Key Words Pulmonary artery sling, Neonate, Hypothyroidism.Morel-Lavallée lesion is a post-traumatic degloving cyst, usually filled with blood, lymph or necrotic tissue, which mostly develops in the area around greater trochanter. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment is essential to prevent further complications, such as compression of surrounding structures. X-rays have limited use and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the modality of choice in diagnosing the lesion. We report a case of a 35-year female presenting with left thigh pain after a fall from motorcycle almost 21/2 years ago. Ultrasound and MRI confirmed the presence of Morel-Lavallée lesion involving the left pelvis and upper thigh. Given the chronicity of lesion and extensive tissue involvement, the patient underwent surgical excision of the lesion with favourable long-term outcomes. In this case report and literature review, we discuss the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, radiological findings and management options for Morel-Lavallée lesion. CT scan was performed, which revealed a pseudo-aneurysm of the internal maxillary artery; this was successfully treated by angioembolisation. Ultrasonography revealed an enlarged uterus measuring 9.0×6.5×5.0 cm with dilatation of the uterine cavity and the cervical canal. Subsequently, she underwent total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH) and bilateral salpingo-ophorectomy with a diagnosis of cervical HSIL involving the endometrium and adenomyosis. This a very rare phenomenon, as the endometrial involvement may be caused by direct extension of the cervical lesion, and occur mainly in postmenopausal women, and should be deligently searched during pathological examination. Here, we present a case of a 51-year female patient, who recovered completely from non-operative treatment for gastric fistula after splenectomy and pericardial devascularisation. The occurrence of gastric fistula may be strongly related to preoperative preparation, intra-operative procedure and postoperative management. Therefore, personalised management is important for avoiding gastric fistula. To the authors' knowledge, this technique has not been reported elsewhere. To compare the chemoradiotherapy for esophageal cancer followed by surgery study (CROSS) and continuous infusion 5-FU, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel (FLOT) protocols administered in distal esophageal and gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) tumors in terms of effectiveness and toxicity.

Patients diagnosed with distal esophageal and GEJ squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) or adenocarcinoma (ADC), older than 18 years of age, in localised or locally advanced stage were included. Metastatic stages were excluded. Kaplan-Meier was used for survival analysis, log-rank test was performed for comparisons between groups.
A total of 25 patients (44.6%) were treated with CROSS protocol (15 distal esophageal and 10 GEJ tumor), 31 patients (55.4%) with GEJ tumors were treated with the FLOT regimen. Eight of the patients who were administered the CROSS protocol before the operation demonstrated complete pathologicial resete response to the treatment. In patients with GEJ tumors and ADC histopathology, CROSS and FLOT group had similar second years survival (60% and 59.3%, respectively) (p = 0.803). The frequency of neutropenia was significantly higher in the CROSS group compared to the FLOT group (p = 0.004.) Conclusion Postoperative pathological response rate in the CROSS group was significantly higher compared to the FLOT group. CROSS and FLOT protocols contributed to survival similarly in patients with GEJ ADC, hematological side effects were more pronounced in patients receiving CRT. Our measurements show that the post-retrofit skyglow became brighter and extended higher in the sky, but upward radiance, as measured by the day-night band radiometer, decreased. These divergent results are likely explained by a substantial increase in light emitted at wavelengths shorter than 500 nm, and a relative decrease in upward light emission due to better shielded luminaires. These results also demonstrate that earlier models relating VIIRS day-night band data to skyglow will - at a minimum - require substantial revision to account for the different characteristics of solid state luminaires.According to data from the working reports of China's 244 prefecture-level city governments from 2004 to 2016, we used the instrumental variable method to identify the effects of governments' behavior of setting economic growth targets on regional green technology innovation. The results show that the setting and top-down amplification of economic growth targets have significant inhibitory effects on green technology innovation. The inhibitory effect is more prominent in cities with rapid economic growth and over fulfilment of economic growth targets. In addition, the higher the degree of over fulfilment of the economic target becomes, the more prominent the inhibiting effect is. An impact mechanism analysis reveals that economic growth target constraints affect regional green technology innovation through an industrial structure effect and foreign investment introduction effect.In the present study, a two-step bioaugmentation strategy (TSBS) was implemented by using indigenous bacterial consortium to enhance the degradation of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) from petroleum refinery sludge (PRS). A bacterial consortium was developed using four indigenous isolated strains, Dietzia sp. IRB191, Dietzia sp. IRB192, Staphylococcus sp. BSM19 and Stenotrophomonas sp. IRB19 from PRS. The optimum conditions of pH, temperature, and sludge concentration were 7, 34 °C, and 2% (w/v), respectively, for maximum TPH degradation, obtained using one variable at a time approach. Under the optimal culture conditions, the developed consortium was inoculated twice to the culturing medium, at the beginning (0th day) and again on the 10th day for implementing a novel TSBS. The maximum TPH degradation of 91.5 ± 2.28% was found with TSBS, which was 1.18 times higher than that of SSBS (77.3 ± 2.6%) in 15 days of incubation. GC-FID study also confirmed that the TPH present in the PRS was effectively degraded by the bacterial consortium with TSBS. The TPH degradation by using TSBS proceeded according to the first-order kinetics with a rate constant of 0.155 d-1. Hence, biodegradation using a TSBS can be considered an effective and eco-friendly process for safe disposal of petroleum refinery sludge.To better analyze China's carbon neutrality target, this study investigates the effect of green innovation and investment in the energy industry on China's provincial and regional data from 1995 to 2017. Using Westerlund and Edgerton's panel cointegration test, the authors found a stable long-run relationship between CO2 emissions and its determinants. We found that under major structural breaks at the local, regional, and global levels, such as the East Asian crises of 1997, the financial crises of 2007-2008, China's RMB exchange rate reform announced on August 11, 2015, and mild recession in 2001, CO2 emissions, income, green innovation, renewable energy use, and energy industry investment are cointegrated. The environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis is valid. In the long run, income, environmental innovation, investment in the energy industry, and renewable energy consumption are key contributors in explaining CO2 emissions. The empirical evidence from augmented mean group (AMG) is consistent with the estimates of CS-ARDL. Concerning practical implications, the findings suggest that there is a need to switch the Chinese economy to more sustainable sources of energy, a viable solution to abate environmental degradation. China should introduce and shift investments to green innovation.Outdoor recreation decision-making has received significant research interest over the last fifty years. In the context of campsite choice, this previous research has almost exclusively used stated preference data and aspatial methods to understand decision-making. This present research seeks to understand how recreationists reach decisions on the selection of campsites and what aspects of the recreational setting drive demand through an examination of a big dataset of revealed preference data using a spatial regression. Specifically, we examine which managerial, social, and ecological aspects of the setting influence demand for campsites in Zion National Park's (USA) Watchman Campground using reservation data from the Recreation Information Database (RIDB). Results indicate that price, access to electricity, ease of access, and proximity to the Virgin River are significantly predictive of demand. However, it has not been widely used so far for the treatment of polluted wastewaters. This scarce use in wastewater treatment can be mainly attributed to its large crystallite size, which would be due to rapid agglomeration during the synthesis process, as well as to the photo-corrosion problem affecting this material. Hence, it would be crucial to develop a photocatalytic system involving Ag3PO4 nanoparticles with enhanced properties, such as higher specific surface area and excellent photocatalytic stability. To meet this demand, a novel Ag3PO4/boron carbon nitrogen (Ag3PO4/BCN) composite photocatalyst was successfully prepared in the present study via electrostatically driven self-assembly and ion exchange processes. After characterization and assessment, it was shown that the as-prepared Ag3PO4/BCN nanocomposite photocatalyst not only contains smaller Ag3PO4 nanoparticles, but also exhibits an enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity for Rhodamine B (RhB) Methyl Orange (MO) and Tetracycline (TC) and improved stability, without decrease after 5 cycles, compared with pure Ag3PO4 nanoparticles.

Ramie root is an underutilized starch source. In this study, eight ramie varieties were investigated for starch properties. Starch content ranged from 18.6% to 50.1% in dry root. Starches from different varieties showed similar morphology including ellipsoidal, spherical and truncated granules with size D[4,3] from 10.1 to 14.1 μm. Starch had amylose content from 20.8% to 28.5%. All ramie varieties had B-type starches with relative crystallinity from 24.8% to 27.1%, ordered degree from 0.724 to 0.897 and lamellar thickness from 9.1 to 9.6 nm. Starches had gelatinization peak temperature from 70.5 to 73.8 °C and enthalpy from 14.9 to 15.8 J/g. Starches had swelling power and water solubility from 27.9 to 31.9 g/g and from 11.7% to 15.5%, respectively, at 95 °C, and exhibited different pasting properties with breakdown viscosity from 36 to 377 mPa s and setback viscosities from 1295 to 1863 mPa s. Starch pastes exhibited pseudoplastic behavior and different rheological properties. Native, gelatinized and retrograded starches had resistant starch from 81.7% to 83.9%, from 1.7% to 5.1% and from 5.6% to 13.3%, respectively. The eight varieties were divided into 3 groups according to starch properties. This study is helpful for selecting suitable ramie variety as starch source.The retro-aldol reaction is one of the key steps involved in the oxidative conversion of lignin to aromatic aldehydes and acids. In principle, the retro-aldol reaction can proceed in the absence of oxygen. In this work, a new approach based on the influence of oxygen on the oxidation of lignin was investigated. In this approach, the duration of oxygen charged during the reaction was optimized to, for the first time, improve the yield of aromatic aldehydes and acids. The effect of reaction chemistry, time, temperature, and lignin feedstock plays a key role on the yield of aromatic aldehydes and acids. At 140 °C, oxidation of softwood Lignoboost kraft lignin for 40 min results in combined maximum yield of 5.17% w/w of vanillin and vanillic acid. In comparison, using the new approach in which oxygen was charged for only 20 min during the 40 min reaction improved this yield considerably to 6.95%. Further, yield improvement was obtained when applying this approach to different lignin feedstocks. Oxidation also increased the carboxyl content in lignin from 0.49 mmol/g to 1.41 mmol/g which represents a marked improvement. The current study provides new evidence showing that the oxidation reaction is a crucial pathway for lignin valorization.Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a biodegradable plastic with physical properties similar to petrochemically derived plastics. The study conducted by scanning transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis and mapping confirmed the presence of carrageenan stabilizing AuNPs. Finally, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy was performed to analyze the functional groups of CMs involved in the reduction and stabilization of AuNPs. Ramie root is an underutilized starch source. In this study, eight ramie varieties were investigated for starch properties. Starch content ranged from 18.6% to 50.1% in dry root. Starches from different varieties showed similar morphology including ellipsoidal, spherical and truncated granules with size D[4,3] from 10.1 to 14.1 μm. Starch had amylose content from 20.8% to 28.5%. All ramie varieties had B-type starches with relative crystallinity from 24.8% to 27.1%, ordered degree from 0.724 to 0.897 and lamellar thickness from 9.1 to 9.6 nm. Starches had gelatinization peak temperature from 70.5 to 73.8 °C and enthalpy from 14.9 to 15.8 J/g. Starches had swelling power and water solubility from 27.9 to 31.9 g/g and from 11.7% to 15.5%, respectively, at 95 °C, and exhibited different pasting properties with breakdown viscosity from 36 to 377 mPa s and setback viscosities from 1295 to 1863 mPa s. Starch pastes exhibited pseudoplastic behavior and different rheological properties. Native, gelatinized and retrograded starches had resistant starch from 81.7% to 83.9%, from 1.7% to 5.1% and from 5.6% to 13.3%, respectively. The eight varieties were divided into 3 groups according to starch properties. This study is helpful for selecting suitable ramie variety as starch source.The retro-aldol reaction is one of the key steps involved in the oxidative conversion of lignin to aromatic aldehydes and acids. In principle, the retro-aldol reaction can proceed in the absence of oxygen. In this work, a new approach based on the influence of oxygen on the oxidation of lignin was investigated. In this approach, the duration of oxygen charged during the reaction was optimized to, for the first time, improve the yield of aromatic aldehydes and acids. The effect of reaction chemistry, time, temperature, and lignin feedstock plays a key role on the yield of aromatic aldehydes and acids. At 140 °C, oxidation of softwood Lignoboost kraft lignin for 40 min results in combined maximum yield of 5.17% w/w of vanillin and vanillic acid. In comparison, using the new approach in which oxygen was charged for only 20 min during the 40 min reaction improved this yield considerably to 6.95%. Further, yield improvement was obtained when applying this approach to different lignin feedstocks. Oxidation also increased the carboxyl content in lignin from 0.49 mmol/g to 1.41 mmol/g which represents a marked improvement. The current study provides new evidence showing that the oxidation reaction is a crucial pathway for lignin valorization.Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a biodegradable plastic with physical properties similar to petrochemically derived plastics. The incidence of respiratory diseases, such as asthma, has substantially increased in recent times owing to environmental changes, such as air pollution. Induction of a chronic inflammatory response begins with production of biologically active mediators from the airway epithelium, which attracts and recruits inflammatory cells into the lung airway. In our previous study, we confirmed that Lactobacillus casei HY2782 and Bifidobacterium animalis spp. lactis HY8002 could improve lung inflammation in the COPD animal model. In this study, we investigated the effect of the HY2782 complex against airway hyperresponsiveness by using an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced animal model. Furthermore, antibody microarray and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis results showed that the proteins implicated in the Akt signaling pathway were most likely altered by AA. Notably, upon AA treatment, heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90), a positive regulator of Akt, was decreased, resulting in Akt degradation. Parents of children aged 5 to 15 years, with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Down syndrome (DS), or spina bifida (SB) were recruited nationally. Demographics, the Child Feeding Questionnaire, and the Questionnaire on Resources and Stress were completed online. Analysis included regression with an empirical Bayesian effects model. Results Five hundred twenty-three parents, 186 (ASD), 173 (DS) and 164 (SB), participated. Family stressors were associated with the use of controlling feeding practices. Direct effects included (1) physical incapacitation on restriction and pressure to eat (ASD and DS); (2) pessimism (ASD) and concerns about child overweight (SB) on pressure to eat; and (3) parent/family problems on restriction (DS). Concern for child overweight moderated these relationships and resulted in two interactions (DS and SB). Conclusion Understanding the relationship of family stressors with parental feeding practices and the role of parental concern for child overweight can potentially optimize feeding in this high-risk population. This study highlights the need to provide family-centered care with awareness of stress and its potential association with daily activities and children's health.

Chagas disease and visceral leishmaniasis are two neglected tropical diseases responsible for numerous deaths around the world. For both, current treatments are largely inadequate, resulting in a continued need for new drug discovery. As both kinetoplastid parasites are incapable of de novo purine synthesis, they depend on purine salvage pathways that allow them to acquire and process purines from the host to meet their demands. Purine nucleoside analogues therefore constitute a logical source of potential antiparasitic agents. Earlier optimization efforts of the natural product tubercidin (7-deazaadenosine) involving modifications to the nucleobase 7-position and the ribofuranose 3'-position led to analogues with potent anti-Trypanosoma brucei and anti-Trypanosoma cruzi activities. In this work, we report the design and synthesis of pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine nucleosides with 3'- and 7-modifications and assess their potential as anti-Trypanosoma cruzi and antileishmanial agents. One compound was selected for in vivo evaluation in an acute Chagas disease mouse model.Nanoscale molecularly imprinted polymers (nanoMIPs) are powerful molecular recognition tools with broad applications in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of complex diseases. In this work, fully atomistic molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are used to assist the design of nanoMIPs with recognition capacity toward l-fucose and d-mannose as prototype disease biomarkers. MD simulations were conducted on prepolymerization mixtures containing different molar ratios of the monomers N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM), methacrylamide (MAM), and (4-acrylamidophenyl)(amino)methaniminium acetate (AB) and fixed molar ratios of the cross-linker ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) in explicit acetonitrile as the porogenic solvent. Prepolymerization mixtures containing ternary mixtures of NIPAM (50%), MAM (25%), and AB (25%) exhibit the best imprinting potential for both l-fucose and d-mannose, as they maximize (i) the stability of template-monomer plus template-cross-linker interactions, (ii) the number of functional monomers plus cross-linkers organized around the template, and (iii) the number of hydrogen bonds participating in template recognition. The studied prepolymerization mixtures exhibit an overall increased recognition capacity toward d-mannose over l-fucose, which is attributed to the higher hydrogen-bonding capacity of the former template. In this study, the impacts of polymer selection and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) physicochemical properties (wet glass transition temperature (Tg) and log P) on nanodroplet release were studied. Chagas disease and visceral leishmaniasis are two neglected tropical diseases responsible for numerous deaths around the world. For both, current treatments are largely inadequate, resulting in a continued need for new drug discovery. As both kinetoplastid parasites are incapable of de novo purine synthesis, they depend on purine salvage pathways that allow them to acquire and process purines from the host to meet their demands. Purine nucleoside analogues therefore constitute a logical source of potential antiparasitic agents. Earlier optimization efforts of the natural product tubercidin (7-deazaadenosine) involving modifications to the nucleobase 7-position and the ribofuranose 3'-position led to analogues with potent anti-Trypanosoma brucei and anti-Trypanosoma cruzi activities. In this work, we report the design and synthesis of pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine nucleosides with 3'- and 7-modifications and assess their potential as anti-Trypanosoma cruzi and antileishmanial agents. One compound was selected for in vivo evaluation in an acute Chagas disease mouse model.Nanoscale molecularly imprinted polymers (nanoMIPs) are powerful molecular recognition tools with broad applications in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of complex diseases. In this work, fully atomistic molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are used to assist the design of nanoMIPs with recognition capacity toward l-fucose and d-mannose as prototype disease biomarkers. MD simulations were conducted on prepolymerization mixtures containing different molar ratios of the monomers N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM), methacrylamide (MAM), and (4-acrylamidophenyl)(amino)methaniminium acetate (AB) and fixed molar ratios of the cross-linker ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) in explicit acetonitrile as the porogenic solvent. Prepolymerization mixtures containing ternary mixtures of NIPAM (50%), MAM (25%), and AB (25%) exhibit the best imprinting potential for both l-fucose and d-mannose, as they maximize (i) the stability of template-monomer plus template-cross-linker interactions, (ii) the number of functional monomers plus cross-linkers organized around the template, and (iii) the number of hydrogen bonds participating in template recognition. The studied prepolymerization mixtures exhibit an overall increased recognition capacity toward d-mannose over l-fucose, which is attributed to the higher hydrogen-bonding capacity of the former template. Proteins that recognize the epigenetic modifications function as mediators to interpret the epigenetic codes. Hypoxia response and metabolic rewiring are two major events during cancer progression. However, it's still unclear whether and how epigenetic regulator integrates hypoxia response and metabolism together. We data mined the clinical association of 33 histone Kac reader proteins with liver cancer and that AF9 is upregulated in cancer and correlates with tumor stage and poor prognosis. Conditional deletion of Af9 in mouse liver resulted in decreased tumor formation induced by c-Met/β-catenin. Loss of AF9 heavily impaired cell proliferation and completely blocked solid tumor formation. Simulation studies show good performance in terms of both prediction and estimation. We finally apply our methods to analyze the brain images from open access series of imaging studies data.Identifying a therapist with expertise in treating eating disorders (EDs) can be a daunting process for a consumer, resulting in delayed access to evidence-based treatment, prolonging unnecessary suffering. We developed a consumer checklist designed to empower consumers to locate evidence-based treatment earlier. We co-designed (researchers and people with lived experience of an ED) a 15-item consumer checklist, for use in a meeting with a potential therapist. A survey about the checklist was sent out to people with lived experience and clinicians, seeking quantitative endorsement of each item's helpfulness in the checklist, and inviting qualitative feedback. Seventeen people with lived experience and 11 clinicians gave feedback. The items were rated as being helpful, with overlap between the two groups as to the most helpful items. Both groups rated the checklist as likely to help locate effective treatment earlier. The checklist forms a basis for a useful consumer tool in their treatment journey. On the basis of a study of the structure-activity relationship of these compounds, we propose that the presence of two methoxy groups at positions 6 and 7 of the indeno nucleus and a 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy phenyl substitution pattern at position 4 of the pyridine ring is decisive for these types of molecules to exert very good antiproliferative and antimetastatic activities.Floods occur frequently and cause considerable damage to local environments. In this study, the weighted naïve Bayes (WNB) method was selected to evaluate flood risk, and the entropy weight method was employed to compute the weights. A sampling and verifying model was employed to generate the most accurate conditional probability table (MACPT) to calculate the probability of flooding. When using the framework integrating WNB with the sampling and verifying model, previous studies could not obtain a WNB-based MACPT and the WNB classification accuracy, for lacking WNB functions that could be called directly. Facing this issue, in this study we developed WNB functions with the MATLAB platform to directly integrate with the sampling and verifying model to generate a WNB-based MACPT, contributing to the greater interpretability and extensibility of the model. Shantou and Jieyang cities in China were selected as the study area. The results demonstrate that (1) a WNB-based MACPT can reflect the real spatial distribution of flood risk and (2) the WNB outperform the NB when integrated with the sampling and verifying model. The resulting gridded estimation reveal a detailed spatial pattern of flood risk, which can serve as a realistic reference for decision making related to floods. Furthermore, the proposed method uses less data, which would be helpful in developing countries where long-term intensive hydrologic monitoring is limited.Randomized vaccine trials are used to assess vaccine efficacy (VE) and to characterize the durability of vaccine-induced protection. This will likely lead to most placebo volunteers crossing over to the vaccine arm, thus complicating the assessment of long term durability. We show how to analyze durability following placebo crossover and demonstrate that the VE profile that would be observed in a placebo controlled trial is recoverable in a trial with placebo crossover. This result holds no matter when the crossover occurs and with no assumptions about the form of the efficacy profile. We only require that the VE profile applies to the newly vaccinated irrespective of the timing of vaccination. We develop different methods to estimate efficacy within the context of a proportional hazards regression model and explore via simulation the implications of placebo crossover for estimation of VE under different efficacy dynamics and study designs.

Calpain small subunit 1 (Capns1) has shown its correlation with the metastasis and invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. However, the expression and function of Capns1 in human renal cell carcinoma (RCC) have not been clarified. This study aimed to examine the expression of Capns1 in RCC tissues and cell lines and to assess its role performed in RCC.
Capns1 expression was evaluated in 75 pairs of RCC and matched adjacent non-tumor tissues by immunohistochemistry. The prognostic value of Capns1 in RCC was assessed by Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses. The action of Capns1 in the proliferation, adhesion, migration, and invasion of RCC cells and the effects on matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) 2 and 9 expression were evaluated after Capns1 silence.
Capns1 expression was significantly higher in RCC tissues compared with the adjacent non-tumor tissues. Multivariate analysis showed that Capns1 overexpression was an independent poor prognostic marker in RCC. The silencing of Capns1 prohibited cell adhesion and impaired the migration and invasion ability of 786-O cells in vitro. Furthermore, Capns1 silence reduced MMP2 and MMP9 expression.

Parenteral nutrition (PN) has become an efficient, safe, and convenient treatment over years for patients suffering from intestinal failure. Home PN (HPN) enables the patients to have a high quality of life in their own environment. The therapy management however implies many restrictions and potentially severe lethal complications. Prevention and therapy of the latter are therefore of utmost importance. This study aims to assess and characterize the situation of patients with HPN focusing on prevalence of catheter-related complications and mortality.
Swiss multicentre prospective observational study collecting demographic, anthropometric, and catheter-related data by means of questionnaires every sixth month from 2017 to 2019 (24 months), focusing on survival and complications. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Logistic regression models were fitted to investigate association between infection and potential co-factors.
Seventy adult patients (50% women) on HPN were included (≈5 patients/million adult inhabitants/year). The most common underlying diseases were cancer (23%), bariatric surgery (11%), and Crohn's disease (10%). The most prevalent indication was short bowel syndrome (30%). Topical 15% resorcinol is commonly used in clinical practice for the treatment of nodules and abscesses in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). It has been shown to be clinically effective in some small studies, but data on satisfaction perceived by patients are lacking. The Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication (TSQM) version 1.4 is a validated measure of patient satisfaction, evaluating four domains effectiveness, side effects, convenience, and global satisfaction. Our objective was to obtain data from HS patients regarding resorcinol treatment satisfaction and its relationship with clinical and epidemiological variables.
We performed a cross-sectional study providing TSQM version 1.4 questionnaires to HS patients who had been prescribed topical resorcinol during the previous 24 months.
Ninety-two patients answered the questionnaire. Eighty-five out of 92 (92.4%) were Hurley II and 7 Hurley I. The mean total score was 317.5 out of 400 (71.0 points in effectiveness, 93.6 in side effects, 79.3 in convenience, and 73.2 in global satisfaction). Total score was higher in men than in women (329.7 vs. 311.6, p = 0.026) and higher scores on convenience were seen in patients who were not overweight or obese (86.9 vs. 77.1, p = 0.016). Most patients (65, 70.6%) denied having any side effect. 78 (84.8%) of the patients would recommend the treatment.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) remains a major cause of end-stage renal disease. The development of novel biomarkers and early diagnosis of DN are of great clinical importance. The goal of this study was to identify hub genes with diagnostic potential for DN by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA).
Gene Expression Omnibus database was searched for microarray data including distinct types of CKD. Gene co-expression network was constructed, and modules specific for DN were identified by WGCNA. Gene ontology (GO) analysis was performed, and the hub genes were screened out within the selected gene modules. In addition, cross-validation was performed in an independent dataset and in samples of renal biopsies with DN and other types of glomerular diseases.

Calpain small subunit 1 (Capns1) has shown its correlation with the metastasis and invasion of hepatocellular carcinoma and intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. However, the expression and function of Capns1 in human renal cell carcinoma (RCC) have not been clarified. This study aimed to examine the expression of Capns1 in RCC tissues and cell lines and to assess its role performed in RCC. Capns1 expression was evaluated in 75 pairs of RCC and matched adjacent non-tumor tissues by immunohistochemistry. The prognostic value of Capns1 in RCC was assessed by Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses. The action of Capns1 in the proliferation, adhesion, migration, and invasion of RCC cells and the effects on matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) 2 and 9 expression were evaluated after Capns1 silence. It has been shown to be clinically effective in some small studies, but data on satisfaction perceived by patients are lacking. The Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire for Medication (TSQM) version 1.4 is a validated measure of patient satisfaction, evaluating four domains effectiveness, side effects, convenience, and global satisfaction. Our objective was to obtain data from HS patients regarding resorcinol treatment satisfaction and its relationship with clinical and epidemiological variables. We performed a cross-sectional study providing TSQM version 1.4 questionnaires to HS patients who had been prescribed topical resorcinol during the previous 24 months. Ninety-two patients answered the questionnaire. Eighty-five out of 92 (92.4%) were Hurley II and 7 Hurley I. The mean total score was 317.5 out of 400 (71.0 points in effectiveness, 93.6 in side effects, 79.3 in convenience, and 73.2 in global satisfaction). Total score was higher in men than in women (329.7 vs. 311.6, p = 0.026) and higher scores on convenience were seen in patients who were not overweight or obese (86.9 vs. 77.1, p = 0.016). MCH neurons are activated in a more select manner, for example upon self-paced investigation of novel objects and by certain other novel stimuli. We discuss optogenetic and chemogenetic manipulations of orexin and MCH neurons, which combined with pharmacological blockade of orexin and MCH receptors, imply that these rapid LH dynamics shape fundamental cognitive and motor processes due to orexin and MCH neuropeptide actions in the awake brain. Finally, we contemplate whether the awake control of psychomotor brain functions by orexin and MCH are distinct from their "arousal" effects.
Depression induces an early onset of Parkinson's disease (PD), aggravates dyskinesia and cognitive impairment, and accelerates disease progression. However, it is very difficult to identify and diagnose PD with depression (PDD) in the early clinical stage. Few studies have suggested that the changes in neural networks are associated with PDD, while degree centrality (DC) has been documented to be effective in detecting brain network changes.
The objectives of this study are to explore DC changes between patients with PDD and without depression (PDND) and to find the key brain hubs involved with depression in PD patients.
One hundred and four PD patients and 54 healthy controls (HCs) underwent brain resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging. The Data Processing and Analysis of Brain Imaging and Resting-State Functional Magnetic Resonance Data Analysis Toolkit were used for processing and statistical analysis. The DC value of each frequency band was calculated. One-way analysis of variance and a fusiform gyrus, and left caudate nucleus in the traditional frequency band (0.01-0.08 Hz) compared to PDND patients. PDND patients displayed more abnormal functions in the basal ganglia in the slow-4 frequency band.

Treatment regimen started a week after SCI, which consists of ketamine administration (30 mg kg-1 day-1; intramuscular) for 10 days, or EE housing for 20 days, or their combination. Paw withdrawal response to mechanical and thermal stimuli, motor function, burrowing behaviors, and body weight was monitored. Spinal segments at T13 lesion and L4-L6 were collected for histopathological and protein analyses. The joint treatment of EE and ketamine provided greater relief of pain-like behaviors and locomotor recovery than did either paradigm alone. These improvements were associated with reduced cavitation area, astrogliosis, and perilesional phosphorylation of glutamate N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR). Concurrently, lumbar spinal analysis of NMDAR-linked excitatory markers in hypersensitization showed reduced activation of NMDAR, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) family, nuclear factor (NF)-κB, interleukin (IL)-1β signaling, and restored excitatory amino acid transporter 2 level. Interobserver and intraobserver reliability were calculated using the kappa statistic. Sex differences were also recorded and analyzed. The
test was used to assess for any significant differences in measurements due to sex (

The mean PW varied from 4.4 mm in C3 to 6.1 mm in C7. The mean PH was 6.4 mm in C3 and 6.8 mm in C7. Pedicle TA varied from 42 to 51 degrees between the different levels. Sex differences were observed and were statistically significant for PW and PH. Interobserver reliability was high for PW and PH, but was low for TA. Intraobserver reliability was 0.99 for both assessors.
This study provides reliable PW and PH measurements and demonstrates that cervical pedicle screw instrumentation is feasible in our local population. Significant variability exists, however, and each patient must be addressed individually for best results.

The minimally invasive cortical trajectory screw (MidLF) technique has been described accompanied with posterolateral interbody fusion (PLIF). We present our 2-year results of a hybrid technique to show that using transforaminal interbody fusion (TLIF) rather than PLIF in conjunction with MidLF is a less invasive and safe technique.
We retrospectively identified 25 patients who underwent MidLF with TLIF from July 2015 through September 2017. The surgical technique was the same for each, with radiological, clinical, and patient-reported outcome data collected and analyzed at a 2-year follow-up.
The cohort showed a mean age of 55 (35-85) years. The length of hospital stay was between 1 and 4 days, with an average of 2.7 days. Postoperatively, lordosis across the motion segment fused increased by a mean of 7.3° (0°-24°), mean pelvic incidence was 53°(31°-80°), and pelvic tilt reduced by an average of 3.5° (0°-11°). The Oswestry Disability Index improved from 34 preoperatively to 19 postoperatively. Visual analogue pain score-leg improved by 4.7 points, from 6 down to 1. One patient showed delayed wound healing. There were no incidences of neurological injury or durotomy.
Our data suggests that MidLF with TLIF is both less invasive than traditional techniques and safe. It restores lordosis, requires less exposure and retraction of neural elements than the more widely used PLIF, and shows early discharge and satisfactory medium-term patient-reported outcomes.

There are still no consensus criteria on how to select the lower instrumented vertebra (LIV) for traditional growing rods (TGRs) at index surgery. The aim was to evaluate whether the criteria used for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis fusion adapts to early onset scoliosis (EOS).
Retrospective analysis of prospectively longitudinal collected data in a consecutive cohort of patients with EOS treated with TGR, expanding from index surgery to 2 years after graduation. The LIV was analyzed regarding its relation to the stable vertebra (SV), substantially touched vertebra (STV), and not STV (NSTV). Failure of LIV selection was considered when revision surgery with distal extension was needed during follow up, due to adding on (ΔLIV tilt > 10°).
A total of 25 patients met inclusion criteria. Mean age was 8.6 ± 3 (at index surgery), 15.1 ± 1.8 (at graduation), and 17.8 ± 1.6 (at final follow up). The most frequent LIV at index surgery was L3 (13/25); in 13 cases, STV was selected as LIV; in 7, it was NSTV; anmity during growth, and save distal segments to allow growth and mobility.

Lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) affords a wide operative corridor to allow for a large interbody cage implantation for segmental reconstruction. There is a paucity of data describing segmental lordosis (SL) achieved with lordotic implants of varying angles. Here we compare changes in SL and lumbar lordosis (LL) after implantation of 6°, 10°, and 12° cages.
We retrospectively reviewed LLIF cases over a 5.5-year period. We derived SL and LL using the standard cobb angle measurement from a standing lateral radiograph. We analyzed mean changes in SL and LL over time using the linear mixed effect model to estimate these longitudinal changes.
The most frequently treated level was L3-4, followed by L4-5. Significant increases in mean SL were found at each follow-up time point for all the cohorts. In an intercohort comparison, the mean changes in SL at immediate postoperative and last follow-up were significantly greater in the 10° cohort than 6° ([7.4° versus 3.1°,
.004], [6.1° versus 2.3°,
= .025] respectively).

This study shows that the morphology of the subaxial cervical pedicle permits instrumentation in a majority of cases of our target population. The minimally invasive cortical trajectory screw (MidLF) technique has been described accompanied with posterolateral interbody fusion (PLIF). We present our 2-year results of a hybrid technique to show that using transforaminal interbody fusion (TLIF) rather than PLIF in conjunction with MidLF is a less invasive and safe technique. We retrospectively identified 25 patients who underwent MidLF with TLIF from July 2015 through September 2017. The surgical technique was the same for each, with radiological, clinical, and patient-reported outcome data collected and analyzed at a 2-year follow-up. The cohort showed a mean age of 55 (35-85) years. The length of hospital stay was between 1 and 4 days, with an average of 2.7 days. Postoperatively, lordosis across the motion segment fused increased by a mean of 7.3° (0°-24°), mean pelvic incidence was 53°(31°-80°), and pelvic tilt reduced by an average of 3.5° (0°-11°). The Oswestry Disability Index improved from 34 preoperatively to 19 postoperatively. Visual analogue pain score-leg improved by 4.7 points, from 6 down to 1. One patient showed delayed wound healing. There were no incidences of neurological injury or durotomy. Our data suggests that MidLF with TLIF is both less invasive than traditional techniques and safe. It restores lordosis, requires less exposure and retraction of neural elements than the more widely used PLIF, and shows early discharge and satisfactory medium-term patient-reported outcomes. 3. Retrospective analysis of prospectively longitudinal collected data in a consecutive cohort of patients with EOS treated with TGR, expanding from index surgery to 2 years after graduation. The LIV was analyzed regarding its relation to the stable vertebra (SV), substantially touched vertebra (STV), and not STV (NSTV). Failure of LIV selection was considered when revision surgery with distal extension was needed during follow up, due to adding on (ΔLIV tilt > 10°). A total of 25 patients met inclusion criteria. Mean age was 8.6 ± 3 (at index surgery), 15.1 ± 1.8 (at graduation), and 17.8 ± 1.6 (at final follow up). We derived SL and LL using the standard cobb angle measurement from a standing lateral radiograph. We analyzed mean changes in SL and LL over time using the linear mixed effect model to estimate these longitudinal changes. The most frequently treated level was L3-4, followed by L4-5. Significant increases in mean SL were found at each follow-up time point for all the cohorts. A simple, rapid and accurate method for quantitative analysis of a highly selective phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor (PDE5), TPN171 by high performance liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry in human plasma was proposed and validated successfully using D3-TPN171 as internal standards (ISTD). An aliquot of 100 μL of plasma was mixed with internal standard and was precipitated with acetonitrile. Gradient elution was performed on a ACQUITY HSS T3 column (50 × 2.1 mm, 1.8 μm) coupled with a ACQUITY column in-line filter at 40℃, by 5 mM ammonium acetate in water containing 0.1 % formic acid and 0.1 % formic acid in acetonitrile as the mobile phase. The total analytical run time was 3.5 min. The analyte was monitored using multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) scan in positive polarity mode. The ion transition was m/z 442.2→113.2 and 445.2→116.2 for TPN171 and D3-TPN171 respectively. The Monte Carlo method is used for the forward modeling to predict the X-ray radiation for a given specimen and experimental setup. Several examples of applications are presented for different types of samples with one-dimensional (1D) and 2D structures, in which the simulated X-ray intensities from phantom samples are used as input. Most of the results obtained from our algorithm agree well with the phantom samples. Some discrepancies are found for the voxels located at deeper depths of the 2D samples. And the discrepancies may be attributed to errors from the Monte Carlo simulations and from the variation of the X-ray range with beam energy. The results indicated that lesbian women reported experiencing less BID compared to heterosexual women on measures of global satisfaction, but more compared to gay men, and gay men reported experiencing greater BID compared to heterosexual men on three out of five analyses. Moderation analyses indicated that the study quality was not a statistically significant moderator of the effect sizes. The KD exerts anti-inflammatory action against a variety of experimental models of neurological disorders including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, pain, and spinal cord injury. Anti-inflammatory action of KD appears to be mediated by multiple mechanisms. Ketones bodies, caloric restriction, polyunsaturated fatty acids and gut microbiota modifications might be involved in the modulation of inflammation by the KD.

A TGT response-related ceRNA axis was screened according to clinical cohort-based RNA expression profiling, lncRNA-mRNA coexpression, and ceRNA network analyses. Its clinical relevance was evaluated by computational modeling. Regulatory mechanisms of ceRNA axis were also experimentally investigated.
The ceRNA regulatory axis combined with lncRNA ENST00000494760, miR-654-5p, and C1QC was identified as a candidate biomarker for RA patients' response to TGT. Both ENST00000494760 and C1QC mRNA expression were significantly lower, while miR-654-5p expression was dramatically higher in TGT rsonalized healthcare.
Autophagy is an intracellular degradation pathway conserved in eukaryotes. ANXA6 (annexin A6) belongs to a family of calcium-dependent membrane and phospholipid-binding proteins. Here, we identify ANXA6 as a newly synthesized protein in starvation-induced autophagy and validate it as a novel autophagy modulator that regulates autophagosome formation.
ANXA6 knockdown attenuates starvation-induced autophagy, while restoration of its expression enhances autophagy. GO (gene ontology) analysis of ANXA6 targets showed that ANXA6 interacts with many RAB GTPases and targets endocytosis and phagocytosis pathways, indicating that ANXA6 exerts its function through protein trafficking. ATG9A (autophagy-related 9A) is the sole multispanning transmembrane protein and its trafficking through recycling endosomes is an essential step for autophagosome formation. Despite the importance of glycosylation in exosomes and the recent recognition of them as biomarkers for not only malignancies but also other system dysfunction and disease, the characterization of exosome glycans remains understudied. In this review, we discuss glycosylation patterns of exosomes derived from various tissues, their biological features, and potential for various clinical applications. We highlight state-of-the-art knowledge about the fine structure of exosomes, which will allow researchers to reconstruct them by surface modification. These efforts will likely lead to novel disease-related biomarker discovery, purification tagging, and targeted drug transfer for clinical applications in the future.
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as key regulators in multiple cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the biological functions and molecular mechanisms underlying most lncRNAs in CRC remain largely unknown.
A novel lncRNA (TCONS_00012883) was identified using RNA sequencing. The level of TCONS_00012883 expression in CRC was analyzed by qRT-PCR. The biological functions of TCONS_00012883 in CRC were investigated by a series of in vitro and in vivo experiments CCK8, colony formation, EdU, flow cytometric assays, transwell assays, and mouse xenograft. The molecular mechanisms of TCONS_00012883 were demonstrated by RNA pulldown, mass spectrometry analysis, RIP, coimmunoprecipitation, RNA sequencing, chromatin immunoprecipitation, and rescue experiments.

Glycosylation is one of the most common post-translational modification, which functions in many physiological and pathological aspects of cellular function. Many components of exosomes are heavily glycosylated including proteins, lipids, among others. Thus, glycosylation undoubtedly has a great impact on exosome biosynthesis and function. Despite the importance of glycosylation in exosomes and the recent recognition of them as biomarkers for not only malignancies but also other system dysfunction and disease, the characterization of exosome glycans remains understudied. In this review, we discuss glycosylation patterns of exosomes derived from various tissues, their biological features, and potential for various clinical applications. We highlight state-of-the-art knowledge about the fine structure of exosomes, which will allow researchers to reconstruct them by surface modification. These efforts will likely lead to novel disease-related biomarker discovery, purification tagging, and targeted drug transfer for clinical applications in the future. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as key regulators in multiple cancers, including colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the biological functions and molecular mechanisms underlying most lncRNAs in CRC remain largely unknown. A novel lncRNA (TCONS_00012883) was identified using RNA sequencing. The level of TCONS_00012883 expression in CRC was analyzed by qRT-PCR. The biological functions of TCONS_00012883 in CRC were investigated by a series of in vitro and in vivo experiments CCK8, colony formation, EdU, flow cytometric assays, transwell assays, and mouse xenograft. The molecular mechanisms of TCONS_00012883 were demonstrated by RNA pulldown, mass spectrometry analysis, RIP, coimmunoprecipitation, RNA sequencing, chromatin immunoprecipitation, and rescue experiments. Elevated expression of TCONS_00012883 was confirmed in CRC and positively associated with a poor prognosis.
