According to the logistic regression, thoracic scoliosis had no significant association with age, BMI, duration of illness and onset age (p > 0.05). However, gender, BCVA, type of strabismus and degree of strabismus showed a significant relationship with the prevalence of thoracic scoliosis (p  less then  0.05). CONCLUSIONS With a pooled prevalence of 14.94%, strabismus patients showed a great higher risk of developing thoracic scoliosis. Screening for scoliosis in strabismus patients can be helpful to discover a high prevalence of potential coronal scoliosis. The FLOT regimen (5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, docetaxel) has been established as a perioperative concept in Germany and is also increasingly being used internationally. The prognostic significance of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy has to be awaited based on the results of currently active studies. The microsatellite instability (MSI) status has increasingly gained in importance with respect to decision-making processes in the interdisciplinary tumor board as patients with MSI tumors probably do not benefit from neoadjuvant therapy. Patients with only initial stages of locally advanced MSI tumors (cT2, N0) and those with comorbidities could be spared from neoadjuvant therapy. This article critically deals with the current state of the art concepts as well as with ongoing studies with respect to neoadjuvant and perioperative treatment of gastric cancer. INTRODUCTION Osteoporosis is a worldwide health problem with high morbidity and mortality. In Kenya, there is paucity of information on the magnitude and risk profiles of those at risk. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence and associated factors of osteoporosis among postmenopausal women in a Kenyan periurban population. METHODS This community-based cross-sectional survey involving 254 postmenopausal African women in Kiambu County, Kenya, was carried out between October 2017 and February 2018. Multi-stage random sampling approach was adopted where households were selected after sampling sub-counties and enumeration areas. A structured questionnaire was administered and physical examination done on recruio implement intervention strategies based on these findings to control osteoporosis in groups at risk.Sludge reduction performance and bacterial community dynamics in a pilot-scale multi-stage digester system with prolonged sludge retention time were characterized. Throughout the operation period of 281 days, the total loading sludge and the total digested sludge were 4700 and 3300 kg-MLSS. After 114 days of operation, the residual MLSS (RMLSS) in the reactors for sludge treatment was maintained at 18-25 kg-RMLSS m-3, and the sludge reduction efficiency achieved 95% under the F/M ratio (kg-loading MLSS kg-RMLSS-1) of less than 0.018. Also, among the sludge components, both fixed suspended solids and volatile suspended solids were reduced. Although the NAL1 and GNP1 genes regulating the rice GNP and grain yield have been cloned, their allelic diversity, functional differences in rice germplasms, and effects of their combination on GNP and grain yield remain unclear. RESULTS Based on DNA sequences of these two genes in 198 cultivated rice (Oryza sativa) and 8-10 wild rice (Oryza rufipogon) germplasms, 16 and 14 haplotypes were identified for NAL1 and GNP1, respectively. The NAL1 gene had the strongest effects on GNP in indica (xian) and japonica (geng) subpopulations. In contrast, GNP1 had no significant effects in the geng subpopulation and was rare in the xian background, in which the superior GNP1 allele (GNP1-6) was detected in only 4.0% of the 198 germplasms. Compared with the transgenic lines with GNP1 or NAL1, the transgenic lines with both genes had a higher GNP (15.5%-25.4% and 11.6%-15.9% higher, respectively) and grain yield (5.7%-9.0% and 8.3%-12.3% higher, respectively) across 3 years. The two genes combined in the introgression lines in Lemont background resulted in especially favorable effects on the GNP. CONCLUSIONS Our results indicated that the GNP1 and NAL1 exhibited obvious differentiation and their combinations can significantly increase the grain yield in geng rice cultivars. These observations provide insights into the molecular basis of the GNP and may be useful for rice breeding of high yield potential by pyramiding GNP1 and NAL1.The roles and the underlying mechanisms of M1-type macrophages in angiogenesis and postmyocardial infarction (MI) cardiac repair have remained unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of M1-like macrophage-derived exosomes in a MI microenvironment. We found that the proinflammatory M1-like-type macrophages released an extensive array of proinflammatory exosomes (M1-Exos) after MI. M1-Exos exerted an anti-angiogenic effect and accelerated MI injury. They also exhibited highly expressed proinflammatory miRNAs, such as miR-155. miR-155 was transferred to endothelial cells (ECs), leading to the inhibition of angiogenesis and cardiac dysfunction by downregulating its novel target genes, including Rac family small GTPase 1 (RAC1), p21 (RAC1)-activated kinase 2 (PAK2), Sirtuin 1 (Sirt1), and protein kinase AMP-activated catalytic subunit alpha 2 (AMPKα2). M1-Exos depressed Sirt1/AMPKα2-endothelial nitric oxide synthase and RAC1-PAK2 signaling pathways by simultaneously targeting the five molecule nodes (genes), reduced the angiogenic ability of ECs, aggravated myocardial injury, and restrained cardiac healing.
