Total hip and knee arthroplasties are increasingly performed operations, and routine follow-up places huge demands on orthopedic services. This study investigates the effectiveness, patients' satisfaction, and cost reduction of Virtual Joint Replacement Clinic (VJRC) follow-up of total hip arthroplasty and total knee arthroplasty patients in a university hospital. VJRC is especially valuable when in-person appointments are not advised or feasible such as during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 1749 patients who were invited for VJRC follow-up for knee or hip arthroplasty from January 2017 to December 2018 were included in this retrospective study. Patients were referred to VJRC after their 6-week postoperative review. Routine VJRC postoperative review was undertaken at 1 and 7 years and then 3-yearly thereafter. We evaluated the VJRC patient response rate, acceptability, and outcome. Patient satisfaction was measured in a subgroup of patients using a satisfaction survey. VJRC costs were calculated compared to face-to-face follow-up.
The VJRC had a 92.05% overall response rate. Only 7.22% required further in-person appointments with only 3% being reviewed by an orthopedic consultant. VJRC resulted in an estimated saving of £42,644 per year at our institution. The patients' satisfaction survey showed that 89.29% of the patients were either satisfied or very satisfied with VJRC follow-up.

Diagnosing periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) in patients with a periprosthetic fracture can be challenging due to concerns regarding the reliability of commonly used serum and synovial fluid markers. This study aimed at determining the diagnostic performance of serum and synovial fluid markers for diagnosing PJI in patients with a periprosthetic fracture of a total joint arthroplasty.
A total of 144 consecutive patients were included (1) 41 patients with concomitant PJI and periprosthetic fracture and (2) 103 patients with periprosthetic fracture alone. Serum markers erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP), and synovial markers white blood cell (WBC) count and polymorphonuclear percentage were assessed.
ESR demonstrated 87% sensitivity and 48% specificity at the Musculoskeletal Infection Society threshold, area under the curve (AUC) of 0.74, and optimal threshold of 45.5 mm/h (76% sensitivity, 68% specificity). CRP showed 94% sensitivity and 40% specificity, AUC of 0.68 withg the Musculoskeletal Infection Society thresholds, ESR, CRP, and WBC count showed high sensitivity, yet low specificity, thus higher thresholds and utilizing all serum and synovial markers in combination should be considered.

Patients (N= 345) completed the Hip injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score or the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score to examine their preoperative and postoperative pain, stiffness, and function, presurgery, and 3, 6, and 12 months postsurgery. Presurgery anxiety and depressive symptoms were assessed using the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale and the 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire. Latent trajectory analysis was used to identify different subgroups in trajectories. The step-3 method was used to assess subgroup characteristics.
The effect of time on pain, function, and stiffness was different between subgroups of patients. Knee patients belonged mainly to classes with least improvement. Least improvement in pain was characterized by a combination of high levels of both anxiety and depressive symptoms. Anxiety and depressive symptoms were independently related to less reduction in stiffness while little improvement in function was characterized by higher depressive symptoms.

Exosomes are emerging as important mediators of the cross-talk between tumor cells and the microenvironment. The communication between tumor-derived exosomes and macrophages has a critical role in facilitating tumor progression. However, the mechanisms by which exosomes modulate tumor development in lung cancer are not fully understood.
Short hairpin RNA mediated knockdown or exogenous expression of TRIM59 combined with in vitro and in vivo assays were performed to prove the functional significance of TRIM59. Western blotting, real-time PCR, co-immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence (IF) staining assays, proximity ligation assay (PLA), ubiquitination assays, lactate secretion and lipid droplets content measurement, and rescue experiments were used to evaluate the mechanism. Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) cells were injected via subcutaneously or tail vein into C57BL/6 wild-type (WT) and transgenic **** to assess the role of TRIM59 in vivo.

Triatomines are hematophagous insects that play an important role as vectors of Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas disease. These insects have adapted to multiple blood-feeding sources that can affect relevant aspects of their life-cycle and interactions, thereby influencing parasitic transmission dynamics. We conducted a characterization of the feeding sources of individuals from the primary circulating triatomine genera in Colombia using amplicon-based next-generation sequencing (NGS).
We used 42 triatomines collected in different departments of Colombia. DNA was extracted from the gut. The presence of T. cruzi was identified using real-time PCR, and discrete typing units (DTUs) were determined by conventional PCR. For blood-feeding source identification, PCR products of the vertebrate 12S rRNA gene were obtained and sequenced by next-generation sequencing (NGS). Blood-meal sources were inferred using blastn against a curated reference dataset containing the 12S rRNA sequences belonging tocted in different regions of Colombia. Our findings report a striking read diversity that has not been reported previously. This is a powerful approach to unravel transmission dynamics at microgeographical levels.

Anaplastic astrocytoma is a rare disorder in children from 10 to 14 years of age, with an estimated 0.38 new cases per 100,000 people per year worldwide. Panel-based next-generation sequencing opens new possibilities for diagnosis and therapy of rare diseases such as this one. Because it has never been genetically studied in the Ecuadorian population, we chose to genetically characterize an Ecuadorian pediatric patient with anaplastic astrocytoma for the first time. Doing so allows us to provide new insights into anaplastic astrocytoma diagnosis and treatment.
Our patient was a 13-year-old Mestizo girl with an extensive family history of cancer who was diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma. According to ClinVar, SIFT, and PolyPhen, the patient harbored 354 genomic alterations in 100 genes. These variants were mostly implicated in deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) repair. The top five most altered genes were FANCD2, NF1, FANCA, FANCI, and WRN. Even though TP53 presented only five mutations, the rs11540652 single-nucleotide polymorphism classified as pathogenic was found in the patient and her relatives; interestingly, several reports have related it to Li-Fraumeni syndrome.

Temporal and spatial heterogeneity in the distribution of cladocerans in lakes could be caused by abiotic (wind, water currents) and biotic factors (reproduction, food resources, predation). Diel horizontal and vertical distribution of cladoceran assemblages was studied in two deep lakes (Milada and Most Lakes, Czech Republic) in early (June) and late (September) summer. The objective was to study diel vertical migration (DVM) and diel horizontal migration (DHM) of cladocerans under conditions of different macrophyte cover in littoral areas (rich in Milada Lake, poor in Most Lake) and fish assemblages (non-specialised planktivorous species in Milada Lake, and abundant planktivorous fish - maraena whitefish, Coregonus maraena - in open water habitats in Most Lake). The fishing ground footprint is one of the components of the ecological footprint. Nevertheless, it has not been investigated very **** from an empirical viewpoint. We contribute to the existing literature on fishing ground footprint by using fractional integration techniques to examine the persistence of the series. Our results are very heterogeneous across countries though we find that most of the series are nonstationary and non-mean reverting, with most of the countries belonging to the upper-middle and high income levels. On the other hand, most of the 14.4% of countries that show a stationary pattern belong to lower-middle and low income countries. Temporal and spatial heterogeneity in the distribution of cladocerans in lakes could be caused by abiotic (wind, water currents) and biotic factors (reproduction, food resources, predation). Diel horizontal and vertical distribution of cladoceran assemblages was studied in two deep lakes (Milada and Most Lakes, Czech Republic) in early (June) and late (September) summer. The objective was to study diel vertical migration (DVM) and diel horizontal migration (DHM) of cladocerans under conditions of different macrophyte cover in littoral areas (rich in Milada Lake, poor in Most Lake) and fish assemblages (non-specialised planktivorous species in Milada Lake, and abundant planktivorous fish - maraena whitefish, Coregonus maraena - in open water habitats in Most Lake). Our results are very heterogeneous across countries though we find that most of the series are nonstationary and non-mean reverting, with most of the countries belonging to the upper-middle and high income levels. On the other hand, most of the 14.4% of countries that show a stationary pattern belong to lower-middle and low income countries. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of bivalirudin on endothelial cell proliferation and neointimal hyperplasia in a rabbit carotid artery model.
"New Zealand rabbits (n = 12)" weighing 2-3kg were randomly divided into two groups. Arteriotomy was performed to the rabbit carotid artery and closed with continuous suture technique. Group B (n = 6) as a control group received 150U/kg heparin sodium; however, group A (n = 6) was given 0.75mg/kg bivalirudin i.v. bolus and infusion 1.75mg/kg/hour (B01AE06-Bivalirudin 250mg) during perioperation period. At the end of the 28th day, the carotid artery segment was excised and evaluated histologically.
All histological and immune staining analyzes were performed by two blind researchers in the treatment of rabbits. In the control group rabbit carotid artery sections, tunica intima was observed to thicken. In the bivalirudin group, intimal hyperplasia was less observed compared to the control group. No significant difference was observed between groups in tunica media thickness. Lumen diameter and lumen area were found to be wider in the experimental group. P value was found to be less than 0.05.

Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a noninvasive detection technology have become a research hotspot in the field of precision medicine. However, CTC detection faces great challenges with respect to specificity and sensitivity.
We divided 39 subjects into three groups renal carcinoma, renal stones and healthy persons. Using subtraction enrichment (SE) combined with immunostaining-fluorescence in situ hybridization technology, we identified and characterized CTCs. CTCs were identified as DAPI +/CD45-/PanCK + (-). We explored whether the number of CTCs was related to clinicopathological factors and their clinical application.
The CTC count in the renal carcinoma group (29/39) was 86.20% using a cut-off value of 1 CTC, which was significantly higher than that of other technologies in detecting CTCs, demonstrating that SE-iFISH technology can be used for CTC detection. The CTC count was **** higher in the renal carcinoma group than that in the other control groups, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.931 (95% confidence interval 0.851 to 1.000, P < 0.01). In addition, the tetraploid count on chromosome 8 of T4 stage renal carcinoma was **** higher than that of other stages (T1-T3), which may suggest that tetraploid count could be a marker of renal carcinoma prognosis and influence treatment decisions for better clinical management.

This review brings together recent key research related to the role of fisheries as a source of nutrients to improve human health and discusses the implications of fisheries policy on food- and nutrient-security.
Recent studies highlight the critical role of fisheries to support human nutrition, describing the nutrient composition of hundreds of species of fish, the global distribution of these fish, and the strategic role of fisheries in addressing micronutrient deficiencies. In many developing regions and emerging economies, fisheries can address malnutrition with local supplies of critical nutrients such as fatty acids, zinc, iron, calcium, and vitamins, making these accessible to low-income populations. However, this local potential is jeopardized by overfishing, climate change, and international trade, which reduce the local availability of nutritious and affordable fish in low-income countries, where they are most needed. This calls for policy reforms that shift management focus of fisheries as a commodity provider to a domestic public health asset to ensure food- and nutrient-security.
Recent studies highlight the critical role of fisheries to support human nutrition, describing the nutrient composition of hundreds of species of fish, the global distribution of these fish, and the strategic role of fisheries in addressing micronutrient deficiencies. In many developing regions and emerging economies, fisheries can address malnutrition with local supplies of critical nutrients such as fatty acids, zinc, iron, calcium, and vitamins, making these accessible to low-income populations. However, this local potential is jeopardized by overfishing, climate change, and international trade, which reduce the local availability of nutritious and affordable fish in low-income countries, where they are most needed. This calls for policy reforms that shift management focus of fisheries as a commodity provider to a domestic public health asset to ensure food- and nutrient-security.This study focuses on the multimodal communication of children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) compared to typically developing (TD) children. Eleven children with ASD (aged from 28 to 79 months) and 11 TD children (from 12 to 30 months) were matched by their productive vocabulary. We observed their communicative production in a semi-structured play situation. Results showed no differences in the combinations of gestural and vocal elements between children with ASD and TD. By contrast, regarding the production of the three-element multimodal combinations, we found a different pattern between ASD and TD children depending on their lexical development. These results provide clues to understand some controversial findings regarding multimodal production of people with ASD described in the literature.

To evaluate the current evidence for the effectiveness of transarterial embolization (TAE) in treatment of symptomatic hepatic hemangiomas.
A systematic literature review was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL and Scopus databases to identify studies of hepatic hemangiomas treated with transarterial embolization. Main outcome was defined as the mean difference between pre- and post-TAE hemangioma diameters. Treatment agents were categorized as Lipiodol based [bleomycin (L + BE), pingyangmycin (L + PYG) or ethanol (L + ethanol)] and non-Lipiodol based (polyvinyl-alcohol-only). Conventional random-effect meta-analysis technique was applied to analyze data.
Of 3080 initially inspected publications, 21 studies were included in the meta-analysis comprising of 1450 patients with total of 1871 hemangiomas (36.2% male, mean age 46.3 ± 3.6years). One hundred and twenty-six, 1666, 41 and 38 lesions were treated with L + BE, L + PYG, L + ethanol and PVA, respectively. Median follow-up time after embolization was 12months with Lipiodol is safe and associated with reduced size of hemangiomas resulting in symptoms alleviation.A woman with an upper extremity brachioaxillary arteriovenous dialysis graft presented with a 9-month history of profound ipsilateral arm swelling and numbness secondary to chronic axillosubclavian vein occlusion. The hemodialysis graft regained function. Upper extremity symptoms resolved within 48 h. This is the first reported percutaneous double-barrel technique of extra-anatomic venous bypass creation for simultaneous management of a failed dialysis access and chronic venous occlusive disease.
To search for abscopal effects (AE) distant to the site of radiation after sequential Yittrium-90 (Y-90) radioembolization (RE) of liver malignancies.
In this retrospective analysis, all patients treated by RE between 2007 and 2018 (n = 907) were screened for the following setting/conditions sequential RE of left and right liver lobe in two sessions, liver-specific MRI (MRI1) acquired max. 10days before or after first RE (RE1), liver-specific MRI (MRI2) acquired with a minimum time interval of 20days after MRI1, but before second RE (RE2). No systemic tumor therapies between MRI1 and MRI2. No patients with liver cirrhosis. Metastases > 5mm in untreated liver lobes were compared in MRI1 and MRI2 and rated as follows same size or larger in MRI2 = no abscopal effect (NAE); > 30% shrinkage without Y-90 contamination in SPECT/CT = abscopal effect (AE).
Ninety six of 907 patients met aforementioned criteria. Median time-frame between RE1 and MRI2 was 34 (20-64) days. These 96 cases had 765 metastases which were evaluable (median 5(1-40) metastases per patient). Four patients could be identified with at least one shrinking metastasis of the untreated site one patient with breast cancer (3 metastases 0 NAE; 3 AE), one patient with prostate cancer (6 metastases 3 NAE; 3 metastases > 30% shrinkage but possible Y-90 contamination) and two patients with shrinkage of one metastasis each but less than 30%.

Gingival tissue enlargement is a common side effect of antiepileptic medications (e.g. phenytoin and sodium valproate), immunosuppressing drugs (e.g. cyclosporine) and calcium channel blockers (e.g. nifedipine, verapamil, amlodipine) (Murakami et al. 2018, Clin Periodontol 45S17-S27, 2018). The clinical and histological appearances of lesions caused by these drugs are indistinguishable from one another (Murakami et al. 2018, Clin Periodontol 45S17-S27, 2018). Drug-induced gingival enlargement is rarely seen in edentulous patients.
This case presents a 72-year-old female with a history of squamous cell carcinoma of the floor of the mouth treated with surgical excision and fibula-free flap reconstruction. Following the uncovering of osseointegrated implants placed in the fibular-free flap, the patient developed gingival enlargement of the floor of the mouth. Cessation of amlodipine and switching to an alternative medication lead to a resolution of the enlarged tissue.
This case illustrates that gingival enlargement can occur around dental implants, most notably in rehabilitation cases in patients who have had head and neck cancer. Clinicians should be aware of the risk of gingival enlargement in hypertensive patients taking calcium channel blockers prior to implant placement.

To evaluate the current evidence for the effectiveness of transarterial embolization (TAE) in treatment of symptomatic hepatic hemangiomas. A systematic literature review was conducted in PubMed, CINAHL and Scopus databases to identify studies of hepatic hemangiomas treated with transarterial embolization. Main outcome was defined as the mean difference between pre- and post-TAE hemangioma diameters. Treatment agents were categorized as Lipiodol based [bleomycin (L + BE), pingyangmycin (L + PYG) or ethanol (L + ethanol)] and non-Lipiodol based (polyvinyl-alcohol-only). Conventional random-effect meta-analysis technique was applied to analyze data. Of 3080 initially inspected publications, 21 studies were included in the meta-analysis comprising of 1450 patients with total of 1871 hemangiomas (36.2% male, mean age 46.3 ± 3.6years). One hundred and twenty-six, 1666, 41 and 38 lesions were treated with L + BE, L + PYG, L + ethanol and PVA, respectively. Cessation of amlodipine and switching to an alternative medication lead to a resolution of the enlarged tissue. We analyzed data from 24 population-based surveys from the Biomarkers Reflecting Inflammation and Nutritional Determinants of Anemia project (separately by survey; n=226 to n=7166). We defined intraindividual DBM as coexisting OWOB and ≥1 micronutrient deficiency [e.g., Micronutrient Deficiency Index (MDI)>0; DBM-MDI] or anemia (DBM-Anemia). We assessed independence of DBM components with the Rao-Scott chi-square test and examined predictors of DBM and its compt increase as child OWOB increases. The analysis does not support the hypothesis that DBM components cluster within individuals, suggesting that population-level DBM may be addressed by programs to reduce DBM components without targeting individuals with DBM.

We aimed to assess the associations between anemia and household water source or sanitation in preschool children (PSC; age 6-59 mo) using population-based surveys from the Biomarkers Reflecting Inflammation and Nutritional Determinants of Anemia (BRINDA) project.
We analyzed national and subnational data from 21 surveys, representing 19 countries (n = 35,963). Observations with hemoglobin (Hb) and ≥1 variable reflecting household water source or sanitation were included. Anemia was defined as an altitude-adjusted Hb concentration <110 g/L. Household water source and sanitation variables were dichotomized as "improved" or "unimproved." Poisson regressions with robust variance estimates were conducted for each survey, adjusting for child sex, age, household socioeconomic status, maternal education, and type of residence.
Access to an improved water source and improved sanitation ranged from 29.9% (Burkina Faso)e conditions across countries to inform anemia reduction programs.

Impaired self-awareness (SA) is a common symptom after suffering acquired brain injury (ABI) which interferes with patient's rehabilitation and their functional independence. SA is associated with executive function and declarative memory, two cognitive functions that are related to participants' daily living functionality. Through this observational study, we aim to explore whether SA may play a moderator role in the relation between these two cognitive processes and functional independence.
A sample of 69 participants with ABI completed a neuropsychological assessment focused on executive function and declarative memory which also included a measure of SA and functional independence. Two separated linear models were performed including functional independence, SA, and two neuropsychological factors (declarative memory and executive function) derived from a previous principal component analysis.
Moderation analysis show a significant interaction between SA and executive function, reflecting an association between lower executive functioning and poorer functional outcome, only in participants with low levels of SA. Notwithstanding, declarative memory do not show a significant interaction with SA, even though higher declarative memory scores were associated with better functional independence.
SA seems to play a moderator effect between executive function, but not declarative memory, and functional independence. Accordingly, participants with executive deficits and low levels of SA might benefit from receiving specific SA interventions in the first instance, which would in turn positively impact on their functional independence.

Sixteen sheep received a bolus infusion of QA (75 µL, 180 mM) or saline, first into the left and then (4 weeks later) into the right striatum. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) of the striata were performed. Metabolite concentrations and fractional anisotropy (FA) were measured at baseline, acutely (1 week after each surgery) and chronically (5 weeks or greater after the surgeries). There was a significant decrease in the neuronal marker N-acetylaspartate (NAA) and in FA in acutely lesioned striata of the QA-lesioned sheep, followed by a recovery of NAA and FA in the chronically lesioned striata. NAA level changes indicate acute death and/or impairment of neurons immediately after surgery, with recovery of reversibly impaired neurons over time. The change in FA values of the QA-lesioned striata is consistent with acute structural disruption, followed by re-organization and glial cell infiltration with time.

Ten subjects underwent filler injections in the bilateral dorsal hands with large-particle hyaluronic acid filler. Photographs of the hands were taken at baseline and 2 weeks after the optimal correction result. A survey to evaluate first impressions was then completed by blinded evaluators on defined categories of perception.
A total of 209 evaluators completed the first impression questionnaire. Overall, 10,032 individual assessments of first impressions were completed. There was a significant improvement in mean first impressions in all categories of perception and overall first impression scores.
Cosmetic treatments to the hands is a growing field with the use of hyaluronic acid fillers to restore volume, decrease wrinkles, and improve the appearance of prominent veins. This study revealed an improvement in first impression scores in all categories following treatment with large-particle hyaluronic acid filler to the dorsal hands.

To determine the incidence of complications associated with Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) in patients aged 85 and older, and the risk factors that predispose to complications.
A 9-year retrospective chart review of patients aged 85 and older who underwent MMS at our institution between 07/2007 and 11/2016 was performed. Six types of complications associated with scalpel-based cutaneous surgery were recorded, as well as patient, tumor, and repair characteristics.
This study included 949 patients totaling in 1683 MMS cases. There were 30 complications infection (N = 11), wound dehiscence (N = 6), hematoma (N = 6), hemorrhage (N = 5), flap necrosis (N = 1), and graft necrosis (N = 1), resulting in an overall complication rate of 1.78%. Independent risk factors associated with a statistically higher incidence of complications were anticoagulant use (odds ratio [OR], 2.78; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.26-6.13; p = .012), extremity location (OR, 2.80; 95% CI, 1.19-6.54; p = .018), greater than 2 MMS stages (OR, 2.43; 95% CI, 1.08-5.46; p = .032), and flap repair (OR, 2.27; 95% CI, 1.05-4.90; p = .036).

Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is under used in the treatment of nail unit melanoma in situ (MIS), with limited studies in the literature.
Report clinical outcomes for nail unit MIS using MMS with melanoma antigen recognized by T cells-1 (MART-1) immunostaining.
A retrospective observational study at a single academic institution of patients with a diagnosis of nail unit MIS treated with MMS with MART-1 immunostaining from January 1, 2006, to December 30, 2016. The primary outcome measure was the recurrence rate after MMS.
Fourteen patients were identified. With an average follow-up of 6.0 years (71.6 months; range = 5-139 months), 1 patient developed recurrence 6.6 years after undergoing initial MMS, requiring amputation with no further treatment or recurrence thereafter.

The evolution of the Mohs technique over time, namely, using MART-1 immunostaining, has led to improvement in treatment outcomes. The demographic characteristics and transmission dynamics of the community-acquired coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Taiwan were analyzed for more effective control and prevention of the community transmission of this novel disease.
Open-access data and press releases on COVID-19 in Taiwan were collected on the website of the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control. All 55 community-acquired cases of COVID-19 confirmed from January 28 to April 12, 2020, in Taiwan were included. Basic demographic characteristics, symptom presentation, infection source, route of identification, and transmission dynamics were analyzed.
Of the 55 cases, 52.7% were female and 74.5% were between 20-59 years of age. One-sixth (16.4%) of community-acquired cases were asymptomatic. More than half (58.2%) of the cases were identified via contact tracing. The median incubation period was 6 days (range 1-13 d) and the median serial interval was 4 days (range -3-24 d). Twenty-six cases (47.3%) were transmitted from presymptomatic cases, 11 cases (20%) from symptomatic cases, and 2 cases (3.6%) from an asymptomatic case. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/brusatol.html The contagious period of symptomatic cases was from 7 days before to 15 days after the onset of symptoms.

A retrospective observational study at a single academic institution of patients with a diagnosis of nail unit MIS treated with MMS with MART-1 immunostaining from January 1, 2006, to December 30, 2016. The primary outcome measure was the recurrence rate after MMS. Fourteen patients were identified. With an average follow-up of 6.0 years (71.6 months; range = 5-139 months), 1 patient developed recurrence 6.6 years after undergoing initial MMS, requiring amputation with no further treatment or recurrence thereafter. The demographic characteristics and transmission dynamics of the community-acquired coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Taiwan were analyzed for more effective control and prevention of the community transmission of this novel disease. Open-access data and press releases on COVID-19 in Taiwan were collected on the website of the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control. All 55 community-acquired cases of COVID-19 confirmed from January 28 to April 12, 2020, in Taiwan were included. Basic demographic characteristics, symptom presentation, infection source, route of identification, and transmission dynamics were analyzed. Of the 55 cases, 52.7% were female and 74.5% were between 20-59 years of age. One-sixth (16.4%) of community-acquired cases were asymptomatic. More than half (58.2%) of the cases were identified via contact tracing. The median incubation period was 6 days (range 1-13 d) and the median serial interval was 4 days (range -3-24 d). The objective of this research was to evaluate the oxidative and histopathological effects of dexmedetomidine and ketamine on the pulmonary contusion model resulting from blunt chest trauma.
Rats were randomly assigned to 5 equal groups (n=6) control group (Group C), pulmonary contusion group (Group PC), PC-dexmedetomidine group (Group PC-D), PC-ketamine group (Group PC-K), and PC-dexmedetomidine + ketamine (Group PC-D+K). The PC was performed by dropping a weight of 500 g (2.45 Joules) from a height of 50 cm. In Group PC-D, after chest trauma, dexmedetomidine (100 µg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally. In Group PC-K, after chest trauma, ketamine (100 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally. In Group PC-D+K, dexmedetomidine and ketamine were administered together. At the end of the 6th hour, rats were sacrificed. Malondialdehyde (MDA) level, superoxide dismutase (***) enzyme activities, neutrophil infiltration/aggregation, and thickness of the alveolar wall were evaluated.

HaCaT cells were transfected with miR-181b-5p antagomir for 24 h, and then exposed to 10 μM Triptolide for 24 h, following by 100 ng/mL of IL22 for 24 h. In addition, the proliferation and cell cycle distribution in HaCaT cells were assessed by immunofluorescence or flow cytometry assays, respectively.
Triptolide obviously upregulated the level of miR-181b-5p in HaCaT cells. In addition, triptolide significantly inhibited IL22-induced proliferation of HaCaT cells via inducing cell cycle arrest. The aim of this research was to evaluate quality of life (QOL) domains through two standardized questionnaires (SF-36 and NEI-VFQ39) in patients treated by upper eyelid gold weight loading compared to healthy individuals (the "healthy" group) as well as patients with other ophthalmologic conditions (the "sick" group).
This prospective comparative clinical study of 416 surveys was conducted in 2012-2018. The study group includes 59 people 40 women, 19 men aged 55.5 ± 17.4 treated with gold weights for corneal complications due to unresolved facial nerve palsy. General QOL was assessed using the SF-36 questionnaire. Eye-related QOL was assessed through the NEI-VFQ39 questionnaire. The results were compared with those obtained in 2 control groups the "healthy" and the "sick," 53 indivlved in this study. Treatment of lagophthalmos by gold weights significantly improved their QOL, with the greatest impact on mental aspects of health.
