The Carillon Mitral Contour System has been shown to reduce mitral regurgitation and left ventricular volumes in symptomatic heart failure patients with functional mitral regurgitation. We sought to evaluate the effects of the Carillon device on quality of life and functional capacity in these patients.
An individual participant data meta-analysis was conducted utilizing data from REDUCE-FMR, TITAN, and TITAN II studies. The main outcomes assessed were changes from baseline in Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire overall summary scores (KCCQ-OSS), 6min walk test (6MWT) distance, and New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification at Months 1 and 12 after device implantation. Subgroup analyses were conducted for patients with severe functional mitral regurgitation (Grade 3 or 4). Pooled estimates were calculated using a random-effects model and are presented as weighted proportions or weighted mean differences along with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Among 139 patients included in the analysis, Cariof-life outcomes in heart failure patients with functional mitral regurgitation.

The aim was to characterize the optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography measures in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) and to evaluate their disease discrimination capacity.
Patients with MS (n=83) and AQP4-IgG-seropositive NMOSD (n=91) with or without a history of optic neuritis, together with healthy controls (n=34), were imaged. The main outcome measures were peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) thickness, macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GC-IPL) thickness, macular vessel density (VD), and perfusion density (PD) in the superficial capillary plexus. Diagnostic accuracy was assessed using the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve.

We assessed the severity of myelopathy with clinical parameters Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), Severity Scoring system for Progressive Myelopathy (SSPROM), and timed up-and-go. Linear mixed model analysis was used to compare changes in retinal layer thickness of patients to controls. In addition, we correlated changes in retinal layer thickness with changes in clinical parameters.
Longitudinal data were available for 28 patients and 29 controls. Peripapillary RNFL (pRNFL) thickness decreased significantly in patients compared to controls (-1.75µm, p=0.001), whereas change in macular GCL and RNFL was not different between groups. Analysis of the symptomatic subgroup showed that, apart from a similar decrease in pRNFL thickness, GCL thickness decreased significantly (-0.55µm, p=0.014). There were moderately strong correlations between changes in retinal layer thickness and changes in clinical parameters of severity of myelopathy.

However, the clinical relevance of this disorder and its association with other prodromal markers is often underestimated in clinical routine. We here report a case of severe clinical complications following extensive nocturnal movements due to RBD, aggravated by occurrence of additional prodromal non-motor symptoms. This case stresses the importance of recognizing RBD as a multisystem disease by all clinical disciplines.Growth and differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15), also known as macrophage inhibitory cytokine 1 (****1), may act as both a tumor suppressor and promotor and, by regulating NF-κB and macrophage signaling, promote early prostate carcinogenesis. To determine whether expression of these two inflammation-related proteins affect prostate cancer susceptibility, dual immunostaining of benign prostate biopsies for GDF-15 and NF-κB was done in a study of 503 case-control pairs matched on date, age, and race, nested within a historical cohort of 10,478 men. GDF-15 and NF-κB expression levels were positively correlated (r = 0.39; p less then 0.0001), and both were significantly lower in African American (AA) compared with White men. In adjusted models that included both markers, the odds ratio (OR) for NF-κB expression was statistically significant, OR =0.87; p = 0.03; 95% confidence interval (CI) =0.77-0.99, while GDF-15 expression was associated with a nominally increased risk, OR =1.06; p = 0.27; 95% CI =0.96-1.17.
