Wire Baskets Are Less Expensive To Use
If a company uses wire baskets in parts cleaning applications to try and save money by using baskets made of plain steel instead of stainless steel, their upfront costs will be lower. Unfortunately, however, ordinary steel baskets are quickly corroded by the chemicals used in the parts cleaning process. This will shorten the life of the basket and may damage the parts being cleaned.
Stainless steel, on the other hand, can withstand the mild caustic agents used during component cleaning for longer periods of time. These baskets don't last for months, they last for years.
There are many different types of stainless steel alloys, from common alloys such as grade 304 stainless steel to less common alloys such as grade 420 stainless steel.
Each of these alloys has different properties than the others. Some alloys have higher tensile strength, greater corrosion resistance, and even higher temperature resistance than others.
These properties can affect the performance of metal storage containers or parts wash baskets in different situations. For example, baskets made from grade 330 stainless steel can withstand temperatures up to 1,900 degrees Fahrenheit (940 degrees Celsius) without much loss of tensile strength, making them ideal for heat-treating applications. Other alloy steels, when exposed to such high temperatures, lose most of their tensile strength, causing part loads to deform the vessel.
