To study the clinical features of very preterm small-for-gestational-age infants born by cesarean section due to severe preeclampsia.
Forty-two small-for-gestational-age infants who were admitted from August 2017 to July 2018 and were born due to severe preeclampsia were enrolled as the observation group. Forty very preterm infants who were born to healthy mothers since uterine contractions could not be suppressed were enrolled as the control group. Perinatal features, clinical manifestations of infection, complications, and clinical outcomes were analyzed for the two groups.
Within 6 hours and 2-3 days after birth, the observation group had significantly lower white blood cell count (WBC), absolute neutrophil count (ANC), and platelet count (PLT) than the control group (
< 0.05). At 5-7 days after birth, there was no significant difference in WBC between the two groups (
> 0.05), while the observation group still had significantly lower ANC and PLT than the control group (

Related data were collected from the infants and their mothers who were treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Qingdao Women and Children's Hospital, Qingdao University, from January 2018 to June 2020. According to the presence or absence of HCA and its stage, the infants were divided into four groups control (

=126), middle-stage HCA (
=105), and late-stage HCA (
=36). The four groups were compared in terms of gestational age, birth weight, sex, maternal age, placental abruption, prenatal use of antibiotics, and incidence rate of RDS. The correlation between HCA stage and RDS severity was analyzed.
Compared with the control and late-stage HCA groups, the early-stage HCA group had a significantly lower incidence rate of placental abruption and a significantly higher rate of prenatal use of antibiotics (
< 0.05), and the early-stage HCA group had a significantly lower incidence rate of RDS than the control group (
< 0.05). The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that early-, middle-, and late-stage HCA were protective factors against RDS (
< 0.05). The Spearman test showed that the severity of RDS in preterm infants was not correlated with the HCA stage (

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiological outcomes of acute posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) lesions in multiple injured knees that were surgically treated with internal bracing. METHODS Acute complete PCL lesions in multiple injured knees with subsequent internal-bracing treatment within 21 days between 2014 and 2016 were eligible for inclusion. At final follow-up, patients were assessed with Tegner, Lysholm, and IKDC scores. PCL stability and healing were verified with KT-2000, stress radiography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). RESULTS Fourteen patients [mean age 37.4 (± 17.8; SD) years] were evaluated after a mean follow-up of 19.9 (± 7.7; SD) months. Thirteen patients suffered complete lesions of the PCL with concomitant ligamentous injuries (Schenck I six cases, Schenck III M five cases, Schenck IV N one case, Schenck V one case). Median Tegner, mean Lysholm and mean IKDC scores at follow-up were 4 (2-7; interquartile range), 69.1 (± 16.6; SD) and 68.9 (± 18.1; SD) respectively. Posterior translation averaged 5.8 (± 2.2; SD) mm with the KT 2000 and stress radiography showed a mean posterior tibial translation of 5.5 (± 4.1; SD) mm in the side to side comparison. MRI showed adequate PCL healing. CONCLUSIONS Internal bracing as treatment for acute PCL ruptures in multiple injured knees showed adequate restoration of posterior tibial translation in a single-centre study including 14 cases. Biomechanical and clinical studies confirmed the benefits of concurrent anterior cruciate ligament and anterolateral ligament reconstruction. However, present techniques mostly use hamstring tendons autografts and therefore additionally disrupt the knee biomechanics. The plantaris tendon is a well known and accessible graft and has excellent biomechanical properties for anterolateral ligament reconstruction. The present paper describes a new combined anterior cruciate ligament and anterolateral ligament reconstruction technique using plantaris tendon and semitendinosus tendon.Level of evidence V (Case report).PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of English proficiency on abdominal MRI imaging quality. METHODS Three equal-sized cohorts of patients undergoing 3T abdominal MRI were identified based on English proficiency as documented in the EMR Primary language of English; English as a second language (ESL)/no translator needed; or ESL, translator needed (42 patients per cohort for total study size of 126 patients). Three radiologists independently used a 1-5 Likert scale to assess respiratory motion and image quality on turbo spin-echo T2WI and post-contrast T1WI. Groups were compared using Kruskal-Wallis tests. RESULTS For T2WI respiratory motion, all three readers scored the Translator group significantly worse than the English and ESL/no-Translator groups (mean scores across readers of 2.98 vs. 3.58 and 3.51; p values less then 0.001-0.008). The purpose of this article is to describe key findings to accurately stage prostate cancer with mpMRI and to describe the contexts in which mpMRI is best applied.Imaging plays an increasing role in prostate cancer diagnosis and staging. Accurate staging of prostate cancer is required for optimal treatment planning. In detecting extraprostatic cancer and sites of early recurrence, traditional imaging methods (computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, radionuclide bone scan) have suboptimal performance. This leaves a gap between known disease recurrence as indicated by rising prostate-specific antigen and the ability to localize the recurrence on imaging. Novel positron emission tomography (PET) agents including radiolabeled choline, fluciclovine (18F-FACBC), and agents targeting prostate-specific membrane antigen are being developed and tested to increase diagnostic performance of non-invasive prostate cancer localization. When combined with CT or MRI, these tracers offer a combination of functional information and anatomic localization that is superior to conventional imaging methods. These PET radiotracers have varying mechanisms and excretion patterns affecting their pharmacokinetics and diagnostic performance, which will be reviewed in this article.Foodborne pathogens have become ongoing threats in the food industry, whereas their rapid detection and classification at an early stage are still challenging. To address early and rapid detection, hyperspectral microscope imaging (HMI) technology combined with convolutional neural networks (CNN) was proposed to classify foodborne bacterial species at the cellular level. HMI technology can simultaneously obtain both spatial and spectral information of different live bacterial cells, while two CNN frameworks, U-Net and one-dimensional CNN (1D-CNN), were employed to accelerate the data analysis process. U-Net was used for automating cellular regions of interest (ROI) segmentation, which generated accurate cell-ROI masks in a shorter timeframe than the conventional Otsu or Watershed methods. The 1D-CNN was employed for classifying the spectral profiles extracted from cell-ROI and resulted in a higher accuracy (90%) than k-nearest neighbor (81%) and support vector machine (81%). Overall, the CNN-assisted HMI technology showed potential for foodborne bacteria detection.

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease which impacts millions of people around the world. In clinical treatments, freezing of gait (FoG) is used as the typical symptom to assess PD patients' condition. Currently, the assessment of FoG is usually performed through live observation or video analysis by doctors. Considering the aging societies, such a manual inspection based approach may cause serious burdens on the healthcare systems. In this study, we propose a pure video-based method to automatically detect the shuffling step, which is the most indistinguishable type of FoG. Firstly, the RGB silhouettes which only contain legs and feet are fed into the feature extraction module to obtain multi-level features. 3D convolutions are used to aggregate both temporal and spatial information. Then the multi-level features are aggregated by the feature fusion. Skip connections are implemented to reserve information of high resolution and period-wise horizontal pyramid pooling is utilized to fuse both global context and local features. To validate the efficacy of our method, a dataset containing 268 normal gait samples and 362 shuffling step samples is built, on which our method achieves an average detection accuracy of 90.8%. Besides shuffling step detection, we demonstrate that our method can also assess the severity of walking abnormity. It is found that the transient AS approach yields similar results to DAS, but it is one order of magnitude faster. Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disease which impacts millions of people around the world. In clinical treatments, freezing of gait (FoG) is used as the typical symptom to assess PD patients' condition. Currently, the assessment of FoG is usually performed through live observation or video analysis by doctors. Considering the aging societies, such a manual inspection based approach may cause serious burdens on the healthcare systems. In this study, we propose a pure video-based method to automatically detect the shuffling step, which is the most indistinguishable type of FoG. Firstly, the RGB silhouettes which only contain legs and feet are fed into the feature extraction module to obtain multi-level features. 3D convolutions are used to aggregate both temporal and spatial information. Then the multi-level features are aggregated by the feature fusion. Skip connections are implemented to reserve information of high resolution and period-wise horizontal pyramid pooling is utilized to fuse both global context and local features. Patients with rhinosinusitis, nasal polyps or asthma have a high risk of NSAID hypersensitivity. These patients turn out to have an increased risk to develop Barrett's esophagus, esophageal carcinoma or lung abnormalities like bronchiectasis. This is illustrated by three cases a 42-year-old man with an irresectable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma; a 23-year-old man with a Barrett's esophagus without any reflux complaints; and a 51-year-old women with a reflux esophagitis and extensive bronchiectasis due to a combination of gastroesophageal reflux with chronic aspiration and a reduced sputum clearance because of a history of tracheomalacia. It is important for healthcare providers to be aware of these risks and the possible absence of symptoms, in order to detect abnormalities at an early stage and improve quality of life of these patients.The World Health Organization launched a campaign on elimination of cervical cancer on November 17th 2020. Recent studies show that the use of oral glucose to prevent and treat neonatal hypoglycaemia leads to a decrease in intravenous glucose administration and fewer clinical admissions. However, oral glucose administration is still rarely used. In 2019 Isala hospital implemented the use of oral glucose in neonates with an increased risk of neonatal hypoglycaemia.
Retrospective evaluation study in Isala hospital between November 1, 2018 and December 31. Neonates with one of the following risk factors for neonatal hypoglycaemia prematurity (gestational age between 34+0-37+0), maternal diabetes requiring medication, asphyxia with an Apgar score <7 at five minutes and/or a birthweight <2500 grams. The frequency of glucose infusions, the lowest glucose value and the type of food were compared between neonates treated before and after the use of oral glucose.
The number of glucose infusions decreased after introduction of oral glucose (14.0% versus 5.9%, -8.1% [-14.1, -2.1]). The lowest measured glucose value (2.2 mmol/l versus 2.5 mmol/l, 0.3 mmol/l [0.15, 0.47]) was significantly higher after introduction of oral glucose. Mild complications (vomiting and food refusal) occurred in 3.8% of neonates receiving oral glucose, all without clinical consequence.

In daily practice it can sometimes be challenging to determine which policy is indicated. In this article, we propose tools in order to assist the primary care physician to determine which policy is needed in patients presenting with lymphadenopathy.
To describe the care which women with postpartum depression (PPD) in the Netherlands use for their complaints, and the impact of PPD on their general use of care for themselves and for their child, and on their participation in work.
The data came from the control group of a prospective comparative study on the effectiveness of screening for PPD within the setting of Youth Health Care.
We obtained data by means of two online questionnaires. Three weeks postpartum, we examined the background characteristics of the mother. Twelve months postpartum, we inquired about depression since birth, care use for depressive symptoms, general care use since birth for both mother and child, and participation in work up to 12 months postpartum. To test differences, we used chi-square and student t-tests.
Of the 1049 participating women, 99 (9.4%) indicated that they had experienced depression in the year since giving birth. Of the 99 'women with PPD', 71.0% made at least some use of care aimed at their PPD complaints.

Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) are a keystone predator of savanna systems in Africa, yet their populations have dramatically declined due to pressures such as human-wildlife conflict, loss of habitat, and most notably the illegal trade in live cheetah cubs as pets. We provide the most extensive dataset relevant to seized and non-intercepted illegal trade in live cheetahs and cheetah parts for the decade 2010-2019, spanning over 300 sources and 56 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Oceania and North America. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/c646.html It includes 1,884 individual incidents involving at least 4,000 cheetahs or cheetah parts or products likely or confirmed to breach national laws or CITES regulations. Cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) are a keystone predator of savanna systems in Africa, yet their populations have dramatically declined due to pressures such as human-wildlife conflict, loss of habitat, and most notably the illegal trade in live cheetah cubs as pets. This review provides an overview of both well established and emerging predictors of disability worsening, including clinical factors, imaging factors, biomarkers and treatment strategies.
In addition to well known clinical predictors (age, male sex, clinical presentation, relapse behaviour), smoking, obesity, vascular and psychiatric comorbidities are associated with subsequent disability worsening in persons with MS. A number of imaging features are predictive of disability worsening and are present to varying degrees in relapsing and progressive forms of MS. These include brain volumes, spinal cord atrophy, lesion volumes and optical coherence tomography features. Cerebrospinal and more recently blood biomarkers including neurofilament light show promise as more easily attainable biomarkers of future disability accumulation. Importantly, recent observational studies suggest that initiation of early-intensive therapy, as opposed to escalation based on breakthrough disease, is associated with decreased accumulation of disability overall, although randomized controlled trials investigating this question are underway.
Understanding risk factors associated with disability progression can help to both counsel patients and enhance the clinician's availability to provide evidence-based treatment recommendations.

Chronic skin disease (CSD) often has physiological, psychological, and social impacts, which requires the patient to adjust to achieve psychosocial adaptation (PSA). As a standardized assessment instrument was lacking, we developed a PSA questionnaire for patients with CSD (PSAQ-CSD).
According to the steps of questionnaire development, a systematic process of scoping review, qualitative research, content validity expert review, testing in a sample of 321 adults, item analysis, and classical test theory methods were applied.
Following item analysis and exploratory factor analyses, 18 items were eventually entered into the model of confirmatory factor analyses, with a cumulative contribution of 65.435%. Three subscales were developed emotional, self-cognitive, and social dimensions. Item analysis, exploratory factor analyses, and content validity expert review narrowed the subscales to 8, 6, and 4 items, respectively.
The 18-item PSAQ-CSD has been confirmed to have good internal consistency reliability and convergent and discriminant validity. It may be a useful tool to evaluate the PSA among patients with CSD and provide a basis for further research.

Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) is currently considered as an alternative to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt systems in the treatment of obstructive hydrocephalus. This procedure allows the CSF to drain in the basal cisterns and reabsorbed by arachnoid granulations, and avoiding implantation of exogenous material.
The purpose of this study was to assess the success rate of ETV in infants less than 1 year of age with congenital noncommunicating hydrocephalus.
This study was a 2-year prospective study from August 2017 to July 2019. ETVs were performed in 14 patients younger than 1 year with diagnosis of noncommunicating hydrocephalous. A failure was defined as the need for shunt implantation after ETV. Phase-contrast MRI of the brain was done after 6 months to see patency of ETV fenestration and CSF flow through ventriculostomy.
ETV was tried in 18 patients and successfully performed in 14 patients. Out of the 14 patients, shunt implantation after ETV was performed in 3 patients (failed ETV). In the successful cases, etiology was idiopathic aqueductal stenosis in 8, shunt complications in 2, and 1 case was a follow-up case of occipital encephalocele; the mean age was 7.7 months (range 3-12). We investigated whether elevated preoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cortisol levels are associated with the onset of postoperative delirium.
In a prospective cohort study CSF samples were collected after cannulation for the introduction of spinal anesthesia of 75 patients aged 75 years and older admitted for surgical repair of acute hip fracture. Delirium was assessed with the confusion assessment method (CAM) and the Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98 (DRS-R98). Because the CAM and DRS-R98 were available for time of admission and 5 postoperative days, we used generalized estimating equations and linear mixed modeling to examine the association between preoperative CSF cortisol levels and the onset of postoperative delirium.
Mean age was 83.5 (SD 5.06) years, and prefracture cognitive decline was present in one-third of the patients (24 [33%]). Postoperative delirium developed in 27 (36%) patients. We found no association between preoperative CSF cortisol levels and onset or severity of postoperative delirium.

The purpose of the present study was to determine the possible effect of allergic rhinitis (AR) on voice change in children with acoustic analysis and Turkish children's voice handicap index-10 (TR-CVHI-10).
This is a case-control study. Forty-one children with AR, and a positive skin ***** test, as well as 39 children of controls who had produced a negative skin ***** test and lacked a history of allergic disease, were selected for the study. Each assessment included recordings for the purposes of acoustic voice analysis (fundamental frequency [f0], jitter %, shimmer %, and harmonics-to-noise ratio (HNR)), and aerodynamic analysis (maximum phonation time (MPT) and s/z ratio). All participants completed TR-CVHI-10.
The mean TR-CVHI-10 score of the AR group was significantly higher than the control group (p = 0.013). No difference was observed between the AR and control groups in terms of jitter, shimmer, HNR, and MPT values and s/z ratio (p > 0.05). Conversely, the f0 value was more pronounced in controls (270.9 ± 60.3 Hz) than in the AR group (237.7 ± 54.3 Hz) (p = 0.012).

Ageing, depression, and neurodegenerative disease are common risk factors for delirium in the elderly. These risk factors are associated with dysregulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, resulting in higher levels of cortisol under normal and stressed conditions and a slower return to baseline. We investigated whether elevated preoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cortisol levels are associated with the onset of postoperative delirium. In a prospective cohort study CSF samples were collected after cannulation for the introduction of spinal anesthesia of 75 patients aged 75 years and older admitted for surgical repair of acute hip fracture. Delirium was assessed with the confusion assessment method (CAM) and the Delirium Rating Scale-Revised-98 (DRS-R98). Because the CAM and DRS-R98 were available for time of admission and 5 postoperative days, we used generalized estimating equations and linear mixed modeling to examine the association between preoperative CSF cortisol levels and the onset of postoperative delirium. Mean age was 83.5 (SD 5.06) years, and prefracture cognitive decline was present in one-third of the patients (24 [33%]). Postoperative delirium developed in 27 (36%) patients. We found no association between preoperative CSF cortisol levels and onset or severity of postoperative delirium. These findings do not support the hypothesis that higher preoperative CSF cortisol levels are associated with the onset of postoperative delirium in elderly hip fracture patients. This is a case-control study. Forty-one children with AR, and a positive skin prick test, as well as 39 children of controls who had produced a negative skin prick test and lacked a history of allergic disease, were selected for the study. Each assessment included recordings for the purposes of acoustic voice analysis (fundamental frequency [f0], jitter %, shimmer %, and harmonics-to-noise ratio (HNR)), and aerodynamic analysis (maximum phonation time (MPT) and s/z ratio). All participants completed TR-CVHI-10. The mean TR-CVHI-10 score of the AR group was significantly higher than the control group (p = 0.013). No difference was observed between the AR and control groups in terms of jitter, shimmer, HNR, and MPT values and s/z ratio (p > 0.05). A single-blind, four-arm parallel pilot RCT was conducted in 62 overweight and obese (30.4 ± 4 kg/m2) older participants (mean ± standard deviation (SD), 66 ± 4 years). Participants were randomized to (1) high-NO3- (HN 2 × 70 mL BJ/day) (2) medium-NO3- (MN 70 mL BJ/day), (3) low-NO3- (LN 70 mL BJ on alternate days) or (4) Placebo (PL 70 mL of NO3--depleted BJ on alternate days), for 13 weeks. Compliance was checked by a daily log of consumed BJ, NO3- intake, and by measuring NO3- and NO2- concentrations in plasma, saliva, and urine samples. Fifty participants completed the study. Self-reported compliance to the interventions was >90%. The severity gradations of the FAST were defined by the congruence between two grading methods linear regression analysis (LRA) and percentiles. The FAST showed strong psychometric properties. LRA with the GAF scores yielded the following equation GAFscore= 80.83 - 0.639*FASTscore. The FAST ranges in non-affective FEP patients derived from LRA and percentiles, were as follows 0-9 (No impairment); 10-19 (Minimal impairment); 20-34 (Mild impairment); 35-45 (Moderate impairment); 46-72 (Severe impairment). Patients with no functional impairment had a higher socioeconomic status, fewer depressive and negative symptoms, lower severity of illness and higher cognitive reserve level than the others groups. In conclusion, the FAST shows optimal psychometric properties which corroborate its applicability in FEP populations. It is a well-demonstrated valid instrument and the present cut-off scores could be implemented in clinical and research practice to assess properly the psychosocial functional outcome of non-affective FEP populations.
Hip motion in the transverse plane is coupled with foot motion in the frontal plane during closed kinematic activities, such as gait. Considering that movement patterns and bone alignment might influence passive mechanical properties of joints in the long term, it is possible that hip passive stiffness and foot complex stiffness and alignment are related to each other.
To investigate whether hip passive stiffness, midfoot passive stiffness and shank-forefoot alignment are related to each other.
Thirty healthy adult individuals with a mean age of 25.4 years participated (18 women and 12 men). The Foot Torsimeter was used to measure midfoot stiffness, and hip stiffness and foot alignment were measured using clinical measures. Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients were calculated to test the associations between each pair of variables, with α = 0.05.
Hip stiffness was positively correlated with midfoot absolute stiffness (r = 0.41, p = 0.02), indicating that increased hip stiffness is associated with increased midfoot stiffness. There were no associations between shank-forefoot alignment and the other variables.
In clinical settings, individuals with reduced hip passive stiffness may also have reduced midfoot passive stiffness, and vice versa. Shank-forefoot alignment is not linearly associated with hip or midfoot passive stiffness.

Alfaxalone is a popular veterinary anesthetic; however, research on this anesthetic in snakes has been limited to ball pythons, garter snakes and several Australian species. The objective was to evaluate the anesthetic effects of alfaxalone in corn snakes (Pantherophis guttatus), a popular pet snake.
Prospective, randomized crossover study.
A total of eight corn snakes.
In phase I, snakes were subcutaneously administered three doses of alfaxalone (5, 10 and 15 mg kg
) in the cranial third of the body to determine the most effective dose. In phase II, a dose of 15 mg kg
was administered in the cranial and caudal thirds of the snakes to determine if injection site affected anesthesia duration. Heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (f
), righting reflex, escape response, tail pinch, needle ***** and tongue flick were monitored at baseline and 5 minute intervals until the snakes fully recovered.
Duration of anesthesia differed significantly, with higher doses lasting longer than lower doses 5 mg kg

We were also interested in defining more in detail correlation between genotype and neuropsychological phenotype. Thirty-three of the previous 40 subjects (mean age at follow up 10 years and 7 months) agreed to participate in the follow up study and to perform the new assessment. The results confirm a typical neuropsychological profile, with difficulty in the manipulation of stored information, poor abstract reasoning and planning capacity and impulsiveness, supporting the involvement of a cerebellar striatal cortical network for these children. The more detailed description of subgroups of subjects, according to the real expression of Dp140, let to reveal possible genotype-neuropsychological phenotype correlations, and a more general neuropsychological impairment emerged in boys without Dp140 expression.

Based on these results, alfaxalone (15 mg kg-1) provides adequate anesthesia for brief procedures or intubation; however, additional analgesia is required for painful procedures.The aim of the study was to re-assess neuropsychological profile in a group of boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy without intellectual disability and neuropsychiatric disorder three years apart from a previous evaluation, to establish possible changes over time. Implementation of guidelines to reduce the amount of biodegradable municipal waste (BMW) sent to landfill has created a need in the waste-management industry to investigate possible methods of accelerating biostabilisation of residual BMW. The effect of commercially feasible manipulations (lime and green waste (GW)) on the rate of biostabilisation of the fine ( less then 20 mm) fraction of residual BMW was investigated. The physical and chemical attributes of the composted wastes were measured, and their bacterial communities profiled using traditional culture-based methods. In addition, ammonia-oxidising microbes were monitored during the biostabilisation process using molecular profiling methods. Addition of GW accelerated biostabilisation, reduced conductivity and increased the levels of ammonia-oxidising bacterial (AOB) and archaeal (AOA) genes. The best stability was noted in the dual (Lime + GW) treatment, which was under the limit of 13 mmol O2 kg DM-1 h-1 recommended by the Irish compost standard. Biostabilised wastes met recommendations for source-segregated compost for pH (6-8) and pathogens (E. coli and Salmonella), but not heavy metals, indicating their unsuitability for uses other than landfill cover. Marginal bone level alterations from loading to 1-year follow-up was -0.02 ± 0.41 mm (mean ± SD) and -0.03 ± 0.38 mm (mean ± SD) for the test and the control group, respectively, indicating no difference between the groups. Non-inferiority was declared as confidence interval for the difference between control and test implants was no worse than 0.5 mm. The CSR was 98.8% in the test group and 100% in the control group, with no statistically significant difference between the groups. All day 38 samples were tested using 2 antigen ELISAs and RT-rtPCR, and any calf that tested positive by any of these tests was blood sampled at ~100 d old (day 100) for antigen and antibody testing by ELISA; samples collected on days 3, 10, and 24 were tested using the antigen ELISAs and PCR. Calves were defined as PI if they were test-positive on day 38 by either ELISA or PCR and were antigen-positive on day 100. Twenty-six calves were PCR BVDV test-positive and one was BVDV PI X2 ELISA-positive at day 38. Five calves were defined as PI, and all tested positive by ELISAs and RT-PCR assay on days 3, 10, and 24. Exploring two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) systems is at the forefront of materials of physics. Here, through molecular beam epitaxy on graphene-covered SiC(0001), we report successful growth of AlSb in the double-layer honeycomb (DLHC) structure, a 2D vdW material which has no direct analogue to its 3D bulk and is predicted to be kinetically stable when freestanding. The structural morphology and electronic structure of the experimental 2D AlSb are characterized with spectroscopic imaging scanning tunneling microscopy and cross-sectional imaging scanning transmission electron microscopy, which compare well to the proposed DLHC structure. The 2D AlSb exhibits a band gap of 0.93 eV versus the predicted 1.06 eV, which is substantially smaller than the 1.6 eV of bulk. We also attempt the less-stable InSb DLHC structure; however, it grows into bulk islands instead. The successful growth of a DLHC material here demonstrates the feasibility for the realization of a large family of 2D DLHC traditional semiconductors with characteristic excitonic, topological, and electronic properties.Ice adhesion on aerospace-relevant materials is both complex and not well understood. Measuring such adhesion and understanding the underlying physics involved require reliable testing techniques that can yield multifaceted data sets. The latter includes the surface morphology, that is, roughness, and its spatial correlation structure, resolving substrate-induced strain, and direct mechanical testing of adhesion. As part of a continuing investigation of ice adhesion on a relevant surface, we performed time-dependent stress ramps on aluminum surfaces. The temperature range explored, from -20 to -7 °C, allowed spontaneous icing and ice morphologies, namely, below or above -15 °C. Additionally, we characterized the spatial correlation surface roughness maps of the specimens. Our novel test protocol yields reproducible and high-precision results when compared with alternative methods reported throughout the literature. The stress-ramp test data using the proposed protocol show that the apparent average critical stress (proportional to the adhesion strength) depends on both stress-ramp rate and temperature. More specifically, the adhesion strength is higher for higher stress rates and increases with decreasing temperature. The stress-ramp test yields the full span of the time-dependent adhesive behavior of ice and particularly the upper bound. Additional stress-concentration analysis is needed to correct for this effect and thereby yield the critical stress rather than the average value produced by our procedure. Their electrochemical performance highly depends on their average and local structures, such as phase purities, lattice parameters, and cation sites. Thus, a synthesis protocol should be designed to control these structural parameters to improve their electrochemical performance. In this study, we controlled the average and local structures of Li0.9Mn1.6Ni0.4O4 spinels obtained by co-precipitation by optimizing their cooling rates. High-resolution techniques, including transmission electron microscopy, synchrotron X-ray diffraction, and Auger-composition analysis combined with density functional theory calculations, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and electrochemical analysis, were used to understand the average and local structural variations and their effects on the electrochemical properties.
