Based on information supplied at age 14 years, family structure was categorised as 'single-parent family' and 'two-parent family'. The anthropometric information, data from blood samples and medical history were collected from postal questionnaires and clinical examinations routinely performed at the ages of 31 and 46 years. Results The study population comprised a total of 10,895 individuals; 85% (n=9253) were offspring of two-parent families and 15% (n=1642) of single-parent families. Type 2 diabetes (P=0.032) or prediabetes (P=0.007), psychoactive drug problems (P less then 0.001) and sexually transmitted diseases (P less then 0.001) were more common in the single-parent family group than in the participants from two-parent families. In addition, among men **** diseases (P=0.002), and among women hypertension (P=0.003) and ovary infection (P=0.024) were more frequent in individuals affected by parental death than in those from two-parent families. Conclusions Our results indicate the association of childhood family structure with offspring morbidity during 46 years' follow-up. Nectin-4 is a tumor-associated antigen overexpressed in urothelial carcinoma and several other malignancies. It has emerged as a compelling target for novel tumor-directed therapies, particularly as a component of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), a growing class of anti-cancer therapeutic agents. Development of nectin-4-directed therapies has been led by enfortumab vedotin (EV), an ADC comprised of a fully human monoclonal antibody specific for nectin-4 conjugated via a cleavable linker to the microtubule inhibitor MMAE. EV was approved in 2019 as a first-in-class agent for the treatment of urothelial carcinoma.
This article discusses general principles relevant to ADC design and our current understanding of nectin-4 in normal physiology and malignancy, followed by a review of the development of EV as well as additional drug conjugate strategies targeting nectin-4.

The cross-sectional survey of the study cases were carried out using an online survey platform. All of the participants completed a general situation questionnaire, and QOL was assessed through the 36-item Short Form Health Survey. Results showed that the overall QOL of patients with CHD during COVID-19 was poor, having an average score of 65.99 ± 10.97. Moreover, multivariate linear regression analysis showed that worry about COVID-19 (P less then 0.05) and different exercise intervention types (P less then 0.05) were the main factors affecting the QOL of patients.

We compared the effect of two inodilators, levosimendan and milrinone, on the plasma levels of myocardial injury biomarkers, that is, high-sensitivity troponin T and heart-type fatty acid binding protein, and on N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide as a biomarker of ventricular function. We hypothesized that levosimendan could attenuate the degree of myocardial injury when compared with milrinone.

Eighty-eight patients were enrolled in the study. Forty-eight patients had a final diagnosis of bronchiolitis/viral pneumonitis (55%), 29 had pneumonia (33%), 10 of acute respiratory failure in adults, blinded point-of-care lung ultrasound demonstrates moderate sensitivity and specificity in identifying the etiology of pediatric acute respiratory failure at admission to the PICU among children with bronchiolitis, pneumonia, and status asthmaticus.
Patients with extensive deep burns usually experience infections and organ dysfunction. Proactive and effective wound repair is key to treatment. If large wounds remain open, systemic infection and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome can occur, threatening the lives of patients. Current wound repair methods include skin grafts, flap repair, negative-pressure wound therapy, and cellular and/or tissue-based products. For deep, complex burn wounds, a single form of treatment is usually ineffective. This article reports a rare case of burn wound repair. The patient was burned by a charcoal flame on multiple parts of his body after carbon monoxide poisoning. Pneumothorax and acute renal failure occurred after the injury, accompanied by multiple osteonecroses of the trunk and lower limbs. A multidisciplinary team formulated an individualized treatment plan; the diverse treatments included closed chest drainage, continuous renal replacement therapy, infection control, analgesia, wound debridement, negative-pressurd lower limbs. These products are offered in multiple sizes with various shelf lives and methods of storage, making them accessible, easy to use, less wasteful, and lower in cost compared with other commercially available products. Promising evidence demonstrates that HACMAs are beneficial in treating complex, high-grade DFUs with exposed tendon or bone.

Some countries have taken mass home quarantine to control the virus. However, the side effects of quarantine have rarely been interrogated by current COVID-19 research. This study thus investigates the effects of online social support on the public's beliefs in overcoming COVID-19 by embracing their cognition and emotion during the epidemic. First, by crawling and content analysis of the messages posted on "Baidu COVID-19 bar", this study identified 5 types of online social support given or received by the public during COVID-19. On this basis, a model explaining the public's beliefs was developed from the perspectives of online social support, cognition and emotion. 334 valid online questionnaires were collected to examine the proposed model and hypotheses. The results show that cognition has a direct effect on the belief, while emotion affects the belief via a full mediating effect of cognition. The methodology is based on the combination of data analytics (event detection methods) and time series modeling (inertia and novelty concepts) over hospitalized SARI cases. The estimate of real cases of the disease, called novelty, is calculated by comparing the difference in SARI cases in 2020 (after COVID-19) with the total expected cases in recent years (2016-2019). Some countries have taken mass home quarantine to control the virus. However, the side effects of quarantine have rarely been interrogated by current COVID-19 research. This study thus investigates the effects of online social support on the public's beliefs in overcoming COVID-19 by embracing their cognition and emotion during the epidemic. First, by crawling and content analysis of the messages posted on "Baidu COVID-19 bar", this study identified 5 types of online social support given or received by the public during COVID-19. On this basis, a model explaining the public's beliefs was developed from the perspectives of online social support, cognition and emotion. 334 valid online questionnaires were collected to examine the proposed model and hypotheses. The results show that cognition has a direct effect on the belief, while emotion affects the belief via a full mediating effect of cognition. This refers to the improvisational acts of mutual help, collective feeling and utopian desires that emerge in the wake of disasters. It has been observed for as long as there has been a sociology of disasters. Within the field, there have been numerous efforts to name and describe it. Yet there has been far less enthusiasm to theorize it, which means that the disaster literature has not adequately explained the social conditions under which communitas arises (or fails to). In this article, we synthesize numerous case studies to do so. This takes us beyond simple statements of what communitas is and what it should be called, to considerations of the conditions under which it emerges, how it should be conceptualized, the factors that might prevent communitas, and how we might encourage it. While primarily a theoretical work, the identification of communitas' facilitators and barriers have practical import for disaster risk reduction (DRR) policy as communitas has frequently proven to be a positive and potent force.Due to its impact, COVID-19 has been stressing the academy to search for curing, mitigating, or controlling it. It is believed that under-reporting is a relevant factor in determining the actual mortality rate and, if not considered, can cause significant misinformation. Therefore, this work aims to estimate the under-reporting of cases and deaths of COVID-19 in Brazilian states using data from the InfoGripe. InfoGripe targets notifications of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). The methodology is based on the combination of data analytics (event detection methods) and time series modeling (inertia and novelty concepts) over hospitalized SARI cases. The estimate of real cases of the disease, called novelty, is calculated by comparing the difference in SARI cases in 2020 (after COVID-19) with the total expected cases in recent years (2016-2019). The expected cases are derived from a seasonal exponential moving average. Disruptions of circadian motor behavior cause a significant burden for older adults as well as their caregivers and often lead to institutionalization. This cross-sectional study investigates the association between mobility-related behavior and subjectively rated circadian chronotypes in healthy older adults. The physical activity of 81 community-dwelling older adults was measured over seven consecutive days and nights using lower-****-worn hybrid motion sensors (MM+) and wrist-worn actigraphs (MW8). A 30-min and 120-min active period for the highest number of steps (MM+) and activity counts (MW8) was derived for each day, respectively. Subjective chronotypes were classified by the Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire into 40 (50%) morning types, 35 (43%) intermediate and six (7%) evening types. Analysis revealed significantly earlier starts for the 30-min active period (steps) in the morning types compared to the intermediate types (p ≤ 0.01) and the evening types (p ≤ 0.01). The 120-min active period (steps) showed significantly earlier starts in the morning types compared to the intermediate types (p ≤ 0.01) and the evening types (p = 0.02). The starting times of active periods determined from wrist-activity counts (MW8) did not reveal differences between the three chronotypes (p = 0.36 for the 30-min and p = 0.12 for the 120-min active period). The timing of mobility-related activity, i.e., periods with the highest number of steps measured by hybrid motion sensors, is associated to subjectively rated chronotypes in healthy older adults. The analysis of individual active periods may provide an innovative approach for early detecting and individually tailoring the treatment of circadian disruptions in aging and geriatric healthcare.There is a lack of data from developing countries on the link between physical activity (PA) on health outcomes. This study examines the association between the level of PA and sarcopenia, cardiovascular risk factors (i.e., dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and cardiovascular diseases), and the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among elderly people, in community dwellings in Lebanon. In this cross-sectional, observational study, body composition, levels of PA, and the HRQoL of 243 elderly people living in community dwellings, are obtained. The participants are then categorized based on a PA cut-off point of 600 metabolic equivalent task minutes per week (MET-min/week). In our sample, the prevalence of physical inactivity, defined as performing less than 600 MET-min/week, is 51.44% (125/243 participants).They displayed a higher prevalence of sarcopenia (36.0% vs. 18.6%), T2D (39.6% vs. 21.1%), as well as a lower physical (65.67 ± 20.72 vs. 75.08 ± 17.29) and mental (67.58 ± 21.51 vs. 76.95 ± 17.16) HRQoL. On the other hand, regression analysis shows that an increased rate of PA to ≥600 MET-min/week is associated with a lower risk of T2D (OR = 0.43, 95% CI 0.22-0.84, p = 0.013) and sarcopenia (OR= 0.40, 95% CI 0.22-0.73, p = 0.003) by 60%, and higher scores of the physical (β = -7.65; -11.87, -3.43, p = 0.0004) and mental (β = -8.47; -13.08, -3.85, p = 0.0004) HRQoL by nearly eight points. Our results show a high prevalence of physical inactivity in Lebanese adults over the age of 60; however, an adequate level of PA among this population seemed to be associated with a lower risk of sarcopenia and T2D, as well as a better HRQoL. However, future longitudinal studies are still needed to clarify if intervention based on increasing levels of PA can determine improvement in these clinical outcomes. If this is shown to be the case, it emphasizes the importance of implementing strategies to increase physical activity within this population.The effects of titanium (Ti) ion-implanted doses on the chemical composition, surface roughness, mechanical properties, as well as tribological properties of 316L austenitic stainless steel are investigated in this paper. The Ti ion implantations were carried out at an energy of 40 kV and at 2 mA for different doses of 3.0 × 1016, 1.0 × 1017, 1.0 × 1018, and 1.7 × 1018 ions/cm2. The results showed that a new phase (Cr2Ti) was detected, and the concentrations of Ti and C increased obviously when the dose exceeded 1.0 × 1017 ions/cm2. The surface roughness can be significantly reduced after Ti ion implantation. The nano-hardness increased from 3.44 to 5.21 GPa at a Ti ion-implanted dose increase up to 1.0 × 1018 ions/cm2. The friction coefficient decreased from 0.78 for un-implanted samples to 0.68 for a sample at the dose of 1.7 × 1018 ions/cm2. The wear rate was slightly improved when the sample implanted Ti ion at a dose of 1.0 × 1018 ions/cm2. Adhesive wear and oxidation wear are the main wear mechanisms, and a slightly abrasive wear is observed during sliding. Professional nurses are a critical part of the workforce. The recruitment of participants continued until data saturation was reached at participant number 20. Data were collected through face-to-face individual interviews using a semi-structured guide. Data were analyzed using Tech's qualitative data analysis method. Trustworthiness was measured through credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability. Findings Emotional and physical strain due to a shortage of staff, heavy workload, staff turnover, and high absenteeism were experienced by the nurses fulfilling these tasks. Exhaustion, fatigue, increased levels of stress, and lack of training, counselling, debriefing sessions, recognitions, and reward systems were also experienced. Recommendations A program for support of all professional nurses providing care to HIV and AIDS patients should be conceptualized and implemented.

In this work, we report surface-modified nickel (Ni) wire/NiCo2O4/reduced graphene oxide (Ni/NCO/RGO) electrodes fabricated by a combination of facile solvothermal and hydrothermal deposition methods for wire-shaped supercapacitor application. The effect of Ni wire etching on the microstructural, surface morphological and electrochemical properties of Ni/NCO/RGO electrodes was investigated in detail. On account of the improved hybrid nanostructure and the synergistic effect between spinel-NiCo2O4 hollow microspheres and RGO nanoflakes, the electrode obtained from Ni wire etched for 10 min, i.e., Ni10/NCO/RGO exhibits the lowest initial equivalent resistance (1.68 Ω), and displays a good rate capability with a volumetric capacitance (2.64 F/cm3) and areal capacitance (25.3 mF/cm2). Additionally, the volumetric specific capacitance calculated by considering only active material volume was found to be as high as 253 F/cm3. It is revealed that the diffusion-controlled process related to faradaic volume processes (battery type) contributed significantly to the surface-controlled process of the Ni10/NCO/RGO electrode compared to other electrodes that led to the optimum electrochemical performance. Furthermore, the wire-shaped supercapacitor (WSC) was fabricated by assembling two optimum electrodes in-twisted structure with gel electrolyte and the device exhibited 10 μWh/cm3 (54 mWh/kg) energy density and 4.95 mW/cm3 (27 W/kg) power density at 200 μA. Finally, the repeatability, flexibility, and scalability of WSCs were successfully demonstrated at various device lengths and bending angles.Objectives To find an objective diagnostic tool for the superficial veins in legs. Methods This study included 137 patients who underwent TRANCE-MRI from 2017 to 2020 (IRB 202001570B0). Among them, 53 with unilateral leg venous diseases underwent a QFlow scan and were classified into the reflux and non-reflux groups according to the status of the great saphenous veins. Results The QFlow, namely stroke volume (SV), forward flow volume (FFV), mean flux (MF), stroke distance (SD), and mean velocity (MV) measured in the external iliac, femoral, popliteal, and great saphenous vein (GSV). The SV, FFV, SD, MF, SD, and MV in the GSV (morbid/non-morbid limbs) demonstrated a favorable ability to discriminate reflux from non-reflux in the ROC curve. The SD in the GSV and GSV/PV ratio (p = 0.049 and 0.047/cutoff = 86 and 117.1) and the MV in the EIV/FV ratio, GSV, and GSV/PV ratio (p = 0.035, 0.034, and 0.025/cutoff = 100.9, 86.1, and 122.9) exhibited the ability to discriminate between reflux and non-reflux group. The SD, MV, and FFV have better ability to discriminate a reflux from non-reflux group than the SV and MF. Conclusions QFlow may be used to verify the reflux of superficial veins in the legs. An increasing GSV/PV ratio is a hallmark of reflux of superficial veins in the legs.Post-modification of a series of NCN-pincer platinum(II) complexes [PtX(NCN-R-4)] (NCN = [C6H2(CH2NMe2)2-2,6]-, R = C(O)H, C(O)Me and C(O)Et), X = Cl- or Br-) at the para-position using the McMurry reaction was studied. The synthetic route towards two new [PtCl(NCN-R-4)] (R = C(O)Me and C(O)Et) complexes used above is likewise described. In the present study, we examined the role of nicotinamide (NAM) in oocyte quality and offspring development. The levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress responses in aged oocytes, embryonic lethality, and developmental growth of the offspring were examined with maternal NAM supplementation. Supplementation with NAM improved oocyte quality, decreased embryonic lethality, and promoted germ cell apoptosis. Furthermore, NAM supplementation in aged mothers reduced ROS accumulation and improved mitochondrial function in oocytes.

Additionally, the volumetric specific capacitance calculated by considering only active material volume was found to be as high as 253 F/cm3. Methods This study included 137 patients who underwent TRANCE-MRI from 2017 to 2020 (IRB 202001570B0). Among them, 53 with unilateral leg venous diseases underwent a QFlow scan and were classified into the reflux and non-reflux groups according to the status of the great saphenous veins. Results The QFlow, namely stroke volume (SV), forward flow volume (FFV), mean flux (MF), stroke distance (SD), and mean velocity (MV) measured in the external iliac, femoral, popliteal, and great saphenous vein (GSV). The SV, FFV, SD, MF, SD, and MV in the GSV (morbid/non-morbid limbs) demonstrated a favorable ability to discriminate reflux from non-reflux in the ROC curve. The SD in the GSV and GSV/PV ratio (p = 0.049 and 0.047/cutoff = 86 and 117.1) and the MV in the EIV/FV ratio, GSV, and GSV/PV ratio (p = 0.035, 0.034, and 0.025/cutoff = 100.9, 86.1, and 122.9) exhibited the ability to discriminate between reflux and non-reflux group. The SD, MV, and FFV have better ability to discriminate a reflux from non-reflux group than the SV and MF. Conclusions QFlow may be used to verify the reflux of superficial veins in the legs. We used multivariable linear regressions to evaluate the association between DTG pharmacokinetic parameters at week 48 (derived using an established model) and weight change between week 0 and week 48. We adjusted our model for potential confounders including CD4 nadir, female sex, African origin, age, weight at week 0 and presence of a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor-based regimen before switch to DTG. The analysis included data from 39 PWHIV. An average significant weight gain of 2.4 kg was observed between baseline and week 48. DTG plasma exposure was not significantly associated with weight gain, even after adjusting for potential confounders (P = .9). We found no significant association between DTG pharmacokinetic parameters and weight gain amongst PWHIV newly switched to a DTG-based dual regimen.
Nevus of Ota is a benign dermal melanocytosis that may pose significant psychosocial distress to patients. Q-switched nanosecond lasers have traditionally been considered the first-line treatment but pain, bleeding, and postinflammatory pigmentary alteration are common adverse effects. Picosecond devices have been increasingly used to treat nevus of Ota with promising results. We present two cases demonstrating novel applications of the 730and 785 nm picosecond titanium sapphire lasers for the treatment of nevus of Ota in two patients with types III and IV skin.
A 730and 785 nm picosecond titanium sapphire laser with pulse durations of 250 and 300 picoseconds, respectively, were used to treat two cases of nevus of Ota. Four to seven treatment sessions were conducted at monthly intervals, and follow-up evaluation was performed 1-3 months following the final treatment session.
Both cases demonstrated greater than 75% clearance following treatment. There were no adverse events or pigmentary alteration noted as a result of picosecond titanium sapphire laser treatment.

Opportunities such as watching pre-recorded autopsy videos or creating and analyzing post-mortem computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging with various 3D surface imaging techniques are usually time-consuming and cost-intensive. Photogrammetry, which allows the creation of 3D textured surface models from a series of overlapping photographs taken from varying viewpoints, is a less common approach compared with post-mortem imaging. We created 3D autopsy case models for a special online forensic pathology course in which students could try the models. Then, formal feedback was requested regarding the possible application of this method in education. Most of the students were satisfied with the new method and ranked photogrammetry higher than the other available methods. Our results indicate that photogrammetry has a high potential in undergraduate education, especially in the case of distance education or in those countries where declining autopsy rates have resulted in a decline in the use of the autopsy as an educational tool. Photogrammetry can also be used as a supplementary tool in traditional autopsy-based education and has potential applications in various fields of medical education.
To examine the nurses' burnout and associated risk factors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We followed the Cochrane criteria and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines for this systematic review and meta-analysis.
PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, Cochrane COVID-19 registry, CINAHL and pre-print services (medRχiv and PsyArXiv) were searched from January 1 to November 15, 2020 and we removed duplicates.
We applied a random effect model to estimate pooled effects since the heterogeneity between results was very high.
Sixteen studies, including 18,935 nurses met the inclusion criteria. The overall prevalence of emotional exhaustion was 34.1%, of depersonalization was 12.6% and of lack of personal accomplishment was 15.2%. The main risk factors that increased nurses' burnout were the following younger age, decreased social support, low family and colleagues readiness to cope with COVID-19 outbreak, increased perceived threat of Covid-19, longer working time in quarantine areas, working in a high-risk environment, working in hospitals with inadequate and insufficient material and human resources, increased workload and lower level of specialized training regarding COVID-19.

Background The side effects of present antimicrobials like chlorhexidine (CHX) and the emergence of drug resistance necessitate the development of alternative agents to control dental caries. Aim This study developed a novel small molecule, namely II-6s, and investigated its antimicrobial activities against common oral streptococci associated with dental caries. Methods The susceptibility of streptococci to II-6s was evaluated by the microdilution method, time-kill assay and scanning electron microscopy. The exopolysaccharides, dead/live bacteria and bacterial composition of the II-6s-treated Streptococcus mutans/Streptococcus gordonii/Streptococcus sanguinis 3-species biofilms were analyzed by confocal laser scanning microscopy, fluorescent in situ hybridization and quantitative PCR. The anti-demineralization effect and cytotoxicity of II-6s were evaluated by transverse microradiography and CCK-8 assay, respectively. Repeated exposure of S. mutans to II-6s was performed to assess if II-6s could induce drug resistance. Results II-6s exhibited antimicrobial activity similar to CHX against S. mutans, S. gordonii and S. sanguinis and significantly inhibited exopolysaccharides production, live bacteria and the demineralizing capability of the 3-species streptococcal biofilms. Besides, II-6s showed reduced cytotoxicity relative to CHX and did not induce drug resistance in S. mutans after 15 passages. Conclusion - II-6s may serve as a promising part of a successful caries management plan.A new classification of tooth position in the alveolar bone housing, which indicates the width of alveolar bone for buccolingual direction, with bone defects caused by periodontal disease is proposed. This classification highlights the importance of tooth position in the alveolar bone housing in terms of the progression of the regenerative process and the factors that may affect the prognosis of compromised teeth after regenerative surgery. Tooth positions were divided into two groups (i) The whole tooth is centrally positioned in the existing alveolar bone housing (Grade I) and (ii) A part of the tooth is exposed out of the existing alveolar bone housing (Grade II). Grade II is further divided into two subgroups according to situations encountered in clinical practice. The following subclasses are suggested Subgroup A, where the alveolar bone housing is broader than the tooth, and Subgroup B, where the alveolar bone housing is narrower than the tooth. These subgroups represent a discrepancy between tooth size and alveolar bone dimensions in the buccolingual orientation. Caries and periodontal diseases are the most common oral diseases that lead to teeth loss. The aim of this study is to assess the association of combination of salivary characteristics,
levels and clinical parameters to the dental and gingival health statuses of children.
Saliva samples were collected from 89 children. Children were allocated to the low caries group (45 children mean DMFT/dmft ≤ 2) or high caries group (44 children mean DMFT/dmft ≥ 5) according to WHO method and criteria. Additionally, gingival health status was assessed as fair (gingival index and plaque index < 2) or bad (gingival index and plaque index ≥ 2). Each participant's resting saliva hydration (RSH), viscosity (RSV), pH (RSpH), stimulated saliva flow rate (SSFR), buffering capacity of saliva (BCSS) and level of
(SSM) were determined by chair side test kits.
The result showed statistically significant differences in all salivary characteristics and SSM levels for both types of dentition between the low and active caries groups as well as between fair and bad gingival health status (except for RSH for permanent teeth and RSH plus SSFR for primary teeth).

This study evaluated whether different types of OLP patients including erosive OLP (EOLP), major EOLP, minor EOLP, and non-erosive OLP (NEOLP) patients had significantly higher percentages of FoxP3 CD4 or IFN-γ CD4 cells in total CD4 cells, and of IFN-γ CD8 cells in total CD8 cells than healthy control subjects and whether the patient's age had significant influences on these cell percentages in OLP patients. Flow cytometry was used to count the FoxP3 CD4 , IFN-γ CD4 , or IFN-γ CD8 cell levels in 183 OLP patients (67 major EOLP, 81 minor EOLP, and 35 NEOLP patients) and 20 healthy control subjects. Major EOLP patients had a significantly higher FoxP3 CD4 cell percentage than health control subjects (  = 0.049) or minor EOLP patients (  = 0.008). Caries and periodontal diseases are the most common oral diseases that lead to teeth loss. The aim of this study is to assess the association of combination of salivary characteristics, levels and clinical parameters to the dental and gingival health statuses of children. Saliva samples were collected from 89 children. Children were allocated to the low caries group (45 children mean DMFT/dmft ≤ 2) or high caries group (44 children mean DMFT/dmft ≥ 5) according to WHO method and criteria. Additionally, gingival health status was assessed as fair (gingival index and plaque index < 2) or bad (gingival index and plaque index ≥ 2). Each participant's resting saliva hydration (RSH), viscosity (RSV), pH (RSpH), stimulated saliva flow rate (SSFR), buffering capacity of saliva (BCSS) and level of (SSM) were determined by chair side test kits. Most studies on children evaluate longitudinal growth as an important health indicator. Different methods have been used to detect growth patterns across childhood, but with no comparison between them to evaluate result consistency. We explored the variation in growth patterns as detected by different clustering and latent class modelling techniques. Moreover, we investigated how the characteristics/features (e.g. slope, tempo, velocity) of longitudinal growth influence pattern detection.
We studied 1134 children from The Applied Research Group for Kids cohort with longitudinal-growth measurements [height, weight, body mass index (BMI)] available from birth until 12 years of age. Growth patterns were identified by latent class mixed models (LCMM) and time-series clustering (TSC) using various algorithms and distance measures. Time-invariant features were extracted from all growth measures. A random forest classifier was used to predict the identified growth patterns for each growth measure using the extracted features.
Overall, 72 TSC configurations were tested. For BMI, we identified three growth patterns by both TSC and LCMM. The clustering agreement was 58% between LCMM and TS clusters, whereas it varied between 30.8% and 93.3% within the TSC configurations. The extracted features (n = 67) predicted the identified patterns for each growth measure with accuracy of 82%-89%. Specific feature categories were identified as the most important predictors for patterns of all tested growth measures.

Methods to reduce the impact of within-person variation in 24HRs, such as the National Cancer Institute (NCI) method, typically require extensive training and skill.
We introduce the Simulating Intake of Micronutrients for Policy Learning and Engagement (SIMPLE) macro, a new tool to increase the accessibility of 24HR analysis. We explain the underlying theory behind the tool and provide examples of potential applications.

Few cohort studies have modelled replacements of red meat with other sources of protein on subsequent risk of type 2 diabetes using dietary changes.
To determine whether replacing red meat with other food sources of protein is associated with a lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
We used data from the Danish Diet, Cancer, and Health cohort (n=39,437) of middle-aged (55-72 years old) men and women who underwent 2 dietary assessments roughly 5 years apart to investigate dietary changes. The pseudo-observation method was used to model the average exposure effect of decreasing the intake of red meat while increasing the intake of either poultry, fish, eggs, milk, yogurt, cheese, whole grains, or refined grains on the subsequent 10-year risk of developing type 2 diabetes, compared with no changes in the intakes of these foods.
Replacing 1 serving/day (100g/day) of red meat with 1 serving/day of eggs [risk difference (RD), -2.7%; 95% CI -4.0 to -1.1%; serving size 50 g/day], milk (RD, -1.2%; 95% CI -2.1 to -0.4%milk, yogurt, whole grains, or refined grains was also associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes.As day-neutral woody perennial plants, the flowering time of roses (Rosa spp.) is assumed to be independent of the photoperiodic conditions; however, light responses of rose plants are not well understood. Chinese rose (Rosa chinensis) plants were grown under two light intensities (low light (LL), 92 μmol·m-2·s-1; or high light (HL), 278 μmol·m-2·s-1), and either with or without an end-of-day far-red (EOD-FR) treatment. Flowering was significantly delayed in the LL condition compared with the HL, but was not affected by EOD-FR treatment. The time until flowering positively corresponded with the mRNA and protein levels of Phytochrome-interacting factors (RcPIFs). The heterologous expression of RcPIF1, RcPIF3 or RcPIF4 in the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) pifq quadruple mutant partially rescued the mutant's shorter hypocotyl length. Simultaneous silencing of three RcPIFs in Rosa chinensis accelerated flowering under both LL and HL, with a more robust effect in LL, establishing RcPIFs as flowering suppressors in response to light intensity. The RcPIFs interacted with the transcription factor CONSTANS (RcCO) to form a RcPIFs-RcCO complex, which interfered with the binding of RcCO to the promoter of FLOWERING LOCUS T (RcFT), thereby inhibiting its expression. Furthermore, this inhibition was enhanced when RcPIFs were stabilized by LL, leading to delayed flowering under LL compared to HL. Our results not only revealed another layer of PIF functioning in the flowering of woody perennial plants, but also established a mechanism of light response in day-neutral plants.

Phosgene is a gas crucial to industrial chemical processes with widespread production (∼1 million tons/year in the USA, 8.5 million tons/year worldwide). Phosgene's high toxicity and physical properties resulted in its use as a chemical warfare agent during the First World War with a designation of CG ('Choky Gas'). The industrial availability of phosgene makes it a compound of concern as a weapon of mass destruction by terrorist organizations. The hydrophobicity of phosgene exacerbates its toxicity often resulting in a delayed toxidrome as the upper airways are moderately irritated; by the time symptoms appear, significant damage has occurred. As the standard of care for phosgene intoxication is supportive therapy, a pressing need for effective therapeutics and treatment regimens exists. Proposed toxicity mechanisms for phosgene based on human and animal exposures are discussed. Whereas intermediary components in the phosgene intoxication pathways are under continued discussion, generation of reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress is a common factor. As animal models are required for the study of phosgene and for FDA approval via the Animal Rule; the status of existing models and their adherence to Haber's Rule is discussed. Finally, we review the continued search for efficacious therapeutics for phosgene intoxication; and present a rapid post-exposure response that places exogenous human heat shock protein 72, in the form of a cell-penetrating fusion protein (Fv-HSP72), into lung tissues to combat apoptosis resulting from oxidative stress. The synthesised compounds were tested in vitro against a panel of three human cancer cell lines (HepG-2, HCT-116, and MCF-7) using colchicine as a positive control. Comparing to colchicine (IC50 = 7.40, 9.32, and 10.41 µM against HepG-2, HCT-116, and MCF-7, respectively), compounds 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 28 exhibited superior cytotoxic activities with IC50 values ranging from 1.78 to 9.19 µM. In order to sightsee the proposed mechanism of anti-proliferative activity, the most active members were further evaluated in vitro for their inhibitory activities against tubulin polymerisation. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and neutrophil-to-platelet ratio (NLR) were associated with bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women.
In this cross-sectional study, we enrolled 413 postmenopausal women who never received menopause hormone therapy. The relationship between SII, NLR, and BMD was investigated by linear regression analysis.
Significant inverse association was observed between SII and BMD in postmenopausal women. The mean BMD in each quartile of SII level were 0.923, 0.914, 0.900, and 0.876 g/cm
, respectively (
= .011). After adjusting for covariates, SII levels remained significantly associated with BMD (regression coefficients for quartiles 1-3 vs. quartile 4 were 0.035, 0.029, and 0.023, respectively;
for trend <.05). An inverse association was also found between NLR and BMD in postmenopausal women. However, there was no significant association between NLR and BMD after adjusting for covariates.

The purpose of this research was to create a radiomics-based prediction model using dual-time PET/CT imaging for the noninvasive classification of PDAC and AIP lesions.
This retrospective study was performed on 112 patients (48 patients with AIP and 64 patients with PDAC). All cases were confirmed by imaging and clinical follow-up, and/or pathology. A total of 502 radiomics features were extracted from the dual-time PET/CT images to develop a radiomics decision model. An additional 12 maximum intensity projection (MIP) features were also calculated to further improve the radiomics model. The optimal radiomics feature set was selected by support vector machine recursive feature elimination (SVM-RFE), and the final classifier was built using a linear SVM. The performance of the proposed dual-time model was evaluated using nested crosist doctors in making treatment decisions.

To investigate the mortality in both in- and outpatients with personality disorders (PD), and to explore the association between mortality and comorbid substance use disorder (SUD) or severe mental illness (SMI).
All residents admitted to Norwegian in- and outpatient specialist health care services during 2009-2015 with a PD diagnosis were included. Standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated in patients with PD only and in patients with PD and comorbid SMI or SUD. Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% CIs in patients with PD and comorbid SMI or SUD compared to patients with PD only.
Mortality was increased in both in- and outpatients with PD. The overall SMR was 3.8 (95% CI 3.6-4.0). The highest SMR was estimated for unnatural causes of death (11.0, 95% CI 10.0-12.0), but increased also for natural causes of death (2.2, 95% CI 2.0-2.5). Comorbidity was associated with higher SMRs, particularly due to poisoning and suicide. However, these phenotypes are highly variable in distinct C. jejuni strains and depend on the culture conditions applied.Thermophilic Campylobacter, in particular Campylobacter jejuni, C. coli and C. lari are the main relevant Campylobacter species for human infections. Due to their high capacity of genetic exchange by horizontal gene transfer (HGT), rapid adaptation to changing environmental and host conditions contribute to successful spreading and persistence of these foodborne pathogens. However, extensive HGT can exert dangerous side effects for the bacterium, such as the incorporation of gene fragments leading to disturbed gene functions. Particularly, conventional laboratory **** are protected from C. jejuni infection due to the physiological colonization resistance exerted by the murine gut microbiota composition. Additionally, as compared to humans, **** are up to 10,000 times more resistant to C. jejuni lipooligosaccharide (LOS) constituting a major pathogenicity factor responsible for the immunopathological host responses during campylobacteriosis. In this chapter, we summarize the recent progress that has been made in overcoming these fundamental obstacles in Campylobacter research in ****.
