Beneficial plant-microbe interactions lead to physiological and biochemical changes that may result in plant-growth promotion. This study evaluated the effect of the interaction between sugarcane and endophytic bacterial strains on plant physiological and biochemical responses under two levels of nitrogen (N) fertilization. Six strains of endophytic bacteria, previously selected as plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB), were used to inoculate sugarcane mini stalks, with and without N fertilization. After 45 days, biomass production; shoot nutrient concentrations; foliar polyamine and free amino acid profiles; activities of nitrate reductase and glutamine synthase; and the relative transcript levels of the GS1, GS2, and SHR5 genes in sugarcane leaves were determined. A random-effects model was used to generate the pooled prevalence of DRPs along with its corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI). The heterogeneity of the results was estimated using the I2 statistics, and Cochran's Q test and sensitivity analyses were performed to confirm the robustness of the results. SHANK3 is the abbreviation for SH3 domain and ankyrin repeat-containing protein, a gene that encodes for proteins of the postsynaptic density (PSD) of excitatory synapses. This PSD is relevant for the induction and plasticity of spine and synapse formation as a basis for learning processes and long-term potentiation. Individuals with PMcD present with intellectual disability, muscular hypotonia, and severely delayed or absent speech. Further neuropsychiatric manifestations cover symptoms of the autism spectrum, epilepsy, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, and regression. Regression is one of the most feared syndromes by relatives of PMcD patients. Current scientific evidence indicates that the onset of regression is variable and affects language, motor skills, activities of daily living and cognition. In the case of regression, patients normally undergo further diagnostics to exclude treatable reasons such as complex-focal seizures or psychiatric comorbidities. Here, we report, for the first time, the case of a young female who developed progressive symptoms of regression and a dystonic-spastic hemiparesis that could be traced **** to a comorbid multiple sclerosis and that improved after treatment with methylprednisolone.Currently, colorectal cancer (CRC) is mainly identified via a visual assessment during colonoscopy, increasingly used artificial intelligence algorithms, or surgery. Subsequently, CRC is confirmed through a histopathological examination by a pathologist. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI), a non-invasive optical imaging technology, has shown promising results in the medical field. In the current study, we combined HSI with several artificial intelligence algorithms to discriminate CRC. Between July 2019 and May 2020, 54 consecutive patients undergoing colorectal resections for CRC were included. The tumor was imaged from the mucosal side with a hyperspectral camera. The image annotations were classified into three groups (cancer, CA; adenomatous margin around the central tumor, AD; and healthy mucosa, HM). Classification and visualization were performed based on a four-layer perceptron neural network. Based on a neural network, the classification of CA or AD resulted in a sensitivity of 86% and a specificity of 95%, by means of leave-one-patient-out cross-validation.

Pneumatic tube transport of blood gas samples is a common method of delivery within a facility. The effects of pneumatic tube transport on blood gas analysis has been studied. However, other analytes that are often assessed in blood gas analysis (eg, electrolytes, metabolites, and oximetry) are not typically included in these studies. We sought to investigate the impact of pneumatic tube transport on some of these other analytes.
The study was conducted at the blood gas laboratory at the University of Utah Hospital. A split sample comparison was performed. Both samples were walked to a pneumatic tube station, where one sample was sent via tube to the blood gas laboratory, while the other sample was walked **** to blood gas laboratory. We examined 2 samples from each of the 27 different pneumatic tube stations in this hospital. Results were graphed with upper and lower control limits set to conform to acceptable College of American Pathologists proficiency testing evaluation criteria. Data were compared using the Student
test.
Differences between walked and tubed specimens were neither clinically nor statistically significant.

There is a paucity of research on e-cigarette use among adults with chronic lung disease. Accordingly, little is known about the factors that may contribute to e-cigarette use in this population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between chronic lung disease and e-cigarette use and to determine whether binge drinking moderates this relationship.
Data were derived from the 2018 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS). Logistic regression was used to test the association between chronic lung disease status and e-cigarette use, controlling for demographic variables and chronic health conditions. We conducted moderation analyses to test the hypothesis that the association between chronic lung disease and lifetime e-cigarette use would be modified by binge drinking.
The prevalence of lifetime e-cigarette use was higher among adults with chronic lung disease than among those without, and more frequent binge drinking was associated with an increased likelihood of lifetime e-stration NCT04135404.).

In mechanically ventilated subjects, intra-tracheal secretions can be aspirated with either open suction systems (OSS) or closed suction systems (CSS). In contrast to CSS, conventional OSS require temporarily disconnecting the patient from the ventilator, which briefly diminishes PEEP and oxygen supply. On the other hand, CSS are more expensive and less effective at aspirating secretions. Thus, it was hypothesized that the 2 procedures differentially affect pulmonary and cardiovascular parameters after suction.
Subjects in the ICU (
= 66) were quasi-randomized for initial treatment with OSS or CSS in a crossover design. To compare the potential for these suction systems to compromise cardiorespiratory stability, changes in cardiopulmonary physiology were assessed from before to just after use of each suction system (three 10-s aspirations).

This is a cross-sectional study to assess the performance of compressors from nebulizer systems used by subjects with cystic fibrosis registered at the Cystic Fibrosis Patient Association in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Compressors (Proneb Ultra II) brought by the individuals were tested with new nebulizer parts (Pari LC plus) to assess the variables of nebulization efficiency, including residual volume, solution output, and aerosol output rate. Compression performance was assessed by measuring the operating pressure using a PARI PG101 manometer.
The performance of 146 compressors was analyzed. Fifty-seven (39%) of the compressors were ineffective, with operating pressure values well below the manufacturer's technical reference and the compressor time used for a median time of 36 (15 days to 156 months). The systems with low pressure values demonstrated significantly worse results for nebulization efficiency variables, and a significant correlation was found between residual volume (r = -0.5,

Although we could not characterize the genotype of the circulating HEV strain, the clear epidemiological difference between seroprevalence of HAV and HEV in a community with poor sanitary conditions suggest that the circulating HEV strains spread through a different transmission route than HAV. Furthermore a significant correlation between anti-HEV IgG and ***** farming was found (p less then 0.05), which supports a zoonotic transmission path. We reassessed the epidemiological pattern of HAV infection and reported evidence of HEV infection for the first-time in a community belonging to the Guarani ethnic group, highlighting the need to include hepatitis E testing in routine diagnostics in the region.
The lost-wax technique is commonly used for fabricating partial fixed dental prostheses. The casting patterns can be fabricated by using vat photopolymerization (a type of additive manufacturing), but the adaptation of these casting patterns has not been elucidated.
The purpose of this invitro study was to evaluate the effect of build orientation on the adaptation of casting patterns fabricated by digital light projection (DLP).
A 3-unit partial fixed dental prosthesis with mandibular left second premolar and second molar abutment teeth was scanned and virtually designed with a computer-aided design software program. The cement space was designed to be 30 μm. Specimens were fabricated with 3 build orientations 0 degrees (with the occlusal surface parallel to the platform), 30 degrees, and 45 degrees (by rotating the file along the long axis). The casting patterns were fabricated by using DLP (Cara Print 4.0) with a photopolymerizable monomer (dima Print Cast Q). Photopolymerization, cleaning, and postpoon, and the 45-degree specimens were not completely seated. However, the marginal gaps of the 0- and 30-degree specimens were within the clinically acceptable limit of 120 μm.
The limited data indicated that the build orientation influenced the adaptation of casting patterns for 3-unit partial fixed dental prostheses fabricated by using DLP. A build orientation of 0 degrees is recommended for fabricating casting patterns for 3-unit partial fixed dental prostheses because no excess polymerization of the intaglio buccal wall was observed.

In our study, we contrasted n = 31 homozygous APOE ε4 carriers (age=34.47 years, including a subsample of n = 12 subjects with depression) with a demographically matched sample without an ε4 allele (resulting total sample N = 62). Morphometry analyses included a) Freesurfer based cortical segmentations of thickness and surface area measures and b) tract based spatial statistics of DTI measures. We found pronounced and widespread reductions in cortical surface area of ε4 homozygotes in 57 out of 68 cortical brain regions. In contrast, no differences in cortical thickness were observed. Furthermore, APOE ε4 homozygous carriers showed significantly lower fractional anisotropy in the corpus callosum, the right internal and external capsule, the left corona radiata and the right fornix. The present findings support a global rather than regionally specific effect of homozygous APOE ε4 allele status on cortical surface area and white matter microstructure. Future studies should aim to delineate the clinical implications of these findings.
Although we could not characterize the genotype of the circulating HEV strain, the clear epidemiological difference between seroprevalence of HAV and HEV in a community with poor sanitary conditions suggest that the circulating HEV strains spread through a different transmission route than HAV. Furthermore a significant correlation between anti-HEV IgG and swine farming was found (p less then 0.05), which supports a zoonotic transmission path. We reassessed the epidemiological pattern of HAV infection and reported evidence of HEV infection for the first-time in a community belonging to the Guarani ethnic group, highlighting the need to include hepatitis E testing in routine diagnostics in the region. The casting patterns can be fabricated by using vat photopolymerization (a type of additive manufacturing), but the adaptation of these casting patterns has not been elucidated. The purpose of this invitro study was to evaluate the effect of build orientation on the adaptation of casting patterns fabricated by digital light projection (DLP). A 3-unit partial fixed dental prosthesis with mandibular left second premolar and second molar abutment teeth was scanned and virtually designed with a computer-aided design software program. The cement space was designed to be 30 μm. Specimens were fabricated with 3 build orientations 0 degrees (with the occlusal surface parallel to the platform), 30 degrees, and 45 degrees (by rotating the file along the long axis). The casting patterns were fabricated by using DLP (Cara Print 4.0) with a photopolymerizable monomer (dima Print Cast Q). Photopolymerization, cleaning, and postpoon, and the 45-degree specimens were not completely seated. However, the marginal gaps of the 0- and 30-degree specimens were within the clinically acceptable limit of 120 μm. Results The expression of UNC5B-AS1 in lung cancer tissues and cells was significantly higher than that in adjacent tissues and bronchial epithelial cells (P<0.05). Therefore, for in vitro fertilization (IVF), oocyte and sperm were co-cultured in Tris-buffered medium (TBM) either supplemented with 10% OFF (OFFD group), or in the presence of a bovine OEC monolayer (OEC group), or the oocytes were exposed to OFF for 30 min before IVF (OFFB group), or in the presence of an OEC monolayer (OFFB + OEC group). Regardless of sperm concentration used (0.5, 1.5, and 4.5 × 105 cells/ml), supplementation of IVF medium with 10% OFF led to an increased (P 0.05) of the penetration rate in comparison with the control and OEC groups. When the IVF medium was supplemented with heparin, an overall increase (P less then 0.05) of the final output of the IVF system in terms of zygotes with two pronuclei (2PN) was observed in the OFFD group, compared with the control and OEC groups, at a sperm concentration of 4.5 × 105 cells/ml. To investigate the feasibility of using an ultraviolet light-emitting diode (UV LED) robot for the terminal decontamination of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patient rooms.
We assessed the presence of viral RNA in samples from environmental surfaces before and after UV LED irradiation in COVID-19 patient rooms after patient discharge.
We analyzed 216 environmental samples from 17 rooms 2 from airborne infection isolation rooms (AIIRs) in the intensive care unit (ICU) and 15 from isolation rooms in the community treatment center (CTC). Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA was detected in 40 (18.5%) of 216 samples after patient discharge 12 (33.3%) of 36 samples from AIIRs in the ICU, and 28 (15.6%) of 180 samples from isolation rooms in the CTC. In 1 AIIR, all samples were PCR negative after UV LED irradiation. In the CTC rooms, 14 (8.6%) of the 163 samples were PCR positive after UV LED irradiation. However, viable virus was not recovered from the culture of any of the PCR-positive samples.

Therefore, for in vitro fertilization (IVF), oocyte and sperm were co-cultured in Tris-buffered medium (TBM) either supplemented with 10% OFF (OFFD group), or in the presence of a bovine OEC monolayer (OEC group), or the oocytes were exposed to OFF for 30 min before IVF (OFFB group), or in the presence of an OEC monolayer (OFFB + OEC group). Regardless of sperm concentration used (0.5, 1.5, and 4.5 × 105 cells/ml), supplementation of IVF medium with 10% OFF led to an increased (P 0.05) of the penetration rate in comparison with the control and OEC groups. When the IVF medium was supplemented with heparin, an overall increase (P less then 0.05) of the final output of the IVF system in terms of zygotes with two pronuclei (2PN) was observed in the OFFD group, compared with the control and OEC groups, at a sperm concentration of 4.5 × 105 cells/ml. We conclude that the concept of witnessing helps to acknowledge caregivers' experiential knowledge of QoL of a person with PIMD, which may also apply to other persons who cannot speak about their own QoL. We hope that our study will empower caregivers to give testimonies on QoL of a person with PIMD, which is crucial when complex decisions about the life of this person have to be made.

This review article discusses relevant literature as well as our own data and experiences with the Boston keratoprosthesis in high-risk eyes. The relevant complications as well as the postoperative management are discussed.
In more than 60% of the high-risk eyes along-term increase in visual acuity can be achieved. Keratoprosthesis retention rates show avariable span with reported mean 5‑year retention rates of 75%. The most common postoperative complications include the formation of aretroprosthetic membrane and keratolysis in up to 50% each. More than 70% of the eyes already suffer from (secondary) glaucoma preoperatively, so that glaucoma surgery is performed simultaneously in at least 20% of cases and in the postoperative course further antiglaucomatous surgery is necessary in up to 31%. Vitreoretinal complications include, in particular, sterile vitritis and infectious endophthalmitis but persistent hypotonia is also described in one third of patients.

Postoperative complications are common; therefore, postoperative management plays an important role. The relevance of citicoline is explained against the background of neuroanatomy, neuroimaging, and the pathogenesis of glaucoma. Data from experimental and clinical studies are presented and aconclusion is drawn for clinical application.

Citicoline can be taken permanently or in cycles. No side effects occurred in the studies when taking citicoline. Citicoline can improve cognitive performance and thus treatment adherence as well as quality of life in glaucoma patients.

We enrolled 1000 patients; 791 were admitted to the general medical service and 209 to the ICU; 82 of these 209 patients died. The ROC curves of the CHA2DS2-VASc and M-CHA2DS2-VASc scores were analyzed. The cut-off values of these scores for predicting mortality were ≥ 3 (2 or under and 3). We report here a near-infrared (NIR) emitting lanthanide-based metal-organic framework (MOF) in which Yb3+ are sensitized by fluorescein (FL) as a low energy absorbing chromophore (FL@CD-MOF-161). The unique design of CD-MOF-161 allows for the entrapment of FL molecules in its pores during the synthesis and crystal growth, ensuring the efficient loading and spreading of chromophores within the crystal volume.
Suboptimal bowel cleansing is common in children and can impact diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes. We aimed to identify risk factors for suboptimal bowel preparation for colonoscopy in pediatric patients.
This was a retrospective study of all patients ages 0 to 21 years who underwent colonoscopy at a children's hospital from 2015 to 2019 in the United States. Demographics and clinical information were obtained from the electronic health record. The primary outcome was suboptimal bowel preparation measured by the endoscopist on a dichotomized Aronchik Scale. Univariate and multivariate regression modeling were used to determine independent predictors of suboptimal preparation.
Nine hundred and eight patients (mean age 12.17 years [±5.14], boys 465 (51.2%), were included in the analysis. Suboptimal preparation was noted in 242 (26.7%). On univariate analysis, suboptimal preparation was more common in those of younger age (38.6%), Medicaid (32.1%), Spanish as primary language (35.7%), and failure to thri risk factors as well as highlight distinct associations from those reported in the adult literature including FTT and younger age. IBD was associated with optimal cleansing. Future research to understand the mechanisms of inferred risk or potential protection is required.

A genetic study revealed novel homozygous mutations c.1687_1688delinsC p.Ser563Profs∗25 in the USP53 gene. His parents carried the same heterozygous mutation in the USP53 gene.

There are limited data on the natural history of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in Asian American children. The aim of the present study was to describe a single-center experience of chronic HBV infection in Chinese American patients in New York City.
A retrospective chart review was conducted for patients with chronic HBV infection who had pediatric visits from 2006 to 2017. Clinical and laboratory data were collected to characterize the status of HBV infection and its disease course both cross-sectionally and longitudinally. Available maternal charts were reviewed.
Of the total 353 patients, 72 patients (20%) were US-born. Positive hepatitis B envelope antigen (HBeAg) was documented in 208 patients (58%). Three phases of chronic HBV infection were categorized for 329 patients immune-tolerant 112 (34%), HBeAg-positive immune-active 47 (14%), and inactive carrier 82 (25%). The remaining 88 patients (27%) did not fit into a particular category with 26 of 88 patients meeting the criteria for inactive carrier except for mildly elevated alanine aminotransferase. Age and liver enzyme levels were significantly different between HBeAg-positive and HBeAg-negative groups (P < 0.05). Among 179 patients followed for ≥5 years, the spontaneous seroconversion rate was 38%. In eight patients with linked maternal data, all children completed the HBV vaccine series and seven of eight received hepatitis B immunoglobulin. All mothers were HBeAg-positive with high HBV DNA and had no anti-viral therapy during pregnancy.

Surveys were completed by 70 paediatric gastroenterologists (PGs) from 27 nations across Europe, North America, Oceania and Asia from 62 centres covering approximately 15,000 PIBD patients (median of 200 patients [interquartile range (IQR) 130-300] per centre). We report here a near-infrared (NIR) emitting lanthanide-based metal-organic framework (MOF) in which Yb3+ are sensitized by fluorescein (FL) as a low energy absorbing chromophore (FL@CD-MOF-161). The unique design of CD-MOF-161 allows for the entrapment of FL molecules in its pores during the synthesis and crystal growth, ensuring the efficient loading and spreading of chromophores within the crystal volume. Suboptimal bowel cleansing is common in children and can impact diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes. We aimed to identify risk factors for suboptimal bowel preparation for colonoscopy in pediatric patients. This was a retrospective study of all patients ages 0 to 21 years who underwent colonoscopy at a children's hospital from 2015 to 2019 in the United States. Demographics and clinical information were obtained from the electronic health record. The primary outcome was suboptimal bowel preparation measured by the endoscopist on a dichotomized Aronchik Scale. Univariate and multivariate regression modeling were used to determine independent predictors of suboptimal preparation. Nine hundred and eight patients (mean age 12.17 years [±5.14], boys 465 (51.2%), were included in the analysis. Suboptimal preparation was noted in 242 (26.7%). On univariate analysis, suboptimal preparation was more common in those of younger age (38.6%), Medicaid (32.1%), Spanish as primary language (35.7%), and failure to thri risk factors as well as highlight distinct associations from those reported in the adult literature including FTT and younger age. IBD was associated with optimal cleansing. Future research to understand the mechanisms of inferred risk or potential protection is required. There are limited data on the natural history of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in Asian American children. The aim of the present study was to describe a single-center experience of chronic HBV infection in Chinese American patients in New York City. A retrospective chart review was conducted for patients with chronic HBV infection who had pediatric visits from 2006 to 2017. Clinical and laboratory data were collected to characterize the status of HBV infection and its disease course both cross-sectionally and longitudinally. Available maternal charts were reviewed. Of the total 353 patients, 72 patients (20%) were US-born. Positive hepatitis B envelope antigen (HBeAg) was documented in 208 patients (58%). Three phases of chronic HBV infection were categorized for 329 patients immune-tolerant 112 (34%), HBeAg-positive immune-active 47 (14%), and inactive carrier 82 (25%). The remaining 88 patients (27%) did not fit into a particular category with 26 of 88 patients meeting the criteria for inactive carrier except for mildly elevated alanine aminotransferase. Age and liver enzyme levels were significantly different between HBeAg-positive and HBeAg-negative groups (P < 0.05). Among 179 patients followed for ≥5 years, the spontaneous seroconversion rate was 38%. In eight patients with linked maternal data, all children completed the HBV vaccine series and seven of eight received hepatitis B immunoglobulin. All mothers were HBeAg-positive with high HBV DNA and had no anti-viral therapy during pregnancy. Our findings for the first time indicated that α7-nAChRs activation exhibited a neuroprotective effect on αSyn pathology and aggregation by promoting the clearance of αSyn.Cachexia is a complex wasting syndrome that overwhelmingly affects the majority of late-stage cancer patients. Additionally, there are currently no efficacious therapeutic agents to treat the muscle atrophy induced by the cancer. While several preclinical studies have investigated the molecular signals orchestrating cachexia, very little information exists pertaining to ovarian cancer and the associated cachexia. Work from our lab has recently demonstrated that the steroidal lactone Withaferin A (WFA) is capable of attenuating the atrophying effects of ovarian cancer in a preclinical mouse model. However, it remained to be determined whether WFA's effect was in response to its anti-tumorigenic properties, or if it was capable of targeting skeletal muscle directly. The purpose of this study was to uncover whether WFA was capable of regulating muscle mass under tumor-free and tumor-bearing conditions. Treatment with WFA led to an improvement in functional muscle strength and mass under tumor-bearing and naïve conditions. WFA and ovarian cancer were observed to act antagonistically upon critical skeletal muscle regulatory systems, notably myogenic progenitors and proteolytic degradation pathways. Our results demonstrated for the first time that, while WFA has anti-tumorigenic properties, it also exerts hypertrophying effects on skeletal muscle mass, suggesting that it could be an anti-cachectic agent in the settings of ovarian cancer.Tubular Aggregate Myopathy (TAM) is a hereditary ultra-rare muscle disorder characterized by muscle weakness and cramps or myasthenic features. It has been established that post-natal myogenesis critically relies on Ca2+ influx through SOCE. Furthermore, the combination therapy remarkably upregulated the expression levels of 5'-AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and SIRT1. However, abnormal RyR2 activity has been linked to the development of arrhythmias, including increased spontaneous Ca2+ release in human atrial fibrillation (AF). Clustering properties of RyR2 have been suggested to alter the activity of the channel, with remodeling of RyR2 clusters identified in pre-clinical models of AF and heart failure. Whether such remodeling occurs in human cardiac disease remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the nanoscale organization of RyR2 clusters in AF patients - the first known study to examine this potential remodeling in diseased human cardiomyocytes. Right atrial appendage from cardiac surgery patients with paroxysmal or persistent AF, or without AF (non-AF) were examined using super-resolution (dSTORM) imaging. Significant atrial dilation and cardiomyocyte hypertrophy was observed in persistent AF patients compared to non-AF, with these two parameters significantly correlated. Interestingly, the clustering properties of RyR2 were remarkably unaltered in the AF patients. No significant differences were identified in cluster size (mean ∼18 RyR2 channels), density or channel packing within clusters between patient groups. The spatial organization of clusters throughout the cardiomyocyte was also unchanged across the groups. RyR2 clustering properties did not significantly correlate with patient characteristics. In this first study to examine nanoscale RyR2 organization in human cardiac disease, these findings indicate that RyR2 cluster remodeling is not an underlying mechanism contributing to altered channel function and subsequent arrhythmogenesis in human AF.

The health care sector can benefit considerably from developments in digital technology. Consequently, eHealth applications are rapidly increasing in number and sophistication. For successful development and implementation of eHealth, it is paramount to guarantee the privacy and safety of patients and their collected data. At the same time, anonymized data that are collected through eHealth could be used in the development of innovative and personalized diagnostic, prognostic, and treatment tools. To address the needs of researchers, health care providers, and eHealth developers for more information and practical tools to handle privacy and legal matters in eHealth, the Dutch national Digital Society Research Programme organized the "Mind Your Data Privacy and Legal Matters in eHealth" conference. In this paper, we share the key take home messages from the conference based on the following five tradeoffs (1) privacy versus independence, (2) informed consent versus convenience, (3) clinical research versus clinical routine data, (4) responsibility and standardization, and (5) privacy versus solidarity.
Digital monitoring of treatment-related symptoms and self-reported patient outcomes is important for the quality of care among cancer patients. As mobile devices are ubiquitous nowadays, the collection of electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs) is gaining momentum. So far, data are lacking on the modalities that contribute to the quantity and quality of ePROs.
The objective of our study was to compare the utilization of two versions of a subsequently employed mobile app for electronic monitoring of PROs and to test our hypothesis that a shared review of symptoms in patient-physician collaboration has an impact on the number of data entries.
The Consilium Care app engages cancer patients to standardize reporting of well-being and treatment-related symptoms in outpatient settings. For descriptive comparison of the utilization of two slightly different app versions, data were obtained from an early breast cancer trial (version 1 of the app, n=86) and an ongoing study including patients with advanced doctor symptom reviews were performed in version 2 of the app. Both the amount of data entries per patient and day for well-being (version 1 vs version 2 0.3 vs 1.0; P<.001) and symptoms (version 1 vs version 2 1.3 vs 1.9; P=.04) appeared significantly increased in version 2 of the app. Overall satisfaction with both app versions was high, although version 2 of the app was perceived to be more helpful in general.
Version 2 of the app showed **** better results than version 1 of the app. A request for collaborative patient-doctor symptom review is likely to affect the number of digital symptom data entries. This app shows high potential to improve the patient-doctor experience.

The Smart Angel home medical device allows ambulatory surgery patients to monitor their own health by taking their blood pressure and oxygen levels and answering a health questionnaire from home. Currently, this device is a prototype in the design phase, and no usability evaluation has been performed. This preventive device must be usable by patients with different profiles; however, it is important to select patients carefully to ensure their safety when using the device. As such, it would be interesting to know how to select or exclude patients. However, the links between user characteristics and the usability of this home medical device remain unclear.

Appendicitis is a common surgical problem among the young adult population, who are likely to use the internet to obtain medical information. This information may determine the health-seeking behavior of an individual and may delay medical attention. Little is known regarding the quality of patient information on appendicitis on the internet, as this has not been previously studied.
The aim of our study was to identify the quality of information regarding appendicitis on websites intended for the public.
We conducted a systematic review of information on appendicitis available online using the following 4 search terms in google "appendicitis," "appendix," "appendectomy," and "appendicectomy". The top 100 websites of each search term were assessed using the validated Ensuring Quality Information for Patients (EQIP) tool (score 0-36).
A total of 119 websites met the eligibility criteria for evaluation. The overall median EQIP score for all websites was 20 (IQR 18-22). Analysis of the network topology uncovers that multistability emerges from two teams of players that mutually inhibit each other, but members of a team activate one another, forming a 'toggle switch' between the two teams. Deciphering these topological signatures in cancer-related regulatory networks can unravel their 'latent' design principles and offer a rational approach to characterize phenotypic heterogeneity in a tumor.

The objective of our study was to compare the utilization of two versions of a subsequently employed mobile app for electronic monitoring of PROs and to test our hypothesis that a shared review of symptoms in patient-physician collaboration has an impact on the number of data entries. The Consilium Care app engages cancer patients to standardize reporting of well-being and treatment-related symptoms in outpatient settings. For descriptive comparison of the utilization of two slightly different app versions, data were obtained from an early breast cancer trial (version 1 of the app, n=86) and an ongoing study including patients with advanced doctor symptom reviews were performed in version 2 of the app. Both the amount of data entries per patient and day for well-being (version 1 vs version 2 0.3 vs 1.0; P<.001) and symptoms (version 1 vs version 2 1.3 vs 1.9; P=.04) appeared significantly increased in version 2 of the app. Overall satisfaction with both app versions was high, although version 2 of the app was perceived to be more helpful in general. Version 2 of the app showed much better results than version 1 of the app. A request for collaborative patient-doctor symptom review is likely to affect the number of digital symptom data entries. This app shows high potential to improve the patient-doctor experience. The Smart Angel home medical device allows ambulatory surgery patients to monitor their own health by taking their blood pressure and oxygen levels and answering a health questionnaire from home. Currently, this device is a prototype in the design phase, and no usability evaluation has been performed. This preventive device must be usable by patients with different profiles; however, it is important to select patients carefully to ensure their safety when using the device. As such, it would be interesting to know how to select or exclude patients. However, the links between user characteristics and the usability of this home medical device remain unclear. This study aims to better understand the links between certain characteristics of potential patients (ie, age, education, technophilia, and health literacy) and the usability (ie, effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction) of Smart Angel, as defined by the ISO 9241-11. Appendicitis is a common surgical problem among the young adult population, who are likely to use the internet to obtain medical information. This information may determine the health-seeking behavior of an individual and may delay medical attention. Little is known regarding the quality of patient information on appendicitis on the internet, as this has not been previously studied. The aim of our study was to identify the quality of information regarding appendicitis on websites intended for the public. We conducted a systematic review of information on appendicitis available online using the following 4 search terms in google "appendicitis," "appendix," "appendectomy," and "appendicectomy". The top 100 websites of each search term were assessed using the validated Ensuring Quality Information for Patients (EQIP) tool (score 0-36). A total of 119 websites met the eligibility criteria for evaluation. The overall median EQIP score for all websites was 20 (IQR 18-22).
