Considering the pace at which technological advances are taking place in the arena of AI, and the pace at which AI is being integrated with health care systems, it is not be unreasonable to believe that TS in health care might occur in the near future and that AI-enabled services will profoundly augment the capabilities of doctors, if not completely replace them. There is a need to understand the associated challenges so that we may better prepare the health care system and society to embrace such a change - if it happens.
    To determine the prevalence and the risk factors of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in hospitalized adult Saudi diabetics.

    This is a retrospective, nested case-control study conducted at King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. All diabetic patients admitted to the hospital between the January 1, and December 31, 2018 were considered for inclusion in the study. Patients with DPN were identified and three controls per case were randomly selected from the remaining diabetic patients without peripheral neuropathy (PN).

    A total of 2,096 adult diabetic patients were identified during the study period. Of these, 73 patients (3.5%) were confirmed to be suffering from DPN and 219 were included as controls. When comparing diabetic with the control cases, DPN cases were significantly older (
    =0.002), had a significantly higher proportion of type 2 diabetes (
    =0.023), chronic kidney disease (
    <0.0001), cerebral vascular stroke (
    =0.027), hypertension (
    =0.005), dyslipidemia (
    =0.00gns aimed at risk reduction of cardiovascular and chronic diseases, and consequently progression of DPN.

    FLT3-internal tandem duplication (FLT3/ITD) mutation and CD34 expression levels were assessed in the bone marrow (BM) aspirates of 153 de novo AML patients. Data were correlated with relevant clinic-pathological features of the patients, response to treatment, disease-free survival (DFS), and overall free survival (OS) rates.

    FLT3-ITD mutation was detected in 27/153 (17.6%) AML patients (
    =0.001), and CD34 was expressed in 83/153 (54.2%) patients (
    =0.293) compared to those with wild FLT3 and CD34

She was treated with intravenous ceftriaxone for 2 weeks and made a great recovery without any sequalae. In conclusion, although GBS meningitis is uncommon in adults, it is a serious medical disease and associated with a high mortality rate. To the best of our knowledge, this patient represents one of the few reported cases of GBS meningitis in a previously healthy young adult.

  • Whipples disease (WD) is a rare infectious disease with an annual incidence of 1-610.000.000. It is mostly found in middle aged, Caucasian males. The causative bacterial agent Tropheryma whipplei (TW) is common, but only few infected with TW develop actual WD pointing to host factors as essential. We present a case story of classic WD seen in a 48-year-old man presumed to have sarcoidosis and therefore treated with prednisolone which caused WD to flare up and ultimately unmask the disease.Erythropoietin (EPO) is a hypoxia-inducible hormone best known for its role in erythropoiesis. However, EPO also has anti-inflammatory and tissue-protective characteristics in multiple organs as summarised in this review. In the brain, EPO is upregulated by hypoxia, regulates ventilation and plays a key role in neuroprotection and neuroplasticity. Systemically administered EPO crosses the blood-brain-barrier, enhances neuroplasticity and improves cognitive functions in several disorders of the brain.     Whipples disease (WD) is a rare infectious disease with an annual incidence of 1-610.000.000. It is mostly found in middle aged, Caucasian males. The causative bacterial agent Tropheryma whipplei (TW) is common, but only few infected with TW develop actual WD pointing to host factors as essential. We present a case story of classic WD seen in a 48-year-old man presumed to have sarcoidosis and therefore treated with prednisolone which caused WD to flare up and ultimately unmask the disease.Erythropoietin (EPO) is a hypoxia-inducible hormone best known for its role in erythropoiesis. However, EPO also has anti-inflammatory and tissue-protective characteristics in multiple organs as summarised in this review. As for the nano-additives without trace-element base, their positive influences are relied on providing active sites for the microorganism, as well as absorbing inhibitory factors. Moreover, comparisons of these nano-additives' impacts on the two gas-production phases were conducted, while methane-production phases are found to be more sensitive to additions of these nanoparticles then hydrogen-production phase. Research perspectives and research gaps in this area are discussed.In this study, a novel Up-flow Blanket Filter (UBF) reactor was applied to the degradation of antibiotic wastewater. The experiments showed that when the hydraulic retention time (HRT) was 24 h and the ratio of volatile fatty acids (VFA) to alkalinity (ALK) was 0.3, the best removal efficiency was achieved in the combined packing UBF reactor, and the COD removal efficiency reached 80.1%-84.6%, exhibiting a significant difference in reaction performance from the other two reactors (P less then 0.05) and a good efficiency of cefotaxime sodium removal. Moreover, the microstructure and surface characteristics of the reactor fillers were studied through scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis, which showed that three fillers all had biofilm adhesion, but the combined packing gave best performance. Energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) tests indicated abundant element components in the combined packing. The particle size distribution of sludge was also considered in the experiment, and the result showed the particle size of sludge increased with the operation of the reactor. In addition, microbial community structures of sludge and biofilm with the combined packing were analyzed. High-throughput sequencing confirmed the existence of Pseudomonas, which had good adaptability to antibiotic wastewater and became the dominant bacteria. Decomposition process of cefotaxime sodium after hydrolysis and anaerobic treatment was analyzed through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The reactor, which is economical, exhibited favorable performance in degrading the pollutions in the antibiotic wastewater.Artemisinin extracted from Artemisia annua L. plants has a range of properties that qualifies it to treat several diseases, such as malaria and cancer. However, it has short half-life, which requires making continuous use of it, which has motivated the association of artemisinin (ART) with polymeric nanoparticles to increase its therapeutic efficiency. However, the ecotoxicological safety of this association has been questioned, given the scarcity of studies in this area. Thus, in this work the toxicity of Poly (ε-Caprolactone) nanocapsules added with ART (ART-NANO) in zebrafish (Danio rerio), embryos and adults was studied. Different endpoints were analyzed in organisms exposed to ART-NANO, including those predictive of embryotoxicity and histopatoxicity. Embryotoxicity was analyzed based on Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) test guideline (236) for fish embryo acute toxicity applied to zebrafish (Danio rerio) at 96 hpf under five nominal logarithmic concentrations (0.125 to 2.0 mg/ L). Our results demonstrate, mainly, that fertilized eggs presented increased coagulation, lack of heart rate, vitelline sac displacement and lack of somite formation. On the other hand, adult individuals (exposed to the same concentrations and evaluated after 24 and 96 h of exposure) have shown increased pericarditis. Therefore, the treatment based on ART, poly (ε-caprolactone) nanocapsules and on their combination at different concentrations have shown toxic effects on zebrafish embryos and adult individuals.Due to increasingly severe microplastic pollution in freshwaters, the interaction between these contaminants and cyanobacteria warrants study. The dual peroxide system was set up, and the effects of 5 single factors (i.e., CP dosage, PS dosage, Fe2+ dosage, OA concentration, and soil/water ratio) on PAHs degradation were studied using the single-factor experiment.     In this study conducted from March 1, 2019 to June 1, 2019, 30 professional male basketball players were selected as the subjects, gait analysis was carried out when they finished the three-step layup in 15 minutes. Acquisition and noise reduction process of the collected sEMG signals were first filtered by band-pass filter to eliminate the noise outside the frequency, then suppressed by the spectral interpolation method, and finally subjected to wavelet transformation.

    The lower limb muscle group was activated once in a cycle. The anterior and posterior thigh muscle groups, and anterior Tibial muscles were activated in the early stage, increased to the maximum value and then decreased gradually; the long and short muscles attached to the fibula were activated in the middle stage, and decreased rapidly.

    This study aimed to find polymorphic loci associated with OPLL in Mongolian and Han population, the relationship of 9 polymorphic loci in Runx2 and IL-15RA with OPLL were identified in Mongolian and Han populations in Inner Mongolia.

    Gene polymorphism of two candidate genes Runx2 and IL-15RA were detected by sequencing in 99 OPLL patients of Han population and 98 patients of Mongolian people. Controls included 102 healthy Han people and 104 healthy Mongolian people. The result of sequencing of patients were compared with control subjects to screen loci with significant difference.

    In Han population, results of genotyping showed rs1321075 and rs12333172 in Runx2 and rs2296139 in IL-15RA differed between patients and healthy people (P<0.05); Genotype of rs1321075 and rs16873379 and rs2296139 in IL-15RA have significant difference between patients and controls in Mongolian people (P<0.05); There was no significant difference found in genotype and frequency of other loci (P>0.05).

    The study was carried out to improve scientificity in aerobics training, reduce sports injury and boost further development of aerobics.

    In the study, 1000 aerobics athletes from sports colleges were selected as research subjects. In this study, the prevention and treatment effect of functional strength training on calisthenics injury was analyzed. The research subjects were given functional strength training (including training under stable conditions, training under unstable conditions) for three months and then followed up for three months. After the training, the performance of the subjects in the calisthenics training was analyzed by using the functional movement test scale.

    The results showed that the1000 surveyed aerobics athletes had good motion stability and flexibility after functional strength training. Although 94 (9.4%) athletes had deficiency in some sport function, no serious sports injury was caused.

    As can be known from the study, for aerobics athletes, functional strength training can strengthen general strength training, further improve aerobics athletes' motor coordination ability, control ability, stability ability, enhance overall strength of athletes, thereby effectively preventing sports injuries.

    Dentists are exposed to a variety of airborne chemicals that can act as irritants and sensitizers and may give rise to work-related respiratory symptoms. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of respiratory symptoms of exposure to substances in the workplace and associated risk factors in Bulgarian dentists.

    A cross-sectional study was performed among Bulgarian dentists by using a self-report questionnaire. A direct acyclic graph (DAG) was elaborated to illustrate the direct and indirect causal pathways between exposure to irritants and/or allergens from dental environment and work-related respiratory symptoms among dentists. Multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted in order to investigate the relationship between sex, work experience, daily exposure to chemicals from dental environment, history of atopic disorder and work-related respiratory symptoms.

    A total of 4675 dentists completed the questionnaire (response rate 48.1%). The prevalence of self-reported work-related respiratory symptoms was 20.7%. The most common repeated causes of respiratory reactions were disinfectants (65.7%) and materials based on acrylic resins (29.7%). Factors associated with work-related respiratory symptoms are personal history of asthma (odds ratio (OR) 2.50, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.71-3.64), work experience >20years (OR 2.17, 95% CI 1.74-2.70) and female gender (OR 2.14, 95% CI 1.81-2.56).

    The largest number of articles about methamphetamine were published in 2015 with a higher proportion of these articles framed as a crisis than in other years. A crisis framing predominated media reporting across all years, with crime and legal consequences a key focus. Users were positioned predominantly as criminals, deviants or addicts.

A total of 4675 dentists completed the questionnaire (response rate 48.1%). The prevalence of self-reported work-related respiratory symptoms was 20.7%. Factors associated with work-related respiratory symptoms are personal history of asthma (odds ratio (OR) 2.50, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.71-3.64), work experience >20years (OR 2.17, 95% CI 1.74-2.70) and female gender (OR 2.14, 95% CI 1.81-2.56). Data were analysed using constant comparison, first identifying barriers and personal strategies to overcome them, and subsequently analysing interlinks between barriers and personal strategies.

    Accounts of barriers to planned dental visiting encompassed multiple barriers, which related to socioeconomic circumstances as well as experiences of oral health care. The members of the working group met by teleconference to update and formulate data-based recommendations. The recommendations are graded according to levels of evidence grading algorithm of the Chinese Stroke Association. The guideline draft has been reviewed by Chinese Stroke Association Stroke Council Guideline Writing Committee.

    Evidence-based guideline is proposed for the management of patients with ICH. The focus of the guideline is divided into the diagnosis and aetiology of ICH, management of ICH in emergency department, surgical treatment for removal of hematoma, management of complications and prevention of secondary ICH.

The surviving cells, persisters, are a major barrier to the timely and relapse-free treatment of tuberculosis (TB). We present for the first time, PerSort, a method to isolate and characterize persisters in the absence of antibiotic or other pressure. We demonstrate the value of PerSort to isolate translationally dormant cells that preexisted in small numbers within Mycobacterium species cultures growing under optimal conditions but that dramatically increased in proportion under stress conditions. The translationally dormant subpopulation exhibited multidrug tolerance and regrowth properties consistent with those of persister cells. Furthermore, PerSort enabled single-cell transcriptional profiling that provided evidence that the translationally dormant persisters were gentic treatment, translationally dormant persisters that preexist in small numbers within Mycobacterium cultures. Characterization of this subpopulation has discovered multiple mechanisms by which mycobacterial persisters emerge and unveiled the physiological basis for their dormant and multidrug-tolerant physiological state. This analysis has discovered that activating oxygen respiratory physiology using l-cysteine eliminates preexisting persister subpopulations, potentiating rapid antibiotic killing of mycobacteria under host-relevant stress. In this study, the behaviors of Cd in rhizosphere soils in phytoremediation were carefully studied and illustrated. We find that the migration rate of Cd in rhizosphere is higher than the absorption rate of Cd by roots of plants, and Cd in near-rhizosphere moves sluggishly, and near-rhizosphere soils forms a mass pool of Cd for absorption by plants. Additionally, in tall fescue and Indian mustard treatments, shoot biomasses, total extracted Cd and migration rate of Cd in near-rhizosphere soils were comparable. It suggests that shoot biomasses of plants significantly affect their extraction of heavy metals from rhizosphere soils. Biomasses of bacteria significantly increased after phytoremediation, and structures of microbiome communities of soils after phytoremediation reassembled significantly. Furthermore, Indian mustard, even with relative lower root biomasses, could better reassembled the microbiome communities in rhizosphere than tall fescue which possesses a higher developed root system. In the end, analyses of functional microorganisms in rhizosphere soils provide new insights into biological and physiochemical roles of these populations in phytoremediation.Microplastic accumulation in the soil may have a negative impact on environmental security and human health. We have proposed the new method to establish the Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM) model using THz spectral data to quickly detect the microplastic pollution level in the soil from different regions. The local model is based on local soil training data set to predict local microplastic pollution, for LDPE, the average correlation coefficient (R) is 0.9833, and the average root mean square error (RMSE) is 0.0050, whereas for PVC, the average R is 0.9686, and the average RMSE is 0.0071. However, it seems to be useful only for local regions. The multisource model is that nine training sets are combined into one training set to simultaneously predict the degree of microplastic pollution in each area, for LDPE, the average R is 0.9895, and the average RMSE is 0.0007, for PVC, the average R is 0.9831, and the average RMSE is 0.0009. Recently, it was demonstrated that MCLR exposure drives the progression of high fat/high cholesterol (HFHC) induced nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) to a more severe state. NAFLD is also a risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD), and the current study investigated MCLR renal toxicity in the context of an HFHC diet. Sprague Dawley rats were fed either a control diet or an HFHC diet for 10 weeks. After 6 weeks of diet, animals were administered either vehicle, 10 μg/kg, or 30 μg/kg MCLR via intraperitoneal injection every other day for 4 weeks. HFHC diet alone increased the renal glomerular change histopathology score, and 30 μg/kg MCLR exposure increased this score in both the control group and the HFHC group. In contrast, 30 μg/kg MCLR caused greater proteinuria and cast formation and decreased protein phosphatase 1 and 2A protein expression in the HFHC group. Urinary excretion of KIM-1 increased, but albumin and tamm-horsfall protein did not change after MCLR exposure. The general concordance between KIM-1, polyuria, proteinuria, and renal casts after MCLR exposure suggests that proximal tubule cell damage contributed to these connected pathologies. The control group adapted to repeated MCLR exposure by increasing the urinary elimination of MCLR and its metabolites, whereas this adaptation was blunted in the HFHC group. These data suggest an HFHC diet may increase the severity of certain MCLR-elicited renal toxicities.

Conclusion ATP use is common among critically ill patients despite them being generally older than traditional users. Survey self-responders were more likely than surrogate responders to report use. These findings highlight the importance of improving our current methods of surveillance of ATP use in older adults in the outpatient setting.In this work, we characterise the performance of a Sharp optical aerosol sensor model GP2Y1010AU0F. The sensor was exposed to different environments to a clean room, to a controlled atmosphere with known aerosol size distribution and to the ambient atmosphere on a busy city street. During the exposure, the output waveforms of the sensor pulses were digitised, saved and a following offline analysis enabled us to study the behaviour of the sensor pulse-by-pulse. A linear response of the sensor on number concentration of the monosized dispersed PSL particles was shown together with an almost linear dependence on particle diameters in the 0.4 to 4 micrometer range.     Healthcare systems worldwide adapt to patients' needs and expectations, following social evolutions. Pharmaceutical practice has shifted towards activities such as therapeutic education. Such new missions require to prioritize human and social sciences, which now play a predominant role in training.

    This work consists of assessing the contribution of human and social sciences to the field of pharmacy, with a twofold focus on practice and training.

    A literature review was carried out according to the PRISMA guidelines focusing on the last 10 years. Selected full texts were read and analyzed to elicit the contribution of human and social sciences to pharmacy.

    Overall 36 articles were included. Three specific topics were identified during an inductive process of full text analysis public health policy, patient care, and interprofessional collaboration.

    Although human and social sciences are essential to the evolution of the pharmacist profession, their impact on health care costs remains difficult to evaluate. Moreover, teaching human and social sciences can prove difficult to standardize. Such approaches must be supported and organized by governments and universities with a view of upscaling practices.

Plant associated microbes can help plants in acquisition of soil nutrients to enhance productivity in stressful conditions. The current study was designed to illuminate the effectiveness of desert rhizobacterial strains on growth and net-return of chickpeas grown in pots by using sandy loam soil of Thal Pakistan desert. A total of 125 rhizobacterial strains were isolated, out of which 72 strains were inoculated with chickpeas in the growth chamber for 75 days to screen most efficient isolates. Amongst all, six bacterial strains (two rhizobia and four plant growth promoting rhizobacterial strains) significantly enhanced nodulation and shoot-root length as compared to other treatments. These promising strains were morphologically and biochemically characterized and identified through 16sRNA sequencing. Then, eight consortia of the identified isolates were formulated to evaluate the growth and development of chickpea at three moisture levels (55%, 75% and 95% of field capacity) in a glass house experiment. The trend for best performing consortia in terms of growth and development of chickpea remained T2 at moisture level 1 > T7 at moisture level 2 > T4 at moisture level 3. These findings highlight the importance of improving our current methods of surveillance of ATP use in older adults in the outpatient setting.In this work, we characterise the performance of a Sharp optical aerosol sensor model GP2Y1010AU0F. The sensor was exposed to different environments to a clean room, to a controlled atmosphere with known aerosol size distribution and to the ambient atmosphere on a busy city street. During the exposure, the output waveforms of the sensor pulses were digitised, saved and a following offline analysis enabled us to study the behaviour of the sensor pulse-by-pulse. A linear response of the sensor on number concentration of the monosized dispersed PSL particles was shown together with an almost linear dependence on particle diameters in the 0.4 to 4 micrometer range. Such new missions require to prioritize human and social sciences, which now play a predominant role in training. This work consists of assessing the contribution of human and social sciences to the field of pharmacy, with a twofold focus on practice and training. A literature review was carried out according to the PRISMA guidelines focusing on the last 10 years. Selected full texts were read and analyzed to elicit the contribution of human and social sciences to pharmacy. Overall 36 articles were included. Three specific topics were identified during an inductive process of full text analysis public health policy, patient care, and interprofessional collaboration. Although human and social sciences are essential to the evolution of the pharmacist profession, their impact on health care costs remains difficult to evaluate. Moreover, teaching human and social sciences can prove difficult to standardize. Such approaches must be supported and organized by governments and universities with a view of upscaling practices. Plant associated microbes can help plants in acquisition of soil nutrients to enhance productivity in stressful conditions. The current study was designed to illuminate the effectiveness of desert rhizobacterial strains on growth and net-return of chickpeas grown in pots by using sandy loam soil of Thal Pakistan desert. A total of 125 rhizobacterial strains were isolated, out of which 72 strains were inoculated with chickpeas in the growth chamber for 75 days to screen most efficient isolates. Amongst all, six bacterial strains (two rhizobia and four plant growth promoting rhizobacterial strains) significantly enhanced nodulation and shoot-root length as compared to other treatments. These promising strains were morphologically and biochemically characterized and identified through 16sRNA sequencing. Then, eight consortia of the identified isolates were formulated to evaluate the growth and development of chickpea at three moisture levels (55%, 75% and 95% of field capacity) in a glass house experiment. The trend for best performing consortia in terms of growth and development of chickpea remained T2 at moisture level 1 > T7 at moisture level 2 > T4 at moisture level 3. The objective of the present study was to characterize and compare S. aureus isolates from healthy pigs, diseased pigs and environment through antimicrobial susceptibility testing, multiple locus sequence typing, spa typing, and antimicrobial resistance gene screening. Results showed all isolates were susceptible to linezolid and vancomycin. However, 66.7% (104/156) isolates were multidrug-resistant by displaying resistance to three or more antibiotics and high rates of resistance to penicillin, tetracycline, clindamycin, and clarithromycin were observed.
