  • Substantial postoperative complications occur after tumor resection for esophagogastric cancers. Physical prehabilitation programs aim to prepare patients for surgery by improving their functional status with the aim of reducing postoperative complications. This systematic review aims to summarize the effects of physical prehabilitation programs on exercise capacity, muscle strength, respiratory muscle function, postoperative outcomes, and health-related quality of life and to determine the optimal design of such a program to improve these outcomes in esophagogastric cancer patients undergoing tumor resection.

    Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is the main cause of mortality among 1-to-5 month old calves in Ireland, accounting for approximately one-third of deaths. Despite widespread use of clinical respiratory signs for diagnosing BRD, lung lesions are detected, using thoracic ultrasonography (TUS) or following post-mortem, in calves showing no clinical signs. This highlights the limitation of clinical respiratory signs as a method of detecting sub-clinical BRD. Using 53 purchased artificially-reared male dairy calves, the objectives of this study were to (i) characterise the BRD incidence detected by clinical respiratory signs and/or TUS, (ii) investigate the association between clinical respiratory signs and lung lesions detected by TUS, and (iii) assess the effect of BRD on pre-weaning growth.

    Novel therapies often fail to reach the bedside due to low trial recruitment rates. Prior to conducting one of the first chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy trials in Canada, we used the Theoretical Domains Framework, a novel tool for identifying barriers and enablers to behavior change, to identify physician-related barriers and enablers to screening and recruiting patients for an early phase immunotherapy trial.

    We conducted interviews with hematologists across Canada and used a directed content analysis to identify relevant domains reflecting the key factors that may affect screening and recruitment.

Left unaddressed, these barriers may undermine trial recruitment.

    This study is among the first to usethe Theoretical Domains Framework from the physician perspective to identify recruitment challenges to early phase trials and demonstrates the value of this approach for identifying barriers to screening and recruitment that may not otherwise have been elicited. This approach can optimize trial procedures and may serve to inform future promising early phase cancer therapy trials.

    Aedes japonicus japonicus has expanded beyond its native range and has established in multiple European countries, including Belgium. In addition to the population located at Natoye, Belgium, locally established since 2002, specimens were recently collected along the Belgian border. The first objective of this study was therefore to investigate the origin of these new introductions, which were assumed to be related to the expansion of the nearby population in western Germany. Also, an intensive elimination campaign was undertaken at Natoye between 2012 and 2015, after which the species was declared to be eradicated. This species was re-detected in 2017, and thus the second objective was to investigate if these specimens resulted from a new introduction event and/or from a few undetected specimens that escaped the elimination campaign.

    Population genetic variation at nad4 and seven microsatellite loci was surveyed in 224 and 68 specimens collected in Belgium and Germany, respectively.     An effective vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 will reduce morbidity and mortality and allow substantial relaxation of physical distancing policies. However, the ability of a vaccine to prevent infection or disease depends critically on protecting older individuals, who are at highest risk of severe disease.

    We quantitatively estimated the relative benefits of COVID-19 vaccines, in terms of preventing infection and death, with a particular focus on effectiveness in elderly people.

    We applied compartmental mathematical modelling to determine the relative effects of vaccines that block infection and onward transmission, and those that prevent severe disease. We assumed that vaccines showing high efficacy in adults would be deployed, and examined the effects of lower vaccine efficacy among the elderly population.

    Our mathematical model was calibrated to simulate the course of an epidemic among the entire population of British Columbia, Canada. Within our model, the population was structured by age and levels of older age groups following vaccination.
    Effective vaccines deployed to a large fraction of the population are projected to substantially reduce infection in an otherwise susceptible population. However, even if transmission were blocked highly effectively by vaccination of children and younger adults, overall mortality would not be substantially reduced unless the vaccine is also directly protective in elderly people. We strongly recommend (i) the inclusion of people aged 65 years and over in future trials of COVID-19 vaccine candidates; (ii) careful monitoring of vaccine efficacy in older age groups following vaccination.The inactivated trivalent influenza vaccine (TIV) offers limited protection when two influenza B lineages co-circulate or when there is a vaccine mismatch (i.e., discordance in the predominant circulating B strain and WHO-recommended B strain). Inactivated quadrivalent influenza vaccine (QIV) may reduce the burden of influenza. Here, we report the results of a phase 3 clinical trial that evaluated the immunogenicity and safety of a novel QIV, GC3110A, in Korean children aged 6-35 months, which has been approved and is currently in use in Korea. The study involved two parts. In Part 1, the safety of GC3110A was evaluated in 10 subjects.     The first outbreak of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) in decades occurred in a high school dormitory in 2011. This report aims to describe the results of the IMD outbreak investigation and to discuss current issues of IMD in Japan.

    We conducted an epidemiological and microbiological investigation against the IMD outbreak of serogroup B among students and staff in a high school dormitory. Information on patients was collected to analyze risk factors for IMD. Control measures and public health actions were summarized.

    Three cases of meningitis and two cases of bacteremia were identified. Freshmen (15-16years old) living in the dormitory with preceding cough were high-risk populations in this outbreak. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, multilocus sequence typing, and porA gene sequencing results revealed that all isolates were closely related to each other and had deep similarities to the domestic circulating meningococcal strain. The outbreak was terminated after promptly implementing control measures. Based on the results of our investigation, from April 2013, national infectious disease surveillance started to target meningococcal bacteremia as part of IMD, in addition to meningococcal meningitis, which was newly designated as a category II school infectious disease under the School Health and Safety Act.

Most physicians, however, assume that patients' breathlessness is unlikely to reflect the negative physiological consequences of COPD vis-à-vis FEV1 normalcy. Immunoglobulin replacement therapy was commenced with a reduction in exacerbation frequency and severity, and objective improvement of asthma control. Omalizumab is a humanised monoclonal antibody that selectively binds to the Ce3 moiety of circulating IgE and is indicated for the treatment of resistant CSU. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether there was peripheral nervous system involvement in patients with chronic urticaria receiving omalizumab treatment.Methods Forty-seven patients who were treated with omalizumab for CSU were included in the study. Electrophysiological measurements were performed following a neurological examination before treatment and at three months after omalizumab treatment. In nerve conduction tests, eight different nerves were studied in four extremities (total 16 nerves). During these studies, two motor and two sensory nerves (median and ulnar) in the upper extremities, and two motor (tibial and common peroneal) and two sensory nerves (sural and superficial peroneal) in the lower extremities were analysed.Results No pathological electrophysiological findings supporting neuropathy were detected in any of the measurements performed before and after treatment. When the nerve conduction velocity, amplitude and latency values of all examined nerves were compared, no significant difference was found between the pre- and post-treatment values.Conclusions It can be considered that omalizumab has no effect on peripheral nerves, and it is a safe and well tolerated agent in terms of both peripheral nerves and neurological structure.

Most physicians, however, assume that patients' breathlessness is unlikely to reflect the negative physiological consequences of COPD vis-à-vis FEV1 normalcy. This concise review integrates the findings of recent studies which uncovered the key pathophysiological features shared by these patients poor pulmonary gas exchange efficiency (increased "wasted" ventilation) and gas trapping. Transiently responsive to antibiotics and steroids. These episodes had been occurring for many years and she had a longstanding clinical diagnosis of asthma.As part of her work up for recurrent respiratory tract infections a CT thorax was performed and demonstrated bronchiectasis. Further tests including Immunoglobulin levels revealed critically low IgG, IgM, and IgA levels. Immunoglobulin replacement therapy was commenced with a reduction in exacerbation frequency and severity, and objective improvement of asthma control. Subsequent lung function tests demonstrated reversible airflow limitation (obstructive lung function with 13% reversibility in FEV1 post-bronchodilator) consistent with asthma.Our case illustrates the importance of searching for alternate and co-existent diagnoses in patients diagnosed with asthma who are unresponsive to conventional therapy.   • The so-called fourth revolution in the water sector will encounter the Big data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution. The current data surplus stemming from all types of devices together with the relentless increase in computer capacity is revolutionizing almost all existing sectors, and the water sector will not be an exception. Combining the power of Big data analytics (including AI) with existing and future urban water infrastructure represents a significant untapped opportunity for the operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of urban water infrastructure to achieve economic and environmental sustainability. However, such progress may catalyze socio-economic changes and cross sector boundaries (e.g. water service, health, business) as the appearance of new needs and business models will influence the job market. Such progress will impact the academic sector as new forms of research based on large amounts of data will be possible, and new research needs will be requested by the technology industrial sector. Research and development enabling new technological approaches and more effective management strategies are needed to ensure that the emerging framework for the water sector will meet future societal needs. The feature further elucidates the complexities and possibilities associated with such collaborations.Nanosystems for monitoring and tracking T cells provide an important basis for evaluating the functionality and efficacy of T cell-based immunotherapy. To this end, we designed herein an efficient nanoprobe for T cell monitoring and tracking using poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimer-entrapped gold nanoparticles (Au DENPs) conjugated with Fluo-4 for dual-mode computed tomography (CT) and fluorescence imaging. In this study, PAMAM dendrimers of generation 5 (G5) were modified with hydroxyl-terminated polyethylene glycol (PEG) and then used to entrap 2.0 nm Au NPs followed by acetylation of the excess amine groups on the dendrimer surface. Subsequently, the calcium ion probe was covalently attached to the dendrimer nanohybrids through the PEG hydroxyl end groups to gain the functional (Au0)25-G5.NHAc-(PEG)14-(Fluo-4)2 nanoprobe. This nanoprobe had excellent water solubility, high X-ray attenuation coefficient, and good cytocompatibility in the given concentration range, as well as a high T cell labeling efficiency. Confocal microscopy and flow cytometry results demonstrated that the nanoprobe was able to fluorescently sense activated T cells. Moreover, the nanoprobe was able to realize both CT and fluorescence imaging of subcutaneously injected T cells in vivo. Finally, and most important, the assay is able to detect NT-proBNP at concentrations between 0.58 and 2.33 nM. These reactive dyes exhibit absorption maxima close to 450 nm and emission above 600 nm. They readily undergo conjugation with reducing sugars at the desired 11 stoichiometry. The red emission of conjugates with a maximum at 610-630 nm can be observed under excitation with 488 nm light and detected separately from the APTS-labeled oligosaccharides. Phosphorylated 7,9-diaminoacridine-2-SO2R derivatives with variable amounts of negative charges provide high mobilities of glycoconjugates on polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE), as compared with those of APTS. We further demonstrate their utility by labeling and separating a maltodextrin ladder and sialyllactose isomers. The new dyes are expected to cross-validate and increase the glycan identification precision in CGE-LIF and help to reveal "heavy" glycans, yet undetectable with the APTS label.

  • Nowadays, three dimensional (3D) cell cultures are widely used in the biological laboratories and several optical clearing approaches have been proposed to visualize individual cells in the deepest layers of cancer multicellular spheroids. However, defining the most appropriate clearing approach for the different cell lines is an open issue due to the lack of a gold standard quantitative metric. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/thiostrepton.html In this article, we describe and share a single-cell resolution 3D image dataset of human carcinoma spheroids imaged using a light-sheet fluorescence microscope. The dataset contains 90 multicellular cancer spheroids derived from 3 cell lines (i.e. T-47D, 5-8F, and Huh-7D12) and cleared with 5 different protocols, precisely ClearT, ClearT2, CUBIC, ScaleA2, and Sucrose. To evaluate image quality and light penetration depth of the cleared 3D samples, all the spheroids have been imaged under the same experimental conditions, labelling the nuclei with the DRAQ5 stain and using a Leica SP8 Digital LightSheet microscope. The clearing quality of this dataset was annotated by 10 independent experts and thus allows microscopy users to qualitatively compare the effects of different optical clearing protocols on different cell lines. The paper presents the data on the content of 65 chemical elements in soft tissues and shells of five species of bivalve mollusks (Astarte crenata, Ciliatocardium ciliatum, Portlandia arctica, Chlamys islandica, Hiatella arctica), as well as in the upper layer (0-5 cm) of bottom sediments of the Kara Sea, the Arctic Ocean. The content of major-, trace and rare-earth elements was determined by atomic emission and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-AES; ICP-MS). The age, size, and weight of mollusks were measured. There were differences in the content of chemical elements accumulated in soft tissues and shells of mollusks, as well as the significant interspecific difference in the chemical composition of the studied mollusks. The soft tissues of mollusks were accumulated with toxic metals (Hg, Ag, and Cd) in comparison with the content of these elements in bottom sediments. In Chlamys islandica and Hiatella arctica, the shell was accumulated in Cd in contrast to other species. The data obtained may be used for a comprehensive assessment of the state of ecosystems in the seas of the Siberian sector of the Arctic Ocean under changing environment and for studying the fundamental base of the accumulation of chemical elements by marine organisms.Oxygen and hydrogen isotope data of meteoric water samples are compiled from several States across Mexico. This dataset includes 287 oxygen and hydrogen (and deuterium excess) isotope data corresponding to meteoric water collected from the surface, groundwater wells, irrigation and observation wells, and water supply boreholes. The required data of dam-break shock waves in highly silted-up reservoirs with various initial up- and down-stream hydraulic conditions is obtained directly from high-quality videos. The multi-layer shock waves were recorded by three professional cameras mounted along the laboratory channel. The extracted video images were rigorously scrutinized, and the datasets were obtained through the images via image processing method. The paper presents the data on the content of 65 chemical elements in soft tissues and shells of five species of bivalve mollusks (Astarte crenata, Ciliatocardium ciliatum, Portlandia arctica, Chlamys islandica, Hiatella arctica), as well as in the upper layer (0-5 cm) of bottom sediments of the Kara Sea, the Arctic Ocean. The content of major-, trace and rare-earth elements was determined by atomic emission and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-AES; ICP-MS). The age, size, and weight of mollusks were measured. There were differences in the content of chemical elements accumulated in soft tissues and shells of mollusks, as well as the significant interspecific difference in the chemical composition of the studied mollusks. The soft tissues of mollusks were accumulated with toxic metals (Hg, Ag, and Cd) in comparison with the content of these elements in bottom sediments. In Chlamys islandica and Hiatella arctica, the shell was accumulated in Cd in contrast to other species. The data obtained may be used for a comprehensive assessment of the state of ecosystems in the seas of the Siberian sector of the Arctic Ocean under changing environment and for studying the fundamental base of the accumulation of chemical elements by marine organisms.Oxygen and hydrogen isotope data of meteoric water samples are compiled from several States across Mexico. This dataset includes 287 oxygen and hydrogen (and deuterium excess) isotope data corresponding to meteoric water collected from the surface, groundwater wells, irrigation and observation wells, and water supply boreholes. These data facilitate the development of maps to determine the spatial distribution of water stable isotopes, also known as "isoscapes", of the Mexican territory. As such, this dataset (and the isoscapes built from it) is useful in geographic mobility studies that aim to evaluate geographic origins and residency of particular human and/or non-human individuals in antiquity and in contemporary times. Further discussion about the data and an example of an isoscape of Mexico using the meteoric water oxygen isotope data are provided in "Residential Patterns of Mexica Human Sacrifices at Mexico-Tenochtitlan and Mexico-Tlatelolco Evidence from Phosphate Oxygen Isotopes" (Moreiras Reynaga et al., 2021). Loss of softness due to aging process is caused by loss of plasticizer and other soluble component. However, water sorption causes changes in structure and increased materials hardness, thus need frequent replacement of the materials. To extend the durability of the SDL, sealer coating (SC) was used. In this data, sealant coating acts as mechanical barrier to prevent water sorption and solubility of the chemical component to preserved material hardness. This article provides the data of sealant coating effect on hardness and water sorption of acrylic-based and silicone-based SDL materials was arranged in 4 test group pristine and coated acrylic SDL and pristine silicone SDL and coated silicone SDL. Accordingly, the data was statistically analyzed for comparison using independent T-test for shore A hardness and water sorption.This data article presents a rich original experimental video sources and wide collections of laboratory data on water levels, sediment depths and wave front celerity values arose from different multiphase dam-break scenarios. The required data of dam-break shock waves in highly silted-up reservoirs with various initial up- and down-stream hydraulic conditions is obtained directly from high-quality videos. The multi-layer shock waves were recorded by three professional cameras mounted along the laboratory channel. The extracted video images were rigorously scrutinized, and the datasets were obtained through the images via image processing method. Different sediment depths in the upstream reservoir and dry- or wet-bed downstream conditions were considered as initial conditions, compromising a total of 32 different scenarios.     Idiopathic tenosynovitis with rice bodies is a rare disease and its non-association with rheumatic diseases, tuberculosis infection or trauma is reported only in few cases in literature.

    Our study presents a series of five patients diagnosed with tenosynovitis with rice bodies at the flexor tendons of the upper limb. Medical history revealed no associated disease or trauma. Disease duration ranged between two months and four years, two patients presenting symptoms of acute carpal tunnel and three patients tumor mass. In one case, the tumor measured 210 mm in length and a tendon rupture was suspected. Laboratory and imaging investigations could not establish a specific associated pathology and a preoperative diagnosis. Surgical treatment consisting of synovectomy was performed in all patients.

    In all five cases, intraoperative appearance could easily determine the presence of rice bodies. Histopathological examination revealed typical aspect for rice bodies and make the diagnosis possible without the needisease course may be associated with a larger number of rice bodies, which may be associated with tendon rupture. Gingival samples were taken from 124 patients wearing fixed dental restorations made from these two types of alloys from injured areas surrounding the abutment teeth; histological specimens were prepared, fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin, paraffin-embedded and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE). Histological analysis showed the existence of a chronic inflammatory infiltrate in the gingival chorion, necrosis areas, and vascular congestion. Various morphological alterations appeared, depending on the intensity of the inflammation and the immune response.     The presence of metastatic cervical adenopathy is essential for treatment planning and prognosis assessment. Treatment of patients with head and neck cancer with clinically negative cervical lymphadenopathy (N0) remains controversial. Neck palpation, as the method used in tumor, node, metastasis (TNM) staging, has limitations and can provide false negative results in some cases. Lymph node metastases are associated with a reduced survival rate but at the same time, neck dissection for the patient with N0 neck is not without risks or complications.

    In prospective study, we compared palpation, ultrasonography (US) examination of the neck and histopathological examination in patients with cancers of the pharynx and larynx.

    Forty-six patients with cancers of the pharynx and larynx that presented with a N0 neck were prospectively analyzed. They were divided in two groups 23 patients operated with an external approach including the control of the lymph node areas, and a second group of 23 patients operated us At recurrence alone, the US confirmed 100% presence of nodes metastases.

Such phases further possess different dielectric constants, which is also promising for memcapacitor devices.We present the first search for gravitational waves from the coalescence of stellar mass and subsolar mass black holes with masses between 20-100  M_⊙ and 0.01-1  M_⊙(10-10^3  M_J), respectively. The observation of a single subsolar mass black hole would establish the existence of primordial black holes and a possible component of dark matter. We search the ∼164 day of public LIGO data from 2015-2017 when LIGO-Hanford and LIGO-Livingston were simultaneously observing. We find no significant candidate gravitational-wave signals. Using this nondetection, we place a 90% upper limit on the rate of 30-0.01  M_⊙ and 30-0.1  M_⊙ mergers at less then 1.2×10^6 and less then 1.6×10^4  Gpc^-3  yr^-1, respectively. If we consider binary formation through direct gravitational-wave braking, this kind of merger would be exceedingly rare if only the lighter black hole were primordial in origin ( less then 10^-4  Gpc^-3  yr^-1).     We identified 17 SAEs in 14 patients diagnosed with generalized lymphatic anomaly (n=4), Gorham-Stout disease (n=2), central conducting lymphatic anomaly (n=1), lymphatic malformation (n=4), tufted angioma (n=1), kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (n=1), and venous malformation in a patient with CLOVES syndrome (n=1). Three patients presented two SAEs each. The age at initiation of sirolimus therapy was under 2years (n=5), 2-6years (n=5), and older than 12years (n=4). SAEs occurred during the first 3months of sirolimus therapy (n=7), between 3 and 12months (n=7) and after 1year of therapy (n=3). The most frequent SAE was viray in early infancy. Group B was given cefazolin sodium 1g preoperatively and every eight hours for 48 hours postoperatively, after which they were provided with oral amoxicillin for three days. Both groups were assessed for SSIs for one year postoperatively using the Clavien-Dindo classification. SSIs were documented in seven patients in Group A and six in Group B, with no significant difference between the groups. The two regimens had no significant association with SSI.     To study the changes in hemodynamics during the induction stage of systemic mild hypothermia therapy in neonates with moderate to severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE).

    A total of 21 neonates with HIE who underwent systemic mild hypothermia therapy in the Department of Neonatology, Dongguan Children's Hospital Affiliated to Guangdong Medical University, from July 2017 to April 2020 were enrolled. The rectal temperature of the neonates was lowered to 34℃ after 1-2 hours of induction and maintained at this level for 72 hours using a hypothermia blanket. The impedance method was used for noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring, and the changes in heart rate (HR), mean arterial pressure (MAP), stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO), cardiac index (CI), and total peripheral resistance (TPR) from the start of hypothermia induction to the achievement of target rectal temperature (34℃). Our diagnosis was the CSF hypotension, secondary to the fistula opening. The diagnosis was challenging. The child first presented with symptoms of CSF hypotension without evident cause. The discovery of the meningocele led us to hypothesize the opening of a fistula, a rare diagnosis, later confirmed by MRI.

This study is aimed to investigate the compatibility of such classification systems with the pathological diagnosis of nodules and evaluate the contribution of the Shear-wave elastography (SWE) and Doppler ultrasonography (DUS) findings.

    This is a prospective study. Patients with thyroid US exams between December 2017 and April 2019 were included. In the study, eligible 210 nodules from 210 patients were enrolled. For stratification, the conventional B-mode US, SWE and DUS were performed. According to Kwak, American College of Radiology (ACR), and European (EU)-TIRADS, Nodules were classified separately, and a new scoring system whose the criteria was put defined in the study has developed.

    A 28-question descriptive survey was used to identify demographic and practice composition, practice issues, and needs of early career IRs. The survey was distributed to SIR members in the United States (US) (n = 859) within the first 8 years of practice, with 213 respondents (25%).

    Respondents were primarily male (n = 181, 87%), less than 40 years old (n = 156, 73%), in practice for 6 years or less (n = 167, 79%), and satisfied with IR as a career (n = 183, 92.4%). The majority were in academic practice (n = 89, 43.2%) or large private practice group (n = 67, 32.5%). Most respondents read diagnostic imaging daily or weekly (n = 130, 61%). The majority of respondents perform complex procedures regularly including transarterial tumor therapy, percutaneous tumor ablation, peripheral arterial interventions, and biliary interventionsphysicians, they felt that mentorship, identification of barriers facing early career IRs, and networking should be the most important functions of the ECS. Additionally, this same group of IRs report low comfort with the business side of medicine and may benefit from directed content provided by the SIR ECS.

The current National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines and the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics organization, however, recommend evaluation of peritoneal cytology at the time of hysterectomy. This study examined population-based trends, characteristics, and outcomes of peritoneal cytologic sampling for endometrial cancer surgery following the 2009 staging revision in the United States.

  • The literature demonstrates that obtaining a biopsy of the physis may be beneficial for diagnostic purposes. A small biopsy of the epiphyseal plate may allow for earlier detection of certain conditions and be used to monitor the healing of diseased and/or damaged physes. However, due to the fear of a growth arrest in a growing child, biopsies are not currently performed. In this study, we investigated the effects of a biopsy of the epiphyseal plate in 3-month-old lambs. A total of 4.2 mm biopsy samples were captured in the proximal tibiae and distal femora physes. The lambs were monitored 12- and 24-week post-biopsy. Computed tomography (CT) and micro-CT scans were obtained to determine if any angular deformities occurred, while scanning electron microscope (SEM) and histological analysis were utilized to assess the bone response due to the biopsy. The contralateral limbs served as unaltered controls for direct comparison within each lamb. The data demonstrated no signs of angular deformities following a 4.2 mm biopsy of the physis. Bone growth/elongation was confirmed by CT, SEM, and fluorochrome analyses and indicated that the lambs were in fact immature and still growing at the time of the biopsy. Clinical Significance This investigation demonstrated that a small biopsy of the epiphyseal plate can be obtained safely without the cause of growth arrest and angular deformities. The ability to precisely diagnose, treat, and/or monitor at-risk children at an earlier timepoint by way of a biopsy sample could be an important advancement in regard to researching diseased and/or damaged physes.Couple satisfaction has been extensively investigated, but little attention has been paid to the nature and assessment of high-quality, flourishing couple relationships. Particularly, current measures of relationship quality are insensitive at the upper end of the continuum, which in turn hinders progress toward understanding and facilitating flourishing couple relationships. Drawing on concepts developed in positive psychology, we proposed a theoretical framework of couple flourishing that incorporates hedonic and eudemonic components. Items to assess these aspects of couple flourishing were generated and administered online to a sample of 1,116 participants. Using combined methods of classical test theory and item response theory (IRT), we selected the most informative items to form 4-, 8-, 16-item versions of a Couple Flourishing Measure (CFM). IRT analyses show that the CFM discriminated variation at the upper range of relationship quality better than widely used measures of relationship satisfaction. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that couple flourishing was related to, but distinguishable from, relationship satisfaction. In an independent sample of 330 participants, we replicated the unifactorial structure of the CFM, and the distinguishability of couple flourishing from couple satisfaction. This research offers new insight into the concept of relationship flourishing. The sensitivity of the CFM at the high end of relationship quality makes it possible to test for predictors of relationship flourishing and evaluate interventions that seek to enhance flourishing.In this work, high-speed micellar electrokinetic chromatography with LIF detection was applied to study the antagonism between three intestinal bacteria, Escherichia coli (E. coli), Bacillus licheniformis (B. licheniformis) and Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis). The fluorescent derivatization for the bacteria was performed by labeling the bacteria with FITC. In a high-speed capillary electrophoresis (HSCE) device, the three bacteria could be completely separated within 4 min under the separation mode MEKC. The BGE was 1 × TBE containing 30 mM SDS and 1.5 × 10-5 g/mL polyethylene oxide.     The literature demonstrates that obtaining a biopsy of the physis may be beneficial for diagnostic purposes. A small biopsy of the epiphyseal plate may allow for earlier detection of certain conditions and be used to monitor the healing of diseased and/or damaged physes. However, due to the fear of a growth arrest in a growing child, biopsies are not currently performed. In this study, we investigated the effects of a biopsy of the epiphyseal plate in 3-month-old lambs. A total of 4.2 mm biopsy samples were captured in the proximal tibiae and distal femora physes. The lambs were monitored 12- and 24-week post-biopsy. Computed tomography (CT) and micro-CT scans were obtained to determine if any angular deformities occurred, while scanning electron microscope (SEM) and histological analysis were utilized to assess the bone response due to the biopsy. The contralateral limbs served as unaltered controls for direct comparison within each lamb. The data demonstrated no signs of angular deformities following a 4.2 mm biopsy of the physis. Bone growth/elongation was confirmed by CT, SEM, and fluorochrome analyses and indicated that the lambs were in fact immature and still growing at the time of the biopsy. Clinical Significance This investigation demonstrated that a small biopsy of the epiphyseal plate can be obtained safely without the cause of growth arrest and angular deformities. The ability to precisely diagnose, treat, and/or monitor at-risk children at an earlier timepoint by way of a biopsy sample could be an important advancement in regard to researching diseased and/or damaged physes.Couple satisfaction has been extensively investigated, but little attention has been paid to the nature and assessment of high-quality, flourishing couple relationships. Particularly, current measures of relationship quality are insensitive at the upper end of the continuum, which in turn hinders progress toward understanding and facilitating flourishing couple relationships. Drawing on concepts developed in positive psychology, we proposed a theoretical framework of couple flourishing that incorporates hedonic and eudemonic components. Items to assess these aspects of couple flourishing were generated and administered online to a sample of 1,116 participants. Using combined methods of classical test theory and item response theory (IRT), we selected the most informative items to form 4-, 8-, 16-item versions of a Couple Flourishing Measure (CFM). IRT analyses show that the CFM discriminated variation at the upper range of relationship quality better than widely used measures of relationship satisfaction. Confirmatory factor analysis showed that couple flourishing was related to, but distinguishable from, relationship satisfaction. In an independent sample of 330 participants, we replicated the unifactorial structure of the CFM, and the distinguishability of couple flourishing from couple satisfaction. This research offers new insight into the concept of relationship flourishing. The sensitivity of the CFM at the high end of relationship quality makes it possible to test for predictors of relationship flourishing and evaluate interventions that seek to enhance flourishing.In this work, high-speed micellar electrokinetic chromatography with LIF detection was applied to study the antagonism between three intestinal bacteria, Escherichia coli (E. coli), Bacillus licheniformis (B. licheniformis) and Bacillus subtilis (B. subtilis). The fluorescent derivatization for the bacteria was performed by labeling the bacteria with FITC. In a high-speed capillary electrophoresis (HSCE) device, the three bacteria could be completely separated within 4 min under the separation mode MEKC. The BGE was 1 × TBE containing 30 mM SDS and 1.5 × 10-5 g/mL polyethylene oxide.
