These environments are the most affected by land-use change to intensive agriculture, being transformed into fully agricultural lands mostly devoted to soybean production. Therefore, future expansion of intensive agriculture may negatively affect the average reproductive parameters of American Kestrels, at least at a regional scale. In the current study, we tested whether individually-targeted high-definition transcranial direct current stimulation (HD-tDCS) can reduce MEG abnormalities and transiently improve language performance. In eleven chronic aphasia survivors, we devised a method to localize perilesional areas exhibiting peak MSE abnormalities, and subsequently targeted these areas with excitatory/anodal-tDCS, or targeted the contralateral homolog areas with inhibitory/cathodal-tDCS, based on prominent theories of stroke recovery. Pathological MEG slowing in these patients was correlated with aphasia severity. Sentence/phrase repetition accuracy was assessed before and after tDCS. A delayed word reading task was administered inside MEG to assess tDCS-induced neurophysiological changes in relative power and MSE computed on the pre-stimulus and delay task time windows. Results indicated increases in repetition accuracy, decreases in contralateral theta (4-7 Hz) and coarse-scale MSE (slow activity), and increases in perilesional low-gamma (25-50 Hz) and fine-scale MSE (fast activity) after anodal-tDCS, indicating reversal of pathological abnormalities. RsMEG may be a sensitive measure for guiding therapeutic tDCS.Diffusion broadening of spectral lines is the main limitation to frequency resolution in non-polarized liquid state nano-NMR. In this paper we focus on the biogeographic distribution of mammal species and human cultural diversity. We show that not only are these forms of diversity similarly distributed in space, but they both scale superlinearly with environmental production. We develop theory that explains that as environmental productivity increases the ecological kinetics of diversity increases faster than expected because more complex environments are also more interactive. Using biogeographic databases of the global distributions of mammal species and human cultures we test a series of hypotheses derived from this theory and find support for each. For both mammals and cultures, we show that (1) both forms of diversity increase exponentially with ecological kinetics; (2) the kinetics of diversity is faster than the kinetics of productivity; (3) diversity scales superlinearly with environmental productivity; and (4) the kinetics of diversity is faster in increasingly productive environments. This biogeographic convergence is particularly striking because while the dynamics of biological and cultural evolution may be similar in principle the underlying mechanisms and time scales are very different. Here, we showed that ASA and SA present anticancer effects against a murine model of implanted melanoma. These effects were also validated in 3D- and 2D-cultured melanoma B16F10 cells, where the drugs promoted pro-apoptotic effects. In both in vivo and in vitro models, SA and ASA triggered endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, which culminates with the upregulation of the pro-apoptotic transcription factor C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP). These effects are initiated by ASA/SA-triggered Akt/mTOR/AMPK-dependent activation of nitric oxide synthase 3 (eNOS), which increases nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species production inducing ER stress response. In the end, we propose that ASA and SA instigate anticancer effects by a novel mechanism, the activation of ER stress.

Trends in practice and scholarly inquiry indicate the need for robust pediatric IBH models, with a clear mission and vision; articulation of how research informs the development and implementation of the model; and infrastructure to meaningfully examine the model's impact. Cognizant of these needs, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center developed an IBH program. We provide key learnings for IBH program development, PPC transformation, and innovative systems redesign. We describe these elements and make recommendations for future research and practice. Prevalence rates of anxiety disorders and symptoms in primary care (PC) settings are very high. Behavioral health consultants in primary care behavioral health (PCBH) settings enable increased access to evidence-based anxiety treatment. Despite strong extant support for exposure-based therapy for anxiety disorders, the use of exposure to treat anxiety in PC settings is low. Although barriers to exposure therapy (ET) may be exacerbated in PC settings, many anxiety presentations in PC warrant an exposure-based approach to treatment. Thus, exploration of feasibility and efficacy of ET in PC represents a critical area for advancing evidence-based treatment of anxiety symptoms.
The current article addresses this gap through the presentation of two case examples of ET conducted in PCBH. Theoretical and practical information regarding the implementation of exposure using a brief (≤ 30 min), time-limited (4-6 visit) approached are presented.
Results from the case examples demonstrate feasibility of conducting exposure in a brief format consistent with a PCBH approach. Additionally, patient outcomes presented suggest that ET conducted in PCBH reduces anxiety symptoms and may facilitate referral to specialty care settings.

Due to the chronic and severe nature of this disease, families are often impacted by the stress associated with treatment, complications of the disease, and the understanding that their loved one will one day die from CF. This article seeks to address a perceived gap in the literature for providing a model-specific approach to address psychosocial stress in families affected by CF. We provide a rationale for using solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) to work with this population based on its empirically supported effectiveness, versatility, and capacity to be brief in nature. We describe how SFBT interventions can be used by practitioners working with this population, present a fictitious case illustration depicting the clinical use of specific SFBT interventions, and offer suggestions for future research. The current study aimed to assess perinatal depression (PD) screening and treatment practices of obstetrical health care providers.
Retrospective record reviews (
= 557) evaluated the PD screening, referral, and treatment practices at an Obstetrician/Gynecology practice. This study assessed the frequency of screening for PD, rates of elevated Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) scores, treatment recommendations, demographic correlates, and predictors of elevated EPDS scores.
PD screening completion rates were 60.1% (intake), 35% (glucola test), and 85.5% (6-week follow-up). Rates of clinically elevated EPDS scores were 18.21% (intake), 17.43% (glucola test), and 13.00% (6-week follow-up). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/gs-4224.html Correlates of clinically elevated EPDS scores at intake and 6-week follow-up were history of depression, history of anxiety, and young age. In Study 1 participants activated and maintained either arm flexion or arm extension, while facing a picture of an outgroup person wearing religious trappings. Thereafter, they filled a questionnaire which measured outgroup prejudice. Study 2 replicated this procedure while including a control condition of the arm, and measured intergroup anxiety in addition to prejudice. In the first study outgroup prejudice was significantly higher following arm extension in comparison with arm flexion. The second study revealed that the source of the arm activation effect was due to arm extension increasing prejudice rather than arm flexion reducing it. Moreover, a mediation effect was found Arm extension (vs. control) increased intergroup anxiety, which in turn was related to higher prejudice toward the outgroup. The results reveal embodiment effects by which temporary motor cues are related to visual religious cues leading to subsequent bias toward the outgroup.

Several enzymes are known to have evolved from non-catalytic proteins such as solute-binding proteins (SBPs). Although attention has been focused on how a binding site can evolve to become catalytic, an equally important question is how do the structural dynamics of a binding protein change as it becomes an efficient enzyme? Here we performed a variety of experiments, including propargyl-DO3A-Gd(III) tagging and double electron-electron resonance (DEER) to study the rigid body protein dynamics of reconstructed evolutionary intermediates to determine how the conformational sampling of a protein changes along an evolutionary trajectory linking an arginine SBP to a cyclohexadienyl dehydratase (CDT). We observed that primitive dehydratases predominantly populate catalytically unproductive conformations that are vestiges of their ancestral SBP function. Non-productive conformational states, including a wide-open state, are frozen out of the conformational landscape via remote mutations, eventually leading to extant CDT that exclusively samples catalytically relevant compact states. These results show that remote mutations can reshape the global conformational landscape of an enzyme as a mechanism for increasing catalytic activity.Interacting electrons confined to their lowest Landau level in a high magnetic field can form a variety of correlated states, some of which manifest themselves in a Hall effect. Although such states have been predicted to occur in three-dimensional semimetals, a corresponding Hall response has not yet been experimentally observed. Here, we report the observation of an unconventional Hall response in the quantum limit of the bulk semimetal HfTe5, adjacent to the three-dimensional quantum Hall effect of a single electron band at low magnetic fields. The additional plateau-like feature in the Hall conductivity of the lowest Landau level is accompanied by a Shubnikov-de Haas minimum in the longitudinal electrical resistivity and its magnitude relates as 3/5 to the height of the last plateau of the three-dimensional quantum Hall effect. Our findings are consistent with strong electron-electron interactions, stabilizing an unconventional variant of the Hall effect in a three-dimensional material in the quantum limit.The quick sequential organ failure assessment (qSOFA) score has been proposed as a means to rapidly identify adult patients with suspected infection, in pre-hospital, Emergency Department (ED), or general hospital ward locations, who are in a high-risk category with increased likelihood of "poor outcomes" a greater than 10% chance of dying or an increased likelihood of spending 3 or more days in the ICU. This score is intended to replace the use of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) criteria as a screening tool; however, its role in ED screening and identification has yet to be fully elucidated. In this retrospective observational study, we explored the performance of triage qSOFA (tqSOFA), maximum qSOFA, and first initial serum lactate (> 3 mmol/L) at predicting in-hospital mortality and compared these results to those for the initial SIRS criteria obtained in triage. A total of 2859 sepsis cases were included and the in-hospital mortality rate was 14.4%. The sensitivity of tqSOFA ≥ 2 and maximum qSOFA ≥ 2 to predict in-hospital mortality were 33% and 69%, respectively. For comparison, the triage SIRS criteria and the initial lactate > 3 mmol/L had sensitivities of 82% and 65%, respectively. These results demonstrate that in a large ED sepsis database the earliest measurement of end organ impairment, tqSOFA, performed poorly at identifying patients at increased risk of mortality and maximum qSOFA did not significantly outperform initial serum lactate levels.The Asbestos Injury Relief Act in Korea requires that asbestos exposure be assessed through clinical examination and chest computed tomography (CT). Several enzymes are known to have evolved from non-catalytic proteins such as solute-binding proteins (SBPs). Although attention has been focused on how a binding site can evolve to become catalytic, an equally important question is how do the structural dynamics of a binding protein change as it becomes an efficient enzyme? Here we performed a variety of experiments, including propargyl-DO3A-Gd(III) tagging and double electron-electron resonance (DEER) to study the rigid body protein dynamics of reconstructed evolutionary intermediates to determine how the conformational sampling of a protein changes along an evolutionary trajectory linking an arginine SBP to a cyclohexadienyl dehydratase (CDT). We observed that primitive dehydratases predominantly populate catalytically unproductive conformations that are vestiges of their ancestral SBP function. Non-productive conformational states, including a wide-open state, are frozen out of the conformational landscape via remote mutations, eventually leading to extant CDT that exclusively samples catalytically relevant compact states. In this retrospective observational study, we explored the performance of triage qSOFA (tqSOFA), maximum qSOFA, and first initial serum lactate (> 3 mmol/L) at predicting in-hospital mortality and compared these results to those for the initial SIRS criteria obtained in triage. A total of 2859 sepsis cases were included and the in-hospital mortality rate was 14.4%. The sensitivity of tqSOFA ≥ 2 and maximum qSOFA ≥ 2 to predict in-hospital mortality were 33% and 69%, respectively. For comparison, the triage SIRS criteria and the initial lactate > 3 mmol/L had sensitivities of 82% and 65%, respectively. In the group with the ACL tears, the rate of trochlear dysplasia was higher (15.45%) than that in the healthy group (4.5%). Considering strawberries, it is also important to preserve their high antioxidant activity. Hence, this work evaluated the efficiency of a coating based on native cassava starch (NCS), gelatin, and sorbitol, containing different concentrations of Tetradenia riparia extract, in delaying the ripening process of strawberries stored under refrigerated conditions, and in preventing bacterial growth and antioxidant activity losses. Both concentrations of extract (500 or 1000 μg mL-1) increased the thickness, opacity, and water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of the films when compared to the film without extract, but decreased the solubility. Even though the film without extract was expected to create a more efficient barrier to the coated fruits, the films containing the extract led to similar results of soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), and vitamin C. In this work we have quantitatively evaluated the porcine corneal stroma architecture treated with collagen crosslinking agents such as riboflavin solutions and açai extract, using second harmonic generation microscopy. Aimed at evaluating the morphological changes in the corneal stroma after collagen crosslinking under a CXL chemical agent, a tubeness filter based Hessian matrix to obtain a 3D fiber characterization of the SHG images was applied. The results showed a curling effect and shortening of the collagen fibers treated with açai as compared to the control. They also showed a higher degree of clustering of the collagen fibers with larger empty spaces when compared to the other two groups. It is challenging to manage the dispersibility of ZnO NPs in common solutions like water. Here, we report a novel method for preparing highly dispersible suspensions of ZnO NPs. In contrast to those synthesized by conventional methods, microwave assisted method allowed synthesis of dispersible ZnO NPs and the incorporation of zinc/Iron oxides NPs within alginate and gum matrix (AG) in a short span of time providing high yield of the product. The nanoformulations were characterized for size, morphology, interaction of various chemicals used during their synthesis by transmissible electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and energy dispersive X ray Spectrum. It was also evaluated for cytotoxicity and their effect on equine fibroblast cells. Microwave-assisted fabrication of zinc/iron oxides nanoparticles provided flowerlike morphology with good dispersibility and high yield in a short span of time. Hence, this work evaluated the efficiency of a coating based on native cassava starch (NCS), gelatin, and sorbitol, containing different concentrations of Tetradenia riparia extract, in delaying the ripening process of strawberries stored under refrigerated conditions, and in preventing bacterial growth and antioxidant activity losses. Both concentrations of extract (500 or 1000 μg mL-1) increased the thickness, opacity, and water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of the films when compared to the film without extract, but decreased the solubility. Even though the film without extract was expected to create a more efficient barrier to the coated fruits, the films containing the extract led to similar results of soluble solids (SS), titratable acidity (TA), and vitamin C. In contrast to those synthesized by conventional methods, microwave assisted method allowed synthesis of dispersible ZnO NPs and the incorporation of zinc/Iron oxides NPs within alginate and gum matrix (AG) in a short span of time providing high yield of the product. Despite the increased need for better cosmetic outcomes following parotidectomy, there is no study on the individualized use of esthetic approaches for parotidectomy. In the context of increasing antibiotic resistance, finding alternative treatments for UTIs is a top priority. We aimed to determine whether intravesical bacteriophage therapy with a commercial bacteriophage cocktail is effective in treating UTI.
We did a randomised, placebo-controlled, clinical trial, at the Alexander Tsulukidze National Centre of Urology, Tbilisi, Georgia. Men older than 18 years of age, who were scheduled for transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), with complicated UTI or recurrent uncomplicated UTI but no signs of systemic infection, were allocated by block randomisation in a 111 ratio to receive intravesical Pyo bacteriophage (Pyophage; 20 mL) or intravesical placebo solution (20 mL) in a double-blind manner twice daily for 7 days, or systemically applied antibiotics (according to sensitivities) as an open-label standard-of-care comparator. Urine culture was taken via urinary catheter at the end of treatment (ie, day 7) or at withdrawal from the trial.

The value of learning anatomy through cadaveric dissection is widely acclaimed; however, the demand for cadavers exceeds supply. For the number of donors to increase, there needs to be a broader understanding of what influences an individual's perception towards whole-body donation. The hypotheses were that individuals with a biomedical background or with higher levels of education would respectively have a more positive perception towards whole-body donation than those with an arts background or less education. Dissection experience was predicted to affect an individual's perception of whole-body donation negatively.
To assess perceptions of whole-body donation, an online questionnaire was created consisting of statements developed using Thurstone and Chave's method. After ethical approval, the survey was distributed to students, academics, businesses and charities. Responses were allocated a mean score based on agreed statements. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to assess significance.
Significant difositive perception of whole-body donation compared to graduates, there was no trend between level of education and score. Individuals with dissection experience didn't have a more negative perception of whole-body donation.Human anatomy is a core subject that students of all health degrees are required to pass. Practical classes with human cadavers are a widely used educational resource in medicine, but are less frequent in other health degrees. Determining how first-year podiatry, nursing, and physiotherapy students cope with human anatomy practical classes and identifying the presence of physical reactions and possible causes of distress they experience in the dissection room are essential steps in designing a guidance plan to address students' needs. A questionnaire was distributed to 172 first-year students in non-medical health degrees immediately after their first visit to the dissection room. The questionnaire comprised 29 Yes/No questions to determine students' physical reactions, causes of distress and coping methods. The most frequent physical reactions were disgust, uneasiness and nausea. The main causes of distress were the smell of the cadavers, the smell of the dissection room and the sight of the cadavers. The coping methods used were being with friends, eating before the practical class and practicing beforehand with anatomical atlases and CDs. No significant differences were found between gender and the three variables analyzed (number of physical reactions, number of causes of distress and number of coping methods) (p-value >0.216), although differences were found between the type of health degree and the number of physical reactions and causes of distress (p-values = 0.028 and 0.001, respectively).Spatio-temporal patterns in electroencephalography (EEG) can be described by microstate analysis, a discrete approximation of the continuous electric field patterns produced by the cerebral cortex. Resting-state EEG microstates are largely determined by alpha frequencies (8-12 Hz) and we recently demonstrated that microstates occur periodically with twice the alpha frequency. To understand the origin of microstate periodicity, we analyzed the analytic amplitude and the analytic phase of resting-state alpha oscillations independently. In continuous EEG data we found rotating phase patterns organized around a small number of phase singularities which varied in number and location. The spatial rotation of phase patterns occurred with the underlying alpha frequency. Phase rotors coincided with periodic microstate motifs involving the four canonical microstate maps. The analytic amplitude showed no oscillatory behaviour and was almost static across time intervals of 1-2 alpha cycles, resulting in the global patterce and its relation to the time scale of alpha oscillations. Here we investigate the spatial embedding of transcriptional patterns of over 1800 genes across seven time points through mouse-brain development using data from the Allen Developing Mouse Brain Atlas. We find that transcriptional similarity decreases exponentially with separation distance across all developmental time points, with a correlation length scale that follows a power-law scaling relationship with a linear dimension of brain size. This scaling suggests that the mouse brain achieves a characteristic balance between local molecular similarity (homogeneous gene expression within a specialized brain area) and longer-range diversity (between functionally specialized brain areas) throughout its development. Extrapolating this mouse developmental scaling relationship to the human cortex yields a prediction consistent with the value measured from microarray data. We introduce a simple model of brain growth as spatially autocorrelated gene-expression gradients that expand through development, which captures key features of the mouse developmental data. Determining how first-year podiatry, nursing, and physiotherapy students cope with human anatomy practical classes and identifying the presence of physical reactions and possible causes of distress they experience in the dissection room are essential steps in designing a guidance plan to address students' needs. A questionnaire was distributed to 172 first-year students in non-medical health degrees immediately after their first visit to the dissection room. The questionnaire comprised 29 Yes/No questions to determine students' physical reactions, causes of distress and coping methods. The most frequent physical reactions were disgust, uneasiness and nausea. The main causes of distress were the smell of the cadavers, the smell of the dissection room and the sight of the cadavers. The coping methods used were being with friends, eating before the practical class and practicing beforehand with anatomical atlases and CDs. No significant differences were found between gender and the three variables analyzed (number of physical reactions, number of causes of distress and number of coping methods) (p-value >0.216), although differences were found between the type of health degree and the number of physical reactions and causes of distress (p-values = 0.028 and 0.001, respectively).Spatio-temporal patterns in electroencephalography (EEG) can be described by microstate analysis, a discrete approximation of the continuous electric field patterns produced by the cerebral cortex. To understand the origin of microstate periodicity, we analyzed the analytic amplitude and the analytic phase of resting-state alpha oscillations independently. In continuous EEG data we found rotating phase patterns organized around a small number of phase singularities which varied in number and location. The spatial rotation of phase patterns occurred with the underlying alpha frequency. Phase rotors coincided with periodic microstate motifs involving the four canonical microstate maps. The analytic amplitude showed no oscillatory behaviour and was almost static across time intervals of 1-2 alpha cycles, resulting in the global patterce and its relation to the time scale of alpha oscillations. Here we investigate the spatial embedding of transcriptional patterns of over 1800 genes across seven time points through mouse-brain development using data from the Allen Developing Mouse Brain Atlas. We find that transcriptional similarity decreases exponentially with separation distance across all developmental time points, with a correlation length scale that follows a power-law scaling relationship with a linear dimension of brain size. This scaling suggests that the mouse brain achieves a characteristic balance between local molecular similarity (homogeneous gene expression within a specialized brain area) and longer-range diversity (between functionally specialized brain areas) throughout its development. Extrapolating this mouse developmental scaling relationship to the human cortex yields a prediction consistent with the value measured from microarray data. We introduce a simple model of brain growth as spatially autocorrelated gene-expression gradients that expand through development, which captures key features of the mouse developmental data. We used a multivariate Cox proportional hazards model to estimate the effect of prior functional status on time to all-cause death while controlling for measured confounding. Secondarily, we analyzed the effect of post-discharge functional decline on long-term outcomes.
297 patients were included in the present study. 12.8% died during hospitard of all-cause mortality during follow-up (Hazard Ratio [HR] 0.96; 95% Confidence Interval [CI] 0.94-0.98). Finally, functional decline measured at 15 days after hospital discharge, was associated with higher risk of all-cause death during follow-up (HR 2.19, 95% CI 1.09-4.37) Conclusion Pre-morbid functional status impacts long term outcomes after unplanned hospitalizations in elderly adults. Future studies should confirm these findings and evaluate the potential impact on clinical decision-making.

In this article, we present a case of lung adenocarcinoma that originated from a postoperative scar. We present a 62-year-old male patient who, while being studied for Paget's disease of bone, presented a 1.5 cm pulmonary nodule (SUV 1.6) as an imaging finding in the posterior segment of the left lung. He underwent a upper left lung segmentectomy.
During the routine follow-up of his underlying disease, 12 years after the original surgery, a pulmonary nodule was found. The particularity of the sample is based on the macroscopic observation of the tumor piece where the development of the neoplastic mass on the mechanical suture of the previous surgery performed 12 years ago is shown.

A cross-sectional and comparative study was conducted on 75 volleyball athletes, including 30 amateurs and 45 professional athletes. Female athletes 18 years of age or older were included. Urine loss during the competition was evaluated by self-report and measured by a pad test (in grams). Day-to-day urinary incontinence was identified using the Urinary Distress Inventory 6 (UDI-6). Before the beginning of the game, the instruments were applied by individual interview for data collection and the pad was positioned. Weight loss was not associated with reduced energy expenditure. In participants with type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes (n = 16), glycated haemoglobin fell from 50 to 43 mmol/mol (P less then .01). Systolic blood pressure fell by 12 mmHg (P less then .0001). Triglycerides fell by 0.37 mmol/L (P less then .01) and high-density lipoprotein rose by 0.08 mmol/L (P less then .01). Short Form-36 (SF-36) functioning and wellbeing scores increased in all domains post I-SatPro intervention.

Patients who did not achieve low disease activity after 3-4 months of MTX were randomized to addition of infliximab (n = 128) or SSZ and HCQ (n = 130). Participants were followed until death, emigration, or end of follow-up, whichever came first. Analyses were by intention-to-treat.
Over an average follow-up of 13 years, there were 13 and 16 deaths, respectively [8.8 vs 10.6 deaths per 1000 person-years; mortality hazard ratio 1.2 (95% CI 0.6, 2.5); P=0.62]. The 1-year mortality was 0.8% in both treatment arms, the 5-year mortality was 2.3% for the infliximab arm compared with 1.5% for the conventional combination treatment arm, while the 10-year mortality was 7.8% and 7.7%, respectively. After 5 years, ∼50% of patients in the conventional combination therapy arm had switched to biologic treatment, and 50% in the biologic arm had discontinued treatment with a biologic DMARD.
No difference in mortality risk could be observed over up to 14 years of follow-up between treatment strategy groups. At 5 years (3 years after trial cessation), 50% of patients remained on their assigned therapy, reflecting that DMARD combination is an adequate treatment strategy in 50% of patients.

These hot waters are rich in two species of fish of the Cyprinidae family that feed on the stratum corneum layer of patients with psoriasis. This treatment was later adapted to many spa resorts for "fish pedicure." In this article, we performed a review of the skin infections already reported, explaining why this procedure, performed usually during summer holidays by tourists, is not risk free and should be discouraged by health workers.
The primary objective of this investigation was to objectify perceived stresses of students enrolled at a US college of podiatric medicine.
Following preliminary pilot data collection and representative student interviews, the Perceived Stress Scale and a newly developed survey consisting of 46 potential stresses were administered to students. Participants were asked to identify up to ten items from the survey that caused them the most stress and to further identify up to three of these ten that they considered to be the most stressful.
A response rate of 71.5% (261 of 365) was observed. Specific results demonstrate that levels of perceived stress in podiatric medical students are higher than those in the general population, as well as some potential trends with respect to specific perceived stresses that change over time.

Insertional Achilles tendinopathy is a common complaint among patients. Oftentimes, conservative treatment is inadequate, and surgical treatment is required. However, there is no published consensus regarding surgical intervention in reference to insertional Achilles tendinopathy.
The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the surgical management of insertional Achilles tendinopathy and report which surgical procedures provide the greatest pain reduction and improvement in functional outcome. A review of PubMed, OVID, Google Scholar, and Cochrane Controlled Trials Register was performed using a defined search strategy and inclusion criteria.
Of 2,863 articles identified using the defined strategy, 20 met the inclusion criteria (three prospective and 17 retrospective). Operative interventions included Achilles tendon debridement, reattachment with suture anchors, reconstruction with flexor hallucis longus tendon autograft or bone-patellar tendon autograft, and gastrocnemius recession. All of the studies, regardless of intervention, showed generalized improvement after surgery.

Participants were asked to identify up to ten items from the survey that caused them the most stress and to further identify up to three of these ten that they considered to be the most stressful. A response rate of 71.5% (261 of 365) was observed. Specific results demonstrate that levels of perceived stress in podiatric medical students are higher than those in the general population, as well as some potential trends with respect to specific perceived stresses that change over time. The results of this investigation provide quantitative evidence of perceived levels of stress and specific stresses of students enrolled at a US college of podiatric medicine. We hope that these findings increase awareness of stress in podiatric medicine, lead to colleges of podiatric medicine taking active steps to improve student stress education, and lead to future investigations of stress and mental health in the field of podiatric medicine. Insertional Achilles tendinopathy is a common complaint among patients. Oftentimes, conservative treatment is inadequate, and surgical treatment is required. However, there is no published consensus regarding surgical intervention in reference to insertional Achilles tendinopathy. The purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the surgical management of insertional Achilles tendinopathy and report which surgical procedures provide the greatest pain reduction and improvement in functional outcome. A review of PubMed, OVID, Google Scholar, and Cochrane Controlled Trials Register was performed using a defined search strategy and inclusion criteria. Of 2,863 articles identified using the defined strategy, 20 met the inclusion criteria (three prospective and 17 retrospective). Operative interventions included Achilles tendon debridement, reattachment with suture anchors, reconstruction with flexor hallucis longus tendon autograft or bone-patellar tendon autograft, and gastrocnemius recession.
