Moreover, multi beam radiation pattern of three types of lenses are compared. With the use of direct oral anticoagulants as a new option in the management of CAT, clinicians now face several choices for the individual cancer patient with venous thromboembolism. A personalized approach, matching the right drug to the right patient, based on drug properties, efficacy and safety, side effect profile of each drug, and patient values and preference, will probably supplant the one size fits all approach of use of only low-molecular-weight heparin in the near future. We herein present eight translational, clinical research, and review articles on recent advances in the management of CAT published in the Special Issue "Treatment for Cancer-Associated Thrombosis" of Cancers. For now, a multidisciplinary patient-centered approach involving a close cooperation between oncologists and other specialists is warranted to guide clinical decision making and optimize the treatment of VTE in cancer patient.The Vacuum Insulation Panel (VIP), regarded as the most promising high-performance thermal insulation material, still has application limitations because of its high cost. In this paper, VIPs using natural straw as the core material are prepared. The fiber saturation point (FSP) is important in order to determine the optimum for the use of renewable straw materials as a potential VIP core. The microstructure of straw core material, together with the relationship between the moisture content, the diametral compression strength, and the thermal conductivity of as-prepared straw VIPs are investigated. Compression characteristics of straw core material and heat insulation mechanism within the straw VIP envelope enclosure are analyzed. Total thermal conductivity of a straw VIP is sensitive to both the inner pressure and the moisture content of straw core material. The optimum drying process for straw VIPs is heating the straw core material at a temperature of 120 ℃ for 60 min, with its center-of-panel value being about 3.8 mW/(m·K).Pancreatic cancer is a challenging disease with a low 5-year survival rate. There are areas for improvement in the tools used for screening, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment selection, and assessing treatment response. Liquid biopsy, particularly cell free DNA liquid biopsy, has shown promise as an adjunct to our standard care for pancreatic cancer patients, but has not yet been universally adopted into regular use by clinicians. In this publication, we aim to review cfDNA liquid biopsy in pancreatic cancer with an emphasis on current techniques, clinical utility, and areas of active investigation. We feel that researchers and clinicians alike should be familiar with this exciting modality as it gains increasing importance in the care of cancer patients.

The reasons for variation in each strategy's efficacy in controlling COVID-19 epidemics were unclear and are investigated in this paper. On the basis of the daily number of confirmed local (imported) cases and onset-to-confirmation distributions for local cases, we initially estimated the daily number of local (imported) illness onsets by a deconvolution method for mainland China, South Korea, Japan and Spain, and then estimated the effective reproduction numbers R t by using a Bayesian method for each of the four countries. China and South Korea adopted a strict SARS LCS, to completely block the spread via lockdown, strict travel restrictions and by detection and isolation of patients, which led to persistent declines in effective reproduction numbers. In contrast, Japan and Spain adopted a typical PAIN LMS to mitigate the spread via maintaining social distance, self-quarantine and isolation etc., which reduced the R t values but with oscillations around 1. The finding suggests that governments may need to consider multiple factors such as quantities of medical resources, the likely extent of the public's compliance to different intensities of intervention measures, and the economic situation to design the most appropriate policies to fight COVID-19 epidemics.A prototype SIR model with vaccination at birth is analyzed in terms of the stability of its endemic equilibrium. In this paper, a comparison between two mathematical models that simulate several hemorrhagic scenarios is presented. The models considered are the Guyton and the Zenker model. In the vast panorama of existing cardiovascular mathematical models, we decided to compare these two models because they seem to be at the extremes as regards the complexity and the detail of information that they analyze. The Guyton model is a complex and highly structured model that represents a milestone in the study of the cardiovascular system; the Zenker model is a more recent one, developed in 2007, that is relatively simple and easy to implement. The comparison between the two models offers new prospects for the improvement of mathematical models of the cardiovascular system that may prove more effective in the study of hemorrhagic shock.Social organization is a key aspect of animal ecology, closely interlinked with all aspects of animal behaviour. Here, social network analysis, a set of statistical tools rooted in graph theory, suggests itself as a potential solution for this problem, by offering quantitative measures for various aspects of social relationships. In this review I will first introduce network analysis as a tool to characterize the social organization of animal groups and population and, then, focus on the application of this method for epidemiological modelling, specifically the prediction of spreading patterns of pathogens in livestock and its potential for informing targeted surveillance and planning of intervention measures.This paper proposes an optimization model for the integrated aircraft flight scheduling and routing problem, which allows a simultaneous determination of the departure time of each flight trip and assignment of a set of aircraft located at different airports to perform all flight trips. The proposed model envisages that each flight trip is covered by its own particular aircraft type or a larger airplane. Further, departure and arrival times of each flight trip are within a flexible time window in its aircraft's route and origin/destination airports, and the number of airplanes firstly distributed in the base airports is fully accounted for in the model. The model not only can effectively minimize weighted operation costs for the number of airplanes and the total idle time for adjacent flight trips covered by an aircraft, but also can maximize the number of transported passengers. This paper further presents a two-stage heuristic approach based on the ant colony optimization algorithm, which efficiently finds the most acceptable solutions.

  • All the patients had uneventful intraoperative and postoperative periods. The mean hospital stay was 6.4 (5-8) days. The median follow-up was 132 (46-156) months. The mean preoperative serum creatinine level was 1.0 (0.7-1.7) mg/dL. The mean creatinine value postoperatively and at last follow-up had no significant difference with preoperative value (p=0.96 and 0.75, respectively). The postoperative diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid scan demonstrated good perfusion and drainage. There was no deterioration of renal function or drainage during the follow-up.

    This study aimed to determine whether the length of the excised obstructed vas deferens at vasovasostomy (VV) performed for fertility is associated with semen parameters and/or pregnancy outcomes postoperatively.

    The patients who underwent a VV at our institution from September 2004 to December 2018 were contacted via questionnaire and a chart review was performed. Linear and logistic regression models were used to determine the associations between the length of the obstructed vas deferens removed and postoperative outcomes including sperm concentration, motility, and successful pregnancy after reversal.

    A total of 83/170 questionnaires were returned. After exclusions, a total of 35 patients were included for analysis. The mean age of the patients at the time of surgery was 40.1 years and the mean time since vasectomy 9.3 years. The mean length of the obstructed vas deferens removed during VV was 2.25 cm. The longer the vas deferens segments removed, the more significant was the increase in sperm motility at 3 and 9 months postoperatively (p=0.011 and 0.008, respectively), but decreased sperm motility at 6 months (p=0.029). In 75.9% of the patients, sperm was present postoperatively, 23.2% achieved pregnancy through natural conception, and 55.8% achieved pregnancy using assisted reproductive techniques. There was no significant relationship between the length of the vas deferens removed and sperm concentration or pregnancy achieved after surgery.

    The purpose of this study was to compare the results of tubeless percutaneous nephrolithotomy (TPNL) and standard percutaneous nephrolithotomy (SPNL) for the management of nephrolithiasis in children.

    The data for 48 patients aged lesser than 18 years who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL) between January 2010 and June 2018 were reviewed retrospectively. The patients were classified into 2 categories depending on tube placement. A total of 21 patients were treated with TPNL and 27 with SPNL technique. The surgical method employed was selected depending on intraoperative complications. The size of the endoscopic instrument (mini/standard) to be used was decided according to the stone burden and surgeon preference.

    A complete stone-free rate (SFR) was achieved in 85.7% (n=18) of the TPNL group and 85.2% (n=23) of the SPNL group (p=0.959). In the TPNL group, two patients with clinically significant stones underwent retrograde intrarenal surgery, and one patient with clinically insignificant residual stone remained under follow-up. In the SPNL group, two patients with clinically significant stones underwent repeat mini-PNL surgery, the stones being fragmented with shock wave lithotripsy in one patient, and 1 one patient with insignificant residual stone remained under follow-up. No significant differences were observed in terms of intraoperative and postoperative complications, mean SFRs, or operative and fluoroscopy times. However, a statistically significant difference was observed in lengths of hospital stay (p<0.001).

  • Currently, continuous blood pressure (BP) measurements are mostly based on multi-sensor combinations and datasets with limited BP ranges. Besides, most BP-related features derive from the photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal. The mechanism of PPG signal formation is not considered. We aimed to design a noninvasive and continuous method for estimation of BP using a single PPG sensor, which takes the mechanism of PPG signal formation into account.

    We prepared a dataset containing PPG signals for 294 patients from three public databases for constructing the BP estimation model. The features used in the model consisted of two types novel features based on a multi-Gaussian model and existing features. The multi-Gaussian model fitted the different components (i.e. the main wave, the dicrotic wave and the tidal wave) of the PPG signal. Ensemble machine learning algorithms were applied to estimate systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). When partitioning the dataset, there was an overlap between the training set and the testing set.

    Datasets with a wide-range of SBP and DBP values (SBP ranging from 74 to 229 mmHg and DBP ranging from 26 to 141 mmHg) were used to evaluate our method. The mean and standard deviation of error for SBP and DBP estimations were -0.21 ± 5.21 mmHg and -0.19 ± 3.37 mmHg, respectively. The model performance fully met the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation standard and was grade 'A' on the British Hypertension Society standard.

State-of-the-art studies have investigated how gut microbes communicate with our body systems through microbiota-derived metabolites and how they are able to modulate host physiology. There is now mounting evidence that alterations in the composition of small intestinal microbes have an association with GI dysmotility and metabolic disorders. Although treatment options for gut microbial dysbiosis are currently limited, antibiotics, fecal microbiota transplantation, probiotics, and dietary interventions are currently the best options. However, treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics has been viewed with skepticism due to the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria.     Infertile couples consider patient information a very important dimension of patient-centred care. Although testicular sperm extraction (TESE) followed by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) has long been offered to infertile couples, little is known about couples' informational needs. The aim of this study was to identify the informational needs of couples undergoing TESE and ICSI, including information content and the channels providing the information as a first step to improve patient-centred care.

    We conducted a qualitative study consisting of semi-structured interviews with 11 couples. The topic guide was based on a literature review and interviews with an expert panel. The number of interviews was determined with data saturation. The data were analysed using a constant comparative method.

    The couples needed information about many topics. They considered information about the success rates of the treatment, an explanation of the treatment procedure, and other patient experiences the most important. Regarding information channels, the couples preferred face-to-face information, but they also valued a leaflet, website, or an online application, especially when it is personalized or providing interactive functionalities.

    We obtained in-depth insight into the information needs of couples undergoing TESE and ICSI. The results of this study give fertility clinics an opportunity to develop patient information that meets the needs of their patients and thus improve patient-centred fertility care.

In this work, we developed a novel TAMs and tumor cells dual-targeting nanoparticle (ATpep-NPs) system for cancer chemotherapy by integrating a docetaxel (DTX)-loaded nanocarrier and a multi-function peptide ATpep, which is composed of a phagocytosis-stimulating peptide-tuftsin (Tpep) fused with a substrate peptide-alanine-alanine-asparagine (AAN) of endoprotease legumain. In vitro protelytic and cellular uptake assays confirmed ATpep-NPs can be responsively activated into Tpep-NPs by cleavage of legumain that is overexpressed in both tumor cells and TAMs, which then promoted tumor cells internalization and TAMs phagocytosis through neuropilin-1/Fc receptor pathways. Although testicular sperm extraction (TESE) followed by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) has long been offered to infertile couples, little is known about couples' informational needs. The aim of this study was to identify the informational needs of couples undergoing TESE and ICSI, including information content and the channels providing the information as a first step to improve patient-centred care. We conducted a qualitative study consisting of semi-structured interviews with 11 couples. The topic guide was based on a literature review and interviews with an expert panel. The number of interviews was determined with data saturation. The data were analysed using a constant comparative method. The couples needed information about many topics. They considered information about the success rates of the treatment, an explanation of the treatment procedure, and other patient experiences the most important. Regarding information channels, the couples preferred face-to-face information, but they also valued a leaflet, website, or an online application, especially when it is personalized or providing interactive functionalities. We obtained in-depth insight into the information needs of couples undergoing TESE and ICSI. Extensive literature provides evidence that physical activity (PA) delays the onset of cognitive impairment; however, it is unclear whether engaging in PA in older adulthood is sufficient to influence progression through cognitive status categories.

    Applying a coordinated analysis approach, this project independently analyzed fourteen longitudinal studies (NTotal = 52,039; mean baseline age across studies= 69.9-81.73) from North America and Europe using multi-state survival models to estimate the impact of engaging in PA on cognitive status transitions (non-impaired, mildly impaired, severely impaired) and death. Multinomial regression models were fit to estimate life expectancy (LE) based on American PA recommendations. Meta-analyses provided the pooled effect sizes for the role of PA on each transition and estimated LEs.

    Controlling for baseline age, sex, education and chronic conditions, analyses revealed that more PA is significantly associated with decreased risk of transitioning from non-impaired to mildly impaired cognitive functioning and death, as well as substantially longer LE. Results also provided evidence for a protective effect of PA after onset of cognitive impairment (e.g., decreased risk of transitioning from mild to severe cognitive impairment; increased likelihood of transitioning backward from severe to mild cognitive impairment), though between-study heterogeneity suggests a less robust association.

We examined antecedents and outcomes of family-to-work enrichment (FWE) and work-to-family enrichment (WFE) among working family caregivers of PWD. In terms of antecedents, we investigated whether factors that alleviated work-family conflict increased enrichment.

We examined the mediational effects of WFE and FWE on associations between participants' work resources (job control, supervisor support, co-worker support, and organizational support) and caregiving support and their well-being (psychological distress and quality of life). We also examined the moderating effect of caregiving self-efficacy on the relationships between caregiving support/caregiving demands and ld focus on supporting companies to create family-friendly work environments.     As a first approach, Pinto Saltillo (PS), Azufrado Higuera (AH), and Negro Jamapa Plus (NP) were assessed phenotypically and physiologically to determine the outcome in response to drought on these common bean cultivars. Based on this, a Next-generation sequencing approach was applied to PS, which was the most drought-tolerant cultivar to determine the molecular changes at the transcriptional level. The RNA-Seq analysis revealed that numerous PS genes are dynamically modulated by drought. Notably, coalescent-based ASTRAL species phylogenies inferred from Run1 and Run2 sets of individual gene trees are topologically irreproducible for 9/15 phylogenomic datasets, whereas concatenation-based phylogenies inferred twice from the same supermatrix are reproducible. Here, exploiting this strong in-plane anisotropy, we report edge-tailored hyperbolic polaritons in patterned α-MoO3 nanocavities via real-space nanoimaging. We find that the angle between the edge orientation and the crystallographic direction significantly affects the optical response, and can serve as a key tuning parameter in tailoring the polaritonic patterns. By shaping α-MoO3 nanocavities with different geometries, we observe edge-oriented and steerable hyperbolic polaritons as well as forbidden zones where the polaritons detour. Adding SPP and PPG had positive effects on the bacterial richness and diversity, negative effects on the fungal richness and diversity. The microbial diversity and richness were higher in PPG than SPP. Non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis clearly separated SPP and PPG from the control treatment with no additives. In all treatments, the major bacterial species differed clearly in the later thermophilic, cooling, and maturation composting stages, whereas the main fungal species varied significantly in the thermophilic stage. The changes in the dominant microorganisms in SPP and PPG may have inhibited or promoted the degradation of organic matter during various composting stages. Adding SPP and PPG led to more complex bacterial networks and less complex fungal networks, where SPP had more adverse effects on the fungal networks than PPG. SPP and PPG could potentially alter the co-occurrence patterns of the bacterial and fungal communities by changing the most influential species. SPP and PPG changed the composition and succession of the microbial community by influencing different physiochemical properties during various composting stages where the pH was the main explanatory factor. For instance, understanding how consumers perceive the risks associated with pollution can help with adoption of safe behaviors to reduce the health hazard associated with pollutant exposure. This study focused on the southeastern United States, a region predicted to be exposed to high mercury stress by increasing mercury deposition and methylation. First, we placed our study region in the world map of regions more prone to suffer from increasing mercury stress in a climate change scenario. Second, mercury levels in fish tissues was quantified by direct mercury analyzer (DMA). Third, we explored human fish consumption habits and risk social perception, including willingness to adapt fish consumption based on two future hypothetical scenarios of mercury stress. From a global perspective, our analysis demonstrates that the southern US is one of five world areas of greatest conservation concern for mercury stress. In this region, the average mono-methyl mercury concentration in fish tissues exceeded the limits considered safe for human consumption. Even though many in the local population were aware of the health hazards associated with fish consumption, only women of reproductive age were willing to adopt safe consumption habits. Altogether, these results show how bringing together field data, social perceptions, and consumption habits can help in designing an adaptive strategy to confront mercury pollution. Although our results are for the United States, other world regions prone to suffer increasing mercury stress have been identified and should be the focus of future studies and prescriptions.Deammonification (partial nitritation-anammox) process is a favorable and innovative process, for treatment of nitrogen-rich wastewater due to decreased oxygen and carbon requirements at very high nitrogen loadings. The bacterial groups responsible for this process are anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) bacteria in symbiosis with ammonium oxidizing bacteria (AOB) which have an active role in development of nitrogen removal biotechnology in wastewater. Development and operation of sidestream deammonification processes has augmented since the initial full-scale systems, yet there are several aspects which mandate additional investigation and deliberation by the practitioners, to reach the operating perspective, set for the facility. Process technologies for treatment of streams with high ammonia concentrations continue to emerge, correspondingly, further investigation towards feasibility of applying the deammonification concept, in the mainstream treatment process is required. Mainstream deammonification can potentially improve the process of achieving more sustainable and energy-neutral municipal wastewater treatment, however feasible applications are not accessible yet.

  • Carbon-based materials have been applied as cost-effective electrocatalysts to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) into valuable chemicals. Here, an environment-friendly method is proposed to obtain nitrogen-doped porous carbons (NPCs) from digested sludge, which is an abundant waste product from sewage treatment plants. The materials were used as a metal-free electrocatalyst for electrochemical reduction of CO2 to formate. The synthesized material (NPC-600) had a mesoporous and microporous structure with a specific surface area of 246.21 m2 g-1 and pore volume of 0.494 cm3 g-1. Active sites based on nitrogen atoms accounted for 2.98 atom% of the content and included pyrrolic-, pyridinic-, and graphitic-N, which is useful for CO2 adsorption and electron transfer in electrochemical reduction. The Faradaic efficiency for formate production from CO2 in the presence of NPC-600 was 68% at the potential of -1.5 V vs. SCE. Tafel analysis indicated that the pathway of CO2 conversion involved the reduction of CO2 to CO2*- intermediate, which was then converted to HCOO*- and finally formate.A relevant but yet unconsidered subset of particles that may alter the fate of extracellular antibiotic resistance genes (eARGs) are nano-scale particles (NPs), which are ubiquitous in natural environments and have unique properties. In this study, sorption isotherms were developed describing the association of linear DNA fragments isolated from widespread eARGs (blaI and nptII) with either micon-sized kaolinite or silica nanoparticles (SNPs), to determine if sorption capacity was enhanced at the nanoscale. For each isotherm, eARG fragments were added at five starting concentrations (5-40 μg/mL) to mixed batch systems with 0.25 g of particles and nuclease-free water. Sorption was quantified by the removal of DNA from solution, as detected by a Qubit fluorimeter. Isotherms were developed for eARGs of various fragment lengths (508, 680 and 861 bp), guanine-cytosine (GC) contents (34%, 47% and 54%) and both double and single stranded eARGs, to assess the impact of DNA properties on particle association. Sorption isotherms were also developed in systems with added humic acid and/or CaCl2, to assess the impact of these environmental parameters on sorption. FTIR analysis was performed to analyze the conformation of sorbed eARGs. Desorption of eARGs was studied by quantifying the removal of eDNA from washed and vortexed post-sorption particles. Statistically significant irreversible sorption of eARGs to environmentally relevant NPs (humic acid functionalized silica nanoparticles) was demonstrated for the first time. Nano-emergent properties did not increase sorption capacity of eARGs, but led to a unique compressed conformation of sorbed eARGs. The addition of humic acid, increased CaCl2 concentration and small DNA fragment size favored sorption. NPs showed a slight preference for the sorption of single-stranded DNA over double-stranded DNA. These findings suggest that NP association with eARGs may be a significant and unique environmental phenomenon that could influence the spread of antibiotic resistance.With observational analysis and WRF-Chem simulation on a heavy air pollution event in January 2019 over the Twain-Hu Basin (THB) in Central China, this study characterized the regional transport of PM2.5 emitted from the North China Plain (NCP) to the THB region in Central China and quantitatively assessed the influence of the regional PM2.5 transport and precipitation washout on PM2.5 change in the wintertime heavy air pollution over the THB. It was found that the THB's heavy air pollution event was exacerbated by the strong northeasterly winds driving a quasi 2-day time lag of regional PM2.5 transport from the NCP to the THB. The multi-scale atmospheric circulations of cold air invasion influenced by East Asian winter monsoon and the terrain block of THB altered the structures of regional PM2.5 transport in deteriorating air quality to the THB. It was assessed for the THB region that the enhancing contribution of regional PM2.5 transport to the high air pollution level reached up to 70.5% in the heavy air pollution, and the precipitation washout could contribute the 55.3% PM2.5 removal to dissipating the PM2.5 pollution over the THB with frequent precipitation and wet environment, distinguishing from the dominance of wind-cleaning air pollution in the other regions in China.The utilization of biomass pyrolysis volatile-derived water-dissolved organic matter (WOM, often called wood vinegar) determines sustainable recycling of biomass. Further, pyrolysis temperature significantly controls the cracking of biomass components, resulting in various molecular compositions and biological responses of WOM. Although it has been widely used in the agriculture, the relationship between molecular compositions and biological responses affected by heating temperature is still unclear. Here, it was observed that the WOM concentration increased with increasing temperatures and the pyrolysis of 1 g biomass can generate ~ WOM with 36.24 mg C. Moreover, with increasing pyrolysis temperatures, the generated WOM consisted of more phenols but fewer alcohols, furans, acids, and ketones, and demonstrated characteristics of higher aromaticity and lower m/z molecular weight. Due to the enhanced polarity, high temperatures promoted the solubility of WOM. Germination tests show that low pyrolysis temperatures-derived WOM ( 400 °C) with small-molecular-weight and high oxygen-containing (high O/Cwa) inhibited growth. For each isotherm, eARG fragments were added at five starting concentrations (5-40 μg/mL) to mixed batch systems with 0.25 g of particles and nuclease-free water. Sorption was quantified by the removal of DNA from solution, as detected by a Qubit fluorimeter. Isotherms were developed for eARGs of various fragment lengths (508, 680 and 861 bp), guanine-cytosine (GC) contents (34%, 47% and 54%) and both double and single stranded eARGs, to assess the impact of DNA properties on particle association. Sorption isotherms were also developed in systems with added humic acid and/or CaCl2, to assess the impact of these environmental parameters on sorption. FTIR analysis was performed to analyze the conformation of sorbed eARGs. Desorption of eARGs was studied by quantifying the removal of eDNA from washed and vortexed post-sorption particles. Statistically significant irreversible sorption of eARGs to environmentally relevant NPs (humic acid functionalized silica nanoparticles) was demonstrated for the first time. Nano-emergent properties did not increase sorption capacity of eARGs, but led to a unique compressed conformation of sorbed eARGs. The addition of humic acid, increased CaCl2 concentration and small DNA fragment size favored sorption. NPs showed a slight preference for the sorption of single-stranded DNA over double-stranded DNA. These findings suggest that NP association with eARGs may be a significant and unique environmental phenomenon that could influence the spread of antibiotic resistance.With observational analysis and WRF-Chem simulation on a heavy air pollution event in January 2019 over the Twain-Hu Basin (THB) in Central China, this study characterized the regional transport of PM2.5 emitted from the North China Plain (NCP) to the THB region in Central China and quantitatively assessed the influence of the regional PM2.5 transport and precipitation washout on PM2.5 change in the wintertime heavy air pollution over the THB. It was found that the THB's heavy air pollution event was exacerbated by the strong northeasterly winds driving a quasi 2-day time lag of regional PM2.5 transport from the NCP to the THB. The multi-scale atmospheric circulations of cold air invasion influenced by East Asian winter monsoon and the terrain block of THB altered the structures of regional PM2.5 transport in deteriorating air quality to the THB. It was assessed for the THB region that the enhancing contribution of regional PM2.5 transport to the high air pollution level reached up to 70.5% in the heavy air pollution, and the precipitation washout could contribute the 55.3% PM2.5 removal to dissipating the PM2.5 pollution over the THB with frequent precipitation and wet environment, distinguishing from the dominance of wind-cleaning air pollution in the other regions in China.The utilization of biomass pyrolysis volatile-derived water-dissolved organic matter (WOM, often called wood vinegar) determines sustainable recycling of biomass. Further, pyrolysis temperature significantly controls the cracking of biomass components, resulting in various molecular compositions and biological responses of WOM. Although it has been widely used in the agriculture, the relationship between molecular compositions and biological responses affected by heating temperature is still unclear. Here, it was observed that the WOM concentration increased with increasing temperatures and the pyrolysis of 1 g biomass can generate ~ WOM with 36.24 mg C. Moreover, with increasing pyrolysis temperatures, the generated WOM consisted of more phenols but fewer alcohols, furans, acids, and ketones, and demonstrated characteristics of higher aromaticity and lower m/z molecular weight. Due to the enhanced polarity, high temperatures promoted the solubility of WOM. Germination tests show that low pyrolysis temperatures-derived WOM ( 400 °C) with small-molecular-weight and high oxygen-containing (high O/Cwa) inhibited growth. Our results showed that five air pollutants (i.e., PM2.5, PM10, SO2, NO2, and CO) decreased by 30.0-59.8% during the lockdown compared to those before the lockdown, while O3 increased by 63.9% during the lockdown mainly due to the inefficient titration effect of O3 via NO reduction. The increased O3 concentration can boost the atmospheric oxidizing capacity and further enhance the formation of secondary organic aerosols, thereby significantly enhancing the C2 particles and its precursors as observed during the lockdown.
