    This was a prospective, randomized controlled, double-blind study, evaluating the efficacy and tolerability of red deer umbilical cord-derived stem cell conditioned media (USCCM) cream and serum pre- and post- ablative facial resurfacing.

    Twenty patients with moderate to severe photodamage were randomized to receive vehicle or USCCM cream and serum pre- and post- ablative resurfacing of the face. Blinded investigators rated healing, tolerability, and efficacy, while subjects rated post-procedure symptoms, tolerability, and satisfaction.

    Both the active and vehicle pre-procedure cream were soothing, calming and easy to use by all patients. There was a trend towards decreased facial erythema and crusting in the active versus vehicle group. A greater improvement in wrinkling occurred in the active group.   • Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1), as a key enzyme in the base excision repair pathway, plays a crucial role in tumorigenesis and progression. This study aimed to assess whether polymorphisms of PARP1 gene could be used as predictive biomarkers for the survival of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients from Cixian high-incidence region in northern China.

    In 203 ESCC patients with survival information, PARP1 rs1136410 T/C and rs8679 T/C single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were genotyped by polymerase chain reaction ligase detection reaction (PCR-LDR) method. All statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS ver. 22.0 software package (SPSS, Chicago, IL, USA).

    The mean age ± standard deviation of the ESCC patients was 60.4 ± 7.9 years. There was no significant relation of sex, age, smoking status and upper gastrointestinal cancer family history with the survival time of the ESCC patients. The mean survival time of rs1136410 T/T, T/C and C/C genotype carriers were 43.3, 42.3 and 46.6 months, respectively. The rs1136410 was not associated with the survival time of the ESCC patients. For rs8679, the mean survival time of T/T genotype carriers was 43.7 months, which was not significantly different from that of the patients with T/C genotype (42.1 months).

    In recent years, the lives of HIV-infected patients in Thailand have improved significantly due to continuous advances in treatment. However, the rate of cancer related to HIV infection (especially cervical cancer) is likely to increase. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends Papanicolaou testing in all HIV-infected women, few of these patients receive this kind of screening in Thailand. Therefore, we conducted this study to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of these patients with regard to cervical cancer screening.

    This cross-sectional study was conducted in HIV-infected women aged 18-65 years from April to November 2019 via a self-administered cervical cancer screening questionnaire, which consisted of four parts demographic data, knowledge, attitudes, and practices.

    Three hundred HIV-infected women were recruited. Most of the participants had good attitudes toward screening and practiced adequate screening (75.3% and 71.3%, respectively). However, only 62 participants (20.7%) demonstrated adequate knowledge.     This cross-sectional study involved 168 women diagnosed with breast cancer. The inclusion criteria were age >18 years old, having histologically confirmed breast cancer, and being diagnosed between January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2012. The exclusion criteria were being illiterate and having cognitive impairment. For data collection patients' medical records and the Cancer Behaviour Inventory-Brief (CBI-B) Malay version questionnaire were used. Simple and multiple logistic regression methods were used to analyse the data.

    Patients' mean (SD) age was 51.4 (10.8) years old. Most of the patients were Malays, married, diagnosed at stage 2 breast cancer (41%), and completed their breast cancer treatment. The mean score for self-efficacy for coping with breast cancer was 83.67 (95% CI 81.87, 85.47). The significant factors positively correlated with self-efficacy for coping with breast cancer were higher educational background and a higher family income. However, factors such as a family history of breast cancer and breast surgery reduced the mean score of self-efficacy for coping with breast cancer.

    The detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in respiratory samples collected from persons recovered from COVID-19 does not necessarily indicate shedding of infective virions. By contrast, the isolation of SARS-CoV-2 using cell-based culture likely indicates infectivity, but there are limited data on the correlation between SARS-CoV-2 culture and PCR.

    One hundred and ninety-five patients with varying severity of COVID-19 were tested (outpatients [n=178]), inpatients [n=12] and critically unwell patients admitted to the intensive care unit [ICU; n=5]). SARS-CoV-2 PCR positive samples were cultured in Vero C1008 cells and inspected daily for cytopathic effect (CPE). SARS-CoV-2-induced CPE was confirmed by PCR of culture supernatant. Where no CPE was observed, PCR was performed on day four to confirm absence of virus replication. Cycle threshold (Ct) of the day four PCR (Ctculture) and the PCR of the original clinical sample (Ctsample) were compared, and positive cultures were defined where Ctsample - Ctculture was ≥3.

    Of 234 samples collected, 228 (97%) were from the upper respiratory tract. SARS-CoV-2 was only successfully isolated from samples with Ctsample ≤32, including in 28/181 (15%), 19/42 (45%) and 9/11 samples (82%) collected from outpatients, inpatients, and ICU patients, respectively. The mean duration from symptom onset to culture positivity was 4.5 days (range 0-18).     Systemic inflammation and increased activity of atrial NOX2-containing NADPH oxidases have been associated with the new onset of atrial fibrillation (AF) after cardiac surgery.     Neural methods to extract drug-drug interactions (DDIs) from literature require a large number of annotations. In this study, we propose a novel method to effectively utilize external drug database information as well as information from large-scale plain text for DDI extraction. Specifically, we focus on drug description and molecular structure information as the drug database information.

    We evaluated our approach on the DDIExtraction 2013 shared task data set. We obtained the following results. First, large-scale raw text information can greatly improve the performance of extracting DDIs when combined with the existing model and it shows the state-of-the-art performance. Second, each of drug description and molecular structure information is helpful to further improve the DDI performance for some specific DDI types. Finally, the simultaneous use of the drug description and molecular structure information can significantly improve the performance on all the DDI types. We showed that the plain text, the drug description information, and molecular structure information are complementary and their effective combination are essential for the improvement.

    In simulation studies and analysis of real data from the genotype-tissue expression (GTEx) project, we compared and evaluated the performance of RobNorm against other normalization methods. Cycle threshold (Ct) of the day four PCR (Ctculture) and the PCR of the original clinical sample (Ctsample) were compared, and positive cultures were defined where Ctsample - Ctculture was ≥3. Of 234 samples collected, 228 (97%) were from the upper respiratory tract. SARS-CoV-2 was only successfully isolated from samples with Ctsample ≤32, including in 28/181 (15%), 19/42 (45%) and 9/11 samples (82%) collected from outpatients, inpatients, and ICU patients, respectively. In this paper, we reported the mm-scale mapping of Fe, As and other associated elements across the redox gradient in the SWI of five different paddy soils. The results showed a strong positive linear relationship between dissolved Fe, Mn, As, and phosphorus (P) in 4 out of the 5 paddy soils, indicating the general coupling of these elements. However, decoupling of Fe, Mn and As was observed in one of the paddy soils. In this soil, distinct releasing profiles of Mn, As and Fe were observed, and the releasing order followed the redox ladder. Further investigation of As species showed the ratio of arsenite to total As dropped from 100% to 75.5% and then kept stable along depth of the soil profile, which indicates a dynamic equilibrium between arsenite oxidization and arsenate reduction. It allows users from beginners to experts to conduct ERA without any preparation because all the necessary ecotoxicity test data and methodologies are available in the system. Approximately 270,000 ecotoxicity test data points for 3900 chemical substances together with the scientific methodologies from traditional simple hazard quotient (HQ) to more ecologically relevant complicated assessments such as species sensitivity distribution (SSD) and population-level assessment are embedded in the AIST-MeRAM.   • The ongoing pandemic of COVID-19 has led to severe disruption of healthcare services worldwide. We conducted this study to assess the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the management of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) patients who were enrolled in the nation-wide inception cohort.

    A questionnaire was administered to the SLE patients enrolled in the inception cohort. Questions related to the effect on disease activity, preventive measures adopted against COVID-19, the incidence of COVID-19, hardships faced in getting access to health care professionals and availability of medicines, adherence, fear of COVID-19 and the potential benefits of being part of the registry.

    A total of 1040 (90% females) patients completed the questionnaire. The mean age was 27.5 ± 19.1 years and the mean disease duration was 1.25 years. Twenty-Four (2.3%) patients had developed fever (>1 day) during this period, including one patient with additional symptoms of diarrhoea and anosmia, however, none of the patients developed Cs.

    To provide normative data and examine form equivalency of the Brief Visuospatial Memory Test-Revised (BVMT-R) in a sample of 9
    decade adults.
    The sample was comprised of 90 healthy individuals ages 80-84 (n = 42) and 85-89 (n = 48). The average years of education was 14.8 (2.4). The BVMT-R Forms 1 and 4 were administered in a counterbalanced order, one week apart. Form equivalency was conducted utilizing Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
    There were no significant gender, education, or MMSE differences between the two age groups or between the counterbalanced subgroups. There were no significant differences between Forms 1 and 4 for the 80-84 age group. However, BVMT-R Form 1 Trial 1 and Total Recall raw scores were significantly higher than those for Form 4 in the 85-89 age group.

    A budget impact model was developed to investigate the impact of introducing pegfilgrastim biosimilar over 5 years. The model analysed drug acquisition costs, ambulatory costs, as well as costs associated with poor outcomes, and compared the current standard practice of long-acting and short-acting G-CSF to a revised practice including pegfilgrastim biosimilar in addition to standard practice treatments. The cost of switching to pegfilgrastim biosimilar, within a pharmacy setting, was analysed within the model using data from a survey of French pharmacists.

    The budget impact model calculated a cost saving of €51,007,531 over 5 years switching from the current standard practice to pegfilgrastim biosimilar. A sensitivity analysis accounting for variation in pegfilgrastim biosimilar uptake of 1) 15% in year 1 and 1% in years 2-5 and 2) 15% in years 1-5, estimated savings ranging between €29,377,784 and €79,847,194, respectively. Readability plays an integral role in health literacy as complex health information may be inaccessible to those with low health literacy. The aim of this study is to determine the readability of Canadian patient education material (PEM) for oncology related pharmaceutics.

    Eighty PEMs from Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) and ** Cancer (BCC) were evaluated for their reading level using a Ford, Caylor, Sticht (FORCAST) analysis. Twenty therapies were then randomly selected and converted to plain text to be analyzed further using the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level (FKGL), the Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (SMOG) Index, the Coleman-Liau Index (CLI), and the Gunning Fog Index (GFI).

We conducted this study to assess the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the management of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) patients who were enrolled in the nation-wide inception cohort. A questionnaire was administered to the SLE patients enrolled in the inception cohort. Questions related to the effect on disease activity, preventive measures adopted against COVID-19, the incidence of COVID-19, hardships faced in getting access to health care professionals and availability of medicines, adherence, fear of COVID-19 and the potential benefits of being part of the registry. A total of 1040 (90% females) patients completed the questionnaire. The mean age was 27.5 ± 19.1 years and the mean disease duration was 1.25 years. Twenty-Four (2.3%) patients had developed fever (>1 day) during this period, including one patient with additional symptoms of diarrhoea and anosmia, however, none of the patients developed Cs. To provide normative data and examine form equivalency of the Brief Visuospatial Memory Test-Revised (BVMT-R) in a sample of 9 decade adults. The sample was comprised of 90 healthy individuals ages 80-84 (n = 42) and 85-89 (n = 48). The average years of education was 14.8 (2.4). The BVMT-R Forms 1 and 4 were administered in a counterbalanced order, one week apart. Form equivalency was conducted utilizing Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). There were no significant gender, education, or MMSE differences between the two age groups or between the counterbalanced subgroups. There were no significant differences between Forms 1 and 4 for the 80-84 age group. However, BVMT-R Form 1 Trial 1 and Total Recall raw scores were significantly higher than those for Form 4 in the 85-89 age group. To assess the economic impact of introducing biosimilar pegfilgrastim compared to the current standard granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) practice in France. A budget impact model was developed to investigate the impact of introducing pegfilgrastim biosimilar over 5 years. The model analysed drug acquisition costs, ambulatory costs, as well as costs associated with poor outcomes, and compared the current standard practice of long-acting and short-acting G-CSF to a revised practice including pegfilgrastim biosimilar in addition to standard practice treatments. The cost of switching to pegfilgrastim biosimilar, within a pharmacy setting, was analysed within the model using data from a survey of French pharmacists. Readability plays an integral role in health literacy as complex health information may be inaccessible to those with low health literacy. The aim of this study is to determine the readability of Canadian patient education material (PEM) for oncology related pharmaceutics. Eighty PEMs from Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) and BC Cancer (BCC) were evaluated for their reading level using a Ford, Caylor, Sticht (FORCAST) analysis. Twenty therapies were then randomly selected and converted to plain text to be analyzed further using the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level (FKGL), the Simple Measure of Gobbledygook (SMOG) Index, the Coleman-Liau Index (CLI), and the Gunning Fog Index (GFI).   • Given the burden of migraine and its disproportionate distribution, the underlying cause(s) for the observed differences between sexes in the incidence, frequency, and intensity of migraine attacks must be better understood. Relevant biological as well as behavioral differences must be taken into account. To evaluate the scope of the existing knowledge on the issue of biological sex as well as gender differences in migraine, we conducted a systematized review of the currently available research. The review seeks to harmonize existing knowledge on the topic across the domains of biological/preclinical, clinical, and population-level research, which are traditionally synthesized and interpreted in isolation. Ultimately, we identify knowledge gaps and set priorities for further interdisciplinary and informed research on sex and gender differences as well as gender-specific therapies in migraine.Objective Cerebellar diseases frequently affect the ocular motor neural velocity-to-position integrator by increasing its leakiness and thereby causing gaze-evoked nystagmus (GEN) and rebound nystagmus (RN). Minor leakiness is physiological and occasionally causes GEN in healthy humans. We aimed to evaluate the characteristics of GEN/RN in healthy subjects for better differentiation between physiological and pathological GEN/RN. Methods Using video-oculography, eye position was measured in 14 healthy humans at straight ahead eye position before and after, and during 30 s of ocular fixation at 4 horizontal eccentric targets between 30° and 45°. We determined the eye drift velocity and the prevalence of nystagmus before/during/after eccentric fixation. Results Eye drift velocities during (range 0.62 ± 0.53°/s to 1.78 ± 0.69°/s) and after eccentric gaze (range 0.28 ± 0.52°/s to 1.48 ± 1.02°/s) increased with the amount of gaze eccentricity (30°-45°). During continuous eccentric gaze, eye drift velocities decreased by 0.41 ± 0.18°/s at 30°, and 0.84 ± 0.38°/s at 45° gaze eccentricity. GEN was elicited in 71% of subjects at 30° gaze eccentricity. Twenty-one percent showed RN thereafter. This prevalence increased to 100% (GEN)/72% (RN) at 45° gaze eccentricity. RN found after 30° gaze eccentricity was of low velocity (0.82 ± 0.21°/s) and occurred after minor drift velocity decrease during prior eccentric gaze (0.43 ± 0.15°/s). Conclusion GEN and RN should be tested using horizontal gaze eccentricities of less then 30°, since most healthy subjects physiologically show GEN and RN at higher eccentricities. There are also prominent sex differences in the etiology, epidemiology, and consequences of TBI. For instance, men are more likely to be injured on sporting fields or in auto accidents, while women are disproportionately likely to suffer TBI associated with intimate partner violence. Moreover, while men are **** more likely to suffer TBI during late adolescence-young adulthood, sex differences in the incidence of TBI are **** less prominent during other developmental epochs. Further, there are prominent sex differences in substance abuse biology; for example, while more men meet diagnostic criteria for substance abuse disorders, women tend to advance from casual use to addiction more quickly. Unfortunately, conventional imaging techniques do not always demonstrate the microvascular pathology that is associated with small vessel disease. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes in the microvascular structure of SVaD and to identify how the microvascular changes in vessel size, detected with imaging, affect the gray matter. Methods Ten SVaD patients and 12 healthy controls underwent vessel size imaging with gradient-echo and spin-echo sequences before and after contrast agent injection. Four microvessel index maps, including total blood volume fraction (BVf), mean vessel density (Q), mean vessel diameter (mVD), and vessel size index (VSI) were calculated. ROI value of each microvessel parameter was compared between SVaD patients and controls. Voxel-wise comparison of microvessel parameters was also performed to assess the regional difference. The relationship between the microvessel parameters in white matter and total gray matter volume (TGV) were assessed. Results Both mVD and VSI were significantly different between the SVaD and controls in the ROI-based comparisons (unpaired t-test, p less then 0.05). mVD and VSI were significantly increased in the SVaD group at the subcortical, periventricular white matter, basal ganglia, and thalami compared with the controls (FDR corrected, p less then 0.05). VSI in the white matter areas were significantly negatively correlated with TGV (r = -0.446, p less then 0.05). Conclusions The increase of mVD and VSI in SVaD patients reflects the damage of the microvessels in the white matter, and these changes may lead to the damage of the gray matter.Objective Patients with medically refractory focal epilepsy can be difficult to treat surgically, especially if invasive monitoring reveals multiple ictal onset zones.   • We introduce a highly efficient method for the fabrication of large area nanobowtie arrays (NBAs) based on a home-built tunable holographic lithography (THL) technique. By elaborately designing pattern templates, NBAs with different materials and geometric parameters can be easily obtained by a two-step approach. Both the plasmonic and semiconductor NBAs with tunable gap sizes and a high uniformity over an area of one square centimetre can be conveniently fabricated. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) performance and photoelectric properties have been demonstrated on the gold and TiO2 NBAs, respectively. This THL technique shows unique advantages in fabricating well-defined and large-area nanostructures in a high throughput way, facilitating practical applications in a broad range of fields of optoelectronics.A graphene oxide/poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-β-cyclodextrin) (GO/poly(NIPAM-co-β-CD)) hydrogel has been synthesized through host-guest interaction between β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and the isopropyl group of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM). Their crystal structures have been elucidated by X-ray crystallography and their photophysical properties have been investigated in detail. Photophysical studies and time domain density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations show that the luminescence performance of these four complexes is ascribed to metal-to-ligand charge transfer (****) mixed with ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (LLCT), and complex 2 shows green emission at 574 nm with the highest quantum yield of up to 52.80%. In addition, the research of photoluminescence properties under the guidance of terahertz spectroscopy technology leads to the preliminary discovery of a correlation between crystal packing and luminescence. It is found that the terahertz spectrum and absorption peak are strongly interdependent on C-Hπ and ππ interactions, and the external weak interactions have negative effects on the luminescence performance. Accordingly, a systematic review on this topic will provide the synthetic organic community with a conceptual overview and comprehensive understanding of the different multicomponent reaction (MCR) cascades involving dearomatization as the characteristic step.   • Hip Resurfacing (HR), although reducing in popularity, is still used in the younger male population. Excellent medium-term results have been published; however, the use of metal on metal has reduced with increased awareness of adverse reactions to metal debris (ARMD). ARMD has been shown to often be clinically "silent" following large Head MoM total hip replacement (THR). The purpose of our study was to report the incidence of ARMD following HR with a minimum follow-up of 13 years.

    We performed a retrospective study of a consecutive series of patients who underwent HR between January 1, 2000 and August 1, 2005. All patients were entered into our hospital MoM hip replacement surveillance program database. Patients were reviewed yearly for symptoms and blood ion levels. Patients had Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging to assess for ARMD.

    A total of 102 patients with 123 hip replacements were included in the study. Eight hips in 7 patients were revised two for fracture, one for avascular necrosis, and five for ARMD. A best-case scenario of 109 (93.2%) resurfacings were surviving at 13 years. With regard to the radiological analysis, 34% were found to have ARMD on MR.

We created a step-by-step point-of-care ultrasound screening protocol of the upper extremity to increase or decrease the probability of fracture before x-ray study or reduction.

    We present the cases of 6 children younger than 4years without a clear history of pulled elbow and without swelling or deformity on examination, for whom this protocol revealed fracture or lowered the probability of fracture, thereby increasing the safety of radial head reduction. Total OUD-related costs were estimated according to age and stakeholder perspective. Mean costs weighted by insurance type and the probability of mortality were estimated for each age, then used to estimate the mean present value of OUD aversion according to age and stakeholder perspective.

    The total annual OUD-related costs to the U.S. in 2018 were $786.8 billion to society, $93 billion to taxpayers, and $89.1 billion to the healthcare sector.
