How to Change Default System Font on Windows 10

Changing the default font in Windows 10 isn’t tough, but you have to access Registry and make some changes on it to finish the task quickly. People that are using Windows 7 or older version, they can customize default font for File Explorer, menus, icons, messages section and many more.

Unfortunately, Windows 10 doesn’t allow users to change default font from system settings. So don’t worry if you’re stuck with the default Segoe UI font in Windows 10 because you can change it through Registry by following steps:

How to Change Default Font on Windows 10

Before making changes on Registry, make sure to take the full backup of your Windows 10 PC.

  • Launch the Start menu.
  • Find Notepad and open the top result.
  • Copy and paste the following Registry code in the Notepad.

  • Launch Settings.
  • Press the Personalization option.
  • Press on the Fonts.
  • Choose the preferred Font pack to apply.
  • In the Registry code, change the “New-FONT-NAME” with your preferred name.
  • Press the File option.
  • Choose Save as.
  • In the Save as type section, choose All Files.
  • Confirm the name of the file, and type .reg as an extension.
  • Press Save.
  • Make a right-click on the recently created .reg file and press the Merge option.
  • Press Yes.
  • Press OK.
  • Restart your computer.

After following these steps, you’ll see new fonts applied on all visual elements such as Taskbar, File Explorer, Apps, Messages Box and many more. Once you make changes on Registry, you can select new fonts anytime without any further customization on Registry.

How to Restore Default System Font on Windows 10

If you ever want to restore to the previous font settings through Registry, here’s what you need to do:

Undo Settings using Registry

  • Launch the Start menu.
  • Search and open the Notepad.
  • Copy and pass the Registry code in the Notepad:

  • Make a right-click on the recently created .reg file and press the Merge option.
  • Press Yes.
  • Press OK.

Now restart your computer, and your previous settings will now be as default settings.

Undo Settings using Restore Point

  • Launch the Start menu.
  • Find and open Create a restore point.
  • Press on the System Protection option.
  • Choose the System Restore box.
  • Press Next.
  • Choose the restore point which was created before the new settings applied.
  • Press Next.
  • Press Finish.

Follow these steps correctly to reset the settings.
