Method 201A is designated as a standard test method in Korea, but it is difficult to measure PM10 and PM2.5 simultaneously owing to the size of the full-set cyclone. In large stationary emission sources, the use of a serial connection of PM10 and PM2.5 cyclones is unsuitable for measurements at conventional sampling ports featuring diameters of approximately 100 mm. Therefore, in this study, PM10 and PM2.5 cyclones were developed to replace the cyclones currently used in Method 201A. The developed cyclones featured a cutoff diameter, which was confirmed by numerical and experimental analyses that were close to Method 201A. Moreover, there was an increase in the stiffness of collection efficiency. The hook adaptor, which is a key accessory used in Method 201A, was found to be applicable to the newly developed cyclones. However, little is known about how sex steroids influence daily behavioral rhythms in wild organisms or what, if any, implication this may have for survival and reproductive fitness. Here we review the evidence that sex steroids modulate daily timing in vertebrates under controlled conditions. To investigate this, we analyzed cortisol and oxytocin metabolite concentrations from urine samples of hand-raised, pack-living domestic dogs and their non-domestic relatives, grey wolves. Based on the hypotheses outlined above, we predicted lower cortisol but higher oxytocin concentrations in dogs than wolves. In contrast to our prediction, we found higher cortisol concentrations in dogs than wolves. However, oxytocin concentrations were higher in dogs compared to wolves although the effect was relatively small. Indeed, male dogs had the highest oxytocin concentrations while female dogs' oxytocin concentrations were comparable to wolves'. Feeding status, reproductive phase, and conspecific social interactions also significantly affected cortisol and oxytocin concentrations. Furthermore, we compared two methods of correcting for variable water content of urine samples. We discuss our results in light of physiological and behavioral changes during domestication and highlight the importance of accounting for confounding variables in future studies.

  • I argue that none of the arguments are conclusive, and conclude that comprehension-based monitoring remains a viable account of self-monitoring in speaking.As all human activities, verbal communication is fraught with errors. It is estimated that humans produce around 16,000 words per day, but the word that is selected for production is not always correct and neither is the articulation always flawless. However, to facilitate communication, it is important to limit the number of errors. This is accomplished via the verbal monitoring mechanism. A body of research over the last century has uncovered a number of properties of the mechanisms at work during verbal monitoring. Over a dozen routes for verbal monitoring have been postulated. However, to date a complete account of verbal monitoring does not exist. In the current paper we first outline the properties of verbal monitoring that have been empirically demonstrated. This is followed by a discussion of current verbal monitoring models the perceptual loop theory, conflict monitoring, the hierarchical state feedback control model, and the forward model theory. Each of these models is evaluated given empirical findings and theoretical considerations. We then outline lacunae of current theories, which we address with a proposal for a new model of verbal monitoring for production and perception, based on conflict monitoring models. Additionally, this novel model suggests a mechanism of how a detected error leads to a correction. The error resolution mechanism proposed in our new model is then tested in a computational model.     To investigate the clinical and health care burden of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) in the United States.

    Retrospective, cross-sectional design with analyses of patient visits from 2 databases.

    National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS, 2012-2016) and State Ambulatory Surgery and Services Databases (SASD, 2012-2015) in available states.

    In each analysis, we identified patients (≥18 years old) with a diagnosis of CRSwNP (
    471.x;
    J33.x) in the visit record during the study period. CRS patients without polyps (CRSsNP
    473.x,
    J32.x; without CRSwNP codes) were identified for comparison. In the SASD, we focused on visits involving relevant sinus procedures. Outcomes included comorbidities, diagnostic testing, and prescribed medication (NAMCS) and surgery visit characteristics (SASD).

    We identified 2272 NAMCS records from physician offices (183 CRSwNP, 2089 CRSsNP). Most visits were for patients aged <65 years (78.8%, 80.6%) and privately insured (67.7%, 61.5%); CRSwNP visits had a male majority (56.3%, 35.4%). CRSwNP vs CRSsNP visits more often reported asthma (40.2%, 10.3%), allergic rhinitis (14.0%, 8.7%), and congestion (22.0%, 21.1%), with the use of glucocorticoids (21.0%, 17.7%) and nasal allergy medication (26.2%, 10.2%). In the SASD, 427,306 surgery visits were identified (71,195 CRSwNP, 356,111 CRSsNP); demographics were similar to NAMCS. CRSwNP surgeries involved more sinus types (59.3%, 41.4%). Surgeries were mostly elective (>99%) and completed quickly (<2 hours), without perioperative complications (>99%), followed by routine discharge (>91%); follow-up visits were common (14.9%, 13.9%).

Consequently, cells tightly control cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentrations using a complex array of Ca2+-selective ion channels, transporters, and signaling effectors. Ca2+ transport through various cellular membranes is highly dependent on the intrinsic properties of specific membrane compartments and conversely, local Ca2+ changes have profound effects on the membrane lipid composition of such membrane sub-domains. In particular, inositol phospholipids are a minor class of phospholipids that play pivotal roles in the control of Ca2+-dependent signaling pathways. In this review, we will highlight some of the recent advances in this field as well as their impact in defining future research directions.Heterotopic ossification (HO) in patients with spinal cord injury could lead to local tissue swelling and sometimes mimic the clinical presentation of deep vein thrombosis. We discuss the role of venography in the diagnosis and treatment of venous compression in the setting of HO.
    This study aims to describe chandelier assisted scleral buckle (CSB) using 3D visualizing system in phakic uncomplicated Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment (RRD).

    This technique was performed in 6 eyes of 6 patients with primary rhegmatogenous RD who underwent encircling circumferential scleral buckling with scleral tunnels. Heads up display 3D system was used for visualization and localization of the breaks, and Chandelier Endoillumination was used as a light source was inserted through a 27 G needle sclerotomy 3.5mm from the limbus. A partial-thickness scleral "belt-loop" tunnels in the four quadrants were created using crescent knife angle beveled (2.3 mm in width) to facilitate the smooth passage of the band a 240-silicone band as encircling circumferential buckle. Cryopexy was performed and the incision was closed with cautery or absorbable sutures.

    Primary attachment success of 5 out of 6 and overall success was 100%. No intraoperative or postoperative complications observed although fellows in training performed half the procedures.

  • Restoring partial flow of oxygenated blood is a fundamental goal of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The ideal devices used for this purpose should have features such as low incidence of complications, high survival rate, rapid control of the airway, and adequate ventilation. Besides limiting the frequency and duration of interruptions in chest compressions, they can improve the survival and clinical outcomes of return of spontaneous circulation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The overall rates of survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest have improved dramatically in recent years. However, optimal airway management during out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is a controversial issue. The proposed standard of care, i.e. endotracheal intubation, may have paradoxical adverse effects on intended outcomes by interrupting cardiopulmonary resuscitation and by reduction of coronary and cerebral perfusion pressure during resuscitation. The aim of this narrative review is to provide health care providers with an overview of relevant studies in the area, with a focus on alternative advanced airway techniques.
    Severe vitamin D deficiency in critically ill patients is linked to mortality. There are no scientific data regarding vitamin D status in critically ill patients undergoing continuous renal replacement therapies.

    We aimed to measure vitamin D serum levels in critically ill patients with multi-organ failure undergoing continuous renal replacement therapies. Vitamin D serum measurements in 12-hour time intervals were performed in 20 patients undergoing continuous renal replacement therapies through continuous veno-venous haemodiafiltration (the study group). The results were then compared with the historical control group (20 patients without renal replacement therapy).

    In the control group the median vitamin D level initially decreased, then stabilised around the fourth and fifth measurement, after which it appeared to increase unevenly. In the study group the median vitamin D level decreased considerably, and then stabilised around the third measurement. Although the differences between groups gradually increased for the last three measurements, there was insufficient evidence to indicate that they were statistically significant (P > 0.05). Significant correlations were found between the time of measurement and the level of vitamin D in the study (R = -0.31, P = 0.0002) and control groups (R = -0.18, P = 0.0341).

    A high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) is an alternative device for oxygena-tion, which improves gas exchange and reduces the work of breathing. Postextubation respiratory failure causes increased morbidity and mortality.     Nine patients showed severe acute respiratory failure and interstitial pneumonia due to SARS-CoV-2. After mechanical ventilation (5 Helmet CPAP, 4 invasive mechanical ventilation), they were de-escalated to HFNC. Settings were 34-37°C, flow from 50 to 60 L min-1. FiO2 was set to achieve appropriate SpO2.

    Nine patients (4 females; age 63 ± 13.27 years; BMI 27.2 ± 4.27) showed a baseline PaO2/FiO2 of 109 ± 45 mm Hg. After a long course of ventilation all patients improved (PaO2/FiO2 336 ± 72 mm Hg). Immediately after initiation of HFNC (2 hours), PaO2/FiO2 was 254 ± 69.3 mm Hg. Mean ROX index at two hours was 11.17 (range 7.38-14.4). It was consistent with low risk of HFNC failure. No difference was observed on lactate. After 48 hours of HFNC oxygen therapy (day 3), mean PaO2/FiO2 increased to 396 ± 83.5 mm Hg. All patients recovered from respiratory failure after 7 ± 4.1 days.

    HFNC might be helpful in weaning COVID-19 respiratory failure. Effectiveness and comfort should be assessed between 2 and 48 hours. Clinical outcomes, oxygenation, and ROX index should be considered, to rule out the need for intubation. Further evidence is required for firm conclusions.

    Restoring partial flow of oxygenated blood is a fundamental goal of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The ideal devices used for this purpose should have features such as low incidence of complications, high survival rate, rapid control of the airway, and adequate ventilation. Besides limiting the frequency and duration of interruptions in chest compressions, they can improve the survival and clinical outcomes of return of spontaneous circulation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The overall rates of survival from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest have improved dramatically in recent years. However, optimal airway management during out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is a controversial issue. The proposed standard of care, i.e. endotracheal intubation, may have paradoxical adverse effects on intended outcomes by interrupting cardiopulmonary resuscitation and by reduction of coronary and cerebral perfusion pressure during resuscitation. The aim of this narrative review is to provide health care providers with an overview of relevant studies in the area, with a focus on alternative advanced airway techniques. Severe vitamin D deficiency in critically ill patients is linked to mortality. There are no scientific data regarding vitamin D status in critically ill patients undergoing continuous renal replacement therapies. We aimed to measure vitamin D serum levels in critically ill patients with multi-organ failure undergoing continuous renal replacement therapies. Vitamin D serum measurements in 12-hour time intervals were performed in 20 patients undergoing continuous renal replacement therapies through continuous veno-venous haemodiafiltration (the study group). The results were then compared with the historical control group (20 patients without renal replacement therapy). In the control group the median vitamin D level initially decreased, then stabilised around the fourth and fifth measurement, after which it appeared to increase unevenly. In the study group the median vitamin D level decreased considerably, and then stabilised around the third measurement. Although the differences between groups gradually increased for the last three measurements, there was insufficient evidence to indicate that they were statistically significant (P > 0.05). Significant correlations were found between the time of measurement and the level of vitamin D in the study (R = -0.31, P = 0.0002) and control groups (R = -0.18, P = 0.0341). Nine patients showed severe acute respiratory failure and interstitial pneumonia due to SARS-CoV-2. After mechanical ventilation (5 Helmet CPAP, 4 invasive mechanical ventilation), they were de-escalated to HFNC. Settings were 34-37°C, flow from 50 to 60 L min-1. FiO2 was set to achieve appropriate SpO2. Nine patients (4 females; age 63 ± 13.27 years; BMI 27.2 ± 4.27) showed a baseline PaO2/FiO2 of 109 ± 45 mm Hg. After a long course of ventilation all patients improved (PaO2/FiO2 336 ± 72 mm Hg). Immediately after initiation of HFNC (2 hours), PaO2/FiO2 was 254 ± 69.3 mm Hg.   • Guidelines for image acquisition, associating minimum metadata to respect FAIR principles, and consistent head labelling methods are proposed when developing new head detection datasets. The GWHD dataset is publicly available at http//www.global-wheat.com/and aimed at developing and benchmarking methods for wheat head detection.The traits of rice panicles play important roles in yield assessment, variety classification, rice breeding, and cultivation management. Most traditional grain phenotyping methods require threshing and thus are time-consuming and labor-intensive; moreover, these methods cannot obtain 3D grain traits. In this work, based on X-ray computed tomography, we proposed an image analysis method to extract twenty-two 3D grain traits. After 104 samples were tested, the R2 values between the extracted and manual measurements of the grain number and grain length were 0.980 and 0.960, respectively. We also found a high correlation between the total grain volume and weight. In addition, the extracted 3D grain traits were used to classify the rice varieties, and the support vector machine classifier had a higher recognition accuracy than the stepwise discriminant analysis and random forest classifiers. In conclusion, we developed a 3D image analysis pipeline to extract rice grain traits using X-ray computed tomography that can provide more 3D grain information and could benefit future research on rice functional genomics and rice breeding.A soil coring protocol was developed to cooptimize the estimation of root length distribution (RLD) by depth and detection of functionally important variation in root system architecture (RSA) of maize and bean. The functional-structural model OpenSimRoot was used to perform in silico soil coring at six locations on three different maize and bean RSA phenotypes. Results were compared to two seasons of field soil coring and one trench. Two one-sided T-test (TOST) analysis of in silico data suggests a between-row location 5 cm from plant base (location 3), best estimates whole-plot RLD/D of deep, intermediate, and shallow RSA phenotypes, for both maize and bean. Quadratic discriminant analysis indicates location 3 has ~70% categorization accuracy for bean, while an in-row location next to the plant base (location 6) has ~85% categorization accuracy in maize. Analysis of field data suggests the more representative sampling locations vary by year and species. In silico and field studies suggest location 3 is most robust, although variation is significant among seasons, among replications within a field season, and among field soil coring, trench, and simulations. We propose that the characterization of the RLD profile as a dynamic rhizo canopy effectively describes how the RLD profile arises from interactions among an individual plant, its neighbors, and the pedosphere.Root distribution in the soil determines plants' nutrient and water uptake capacity. The RhizoVision Imager and RhizoVision Analyzer are free, open-source software that streamline image capture and image analysis with intuitive graphical user interfaces. The RhizoVision Analyzer was physically validated using copper wire, and features were extensively validated using 10,464 ground-truth simulated images of dicot and monocot root systems. This platform was then used to phenotype soybean and wheat root crowns. A total of 2,799 soybean (Glycine max) root crowns of 187 lines and 1,753 wheat (Triticum aestivum) root crowns of 186 lines were phenotyped. Principal component analysis indicated similar correlations among features in both species. The maximum heritability was 0.74 in soybean and 0.22 in wheat, indicating that differences in species and populations need to be considered.     Information on 1369 paediatric cases with COVID-19 from 8 December 2019 to 7 March 2020 in Hubei province was extracted from the National Infectious Disease Surveillance System. The analysis included epidemic curves, temporal-spatial distribution, clinical classification and interval times between onset and diagnosis.

    Among 1369 paediatric cases, the median age was 9 years and 58.2% of them were males. The proportion of severe and critical cases in children was lower than that in adults and the proportion of asymptomatic cases in children was five times greater than for adult cases. The first paediatric case was reported on 2 January 2020, and the daily number of new paediatric cases remained high from 1 February through to 22 February. The epidemiological curve of paediatric cases lagged behind that of adults by 19 days, and the first spike of the epidemic curve in senior high school students occurred 1 week earlier than in other paediatric groups. The proportion of clustered cases among children was about twice that for adults. The median of the interval in paediatric cases between onset and diagnosis, isolation and notification were 3, 0 and 3 days, respectively, and all of those were significantly shorter than in adults.

Abrasion of the seed coating generates insecticide-laden planter dust that disperses through the landscape during corn planting and has resulted in many "bee-kill" incidents in North America and Europe. We investigated the linkage between corn planting and honey bee colony success in a region dominated by corn agriculture. Over 3 yr we consistently observed an increased presence of corn seed treatment insecticides in bee-collected pollen and elevated worker bee mortality during corn planting. Residues of seed treatment neonicotinoids, clothianidin and thiamethoxam, detected in pollen positively correlated with cornfield area surrounding the apiaries. Elevated worker mortality was also observed in experimental colonies fed field-collected pollen containing known concentrations of corn seed treatment insecticides. We monitored colony growth throughout the subsequent year in 2015 and found that colonies exposed to higher insecticide concentrations exhibited slower population growth during the month of corn planting but demonstrated more rapid growth in the month following, though this difference may be related to forage availability. Exposure to seed treatment neonicotinoids during corn planting has clear short-term detrimental effects on honey bee colonies and may affect the viability of beekeeping operations that are dependent on maximizing colony size in the springtime.     In preclinical Ewing sarcoma (ES) models, poly(adenosine diphosphate ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors were identified as a potential therapeutic strategy with synergy in combination with cytotoxic agents. This study evaluated the safety and dosing of the PARP1/2 inhibitor niraparib (NIR) with temozolomide (TMZ; arm 1) or irinotecan (IRN; arm 2) in patients with pretreated ES.

    Eligible patients in arm 1 received continuous NIR daily and escalating TMZ (days 2-6 [D2-6]) in cohort A. Subsequent patients received intermittent NIR dosing (cohort B), with TMZ re-escalation in cohort C. In arm 2, patients were assigned to NIR (days 1-7 [D1-7]) and escalating doses of IRN (D2-6).

    From July 2014 to May 2018, 29 eligible patients (23 males and 6 females) were enrolled in arms 1 and 2, which had 7 dose levels combined. Five patients experienced at least 1 dose-limiting toxicity (DLT) in arm 1 (grade 4 [G4] neutropenia for >7 days or G4 thrombocytopenia), and 3 patients experienced at least 1 DLT in arm 2 (grade 3 [G3] colitis, G3 anorexia, or G3 alanine aminotransferase elevation). The epidemic curve of child cases lagged behind that of adult cases by 19 days, and the major form of transmission observed was in clusters.Most corn (Zea mays) seeds planted in the United States in recent years are coated with a seed treatment containing neonicotinoid insecticides. Abrasion of the seed coating generates insecticide-laden planter dust that disperses through the landscape during corn planting and has resulted in many "bee-kill" incidents in North America and Europe. We investigated the linkage between corn planting and honey bee colony success in a region dominated by corn agriculture. Over 3 yr we consistently observed an increased presence of corn seed treatment insecticides in bee-collected pollen and elevated worker bee mortality during corn planting. Residues of seed treatment neonicotinoids, clothianidin and thiamethoxam, detected in pollen positively correlated with cornfield area surrounding the apiaries. Elevated worker mortality was also observed in experimental colonies fed field-collected pollen containing known concentrations of corn seed treatment insecticides. We monitored colony growth throughout the subsequent year in 2015 and found that colonies exposed to higher insecticide concentrations exhibited slower population growth during the month of corn planting but demonstrated more rapid growth in the month following, though this difference may be related to forage availability. This study evaluated the safety and dosing of the PARP1/2 inhibitor niraparib (NIR) with temozolomide (TMZ; arm 1) or irinotecan (IRN; arm 2) in patients with pretreated ES. Eligible patients in arm 1 received continuous NIR daily and escalating TMZ (days 2-6 [D2-6]) in cohort A. Subsequent patients received intermittent NIR dosing (cohort B), with TMZ re-escalation in cohort C. In arm 2, patients were assigned to NIR (days 1-7 [D1-7]) and escalating doses of IRN (D2-6). From July 2014 to May 2018, 29 eligible patients (23 males and 6 females) were enrolled in arms 1 and 2, which had 7 dose levels combined. Study subjects included 80 healthy volunteers, 45 patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) without HCC, and 136 patients with HCC (stage 0, 12; stage A, 50; stage B, 31; stage C, 41; and stage D, 2), according to the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging system. For the assay, DNA was treated with methylation-sensitive restriction enzymes in two steps, followed by multiplex droplet digital polymerase chain reaction.     This project used the Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) tools to evaluate heart failure patient's experiences of dyspnea, fatigue, and physical mobility during initiation and up titration of drugs in an outpatient setting.

    Investigating patient reported outcome may improve adherence to GDMT. Theoretical support for this study is found in the University of California, Theory of Symptom Management.

    Exploratory, repeated measures design.

    Patients (n=21) completed three PROMIS questionnaires for dyspnea, fatigue and physical mobility when GDMT was started or up titrated, and again at a follow up appointment within 30days (+/- 14days) of the baseline measures. Patients were asked open- ended queries regarding the usefulness of these questionnaires in identifying and managing symptoms. Provider input was sought on usefulness of the tools in clinical practice and decision making.

    Dyspnea change scores significantly decreased (p=.001), physical mobility scores significantly increased (p=.017), and fatigue scores did not change (p=.319). Duration of HF diagnosis was associated with dyspnea change scores. Patients reported PROMIS tools were easy to use, while providers felt the tools were easy for patients to use but were too long and time intensive for usual office practice.

    Dyspnea and physical mobility improved with up titration of GDMT but fatigue did not change.

This project used the Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) tools to evaluate heart failure patient's experiences of dyspnea, fatigue, and physical mobility during initiation and up titration of drugs in an outpatient setting. Investigating patient reported outcome may improve adherence to GDMT. Theoretical support for this study is found in the University of California, Theory of Symptom Management. Exploratory, repeated measures design. Patients (n=21) completed three PROMIS questionnaires for dyspnea, fatigue and physical mobility when GDMT was started or up titrated, and again at a follow up appointment within 30days (+/- 14days) of the baseline measures. Patients were asked open- ended queries regarding the usefulness of these questionnaires in identifying and managing symptoms. Provider input was sought on usefulness of the tools in clinical practice and decision making. Dyspnea change scores significantly decreased (p=.001), physical mobility scores significantly increased (p=.017), and fatigue scores did not change (p=.319). Duration of HF diagnosis was associated with dyspnea change scores. Patients reported PROMIS tools were easy to use, while providers felt the tools were easy for patients to use but were too long and time intensive for usual office practice. Dyspnea and physical mobility improved with up titration of GDMT but fatigue did not change. PROMIS tools could be helpful in tracking selected symptom changes during GDMT HF medication initiation or up titration for HF management if reformulated into shorter format. (1) Determine the rate of completion of glucose screening for diabetes in the postpartum period for women who had gestational diabetes mellitus, and (2) compare the rates of follow up glucose screening among women who had A1GDM or A2GDM 4-12 weeks postoartum. A retrospective comparative study. An academic hospital in an urban community. One hundred and seventy-five women with gestational diabetes who gave birth between January 2012 and September 2015. The electronic medical record was reviewed to confirm diagnosis of gestational diabetes at 24-28 weeks and completion of 4-12 weeks postpartum glucose screening. All consecutive women meeting eligibility criteria were included. The rate of postpartum glucose screening was 38.9%. There were 22 (31.0%) women with A1GDM and 46 (44.2%) women with A2GDM who had postpartum glucose screening (χ  = 3.12, p = 0.08). The type of GDM, did not affect the rate of follow-up for postpartum glucose screening. Strategies need to be developed to improve postpartum screening rates in women with gestational diabetes.

    Critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who are unresponsive to maximum optimal ventilator settings may be in a prone position for at least 16 hours per day to improve oxygenation. This extended duration of prone positioning puts patients at risk of developing orbital compartment syndrome if direct pressure to the orbit and the globe occurs and concomitant protection of the eyes is not undertaken.

    To report 2 cases of orbital compartment syndrome, as well as optic disc edema and retinal hemorrhages, in the setting of prolonged prone positioning of patients in the intensive care unit during the COVID-19 pandemic.

These observations suggest awareness for the possible presence of these ophthalmic findings while treating severely ill patients with COVID-19.In April 2019, the US Food and Drug Administration, in conjunction with 11 professional ophthalmic, vision science, and optometric societies, convened a forum on laser-based imaging. The forum brought together the Food and Drug Administration, clinicians, researchers, industry members, and other stakeholders to stimulate innovation and ensure that patients in the US are the first in the world to have access to high-quality, safe, and effective medical devices. This conference focused on the technology, clinical applications, regulatory issues, and reimbursement issues surrounding innovative ocular imaging modalities. Furthermore, the emerging role of artificial intelligence in ophthalmic imaging was reviewed. This article summarizes the presentations, discussion, and future directions.
    Breathlessness is a frequent and debilitating symptom in patients with advanced cancer. Often, in the context of breathlessness, aggressive cancer treatment is not beneficial, feasible, or aligned with goals of care. Targeted symptom-focused interventions may be helpful in this scenario.

    PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched from inception through May 2020 for published randomized clinical trials (RCTs), nonrandomized controlled trials, and observational studies of the advantages and/or harms of nonpharmacological interventions on alleviating breathlessness in adults with advanced cancer. Only English-language studies were screened for eligibility, titles, abstracts, and full text. Risk of bias and strength of evidence (SOE) were independently assessed. The key outcomes reported in studies were breathled rehabilitation, behavioral and psychoeducational, and integrative medicine) (low SOE) lasting for a few weeks to months. Five of the 29 RCTs (17%) reported adverse events, although adverse events and study dropouts were uncommon.

    Findings of this review include the safety and association with improved breathlessness of several nonpharmacological interventions for adults with advanced cancer.     This cohort study used data from the Epidemiology of Hearing Loss Study (EHLS) and ****** Dam Offspring Study (BOSS), a pair of studies of adults in ****** Dam, Wisconsin. Baseline examinations occurred from 1993 to 1995 in the EHLS and 2005 to 2008 in BOSS, with two 5-year follow-up examinations in each cohort. This longitudinal cohort study assessed 3651 participants without HI at baseline who had follow-up data.

    The primary outcome was incident HI measured by pure-tone audiometry, defined as PTA greater than 25-dB hearing level (dB HL) in either ear. Associations of 5-year incidence were estimated by relative risks (RRs) and 10-year cumulative incidence wity be lower than current estimates suggest.
    In guinea pigs, choroidal thickness (ChT) and choroidal blood perfusion (ChBP) simultaneously decrease in experimental myopia, and both increase during recovery. However, the causal relationship between ChBP and myopia requires further investigation. In this study, we examined the changes of ChBP with three different antimyopia treatments. We also actively increased ChBP to examine the direct effect on myopia development in guinea pigs.

    Experiment 1 Guinea pigs wore occluders on the right eye for two weeks to induce form-deprivation myopia (FDM). Simultaneously they received daily antimyopia treatments peribulbar injections of atropine or apomorphine or exposure to intense light. Experiment 2 The vasodilator prazosin was injected daily into the form-deprivation eyes to increase ChBP during the two-week induction of FDM. Other FDM animals received appropriate control treatments. Changes in refraction, axial length, ChBP, ChT, and hypoxia-labeled pimonidazole adducts in the sclera were measured.

There is a gap in specific guidance for the faculty role in facilitating community-engaged volunteer service. METHOD A case study describes collaboration between two faculty members and a community RN to develop volunteer service weekend trips requested by undergraduate nursing students. They shared responsibilities for planning and offering the trips through a co-facilitator role based on community engagement principles. RESULTS The trip facilitators' collaboration resulted in a positive and productive community volunteer service experience for undergraduate nursing students. These posts then were discussed weekly in a classroom setting, with an emphasis on similarities and differences among news sources in content, tone, and theme. Faculty then detailed overarching policy, economics, and political processes. RESULTS Students became actively engaged and found policy relatable and relevant. RESULTS Thirty-one junior and senior nursing students (mean age, 21.04 ± 0.52 years, 96.2% female) in a baccalaureate program participated in the study. The broad themes of student reflections included empirics (theoretical or natural historical) aesthetics (transformative nursing action), personal (interpersonal process of nurse-patient interaction), and ethics (emotion influences actions). CONCLUSION Student perception and participation in all roles contributes to the gestalt of the experience of a highly emotional EOL simulation for both students and faculty. This study examined nursing students' attitudes toward and empathy for patients with SUD to determine whether there were differences across practice settings. METHOD Fifty-three students were surveyed before and after a 120-hour mentor-ship practicum; 25 students participated in focus groups. RESULTS Students' empathy scores improved significantly across all practice settings, and students' attitudes improved significantly in all settings except maternal child health. Qualitative analysis revealed themes related to perceived lack of educational preparation, observing generational differences in nursing care, transitioning from fear to empathy, familial exposure, and feelings of helplessness and blame.   • As per the ASTM F756 standard, ****** having low concentration showed optimum hemocompatibility with regard to the drug-eluting stent application as compared with magnolol and curcumin concentrations, which showed suboptimal hemocompatibility and fall in the range of mild-to-severe blood toxicity category. The structure of the coating films was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with results suggesting that there was no chemical bonding between the polymer and drug. Thus, according to this study, it can be concluded that after more detailed in vitro testing such as hemocompatibility tests and platelet adhesion testing, ****** can be a better candidate as a drug-coating material for drug-eluting stent applications.
    Retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) is a sensitive structure, which is affected by anaemia due to hypoxia. A timely detection of RNFL thinning may aid preventing devastating complications. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) measures RNFL thinning with accuracy and helps in detecting thinning of the retinal layer in anaemic patients. This study was destined to evaluate thinning of RNFL in anaemic patients and their correlation with the haemoglobin level.

    It was a prospective comparative study. Total of 151 patients were included in this study. Patients with retinal diseases were excluded from this study. After initial evaluation, haematological and ophthalmological parameters were measured. RNFL was measured with OCT and corroborated with the Hb level and analysed accordingly. EPI and SPSS softwares were used for detail analysis and the correlation between RNFL thinning and the Hb level. Initially, each eye was separately assigned a value (0, 1, and 2) (normal, borderline, and abnormal, respectively) as per the severity of thinning, and then, the sum of the scores of both eyes were considered as a separate variable, and a multiple linear regression analysis was performed with the independent variables.

    RNFL thinning was found to be significant in each group of patients. There was a strong correlation of RNFL thinning with degree of anaemia.
