Materials and Methods In this study, 64 occurrence records of the H. lepturus were extracted from the published documents available in electronic databases. MaxEnt model was used for predicting the ecological niches of this species. Normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and 19 climatic variables were used as the environmental variables affecting the distribution of this scorpion. The Jackknife test in the model was used to indicate the importance of variables to predict the probability of the presence of the studied species. The logistic threshold that was evaluated using a logistic regression algorithm showed the converting of the probability model into a binary model. The model was evaluated byarea under the curve (AUC). The probability presence map of this scorpion was then prepared in ArcGIS 10.5 S high-risk areas. Their management is increasingly complicated by the emergence and dissemination of multiresistance to various first-line antimicrobial agents. This study aimed to evaluate the resistance level to the commonly used antibiotics, with a focus on the first-line antimicrobial agents, in E. coli strains isolated from poultry in Western Algeria. Materials and Methods E. coli culture was done on MacConkey agar and their identification was determined by AP20E system. For susceptibility testing, disk diffusion method to 14 antimicrobials, including first-line antibiotics, was used according to Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method in Mueller-Hinton agar and the results were interpreted according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines. E. coli isolates were considered as multidrug resistance (MDR) when found resistant to at least one antimicrobial agent of three different families of antnt to at least three antibiotics). In addition, five E. coli isolates (3.44%) were confirmed to be ESBL producers. Conclusion The alarming rate of E. coli resistant to multiple first-line antibiotics in poultry demands intensified surveillance. These results call for taking drastic measures to preserve antibiotic effectiveness and reduce the emergence risks of extensively drug-resistant and pandrug-resistant E. coli isolates. The study aimed to obtain epidemiological information concerning prevalence and the distribution of bovine cysticercosis in Bali and Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Materials and Methods A total of 267 community-owned Bali cattle serum samples from the provinces of Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara were examined. The study was conducted by examining the serum of Bali cattle using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique. Risk factors related to cysticercosis that analyzed were sex, breeding type, age, physical condition, source of drinking water, pen condition, and latrine availability. Results Seven of 91 Bali cattle sera from all regencies/cities in Bali showed a positive result. Those positive sera were originated from Buleleng (1), Gianyar (2), Denpasar (2), and Klungkung (2). Meanwhile, four of 92 Bali cattle sera from West Nusa Tenggara and seven of 84 from East Nusa Tenggara occurred antibodies against T. saginata. We identified that two risk factors that influence the incidence of T. saginata infection in Bali cattle in Bali were the sex and the cattle breeding type. Conclusion Through this research can be made a map of bovine cysticercosis in Bali cattle in Bali and Nusa Tenggara region. By mapping the disease, it is recommended that the animal health officers should be more accurate when conducting postmortem examination, especially on cattle from a positive region. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence and identify and characterize of Salmonella spp. isolated from broiler farms of Gazipur, Tangail, and Dhaka districts of Bangladesh. This study also evaluated the difference of Salmonella positivity status between two groups of farms, good practices adapted in broiler rearing at the project intervened farms, and non-project intervened traditional farms. Materials and Methods A total of 352 samples including 128 cloacal swabs, 32 whole carcasses, 64 feed, 64 water, and 64 attendants' hand rinses were collected through convenient sampling technique from 16 poultry food safety project of Food and Agricultural Organization of United Nations Bangladesh intervened farms and other 16 non-project intervened farms in the same location. Various cultural based techniques and biochemical methods were employed for the estimation of prevalence, isolation, and identifilarmingly, 80.91% (89/110) isolates were shown to be multidrug-resistant Salmonella spp. Conclusion The study has presented a significant variation of the prevalence of Salmonella spp. between project intervened and non-project intervened farms, and this indicates project intervened farms are comparatively safer than the non-intervened farms considering public health and food safety grounds. This research outcome also has highlighted a substantial proportion of poultry origin multidrug resistance Salmonella spp. is a potential source of public health hazards. In this regard, proper awareness creation and motivational activities on good agriculture practices in poultry rearing and maintaining good personal hygiene at the farmers' level are warranted through participatory training. This study aimed to detect antibiotic-resistant bacteria from houseflies, and to examine their resistance genes. Materials and Methods A total of 140 houseflies were captured using sterile nylon net from seven places of Mymensingh city, Bangladesh. Immediately after collection, flies were transferred to a sterile zipper bag and brought to microbiology laboratory within 1 h. Three bacterial species were isolated from houseflies, based on cultural and molecular tests. After that, the isolates were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing against commonly used antibiotics, by the disk diffusion method. Finally, the detection of antibiotic resistance genes tetA, tetB, mcr-3, ****, and **** was performed by a polymerase chain reaction. Results The most common isolates were Staphylococcus aureus (78.6%), Salmonella spp.

In summary, our findings provide insights into a better molecular understanding of the component strains of human leptospirosis vaccine in China. Furthermore, these data detail the genetic composition and evolutionary relatedness of Leptospira strains that pose a health risk to humans.In July 2017, the Japanese Association for Infectious Diseases issued guidance for the administration of the PPSV23 revaccination. Despite increasing recognition of its protective benefits, levels of PPSV23 revaccination coverage rate in Japanese elderly population are unclear at present. Here, we report the results of a survey to know PPSV23 revaccination rates among elderly patients aged 65 and older. We asked an array of questions related to PPSV23 revaccination to Elderly adults and doctors across Japan via Web-based surveys in June 2018. The sampled population consisted of 5,085 men and women aged 65 and older. The PPSV23 revaccination coverage rate was estimated by survey questions regarded vaccination counts, intervals, and vaccine type. In addition, 400 internal medicine physicians were surveyed and asked about their reasons for recommending PPSV23 revaccination to elderly patients. In total, 1,648 elderly adults had received at least one PPSV23 dose; of these, 58 had received it at least twice (revaccination coverage rate 3.5%). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/hrs-4642.html The most commonly cited justification for revaccination with PPSV23 among the surveyed physicians was that the benefits of revaccination exceed the risks of revaccination. For the nanocarbon group, after thyroid exposure, nanocarbon was injected into the thyroid gland, and the SLNs were resected and subjected to frozen sectioning and routine pathological examination. In addition, the postoperative calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels of both groups were analyzed to compare the features of the nanocarbon application. Results The number of central lymph (level VI) nodes dissected and the number of metastatic lymph nodes identified were analyzed in both groups. The number of dissected lymph nodes from both unilateral and bilateral thyroid surgeries was significantly larger in the nanocarbon group than in the control group. At the same time, the number of identified metastasis lymph nodes dissected were higher in the nanocarbon group than in the control group. We assessed the postoperative calcium and PTH level to evaluate the parathyroid function. Our results show that the nanocarbon group had a better protective effect on parathyroid function than the control group. Conclusions As a lymph node trace agent, nanocarbon could better evaluate and permit a more clear lymph dissection for patients with PTC. No previous studies have objectively measured this motion in trauma patients with potential spine injuries during prehospital care.Objective The purpose of this study was to characterize head-neck (H-N) kinematics in a sample of trauma patients receiving spinal precautions in the field.Methods This was a prospective observational study of trauma patients in the prehospital setting. Trauma patients meeting criteria for spinal precautions were eligible for inclusion. Participants received usual care, consisting of either a long backboard, cervical collar and head blocks (**) or a cervical collar only (CO), and behavior was categorized as compliant (C) or non-compliant (N). Three inertial measurement units (IMUs), placed on eacars to be greater than previously recorded in simulation studies, and to be associated with patient behavior. Miniature IMUs are a feasible approach to field-based measurement of H-N kinematics in trauma patients. Convergent and discriminant validity was indicated by moderate-to-strong correlations between the PSS and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), PSS pain item and EQ-5D pain/discomfort item at week 12 (0.63), and moderate negative correlation with EQ-Visual Analog Scale score at week 12 (-0.37). Known groups validity demonstrated as mean PSS total scores varied by Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) and Static Physician's Global Assessment (sPGA) defined groups (p less then 0.0001). PSS total scores were responsive to changes in PASI score (p less then 0.0001) and sPGA (p less then 0.0001). PSS minimal, clinical, and meaningful change is estimated to be 1 to 2 points; a preliminary responder definition is a total change score of 3 to 4 points.Conclusions The PSS is a short, valid unidimensional measure of psoriasis symptom severity, well suited for use in clinical trials.

Therefore, this study provides a convenient approach to improve the nitrogen removal efficiency of municipal sewage with low C/N.This study aims at exploring the mechanism of fast-stimulating bioremediation of macro crude oil using matching Fenton pre-oxidation. The 80-day biodegradation experiment for soil S1 and S2, containing macro crude oil C19-C29 and C17-C29 respectively, was conducted after Fenton pre-oxidation with three concentrations of H2O2 (225 mM, 450 mM, and 900 mM). Experimental results indicated that the bioremediation efficiency of macro crude oil was up to 57.1% (8853 mg/kg, S1) and 64.4% (11,719 mg/kg, S2) for 80-day fast-stimulating bioremediation using matching Fenton pre-oxidation (450 mM H2O2), which was 1.8-2.6 times that (S1 22.2-37.1%; S2 36.1-39.6%) for slow-stimulating bioremediation using un-matching Fenton pre-oxidation. Furthermore, the high-throughput analysis revealed that genera Sedimentibacter, Caenispirillum, and Brevundimonas became the dominant bacteria after matching Fenton pre-oxidation. Meanwhile, the highest logarithmic growth rate of indigenous hydrocarbon degraders (IHD) was obtained (S1 64% and S2 60%) for fast-stimulating bioremediation. And the consumption of NH4+-N was up to 90% and 94% in S1 and S2 within 60 days for fast-stimulating bioremediation, approximately 1.4 and 2.2 times that (S1 65% and 62%; S2 47% and 41%) for slow-stimulating remediation. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/bromelain.html The results showed that the macro crude oil became the main carbon source for IHD for the fast-stimulating bioremediation, resulting in the rapid growth of IHD. A thorough understanding of SEAR is necessary for its successful implementation in field remediation. This paper reviewed the SEAR technology in a comprehensive way based on the recent research advances. Firstly, an overview of the basic processes and mechanisms underlying the technology was presented. Secondly, applications of SEAR and the factors that influence the performance were summarized. Thirdly, the key limitations of SEAR, which are downward migration of dense-NAPLs, secondary pollution of surfactants, adsorptive, precipitative and partitioning loss of surfactants, and heterogeneity of the aquifer, were reviewed. Finally, the recent advances in modifying SEAR to overcome the limitations were discussed in detail. The purified laccase (LACREC3-laccase) displayed the absence of a peak at 610 nm that is usually found in blue-laccase. Further, the LACREC3-laccase exhibited high activity and stability at different pH and temperatures with substrates 2, 2'-Azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) and syringaldazine, respectively. It also functioned in the presence of various metals and enzyme inhibitors. Most notably, LACREC3-laccase formed insoluble brown Mn(III)/Mn(IV)-oxide particles from Mn(II) mineral, exhibiting its Mn(II)-oxidase activity. In addition to native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and buffer test, we developed an 'agarose gel plate' assay to evaluate Mn(II) oxidation activity of laccase. Furthermore, using the leucoberbelin blue assay, a total of 44.45 ± 0.45% Mn(IV)-oxides were quantified, in which 5.87 ± 0.61% autoxidized after 24 h. Until now, there are no prior study about the association between HPV infections and ambient air pollution. This study aimed to explore the relationship between short-term exposure to ambient pollutants and daily outpatient visits for HPV infections in China. Data of daily outpatient visits for HPV infections were obtained from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2018 (1826 days). Over-dispersed Poisson generalized additive models were applied by adjusting weather conditions and day of the week. We identified a total of 39,746 cases for HPV infections. A 10 μg/m3 increase of PM10, PM2.5, SO2, and NO2 or a 0.1 mg/m3 rise of CO in concurrent day (lag 0) concentrations was related to an elevation of 0.822% (95% Cl 0.282%, 1.36%), 1.05% (95% Cl 0.280%, 1.81%), 5.72% (95% Cl 1.79%, 9.65%), 5.02% (95% Cl 3.45%, 6.60%), and 2.40% (95% Cl 1.43%, 3.37%) in daily outpatient-visits for HPV infections, respectively. The association was more significant in those women aged 41 or over. As for 10 μg/m3 increase of O3, a -1.33% (95% Cl -2.13%, -0.530%) change was observed on the lag 03 and such effects appeared to be more obvious in the aged 18-40 group. In this study, we intentionally prepared "concentrated" simulated drinking water samples, which contained sufficiently high levels of volatile and nonvolatile DBPs and thus enabled directly evaluating the toxicity of the DBP mixtures without sample pretreatment. Therefore, this study provides a convenient approach to improve the nitrogen removal efficiency of municipal sewage with low C/N.This study aims at exploring the mechanism of fast-stimulating bioremediation of macro crude oil using matching Fenton pre-oxidation. The 80-day biodegradation experiment for soil S1 and S2, containing macro crude oil C19-C29 and C17-C29 respectively, was conducted after Fenton pre-oxidation with three concentrations of H2O2 (225 mM, 450 mM, and 900 mM). Experimental results indicated that the bioremediation efficiency of macro crude oil was up to 57.1% (8853 mg/kg, S1) and 64.4% (11,719 mg/kg, S2) for 80-day fast-stimulating bioremediation using matching Fenton pre-oxidation (450 mM H2O2), which was 1.8-2.6 times that (S1 22.2-37.1%; S2 36.1-39.6%) for slow-stimulating bioremediation using un-matching Fenton pre-oxidation. Furthermore, the high-throughput analysis revealed that genera Sedimentibacter, Caenispirillum, and Brevundimonas became the dominant bacteria after matching Fenton pre-oxidation. Meanwhile, the highest logarithmic growth rate of indigenous hydrocarbon degraders (IHD) was obtained (S1 64% and S2 60%) for fast-stimulating bioremediation. Thirdly, the key limitations of SEAR, which are downward migration of dense-NAPLs, secondary pollution of surfactants, adsorptive, precipitative and partitioning loss of surfactants, and heterogeneity of the aquifer, were reviewed. Finally, the recent advances in modifying SEAR to overcome the limitations were discussed in detail. STUDY DESIGN This cross-sectional study involved 1057 European adolescents aged 12-18 years enrolled in the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence Cross-Sectional Study. Five polymorphisms of CNTF were genotyped, and the weight, height, waist and hip circumference, and triceps and subscapular skinfold thickness of the subjects were measured and recorded. RESULTS The T allele of rs2509914, the C allele of rs2515363, and the G allele of rs2515362 were significantly associated (after Bonferroni correction) with higher values for several adiposity markers under different inheritance models. The CNTF CCGGA haplotype (rs2509914, rs17489568, rs2515363 rs1800169, and rs2515362) was also significantly associated with lower body mass index, waist circumference, waist/height ratio, and waist/hip ratio values compared with the TCCGG haplotype under several inheritance models. CONCLUSIONS Three polymorphisms-rs2509914, rs2515363, and rs2515362-and the CCGGA haplotype of CNTF were significantly associated with adiposity in European adolescents. These results suggest the potential role of CTNF in the development of obesity-related phenotypes. CONCLUSIONS Among our cohort of infants exposed to acyclovir, the rate of AKI was low. During calendar years 2016-2017, 77 case and 77 control sepsis evaluations were identified. Cases included infants who had sepsis evaluations with positive blood cultures and antibiotic duration ≥7 days. Controls were matched by gestational and postmenstrual age, and had sepsis evaluations with negative blood cultures and antibiotic duration ≤48 hours. SIRS criteria were determined at time of sepsis evaluation, and organ dysfunction evaluated in the 72 hours following sepsis evaluation. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney tests, and χ2 (Fisher exact) tests. RESULTS At time of sepsis evaluation, 42% of cases and 26% of controls met SIRS criteria. Among infants of ≤37 weeks postmenstrual age, SIRS criteria were met in only 17% of sepsis evaluations (4 of 23 in both cases and controls). Test characteristics for SIRS at diagnosis of culture-proven sepsis included sensitivity 42% and specificity 74%. Cases had higher rates of new organ dysfunction within 72 hours (40% vs 21%); however, 58% of cases developing organ dysfunction did not meet SIRS criteria at time of sepsis evaluation. Of 6 deaths (all cases with organ dysfunction), 2 did not meet SIRS criteria at sepsis evaluation. CONCLUSIONS SIRS criteria did not accurately identify culture-proven late-onset sepsis, with poorest accuracy in preterm infants. SIRS criteria did not predict later organ dysfunction or mortality.

Herein, we report a facile solution-based method for the synthesis of single-crystal Cu2O nanostructures (i.e. Cu2O-CuO) as a core. Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) with varying concentrations are fabricated on the surface of Cu2O extended hexapods (EHPs) in ethanol solution at room temperature via self-assembly, where copper acts as a sacrificial model and a stabilizer as well. The Cu2O crystals displayed a good sensing activity toward BPA oxidation owing to their high energy facets, dangling bonds and great proportion of surface copper atoms. Structural, morphological, chemical and vibrational investigations were performed in detail, presenting high crystallinity of hybrid nanocomposites and Cu2O-CuO heterojunction positions along with the growth of GQDs on the core of Cu2O-CuO crystals. The electrochemical sensing performance of the as-fabricated Cu2O-CuO@GQD EHPs was monitored for the determination of bisphenol A (BPA) as an early diagnostic marker and environmental contaminant. The synergistic effects of the boosted surface area, exposed Cu 111 crystallographic planes and mixed copper valences enhance redox reaction kinetics by increasing the electron shuttling rate at the electrode-analyte junction. Benefitting from the improved electrocatalytic activity for BPA oxidation, the electrochemical sensor displayed the lowest limit of detection (≤1 nM), good chemical stability, a broad linear range (2 nM-11 mM), and high sensitivity (636 μA mM-1 cm-2). The Cu2O-CuO@GQD EHP-based sensing platform was used for BPA detection in water and human serum samples. Thus, the HCR process can be triggered between two hairpins M1 and M2, resulting in the aggregation of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) via the hybridization between the tail sequence on M1 (or M2) and a DNA-AuNP probe with a dramatic change in the absorbance at 521 nm. More specifically, the strategy, which was conducted by the introduction of target-specific recognition of THMS and universalized by virtue of altering the aptamer or DNA sequence without changing the triple-helix structure, enables simple design for multiple target detection. Physicochemical properties of the free and complexed ligand differ substantially.A library of 14 heterobis(carbene) complexes of the general formula [Au(iPr2-bimy)(ADC)]BF4 (7-20) containing the N-heterocyclic carbene reporter iPr2-bimy and various protic acyclic diaminocarbenes (ADCs) have been prepared to estimate their stereoelectronic properties by 13C NMR spectroscopy and percentage buried volume (%Vbur) determinations. Their preparation was achieved by nucleophilic attack of five secondary amines on six mixed NHC/isocyanide complexes of the type [Au(iPr2-bimy)(CN-R)]BF4 (1-6). Analyses of the iPr2-bimy carbene signals reveal that protic ADCs are stronger donors than classical and expanded-ring NHCs. On the other hand, they are weaker donating compared to NHCs with reduced-heteroatom stabilization. Moreover, stereoelectronic fine-tuning of these ligands is possible by a diverse range of substituents originating from the employed isocyanides and amines.Plasma-free metanephrines and catecholamines are essential markers in the biochemical diagnosis and follow-up of neuroendocrine tumors and inborn errors of metabolism. However, their low circulating concentrations (in the nanomolar range) and poor fragmentation characteristics hinder facile simultaneous quantification by liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Here, we present a sensitive and simple matrix derivatization procedure using propionic anhydride that enables simultaneous quantification of unconjugated l-DOPA, catecholamines, and metanephrines in plasma by LC-MS/MS. Dilution of propionic anhydride 14 (v/v) in acetonitrile in combination with 50 μL of plasma resulted in the highest mass spectrometric response. In plasma, derivatization resulted in stable derivatives and increased sensitivity by a factor of 4-30 compared with a previous LC-MS/MS method for measuring plasma metanephrines in our laboratory. Furthermore, propionylation increased specificity, especially for 3-methoxytyramine, by preventing interference from antihypertensive medication (β-blockers). The method was validated according to international guidelines and correlated with a hydrophilic interaction LC-MS/MS method for measuring plasma metanephrines (R2 > 0.99) and high-performance liquid chromatography with an electrochemical detection method for measuring plasma catecholamines (R2 > 0.85). Reference intervals for l-DOPA, catecholamines, and metanephrines in n = 115 healthy individuals were established. Our work shows that analytes in the subnanomolar range in plasma can be derivatized in situ without any preceding sample extraction. The developed method shows improved sensitivity and selectivity over existing methods and enables simultaneous quantification of several classes of amines.The layered oxide Na2Zn2TeO6 is a fast Na+ ion conductor and a suitable candidate for application as a solid-state electrolyte. We present a detailed study on how synthesis temperature and Na-content affect the crystal structure and thus the Na+ ion conductivity of Na2Zn2TeO6. Furthermore, we report for the first time an O'3-type phase for Na2Zn2TeO6. At a synthesis temperature of 900 °C, we obtain a pure P2-type phase, providing peak performance in Na+ ion conductivity. Synthesis temperatures lower than 900 °C produce a series of mixed P2 and O'3-type phases. The O'3 structure can only be obtained as a pure phase by substituting Li on the Zn-sites to increase the Na-content. Moreover, the PES membrane can be prepared in a large area with excellent flexibility at room and liquid nitrogen temperature, indicating great promise in harsh environments. This work will provide an avenue for designing porous materials and smart dehumidification materials, which have promising applications in biomedical materials, advanced functional textiles, engineered desiccant materials, etc.
Physicochemical properties of the free and complexed ligand differ substantially.A library of 14 heterobis(carbene) complexes of the general formula [Au(iPr2-bimy)(ADC)]BF4 (7-20) containing the N-heterocyclic carbene reporter iPr2-bimy and various protic acyclic diaminocarbenes (ADCs) have been prepared to estimate their stereoelectronic properties by 13C NMR spectroscopy and percentage buried volume (%Vbur) determinations. Their preparation was achieved by nucleophilic attack of five secondary amines on six mixed NHC/isocyanide complexes of the type [Au(iPr2-bimy)(CN-R)]BF4 (1-6). Analyses of the iPr2-bimy carbene signals reveal that protic ADCs are stronger donors than classical and expanded-ring NHCs. On the other hand, they are weaker donating compared to NHCs with reduced-heteroatom stabilization. Moreover, stereoelectronic fine-tuning of these ligands is possible by a diverse range of substituents originating from the employed isocyanides and amines.Plasma-free metanephrines and catecholamines are essential markers in the biochemical diagnosis and follow-up of neuroendocrine tumors and inborn errors of metabolism. However, their low circulating concentrations (in the nanomolar range) and poor fragmentation characteristics hinder facile simultaneous quantification by liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Here, we present a sensitive and simple matrix derivatization procedure using propionic anhydride that enables simultaneous quantification of unconjugated l-DOPA, catecholamines, and metanephrines in plasma by LC-MS/MS. Dilution of propionic anhydride 14 (v/v) in acetonitrile in combination with 50 μL of plasma resulted in the highest mass spectrometric response. In plasma, derivatization resulted in stable derivatives and increased sensitivity by a factor of 4-30 compared with a previous LC-MS/MS method for measuring plasma metanephrines in our laboratory. Furthermore, propionylation increased specificity, especially for 3-methoxytyramine, by preventing interference from antihypertensive medication (β-blockers). The method was validated according to international guidelines and correlated with a hydrophilic interaction LC-MS/MS method for measuring plasma metanephrines (R2 > 0.99) and high-performance liquid chromatography with an electrochemical detection method for measuring plasma catecholamines (R2 > 0.85). Reference intervals for l-DOPA, catecholamines, and metanephrines in n = 115 healthy individuals were established. Our work shows that analytes in the subnanomolar range in plasma can be derivatized in situ without any preceding sample extraction. The developed method shows improved sensitivity and selectivity over existing methods and enables simultaneous quantification of several classes of amines.The layered oxide Na2Zn2TeO6 is a fast Na+ ion conductor and a suitable candidate for application as a solid-state electrolyte. We present a detailed study on how synthesis temperature and Na-content affect the crystal structure and thus the Na+ ion conductivity of Na2Zn2TeO6. Furthermore, we report for the first time an O'3-type phase for Na2Zn2TeO6. At a synthesis temperature of 900 °C, we obtain a pure P2-type phase, providing peak performance in Na+ ion conductivity. Synthesis temperatures lower than 900 °C produce a series of mixed P2 and O'3-type phases. The O'3 structure can only be obtained as a pure phase by substituting Li on the Zn-sites to increase the Na-content. Efficient cures are still absent, despite all attempts to understand the aggressive physiopathology underlying this disease. A major stumbling block is the outdated preclinical modeling strategies applied in assessing effectiveness of novel anticancer therapeutics. Current in vitro preclinical models have a low fidelity to mimic the exact architectural and functional complexity of PDAC tumor found in human set, due to the lack of major components such as immune system and tumor microenvironment with its associated chemical and mechanical signals. The existing PDAC preclinical platforms are still far from being reliable and trustworthy to guarantee the success of a drug in clinical trials. Therefore, there is an urgent demand to innovate novel in vitro preclinical models that mirrors with precision tumor-microenvironment interface, pressure of immune system, and molecular and morphological aspects of the PDAC normally experienced within the living organ. This review outlines the traditional preclinical models of PDAC namely 2D cell lines, genetically engineered ****, and xenografts, and describing the present famous approach of 3D organoids. We offer a detailed narration of the pros and cons of each model system. Finally, we suggest the incorporation of two off-center newly born techniques named 3D bio-printing and organs-on-chip and discuss the potentials of ***** models and in silico tools, as powerful new tools able to transform PDAC preclinical modeling to a whole new level and open new gates in personalized medicine. While most of these are focused on stimulating the adaptive immune system (including T cell checkpoint inhibitors), several key approaches targeting the innate immune system have been identified. Macrophages are a key cell type in the innate immune response with CD47 being identified as a dominant macrophage checkpoint. CD47 is a "do not eat me" signal, overexpressed in myeloid malignancies that leads to tumor evasion of phagocytosis by macrophages. Blockade of CD47 leads to engulfment of leukemic cells and therapeutic elimination. Pre-clinical data has demonstrated robust anti-cancer activity in multiple hematologic malignancies including AML and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). In addition, clinical studies have been underway with CD47 targeting agents in both AML and MDS as monotherapy and in combination. This review will describe the role of CD47 in myeloid malignancies and pre-clinical data supporting CD47 targeting. We aimed to assess the value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the differentiation of cervical spine ORN from bone metastasis after RT detected by BS in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods In this retrospective study, 35 NPC patients who had undergone RT were enrolled, of whom 21 patients showed cervical spine ORN and 14 showed bone metastasis. New areas of increased radiotracer uptake in the cervical spine on a BS were noted in all patients, following which the patients underwent neck MRI for further assessment. Two radiologists independently reviewed two sets of images including a BS set and an MRI set (MRI with BS) and reached a consensus. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for ORN detection were calculated, and interobserver agreement was evaluated using the kappa test. Results A total of 75 cervical spine lesions were identified (44, ORN; 31 metastases).

The NRF2/KEAP1 pathway is a fundamental signaling cascade that controls multiple cytoprotective responses through the induction of a complex transcriptional program that ultimately renders cancer cells resistant to oxidative, metabolic and therapeutic stress. Interestingly, accumulating evidence in recent years has indicated that metabolic reprogramming is closely interrelated with the regulation of redox homeostasis, suggesting that the disruption of NRF2 signaling might represent a valid therapeutic strategy against a variety of solid and hematologic cancers. These aspects will be the focus of the present review.In this study, vacuum low-pressure carburizing heat treatments were carried out on 18Cr2Ni4WA case-carburized alloy steel. The evolution and phase transformation mechanism of the microstructure of the carburized layer during low-temperature tempering and its effect on the surface hardness were studied. The results showed that the carburized layer of the 18Cr2Ni4WA steel was composed of a large quantity of martensite and retained austenite. The type of martensite matrix changed from acicular martensite to lath martensite from the surface to the core. The hardness of the carburized layer gradually decreased as the carbon content decreased. A thermodynamic model was used to show that the low-carbon retained austenite was easier to transform into martensite at lower temperatures, since the high-carbon retained austenite was more thermally stable than the low-carbon retained austenite. The mechanical stability-not the thermal stability-of the retained austenite in the carburized layer dominated after carburizing and quenching, and cryogenic treatment had a limited effect on promoting the martensite formation. During low-temperature tempering, the solid-solution carbon content of the martensite decreased, the compressive stress on the retained austenite was reduced and the mechanical stability of the retained austenite decreased. Therefore, during cooling after low-temperature tempering, the low-carbon retained austenite transformed into martensite, whereas the high-carbon retained austenite still remained in the microstructure. The changes in the martensite matrix hardness had a far greater effect than the transformation of the retained austenite to martensite on the case hardness of the carburized layer.Background Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are part of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in developing countries, including South Africa, where they are a major public health issue. Understanding the joint spatial clustering of CVDs and associated risk factors to determine areas in need of enhanced integrated interventions would help develop targeted, cost-effective and productive mediations. We estimated joint spatial associations and clustering patterns of 2 CVDs (stroke and heart attack) and 3 risk factors (hypertension, high blood cholesterol (HBC) and smoking) among adults in South Africa. Methods We used cross-sectional secondary adult (15-64-year olds) health data from the South African Demographic Health Survey 2016. Age and gender standardized disease incidence ratios were analyzed using joint spatial global and local bivariate Moran's Index statistics. Results We found significantly positive univariate spatial clustering for stroke (Moran; s Index = 0.128), smoking (0.606) hypertension (0nd risk factors, where higher rates were found in urban places than in rural areas. These findings are suggestive of a more contagious and spatial diffusion process among interdependent districts in urban districts. Urbanization or rurality needs to be considered when intervention initiatives are implemented with more general approaches in rural areas. The finding of "hot spot" co-clusters in urban areas means that integrated intervention programmes aimed at reducing the risk of CVDs and associated risk factors would be cost-effective and more productive.In many developing countries, community members depend on their local flora for treating diverse ailments including those affecting the respiratory system. This is often attributed to the high cost and limited access to health care facilities. This present study focused on the documentation of plant species used against cough associated with the respiratory diseases in Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State. The survey was conducted using semi-structured interviews among 100 participants. Information obtained was analyzed using different ethno-botanical indices including relative frequency of citation (RFC) and fidelity level (FL). A total of 87 plant species from 39 families, which was mostly represented by Fabaceae, were reported in the study area. Crinum jagus was the most popular plant used against cough and approximately 32% of the plants have been reported as cough remedies for the first time. However, some of the documented plants have been reported for the treatment of cough and related respiratory diseases in several countries. In terms of the life-form, trees constituted the highest proportion of the medicinal plants (37%), while leaves (36%) were the predominant plant part prescribed for cough. Decoction was the main method of preparing the plants, which were all administered orally. Two strips of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) reinforcement were glued into rectangular grooves in the component bottom with two-component epoxy resin (0.62% reinforcement percentage). The reinforcement mainly affected the enhancement of the maximum bending moment values evaluated at the points of application as having concentrated forces of 32% and 24% in comparison to the unreinforced elements. Increases of 11% and 7% in the global modulus of elasticity in the bending and stiffness coefficients were achieved, respectively. The failure of the reference beams was caused by exceeding the tensile strength of the LVL.

The changes in the martensite matrix hardness had a far greater effect than the transformation of the retained austenite to martensite on the case hardness of the carburized layer.Background Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are part of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in developing countries, including South Africa, where they are a major public health issue. Understanding the joint spatial clustering of CVDs and associated risk factors to determine areas in need of enhanced integrated interventions would help develop targeted, cost-effective and productive mediations. We estimated joint spatial associations and clustering patterns of 2 CVDs (stroke and heart attack) and 3 risk factors (hypertension, high blood cholesterol (HBC) and smoking) among adults in South Africa. Methods We used cross-sectional secondary adult (15-64-year olds) health data from the South African Demographic Health Survey 2016. Age and gender standardized disease incidence ratios were analyzed using joint spatial global and local bivariate Moran's Index statistics. Results We found significantly positive univariate spatial clustering for stroke (Moran; s Index = 0.128), smoking (0.606) hypertension (0nd risk factors, where higher rates were found in urban places than in rural areas. These findings are suggestive of a more contagious and spatial diffusion process among interdependent districts in urban districts. Urbanization or rurality needs to be considered when intervention initiatives are implemented with more general approaches in rural areas. The finding of "hot spot" co-clusters in urban areas means that integrated intervention programmes aimed at reducing the risk of CVDs and associated risk factors would be cost-effective and more productive.In many developing countries, community members depend on their local flora for treating diverse ailments including those affecting the respiratory system. This is often attributed to the high cost and limited access to health care facilities. This present study focused on the documentation of plant species used against cough associated with the respiratory diseases in Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State. The survey was conducted using semi-structured interviews among 100 participants. Information obtained was analyzed using different ethno-botanical indices including relative frequency of citation (RFC) and fidelity level (FL). A total of 87 plant species from 39 families, which was mostly represented by Fabaceae, were reported in the study area. Crinum jagus was the most popular plant used against cough and approximately 32% of the plants have been reported as cough remedies for the first time. However, some of the documented plants have been reported for the treatment of cough and related respiratory diseases in several countries. In terms of the life-form, trees constituted the highest proportion of the medicinal plants (37%), while leaves (36%) were the predominant plant part prescribed for cough. Decoction was the main method of preparing the plants, which were all administered orally. Background Increasing the role of schools and colleges in the provision of mental health services for young people has the potential to improve early intervention and access to treatment. We aimed to understand what factors influence the successful implementation of indicated psychological interventions within schools and colleges to help guide increased provision of mental health support within education settings. Methods Systematic search for studies that have reported barriers or facilitators to the implementation of indicated interventions for adolescent emotional disorders delivered within schools and further education/sixth form colleges (CRD42018102830). Databases searched were EMBASE, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, CINAHL, British Nursing Index, ASSIA, ERIC and British Education Index. A thematic synthesis of factors reported to impact implementation was conducted. Results Two thousand five hundred and sixty-nine records and 177 full texts were screened. The circular stapler was introduced transanally and a side-to-end anastomosis was performed. The anastomosis was finally checked by contrast-enhanced indocyanine green perfusion. Results The operating time of the described step was 93 minutes. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient was discharged after 6 days. At follow-up, no anastomotic complications were recorded. Conclusions Different colorectal anastomoses can be performed during TaTME. Dose used was 40 Gray in 15 fractions over 3 weeks to the whole breast via forward-planned prone, whole breast IMRT. A 10 Gy in 5 fraction supine boost was offered. Results Between January 2012 and January 2020, 2199 patients had breast conservation and adjuvant radiation 489 received hypofractionated prone breast IMRT, with 155 eligible for our evaluation. Median follow-up was 52 months. Median age was 62 (range 36-80), 78.7% were T1, 20.6% were T2, and 12.3% were node-positive. Grade was 1 in 26.5%, 2 in 43.9% and 3 in 29.7%; 87.1% were oestrogen receptor positive, 3.2% were HER2 positive, and 11.0% were triple negative. 58.6% received a boost, 74.8% endocrine therapy and 32.3% chemotherapy. No patient developed local recurrence. One regional recurrence was successfully salvaged. Six patients (3.9%) developed metastases, and 1.9% died. Five-year actuarial local recurrence-free, regional recurrence-free and breast cancer-specific survival rates were 100.0%, 98.2% and 94.8%. Late grade 1 and 2 breast pain occurred in 20.0% and 1.3% of patients. Only 11.0% had new pain compared to pre-radiation. No patient developed radiation-induced pneumonitis, pulmonary fibrosis, rib fracture or cardiac toxicity. All patients scored cosmesis as 'good' or better. Conclusion Adjuvant hypofractionated prone breast IMRT has excellent locoregional control and minimal toxicity.Background Infective endocarditis (IE) is a rare complication following solid organ transplant (SOT); data on the clinical features and outcomes of IE in SOT recipients in the modern era are limited. Methods We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study of IE diagnosed from 1/2008-12/2014 in SOT recipients, who were matched by age and microorganism to cases of IE in non-SOT, to describe the clinical features and outcomes. Results There were 14 cases of IE identified in SOT recipients matched to 56 non-SOT controls. Median time from transplant to IE was 1017 days (IQR 379-1830). Compared to non-SOT patients, SOT patients were more likely to be undergoing current hemodialysis (16% vs 36%) and to possess indwelling central venous catheters within the 30 days prior to diagnosis of IE (27% vs 50%). No SOT patients had documented drug use as a risk factor for IE whereas 6 (11%) non-SOT did. Enterococcus was the most common etiologic agent and was isolated in 50% of cases; only one fungal infection was identified, a mixed infection with Candida. Thirty-day mortality was 14% in SOT patients, significantly higher versus no deaths in non-SOT (P = .037). Conclusions The present study illustrates a change in epidemiology of IE in SOT patients characterized by IE that generally occurs more than one-year post-transplant, is due to bacterial infection rather than fungus, and appears to be health care associated. Multicenter studies are merited to explore transplant-specific risk factors for IE in the special population of SOT patients.Atherosclerosis is a chronic disease that can lead to life-threatening events such as myocardial infarction and stroke, is characterized by the build-up of lipids and immune cells within the arterial wall. It is understood that inflammation is a hallmark of atherosclerosis and can be a target for therapy. In support of this concept, an injectable nanoliposomal formulation encapsulating fluocinolone acetonide (FA), a corticosteroid, is developed that allows for drug delivery to atherosclerotic plaques while reducing the systemic exposure to off-target tissues. In this study, FA is successfully incorporated into liposomal nanocarriers of around 100 nm in size with loading efficiency of 90% and the formulation exhibits sustained release up to 25 d. The anti-inflammatory effect and cholesterol efflux capability of FA-liposomes are demonstrated in vitro. In vivo studies carried out with an apolipoprotein E-knockout (Apoe-/- ) mouse model of atherosclerosis show accumulation of liposomes in atherosclerotic plaques, colocalization with plaque macrophages and anti-atherogenic effect over 3 weeks of treatment.
