    A total of 29 nephrologists (45%) csms for tolvaptan can vary; therefore, clinicians' experience with the drug may not be generalizable. Although the response rate was acceptable, the survey is nonetheless subject to responder bias.

    This survey indicates that there is substantial variability in the usage of, and familiarity with, evidence-based ADPKD management tools among contemporary nephrologists, contributing to incomplete translation of evidence into clinical practice. Providing greater access to tolvaptan or imaging tests is unlikely to improve patient care without enhancing knowledge translation and education.

    Not applicable as this was a survey.Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila and Chlamydia pneumoniae are the most common bacterial agents, which account for 15-40%, 2-15% and 5-10% of atypical community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) respectively. These agents are mostly associated with infection in the outpatient setting. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of these pathogens among patients with CAP attending outpatient clinics in Tehran. A cross-sectional study was carried out of 150 patients attending to educational hospitals in Tehran with CAP. M. pneumoniae, L. pneumophila and Chlamydia spp. were detected by PCR assay, targeting the P1 adhesion gene, macrophage infectivity potentiator (mip) gene and 16S rRNA gene respectively from throat swabs obtained from each patient. A total of 86 (57.3%) of 150 patients were women; median age was 50 years (interquartile range, 35-65 years). M. pneumoniae, L. pneumophila and Chlamydia spp. were detected in 37 (24.7%), 25 (16.7%) and 11 (7.3%) patients respectively; of these, 66 patients (44%) were infected at least by one of these three pathogens. The frequency of L. pneumophila was significantly higher among patients over 60 years old (p 0.03). Coinfection was detected in seven patients (4.7%); six were infected by M. pneumoniae and L. pneumophila, and only one was infected by L. pneumophila and Chlamydia spp. M. pneumoniae was the most prevalent agent of atypical CAP, and L. pneumophila was more likely to infect elderly rather than younger people.   • Two previous national epidemiological studies, IBERPOC in 1997 and EPISCAN in 2007, determined the COPD burden in Spain. Changes in demographics and exposure to risk factors demand the periodic update of COPD prevalence and its determinants.

    EPISCAN II aimed to estimate the prevalence of COPD in the general population aged 40 years or older in all 17 regions of Spain. A random population screening sample, requiring 600 participants per region performed a questionnaire plus post-bronchodilator (post-BD) spirometry.

    A total of 12,825 subjects were initially contacted, and 9433 (73.6%) agreed to participate, of whom 9092 performed a valid spirometry. Baseline characteristics were 52.6% women, mean±SD age 60±11 years, 19.8% current- and 34.2% former-smokers. The prevalence of COPD measured by post-BD fixed ratio FEV
    /FVC<0.7 was 11.8% (95% C.I. 11.2-12.5) with a high variability by region (2.4-fold). Prevalence was 14.6% (95% C.I. 13.5-15.7) in males and 9.4% (95% C.I. 8.6-10.2) in females; according to the lower limit of normal (LLN) was 6.0% (95% C.I. 5.5-6.5) overall, by sex being 7.1% (95% C.I. 6.4-8.0) in males and 4.9% (95% C.I. 4.3-5.6) in females. Underdiagnosis of COPD was 74.7%. Cases with COPD were a mean of seven years older, more frequently male, of lower attained education, and with more smokers than the non-COPD population (p<0.001). However, the number of cigarettes and pack-years in non-COPD participants was substantial, as it was the reported use of e-cigarettes (7.0% vs. 5.5%) (p=0.045). The disease produced by this virus, called Covid-19, presents with variable clinical manifestations, from practically asymptomatic patients with catarrhal processes to severe pneumonias that rapidly evolve to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and multiorgan failure. In recent weeks, papers have been published describing coagulation disorders and arterial and venous thrombotic complications in these patients, mainly among those admitted to intensive care units. The infection triggers an immune response, which causes different inflammatory mediators to be released into the blood. These include cytokines, which interact with platelets and different coagulation proteins, and promote thrombogenesis. One of the most widely studied coagulation markers in Covid-19 is D-dimer (DD), raised levels of which have prognostic implications, although the best cut-off point for the diagnosis of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in this population has not been clarified, nor has its usefulness in determining the intensity of thromboprophylaxis required in these patients.     During a 10-week study period from March 16 to May 22, 2020, changes to educational block-weeks (BW) of first through fourth year residents (R1-4) were documented as disrupted in the setting of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first 5 weeks and the second 5 weeks were evaluated separately for temporal differences. Overall and mean disrupted BW per resident were documented. Wilcoxon rank-sum tests were used to assess pairwise differences between classes with Bonferroni-adjusted P-values, as well as differences in the early versus later phase of the pandemic.

    Of 373 BW, 56.6% were assigned to virtual curriculum, 39.4% radiology clinical duties, 2.9% illness, and 1.1% reassignment. Scheduling intervention affected 6.2 ± 2.3 (range 1-10) mean BW per resident over the 10-week study period. We aimed to compare female versus male VIPs in a large, multinational collective of VIPs with regards to outcome and predictors of mortality. In total, 7555 patients were included in this analysis, 3973 (53%) male and 3582 (47%) female patients. The primary endpoint was 30-day-mortality. Baseline characteristics, data on management and geriatric scores including frailty assessed by Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) were documented. Two propensity scores (for being male) were obtained for consecutive matching, score 1 for baseline characteristics and score 2 for baseline characteristics and ICU management. Male VIPs were younger (83 ± 5 vs. 84 ± 5; p  4; 38% versus 49%; p  less then  0.001) but evidenced higher SOFA (7 ± 6 versus 6 ± 6 points; p  less then  0.001) scores. After propensity score matching, no differences in baseline characteristics could be observed. In the paired analysis, the mortality in male VIPs was higher (mean difference 3.34% 95%CI 0.92-5.76%; p = 0.007) compared to females. In both multivariable logistic regression models correcting for propensity score 1 (aOR 1.15 95%CI 1.03-1.27; p = 0.007) and propensity score 2 (aOR 1.15 95%CI 1.04-1.27; p = 0.007) male sex was independently associated with higher odds for 30-day-mortality. Of note, male gender was not associated with ICU mortality (OR 1.08 95%CI 0.98-1.19; p = 0.14). Outcomes of elderly intensive care patients evidenced independent sex differences. Male sex was associated with adverse 30-day-mortality but not ICU-mortality. The treatment time of 48 h in GCCM improved both the expression levels of androgen synthesis-related genes (CYP11A1, CYP17A1, 3β-HSD, and Star) and the secretion levels of testosterone in TCs. The new cell line (designated AeAe-GH98), having an adhesive spindle-shaped web-like morphology, was serially subcultured in both VP-12 and Schneider's medium supplemented with 10% heat-inactivated fetal bovine serum. AeAe-GH98 cells were found to have a population doubling time of 1.3 d during exponential growth. The mosquito colony used to establish the cell line was confirmed to have originated from Africa using microsatellite assay. In terms of susceptibility to Aedes-borne flaviviruses, AeAe-GH98 cells were found to have different degrees of susceptibility to yellow fever, Zika, and dengue virus infection and propagation.     Longitudinal data from 520 mother-infant dyads participating in the Nurture Study, an observational cohort in the southeastern United States, were leveraged. Women were categorized as employed or nonemployed at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months, and measured anthropometrics were used to calculate infants' BMI z scores at the corresponding time points. BMI z score was defined using the World Health Organization standard. Household income was an effect modifier. Therefore, income-stratified (≤$40,000/y vs. >$40,000/y) linear regression models, with individual fixed effects, were used to examine associations between change in maternal employment status and BMI z scores among infants aged 3 to 12 months. Fixed effects controlled for time-invariant confounders (race/ethnicity, infant gender). This study also controlled for marital status and infant age.

    More women from higher-income (68.4%) versus lower-income households (52.6%) were employed. We hypothesized that the utilization of co-cultured stem cells could result in enhanced therapeutic outcomes attributed to their more comprehensive environment of paracrine factors and cytokines.

    We performed bilateral pudendal nerve transection surgeries to simulate urinary incontinence in 25 female Wistar rats and employed urodynamic evaluations to confirm the injury. We autologously isolated and cultured adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells, muscle-derived stem cells, and a mixed culture of the two types, which we subsequently injected into the urethral lumen of the damaged animals. Three weeks after the injection, urodynamic assays, histological staining, and immunohistochemical evaluations were performed to determine the efficacy of the implanted cell cultures in sphincter function improvements or structural modifications.

The long non-coding RNAs DANCR were reported as oncogenes, which are upregulated in many cancer types including pancreatic cancer. The role of DANCR and its correlation with tumour suppressor protein MLL3 expression are keen to understand different pathological stages of pancreatic cancer.

    The role of long non-coding RNAs DANCR in correlation with MLL3 was studied using histology, in situ hybridization, immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. TM00314 strain of mutant **** in KRAS G12A and MPL gene were used since they are able to develop initial and advanced stage of pancreatic cancer after 3 and 5 months of growth.

    Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a lethal disease of the alimentary system and is ranked 4th in cancer-related deaths in United States. PC has a poor prognosis and limited therapeutic options. The main purpose of the current study was to demonstrate the anticancer effects of the naturally occurring Baicalein flavone in human cisplatin-resistant pancreatic carcinoma cell line CAPAN-2.

Mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis was examined through DAPI and annexin V/propidium iodide (PI) staining using fluorescence microscopy along with estimation of apoptosis-related protein expressions like caspase-3, Bax, Bcl-2 for which western blot was used.     This was a retrospective study of 273 PC patients ≥18 years of age who had liver metastasis at the time of diagnosis and received CT in the first-line. Patients were stratified into 3 categories based on the ALBI score as follows; grade IALBI ≤-2.60, grade II-2.60<ALBI≤-1.39, and grade IIIALBI>-1.39.

    To explore the biological function of micro ribonucleic acid (miR)-200a in cervical cancer (CC).

    HeLa cells were transfected with miR-200a inhibitor or negative control (NC). Next, the effects of miR-200a down-regulation on the proliferation of CC cells were detected via methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay and colony formation assay.     A literature review was undertaken using Medline, the Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases and Google Scholar. Titles and abstracts were screened, and full texts of potentially qualifying studies were reviewed for inclusion. Included articles were analysed, and bibliometric parameters as well as public expenditure data on orphan medicines were retrieved.

    Six hundred forty three articles excluding duplicates were identified. After screening of the abstracts and a review of the full texts, 13 articles qualified for in-depth analysis.The 13 selected articles on orphan pharmaceutical expenditure were published between 2010 and 2018. Survey periods varied between 1 year and 12 years. Both groups completed twice weekly 40-min exercise sessions for 6 weeks. Perceived pain was measured using a numeric pain rating scale and the Multidimensional Affect and Pain Survey questionnaire. Postural control was measured as sway using a Kistler™ force platform. Technology acceptance was measured with the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology questionnaire and flow experience with the Flow Stcal exertion and expended mental effort were found in both groups.

    Our findings support the potential of exergaming to alleviate pain and improve balance in older people with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Both forms of exercise are acceptable, intrinsically motivating and show evidence of benefit to older people with chronic musculoskeletal pain.

AAV-mediated transgene expression in vivo from the hybrid promoter was marginally lower than that observed for AAV vectors encoding the strong CAG promoter, but greatly reduced in the heart, making this promoter/enhancer combination attractive for non-cardiac applications, particularly respiratory tract or liver directed therapies. Replacement of the murine leukemia virus intron present in the original vector construct with a modified SV40 intron reduced the promoter/enhancer/intron cassette size to 719 bp, leaving an additional ~4 kb of coding capacity when packaged within an AAV vector. The social security number was used to confirm status as dead or alive in December 2019. We included 717 HHT patients and 471 controls. This review organized the role of lncRNAs according to the major issues in cholesterol homeostasis efflux, metabolism and synthesis, and disease process.Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), an autosomal dominant disease, is characterized by telangiectases and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Untreated AVMs, especially in the lungs-pulmonary AVMs (PAVMs)-can result in morbidity with a decreased life expectancy. We have investigated whether HHT patients, systematically screened for HHT-related organ involvement and treated if needed, have a similar survival as persons without HHT. We included all individuals screened for HHT between 2004 and 2016 with a genetically or clinically confirmed diagnosis (HHT group) or excluded diagnosis (non-HHT control group). The social security number was used to confirm status as dead or alive in December 2019. We included 717 HHT patients and 471 controls. There was no difference in survival between the HHT and the non-HHT control group. The HHT group had a life expectancy of 75.9 years (95% confidence interval (CI) 73.3-78.6), comparable to the control group (79.3 years, 95% CI 74.8-84.0, Mantel-Cox test p = 0.29). In conclusion, the life expectancy of HHT patients systematically screened for HHT-related organ involvement and treated if needed in an HHT center of excellence was similar compared to their controls, justifying systematic screening and treatment in HHT patients.Targeting of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) has emerged as a powerful tool for therapeutic intervention because the overexpression of this enzyme is synonymous with inflammation, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases.
