    The Stents Coated With the Biodegradable Polymer on Their Abluminal Faces and Elution of Sirolimus Versus Biolimus Elution for the Treatment of de Novo Coronary Lesions - DESTINY Trial is a non-inferiority randomized study that compared the Inspiron™ sirolimus-eluting stent (SES) with the control Biomatrix™ Flex biolimus-eluting stent (BES). Previous reports in the first year showed similar outcomes for both stents, in clinical, angiographic, optical coherence tomography, and intravascular ultrasound assessments.     The incidence and prevalence of pressure ulcers in critically ill patients in intensive care units (ICUs) remain high, despite the wealth of knowledge on appropriate prevention strategies currently available.

    The primary objective of this systematic review was to examine the economic impact of pressure ulcers (PU) among adult intensive care patients. A systematic review was undertaken, and the following databases were searched; Medline, Embase, CINAHL, and The Cochrane Library. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines was used to formulate the review. Quality appraisal was undertaken using the Consensus on Health Economic Criteria (CHEC)-list. Data were extracted using a pre-designed extraction tool, and a narrative analysis was undertaken.

    Seven studies met the inclusion criteria. Five reported costs associated with the prevention of pressure ulcers and three explored costs of treatment strategies. Structural and functional imaging combined can aid differential diagnosis and help to discriminate DLB or FTLD from other forms of dementia. Imaging of DLB involves the use of 123I-FP-CIT SPECT and 123I-metaiodobenzylguanidine (123I-MIBG), both of which have an established role distinguishing DLB from AD. AD is also characterised by more pronounced atrophy of the medial temporal lobe structures when compared to DLB and these can be assessed at MR using the Medial Temporal Atrophy Scale. 18F-FDG-PET is used as a supportive biomarker for the diagnoses of DLB and can distinguish DLB from AD with high accuracy. Polysomnography and electroencephalography also have established roles in the diagnoses of DLB. FTLD is a heterogenous group of neurodegeneraoth conditions demonstrate a wide range of heterogeneity. A combined approach of structural and functional imaging improves diagnostic accuracy in both conditions.Aloe leaf latex is a commonly used plant preparation in traditional medicine. However, quality control on the content of medicinally important constituents is often limited. Hence, establishing a reliable quality control method to identify and quantify bioactive markers is important to ensure safety and efficacy. In the present study, a novel liquid chromatographic (LC) method was developed and validated for efficient analysis of bioactive markers to evaluate the quality of aloe leaf latex. Quantification of marker compounds was possible in only 7 min on a monolithic column using gradient elution with 0.1 % formic acid in acetonitrile and water as mobile phases. The major compounds (aloins A and B) could be baseline separated together with related compounds within 10 min. The method showed excellent linearity with determination coefficients (r2) of 0.9999. Detection limits were 0.017 and 0.013 μg/mL, while quantification limits were 0.057 and 0.043 μg/mL for aloin A and aloin B, respectively. Relative standard deviation (RSD) values for intra- and inter-day precision were less than 2% and recoveries for both aloins were close to 100 %. The robustness was evaluated using an experimental design. The method was applied to some aloe leaf latex samples from Ethiopia. Aloin contents varied from 14 to 35 % and two unknown peaks were tentatively identified as aloinoside and microdontin.

  • The development of a pharyngoesophageal stricture shows consistent negative association with woody hardness despite most analyses not reaching statistical significance. These associations are robust to a number of confounding variables in multivariate logistic and time to event analyses. Furthermore, the time to event analysis controlling for squamous cell carcinoma diagnosis led to a statistically significant association between woody hardness (i.e., A/B higher risk) and time to stricture (HR=5, p=0.02).

    This study suggests that this classification may be useful in predicting pharyngoesophageal stricture formation in salvage laryngectomy patients and could be used to implement stricture preventive measures.

    We evaluated microwave ablation (MWA) for treatment of isolated pharyngeal benign lesions, in terms of technical feasibility, efficacy, and safety.

    The patients with pharyngeal benign lesions were treated with endoscopic MWA with a 2450-MHz single cooled-shaft microwave antenna and sent for histological examination. Postoperative pain intensity was measured via visual analogue scale (VAS) on the 12th hour and the third postoperative days.

    Of the 137 patients with pharyngeal benign lesions who met the inclusion criteria. The most commonly involved site was the uvula (n=66, 48.2%), followed by the lateral pharyngeal wall (n=37, 27.0%), the nasopharyngeal posterior wall (n=23, 16.8%) and the soft palate (n=11, 8.0%). All of the procedures were completed using local anesthesia and were well-tolerated by the patients. The ablation time was 5-10min, with an average duration of 6.3±1.8min. The most common pathology was papilloma (n=96, 70.1%), followed by nasopharyngeal cysts (n=21, 15.3%), polyp (n=10, 7.3%),tients well-tolerate the procedure, which may be performed under local anesthesia in the outpatient setting.Insecticide formulations can cause mortality in natural enemies or have sublethal effects on them, which include alterations in their behaviour and development. Here, we investigated the effect of a bioinsecticide (azadirachtin) and predator cues on mating in a biocontrol spider, Philodromus cespitum. Firstly, adult males were exposed to cues from ants (as predators) or conspecific juveniles (as controls) and those from virgin adult females combined with insecticide residues and we then recorded their selection of the respective surfaces. In an insecticide-free environment, males spent significantly more time on the surface with cues from juveniles and virgin females than on the surface with cues from ants and virgin females. In the environment with ant cues, males did not spend significantly more time on the surface treated with water or insecticide residues. Secondly, adult male and female spiders were exposed to cues from predators and conspecifics and fresh insecticide residuals and we recorded mating behaviour. The presence of ant cues nor the presence of insecticide residues had a significant effect on the mating behaviour. However, the frequency of females biting males was significantly lower on the surface with insecticide residues and ant cues and highest on the surface with ant cues and water treatment. The size of mating plugs (applied to female genitals by males during mating) was not different between ant cues and control, but the plugs were significantly larger on the surface with insecticide residues. We conclude that azadirachtin affected only slightly the perception of predation risk and consequently mating behaviour in P. cespitum. Similarly, presence of ant cues had little effect on mating.Information on the interactions of microplastics (MPs) with dissolved organic matter (DOM) is essential for understanding their environmental impacts. This study selected fulvic acid (FA) as a typical DOM to investigate the influence of contact time, temperature, dosage, solution pH, salinity, and coexisting metal ions on the adsorption of FA onto polyamide 6 (PA6) MPs. The adsorption kinetic and isotherm can be successfully described by mixed-order (MO) and Freundlich models. This study was conducted to investigate TCS abatement by a novel electro-oxidation (EO) process, which used a Ti-based nickel and antimony doped tin oxide (NATO/Ti) anode and a carbon nanotubes (CNTs) doped carbon/PTFE (CNTs-C/PTFE) gas diffusion electrode (GDE) for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). A comparative study was also performed for TCS degradation by using a traditional EO with a nickel foam cathode, termed as HER-EO. The optimal initial TCS concentration, current density and solution pH for TCS degradation during the ORR-EO and HER-EO were investigated. Results showed that ORR-EO removed more than 98% of TCS in 10-60 min under the concentration of 5-50 mg/L. The TCS degradation followed pseudo-first-order kinetics and its main intermediates were observed during the ORR-EO and HER-EO using liquid chromatography combined mass (LC-MS). The results of FED analysis and toxicity prediction by ECOSAR software showed that less intermediates accumulated during the ORR-EO and the residues were less harmful.

  • Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious complication of COVID-19. Methods Records of hospitalized adult patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection from 1 March to 31 May 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Results Of 283 patients, AKI occurred in 40.6%. From multivariate analyses, the risk factors of AKI in COVID-19 can be divided into (1) demographics/co-morbidities (male, increasing age, diabetes, chronic kidney disease); (2) other organ involvements (transaminitis, elevated troponin I, ST segment/T wave change on electrocardiography); (3) elevated biomarkers (ferritin, lactate dehydrogenase); (4) possible bacterial co-infection (leukocytosis, elevated procalcitonin); (5) need for advanced oxygen delivery (non-invasive positive pressure ventilation, mechanical ventilation); and (6) other critical features (ICU admission, need for vasopressors, acute respiratory distress syndrome). Most AKIs were due to pre-renal (70.4%) and intrinsic (34.8%) causes. Renal replacement therapy was more common in intrinsic AKI. Both pre-renal (HR 3.2; 95% CI 1.7-5.9) and intrinsic AKI (HR 7.7; 95% CI 3.6-16.3) were associated with higher mortality. Male, stage 3 AKI, higher baseline and peak serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen were prevalent in intrinsic AKI. Urine analysis and the fractional excretion of sodium and urea were not helpful in distinguishing intrinsic AKI from other causes. Conclusions AKI is very common in COVID-19 and is associated with higher mortality. Characterization of AKI is warranted due to its diverse nature and clinical outcome.Vitamin D deficiency has been associated with significant changes in dental structures. This study aimed to assess the association between low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH) D) levels ( 0). Serum 25(OH) D was measured using a competitive electrochemiluminescence immunoassay protein-binding assay. Bivariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression were used. Advanced caries in permanent teeth was significantly associated with children's vitamin D levels less then 30 ng/mL, gastrointestinal disorders, higher daily intake of cariogenic food, and having had a dental appointment at ≤7 years old. Optimal childhood levels of vitamin D may be considered an additional preventive measure for dental caries in the permanent dentition.We explored the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients' anthropometric measures and the CPAP treatment response. To that end, we processed three non-overlapping cohorts (D1, D2, D3) with 1046 patients from four sleep laboratories in Western Romania, including 145 subjects (D1) with one-night CPAP therapy. Using D1 data, we created a CPAP-response network of patients, and found neck circumference (NC) as the most significant qualitative indicator for apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) improvement.     Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a serious complication of COVID-19. Methods Records of hospitalized adult patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection from 1 March to 31 May 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. Results Of 283 patients, AKI occurred in 40.6%. From multivariate analyses, the risk factors of AKI in COVID-19 can be divided into (1) demographics/co-morbidities (male, increasing age, diabetes, chronic kidney disease); (2) other organ involvements (transaminitis, elevated troponin I, ST segment/T wave change on electrocardiography); (3) elevated biomarkers (ferritin, lactate dehydrogenase); (4) possible bacterial co-infection (leukocytosis, elevated procalcitonin); (5) need for advanced oxygen delivery (non-invasive positive pressure ventilation, mechanical ventilation); and (6) other critical features (ICU admission, need for vasopressors, acute respiratory distress syndrome). Most AKIs were due to pre-renal (70.4%) and intrinsic (34.8%) causes. Renal replacement therapy was more common in intrinsic AKI. Both pre-renal (HR 3.2; 95% CI 1.7-5.9) and intrinsic AKI (HR 7.7; 95% CI 3.6-16.3) were associated with higher mortality. Male, stage 3 AKI, higher baseline and peak serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen were prevalent in intrinsic AKI. Urine analysis and the fractional excretion of sodium and urea were not helpful in distinguishing intrinsic AKI from other causes. Conclusions AKI is very common in COVID-19 and is associated with higher mortality. Serum 25(OH) D was measured using a competitive electrochemiluminescence immunoassay protein-binding assay. Bivariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression were used. Advanced caries in permanent teeth was significantly associated with children's vitamin D levels less then 30 ng/mL, gastrointestinal disorders, higher daily intake of cariogenic food, and having had a dental appointment at ≤7 years old. Optimal childhood levels of vitamin D may be considered an additional preventive measure for dental caries in the permanent dentition.We explored the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients' anthropometric measures and the CPAP treatment response. To that end, we processed three non-overlapping cohorts (D1, D2, D3) with 1046 patients from four sleep laboratories in Western Romania, including 145 subjects (D1) with one-night CPAP therapy.   • Continuous room temperature nanowire lasing from silicon-integrated optoelectronic elements requires careful optimisation of both the lasing cavity Q-factor and population inversion conditions. We apply time-gated optical interferometry to the lasing emission from high-quality GaAsP/GaAs quantum well nanowire laser structures, revealing high Q-factors of 1250 ± 90 corresponding to end-facet reflectivities of R = 0.73 ± 0.02. By using optimised direct-indirect band alignment in the active region, we demonstrate a well-refilling mechanism providing a quasi-four-level system leading to multi-nanosecond lasing and record low room temperature lasing thresholds (~6 μJ cm-2 pulse-1) for III-V nanowire lasers. Our findings demonstrate a highly promising new route towards continuously operating silicon-integrated nanolaser elements. © The Author(s) 2020.By integrating a free-standing cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanowire onto a silicon nitride (SiN) photonic chip, we demonstrate a highly compact on-chip single-mode CdS nanowire laser. The mode selection is realized using a ****-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) structure. When the pumping intensity exceeds the lasing threshold of 4.9 kW/cm2, on-chip single-mode lasing at ~518.9 nm is achieved with a linewidth of 0.1 nm and a side-mode suppression ratio of up to a factor of 20 (13 dB). The output of the nanowire laser is channelled into an on-chip SiN waveguide with high efficiency (up to 58%) by evanescent coupling, and the directional coupling ratio between the two output ports can be varied from 90 to 10% by predesigning the coupling length of the SiN waveguide. Here, we report an optical far-field-induced near-field breakdown (O-FIB) approach as an optical version of the conventional FIB technique, which allows direct nanowriting in air. The writing is initiated from nanoholes created by femtosecond-laser-induced multiphoton absorption, and its cutting "knife edge" is sharpened by the far-field-regulated enhancement of the optical near field. A spatial resolution of less than 20 nm (λ/40, with λ being the light wavelength) is readily achieved. O-FIB is empowered by the utilization of simple polarization control of the incident light to steer the nanogroove writing along the designed pattern. The universality of near-field enhancement and localization makes O-FIB applicable to various materials, and enables a large-area printing mode that is superior to conventional FIB processing. © The Author(s) 2020.Topological physics mainly arises as a necessary link between properties of the bulk and the appearance of surface states, and has led to successful discoveries of novel topological surface states in Chern insulators, topological insulators, and topological Fermi arcs in Weyl, Dirac, and Nodal line semimetals owing to their nontrivial bulk topology. In particular, topological phases in non-Hermitian systems have attracted growing interests in recent years. In this work, we predict the emergence of the topologically stable nodal disks where the real part of the eigen frequency is degenerate between two bands in non-ideal magnetohydrodynamics plasma with collision and viscosity dissipations. Each nodal disk possesses continuously distributed topological surface charge density that integrates to unity. It is found that the lossy Fermi arcs at the interface connect to the middle of the projection of the nodal disks. We further show that the emergence, coalescence, and annihilation of the nodal disks can be controlled by plasma parameters and dissipation terms.     A variety of public health interventions have been undertaken in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to prevent morbidity and mortality associated with household air pollution (HAP) due to cooking, heating and lighting with solid biomass fuels. Pregnant women and children under five are particularly vulnerable to the effects of HAP, due to biological susceptibility and typically higher exposure levels. However, the relative health benefits of interventions to reduce HAP exposure among these groups remain unclear. This systematic review aims to assess, among pregnant women, infants and children (under 5 years) in LMIC settings, the effectiveness of interventions which aim to reduce household air pollutant emissions due to household solid biomass fuel combustion, compared to usual cooking practices, in terms of health outcomes associated with HAP exposure.

    This protocol follows standard systematic review processes and abides by the PRISMA-P reporting guidelines. Searches will be undertaken in MEDLINE, in LMIC contexts, with discussion on the context of implementation and adoption, and summarise current literature of relevance to maternal and child health. This assessment reflects the need for HAP interventions which achieve measurable health benefits, which would need to be supported by policies that are socially and economically acceptable in LMIC settings worldwide.

    PROSPERO CRD42020164998.Novel duck reovirus (NDRV) causes severe economic losses to the duck industry, which is characterized by hemorrhagic spots and necrotic foci of the livers and spleens. DEAD-box helicase 1 (DDX1) plays a critical role in the innate immune system against viral infection. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/l-alpha-phosphatidylcholine.html However, the role of duck DDX1 (duDDX1) in anti-RNA virus infection, especially in the anti-NDRV infection, has yet to be elucidated. In the present study, the full-length cDNA of duDDX1 (2223 bp encode 740 amino acids) was firstly cloned from the spleen of healthy Cherry valley ducks, and the phylogenetic tree indicated that the duDDX1 has the closest relationship with Anas platyrhynchos in the bird branch. The duDDX1 mRNA was widely distributed in all tested tissues, especially in the duodenum, liver, and spleen. Overexpression of duDDX1 in primary duck embryo fibroblast (DEF) cells triggered the activation of transcription factors IRF-7 and NF-κB, as well as IFN-β expression, and the expression of the Toll-like receptors (TLR2, TLR3, and TLR4) was significantly increased. Importantly, after overexpressing or knocking down duDDX1 and infecting NDRV in DEF cells, duDDX1 inhibits the replication of NDRV virus and also regulates the expression of pattern recognition receptors and cytokines. This indicates that duDDX1 may play an important role in the innate immune response of ducks to NDRV. Collectively, we first cloned DDX1 from ducks and analyzed its biological functions. Secondly, we proved that duck DDX1 participates in anti-NDRV infection, and innovated new ideas for the prevention and control of duck virus infection.
    To investigate maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of axitinib, a selective vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1-3 inhibitor, in combination with radiotherapy (RT) for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

    This phase I study followed the rule of traditional 3 + 3 design. Major eligibility included (1) patients with advanced HCC unsuitable for surgery, radiofrequency ablation or transarterial chemoembolization, or who failed after prior local-regional treatment; (2) failure on sorafenib or no grant for sorafenib from health insurance system. Eligible patients with advanced HCC received axitinib for total 8weeks during and after RT. Three cohorts with axitinib dose escalation were planned 1mg twice daily (level I), 2mg twice daily (level II) and 3mg twice daily (level III). The prescribed doses of RT ranged from 37.5 to 67.5Gy in 15 fractions to liver tumor(s) and were determined based on an upper limit of mean liver dose of 18Gy (intended isotoxic RT for normal liver).     Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a common type of lung cancer. Extracellular vehicles (EVs) are nano-sized particles containing proteins, lipids, and miRNAs secreted by various cells, which play important roles in the development of lung cancer by regulating a wide range of signaling pathways. This study focused on elucidating a potential mechanism by which EVs promote the development of NSCLC.

    Expression levels of miR-744, SUV39H1, Smad9, and BMP4 in clinical tissue samples of NSCLC patients and cell lines were quantified by RT-qPCR and/or western blot analysis. The interaction between SUV39H1 and miR-744 was identified by dual-luciferase reporter assay. miR-744, SUV39H1, and BMP4 expression levels were modulated in A549 and H460 cells, in order to evaluate their effects on cell proliferation, colony formation and cell cycle. A NSCLC xenograft mouse model was used to verify the in vitro findings. NSCLC cell-derived EVs and normal bronchial epithelial cell-derived EVs were isolated and their roles in NSCLC development were evaluated in vivo and in vitro.

    miR-744 expression was lower in cancer cell-derived derived EVs than in normal lung epithelial cell-derived EVs. Reduced miR-744 expression in EVs upregulated SUV39H1 in NSCLC cells and further increased BMP4 levels to promote NSCLC development. BMP4 was upregulated in NSCLC cells upon suppression of Smad9 mediated by SUV39H1. Reduced miR-744 expression transferred from cancer cell-derived EVs into NSCLC cells enhanced cancer development.

However, the relative health benefits of interventions to reduce HAP exposure among these groups remain unclear. This phase I study followed the rule of traditional 3 + 3 design. Major eligibility included (1) patients with advanced HCC unsuitable for surgery, radiofrequency ablation or transarterial chemoembolization, or who failed after prior local-regional treatment; (2) failure on sorafenib or no grant for sorafenib from health insurance system. Eligible patients with advanced HCC received axitinib for total 8weeks during and after RT. Three cohorts with axitinib dose escalation were planned 1mg twice daily (level I), 2mg twice daily (level II) and 3mg twice daily (level III). This study focused on elucidating a potential mechanism by which EVs promote the development of NSCLC. Expression levels of miR-744, SUV39H1, Smad9, and BMP4 in clinical tissue samples of NSCLC patients and cell lines were quantified by RT-qPCR and/or western blot analysis. The interaction between SUV39H1 and miR-744 was identified by dual-luciferase reporter assay. miR-744, SUV39H1, and BMP4 expression levels were modulated in A549 and H460 cells, in order to evaluate their effects on cell proliferation, colony formation and cell cycle. A NSCLC xenograft mouse model was used to verify the in vitro findings. NSCLC cell-derived EVs and normal bronchial epithelial cell-derived EVs were isolated and their roles in NSCLC development were evaluated in vivo and in vitro. miR-744 expression was lower in cancer cell-derived derived EVs than in normal lung epithelial cell-derived EVs. Reduced miR-744 expression in EVs upregulated SUV39H1 in NSCLC cells and further increased BMP4 levels to promote NSCLC development.   • The hypersensitive detection of metal ions and amino acid becomes more important for environmental and human physical conditions monitor but remains still a great challenge. In this work, we have reported a green and straight forward procedure (solvothermal treatment) for the synthesis of N-doped hemicellulose-based carbon quantum dots (N-H-CQDs) used as an "off-on" fluorescence sensor for ultrasensitive detecting Ag+ ion and L-Cysteine (L-Cys). During this process, hemicellulose used as carbon source and nitrogen-rich deep eutectic solvent (DES) of choline chloride/urea acted as both solvent and doping agent. The prepared N-H-CQDs displayed narrow diameter ranging from 2 to 8 nm with relatively higher quantum yield (QY) of 23.45%. This probe was able to selectively detect Ag+ ion on account of the formation of N-H-CQDs- Ag+ complex and possessed extremely low detection limit of 21 nM. Additionally, the fluorescence of N-H-CQDs-Ag+ complex was restored by the addition of L-Cysteine as Ag+ ion would assemble a more stable Ag+-L-Cysteine complex through Ag+-thiol bonds. Accordingly, the N-H-CQDs-Ag+ solution behaved as secondary fluorescent probe to detect L-Cys in the dynamic range of 0-100 μM with a LOD of 242 nM. The prepared N-H-CQDs are promising probes for hypersensitive detection of Ag+ and L-Cys. V.2-Hydroxyethyl cellulose graft polylactic acid copolymer (HLAC) was prepared by graft copolymerization of lactic acid (LA) and 2-hydroxyethyl cellulose (2-HEC), initiated by dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL) catalyst in aqueous media. Halloysite nanotubes (HNTs)/polyurethane (PU) bionanocomposites were prepared using the HLAC as chain extender in the step-growth polymerization. HNTs were dispersed in HLAC based PU matrix at different weight ratios of 0.30, 0.50, 1.00, and 3.00. Chemical structure and morphology of the graft copolymer and bionanocomposite elastomers were characterized using solid state 1H NMR, ATR-FTIR, XRD, and SEM-EDX, while thermal degradation behavior was studied by TGA and DSC techniques. Surface morphology of the HNTs reinforced HLAC/PU bio-nanocomposites demonstrated the homogeneous dispersion of HNTs with little wavy rough surface at low contents which turned to be brittle at higher contents due to agglomerated HNTs. It is observed that the lower contents of HNTs were completely exfoliated in the HLAC/PU matrix. Crystalline pattern of the elastomers improved at lower contents of HNTs that enhanced the thermal stability of the bionanocomposites. The mechanical testing suggested that HNTs/HLAC/PU bionanocomposites have higher values of tensile strength and % elongation with only 0.3-0.5 wt% contents of HNTs that suggested the potential applications of elastomers at economic cost. Calf thymus polypeptide (CTP) is prepared from calf thymus. It has a molecular mass of less then 10 kilodalton (kDa) and contains 17 types of amino acids. This study investigated the hematopoietic function-improvement effect of CTP in CHRF, K562, and bone marrow mononuclear cells; **** with immunosuppression; and with hematopoietic dysfunction. In **** with immunosuppression, CTP enhanced the cytotoxic activity of natural killer cells and the proliferation of lymphocytes and regulated the levels of immunoglobulins. It also enhanced the proliferation and differentiation of CHRF and K562 cells by upregulating the expression of proliferation- and differentiation-related proteins. In **** with hematopoietic dysfunction, CTP restored white blood cell, neutrophil, and hemoglobin proportions in the peripheral blood and enhanced the levels of B lymphocytes and hematopoietic stem cells and progenitor cells in the bone marrow. CTP effectively regulated the levels of hematopoiesis-related cytokines, such as granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF), interleukin 2, and interferons-γ, and enhanced the expression of hematopoiesis-related proteins in both primary bone marrow cells and **** with hematopoietic dysfunction. After training, 100% of the residents reached the grade, with an average of 94.9/100 (SD 3.2), p less then 0.01, with only 5.1% (3/59) needing more practice time than that initially allocated. The success rate in the first attempt at intubation in the emergency department with videolaryngoscopy was 77.8% (21/27). The rate of adverse events associated with intubations was 26% (7/27), representing a serious event. CONCLUSIONS Simulation-based mastery learning increased residents' skills related to intubation and allowed safe tracheal intubations with video laryngoscopy. METHODS A community-based survey applying a comparative cross sectional approach was conducted in six high schools in Palembang. Subjects were recruited using multistage random sampling divided in two groups. Rome III criteria were used to establish a diagnosis of IBS in combination with a questionnaire to determine risk factors. Determination of fecal alpha-1-antitrypsin and calprotectin levels was performed to determine impaired intestinal mucosal integrity. A questionnaire was used to evaluate how quality of life was affected by irritable bowel syndrome. RESULTS The survey was performed in 454 14-18years old adolescents, of whom 30.2% fulfilled the Rome III criteria for IBS, with the following subtypes 36.5% diarrhea, 18.9% constipation, 21.9% mixed, and 22.6% unclassified.

  • Further, research has to be directed towards the development of new therapeutic agents/techniques that can both replace conventional techniques and also solve the problem of emerging antibiotic resistance. The objective of the present review is to describe the etiological agents, pathogenesis, and diagnosis in brief along with an extensive discussion on the advances in the treatment and management of mastitis, which would help safeguard the health of dairy animals.
    To evaluate the impact of discrepancy between prescribed and recommended fixed 200 mg dose (P-F discrepancy) on immune-related adverse events (irAEs) and treatment efficacy in patients with advanced melanoma and NSCLC.

    This retrospective study included 177 patients with advanced melanoma or non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received at least one cycle of single-agent pembrolizumab. We defined P-F discrepancy as the differences between prescribed pembrolizumab dose and 200 mg recommended dose, expressed in percentages. Our primary outcome was immune-related adverse events (irAEs), and our secondary outcomes included overall survival (OS) and progression free survival (PFS).

    The median P-F discrepancy was -21.5%, with the 25th and 75th percentile at -32% and -5.0% respectively. ROC curve analyses did not show any optimal cutoffs to prognosticate irAEs (AUC = 0.558 for all patients) or cancer mortality (AUC = 0.583 for melanoma; AUC = 0.539 for NSCLC) in either cancer type. Separate multivariable Cox analyses suggested no statistically significant association between P-F discrepancy and overall survival in patients with melanoma (HR 1.012, 95%CI 0.987-1.038, P = 0.362) or NSCLC (HR 0.998, 95%CI 0.978-1.019, P = 0.876).

    There was no optimal pembrolizumab cut-off point to predict irAEs or treatment efficacy. This study assessed whether brief mindfulness practice (breath awareness) or training in two other contemplative practices - loving-kindness and gratitude - differentially impact working memory performance following acute physiological stress relative to an attentional control. Participants (n = 162) were randomly assigned to one of four training groups and completed the automated Operation Span (OSPAN) task pre-training and again after undergoing the cold pressor task. Three of the four groups improved in OSPAN performance, with loving-kindness, gratitude, and attentional control conditions showing increases in OSPAN relative to breath awareness. Changes in OSPAN were not correlated with changes in positive or negative affect. It appears that brief breath awareness training may not effectively buffer against acute stress in this predominantly meditation naïve sample and may in fact impair subsequent cognitive performance relative to a control or other contemplative practices. A granular approach is warranted to understand potentially distinct and contextually variable effects of different contemplative practices. To evaluate the impact of discrepancy between prescribed and recommended fixed 200 mg dose (P-F discrepancy) on immune-related adverse events (irAEs) and treatment efficacy in patients with advanced melanoma and NSCLC. This retrospective study included 177 patients with advanced melanoma or non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received at least one cycle of single-agent pembrolizumab. We defined P-F discrepancy as the differences between prescribed pembrolizumab dose and 200 mg recommended dose, expressed in percentages. Our primary outcome was immune-related adverse events (irAEs), and our secondary outcomes included overall survival (OS) and progression free survival (PFS). The median P-F discrepancy was -21.5%, with the 25th and 75th percentile at -32% and -5.0% respectively. ROC curve analyses did not show any optimal cutoffs to prognosticate irAEs (AUC = 0.558 for all patients) or cancer mortality (AUC = 0.583 for melanoma; AUC = 0.539 for NSCLC) in either cancer type. Separate multivariable Cox analyses suggested no statistically significant association between P-F discrepancy and overall survival in patients with melanoma (HR 1.012, 95%CI 0.987-1.038, P = 0.362) or NSCLC (HR 0.998, 95%CI 0.978-1.019, P = 0.876). There was no optimal pembrolizumab cut-off point to predict irAEs or treatment efficacy. We supported the use of weight-based pembrolizumab dosing, given the potential cost-saving and no differences in terms of irAEs or treatment efficacy in patients with advanced melanoma or NSCLC. Methylation specific-high resolution melting (MS-HRM) analysis and Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) experiment were performed to analyze the promoter methylation and mRNA expression levels of and genes in 102 breast tumors and adjacent normal breast specimens. However, the effects of brief periods of mindfulness meditation training are less clear, particularly on measures of cognitive functioning. This study assessed whether brief mindfulness practice (breath awareness) or training in two other contemplative practices - loving-kindness and gratitude - differentially impact working memory performance following acute physiological stress relative to an attentional control. Participants (n = 162) were randomly assigned to one of four training groups and completed the automated Operation Span (OSPAN) task pre-training and again after undergoing the cold pressor task. Three of the four groups improved in OSPAN performance, with loving-kindness, gratitude, and attentional control conditions showing increases in OSPAN relative to breath awareness. Changes in OSPAN were not correlated with changes in positive or negative affect. It appears that brief breath awareness training may not effectively buffer against acute stress in this predominantly meditation naïve sample and may in fact impair subsequent cognitive performance relative to a control or other contemplative practices. A granular approach is warranted to understand potentially distinct and contextually variable effects of different contemplative practices.   • Several studies have observed heightened Pavlovian fear conditioning in PTSD. However, it is unclear how fear conditioning in PTSD is related to risk factors for the disorder, such as anxiety sensitivity. Fifty-one combat-exposed veterans (20 with PTSD, 31 without PTSD) completed a differential fear conditioning task in which one colored rectangle (CS+) predicted a loud scream (US), whereas a different colored rectangle (CS-) predicted no US. Veterans with PTSD were characterized by greater anxiety to the CS+ but not the CS- during acquisition and extinction, and greater US expectancy during the CS+ but not the CS- at extinction. Also, veterans with PTSD had greater pupil dilation to both CSs at extinction, but not at acquisition. Anxiety sensitivity was correlated with anxiety and US expectancy in response to the CS+, but not the CS-, at both acquisition and extinction, and also with pupil diameter to both the CS+ and CS- at extinction. Nearly all of these relations held when covarying for PTSD symptoms and trait anxiety. Both psychological (Estimate = -2.20, SE = 0.07) and physical aggression (Estimate = -0.36, SE = 0.05) were significantly reduced from baseline to posttreatment follow-up. Lagged PTSD symptom reduction was not associated with reduced reports of aggression; however, higher baseline PTSD scores were significantly associated with greater reductions in psychological aggression (exclusively; ß = -0.67, 95% CI = -1.05, -0.30, SE = -3.49). Findings reveal that service members receiving PTSD treatment report substantial collateral changes in psychological aggression over time, particularly for participants with greater PTSD symptom severity. However, to date, no study has evaluated the effectiveness of online PMT under real-world conditions; that is, delivered by community practitioners as part of services-as-usual to families residing in rural communities. This has resulted in a critical lack of evidence supporting the capacity of online PMT to ameliorate actual geographical disparities in service accessibility. Accordingly, the current study evaluated effectiveness and engagement outcomes of Internet-delivered Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (I-PCIT) delivered from a community-based early childhood clinic to rural consumers. Participants were 27 mothers and their 1.5- to 4-year-old child with conduct problems (M age = 3.02, SD = 0.73) living in regional and rural New South Wales, Australia. Parent-rated and observed child conduct problems and observed parenting behaviors were assessed pre and post I-PCIT, and treatment attrition, parental satisfaction with treatment, and homework compliance provided indicators of treatment engagement. Results of linear mixed and marginal models indicated that I-PCIT produced significant improvements in parent-reported and observed child conduct problems and observed parenting behaviors, with "small" to "very large" effect sizes (ds = 0.3-1.4). Treatment retention was adequate (63%), and treatment-completing parents reported high treatment satisfaction and good homework compliance. Findings provide preliminary evidence for the real world effectiveness of I-PCIT, supporting its capacity to narrow the research-to-practice gap. Findings suggest a role for I-PCIT in a stepped care model of remote treatment for childhood conduct problems in Australia.

  • These data support further medicinal chemistry lead-optimization of DDD01034957 as a novel antimalarial chemical class and provide new insights to further reduce in vivo metabolic clearance.Whole genome sequencing (WGS) has been shown to be superior to traditional procedures of genotyping in tuberculosis (TB), nevertheless, reports of its use in drug resistant TB (DR-TB) isolates circulating in Mexico, are practically unknown. Considering the above the main of this work was to identify and characterize the lineages and genomic transmission clusters present in 67 DR-TB isolates circulating in southeastern Mexico. The results show the presence of three major lineages L1 (3%), L2 (3%) and L4 (94%), the last one included 16 sublineages. Sublineage 4.1.1.3 (X3) was predominant in 18 (27%) of the isolates, including one genomic cluster, formed by eleven multidrug resistant isolates and sharing the SIT 3278, which seems to be restricted to Mexico. By the use of WGS, it was possible to identify the high prevalence of L4 and a high number of sublineages circulating in the region, also was recognized the presence of a novel X3 sublineage, formed exclusively by multidrug resistant isolates and with restrictive circulation in Mexico for at least the past 17 years.The strong facet-dependent performance of glass-supported CeO2 thin films in different applications (catalysis, smart windows, etc.) has been the target of diverse fundamental and technological approaches. However, the design of accurate, cost-effective and scalable methods with the potential for large-area coverage that produce highly textured glass-supported CeO2 thin films remains a technological challenge. In the present work, it is demonstrated that under proper tuning conditions, the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis technique enables one to obtain glass-supported polycrystalline CeO2 films with noticeable texture along both the (100) and (111) directions, as well as with randomly oriented crystallites (no texture). The influence of flow rates, solution molarity, and substrate temperature on the texture and morphological characteristics, as well as optical absorption and Raman response of the deposited films, is evaluated. The obtained results are discussed on the basis of the combined dependence of the CeO2-exposed surfaces on the thermodynamic stability of the corresponding facets and the reaction kinetics, which modulate the crystallite growth direction.The host hormone melatonin is known to modulate the asexual cell-cycle of the human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum and the kinase PfPK7 is fundamental in the downstream signaling pathways. The nuclear protein PfMORC displays a histidine kinase domain and is involved in parasite cell cycle control. By using a real-time assay, we show a 24 h (h) rhythmic expression of PfMORC at the parasite asexual cycle and the expression is dramatically changed when parasites were treated with 100 nM melatonin for 17 h. Moreover, PfMORC expression was severely affected in PfPK7 knockout (PfPK7-) parasites following melatonin treatment. Parasites expressing 3D7morc-GFP shows nuclear localization of the protein during the asexual stage of parasite development. We evaluated the quantity of viral DNA from the serotypes AAV9, AAV6, and a mosaic AAV1&2, expressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) under the neuron-specific synapsin promoter (syn). AAVs were administered intravenously during MRIgFUS targeting to the striatum and hippocampus in mice. The syn promoter led to undetectable levels of GFP expression in peripheral organs. In the liver, the biodistribution of AAV9 and AAV1&2 was 12.9- and 4.4-fold higher, respectively, compared to AAV6. The percentage of GFP-positive neurons in the FUS-targeted areas of the brain was comparable for AAV6-syn-GFP and AAV1&2-syn-GFP. We establish how the deduced rate evolution with the temperature is linked to the exchange coupling constants reported for different alloy stoichiometries and how sublattice exchange energies threshold the related el-ph spin-flip channels. Thus, these results evidence that the Elliott-Yafet spin-flip scattering, thresholded by sublattice exchange energies, is the relevant microscopic process to describe sublattice dynamics in alloys and elemental magnetic systems.

MATERIALS AND METHODS We reviewed 144 adult patients who underwent presurgical evaluation for temporal lobe epilepsy. The reference standard for hippocampal sclerosis was defined by having hippocampal sclerosis on pathology (n = 61) or not having hippocampal sclerosis on pathology (n = 83). Sensitivities, specificities, positive predictive values, and negative predictive values were compared between NeuroQuant analysis and visual MR imaging analysis by using a McNemar paired test of proportions and the Bayes theorem. RESULTS NeuroQuant analysis had a similar specificity to neuroradiologist visual MR imaging analysis (90.4% versus 91.6%; P = .99) but a lower sensitivity (69.0% versus 93.0%, P less then  .001). The positive predictive value of NeuroQuant analysis was comparable with visual MR imaging analysis (84.0% versus 89.1%), whereas the negative predictive value was not comparable (79.8% versus 95.0%). CONCLUSIONS Visual MR imaging analysis by a neuroradiologist with expertise in epilepsy had a higher sensitivity than did NeuroQuant analysis, likely due to the inability of NeuroQuant to evaluate changes in hippocampal T2 signal or architecture. Given that there was no significant difference in specificity between NeuroQuant analysis and visual MR imaging analysis, NeuroQuant can be a valuable tool when the results are positive, particularly in centers that lack neuroradiologists with expertise in epilepsy, to help identify and refer candidates for temporal lobe epilepsy resection. In Part II, 11 raters independently graded 17 arterial segments in each of 50 patients with SAH for the presence of vasospasm using a 4-category scale. Raters were additionally asked to judge the presence of any moderate/severe vasospasm (≥ 50% narrowing) and whether findings would justify augmentation of medical treatment or conventional angiography ± balloon angioplasty. Four raters took part in the intraobserver reliability study. RESULTS In Part I, the systematic review revealed few studies with heterogeneous vasospasm definitions. In Part II, we found interrater reliability to be moderate at best (κ ≤ 0.6), even when results were stratified according to specialty and experience. Intrarater reliability was substantial (κ > 0.6) in 3/4 readers. In the per arterial segment analysis, substantial agreement was reached only for the middle cerebral arteries, and only when senior raters' judgments were dichotomized (presence or absence of ≥50% narrowing). Agreement on the medical or angiographic management of vasospasm based on CTA alone was less than substantial (κ ≤ 0.6). Seventy-three cases were audited between September 2010 and October 2017. Presenting with a Glasgow Coma Scale score of >13 meant that the odds of reaching the primary end point of functional independence (defined as a 90-day modified Rankin Scale score of 0-2) were 5.70 times greater; similarly, presenting with a posterior circulation ASPECTS of  >9 resulted in the odds of reaching the primary end point being 4.03 times greater.   • Following publication of the original article [1], the authors flagged that the name of 'Asal Hojjat' was misspelled; the name had been spelled as 'Asal Hojat'.BACKGROUND In unsupervised learning and clustering, data integration from different sources and types is a difficult question discussed in several research areas. For instance in omics analysis, dozen of clustering methods have been developed in the past decade. When a single source of data is at play, hierarchical clustering (HC) is extremely popular, as a tree structure is highly interpretable and arguably more informative than just a partition of the data. However, applying blindly HC to multiple sources of data raises computational and interpretation issues. RESULTS We propose mergeTrees, a method that aggregates a set of trees with the same leaves to create a consensus tree. In our consensus tree, a cluster at height h contains the individuals that are in the same cluster for all the trees at height h. The method is exact and proven to be [Formula see text], n being the individuals and q being the number of trees to aggregate. Our implementation is extremely effective on simulations, allowing us to process many large trees at a time. We also rely on mergeTrees to perform the cluster analysis of two real -omics data sets, introducing a spectral variant as an efficient and robust by-product. CONCLUSIONS Our tree aggregation method can be used in conjunction with hierarchical clustering to perform efficient cluster analysis. This approach was found to be robust to the absence of clustering information in some of the data sets as well as an increased variability within true clusters. Also, biologics including antibodies and recombinant proteins have been developed and some have reached early clinical stages. Data deem the Eph-ephrin system as a signaling axis that is an elusive target. A better understanding of the basic pharmacology behind the activity of available agents and a comprehensive knowledge of the ephrin biology is necessary. We are looking forward to knowing the opinion of the readers.This study investigated the impact of empathy training on medical students using a project-based learning approach on the development of their empathic abilities. Study participants were Year 2 students in the six-year medical program, to whom a one credit-hour course on empathic communication was offered over a semester. In this course, students worked on collaborative team projects in which they were asked to interview a person and to report the empathy that they shared with the interviewee. Development in student empathy was measured using the Interpersonal Reactivity Index inventory in a pre- and post-test format over the semester and their reflective reports were qualitatively analyzed to identify emerging themes on the lessons they learned from the project experience. A total of 45 students completed the questionnaires (a 97.8% response rate). Students' overall empathy scores did not change over time (t = 1.943, p = .06). Still, students with lower empathy in the pre-test improved significantly in their empathy scores (t = 3.44, p less then  .01). Students reported that the empathy project was beneficial in improving their understanding of empathy and enhancing their empathic communication skills. This study shows the project-based learning approach was effective in developing medical student empathy especially for those with lower empathy.Objectives The study aims to investigate occupational exposure to carbon fibers impregnated with epoxy resins (carbon fiber reinforced [CFR]) in workers at an airplane fuselage section construction plant, by environmental and biological monitoring.Materials and methods Determination of airborne CFR was done by environmental sampling with active samplers, 11 of which were stationary and 19 personal samplings. The subsequent analyses were performed in the scanning electron microscope fitted with an X-ray microanalysis system (SEM-EDXA). Biological monitoring was carried out by determining CFR in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) collected from 19 male workers who wore personal environmental samplers (exposed workers) and from 10 male workers at the same factory who had no occupational exposure to CFR (internal controls). CFR analysis was done by SEM, applying the method used for determining asbestos fibers in aqueous samples.Results The airborne CFR concentrations were found to be significantly higher (p = 0.03) at personal samplings (median value 7.01 ff/L, range 1.24-11.16 ff/L) than stationary samplings (median value 1.93 ff/L, range 0.55-10.09 ff/L). The aerodynamic diameters calculated starting from the length and geometric diameter of the sampled CFRs were always higher than 20 µm. CFR was not found in any of the EBC samples collected from the exposed workers and controls.Conclusions Despite the evidence of occupational exposure to low concentrations of CFR, the absence of such fibers in the EBC in the exposed workers confirms their non-respirability, as expected based on their aerodynamic diameter.
