We confirmed using minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) assays that eight of the extracts have good bactericidal properties and that one has a high antifungal activity. The latter was purified hinokitiol, a bioproduct from Aomori Hiba wood. This substance provides high resistance against putrefaction; for instance, old Japanese temples were made of Aomori Hiba wood. The combination of hinokitiol with levulinic acid, another bioproduct, demonstrated complementary antimicrobial activities and synergistic effects in ****studies and measurements according to Kull synergy index. Further, the mixture Hinoline® was tested at 2% in challenge tests and fulfilled criteria A of different standards. It also exerted complementary preservative effects with potassium sorbate and beneficial effects in unbalanced skin microbiota.

The role of urodynamic study in the diagnosis and prognostication of interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is still controversial. This study evaluated the correlation of the baseline voiding dysfunctions and long-term treatment outcome in patients with non-Hunner's ulcer IC (NHIC).

A total of 211 NHIC patients were enrolled. All patients underwent videourodynamic (VUDS) examination at baseline to identify their voiding conditions and received subsequent treatments. The mean age was 56.8±12.8years, and mean duration of IC was 16.0±9.9years. At baseline, 83 (39.3%) patients had a voiding dysfunction and 132 (62.7%) had 1 to 3 co-morbidities. The duration, co-morbidities, treatments, changes in OSS and VAS, maximum bladder capacity (MBC), glomerulations, GRA and flare-up rate showed no significant difference among different subgroups. When we divided patients by their storage and voiding conditions, patients with non-hypersensitivity bladder (HSB) (n=32) had significantly greater MBC (P=.002) whereas those with HSB with (n=76) or without (n=103) voiding dysfunction had higher glomerulation (P=.021). When we analysed voiding dysfunction subgroups by GRA, patients with a GRA of ≥2 had a significantly shorter duration of disease (13.9±8.6years, P=.021). There were also significant associations between GRA and the changes of OSS (P<.001) and VAS (P<.001).

Using high-protein caragana as an unconventional feed supplement has promising application potential in livestock feeding programmes, and verifying its function is of great importance to guide efficient dietary management of livestock.

This study investigated the resulting changes in the growth, slaughter performance, serum physiological index, physical and chemical characteristics of meat, ruminal and intestine morphology and gastrointestinal tract microbiota in sheep fed with caragana (CAR), corn straw (COR) and alfalfa (ALF) diets. The CAR group showed an increased abundance of Christensenellaceae R-7 group, Marvinbryantia, Ruminococcaceae NK4A214, Lachnospiraceae UCG-002 and Desulfuromonas in the rumen compared with ALF, and CAR group mainly enhanced starch and sucrose metabolism, fructose and mannose metabolism, photosynthesis and d-alanine metabolism in the rumen compared with ALF.

CAR diet positively changed the fatty acid profile of longissimus dorsi muscle and significantly altered the composition and function of the microbiota in the rumen, ileum and cecum.

This study systematically demonstrated the feasibility of CAR as an alternative to ALF for animal fattening in a complete formula granulated feed and provided a fundamental basis for further research and development of CAR as an unconventional feed source for ruminants.
