  • The Covid-19 pandemic is still raging [...].Traditionally, classifiers are trained to predict patterns within a feature space. The image classification system presented here trains classifiers to predict patterns within a vector space by combining the dissimilarity spaces generated by a large set of Siamese Neural Networks (SNNs). A set of centroids from the patterns in the training data sets is calculated with supervised k-means clustering. The centroids are used to generate the dissimilarity space via the Siamese networks. The vector space descriptors are extracted by projecting patterns onto the similarity spaces, and SVMs classify an image by its dissimilarity vector. The versatility of the proposed approach in image classification is demonstrated by evaluating the system on different types of images across two domains two medical data sets and two animal audio data sets with vocalizations represented as images (spectrograms). Results show that the proposed system's performance competes competitively against the best-performing methods in the literature, obtaining state-of-the-art performance on one of the medical data sets, and does so without ad-hoc optimization of the clustering methods on the tested data sets.

Recent advances in stem cell research have outlined methods for directing in vitro or in vivo growth, viability, and proliferation, as well as differentiation of DPSC-although **** remains to be discovered. Based upon this information, the primary objective of this study was to understand the functional biomaterials needed to more effectively direct DPSC viability, growth, and proliferation.

    Using an approved protocol, previously collected and isolated samples of DPSC from an existing repository were used. Previously established stem cell biomarkers (Sox-2, Oct-4, NANOG) from each isolate were correlated with their proliferation rates or doubling times to categorize them into rapid, intermediate, or slow-dividing multipotent DPSC. Growth factors and other functional dental biomaterials were subsequently tested to evaogy and bioengineering applications.
    These data strongly suggest that some, but not all, DPSC isolates are capable of a robust and significant in vitro response to differentiation stimuli, although this response is not universal. Although some biomarkers and phenotypes that distinguish and characterize these DPSC isolates may facilitate the ability to predict growth, viability, and differentiation potential, more research is needed to determine the other intrinsic and extrinsic factors that may contribute to and modulate these DPSC responses to these functional biomaterials for biotechnology and bioengineering applications.The Stroop effect describes interference in cognitive processing due to competing cognitive demands. Then, the support reactions at the base of the rod are evaluated for contact localization. Presenting a method of theoretically generating these support reactions, we provide an important basis for future parameter studies. During scanning, lateral slip of the rod is not actively prevented, in contrast to literature.

  • Therefore, this questionnaire may enable researchers to improve this emerging field of research significantly.The accurate classification of microbes is critical in today's context for monitoring the ecological balance of a habitat. Hence, in this research work, a novel method to automate the process of identifying microorganisms has been implemented. To extract the bodies of microorganisms accurately, a generalized segmentation mechanism which consists of a combination of convolution filter (Kirsch) and a variance-based pixel clustering algorithm (Otsu) is proposed. With exhaustive corroboration, a set of twenty-five features were identified to map the characteristics and morphology for all kinds of microbes. Multiple techniques for feature selection were tested and it was found that mutual information (MI)-based models gave the best performance. Exhaustive hyperparameter tuning of multilayer layer perceptron (MLP), k-nearest neighbors (KNN), quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA), logistic regression (LR), and support vector machine (SVM) was done. It was found that SVM radial required further improvisation to attain a maximum possible level of accuracy. Comparative analysis between SVM and improvised SVM (ISVM) through a 10-fold cross validation method ultimately showed that ISVM resulted in a 2% higher performance in terms of accuracy (98.2%), precision (98.2%), recall (98.1%), and F1 score (98.1%).It is now well established that polyphenols are a class of natural substance that offers numerous health benefits; they are present in all plants in very different quantities and types. On the other hand, their bioavailability, and efficacy is are not always well proven. Therefore, this work aims to discuss some types of polyphenols belonging to Mediterranean foods. We chose six polyphenols-(1) Naringenin, (2) Apigenin, (3) Kaempferol, (4) Hesperidin, (5) Ellagic Acid and (6) Oleuropein-present in Mediterranean foods, describing dietary source and their chemistry, as well as their pharmacokinetic profile and their use as nutraceuticals/supplements, in addition to the relevant element of their capability in modulating microRNAs expression profile.This review aimed to investigate the occurrence of mycotoxins, their toxic effects, and the detoxifying agents discussed in scientific publications that are related to pig production. Mycotoxins that are of major interest are aflatoxins and Fusarium toxins, such as deoxynivalenol and fumonisins, because of their elevated frequency at a global scale and high occurrence in corn, which is the main feedstuff in pig diets. The toxic effects of aflatoxins, deoxynivalenol, and fumonisins include immune modulation, disruption of intestinal barrier function, and cytotoxicity leading to cell death, which all result in impaired pig performance. Sample cha-racterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as well as mechanical properties showed the presence of the nanoparticles and their effect in PEEK matrices, preserving their relevant properties for dental applications. Al-though, the incorporation of ZnO nanoparticles did not improve the mechanical properties and a slight decrease in the thermal stability of the materials was observed. Hemocompatibility and osteoblasts-like cell viability tests showed improved biological performances when ZnO was present, demonstrating high potential for dental implant applications.Gastroschisis and omphalocele reflect the two most common abdominal wall defects in newborns. First postnatal care consists of defect coverage, avoidance of fluid and heat loss, fluid administration and gastric decompression. Definitive treatment is achieved by defect reduction and abdominal wall closure. Different techniques and timings are used depending on type and size of defect, the abdominal domain and comorbidities of the child. In this paper, we describe a simple concentration method based on polyethylene glycol (PEG) precipitation, followed by RNA extraction and a one-step quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) for viral detection in wastewater. PEG-based concentration of viruses is a simple procedure which is not limited by the availability of expensive equipment and has reduced risk of disruption to consumable supply chains. The concentration and RNA extraction steps enable 900-1500× concentration of wastewater samples and sufficiently eliminates the majority of organic matter, which could inhibit the subsequent qRT-PCR assay. Due to the high variation in the physico-chemical properties of wastewater samples, we recommend the use of process control viruses to determine the efficiency of each step. This procedure enables the concentration and the extraction the DNA/RNA of different viruses and hence can be used for the surveillance of different viral targets for the comprehensive assessment of viral diseases in a community.

This clinical report describes the use of a prototyped guide created with virtual planning for fiber-reinforced composite resin post removal.     Custom mini-implants are needed for edentulous patients with extensive mandibular deficiencies where endosteal placement is not possible. However, the best design for these mini-implants is unclear.

    The purpose of this invitro study was to develop 2 dental mini-implant designs to support mandibular overdentures and evaluate the effect of their geometries on primary stability and stress distribution.

    Two mini-implant designs were developed with changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of threads and chamfers. The experimental mini-implants were made of Grade V titanium alloy (Ti-6Al-4V), (Ø2.0×10 mm) and submitted to a nanoscale surface treatment. Thirty mini-implants (n=10) were placed into fresh ***** bones experimental-threaded, experimental-helical, and a commercially available product model (Intra-Lock System) as the control. The biomechanical evaluations of the experimental mini-implants were compared with those of the control in terms of primary stability, through insertion torque (IT), and witl, the experimental-threaded model presented greater primary stability, and all mini-implants showed less stress in the cervical third.To reduce the risk of implant and prosthetic complications, implant-supported prostheses should be passive. A verification device is used to verify the abutment analog position on the definitive cast, and hence its accuracy. This article describes the fabrication of a Type IV stone implant verification device for verifying the accuracy of the definitive cast.An abnormally invasive placenta is an increasing and potentially life-threatening pregnancy complication. The case presented herein is a heterotopic dichorial pregnancy with implantation of 1 placenta within the isthmocervical area, which caused vaginal bleeding during the 20th week of pregnancy, requiring a blood transfusion. To stop the bleeding, a bilateral embolization of the cervical branches of the uterine arteries was performed. The embolization was well tolerated and resulted in the abrupt and lasting cessation of bleeding for more than 10 weeks, resulting in the live birth of 1 child.
    The ability to accurately predict early progression of dengue to severe disease is crucial for patient triage and clinical management. Previous systematic reviews and meta-analyses have found significant heterogeneity in predictors of severe disease due to large variation in these factors during the time course of the illness. We aimed to identify factors associated with progression to severe dengue disease that are detectable specifically in the febrile phase.

    We did a systematic review and meta-analysis to identify predictors identifiable during the febrile phase associated with progression to severe disease defined according to WHO criteria. Eight medical databases were searched for studies published from Jan 1, 1997, to Jan 31, 2020. Original clinical studies in English assessing the association of factors detected during the febrile phase with progression to severe dengue were selected and assessed by three reviewers, with discrepancies resolved by consensus. Meta-analyses were done using random-effection of Rural Doctors, and Royal Thai Government.
    People who survive tuberculosis face clinical and societal consequences after recovery, including increased risks of recurrent tuberculosis, premature death, reduced lung function, and ongoing stigma. To describe the size of this issue, we aimed to estimate the number of individuals who developed first-episode tuberculosis between 1980 and 2019, the number who survived to 2020, and the number who have been treated within the past 5 years or 2 years.

  • Research examining institutionalized hierarchy tends to focus on chiefdoms and states, while its emergence among small-scale societies remains poorly understood. Here, we test multiple hypotheses for institutionalized hierarchy, using environmental and social data on 89 hunter-gatherer societies along the Pacific coast of North America. We utilize statistical models capable of identifying the main correlates of sustained political and economic inequality, while controlling for historical and spatial dependence. Our results indicate that the most important predictors relate to spatiotemporal distribution of resources. Specifically, higher reliance on and ownership of clumped aquatic (primarily salmon) versus wild plant resources is associated with greater political-economic inequality, measuring the latter as a composite of internal social ranking, unequal access to food resources, and presence of slavery. Variables indexing population pressure, scalar stress, and intergroup conflict exhibit little or no correlation with variation in inequality. These results are consistent with models positing that hierarchy will emerge when individuals or coalitions (e.g., kin groups) control access to economically defensible, highly clumped resource patches, and use this control to extract benefits from subordinates, such as productive labor and political allegiance in a patron-client system. This evolutionary ecological explanation might illuminate how and why institutionalized hierarchy emerges among many small-scale societies.Honeybee swarms are a landmark example of collective behavior. Up-regulation of the protein paralogue GABPB2, which is normally expressed at very low levels, can rescue this dependence. More importantly, when combined with frontline temozolomide (TMZ) chemotherapy, inducible GABPB1L knockdown and the associated TERT reduction led to an impaired DNA damage response that resulted in profoundly reduced growth of intracranial GBM tumors. Four antibiotics to treat pneumococcal diseases (penicillin, amoxicillin, third-generation cephalosporins, and meropenem) were modeled with antibiotic utilization, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics factored into predicting AMR accumulation. Three PCV coverage scenarios were simulated over 5 y 1) status quo with no change in coverage, 2) scaled coverage increase to 99% in 5 y, and 3) accelerated coverage increase to 85% over 2 y followed by 3 y to reach 99% coverage.

We observed transport of both nucleus-encoded RBCS-Venus fusion protein and chloroplast-encoded Rubisco large subunit (rbcL) from the chloroplast to the vacuoles in response to chloroplast proteotoxic stress induced by clpP1 inhibition. This process was retarded by the addition of autophagy inhibitors. Biochemical detection of lytic cleavage of RBCS-Venus supported the notion that Rubisco is degraded in the vacuoles via autophagy. Electron microscopy revealed vacuolar accumulation of autophagic vesicles and exposed their ultrastructure during repression of clpP1 expression. Treatment with an autophagy activator also induced chloroplast autophagy. These results indicate that autophagy contributes to chloroplast protein degradation in Chlamydomonas cells.

We propose a novel deep learning architecture for propensity score matching and counterfactual prediction-the deep propensity network using a sparse autoencoder (DPN-SA)-to tackle the problems of high dimensionality, nonlinear/nonparallel treatment assignment, and residual confounding when estimating treatment effects.

    This study identifies trajectories of parent depressive symptoms after having a child born with genital atypia due to a disorder/difference of sex development (DSD) or congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) and across the first year postgenitoplasty (for parents who opted for surgery) or postbaseline (for parents who elected against surgery for their child). Hypotheses for four trajectory classes were guided by parent distress patterns previously identified among other medical conditions.

    Participants included 70 mothers and 50 fathers of 71 children diagnosed with a DSD or CAH with reported moderate to high genital atypia. Parents were recruited from 11 US DSD specialty clinics within 2 years of the child's birth and prior to genitoplasty. A growth mixture model (GMM) was conducted to identify classes of parent depressive symptoms over time.

    The best fitting model was a five-class linear GMM with freely estimated intercept variance. The classes identified were termed "Resilient," "Recovery," "Chronic," "Escalating," and "Elevated Partial Recovery." Four classes have previously been identified for other pediatric illnesses; however, a fifth class was also identified. The majority of parents were classified in the "Resilient" class (67.6%).

    This study provides new knowledge about the trajectories of depressive symptoms for parents of children with DSD. Future studies are needed to identify developmental, medical, or familial predictors of these trajectories.

As a result, contemporary imaging techniques, particularly electron microscopy (EM) and light sheet microscopy, can frequently generate datasets attaining sizes of several terabytes (TB). As a consequence, even seemingly simple data operations such as cropping, chromatic- and drift-corrections and even visualisation, poses challenges when applied to thousands of time points or tiles. We labeled the chloroplast protein Rubisco small subunit (RBCS) with the yellow fluorescent protein Venus in a Chlamydomonas strain in which expression of the chloroplast gene clpP1, encoding a major catalytic subunit of the chloroplast Clp protease, can be conditionally repressed to selectively perturb chloroplast protein homeostasis. We observed transport of both nucleus-encoded RBCS-Venus fusion protein and chloroplast-encoded Rubisco large subunit (rbcL) from the chloroplast to the vacuoles in response to chloroplast proteotoxic stress induced by clpP1 inhibition. This process was retarded by the addition of autophagy inhibitors. Biochemical detection of lytic cleavage of RBCS-Venus supported the notion that Rubisco is degraded in the vacuoles via autophagy. Electron microscopy revealed vacuolar accumulation of autophagic vesicles and exposed their ultrastructure during repression of clpP1 expression. Treatment with an autophagy activator also induced chloroplast autophagy. These results indicate that autophagy contributes to chloroplast protein degradation in Chlamydomonas cells. Drawing causal estimates from observational data is problematic, because datasets often contain underlying bias (eg, discrimination in treatment assignment). To examine causal effects, it is important to evaluate what-if scenarios-the so-called "counterfactuals." We propose a novel deep learning architecture for propensity score matching and counterfactual prediction-the deep propensity network using a sparse autoencoder (DPN-SA)-to tackle the problems of high dimensionality, nonlinear/nonparallel treatment assignment, and residual confounding when estimating treatment effects. We used 2 randomized prospective datasets, a semisynthetic one with nonlinear/nonparallel treatment selection bias and simulated counterfactual outcomes from the Infant Health and Development Program and a real-world dataset from the LaLonde's employment training program. We compared different configurations of the DPN-SA against logistic regression and LASSO as well as deep counterfactual networks with propensity dropout (DCN-PD).ample sizes, and complex heterogeneity in treatment assignments. This study identifies trajectories of parent depressive symptoms after having a child born with genital atypia due to a disorder/difference of sex development (DSD) or congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) and across the first year postgenitoplasty (for parents who opted for surgery) or postbaseline (for parents who elected against surgery for their child). Hypotheses for four trajectory classes were guided by parent distress patterns previously identified among other medical conditions. Participants included 70 mothers and 50 fathers of 71 children diagnosed with a DSD or CAH with reported moderate to high genital atypia. Parents were recruited from 11 US DSD specialty clinics within 2 years of the child's birth and prior to genitoplasty. A growth mixture model (GMM) was conducted to identify classes of parent depressive symptoms over time. The best fitting model was a five-class linear GMM with freely estimated intercept variance. The classes identified were termed "Resilient," "Recovery," "Chronic," "Escalating," and "Elevated Partial Recovery." Four classes have previously been identified for other pediatric illnesses; however, a fifth class was also identified. The majority of parents were classified in the "Resilient" class (67.6%). This study provides new knowledge about the trajectories of depressive symptoms for parents of children with DSD. Two convex tools with different edge radii were used to weld four ultrathin sheets of AA5754-H111 alloy each with 0.3 mm thickness. To understand the influence of tool geometries and process parameters, coefficient of friction (CoF), microstructure and mechanical properties obtained with the Vickers microhardness test and the small punch test were analysed. A scanning acoustic microscope was used to assess weld quality. It was found that the increase of tool radius from 15 to 22.5 mm reduced the dwell time by a factor of three. Samples welded with a specific tool were seen to have no delamination and improved mechanical properties due to longer stirring time. The rotational speed was found to be the most influential parameter in governing the weld shape, CoF, microstructure, microhardness and weld efficiency. Low rotational speeds caused a 14.4% and 12.8% improvement in joint efficiency compared to high rotational speeds for both tools used in this investigation.The COVID-19 pandemic has the potential to adversely affect the mental health of healthcare workers (HCWs). A better understanding and separation of genetic subtypes has immediate implications in clinical trial design by unraveling the different flavors of clinical presentation and development. Personalized medicine is a nascent area of research and represents a paramount challenge in the treatment and cure of PD. This manuscript summarizes the current state of precision medicine in the PD field and discusses how genetics has become the engine to gain insights into disease during our constant effort to develop potential etiological based interventions.The increasingly witnessed integration of information technology with operational technology leads to the formation of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) that intertwine physical and cyber components and connect to each other to form systems-of-systems. This interconnection enables the offering of functionality beyond the combined offering of each individual component, but at the same time increases the cyber risk of the overall system, as such risk propagates between and aggregates at component systems. The complexity of the resulting systems-of-systems in many cases leads to difficulty in analyzing cyber risk. Additionally, the selection of cybersecurity controls that will effectively and efficiently treat the cyber risk is commonly performed manually, or at best with limited automated decision support. In this work, we propose a method for analyzing risk propagation and aggregation in complex CPSs utilizing the results of risk assessments of their individual constituents. Additionally, we propose a method employing evolutionary programming for automating the selection of an optimal set of cybersecurity controls out of a list of available controls, that will minimize the residual risk and the cost associated with the implementation of these measures. We illustrate the workings of the proposed methods by applying them to the navigational systems of two variants of the Cyber-Enabled Ship (C-ES), namely the autonomous ship and the remotely controlled ship. The results are sets of cybersecurity controls applied to those components of the overall system that have been identified in previous studies as the most vulnerable ones; such controls minimize the residual risk, while also minimizing the cost of implementation.Children with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) often present with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) or motor coordination problems that further impact their daily functioning. However, little is known about the prevalence of co-occurring DCD and ADHD in the Spanish context, and research about the impact of ADHD on performance and participation in motor-based activities of daily living (ADL) is scarce. The aims of this study were to explore the prevalence of co-occurring DCD in children with ADHD, and to examine differences in performance and participation in motor-based ADL between children with ADHD and typically developing children. We conducted a case-control study including 20 children with ADHD and 40 typically developing controls randomly matched for exact age and sex (males = 80%; mean age = 8, 9 (2, 3) years). Presence of probable DCD (p-DCD) was confirmed with the Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire (DCDQ). The DCDDaily-Q was administered to assess performance and participation in ADL.

This study was conducted with the aim of exploring the role and underlying mechanisms of **** in colorectal cancer (CRC). Here, we found that **** expression was decreased in CRC samples. According to the analysis on our TMA data, lower expression of **** is correlated with a higher incidence of distant metastasis and lymph node invasion, bigger tumor size, low survival rate of patients, and advanced T stages. Functionally, in vivo/vitro experiments showed that **** knockdown induced CRC cell proliferation and growth, while **** overexpression inhibited the proliferation and growth of CRC. Further study demonstrated that **** knockdown resulted in aerobic glycolysis in CRC cells. Similarly, **** overexpression in CRC cells also caused inhibited aerobic glycolysis. Further study found that **** knockdown in CRC cell lines activated the mTOR signaling pathway, and the addition of rapamycin reversed the promoting effect of **** knockdown on CRC proliferation and glycolysis. Likewise, the addition of MHY1485 also reversed the **** overexpression's role in hindering aerobic glycolysis in CRC cells. In a healthy kidney, neutrophils exhibit two subpopulations one is more associated with renal autoimmunity, probably acting as therapeutic target; the other is suggested to resist infectious microorganisms. It is noteworthy that six subpopulations were identified in ccRCC biopsy, and two were more relevant to autoimmunity, while the other four are more relevant to the tumor pathology. Besides, ccRCC neutrophil could resist anticancer immune therapies of ipilimumab and pembrolizumab for their low/no expressions of CTLA-4, PD-1, and PD-L1.     A total of 2474 significantly dysregulated lncRNAs and 959 differentially expressed mRNAs were identified in the retina of DR. Based upon Signalnet analysis, Bcl2, Gabarapl2, Atg4c, and Atg16L1 participated the process of cell death in DR. Moreover, real-time PCR revealed significant upregulation of Atg16L1.

    Scientometric research was conducted by analyzing bibliographic records retrieved from the Web of Science (WOS) Sci-Expanded Database dated between 1900 and 2020. Countries, institutions, authors, keyword occurrence analysis, and cooperation network analysis were performed using the CiteSpace and VOSviewer software.

    A total of 348 valid records were included in the final dataset, and the number of publications and the frequency of citations have grown rapidly over the last ten years. The USA (
    = 175), China (
    = 42), and Germany (
    = 37) were the three largest contributors to the global publications on S1P and aging, while the Medical University of South Carolina (
    = 15), University of California, San Francisco (
    = 13), and University of Toronto (

    Infections with Gram-positive bacteria, including acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSIs), are common in children. We describe a single-dose pharmacokinetics and safety study of tedizolid phosphate, a new oxazolidinone under investigation for the treatment of ABSSSIs in children, in hospitalized participants 2 to <12 years of age.

There are limited data regarding long-term outcomes, mostly reported from Australia and European populations. The objective of this study was to assess frequency of neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI) following PeV-A3 infection in our US cohort.

  • The objective of the present study was to identify the impact of systemic sclerosis (SSc) upon oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of affected individuals resident in the UK.

    A total of 100 patients and their partners or carers were invited to complete questionnaires regarding the impact of SSc on quality of life and psychological well-being using valid and reliable patient-reported outcome measures (OHIP-14, MHISS, OIDP, MDAS and HADS). A total of 50 patients with SSc and 18 partners or carers who acted as controls returned the completed questionnaires. Statistical analyses were performed for comparisons of different variables.

    All the mean scores of OHIP-14 (SSc [16.5±12.4] Vs controls [6.06±7.6, p = 0.001]) and MHISS components were significantly higher in patients than those of control group (SSc [21.26±12] Vs controls [4.8±7.3, p<0.0001]). Majority of OIDP mean scores were significantly worse in patients compared with controls [SSc (10±8.7) Vs controls (1.72±3.4, p<0.0001)]. The mean of total MDAS [SSc (11.7±5.3) Vs controls (9.5±4.4)] and HADS scores were higher in patients compared to controls (SSc depression [4.8±3.3] and anxiety [6±4.6] Vs controls [3.7±3.1] [4.7±3.9]).

    Although the present study is limited by the low response rate and its cross-sectional design, present results highlighted that systemic sclerosis has a negative impact on OHRQoL of the affected individuals; hence, the evaluation of associated psychological impact including anxiety and depression symptoms is needed to better understand, monitor and evaluate the disease comorbidity in patients with SSc.

This single-blinded, parallel-design, randomized controlled trial was conducted in a classroom of a hospital in northern Taiwan. Sixty eligible female nurses were randomly assigned to either the aerobic exercise (n = 30) or usual activity status (n = 30) group. A moderate-intensity aerobic exercise program was administered over 5 days (60 min per day) a week for 8 weeks after the nurses' day shifts. Objective sleep outcomes including total sleep time (TST), sleep onset latency (SOL), wake after sleep onset (WASO), and sleep efficiency (SE) were retrieved using an actigraph device. A generalized estimating equation model was used for data analysis. The aerobic exercise group exhibited improvements in TST and SE at 4 and 8 weeks compared with the baseline evaluation (TST B = 70.49 and 55.96; SE B = 5.21 and 3.98). Between-group differences were observed in SOL and WASO at 4 weeks but not 8 weeks compared with the baseline evaluation (SOL B = -7.18; WASO B = -11.38). Positive lasting effects for TST were observed only until the 4-week follow-up.     Obstetricians and gynaecologists (O&Gs) are at a risk of work-related musculoskeletal injuries (WRMI) on a daily basis.

    To describe the prevalence of WRMI among O&Gs in Australia and New Zealand, explore risk factors for such injuries, and evaluate their impact.

    An online survey of Fellows of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists was conducted in July 2016. It comprised questions on personal attributes, type of work, site and cause of WRMI, if any and treatment required.

    We received responses from 765 O&Gs giving a response rate of 38.3% (765/1997). Four hundred and ten specialists (53.6%) reported suffering a WRMI at some point, including 252 (32.9%) who reported multiple injuries. In multivariable analysis, females had increased risk of WRMI (odds ratio (OR) 2.12; 95% CI 1.54-2.91) and among generalists and subspecialists, gynaecological oncologists had highest risk for WRMI (OR 3.13; 95% CI 1.21-8.14). Commonest sites of injury were **** (218/633, 34.4%) and shoulder (131/633, 20.7%). Laparoscopic surgery (117/633, 18.5%) was the commonest cause of injury. Treatment was required for 88.6% of injuries (561/633) including 8.4% (53/633) of cases which required surgery. Ongoing symptoms post-injury were reported for 52.1% of injuries (330/633) and in 25.8% (163/633) of instances the practitioner needed to modify their scope of work.

    This survey among a large cohort of O&Gs shows a high prevalence of WRMI with a profound negative impact on the practitioner and profession. There is a pressing need to advocate for improved ergonomics in their workplaces.

An online survey of Fellows of Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists was conducted in July 2016. It comprised questions on personal attributes, type of work, site and cause of WRMI, if any and treatment required. We received responses from 765 O&Gs giving a response rate of 38.3% (765/1997). Four hundred and ten specialists (53.6%) reported suffering a WRMI at some point, including 252 (32.9%) who reported multiple injuries. In multivariable analysis, females had increased risk of WRMI (odds ratio (OR) 2.12; 95% CI 1.54-2.91) and among generalists and subspecialists, gynaecological oncologists had highest risk for WRMI (OR 3.13; 95% CI 1.21-8.14). Commonest sites of injury were back (218/633, 34.4%) and shoulder (131/633, 20.7%). Laparoscopic surgery (117/633, 18.5%) was the commonest cause of injury. Treatment was required for 88.6% of injuries (561/633) including 8.4% (53/633) of cases which required surgery. Ongoing symptoms post-injury were reported for 52.1% of injuries (330/633) and in 25.8% (163/633) of instances the practitioner needed to modify their scope of work. This survey among a large cohort of O&Gs shows a high prevalence of WRMI with a profound negative impact on the practitioner and profession. There is a pressing need to advocate for improved ergonomics in their workplaces.     In this study, the synthesis and characterization of platinum(IV) complexes with bioactive hydrazide ligands are discussed.

    Elemental analysis, conductivity measurements, and spectroscopic studies were used to elucidate the structure of complexes.

    Our study suggests that hydrazide ligands coordinate with Pt(IV) in a bidentate fashion. The platinum(IV) complexes have octahedral geometry with a metal to ligand ratio of 12. Hydrazide ligands were coordinated with central metal platinum(IV) by oxygen of carbonyl group and nitrogen of primary amine. Synthesized complexes exhibited variable DPPH radical scavenging and lipoxygenase inhibition activity. Furthermore, it is also found that Pt(IV)-hydrazide complexes are more potent superoxide and nitric oxide radical scavengers than their uncoordinated hydrazide ligands, while in the case of lipoxygenase enzyme inhibition, some of the free hydrazide ligands are more active than their respective Pt(IV) complexes. In silico docking technique explores molecular interactions of synthesized ligands in the active site of the lipoxygenase enzyme. Predicted docking energies are in good agreement with experimental data suggesting that in silico studies might be useful for the discovery of therapeutic candidates.

Among the four main clinical forms of the disease, visceral leishmaniasis is the most severe, fatal in 95% of cases. The undesired side-effects from first-line chemotherapy and the reported drug resistance search for effective drugs that can replace or supplement those currently used in an urgent need. Aminoguanidine hydrazones (AGH's) have been explored for exhibiting a diverse spectrum of biological activities, in particular the antileishmanial activity of MGBG. The bioisosteres thiosemicarbazones (TSC's) offer a similar biological activity diversity, including antiprotozoal effects against Leishmania species and Trypanosoma cruzi.
