evaluated AIDS-free, ART-naive PLWH during 1996-2014 from 22 cohorts participating in the North American AIDS Cohort Collaboration on Research and Design. PLWH were followed from first observed CD4 of 350-500 cells/µl (baseline) until incident cancer, death, lost-to-follow-up or December 2014. Outcomes included six cancer groups and five individual cancers that were confirmed by chart review or cancer registry linkage. We evaluated the effect of earlier (in the first 6 months after baseline) versus deferred ART initiation on cancer risk. Marginal structural models were used with inverse probability weighting to account for time-dependent confounding and informative right-censoring, with weights informed by subject's age, sex, cohort, baseline year, race/ethnicity, HIV transmission risk, smoking, viral hepatitis, CD4, and AIDS diagnoses.

Low temperature limits the growth and development and geographical distribution of plants. Poa pratensis is a cool-season turfgrass mainly grown in urban areas. However, low winter temperature or cold events in spring and autumn may cause P.pratensis mortality, affecting the appearance of lawns. P.pratensis var. anceps cv. The 4th National Audit Project of The Royal College of Anaesthetists and The Difficult Airway Society (NAP4) reported a higher incidence of supraglottic airway device (SAD) related pulmonary aspiration in obese patients especially with the first-generation SADs. The latest single-use SAD, the Protector™ provides a functional separation of the respiratory and digestive tracts and its laryngeal cuff with two ports allowing additional suction in tandem with the insertion of a gastric tube. The laryngeal cuff of LMA Protector™ allows a large catchment reservoir in the event of gastric content aspiration.
We evaluated the performance characteristics of the LMA Protector™ in 30 unparalysed, moderately obese patients. First attempt insertion rate, time for insertion, oropharyngeal leak pressure (OLP), and incidence of complications were recorded.
We found high first and second attempt insertion rates of 28(93%) and 1(33%) respectively, with one failed attempt where no capnography trace could be detected, presumably from a downfolded device tip. The LMA Protector™ was inserted rapidly in 21.0(4.0) seconds and demonstrated high OLP of 31.8(5.4) cmH2O. Fibreoptic assessment showed a clear view of vocal cords in 93%. The incidence of blood staining on removal of device was 48%, postoperative sore throat 27%, dysphagia 10% and dysphonia 20% (all self-limiting, resolving a few hours postoperatively).
We conclude that the LMA Protector™ was associated with easy, expedient first attempt insertion success, demonstrating high oropharyngeal pressures and good anatomical position in the moderately obese population, with relatively low postoperative airway morbidity.

Analysis of somatic mutations from tumor whole exomes has fueled discovery of novel cancer driver genes. However, ~ 98% of the genome is non-coding and includes regulatory elements whose normal cellular functions can be disrupted by mutation. Whole genome sequencing (WGS), on the other hand, allows for identification of non-coding somatic variation and expanded estimation of background mutation rates, yet fewer computational tools exist for specific interrogation of this space.
We present MutEnricher, a flexible toolset for investigating somatic mutation enrichment in both coding and non-coding genomic regions from WGS data. MutEnricher contains two distinct modules for these purposes that provide customizable options for calculating sample- and feature-specific background mutation rates. Additionally, both MutEnricher modules calculate feature-level and local, or "hotspot," somatic mutation enrichment statistics.
MutEnricher is a flexible software package for investigating somatic mutation enrichment that is implemented in Python, is freely available, can be efficiently parallelized, and is highly configurable to researcher's specific needs. It has been widely accepted that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in the development and progression of human diseases. Many association prediction models have been proposed for predicting lncRNA functions and identifying potential lncRNA-disease associations. Nevertheless, among them, little effort has been attempted to measure lncRNA functional similarity, which is an essential part of association prediction models.
In this study, we presented an lncRNA functional similarity calculation model, IDSSIM for short, based on an improved disease semantic similarity method, highlight of which is the introduction of information content contribution factor into the semantic value calculation to take into account both the hierarchical structures of disease directed acyclic graphs and the disease specificities. IDSSIM and three state-of-the-art models, i.e., LNCSIM1, LNCSIM2, and ILNCSIM, were evaluated by applying their disease semantic similarity matrices and the lncRNA functional similarity matrices, as well as corresponding matrices of human lncRNA-disease associations coming from either lncRNADisease database or MNDR database, into an association prediction method WKNKN for lncRNA-disease association prediction.

Cardiomyocyte function was assessed by measuring calcium transients and unloaded sarcomere lengths for up to 2 days post-isolation. P188 did not consistently alter calcium handling or sarcomere shortening in the isolated cardiomyocytes. For this purpose, **** were initially induced to obesity for 8 weeks following a treatment with FO containing high concentration of EPA compared to DHA (51), for additional 8 weeks (by gavage, 3 times per week). Despite the higher fat intake, the HF group showed lower food intake but higher body weight, glucose intolerance and insulin resistance, significant dyslipidemia and increased liver, subcutaneous (inguinal-ING) and visceral (retroperitoneal-RP) adipose depots mass, accompanied by adipocyte hypertrophy and decreased cellularity in both adipose tissue depots. FO treatment reversed all these effects, as well as it improved the metabolic activities of isolated adipocytes, such as glucose uptake and lipolysis in both depots, and de novo synthesis of fatty acids in ING adipocytes. HF diet also significantly increased both the pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines expression by adipocytes, while HF + FO did not differ from control group. For this purpose, mice were initially induced to obesity for 8 weeks following a treatment with FO containing high concentration of EPA compared to DHA (51), for additional 8 weeks (by gavage, 3 times per week). Despite the higher fat intake, the HF group showed lower food intake but higher body weight, glucose intolerance and insulin resistance, significant dyslipidemia and increased liver, subcutaneous (inguinal-ING) and visceral (retroperitoneal-RP) adipose depots mass, accompanied by adipocyte hypertrophy and decreased cellularity in both adipose tissue depots. FO treatment reversed all these effects, as well as it improved the metabolic activities of isolated adipocytes, such as glucose uptake and lipolysis in both depots, and de novo synthesis of fatty acids in ING adipocytes. HF diet also significantly increased both the pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines expression by adipocytes, while HF + FO did not differ from control group. C. jeikeium endocarditis is extremely difficult to treat as it is characteristically resistant to penicillin, cephalosporins and aminoglycosides, and sensitivity to quinolones, macrolides, tetracyclines and rifampin is variable. Despite treatment, mortality rates as high as 33% have been reported. We hereby review the literature regarding the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of this deadly microorganism.Rash is one of the most common adverse events observed with mogamulizumab, an anti-C-C chemokine receptor 4 monoclonal antibody approved for previously treated mycosis fungoides (MF) and Sezary syndrome (SS). Given the nonspecific clinical presentations of this rash, histopathologic distinction from MF/SS is critical for informing clinical management. We performed a comprehensive characterization of the histopathologic findings in mogamulizumab-associated rash (MAR) with the integration of high-throughput sequencing of T-cell receptor (TCR) genes. Fifty-two biopsy specimens from 19 patients were evaluated retrospectively. Three major histologic reaction patterns were identified spongiotic/psoriasiform dermatitis (33/52), interface dermatitis (11/52), and granulomatous dermatitis (8/52). Almost half of the specimens (21/52) showed at least 2 of these reaction patterns concurrently. This study reports the incidence of insertional calcific tendinopathy (ICT) of the Achilles tendon in the general population and the percentage of symptomatic patients. The secondary aim is to ascertain whether ICT is associated with diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, obesity, and hypercholesterolemia. We hypothesized that metabolic diseases increase the risk of ICT of the Achilles tendon.

We collected the plain radiographs of the foot and ankle of patients who attended the hospital. Multivariate regression analyses were performed to study the predictors of the occurrence of Achilles ICT.
A total of 101 patients (23.3%) showed radiographic evidence of ICT, and 3% (13 patients) were symptomatic. Age [odds ratio (OR) 1.05], diabetes (OR 2.95), hypercholesterolemia (OR 2.27), and hypothyroidism (OR 3.32) were significantly associated with the presence of ICT of the Achilles tendon. Independent predictors of ICT were age, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and hypothyroidism. A BMI >30 was associated with a higher incidence of calcifications, and patients with 2 or more comorbidities had more than 10 times higher risk to develop ICT.

Respondents also perceived a lack of sufficient education/training (40.9%), experience (20.5%), and a lack of evidence in the field (20.5%) for dermatologists as potential barriers to cosmetic care for male patients. Presence of targeted messaging and in-office educational materials for male patients was found to be associated with increased utilization of cosmetic treatments by male patients (p = .012, p = .012, respectively). Dermatologists reported strong confidence in delivering various noninvasive cosmetic treatments to male patients.

A total of 72 patients with PTC were included. Disease recurrence and metastasis were evaluated based on the imaging performance and laboratory tests. Perfusion parameters were recorded and compared. After biopsy, the tumor tissues were subjected to hematoxylin and eosin staining, and the expression levels of P53 and Ki67 were detected using immunohistochemistry. The association between the CEUS parameters and the expression of P53 and Ki67 was analyzed. Risk factors for disease recurrence were analyzed using logistic regression. Compared with normal tissues, PTC tissue was characterized by a slow perfusion pattern with no obvious enhancement. The peak time and intensity were lower, while the initial increasing time and mean transit time (MTT) were longer in the PTC tissue. The expression levels of P53 and Ki67 in PTC tissues were associated with age, local infiltration, lymph node metastasis and the number of lesions, but not with gender, tumor size, histological type or degree of differentiation. The initial increasing time, peak time and MTT were negatively correlated, while the peak intensity was positively correlated with the expression of P53 and Ki67 in PTC tissues. Multivariate logistic regression analysis suggested that lymph node metastasis, age, local infiltration, peak intensity and MTT were risk factors for disease recurrence. A systematic review was performed by using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The data were analyzed with RevMan v5.3.0. A total of six articles including 2,041 participants were studied. The analysis demonstrated a significantly greater decrease in international prostate symptom score [IPSS; mean difference (MD), -0.86; 95% CI, -1.62 to -0.11; P=0.02] and prostate-specific antigen (PSA; MD, -0.13; 95% CI, -0.26 to -0.01; P=0.03) in the dutasteride group compared with that in the finasteride group, whereas no significant differences were observed in prostate volume (PV; P=0.64), maximum urine flow rate (Qmax; P=0.29) and post-void residual volume (PVRV; P=0.14). With regard to safety assessment, including any adverse event (P=0.66), decreased libido (P=0.39) and impotence (P=0.17), there was no significant difference between dutasteride and finasteride. A total of 72 patients with PTC were included. Disease recurrence and metastasis were evaluated based on the imaging performance and laboratory tests. Perfusion parameters were recorded and compared. After biopsy, the tumor tissues were subjected to hematoxylin and eosin staining, and the expression levels of P53 and Ki67 were detected using immunohistochemistry. The association between the CEUS parameters and the expression of P53 and Ki67 was analyzed. Risk factors for disease recurrence were analyzed using logistic regression. Compared with normal tissues, PTC tissue was characterized by a slow perfusion pattern with no obvious enhancement. The peak time and intensity were lower, while the initial increasing time and mean transit time (MTT) were longer in the PTC tissue. The expression levels of P53 and Ki67 in PTC tissues were associated with age, local infiltration, lymph node metastasis and the number of lesions, but not with gender, tumor size, histological type or degree of differentiation. The initial increasing time, peak time and MTT were negatively correlated, while the peak intensity was positively correlated with the expression of P53 and Ki67 in PTC tissues. Multivariate logistic regression analysis suggested that lymph node metastasis, age, local infiltration, peak intensity and MTT were risk factors for disease recurrence. A systematic review was performed by using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The data were analyzed with RevMan v5.3.0. A total of six articles including 2,041 participants were studied. The analysis demonstrated a significantly greater decrease in international prostate symptom score [IPSS; mean difference (MD), -0.86; 95% CI, -1.62 to -0.11; P=0.02] and prostate-specific antigen (PSA; MD, -0.13; 95% CI, -0.26 to -0.01; P=0.03) in the dutasteride group compared with that in the finasteride group, whereas no significant differences were observed in prostate volume (PV; P=0.64), maximum urine flow rate (Qmax; P=0.29) and post-void residual volume (PVRV; P=0.14). The aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of Extracorporeal Shock Wave (ECSW) in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis (LE) of humerus.
ECSW therapy in people with LE effectively reduces the pain and gains functional rehabilitation.
Databases of PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library from inception to April 2020 was searched to identify all relevant RCTs comparing ECSW therapy with any other conservative treatment, including injection and local anesthetic versus placebo or control in patients aged 18 with LE. The primary outcome is the mean overall pain score at 12 weeks after treatment. Another secondary outcome mainly included Thomsen test, 50% pain reduction, grip strength and adverse effect at 12 weeks after treatment.
Nine studies were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with the placebo group, ECSW cannot significantly reduce the pain score (mean deviation [MD] = -4.23, 95% confidence interval [CI] -8.78 to 0.32, P = .07), but make more people acquiro 1.75, P = .008). There was no significant difference between ECSW and control in decreasing the pain score of Thomsen test (MD = -3.22, 95% CI -14.06 to 7.62, P = .56). ECSW was more effective in Grip strength as compared with control at 12 weeks-3 months (MD = 3.52, 95% CI 2.43 to 4.60, P  less then  .00001) CONCLUSIONS Results suggested that ECSW cannot effectively reduce the mean overall pain, but it showed more people acquire 50% pain reduction and might be a better option for the treatment of LE. Degenerative knee osteoarthritis (KOA) shows an increase in morbidity with improvement in the living conditions and extended lifespans. Treatment for degenerative KOA has been gaining attention since it significantly affects the life of the elderly population and is also associated with increased expenses for medical services and high socioeconomic costs. Treatments for degenerative KOA include nondrug therapy, drug therapy, and surgical treatment. For cases that show little response to conservative treatment but have not involved severe deformation of the knee, procedures such as arthroscopic surgery, autologous chondrocyte implantation, or autologous osteochondral transplantation can be performed. However, effective treatment is required for patients experiencing sustained knee pain after surgery. In this study, we explored a conservation process from an ethnoprimatological perspective for the management of national parks and nature reserves. We accumulated attitude and knowledge data on the traditional culture, religion, and current attitudes to conservation of rural and urban groups of ethnic Lisu people, who live in the village of Liju or have migrated to urban areas, respectively. The data clearly indicated that most of the interviewees had similar feelings and attitudes toward the conservation of Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys (Rhinopithecus bieti) and Laojun Mountain National Park (LMNP), irrespective of whether they live in or have moved away from their home village, or if their educational background differs. Both the rural (96.6%) and urban (100%) interviewees expressed their deep affection for Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys and supported (90.3% and 89.0%, respectively) the seasonal closure of mountainous areas for conservation purposes. The Lisu peoples culture, history, and traditions were evaluated with regards to the developing trend for environmentalism, and their advanced attitudes toward environmental protection and resource utilization exceeded our expectations. The results of this study show huge potential for the optimal mitigation of human-animal conflict in the context of conservation planning not only for LMNP but also for other national parks and nature reserves.In many social species, after the alpha male has been replaced or the group disintegrates, a female's infant is at risk of infanticide by a male. Female gorillas have developed the rare strategy of secondary dispersal in which they transfer between reproductive groups during the limited time period between weaning an infant and conceiving the next one (voluntary dispersal). By doing so they leave a weaker silverback near the end of his tenure and join a stronger silverback at an earlier stage of his own tenure, thereby mitigating the risk of infanticide if the former dies. If females are pregnant or have unweaned offspring when the only male in the group dies, their offspring are vulnerable to infanticide by the new silverback that they join (via involuntary dispersal). In the few known cases of female gorillas transferring when pregnant (mainly after group disintegration), their offspring were killed. The females gave birth 5-6 months (gestation period 8.5 months) after their last transfer. These observations highlight the behavioural plasticity shown by female gorillas in response to sexual coercion by males.
Pelvic ballistic injuries threaten critical gastrointestinal, vascular, and urinary structures. We report the treatment patterns and injury profiles of ballistic pelvic fractures and the association between location of ballistic fractures of the pelvis and visceral injuries.
A prospectively collected database at an academic level I trauma center was reviewed for clinical and radiographic data on patients who sustained one or more ballistic fractures of the pelvis. Main outcomes compared included procedures with orthopedic surgery, emergent surgery, concomitant intrapelvic injuries, and mortality.
Eighty-six patients were included. Eight patients (9.3%) underwent surgical debridement with orthopedic surgery, no ballistic pelvic fractures required surgical stabilization. The anatomical locations of ballistic pelvic fractures included 10 (14.7%) anterior ring, 13 (19.1%) posterior ring, 27 (39.7%) anterior column, and 18 (20.9%) posterior column. There was a statistically significant association between anterior ring and rectal injury. The association between anterior ring injury and bladder injury approached significance.
This case series included 86 patients with a ballistic fracture of the pelvis, none requiring pelvic ring surgical stabilization. The unpatterned behavior of these injuries demands a high suspicion for visceral injury, with special attention to the rectum and bladder in the setting of anterior ring involvement.

It also shows that Georg Frankl's influence on Kanner was important, but Kanner did not misappropriate his ideas or his research. While no one theory has been able to fully explain the etiology behind exercise-associated muscle cramping, further classification of acute localized cramping and systemic or recurrent cramping may help guide future treatment and prevention strategies. Neuromuscular fatigue more than electrolyte deficit or dehydration is believed to play a large role in development of exercise-associated muscle cramps. Despite inconclusive evidence at this time, electrolyte deficit may play more of a role in the development of recurrent or systemic muscle cramping in the tennis athlete. More research is needed to better define its conclusive etiology.

In the few known cases of female gorillas transferring when pregnant (mainly after group disintegration), their offspring were killed. A prospectively collected database at an academic level I trauma center was reviewed for clinical and radiographic data on patients who sustained one or more ballistic fractures of the pelvis. Main outcomes compared included procedures with orthopedic surgery, emergent surgery, concomitant intrapelvic injuries, and mortality. Eighty-six patients were included. Eight patients (9.3%) underwent surgical debridement with orthopedic surgery, no ballistic pelvic fractures required surgical stabilization. The anatomical locations of ballistic pelvic fractures included 10 (14.7%) anterior ring, 13 (19.1%) posterior ring, 27 (39.7%) anterior column, and 18 (20.9%) posterior column. The median age was 50 years (range, 29-75), and all patients were females. According to the CNS-International Prognostic Index, most patients (n = 28) were categorized as the low-risk group. Among the 33 patients, 32 completed R-CHOP, and 31 completed IT-MTX as planned. With a median follow-up of 46.1 months (interquartile range (IQR), 31.1-66.8), the 2-year progression-free and overall survival rates were 81.3% and 93.5%, respectively. In the following 15 years, numerous researchers independently contributed paradigm shifting discoveries that formed the foundation of nitrification and nitrification-related research. One of them was Sergei Winogradsky, whose major accomplishments include the discovery of both lithotrophy (in sulfur-oxidizing bacteria) and chemoautotrophy (in nitrifying bacteria). However, Winogradsky often receives most of the credit for many other foundational nitrification discoveries made by his contemporaries. This accumulation of credit over time is at least in part due to the increased attention, Winogradsky receives in the scientific literature and textbooks as a "founder of microbiology" and "the founder of microbial ecology." Here, some light is shed on several other researchers who are often overlooked, but whose work was instrumental to the emerging field of nitrification and to the work of Winogradsky himself. Specifically, the discovery of the biological process of nitrification by Schloesing and Müntz, the isolation of the first nitrifier by Grace and Percy Frankland, and the observation that nitrification is carried out by two distinct groups of microorganisms by Robert Warington are highlighted. Finally, the more recent discoveries of the chemolithoautotrophic ammonia-oxidizing archaea and complete ammonia oxidizers are put into this historical context.Short rotation coppice (SRC) with metal tolerant plants may attenuate the pollution of excessive elements with potential toxicity in soils, while preserving soil resources and functionality. Though metal total concentrations did not differ by SRC and Unt, SRC soils had lower metal availability and toxicity, higher organic carbon, microbial biomass, phosphatase, urease and protease activities, as compared to Unt soils. Significantly reduced abundances of genes encoding resistances to various metals and antibiotics were observed in SRC, likely attributed to reduced metal selective pressure based on less heavy metal availability and soil toxicity. SRC also significantly reduced abundances of genes involved in nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur cycles, possibly due to the willow induced selection. Bacterial community analysis indicates that the N removal in the cathode area of CM-A could potentially benefit from the appearance of nitrifying bacteria (e.g., Nitrosomonas and Nitrospira) and relatively high abundance of denitrifiers involved in simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (e.g., Hydrogenophaga, Zoogloea, and Dechloromonas) and denitrifying sulfide removal (e.g., Thauera). Additionally, the difference in N removal efficiency among the CW-**** could be partly explained by higher iron (Fe) content in milled ceramsite granules and higher abundance of denitrifiers with nitrate reduction and ferrous ions oxidation capabilities in CM-A compared with that in CM-B and CM-C. Efficient PO43--P removal in CM-A was mainly ascribed to substrate adsorption and denitrifying phosphorus (P) removal. With an HRT of 2.8 d, the ammonium (NH4+-N) and orthophosphate (PO43--P) removal efficiencies in CM-A were as high as 93.8 and 99.6%, respectively. Bacterial community analysis indicates that the N removal in the cathode area of CM-A could potentially benefit from the appearance of nitrifying bacteria (e.g., Nitrosomonas and Nitrospira) and relatively high abundance of denitrifiers involved in simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (e.g., Hydrogenophaga, Zoogloea, and Dechloromonas) and denitrifying sulfide removal (e.g., Thauera). Additionally, the difference in N removal efficiency among the CW-MFCs could be partly explained by higher iron (Fe) content in milled ceramsite granules and higher abundance of denitrifiers with nitrate reduction and ferrous ions oxidation capabilities in CM-A compared with that in CM-B and CM-C. Efficient PO43--P removal in CM-A was mainly ascribed to substrate adsorption and denitrifying phosphorus (P) removal.
