    Sirolimus-coated balloons (SCBs) represent a novel therapeutic option for both in-stent restenosis (ISR) and de novo coronary lesions treatment, especially in small vessels. Our registry sought to evaluate the procedural and clinical outcomes of such devices in a complex acute coronary syndrome (ACS) clinical setting.

    We treated 74 consecutive patients with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with at least 1 SCB used for ISR and/or de novo coronary lesion in small vessels at our institution. Sixty-two patients presented with ACS, and their data were included in our analysis. The mean age was 67 ± 10 years, and patients presenting with ST-elevated myocardial infarction (STEMI) were 14 (23%). De novo lesions were 52%, whereas ISR was 48%. Procedural success occurred in 100% of the cases. At the 11 ± 7 months follow-up, major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) were 3 (4.8%). Cardiovascular death (CD) occurred in 1 (1.6%) patient and myocardial infarction (MI) in 2 patients (3.2%) as well as ischemia-driven target lesion revascularization (TLR).   • Marine fungi are an important repository of bioactive molecules with great potential in different technological fields, the annual number of new compounds isolated from marine fungi is impressive and the general trend indicates that it is still on the rise. In this context, the antifungal and antimicrobial activity of the marine strain Mariannaea humicola IG100 was evaluated and two active terpenoids were isolated and characterized.

    Preliminary screening of activity of marine strain IG100 was carried out by agar plug diffusion methods against fungal (Penicillium griseofulvum TSF04) and bacterial (Bacillus pumilus KB66 and Escherichia coli JM109) strains. Subsequently, inhibition tests were done by using the cultural broth and the organic extract (ethyl acetate, EtOAc) by the agar well diffusion methods. The main active fractions were identified and tested for their antifungal activity against P. griseofulvum TSF04 in a 24 wells microplate at different concentrations (1000, 100, 10 and 1.0µg/mL). Emergency chest x-ray revealed right-sided hydropneumothorax. BS was diagnosed by chest tube drainage and computed tomography. Besides antibiotics and tube feeding, a naso-leakage drainage tube was inserted into the right thorax for pleural evacuation. Finally, the esophagus was healed 40d after the conservative treatment.

    Splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) is a rare non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and **** little is known about its clinical characteristics and management strategies. Here we present a case of SMZL and review relevant literature to provide a better recognition of this disease entity.

    A 49-year-old Chinese female was admitted to our hospital with complaints of abdominal distension and acid reflux. Physical examinations and imaging investigations suggested the presence of splenomegaly. Laboratory workups revealed mildly reduced white blood cell count otherwise was not remarkable. The patient underwent splenectomy. Histological examination combined with immunohistochemical analysis of the resected spleen confirmed the diagnosis of SMZL. The patient recovered uneventfully during follow-ups.

    Due to the rarity and unspecific clinical features, SMZL is extremely challenging to be diagnosed preoperatively. Patients with SMZL are generally associated with favorable prognosis. Combining the staging characteristics of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and splenic primary lymphoma may assist in clinical staging management of SMZL.

  • Programmed cell death receptor ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitors are immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) with a side effect profile that may differ from other classes of ICIs such as those directed against cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA-4) and programmed cell death 1 receptor (PD-1). Being the more recently approved class of checkpoint inhibitors, there are no studies investigating the frequency, etiology and predictors of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients receiving PD-L1 inhibitors.

    Using data from the Japanese Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Pattern Study phases 1-5, we analyzed patients who underwent maintenance hemodialysis. The exposure variable was hemoglobin concentration, and the effect modifier was IDWG at baseline. These 2 categorical variables were then combined and analyzed. The primary outcome was major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). Hazard ratios were estimated using a Cox model for the association between exposure and MACEs after adjusting for potential confounders. We examined additive interactions between hemoglobin concentration and IDWG by calculating the relative excess risk due to interaction, which is defined as a departure from the additivity of effects.

    A total of 8234 patients were enrolled. During a median follow-up of 2.1 years, 1062 (12.9%) patients developed MACEs. In IDWG categories of<6%, adjusted hazard ratios for MACEs tended to be lower as hemoglobin concentration increased. In IDWG categories of≥6%, point estimation of MACEs with hemoglobin concentration of≥11.0 g/dl-<12.0 g/dl was higher than that with hemoglobin concentration of≥10.0 g/dl-<11.0 g/dl. The relative excess risk due to interaction was 0.22 (95% confidence interval 0.02-0.42) between IDWG category of≥6% and hemoglobin categories of≥11.0 g/dl-<12.0 g/dl, indicating a synergistic interaction.

Meanwhile, an accumulation of C-C chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) monocytic (Mo)-MDSCs and Tregs was observed.     of the Coroner deaths examined in the period reviewed, 1,067 (86.9%) were injury-related. The male-to-female ratio was 5.2 1. Mean age of victims was 34.2 ± 14.3years and range was 8 months to 86 years. Most victims (56.7%) aged 21-40 years. Accidents accounted for most deaths (53.2%) followed by homicide (44.3%). Road traffic deaths (51.4%), cult/gang violence (20.8%) and robbery (14.7%) were the commonest. Suicide (0.5%) and domestic violence (0.7%) were the least. More females died in domestic incidents while more males died in all other circumstances. Firearm (56.7%) was the most common weapon followed by knife (19%). Knife and wood (28.7% each) were the commonest weapons in domestic violence. Generally, fatal incidents occurred more in the day-time (65.5%). Most robberies (80.4%) occurred at night. Most cult/gang killings (75.2%) and robberies (81.7%) occurred in public places and at homes respectively.

In March and April 2019, the impact of tropical cyclones Idai and Kenneth in Southern Africa and subsequent flooding resulted in devastating consequences to the Mozambique health care system. In this article, we highlight the role of Mozambique's Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FELTP) graduates as first responders during one of the most significant natural disasters on the African continent. The FELTP graduates played a key role in conducting risk assessments, active epidemiological surveillance for priority communicable diseases, and outbreak investigations and supporting the laboratory diagnosis system. The cyclone emergencies in Mozambique revealed the vulnerability of the health system. It is vital to continue the investment in increasing epidemiological capacity of health human resources, staff to adequately prepare for and respond to public health emergencies to mitigate the negative health impacts associated with those events.

This study aimed to determine the burden and demographic characteristics of injury-related death in Enugu, Nigeria. this is a retrospective study of injury-related deaths in Enugu over a 7-year period. Standardized forms were used to collect data from autopsy reports archived in the Forensic Unit of Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Enugu and a descriptive analysis of collected data performed. of the Coroner deaths examined in the period reviewed, 1,067 (86.9%) were injury-related. The male-to-female ratio was 5.2 1. Mean age of victims was 34.2 ± 14.3years and range was 8 months to 86 years. Most victims (56.7%) aged 21-40 years. Accidents accounted for most deaths (53.2%) followed by homicide (44.3%). Road traffic deaths (51.4%), cult/gang violence (20.8%) and robbery (14.7%) were the commonest. Suicide (0.5%) and domestic violence (0.7%) were the least. More females died in domestic incidents while more males died in all other circumstances. Firearm (56.7%) was the most common weapon followed by knife (19%). Knife and wood (28.7% each) were the commonest weapons in domestic violence. Generally, fatal incidents occurred more in the day-time (65.5%). Most robberies (80.4%) occurred at night. Binding isotherms of testosterone's binding to HSA generated using fluorescence spectroscopy and equilibrium dialysis were nonlinear and the apparent dissociation constant varied with different concentrations of testosterone and HSA. The binding isotherms neither conformed to a linear binding model with 11 stoichiometry nor to 2 independent binding sites; the binding isotherms were most consistent with 2 or more allosterically coupled binding sites. Molecular dynamics studies revealed that testosterone's binding to fatty acid binding site 3 on HSA was associated with conformational changes at site 6, indicating that residues in in these 2 distinct binding sites are allosterically coupled. There are multiple, allosterically coupled binding sites for testosterone on HSA. Testosterone shares these binding sites on HSA with free fatty acids, which could displace testosterone from HSA under various physiological states or disease conditions, affecting its bioavailability.

The present study sought to replicate and extend this finding in a large, independent sample of MDD patients.

  • Autoimmune DM has been reported as an ICI-associated irAE. However, patients with immunocompromising conditions such as HIV are usually excluded from ICI trials. Therefore, little is known about such irAEs in this population. In this case, risk of ICI-DM as an irAE was likely increased by several factors including family history, a high-risk genetic profile, islet-related immunologic abnormalities, active lymphoma, and HIV infection with a possible immune reconstitution event. Steam distillation is the main industrial method for obtaining the oil but requires large amounts of water and heating energy. The present study describes the use of a cellulose-dissolving [C2mim][(MeO)(H)PO2] ionic liquid (IL) for efficient extraction of hiba oil. As a control method, organic solvent extraction using either hexane, Et2O, or EtOAc was conducted at 80 °C for 1 h. The method developed in this study using an IL was conducted at the same temperature and time as the control method and relied on partial dissolution of the wood using the IL before partitioning the hiba oil into the organic solvent for analysis. Quantitative analysis was performed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in selected ion-monitoring mode. The results showed that extraction using the [C2mim][(MeO)(H)PO2] IL/hexane biphasic system improved the yields of (-)-thujopsene, cedrol 1.2- and 2.3-fold, when compared with the control method. Furthermore, extraction at a lower temperature (30 °C) did not significantly change the yield. The IL could be recovered with high purity, while the cellulose-rich material and lignin were regenerated. This study demonstrates the ability to effectively extract wood essential oil more quickly and under milder conditions than the conventional method, with subsequent separation and regeneration of wood biopolymers using an IL.Conventional acid diversion agents cannot tolerate the high temperature and salinity of acidizing water-producing oil wells that contain bottom water and heterogeneous layers. Because this emulsifier reacts with acids to transform amines into ammonium, the emulsion rapidly demulsifies, and the emulsion acid diversion agent can use the spent acid flowback to remove plugging. Evaluation of the emulsion properties indicated that a 10 wt % emulsifier generated a stable emulsion at oil/water ratios from 19 to 46 at 90 °C. Viscosity was higher at lower oil/water ratios, and the emulsion with an oil/water ratio of 46, which had a low viscosity, was injected into the formation. During injection, the emulsion continued to emulsify in high-permeability channels, which increased the viscosity until the water layer was blocked. During experiments, single-tube and dual-tube models were designed to evaluate the injectivity and plugging selectivity of this emulsion. The results showed that the resistance factors exceeded 14 in the high-permeability cores when the emulsion was injected. The higher permeability ratio in parallel cores allowed a larger emulsion volume to enter the high-permeability cores. In experiments using parallel cores, the block rate of the high-permeability cores exceeded 92%, and that of the low-permeability cores was less than 12%.     Autoimmune DM has been reported as an ICI-associated irAE. However, patients with immunocompromising conditions such as HIV are usually excluded from ICI trials. Therefore, little is known about such irAEs in this population. In this case, risk of ICI-DM as an irAE was likely increased by several factors including family history, a high-risk genetic profile, islet-related immunologic abnormalities, active lymphoma, and HIV infection with a possible immune reconstitution event. Clinicians should maintain a high index of suspicion for development of irAEs associated with ICI, particularly as use of these therapies broadens. Steam distillation is the main industrial method for obtaining the oil but requires large amounts of water and heating energy. The present study describes the use of a cellulose-dissolving [C2mim][(MeO)(H)PO2] ionic liquid (IL) for efficient extraction of hiba oil. As a control method, organic solvent extraction using either hexane, Et2O, or EtOAc was conducted at 80 °C for 1 h. The method developed in this study using an IL was conducted at the same temperature and time as the control method and relied on partial dissolution of the wood using the IL before partitioning the hiba oil into the organic solvent for analysis. Quantitative analysis was performed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in selected ion-monitoring mode. The results showed that extraction using the [C2mim][(MeO)(H)PO2] IL/hexane biphasic system improved the yields of (-)-thujopsene, cedrol 1.2- and 2.3-fold, when compared with the control method. Furthermore, extraction at a lower temperature (30 °C) did not significantly change the yield. The IL could be recovered with high purity, while the cellulose-rich material and lignin were regenerated. This study demonstrates the ability to effectively extract wood essential oil more quickly and under milder conditions than the conventional method, with subsequent separation and regeneration of wood biopolymers using an IL.Conventional acid diversion agents cannot tolerate the high temperature and salinity of acidizing water-producing oil wells that contain bottom water and heterogeneous layers. Therefore, a water/oil (w/o) emulsion was proposed as an acid diversion agent to promote acidification. The selected emulsifier, oleic acid imidazoline, is a switchable emulsifier. Because this emulsifier reacts with acids to transform amines into ammonium, the emulsion rapidly demulsifies, and the emulsion acid diversion agent can use the spent acid flowback to remove plugging. Evaluation of the emulsion properties indicated that a 10 wt % emulsifier generated a stable emulsion at oil/water ratios from 19 to 46 at 90 °C. Viscosity was higher at lower oil/water ratios, and the emulsion with an oil/water ratio of 46, which had a low viscosity, was injected into the formation. During injection, the emulsion continued to emulsify in high-permeability channels, which increased the viscosity until the water layer was blocked. During experiments, single-tube and dual-tube models were designed to evaluate the injectivity and plugging selectivity of this emulsion. The results showed that the resistance factors exceeded 14 in the high-permeability cores when the emulsion was injected. The higher permeability ratio in parallel cores allowed a larger emulsion volume to enter the high-permeability cores. In experiments using parallel cores, the block rate of the high-permeability cores exceeded 92%, and that of the low-permeability cores was less than 12%. We developed an online adult headache guideline for the greater Wellington Region as a resource for general practitioners to guide identification of concerning headaches, initiation of prophylactic medications for migraine, and management of analgesic overuse headache. We examined the effectiveness of this guideline in reducing demand on the neurology outpatient service for headache patients that could readily be managed in primary care.

    We reviewed electronic referrals to Wellington Hospital's neurology department before and after the implementation of the online headache guideline. The primary outcome was the proportion of referrals for headache.     Timely information provided by clinical librarians can contribute to outcomes such as improved patient care and time savings for hospital staff. What is unknown is the return on investment (ROI) of a clinical librarian on a critical care unit.

    The aim of this study was to assess the ROI, from the employer perspective, of placing a clinical librarian in a critical care unit in a large UK acute hospital.

    Using a mixed methods approach, ROI was estimated by comparing the total costs with the total monetised benefits of implementing the clinical librarian intervention. Total costs included salary and equipment costs. Total monetised benefits included time saving for hospital staff, support for professional development and improved patient care.

    When total monetised benefits were compared with total costs, the 15-month clinical librarian intervention generated a positive ROI of £1.18-£3.03 for every £1 invested.

    Using outcome measures derived from previous research, this novel study generated promising results indicative for commissioners seeking to improve patient care and deliver value for money. To improve generalisability, multisite studies using standardised ROI tools are recommended.

    A model of artificial bone was digitally designed. Dental implants were positioned in the lower right posterior area of teeth #'s 28 (premolar - pm) and 30 (molar - m). Restorative implant components were digitally designed and placed into the implant model. Four different implant abutment situations were simulated through FEA (1) Both engaging abutments (mE-pmE), (2) both nonengaging (mNE-pmNE), (3) molar nonengaging and premolar engaging (mNE-pmE), and (4) molar engaging and premolar nonengaging (mE-pmNE). Thirty-five (35) Ncm preload to the abutment screws and 160 N static load at 45° angle to the occlusal plane were applied in each group.

  • Results of the meta-analysis of the randomized controlled clinical trials showed that OR toothbrushes had superior, statistically significant outcomes for whole-mouth plaque reduction, assessed using the Rustogi Modified Navy Plaque Index (P .05). PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS There is some evidence to suggest that OR powered toothbrushes might remove more plaque and reduce the number of bleedings sites better than other powered toothbrushes, specifically, sonic action toothbrushes. The etiology of chest pain in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HC) is diverse and includes coronary artery disease (***) as well as HC-specific causes. Myocardial bridging (MB) has been associated with HC, chest pain, and accelerated atherosclerosis. We compared HC patients with age-, gender- and *** pre-test probability-matched outpatients presenting with chest pain to investigate differences in the presence of MB and *** using coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA). We studied 84 HC patients who underwent CCTA and compared these with 168 matched controls (age 54 ± 11 years, 70% men, pre-test probability 12% [5% to 32%]). MB, calcium score, plaque morphology and presence and extent of *** were assessed for each patient. Linear mixed models were used to assess differences between cases and controls. MB was more often seen in HC patients (50% vs 25%, p less then 0.001). Calcium score and the presence of obstructive *** were similar in both groups (9 [0 to 225] vs 4 [0 to 82] and 18% vs 19%; p = 0.22 and p = 0.82). In the HC group, MB was associated with pathogenic DNA variants (p = 0.04), but not with the presence of chest pain (74% vs 76%, p = 0.8), nor with worse outcome (log-rank p = 0.30). In conclusion, the prevalence and extent of *** was equal among patients with and without HC, demonstrating that pre-test risk prediction using the *** Consortium clinical risk score performs well in HC patients. MB was twice as prevalent in the HC group compared with matched controls, but was not associated with chest pain or decreased event-free survival in these patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate the meat quality characteristics, bioactive compound content, and antioxidant activity during refrigerated storage of breast meat of Arbor Acres broilers (carcass weight 1.1 kg, raised for 35 D) obtained from a conventional farm (BCF, n = 30) and an animal welfare farm (BAF, n = 30) in Korea. The BCF and BAF did not differ in their proximate composition, color, water-holding capacity, creatine, creatinine, and carnosine contents. However, the shear force value was significantly higher in BAF than in BCF (P less then 0.05). The 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) levels in BCF on days 7 and 9 were significantly higher than those in BAF (P less then 0.001). During storage, the total volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) content of BAF was significantly lower, except on day 1. The fatty acid composition of samples was not affected by the storage period, however, saturated fatty acid and unsaturated fatty acid contents did differ among the types of farm systems (P less then 0.05). Although the creatine, creatinine, and carnosine contents in BAF and BCF did not differ significantly, the carnosine and creatinine contents decreased with the increase in storage period (P less then 0.05). The anserine content of BAF was significantly higher than that of BCF throughout storage. Superoxide dismutase activity was not affected by the type of farm system but was affected by storage period. Overall, BAF showed lower pH, microorganism, TBARS, and VBN values, and higher anserine contents than BCF. These findings can serve as reference data for the evaluation of chicken meat quality of broilers raised in animal welfare farm and conventional farm. Skin (SK) and abdominal fat (AF) are by-products that are abundantly produced in poultry slaughterhouses. Skin is used in meat products, especially in sausages, but its use is related to microbiological contamination and susceptibility to oxidation. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of SK replacement with AF on the quality characteristics of emulsified patties stored under freezing conditions (-18°C) for 90 D. The AF showed higher lipid content than did the SK, but the SK had a higher predominance of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Regarding the partial chemical composition, the treatments showed differences in moisture, lipids, and total collagen. The values for para-anisidine and carbonyl compounds at the end of 90 D of storage were not influenced by the incorporation of SK or AF. The judges also did not observe differences in the color and aroma of the emulsified products during the 90 D. Furthermore, volatile compounds considered oxidation markers were not detected at the end of the storage period. Given these results, emulsified patties made with SK or AF undergo, to a similar degree, low levels of lipid and protein oxidation when stored under freezing conditions (-18°C) for 90 D, which allows the use of some of these lipid sources in meat products. Chemical and physical characteristics of the eggs and the egg components such as weights, Haugh units, yolk color, albumen protein content, yolk fatty acid content, and mineral content in the albumen and yolk were analyzed. The Branca breed produced eggs with a lighter brown shell color and lower Haugh unit values than the remaining native breeds (P  less then  0.05). The commercial hens produced eggs that were found to be more rounded shape than the ideal and with a darker colored shell and yolk than eggs from the 4 local breeds. In addition, the commercial hens also produced heavier eggs but with lower Haugh units than the Amarela, Pedrês Portuguesa, and Preta Lusitânica breeds (P  less then  0.05). The range of saturated fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, and total polyunsaturated fatty acids between eggs from the 4 breeds was small and not significantly different. No differences were found in the percentage of albumen protein between breeds. Albumen and yolk ash content was not different between breeds. The overall analysis indicated that eggs from these native genotypes match the quality of a commercial product in many characteristics. MB was twice as prevalent in the HC group compared with matched controls, but was not associated with chest pain or decreased event-free survival in these patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate the meat quality characteristics, bioactive compound content, and antioxidant activity during refrigerated storage of breast meat of Arbor Acres broilers (carcass weight 1.1 kg, raised for 35 D) obtained from a conventional farm (BCF, n = 30) and an animal welfare farm (BAF, n = 30) in Korea. The BCF and BAF did not differ in their proximate composition, color, water-holding capacity, creatine, creatinine, and carnosine contents. However, the shear force value was significantly higher in BAF than in BCF (P less then 0.05). The 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) levels in BCF on days 7 and 9 were significantly higher than those in BAF (P less then 0.001). During storage, the total volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) content of BAF was significantly lower, except on day 1. The fatty acid composition of samples was not affected by the storage period, however, saturated fatty acid and unsaturated fatty acid contents did differ among the types of farm systems (P less then 0.05). Although the creatine, creatinine, and carnosine contents in BAF and BCF did not differ significantly, the carnosine and creatinine contents decreased with the increase in storage period (P less then 0.05). The anserine content of BAF was significantly higher than that of BCF throughout storage. Superoxide dismutase activity was not affected by the type of farm system but was affected by storage period. Overall, BAF showed lower pH, microorganism, TBARS, and VBN values, and higher anserine contents than BCF. These findings can serve as reference data for the evaluation of chicken meat quality of broilers raised in animal welfare farm and conventional farm. Skin (SK) and abdominal fat (AF) are by-products that are abundantly produced in poultry slaughterhouses. Skin is used in meat products, especially in sausages, but its use is related to microbiological contamination and susceptibility to oxidation. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of SK replacement with AF on the quality characteristics of emulsified patties stored under freezing conditions (-18°C) for 90 D. The AF showed higher lipid content than did the SK, but the SK had a higher predominance of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Regarding the partial chemical composition, the treatments showed differences in moisture, lipids, and total collagen. The values for para-anisidine and carbonyl compounds at the end of 90 D of storage were not influenced by the incorporation of SK or AF. The commercial hens produced eggs that were found to be more rounded shape than the ideal and with a darker colored shell and yolk than eggs from the 4 local breeds. In addition, the commercial hens also produced heavier eggs but with lower Haugh units than the Amarela, Pedrês Portuguesa, and Preta Lusitânica breeds (P  less then  0.05). The range of saturated fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, and total polyunsaturated fatty acids between eggs from the 4 breeds was small and not significantly different.   • To evaluate the effects of moxibustion and acupuncture of Zusanli (ST 36) and Zhongwan (CV 12) acupoints on chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) in rats, and to study the mechanisms behind their actions.

    Forty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats were induced with CAG by intragastric administration of 40% ethanol combined with free drinking of N-methyl-N'nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine and irregular feeding for 12 weeks, followed by daily treatment with moxibustion or acupuncture for 2 weeks. Histopathologic examination, Western blotting of cytokines [epidermal growth factor (EGF), EGF receptor (EGFR), extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), phosphorylated ERK (p-ERK)], and 1H NMR-based metabolic profiling of gastric tissues were used to measure changes related to CAG modeling and treatment.

    Moxibustion and acupuncture at Zusanli (ST 36) and Zhongwan (CV 12) each relieved CAG-induced abnormalities in histopathology and cytokine expression of ERK and p-ERK. Only moxibustion treatment regulated the expression of EGF and EGFR. Metabolites that were increased in gastric tissue by CAG induction (alanine, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, uracil DNA glycosylase, lactate, glycerol and adenosine) were restored to normal levels after moxibustion treatment; acupuncture treatment only normalized the levels of adenosine monophosphate and glycerol.

The present study indicates that EA treatment based on the interaction between kidney and brain can improve learning and memory ability by inhibiting activation of astrocytes and microglia and decreasing expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, TNF-α and IL-17. EA treatment based on the interaction between kidney and brain may be an effective treatment for AD. To investigate synergistic effect of Reduning (RDN) injection plus ribavirin against severe pneumonia induced by H1N1 influenza A virus in mice. We established a mouse model of severe pneumonia induced by influenza A virus by infecting Balb/c mice with CA07 virus. We randomly assigned the infected mice into four groups, and treated them with normal saline (NS group), RDN (injection, 86.6 mg/kg), ribavirin (injection, 66.6 mg/kg) or double Ribavirin plus RDN group, the same dosage as used in the single treatments) for 5 d. Lung index and lung pathology were recorded or calculated in terms of the curative effective. Cytokines, NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome related protein including caspase-associated recruitment domain (CARD) domain Apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a caspase recruitment domain(ASC), caspase-1 and NOD-like receptor family, pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3), and reactive oxygen species were simultaneously investigated. RDN plus ribirin could protect the mice, and reduce the lung immunopathologic damage caused by severe influenza pneumonia. The mechanism could be that it reduced ROS produce and inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation so that mainly lower the downstream inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18. To investigate the efficacy of active compounds of Chanqin (CQ) granules on PM2.5-induced airway neurogenic inflammation in vivo, and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of action. The Traditional Chinese Medicine systems pharmacology (TCMSP) database was searched, and the results were combined with oral bioavailability and drug analysis to identify the compounds in CQ granules. The pharmacophore modeling approach was used to predict the compound targets, and the diseases corresponding to the targets were obtained by searching the therapeutic target database (TTD), pharmacogenomics knowledgebase (PharmGKB) and DrugBank databases. Cytoscape software was used to construct the network pharmacological charts for Component-Target and Target-Disease interactions of the CQ granules. Then, the mechanisms of action and effectiveness of CQ granules for the treatment of PM2.5-induced airway neurogenic inflammation were analyzed. A total of 195 compounds and 171 targets were obtained from the analyses. A total of 569 corresponding diseases were identified for these targets.
