These data were collected in the Northeastern United States at Powdermill Nature Reserve, Rector, Pennsylvania, USA. Recordings encompass 385 minutes of dawn chorus recordings collected by autonomous acoustic recorders between the months of April through July 2018. Recordings were collected in continuous bouts on four days during the study period and contain 48 species and 16,052 annotations. Applications of this data set may be numerous and include the training, validation, and testing of certain advanced machine-learning models that detect or classify bird sounds. The relative contribution of fungi and bacteria to decomposition is thought to impact biogeochemical cycling at the ecosystem scale, whereby bacterially dominated decomposition supports the fast turnover of easily available substrates, whereas fungal-dominated decomposition leads to the slower turnover of more complex OM. However, empirical support for this is lacking. We used soils from a detritus input and removal treatment experiment in an old-growth coniferous forest, where above- and belowground litter inputs have been manipulated for 20 yr. These manipulations have generated variation in OM quality, as defined by energetic content and proxied as respiration per g soil organic matter (SOM) and the δ13 C signature in respired CO2 and microbial PLFAs. Respiration per g SOM reflects the availability and lability of C substrate to microorganisms, and the δ13 C signature indicates whether te of selective microbial N-mining. Consistent with the δ13 C data, this reinforces evidence for the use of more microbially processed OM with a lower C/N ratio, rather than plant-derived OM. These results challenge the widely held assumption that microorganisms favor high-quality C sources and suggest that there is a trade-off in OM use that may be related to the growth-limiting factor for microorganisms in the ecosystem.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are noncoding RNAs that regulate gene expression and contribute to the development of cancer. They have been shown to be stable in tissue samples and may be promising diagnostic biomarkers for endometrial cancer.

A retrospective cohort study of women diagnosed with endometrial cancer between January 2017 and December 2017 was performed at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. Archived formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded samples were obtained from patients with endometrial cancer and healthy women. MicroRNA was isolated and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to detect expression levels of miRNAs.

A total of 76 women were included 36 endometrial cancer patients, 40 healthy controls. A distinct panel of miR-200a, miR-200b, miR-200c, miR-205, and miR-182 showed an area under the curve of 0.958, sensitivity 92%, specificity 89%, positive predictive value of 89% (95% CI 82%-94%) and negative predictive value of 91% (95% CI 85%-96%) in diagnosing endometrial cancer. High miR-182 expression levels were significantly related to high-grade endometrioid tumors compared with low-grade tumors.

We demonstrated high diagnostic accuracy of miRNA for detecting endometrial cancer. In addition, miRNA contributed to an improvement in distinguishing between high-grade and low-grade endometrioid tumors.

Retained placenta is a common complication of pregnancy affecting 1% to 6% of all births. If a retained placenta is left untreated, spontaneous delivery of the placenta may occur, but there is a high risk of bleeding and infection. Manual removal of the placenta (MROP) in an operating theatre under anaesthetic is the usual treatment, but is invasive and may have complications. An effective non-surgical alternative for retained placenta would potentially reduce the physical and psychological trauma of the procedure, and costs. It could also be lifesaving by providing a therapy for settings without easy access to modern operating theatres or anaesthetics. Injection of uterotonics into the uterus via the umbilical vein and placenta is an attractive low-cost option for this. This is an update of a review last published in 2011.

A retrospective review was undertaken for patients who underwent a planned open single-stage complex ventral hernia repair with a single unit of PGATMC biosynthetic mesh between May 2013 and August 2017. Data on outcome variables were recorded and quality of life assessed using the Short Form-12 (SF-12) instrument.

Overall, 56 patients underwent abdominal wall reconstruction for complex ventral hernias. All meshes were placed in the retrorectus position. Some 39% underwent component separation. The majority of patients (86%, n = 48) had high risk (grade 2 or 3) hernias according to the Ventral Hernia Working Group classification. Overall hernia recurrence rate was 3.
